I’m pretty sure that Rutgers does not have the degree I mentioned but we’re gonna act like they do. There’s no really ending on this as I was on the fence about making this a series, so if you want it let me know!

The universe was against you.

Or at least that was what you told yourself as you stared at Luke from across the table as everyone was in the cafeteria for lunch.

As a student at Rutgers University in your sophomore year you had come across the opportunity to become an intern at the New Jersey Devils learning all about how they ran their social media accounts, something that fit perfectly with your degree in social media marketing. Two and a half years later now as a senior you were still at the same position and had built bonds with most of the guys that she saw most days that they were in Jersey during the season.

Sure there were some that you were closer with than others, especially the ones that were similar in age to you like Jack and Dawson. And there were others that you somehow had wrapped around your finger like Miles and Nico.

But Luke was the one you couldn’t seem to crack.

The boys all adored you because you were this bright ball of happy energy whenever you came into the room but that was what Luke seemed to hate the most about you.

It shouldn’t have effected you as much as it did but over the past year you had unintentionally developed a bit of a crush on him through hearing Jack gush about his younger brother and ultimately being the forwards game viewing buddy.

You knew that the crush was beyond unprofessional but your excuse was that it happened prior to him signing with the team and to your knowledge nobody had picked up on it. All of the players besides for Luke had very much picked up on it though.

It was the way you couldn’t even form a coherent sentence around him during the first week of him being at the team.

The way your eyes would linger on him for just a little bit longer than appropriate when you two were in the same room.

Jack found the whole thing really sweet in fact since he had grown to know you like the back of his hand, you two had grown particularly close during his rookie year. Meaning that he knew if there was any girl in Jersey that was going to fall in love with his baby brother Jack was glad it was you.

However love was a two way street, and it seemed like the street from Luke’s side was never going to be built.

Whenever he got the chance to shut you down or to call you out he took it. If there was an opportunity to make a dig at you he didn’t let it go missed. Any way he could try to make you feel small, he seemed to take.

Jack originally played this down to him being nervous around you, but when the comments didn’t start to slow down when you weren’t around the middle Hughes brother knew that there was more to the story.

Thankfully for you the majority of Luke’s attacks came in the form of snarky comments that you were able to quickly rebuttal.

His hits ranged from soft things like commenting on how she looked like she had just woken up.

To far meaner things like loudly questioning a boy as to why they would willingly speak to you, when you were still well within earshot of the conversation.

Usually you would just laugh and and respond with anything from “go look in the mirror,” to “takes a lot of energy being this much of a dick doesn’t it?”

You knew he was bad for your health, most nights you couldn’t sleep because you would replay the words that he had said to you throughout that day and you would helplessly scan them trying to figure out if there was any truth behind them.

You couldn’t flirt with guys for long periods of time because you would always find ways that Luke was better than them. Given how Luke was acting, your friends were really questioning your taste and standards in men.

Luke was like a mystery block from Mario Kart as you never really knew what you were going to get with him. Sometimes he was actually rather quite bearable, even going as far as to say something that you were able to convince yourself was a nice comment.

But most of the time he was the same old cruel person. In all honesty he didn’t know why he acted like it with you. There was just something about you that hit a nerve in his body the moment he stalked your Instagram after seeing your name pop up once in a comment under a post that Jack had made. He couldn’t stand how everyone adored you, even his mother who had only met you once always asked Jack about you in her weekly call with the boys.

Jack used the back of his water bottle to tap your knee “you coming to the bar tonight?” He asked cocking his head as he wanted to learn about your weekend plans.

The team didn’t have a game Wednesday through Monday and since they had a fairly good end of regular season, it only felt right to let the boys celebrate.

With a mouth full of food Luke let out a scoff “she’s not invited!” He groaned ignoring how you furrowed your eyebrows at him when he made the statement.

Like normal Jack stepped in to bring his brother back in line “it is an open invitation to anyone so yes she is.” The middle Hughes brother since his sibling a glare as he silently told him to shut up.

You always felt guilty when Jack got involved in your little spats with Luke especially after Dawson accidentally revealed to you that the brothers have full blown arguments about the younger Hughes’ behaviour when you aren’t around. So you let out a sigh that was loud enough for them both to hear “thanks Jack but I actually have plans tonight.” You lied not wanting to be around Luke if it was going to be this mean.

