Scenes/Things in Supernatural that genuinely don't make sense to me if Dean was straight:

The confession booth scene.

Sam just rolling with the fact that Dean's siren is a guy while still thinking sirens infect people through sex.

Dean being flustered by several men: Gunner Lawless, Aaron, Doctor Sexy, etc.

All the parallels between Destiel and other couples. (A big one being "last night on Earth" bc how do you do that accidentally.)

Having all the gay jokes be on Dean instead of Sam.

Paralleling Sam meeting his childhood celebrity crush with Dean meeting Gunner Lawless.

The boner Dean got when Cas cleaned up.

Dean gulping after Cas does an impression from a Western movie.

Charlie, a lesbian, calling Castiel "dreamy."

The way Mary looks at Dean and Cas when they hug.

Dean wondering why everyone assumes he's gay, while Sam not caring.

The logic that Charlie can't flirt with guys because she's only attracted to women, but then having Dean flirt with the guy for her.

Dean seeming disappointed when learning that Aaron's flirting was fake.

The amount of time Dean and Cas spend staring at each other.

Dean canonically having an orgy with Crowley.

A woman saying that she knows when someone's pining for someone else to Dean, just for us to learn that Dean was never in love with Amara.

The set design and script choices that lead to a cross in the background while Dean said "I do." to Cas after he came back to life.

That time when Dean wanted to say something and Cas was like, "It's okay, I heard your prayer." But Dean still looked like he wanted to say something important.

Not every character in a book *needs* to have a rich inner life and backstory!#To do so would bog down the story and obliterate any notion of pacing. It's just not possible.#Jin Guangyao (nee Meng Yao) is unfortunately not free from this leeway rule. He is the culprit of this murder mystery plot #and thus NEEDS to encapsulate the themes of the book. And personally he's a 7 out of 10 at best on this front (in the AD).#MDZS is about rumours twisting reality and working towards truth. And about how people & situations are rarely ever black & white #JGY has his motivations. He's well written in regards to his actions making sense for his character.#What started as good traits (drive to succeed & improve his image) became twisted over time (do anything to maintain his image)#and it's a good parallel to WWX! He has the same arc (with different traits)! Bonus points for IGY in that regard.#but man....by the time we confront this guy for murder there's not a lot of grey morality. He's just...deep in the hole *he* dug.#There's a beautiful tragedy to it! More on JGY in later comics - this is getting pretty long already!

I'm a Kai Winn apologist but not because I think she's a good person. She's a compelling tragic character

#Winn is a pawn of the prophets #they purposefully did not talk to her #even quark has an orb experience #but the Kai doesn't get one word #she is holding onto her faith by a string and the wormhole aliens put her in that position for their own gain #the prophets are like lol snip snip bitch #they put her through hell because they needed her to bring the reckoning with the pah wraiths #she's ambitious and calculating yeah but she also lived through the worst of the occupation #plenty of people come out of trauma with negative attributes #it doesn't excuse her behavior but maybe it explains some of it #she really does just want what's best for Bajor #through the worst of it she still believes #the prophets are more ambitious cold and calculating than Kai Winn is #her crisis of faith happens because she finally gets word from her gods that she has been loyal to all this time #and it ends up being the pah wraiths and she still struggles to turn to their side #she was written as a grating character and they write her so well #star trek deep space nine #before ds9 goes off my radar for 3 months #Kai Winn #meta #I could have written that as a cohesive post and not a tag essay...

a common theme in a lot of media is a character insisting "i'm not crazy" and eventually being proven right. but to be honest? i wish we had more characters who are canonically "crazy" without it being a bad thing or condemnation. characters who struggle with psychotic symptoms like delusions and hallucinations. characters who are unreliable narrators because they're not always sure what's real and what's in their head. characters who need help and support from their friends and loved ones to maintain their grip on reality and stay safe sometimes. psychotic characters who aren't just one-dimensional caricatures or harmful stereotypes but fully fleshed out, developed people with satisfying arcs and meaningful relationships. just more well written canon psychotic characters.

fionna's world being represented by a dandelion makes so much sense ... they're weeds. yet people make wishes through them, changing their whole meaning from something meant to be destroyed to something hopeful.

dandelions are also resilient and it makes sense that something associated with them would. you know. perservere despite the destruction caused by the scarab.

but ultimately i think what REALLY made me tear up over this is that dandelions are really boring plants. when you're a kid you blow on them and make your wish but they're not eyecatching or anything but still, fionna's final wish was for her old world to still exist as it was when she left it (> plain and simple. boring even).

like the moment she realized she would lose her friends, and that her friends might forget each other if the world got its magic back, she immediately decided she didn't want it and I think that ties back to the dandelion metaphor so well... like, do you really need magic to be real to find it everywhere? or can you turn something boring into something magical?

It's very strange to me that people about Dragon Age: The Veilguard not being dark and gritty enough, that it might have "Marvel-like" dialogue.

Inquisition gave us Blackwall, a reserved but not humorless character, who had suffered and inflicted suffering on others due to the political machinations of his society. He speaks about dislike for nobles, he is a critique of the system in this world.

His arc culminates in confiding with the Inquisitor, assuming they are good enough friends, about a brutal event in his youth, a reflection on apathy, on justice, and personal responsibility.

But everyone wet themselves because it was a bit awkward, and it involved a dog dying.

You want dark, then?
