#I think the first point is unhelpful because so many times you do feel completely out of your depth #and sometimes that can turn into 'well God doesn't know/love me enough to know my limits'#or 'God is punishing me beyond my limits'#or 'God isn't real in that case'#But turning to God and trusting in God and His ability to transform pain into something beautiful can help #it's just that this trust isn't easy for a lot of/most people!#And I think sometimes the first point can be used by other people to dodge responsibility for trying to help someone in need #I don't think you can reach people in their suffering if you inadvertently downplay their pain and their struggles at remedying the issue #Because the reality is that yes often times this pain is too much for any human to deal with alone and too complicated to unravel themselve

thinking about. the specific phrasing of "my fractured soul has become entangled in yours." and the way it brings to mind, like, cracks being filled with something new. and how john apparently borrows so much in the way of practical knowledge from arthur's mind, and how early on they don't even seem certain how much of his soul/opinions/feelings are inherited, how arthur describes him as growing when he first says "entirely your own."

and. wondering just how literal that phrase may have been. if john has literally used arthur's own soul to fill in some missing pieces, some ragged edge of his separation. literal, material scaffolding to enable his healing and growth.

...and also wondering what that would mean for their time apart in s2. whether part of john "falling back on his old ways" was because a part of his essence had been literally ripped away.

i think if you truly love a character then you want them to get some no matter where it comes from

#i think it kind of really reduces a character if you're limiting them to One relationship solely!#a person is the result of every interaction and every relationship they've had. that's how you get a fleshed out human.#i think that's why i like to explore all of wade and peter's past relationships and stuff. it informs who they are.#it informs why they have all their baggage and their short-comings and it's just fun and interesting!#i think it's very easy for spideypool to become very flat and one-dimensional if you're focusing squarely on them #and there's no outside factors or additional lore giving them depth beyond. i don't know. sexy vigilantes.#like yeah it's hot. and that's fine. but it's kind of not why i'm here and why i'm so invested in them.#it is nice to see a hot drawing of them kissing on a rooftop yes. but i don't know. it doesn't tickle my pickle anymore.#i'm so much more interested in hearing them talk about their history and their relationships #and getting a better understanding of each other as a result. that's so freaking sexy to me. that's tickling my pickle.#sci speaks

#I LIKE Dostoyevsky. I like how mysterious and unreadable he is. What is his goal!!!! Why does he do what he does!!!!!!! He's very cool #I think knowing his ability now REALLY adds to his character. Him being so smart so manipulative so disruptive in the way he–#seemingly kills people on touch! Only added to this impression of him being “demon” and “inhuman”#But now that we know his ability you realize... That's all his doing; no ability.#His ability in a way does help humanize him by reaffirming that except for the moment he dies– he's got no superpower at all!!!#It's just him.#And yet at the same time also solves the exact opposite role of dehumanizing him because if it's not his ability that makes him like *that*#then he's even different than other ability users!!! Then‚ if not an ability user‚ if not a non ability user: what is //he//?#It's all SO compelling!!! Also makes for an extremely insightful narrative parallel with Dazai #Not an ability user not a non ability user. Not good not evil. (I feel like Dostoyevsky does exceed the definitions of good and evil as–#much as Dazai does. If he causes evil‚ yet does so with the intention of bringing salvation to humans– is he really *simply* evil?)#Both have these borderline superpowers that make them extraordinary beings (we can call it super intelligence‚ but it goes from controlling #their own heartbit to everything else) but are unrelated to their respective abilities! Once again making them neither this or that #I find Karma's words at the end to be extremely insightful.“Ace was evil for sure‚ but this man isn't even evil.#He's a being from the beyond. A being that exceeds human limits.” Like!!! That's all that there is to it!!!!!!#Back to this chapter / episode. There's some themes / worldvies once again I don't agree with but narrative wise I think it's extraordinary #I feel like after the Guild arc the writing really matured a lot and this is a kind of preview of what the doa arc is going to be like #(aka very very well written especially if compared to the previous arcs)#The plot twists of this episode are all so unpredictable and exciting!!! I think it's remarkably witty how it takes advantages of previous–#clichés - villains always revealing details about their own ability in a way that is quite baffling - to actually surprise the audience.#It's so effective. How skillfully unpredictable Dostoyevsky is to the point you can never guess what he will do next!!!#Him killing Karma is... Idk so so soooooooo interesting. I could talk about this forever but I'm being very dispersive in the rable and–#running out of tags. The whole episode you're sorta rooting for Dostoyevsky. He's very cool and comes out charming in the way he keeps–#surprising the audience. He looks bothered by Ace's disregard of other people's lives and that makes him sympathetic too.#But then he kills Karma out of nowhere and it's an “Ah! You fell for his lies too– remember he's nothing but evil. He cares just as little #about life as Ace does”. And then??? Karma in his last words is himself so generous in his words to Dostoyevsky. It's baffling.#And it almost feels like thenarrative is once again turning around and telling you you should root for Dostoyevsky.#It's endlessly fascinating.#I have more to say about the worldviews I don't share and the art style Dostoyevsky was portrayed with this episode (love it!!)#But alas ran out of tags

okay no wait, I'm still thinking about the alien post, and like--I'm not not a fan of scifi, I've really enjoyed a handful of scifi media (some true scifi, some more just space opera), but I do think the reason I can't like, get into it the way I'm into fantasy or supernatural genres, is like, that it's truly not as weird as it could be. A lot of scifi is focused on tech sciences (speculative technologies), which is fine, we got automatic doors bc of Star Trek, imagining the tech of the future isn't bad, it's just also not something I'm super interested in. But speculative biology? Speculative ecology? I would love that shit so much. But alas, I am not familiar with any biologists who are Really Into Biology writing scifi.

#ST does have a handful of episodes where the biology is a bit weird but they're not like. The norm #(and honestly not weird enough I want something that makes me stop and radically rethink how I think about existence)#which is understandable ST was always more about social issues stuff and less ''hey wouldn't it be fucked up if...''#and due to the limits of ''all our actors are human and we are On A Budget'' all the aliens were typically humanoid which is like #FINE bc I understand the technical limitations but other media doesn't have that excuse #I'd write a story myself w/ no humanoid aliens but alas I've yet to be struck by inspiration for anything beyond the abstract concept #anyhow yea...#oracle of lore