You were starting to lose the energy needed to keep up with the boy “you have plans?” Luke leaned back in his chair as he scoffed “bullshit,” he was quick to call your bluff.

He was right though, you literally intended on catching up on course work and sitting in front of the tv.

Jack sent the boy a warning stare as he was walking a fine line “nope, I am going to catch up on some work-” you couldn’t even get the whole sentence out before Luke erupted into laughter.

Once he got over his fit of giggles he smirked “knew it!” He ran his fingers through his hair seeing your confused facial expressions “knew you were too boring to have friends who wanted to hang out with you.” The way the words ran so smoothly out of his mouth without any sense of remorse was enough to send shivers down your spine.

The comment stung like a bee sting as you felt it poke at your heart when your eyes went wide attempting to process your next move “dude!” Jack scoffed kicking his brother underneath the table.

Luke only shrugged as you got up “even she knows I’m right,” he motioning to you as you had remained quiet.

You had to force a cordial smile on your face when you actually wanted to do nothing more than punch the younger boy in the face “have a good weekend boys.” You mumbled as you shoved your hands into the pockets of your team hoodie grateful for the fact that you had to head back to campus for a lecture.

Yes you might have liked Luke but you were starting to realise that it might be time to reevaluate your feelings towards him.

Maybe you were better off leaving the team when the season ended.

But maybe you were actually better off off alone just like Luke wanted.

Okay if you haven't yet, and you have Netflix/Paramount+, consider giving "School Spirits" a chance.

It looks like a silly little cheesy teenage ghosts show, I put it on for background noise, and then got totally engrossed in the mystery. It's VERY well written, very well filmed, the mystery was GREAT and the payoff at the end is also great.

One of the things majorly lacking in shows I've recently tried to watch is that they try to do a twist/reveal at the end that comes out of nowhere. They don't want you to guess what they're doing. This show doesn't do that. This show wants you to guess. They give you seven different mysteries and enough clues to guess (most of) what is going on, so that when you get the final puzzle piece to any given mystery, it feels GREAT.

The story premise is this: a teenager in hs wakes up as a ghost in the hs, and doesn't remember how she died, and with the help of the other ghosts, tries to solve the mystery of her own death.

Simple premise. BEAUTIFULLY executed. Not all of the questions that arise get answered, but the main one (what she doesn't remember) gets solved by the end of the season, leaving the "why/how and what comes next" to be carried to the next season. It does a cliffhanger RIGHT. But now I desperately want to see the second season (which I believe has been approved, so it's a matter of waiting).

So pretty please, if you're looking for something to do and a great, engaging lil mystery to watch, consider! School Spirits!!

i don't want to go into too much detail about my life and how i connected to LT, but just know i am not entirely comfortable with what i am seeing on my dash. a few years ago circumstances lead to me losing my hearing for majority of a year and then became hard hearing for a period of time before i regained my hearing back. its not fully where it used to be but that loss, that hope, and what you take with you on the other side stays with you long after the recovery. i know because i see it every time my mom is in remission.

and then a few months ago, i got a concussion which lead to me being momentarily unable to walk without an caregiver/walker/cane. i worked hard on my PT and now am able to manage on my own two feet again as of three weeks ago.

all i am saying is sure hating on part 4 is your opinion and might not be for you but there are people in your life and maybe on your dash that are reading what you think about people who were disabled at a time of their life, are on their way to recovery now, or got the treatment they've been waiting for. the hardships, the journey, even all the good that happened during allllll that still matters after recovery.

This was a bit of a different thing to what I usually write, but don’t worry the next chapter in this is back to ‘normal’. In the requests for the next parts of this series a few people suggested that she moved to a different team so that’s why she’s gone to the Islanders.

You didn't need him.

At least that's what you told yourself. You reminded yourself of that as the notification of him liking your graduation post came through. You told yourself that when you turned down the job offer from the Devils. You even had to repeat that to yourself as you said goodbye to the garden state.

Thankfully though the move was fairly short as it was to New York. The islanders had offered you a job and despite the fact that they were a rival team, staying with the Devils was not worth the way that Luke had treated you.

The final straw was when he met your friends at the bar the night the Devils season had ended and he had proceeded to tell one of them how he would rather die a virgin than have sex with you.

