If I had a dime for every time AMC's Walking Dead channel reran S4 & S5 (Bethyl episodes!) while I was left with only hotel TV when away for a conference, I'd have two dimes. Which isn't a lot, but weird that it happened twice.

Seriously, though, I'm in a town with very few entertainment options (like I was the last time), so the universe gifts me a marathon?

I just saw a post in my memories on Facebook about being in the middle of a bethyl chat from, geez, nine years ago. It made me think of how much I miss those days. We were all so excited, so hopeful. It was just so much fun.

But more than that, I started really missing my chat peeps. The friendships I made. Holy shit, do I miss you all.

Beth stood watching everyone mingle. Her family had some relatives and friends over for a Christmas party. It was a fun gathering and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Beth thought the party was nice but she was hoping to see a certain someone here and she hasn't yet. She hoped that he didn't decide not to come.

Looking around more, she finally spotted him in the corner of the living room. He seemed to be alone. Beth walked over to him and when he spotted her, she swore she saw a small smile on his face.

"Hi, Daryl," Beth greeted him and smiled at him. Daryl had been a friend to the Greenes for a while now. He wound up here on the Greene farm one day when he was looking for work and ended up getting a job on the farm. He's moved on to other things now but he has become good friends with the Greenes and still helps out and hangs out with them occasionally.

"Hey," he greeted back in his grumbly voice.

"I was looking for you," she told him.

"You were?" he questioned.

"Yeah. I like hanging out with you," she told him. And because I have a massive crush on you, she added on in her own thoughts.

"Oh… I like hanging out with you too," he told her. It was a small thing but it made Beth blush.

"Are you enjoying the party?" she asked him.

"It's… Interesting," he simply said and Beth frowned. "Sorry. You know me, this stuff usually isn't my kind of thing," he explained.

"I know, I know, you and your 'lone wolf' shtick," she said and he chuckled at that. "But you should know, I- We love having you here."

"Thanks." He paused for a moment, seeming to contemplate what he wanted to say next, and then spoke up. "To be honest, I guess I'm also not used to the whole 'happy Christmas' thing. Never really had one of those myself."

Beth frowned again. He never really told her or anyone else much about his past but from the small details he's let slip, she knows that he's had a tough life and his family wasn't so great.

"Well… Now's your chance to have one," she said to him. Daryl smiled.

Beth's eyes suddenly noticed something above them that she hadn't when she came over here.

"Hey, look, Mistletoe," she pointed out. Daryl looked up to where she was looking and saw the item in question.

"Huh," he simply said. They both looked back down at each other. Beth tried to search his eyes for what he was thinking but he was hard to read. But then she noticed that he was slowly leaning towards her. Slowly, his lips connected with hers. It was a soft, sweet kiss, definitely not something she expected from Daryl considering his seemingly tough demeanor; it was lovely. After a moment, they separated and looked at each other. Beth smiled and Daryl did once he saw that she was.

"Maybe I do like this happy Christmas thing after all," Daryl said.

Beth giggled at that. "Me too."

They were both filled with joy and enjoyed the rest of the party together.

I used to love reading Bethyl or Meth but everyone liked one style from one author (who doesn’t have a good fic honestly) and suddenly that became the trend. Then you have writers who are good but stick to the same format. It gets really boring. Also I can make a few writers who can’t even write the characters in a believable manner and they just suck. It’s downright boring in the Bethyl and Meth fic world these days.

I’m really sorry you feel that way, Anon. And this may make me sound kind of rude but if you’re tired of the “boring” then maybe you can try writing something? I know seems easy. Writing is so hard sometimes. Especially for characters you love and want to try and get right. But the good thing about fanfic is you don’t have to be 100% with the character. If I’m reading a fic and it FEELS like the character even if they’re in a totally unnatural position/environment for the character, then that’s good for me. I’m a big fan of crossover fics for that same reason actually.

Look I’ve gone through so many fandom phases because I, like you, get bored of things after awhile. That and I’m old and have been on the web since before even Google existed and was memorizing http links because the save feature wasn’t really a thing 😅 if you’re bored then maybe go to a new fandom for awhile, read a few fics for it, then try coming back after some time. See if that sparks you anew. The Bethyl fandom has suffered some heavy hits over the years so I’m just impressed there’s still people dedicated to writing for the ship at all. It’s basically a necromancer ship (one character alive and the other left in limbo) so I can understand people filtering away or sticking to the happier routes or just trying to stay sane. It’s hard when half of your ship is left in “bullshit writer choice” Hell.

I feel for you Anon but all I can say is maybe try writing what you want yourself or step away for a bit then come back later. Refresh yourself. It’s okay to step out of routine some times. Good for the brain. And be easy on yourself and others!

Look, I love Daryl, and I love Beth; I ship them heavy, and love the fic community I found here, but the god's honest truth is, I really just am enjoying the Rick and Michonne hype right now. I like knowing that I get to actually see their love for one another play out on screen, which is something TWD fans never got with Beth and Daryl.

"Catch any sleep?" you asked Daryl, stepping out into the living area with your fingers curled around a steaming mug of tea.

Daryl was laid out on the couch with an arm draped over his eyes. He sighed and shifted, lifting it to look at you as you sunk into a chair across the room. "Nah. 'M more likely to catch a unicorn than any fuckin' sleep these days..." He sighed heavily and sat up, planting his boots heavily back on the floor. He caught your eyes as you were giving him a perceptive and sympathetic look.

"...wanna talk about it?" you asked him.

He ducked his eyes and shook his head a little. "Not really..."

"Hey. You need to forgive yourself. About Beth. It wasn't your fault."

He let out a wry laugh and tugged at a loose thread on his pants. "Ya say that like it's easy."

"No. No... it's the hardest thing there is. Trust me. I've been there."

Daryl's eyes flicked back up to your face and he gave you a curious look. Whatever this was in your past, and he thought he knew it all, you'd never spoken of it before.

"I mean it though, Daryl. No one blames you. You did everything you could. It's not your fault."

And when you said it, he believed you.

Alright, fam.

I'm doing a rewatch of Season 4 right now, and one thing keeps bothering me. According to the Fandom Wiki, Beth and Daryl were only on their own for three days. The prison fell on Day 504 (approximately) and Beth was kidnapped on Day 507.

It doesn't add up. Especially the weather. In Inmates and Still, the two are sleeveless and sweaty in the Georgia heat. But by the next episode, everyone (including Maggie, Sasha, and Bob) are comfortable wearing long sleeves and sweaters. Foggy mornings are typical fall and winter weather, even in Georgia.

So just how long do we think those two were on their own before Beth was taken?

yes, i did it again. I merged in a very LAZY way all the lyrics of a song with the same 5 scenes that feed us since 2014. I fucking love this.
