Fethry has always insisted that "A warm head is a happy, healthy head". This is why he always has his signature red stocking cap on.
In "The Depth of Cousin Fethry!", both Huey and Fethry seemed to have derived this knowledge from their Junior Woodchuck guidebooks. However, I think they had (also) learnt this "life tip" from their own personal experience.
Huey might have been taught this knowledge by his Uncle Donald.
While Fethry...well.
When they were kids (which was...when they were still together), Abner used to pat/rub Fethry's head (as a form of affectionate teasing (?)). Fethry didn't mind that, but one time he was curious and playfully asked his brother about that action.
Abner replied, "To keep your big noggin' warm. You know, a warm head is a happy, healthy head."
And Fethry keeps this line close to his heart.
It is more than just a mere scientific knowledge. It is a remembrance of the past, a symbol of love, and a promise to his big brother, that he will take care of himself when he is alone in the outside world.
His stocking cap was a hand-made, parting gift from his brother Abner, as a substitution to keep his head warm when they are apart. And a sign that no matter how far they are by distance, their hearts will always be close to each other.
To Fethry, a warm head not only keeps his head healthy, but also keeps his heart strong. Fethry will never take his cap off, until the day the brothers reunite.

Headcanon of Dugan Duck
He is 6 years old (he is 6-7 years younger than the triplets).
His birthday is May (referring to his official publication date)
He has a great affection for his father, who raised him since he hatched from the egg.
His mother is Donna Duck, she abandoned him when he was an egg (that part will be explored later) and that, Dugan generated a rejection towards her.
He has respect for Della, since he imagines her as the mother he wanted to have. Although he loves Clara Cluck, who is his mother figure and sometimes calls her mother Clara.
He gets along well with the triplets, especially with Huey, who sees him as a big brother; with Dewey, they have a little rivalry, but they get along well and play a lot; with Louie, he teases him with jokes, although he admits he likes him and Louie accepts his games.
With Webby, they don't get along. He sees her as annoying and stuck up; while she makes it hard for him to have a nice time and tries hard.
The only uncle he respects is Donald, with Gladstone he sees him as pathetic and Fethry (his direct uncle) as a raving lunatic and still doesn't believe he is of the same family, although Fethry showed affection when he learned he has a direct nephew. With Scrooge, he doesn't like him, because of his dad.
He loves physical activities, especially baseball, nicknaming himself "Whitewater jr."
His only friend is Cintia, he is already very fighty with other children.
She is Cintia (for those who wonder, she appeared in the comics, although very little).
Tumblr media
He has absurd strength, due to training with his father; it is enhanced by his carrying his baseball bat.
The only adults he respects are: His father (Abner), Clara Cluck, Della, Donald, The Captain (until "a certain thing" happens) and Ajax, the gorilla (because he is his dad's friend).
Its representative color is yellow (referring to Phooey's available position).
He wears a cap with pompoms because his father told him he looked good and smiled at him. Also because of a birthmark on the back of his head that embarrasses him.
That would be all, for now. There may be more. I hope you like these headcanon, any doubt you can write me.

The Death of West; The Life of East
(A/N: I'll write something cheerful one day.
But that day.
Is not today. :D)
"EJ?"
That voice. He couldn't get himself to place it. It was too fuzzy. Too drowned out by the ringing in his ears.
"East...? Are you alright?"
He looked at the speaker, but his vision was blurred. He couldn't make anything out but smudges of color.
He leaned against the doorway (Doorway? Wasn't he at the cliffs?) for support as he tried to calm down and take a deep breath, but he was too choked up to manage anything.
What was wrong with him? Why couldn't he breathe? Why couldn't he stop shaking? Why was his face wet? Was he crying? He didn't cry.
A worried Connecticut put down the muddy shoe he was cleaning and approached the distressed colony standing in the front door.
"What happened?" He asked, thoroughly concerned as he guided his little brother to a chair, "Where's West?"
West. West was just with him, where did he go?
East Jersey thought back and tried to recall.
He remembered going with West to Elias Green's tavern an hour and a half ago.
Then they were thrown out thirty minutes later for... EJ got into an argument with Abner, right? It broke into a fight? West got involved and tried to break the two up. Elias thought he was joining in, so he threw all three of them out before they destroyed anything.
EJ was livid. He wanted to get some fresh air and clear his head, so he asked WJ to come with him to the...
Oh God, East's eyes widened as his face paled, The Palisades.