Sure you knew that not everyone in life was going to like you, some might not even put up with you. But to go as far as saying that you weren't even someone he'd consider recreating with if you two were the last people on earth felt a bit much even for you.

You were grateful for the fact that you didn't have to face him for a day more as it was that next morning you went to the Devils to say goodbye and called the Islanders in the hopes that they still had that job offer.

Jack assumed that his brother had something to do with your departure but he never asked so you never told him.

It had been eight months since you moved to New York and you loved every single minute of it. The guys on the team were great and Mat had even gone as far as to help you settle in by offering you a tour from someone who was practically a local. You knew you shouldn't say this but as much as you tried to push the young Hughes boy out of your mind by being around the Barzal one instead, it was simply no use.

During your late night trips to his favourite pizza restaurant your mind would always betray you. As you would sit there listening to Mat going on about something, your mind would wander to Luke.

The lengths you reached to stop your mind were endless. Everything from the rubber band on your wrist to digging your nails into your palms. Eventually you gave up and let the thoughts of the curly haired boy consume you.

You wondered what he was doing, if he was happier now that you were gone, if there was maybe a part of him that missed you even a sliver of how much you missed him.

Truth be told, Luke got the shock of his life when the season started and you weren’t there. Yes he thought it was weird that you hadn’t been around all summer but the boy just chalked that down to you being home with your family. He couldn’t believe it when Jack told him that you had actually left. What hurt him more though was the fact that you had disappeared off of the face of his earth. You had blocked him on everything, going as far as to restrict his name from all social media’s. Luke knew that he shouldn’t have been surprised when each member of the team but himself had gotten a handwritten letter from you where you said a proper goodbye to them. It was a total slap in the face though when he walked into what was once your cubicle in the office that had now been taken over by some shy junior that you had actually convinced to take the job.

The first night that Luke spent in his apartment alone, he stared at ceiling silently replaying the moments of the relationship that you had built with him. Luke had to admit that he knew he had been cruel to you.

The hockey player pushed your buttons because he knew that he could. Just like how children bugged the people that they had crushes on. When you began to send him back the insults that he sent you, it was taken as a challenge. So Luke would slowly chip away at your mental state, he didn’t know that it was what he was hitting but you weren’t entirely sure that he would have cared if you told the hockey player the truth. But as he went thought back to how your responses changed throughout the two months of knowing you Luke came to terms with the fact that you had been falling back into a shell that simply nobody knew were possible. That bitter pill that he was being forced to swallow made Luke realise one thing: that his comments had gone too far.

He had considered creating a burner account to see what you had been up to but that idea was no longer necessary after Ellen let it slip at dinner.

The four had been eating dinner at Jacks favourite restaurant in New York when she asked why the older Hughes boy didn’t invite you.

For Luke it was embarrassing as he why you would have been there. It wasn’t because he wanted to be rude or snarky like he usually was, the defensemen just thought that New York was a pretty random place for you to be.

The younger Hughes boy swore that you hated big cities and that it was the reason why you never came along during the team roadtrips.

Somehow what hurt the most was having to learn from Nico that you had joined the Islanders. You had sent the Swissman a selfie of you drinking some tea that he had gotten you and as the Devils captain showed it to his younger teammate Luke’s eyes couldn’t help but go wide at the thought of you being at another team.

The idea of other players getting to see you smile every single day made him jealous, it truly is funny how people can change.

However his pride was too full to let him seek you out. Yes he had found your number whilst snooping around on Jacks phone but Luke hadn’t let himself fall that far down that particular rabbit hole.

There was one time that he did almost phone you. He had dialled the number in and everything even pressing the call button. Just like Luke expected you answered on the second ring.

It was late at night as you let out a yawn “hello?” Your voice was quiet as the time was quickly reaching the witching hour.

Luke couldn’t say a word, he wanted to but his lips were stuck together. It was like his brain just decided to switch off in the very moment that you answered your phone. It wasn’t like he could exactly start the phone call up with ‘remember how I used to be a dick to you? Well sorry.’

But before he could muster up the courage to say hi, you had already hung up.

The reason why he wanted to call you was because he wanted to yell at you. Not for anything that you had intentionally done though, Luke wanted you to know the impact you had on his life. The hockey player needed you to understand that even if you weren’t in his life, you had created a space for yourself in his heart.

