But I don't know if I totally agree -- the universe isn't just getting "larger" and more "complex" (whatever that could mean), it's becoming a far more differentiated mass of parts that interact with each other in complex ways. I think this requires more complex and sophisticated tools for controlling thought, even with the same amount of mass.

A general intelligence that has to literally contemplate the whole of existence and all the laws of physics all the time is going to take a lot of computational resources (which are going to come from its intelligence rather than any external fact of the matter) -- that was the "original thought" of what I called the "big box" paradigm.

We already have an example of this: humans. You can tell because, although we currently seem to have "total internal access" to our memories, we cannot, in practice, remember everything. We have certain tricks like "forgetting" in order to force our brain to be more efficient and to spend computational resources on "important" thoughts (whatever that means). As the universe gets more complex, as we attempt to make more complex beings, I don't think we will be able to get by with a total "internal access" paradigm, if it even makes sense to talk about "total internal access" -- you can't have the contents of your brain be the totality of its internal states if you also have several external minds that can interact with the same brain.

(To say nothing of non-human intelligences. I don't think it makes any sense to say "I can't access all of my thoughts, so I might as well forget all of them," if you don't control your own biology -- which I don't think we will if "biology" can be considered intelligent.)

In conclusion: I want to be the Twin Prime to the Singularity's Twin Prime.

Aziraphale's heavy box

Has anyone else noticed this. Crowley is evacuating the humans from the ball S2E5 about 37 mins in. Aziraphale says "I'm trying to save your lives" After Crowley says "Nina are you coming, no staying behind to die bravely" Nina and Maggie exchange looks and in the background Aziraphale is lugging a big heavy box out from behind a curtain.

Never noticed it before or seen any mention of it but that's not to say there isn't a massive meta about it already.