The final memories came rushing back to him;
West agreed to come. The two were talking. Joking around. Goofing off and walking by the edge. The sun was setting.
East was in the lead, ranting about the fight and how he was sorry for dragging his twin into it.
West was listening, saying it wasn't a big deal, and then... he cried out. EJ thought he was joking, since the two often did that to try to scare one another, but when he turned around to give his twin an incredulous look, he was... gone.
And that's when East heard the impact of the fall.
He made himself look over the edge, and... and...
East hung his head and sobbed. He killed his brother.
He killed his brother. It was his fault.
If he just sucked up his bitterness and went home with West, none of this would of happened.
If he was simply more mature about the argument and walked away to enjoy his night, none of this would of happened.
If he never suggested to go to Elias's in the first place, none of this would of—
"...East."
That uneasy voice. Those footsteps. The shoes entering his field of vision. None of them were Connecticut's. They belonged to someone else.
Someone who started feeling distressed the second West fell, despite being oblivious to the entire situation. Someone who felt that unexplainable despair three times before.
Eyes overflowing with tearful remorse, EJ looked up to his father.
"...Vader, I... West..." East choked out, "H... He's..."
EJ trailed off and let out a shuddering breath. The colony couldn't even bear the thought of saying it, much less get it out. He dreaded the words too much. He couldn't do it. It would make everything... real.
He didn't want it to be.
Luckily, he didn't have to. His shred of an answer confirmed Roanoke's fears.
The retired colony crouched down by his son and gently wiped his tears with a trembling hand, not noticing his own starting to fall freely in silence.
After a long moment, he found his ability to speak.
"...I know," Roanoke admitted, broken voice scarcely above a whisper, "I... I felt it..."
EJ tried his hardest to fight down his sobs. He failed. It wasn't long until he was on his knees and crying into his dad's shirt, clinging to him as if letting go would make him disappear into the wind.
Roanoke sat on the floor and wrapped his arms around East in a tight hug, bowing his head and shaking with his own cries as he held his mourning son close.
──────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────
Roanoke stood watching from a distance, pulled to the side by Kingdom of England.
He was shaky and as pale as a ghost, rueful eyes tinted red from prior tears while his kingdom spoke to him in hushed tones with a cold expression.
It looked almost as if England was lecturing him. As if Roanoke was a bratty child needing a stern talking-to, instead of being the mourning parent in need of comfort he was.
Connecticut looked away. It hurt to watch. It's not like the view of West Jersey's freshly covered grave in front of him felt any better to observe, but there was nothing he could do to help his father in that situation. As an English colony, he'd only make it worse. Connecticut could only listen while England grieved his grandson in his own screwed up way by blaming his son.
"An accident? I couldn't care less about it being an 'accident.' I care about you keeping my grandchildren alive!"
"I... I care about that, too!" The other argued, "You know I do! More than anything—!"
England cut Roanoke off by jerking his hand up, earning a wince from his son before he motioned to a distant hill covered in poppies, decorated by a single carefully crafted gravestone.
He then jerked his hand in the other direction, towards a perfectly lovely spot under a large willow tree. Or at least a spot that seemed perfectly lovely, until you see the tombstone marked with the lifespan of nine years.
Finally, he pointed to a garden about fourty yards away, yet another tombstone peaking through the flowers.
Popham, Saybrook, and New Haven.
"Then start acting like it, Ro. It's a simple task! It's incredible how easy it is for you to mess things up!" England snapped, glowering, "I can't believe how irresponsible you are! Without me, the rest of your children would of been in the ground years ago."
"I..."
"You, what?"
"It wasn't my..." Roanoke continued, seeming unsure if he believed his own words, "I don't see how this is my fau—"
"Of course it's your fault! Who else is there to blame? The cliff? East?"
Connecticut glanced to the twin of the deceased beside him, feeling a sting of sadness at East's cringe of guilt.
Without a word, East Jersey's older brother took his hand and guided him away from the one-sided argument, the sounds of England convincing their father he was to blame growing distant.
He was a little happy New York wasn't listening. Connecticut wasn't sure if he could've held him back from fighting with England, a scenario that would've worsened Roanoke's situation.
Instead, the spitfire of a colony was comforting New Netherland— Connecticut, New York, and the Jerseys' own mother— as she adorned her late son's resting place with flowers. At least, he was trying to. The retired Dutch colony was justifiably inconsolable.
Once the gravesite, weeping mother, and arguing relatives were out of view and earshot, East... Province of New Jersey yanked his arm out of Connecticut's grasp.