So that was why Luke called, hoping that it would help him process the fact that he had accidentally called another girl by your name whilst in bed.

The moment was not one of his finest so it was no surprise that it had shaken the boy up.

Lacking the confidence to improve on the failed phone call Luke let out a sigh.

He rubbed his face with his hands as it dawned on him, he was going to have to wait until the Devils played the Islanders for him to see your face again.

Luke only hoped that it wasn’t too late.

The boy was going to have to pray that you hadn’t found a guy that you called yours.

Maybe I'll make a post on this at some point but like, something deeply fucked up about TNP and Po3 that people have totally forgotten about is how badly they try to whine that "Tigerstar Had Good Traits :("

Firestar does it, Brambleclaw does it, and they keep doing this after it becomes this GRAND irony that Firestar almost gets Tiger'd to death in a fox trap because he was too trusting. Bramble gets his pity award of keeping deputyship and then cries to his son about how No One Saw The Good In Tigerstar :(

And it's wiiiiild that no one else in this fandom has done anything with the fact that Leopardstar broke the Warrior Code to appoint Hawkfrost, who had no apprentice, an extremely aggressive and warmongering Tigerclone who says things like "Tigerstar wasn't the worst cat to look up to." ONLY qualifying trait was being kinda like Tigerstar.

And she practically did that the SECOND Mistyfoot went missing. And then Leopardstar continued to be one of the most violent and xenophobic leaders through Po3, joining with WindClan to attack ThunderClan.

What I'm getting at is that like, a few years ago, with books like "Blackfoot's Reckoning" and "Shadow in RiverClan" it's like they suddenly decided to retcon in a bunch of "redemption arcs" in hindsight. They just pretended like there was this grand high reckoning with TigerClan, when there literally wasn't, and if anything that caused SERIOUS problems for the cast that the authors didn't fully acknowledge as such.

And now ppl haven't actually read the main series and are just working with their recent memory of all these retcon books.

But TNP and PO3 are still there, and you can go and see the ACTUAL timeline where Leopardstar is really not apologetic at all, and Blackstar is a useful stooge for the very next wannabe dictator that strolls in, in spite of the new side content that COMPLETELY mischaracterized them for their plots to work.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Cherry Magic (Sat YouTube grey) ep 9 of 12 - I broke. In my defense, it was Monday, I needed comfort, and TayNew were right tf there. Ya know what? They are great in this show. It's a great adaptation. I might like it more than the JBL live action. You know why? Really, honestly WHY...?

That was a PHENOMENAL KISS. Those boys did Thailand fucking proud. They did fandom a solid. Thank you OGs for reminding us how it's done. I was getting used to SloppyHot. And SloppyHot has its place, but that TayNew rooftop kiss was a top tear class act. It was tender and sweet and respectful and joyful. It was eye work and breath work and years of practice. How very far BL has come while still staying so much the same. TayNew - I salute you!

The Sign (Sat YT) ep 12fin - we waiting, I guess? Bah.

Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 11 of 12 - The recipe book thing was so damn cute and I love a claiming. YOU KNOW I LOVE A CLAIMING!

In fact, I love OffGun.

I love food based BL.

I adored seeing a reboot of "the infamous dragging". 

But I don’t love anything else about this show. Sigh.

1000 Years Old ep 1 of 12 - Finally we get our gay vampire BL from Feel Good Bangkok. Stars Shane (My Engineer) and fresh face Opal, directed by Champ (2gether). It’s kind of odd but enjoyable. A group of teen UFO seekers find a vampire instead. Opal looks a bit like a mix between Newnu + Leo (VIXX) - so cute + edge. Also, nice to see Shane again on our screens after so long. 

Finally, I like the subtle (and sometimes not subtle) presence of ghosts permeating this show. Do the friends know she's there? Do they know she's dead? Is the existence of paranormal accepted but not that of aliens? Or are the two combined? Is this lazy writing or just fun world building? Who cares! It's enjoyable.

For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 12fin - the nail painting bit was very cutie queers and I've not seen it done in BL before, so that was nice. For some reason captions never dropped for me on this last episode, but it didn’t really matter. Not much happened and I understood everything anyway.

Quick pitch?