"...East—"
"I'm fine," New Jersey snapped, rubbing his wrist, "You don't need to worry about me like a mother hen. I know what I did, there's no use in ignoring it."
"It wasn't your fault," Connecticut insisted, "You know how Grandfather gets, he was just going off on a tangent and spewing bull—"
"I'm not say it was Father's fault, I'm saying it was mine."
"That's not what I—"
"Then shut up!" New Jersey hissed, "Just... leave me alone!"
"Ea—"
New Jersey held his hand up with a glare, silencing Connecticut before turning and storming away.
"East, please—"
New Jersey shoved between and past Massachusetts and Rhode Island, who were walking side by side in Connecticut's direction.
"The hell...?" Rhode Island muttered, glancing behind him, "Why's he so livid all of a sudden? What happened, River?"
"I... " Connecticut replied, feeling lost, "...I think I ticked him off?"
"How?"
"I don't... know."
Rhode Island seemed unsatisfied with the poor excuse of an answer.
"...Well," RI reasoned, "There had to be something—"
"Or nothing," Massachusetts finished calmly, straightening the sleeve New Jersey messed up when bumping into him.
His younger half-brothers looked to him, eyes imploring him to elaborate.
"He's... His temper is a little unruly today," Massachusetts went on, "He yelled at me over putting his shoes in his room instead of leaving them by the back door this morning."
"Yell?" Rhode Island asked incredulously, "Are you sure? East never yells about trivial things like that."
"He... has a lot on his mind. For him to have to see West... to see... Lord Almighty, I couldn't imagine..."
Massachusetts trailed off, but the others understood.
"He's..." Rhode Island spoke up after a brief pause, "He'll be fine, right?"
"...Grief comes in many different ways for everyone," The Bay Colony explained, "At the moment, East's way is anger. Just... give him some space. He doesn't really want to offend or hurt you. He's just... getting over something. We all are. Be patient with him."
──────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────
Patience. That can get used up quickly.
Everyone tried their best to stay patient with Jersey. Many tried to comfort him to no avail, so they resorted to walking on eggshells around him while he mourned.
For the days that followed, everyone fought down the urge to hold a grudge with him when he lashed out. The weeks that followed were designed with the same pattern. Then the months. Then the year...
It wasn't long until the one and a half years mark struck, when someone's well of patience finally dried up.
"Can you please shut the hell up already!?" New York exclaimed, shooting up from his seat and slamming the table, "We get it! You're a total ass! Now eat your damn porridge before I do everyone a favor and shove it down your throat!"
After he broke the ice, one by one, the colonies slowly stopped spending all their patience on New Jersey.
"It's been months. I really don't think he's mourning anymore... I'm starting to think he's simply gotten used to walking all over us," Rhode Island ranted to Delaware, "I'm sick of letting him. He's fine, probably more than fine with the way we've been inflating his ego."
In truth, New Jersey wasn't alright. At all.
He still tormented himself over West Jersey's death. He hasn't had a single good night's sleep since it happened. He was still angry. Mostly at himself, but his self-hatred seeped into the way he interacted with others. By the time he realized what he was doing and reigned it in, it was too late.
His siblings looked at him differently, and not in the good way. Whenever he approached one of them, they seemed prepared for an argument. Every time he tried to show some kindness, they were suspicious.
Whether they realized it or not, they treated him like he was a terrible person. It didn't take much for him to start believing them.
He didn't feel like East Jersey anymore. He felt like some sort of irredeemable monster.
Maybe that's all he can be.
He was tired of trying to prove them wrong.
──────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────
"There's no way."
"There is! I swear, that's what Massachusetts said!"
"Then I want what Mass is smoking," North Dakota joked, cutting vegetables for dinner, "Jers was never cuddly, even when he was a colony."
"How do you know?" South Dakota retorted, putting some bread in the oven, "You weren't alive when he was a colony."
"Because I asked Georgia. She says he's always been the same."
Connecticut listened to the two as he washed a couple recently used measuring cups, back facing them.
It was odd for him to remember pre-1702 New Jersey. He was a totally different person back then, one Georgia never got to know. She was born in 1732, thirty years after the Garden State's jarring personality shift.
He almost wanted to speak up and explain that to the Dakotas, but he knew they wouldn't believe him. None of the younger states ever did.
He guessed it was a little unimaginable to them, to think that the quickest to anger state they knew their entire lives was once one of the most huggable people in the world.
Connecticut glanced out the kitchen window above the sink, getting lost in his thoughts as he watched New Jersey weed his garden.
He missed the brothers he lost in 1702. Both of them.
After a moment of zoning out, a tap on his arm brought him back to reality.
"Uhm... Uncle Nutmeg?" Central Jersey asked, timidly pointing to the measuring cup in Connecticut's hand, "It's clean now. You don't have to keep rinsing it."
"Oh! Right," Connecticut realized sheepishly, handing the kitchenware to the self-appointed dish dryer, "Sorry CJ."
The kid hummed happily as he finished drying the measuring cup, placing it in it's drawer.
"All done!" He smiled, "Is there anything else I can do to help?"
Connecticut turned off the faucet and shook his head.
"Nope! That's it," CT said, ruffling the little one's hair, "Thanks for the help!"
Central Jersey gave a little laugh at the hair ruffling, filling Connecticut with a sense of nostalgia.
A scene of East and West Jersey giggling the same way played in his mind. They were about Central's age at the time, helping Connecticut take care of the horses. After a couple hours of work, the two proudly went up to him and declared that they were done. He remembered thanking them with a grin before reaching out and ruffling the two rascals' hair.
The bittersweet memory sent a pang of longing through Connecticut's heart. He missed them. He missed them so much.
Having Central Jersey around was a blessing for everyone, in that regard. He was just like his father when he was his age. It helped... stifle the pain, a little. CJ helped patch up whatever holes the Jersey twins left behind in everybody's hearts.
Speaking of which...
"Central! I didn't know you were dropping by today!"
Central's eyes widened at the sound of America's voice, spinning around and rushing into his grandpa's outstretched arms for a hug.
"I thought you were out today!" The boy exclaimed, hugging the tall country.
"Out of my mind? Probably. Out of the house? Nope!" America grinned, "So, what brings you into our neck of the woods?"
"Mom has some work to take care of tonight, so she's picking me up tomorrow morning!"
"Ah, so she dropped you off with your old man?"
"She...! She... dropped me off with my old man," Central Jersey agreed, excitement seeming a little dampened at the mention of his dad.
America exchanged a knowing glance with Connecticut.
"Have you seen him yet?"
Central Jersey hesitantly shook his head, "...I don't think he'd want to see me."
"...Aw, c'mon. I'm sure that's not—"
New Jersey opened the kitchen door and kicked his muddy boots off, trudging in with a basket of tomatoes. He placed them on the counter and turned around to go back out to the garden.
America cleared his throat.
New Jersey paused, hand hovering over the doorknob. He gave an annoyed, drawn-out sigh as he turned around, "What did I do this—?"
He stopped short and stared at Central Jersey.
"His mother," America answered, motioning to CJ, "You did his mother this time."
CJ offered a small wave.
An awkward silence fell upon the group.
"...Heyyy, CJ," New Jersey eventually greeted, seeming extremely uncomfortable, "How's it... going?"
"I'm... alright," Central Jersey smiled shyly, "You?"
"Fine, fine. Just... screwing around. And... stuff. So, your mom's still alive?"
"Uhm... Yes?"
"Ah. Cool, cool. That's... that's always nice..." New Jersey slowly opened the door, "Well... I'm gonna go. Seedlings don't water themselves. It was... nice seeing you."
"Yeah... It... It was nice seeing you too. I love—!"
New Jersey practically slammed the door on his way out.
"...You."
North Dakota crept up beside Central Jersey and wrapped an arm around him.
"Hey, kiddo," She started gently, "How about we let Dak finish up in the kitchen, and we can go see if anyone's up for a card game?"
Central Jersey's eyes lit up at the thought, "Cards Against Humanity?"
"I really shouldn't be letting someone your age play— Aw hell, why not? Everyone needs a bad influence in their life. Cards Against Humanity."
The two strolled away giddily, off to play a game Utah definitely banned from family game night.
Connecticut and South Dakota looked to their father.
"...I know, I'm... I'll go talk to him," America sighed, "Being a deadbeat father is a job for England, not a job for one of my sons."
With that, United States left through the door New Jersey just slammed.
──────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────
"What was that?"
"A basket of tomatoes," New Jersey mumbled, not looking up from his weeding, "They're fruits. Italians worship them. You might recognize them from pizza sauce?"
"That's not what I meant and you know it."
New Jersey bit his lip and continued weeding, trying to ignore the presence of his father.
"...New Jersey."