From the people who brought us Unforgotten Night based on a y-novel, about a young man nursing a heartbreak who has a one-night stand, but the other boy didn't want it to end. This turned out to be a pulp that wasn’t half as good as it should have been and even less memorable, but not terrible. 5/10 DON'T BOTHER unless you're v bored

City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 3 of 12 - Oh it is such a pulp: the acting is not good and the script is terrible. Of course, I’m mildly enjoying it. Very good dream kissing. There's something appealing about these main characters - I think it's the moot crushes. We rarely get to see that. These days everything feels very one sided, this... isn't.

A Secretly Love (Thai WeTV) - Khonprot, a third-year hazer of the engineering faculty, has a secret crush on Pluem, a tsundere fourth-year head hazer. Over the years, he's seen Pluem cycle through girlfriends. Recently, after a public breakup, however, Khonprot thinks maybe a boy has a chance.

I tried but I can't get into my WeTV account anymore and I'm way too lazy to figure it out. I'll catch it grey if I can, since I've rebooted the bootlegging side of my BL life for Cherry Magic anyway.

So this show may stay in this section, or I may bump it down to "it's airing but..."

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Love For Love's Sake (Korea Weds iQIYI) 7-8fin - Ugh it was GREAT, despite some pretty telling flaws. I ended up feeling like some of the filming was amateurish (very overworked low angles - director's first feature, I assume), and the narrative is a little disjoined and on the nose, AND the subs are clumsy (which I don't expect from KBL) BUT I still loved it. (FYI - I wouldn't be so harsh on a BL for this kinda thing except one from Korea.)

Quick pitch:

This isekai-based KBL is about a man who must win a game by convincing a reserved teen outcast to fall in love with him. Of course, that teen represents himself and his own unhappiness. Like many queer narratives, this show is actually about self worth, trust, and found family, and it is VERY on the nose. But I don’t expect subtlety from my BL and I enjoyed it's truly lovely redemption arc and earnest performances. While I found the narrative a touch disjointed with overworked filming angles and poorer than average captions, this is certainly much better than early KBL in terms of consistency of tone, script, and immersion. Highly rewatchable and charming, which counts for a lot. 9/10

Perfect Propose (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 4 of 6 - Gosh, it’s so lovely. But I do just constantly want to give them both hugs. 

AntiReset (Taiwan Fri Viki/Gaga) ep 4 of 10 - Oh look, Taiwan has created yet another BL where I spend most of the time watching it grinning like an idiot. Surprise surprise. The pet name thing was fucking adorable. Also Taiwan once more proving they come by their "kings of kissing" title honestly. I mean to say. In a week of good kisses this one was just... WOW.

Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 6 of 10 - Like many other shows on this list. I just enjoy it the most when the two leads are on screen together. So this episode was kind of lacking because they were apart for most of it. I also am starting to agree with the tone of the plot, that maybe they ARE better off as friends not lovers. (And I'm sure I'm not supposed to want that.) Oh Japan, must you?

My Strawberry Film (Japan Gaga) ep 1 of 8 - Oh it’s good. In the arthouse lane so don’t expect sweetness & light or an HEA. If there’s no cartoon aspect to a JBL, there’s usually no joy. But it is certainly good. Teens uncover some old film and a mystery around a pretty girl. The background music is wildly annoying (and rarely in the background).

Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. Goodbye. I DNFed this at ep 5. Frankly I'm impressed with myself for getting that far.

Time the series (Tue Gaga/YT) 10 eps - dropped it at ep 4.

2/24 Unknown (Taiwan Youku) 12 eps - Older brother tough guy breadwinner looks after his sister and defacto adopted little brother. Little bother falls in love with him and is sent away after a stolen kiss. But when he comes back…

Sam Lin has a cameo so even if I wasn't already excited, I'm in. We should be on our guard though, Taiwan will occasionally go edgy, dark, and sad... this could go there.

One assumes GMMTV is filling in the BL time slot with something queer on their YT Channel after Cooking Crush ends, they gonna lose subs if they don't. But I've not been paying attention to the chatter so I don't know which of their line-up it will be. I think G4 are filming/off radar now, and Earth is in that het noona thing? Plus they gotta sort out the IP for MIx-Up and Ossen. So it won't be one of the announced adaptations. They'll hold My Golden Blood for the high season, so I think it'll be one of the lesser known lead-outs. Wandee or Only Boo maybe? But they only just started filming those. Are we getting our long awaited GL? Anything else left from 2023 that I forgot about?