"I'm busy."
"Jersey."
"Not now."
"Jers."
"I have to get these—"
"East.”
New Jersey froze.
"..." He stood up and brushed himself off, "...There's a name I haven't heard in awhile."
America followed New Jersey as he attempted to escape to the garden shed, "Why are you so against being there for Central?"
"I'm not... against it."
"Then why aren't you?"
New Jersey grabbed a watering can and trudged out of the shed, "...It's complicated."
"It's your son."
NJ turned on the hose.
"Unfortunately..." New Jersey muttered after the watering can was full, shutting off the hose and trudging to a group of seedlings.
America's eye twitched. He snatched the watering can from New Jersey and set it down beside him firmly, slapping NJ's hand away from it when he tried to reach for it.
New Jersey slowly withdrew his hand and looked down, not meeting America's eyes.
"Do you hear yourself right now?" America snapped, "What the hell is wrong with you? Inside that house is a kid who loves you more than anything, despite you not giving him a single damn reason to! All he wants is to have you in his life! If you keep this up, that's going to change."
"F%>k, I hope so."
"What the hell is wrong with you? You love him, don't you?"
New Jersey eyed the watering can in silence.
"...You love him," America tried again, attempting to control his frustration, "Don't you?"
"...Shut up."
"Jersey—"
"Shut the hell up!"
"You don't have to—!"
"I love him more than anything on this earth, dammit!"
"Then why—?"
"Because he doesn't need me! Because I'm the kind of person I want staying the hell away from him! Because I'd screw him the f%+k up! I'd ruin his life!" New Jersey exclaimed, "He doesn't need to know the... the monster of a person his dad is! I couldn't bear the thought of burdening someone as wonderful as him with me!"
America, taken aback by New Jersey's outburst, stayed silent in surprise.
"Lord, imagine if I actually influenced him? Imagine if he grew up to be like me?" New Jersey shook his head, full-on ranting now, "I couldn't live with that. He can't— He can't! I love him, dammit! I want to keep egotistical, selfish, awful, br— brother-murdering assholes away from him! I want to keep myself away—!"
America reached out to his distressed son, "...Jer—"
"I love him, I do! I'm so proud of him and everything he does! It— It hurts, having to stay away from him like this, but it has to be done! I don't deserve him! I'm- I'm irredeemable! Everyone knows this! This is all I can b—!"
America pulled New Jersey into a tight hug.
The Garden State trembled like a leaf in the wind, but made no moves to free himself.
"Th... This is all I—" He choked out, "All I can..."
"No. That's not— That's never been true, Jersey," America denied, gently rubbing NJ's back as he cried.
"You're— You're lying," New Jersey stuttered, "It's— It's always been... Since..."
"...Since when?" America asked gently, "How long have you felt...?"
"Since— Since I killed West..."
Oh Lord. West's death was 320 years ago.
America felt like an absolute idiot for not noticing sooner.
Was he really too wrapped up in getting over England's accusations to realize that he might not be the only one feeling guilty?
"You didn't... kill West."
"I did."
"Did you push him off?"
New Jersey's eyes widened, "No, of course not!"
"So he fell off by himself? With no outside interference?"
New Jersey nodded.
"So you didn't kill him?"
"Ye— No!"
"Let's say, hypothetically, Michigan invited Ohio on a walk. On the way, Ohio tripped and fell into a pit of piranhas and was completely consumed, bones and all—"
"That's morbid, Dad."
"—Was it Michigan's fault?"
"Michigan probably put the piranhas there for revenge."
"Assuming he didn't, did he murder Ohio?"
"...No."
"So, when West Jersey fell; it wasn't your fault."
"That's different."
"How?"
"It just... is?"
"..."
"...Shut up."
"I didn't say anything."
"I can feel your stupid eyes judging me. Listen, if it wasn't my fault, who's was it?"
"...Nobody's," America sighed, "Sometimes, bad things happen, and as much as you hate it; there's no one to blame."
"I don't... That doesn't sound right."
"I know," America admitted, "But it's true."
"So what?" New Jersey huffed, "Let's say I didn't kill West, that doesn't change the fact that I'm a total piece of—"
"Hey! Don't talk about my son that way."
New Jersey's eye roll was almost audible.
"Like it or not Jers, you're redeemable," America decided confidently.
"Redemption?" New Jersey gave a mirthless laugh, "Please, I haven't even been able to get my grief about something that happened over three centuries ago to shrink."
"Grief doesn't... shrink."
"...What?"
"Trust me, it never does. It... It stays the same size forever. Life just grows around it."
"Life just... grows around it?" New Jersey looked up to America, "How can I make it do that?"
"I think... Therapy. Therapy might be a good start for you."
New Jersey snorted.
"What? I'm serious!"
New Jersey studied America's face.
"...Really?" He asked incredulously, "You're serious?"
"As the plague."
"Which one?"
America shrugged, "Any of them, pick your favorite."
"Black Death."
"Sure, I'm as serious as the bubonic plague."
"You..." New Jersey hesitated, realizing that America wasn't joking, "Really think it'll help, don't you?"
His father nodded, "I do, Jersey. I really do."
"Then... Maybe... For you, I'll... For— For Central, I'll..."
"It'll be okay, Jers. You'll be okay."
New Jersey nodded and took a deep breath.
"Alright," He said, giving a small, hopeful smile, "I'll go."

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Calum smugly walks around the apartment with his UNBURNED toaster pastries, rubbing it in Abner's face.
Tumblr media
Abner: Eh, I don't think you really need to go to college, son. The only thing kids do at college these days is party.
Pretty sure Abner is just more worried about the cost.
Tumblr media
OH HELL NO, BRANDI. These kids are like two days from being out of the house.
Tumblr media
FUCK. That is all I have to say about that. These guys are elders in just a few days!
Tumblr media
Calum's Ex: Oh, shit, there's Calum's dad. Do you think he saw me? Maybe he didn't see me.
Narrator: Abner did in fact see her.
Tumblr media
Brandi: So please tell me we have the kids' old toys stored in a box somewhere so we don't have to rebuy everything, okay?
Narrator: They did not have any toddler things stored in a box somewhere
Tumblr media
Calum: So yeah, not quite sure what to do about my psycho ex. She comes over every day and kicks the trash can over!
Tumblr media
Dylan: Well, never stick your dick in crazy, Calum. That's my motto!
Calum: ...I'm still a virgin, Dylan.
Tumblr media
Abner: So as I was saying, Dylan, college is useless and you really shouldn't attend.
Tumblr media
Dylan: Dad, I'm a fortune Sim. I HAVE to go to college. I have a couple of scholarships, it'll be FINE.
Tumblr media
Well, here we go again.
Tumblr media
And this is how little Edward? I think? Was brought into the world, amidst the stench of his father's poop.
Sorry for the crappy screenshot and cropping lol
Tumblr media
Calum sits and contemplates why he thought it would be a good idea to have sex with his wife with no birth control.
Tumblr media
Dylan wonders why he has to spend his final days at home sharing them with an infant.
Tumblr media
But he's an adorable big brother.
Tumblr media
Brandi, wondering how this happened so late in life. I'll tell you, Brandi! ALL THE WOOHOO.
Tumblr media
Fitness is Dylan's chosen hobby so he jump ropes a lot. Remind me to get a default workout outfit for teens, please.
Tumblr media
She's your mom's friend, Dyla! Stop it.
Tumblr media
Calum: Dammit (ex-girlfriend who's name I can't remember), quit coming over here and kicking over our trash can! I don't want to call the cops but I will if I have to!
Tumblr media
Dylan: We broke up because you were crazy mean to me and made me cry at the birthday party! Now MOVE ON, please!
Tumblr media
Ex-girlfriend does not understand why Calum should be so angry and this is because ex-girlfriend is an idiot crazy lady.
Tumblr media
Calum ages up to adult while Brandi burns hamburgers.
Tumblr media
Abner tries not to choke on the blackened burgers...
Tumblr media
...while Calum has a nervous breakdown in the bathroom about his crazy-exgirlfriend.
Tumblr media
And also the fact that he didn't go to college.
Tumblr media
Bye, Calum! Enjoy your new townie life!

Recently noticed I have a decent amount of comic strip collections covering work released in 1933: I’ve got a Krazy And Ignatz book, “Necromancy By The Blue Bean Bush” covering 1933 and 1934, the last Walt And Skeezix book, volume 7, covers the same years. The big Fantagraphics Popeye hardcover “Let’s You And Him Fight” covers that year. I recently tracked down Garrett Price’s White Boy, which is really good, and that starts its run in 1933. I have had the idea before that it would be cool to read a bunch of comic strips, one day at a time, replicating the experience one would’ve had reading them in the paper. It just so happens that 2023 has the same calendar as 90 years prior: Both kick off with a Sunday, neither year is a leap year. After I resolved to do this project, I found out that the Library Of American Comics Essentials volume for Polly And Her Pals reproduces the dailies from this year, that’s a strip I like, so I ordered that book.
I think the plan is to have a Discord group I could post these strips to, while other people handle other strips from the same year. Even though part of me hates the idea of taking photos of all these books and posting every day, I imagine I would benefit from reading other strips I don’t necessarily want to track down the book collections of. 1933 is an interesting year in comics history: Superheroes and comic books aren’t a thing yet, but the kinks are worked out of the comic strip, which are going strong as popular entertainment. Dick Tracy is up and running, so’s Alley Oop. It’s the Depression, Harold Gray is doing Little Orphan Annie, and that’s the same year the Little Joe strip, also collected by Sunday Press, starts up, I believe. Lil’ Abner, by the conservative piece of shit Al Capp, doesn’t start up until 1934 so I don’t have to think about it. There’s two other LOAC Essentials books covering that year that seem interesting - one is a strip that starts off as a Dick Tracy ripoff, the other is a proto-adventure strip that features art by Alex Raymond as it goes on.
1933 is also an interesting year for film - That’s the year the first King Kong comes out, as well as a bunch of pre-Code Hollywood stuff. I’ve never seen a Marx Brothers movie, that’s when Duck Soup comes out. German expressionism is still going strong, ‘33 is when Fritz Lang puts out The Testament Of Dr. Mabuse, an absolute banger. The list of top books from 1933 on Goodreads includes Gertrude Stein’s Autobiography Of Alice B. Toklas and George Orwell’s Down And Out In Paris And London. I could easily supplement my strip-reading with other work from the same era, all while essentially maintaining the expectation that the work in question would feel modern.

Idle comic/story idea thoughts, probably won't go anywhere
I've been thinking about the different story ideas I've had over the years, and how if I ever wanted to do the comics I wanted to do in middle school and high school the best thing to do would be to understand the original intent, and what I was unconsciously putting into the story from my life, and think of better executions with that intent in mind.
With Para, I thought a lot about how it reflected being a teenager and the issues in school & my social life I had because of my autism and ADHD, friction with the expectations of my parents and schooling, and my dreams of making comics as a form of escapism (you can see the escapism thing in all the big comic ideas, especially in Excitement and Adventure where it's more deconstructed); when I thought about rebooting that story as a web serial or a podcast or something I had wanted that to be the core theme, cut out the clumsier bits and the really clueless, edgy, & offensive portrayals of mental illness & psychosis, and make those themes more overt. But I lost interest, and frankly I don't think I could make it into a coherent, exciting story in the way I wanted to.
So, to spoil the final arc & ending (or the later version of the ending that was actually interesting), it was going to be revealed that the thing behind Para's & various characters' weird powers and their parents' alien abductions was basically a UFO that was modified into a massive eldritch monster, and it was running around the timeline, engineering those powers to bring back its master, who had been erased from time, frozen in the dead, overwritten timeline; that master was an alternate, adult version of Para.
She didn't have the same ability to see ghosts, no interest in the paranormal, or the adopted alien brother, she'd just had a huge dissatisfaction with her life that couldn't be sated, and after she discovered magic, she started gathering power by stealing souls, modifying herself into something that would be better at stealing souls and gathering power until she became a horrible eldritch being who couldn't recognize herself or what she had ever wanted.
For some reason the story was supposed to end with Para's soul leaving her body with all those interdimensional surgery powers, metamorphosing into a distinct being, and fighting Evil Para, while Para's body & mind basically had to be institutionalized and make a slow recovery to sanity? I'm not sure why I thought that would be a good ending. I also remember that in the more recent web serial/podcast version, I wanted the supercomputer that both acts as the ship's intelligence and an extension of Evil Para's mind to be an amalgamation of early villain Abner (the murderous alien who's a foil to protagonist alien-in-a-child-body Norm) and Para's mother, and that I could pull some interesting themes and character dynamics from that. I dunno if I actually could, whatever.
So, what am I getting at with all that?
I was thinking about how, if I wanted a new story idea that reflected my current life, it would probably be something about a depressed, disenchanted adult figuring out how to deal with the drudgery of mundane life. So it would be REALLY funny if, without actually making the original story, I made a sequel where Evil Para gets forced to become a regular human again, and figure out how to exist in this new and unrecognizable world where a different version of herself was the true hero of the story, and everyone here knows she was a spooky witch-ant-queen-thing who tried to take over the world.
But all of that's probably null and void, because in retrospect Para and Evil Para are probably just transmasc, right? Ah well. Night everybody.

Lilium / Sorriso
Under the grey, cloudy sky, two brothers walked along the grassy path, although only one pair of footprints was left on the nature's trail.
Abner Duck carried his younger brother on his back, the yellow duckling deep in slumber against the teenage drake's head. Fethry's short arms were wrapped around his elder brother's neck, while Abner supported those short dangling legs with his own pair of arms.
Usually, the siblings would go home hand-in-hand. But today, Fethry had been especially drowsy after school, the homeroom teacher carrying a sleeping Fethry in her arms with an amused smile, when Abner arrived to pick his brother up.
Abner tried to imitate his father, when Eider Duck would carry a sleepy Fethry on his back, and walk home while avoiding shaking the fragile duckling awake.
Although Fethry was light, and Abner was somewhat strong, it was still the first time he had given someone a piggyback ride while moving. He constantly looked over his shoulders, and made sure Fethry wouldn't fall over or be woken up. Tiring it might be, just a look at the yellow duckling's innocent smile would make Abner forget all the fatigue in an instant.
Seeing as the sky slowly turned into a darker shade of grey, Abner slightly hastened his pace, hoping the rain would kindly wait until they had arrived home. The wind picked up as well, rustling the tall grass on either side of the country road.
"Os iusti meditabitur sapientiam
Et lingua eius loquetur iudicium
Beatus vir qui suffert tentationem
Quoniam cum probatus fuerit accipiet coronam vitae"
("The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom
His tongue speaks judgment
Blessed is the man who endures temptation
For once he has been tested, he shall receive the crown of life")
Unconsciously, Abner started to hum. Being in the vast countryside and embraced by the wild, Abner always had the urge to sing a little song. He reckoned he took that characteristic from his mother. Lulubelle Loon would often start humming, in the midst of picking wild flowers or tending the gardens. Abner never questioned why his mother would do that, but he wouldn't complain either. His mother's singing voice was soothing to listen to, more so than his own hoarse voice. Abner admitted he wasn't a good singer, after all.
"Kyrie, fons bonitatis
Kyrie, ignis divine, eleison"
("Lord, fount of goodness
Lord, divine fire, have mercy!")
Even the hymn he was humming had been learned from his mother. Abner didn't know the exact words,
let alone the meaning of those lyrics, written in an unknown language. He merely copied his mother's tongue, from having heard Lulubelle sing the song for so many times.
Abner liked the sound of the song, its melody almost like a lullaby. He remembered his mother had a wooden music box that played the exact song. It was a gift from his lumberjack mentor, handcrafted by the family friend as a birthday present for Ms Loon. Since then, she had placed the ornament in the living room, winding the musical instrument up from time to time, letting the calming melody be heard throughout their lovely, homely wooden cabin.
"O quam sancta, quam serena
quam benigna, quam amoena esse Virgo creditur
O quam sancta, quam serena, quam benigna, quam amoena
O castitatis lilium"
("Oh, how sacred, how serene
How benevolent, how pleasant this Virgin who believe
Oh, how sacred, how serene, how benevolent, how pleasant
Oh, lily of purity!")
Abner especially remembered his mother singing that song while carrying Fethry on her back, just like what he was doing now, as if the song was dedicated to his innocent younger brother. He specifically remembered, that his mother had once hummed the song to a sleeping Fethry, on a white lily field. It was a beautiful scene, with his mother's long white dress swaying in the wind, along with countless lilies of pure white dancing in the zephyr. The long tail of Fethry's red stocking cap, as well as the black furball at its end, were flowing in the breeze too, although their owner remained fast asleep.
White lilies were his mother's favourite, which was why Lulubelle had dedicated a portion of the flower farm to growing a sea of pure white lilies. When looked from a distance, it was as if someone had hung a large piece of white velvet cloth in the middle of the farmland.
It formed a stark contrast, with a patch of white among the colourful sea of flora. However, that's what made Lulubelle love the colour white so much.
"When everything else has colours, having no colour is a kind of uniqueness."
"White is such a fragile colour, so easily stained by dyes. This is what makes purity so precious."
Abner remembered his mother's words.
Looking at his slumbering younger brother, Abner too hoped Fethry would forever stay pure.
Pure as the white lily, never to be tainted.
"Kyrie, fons bonitatis
Kyrie, ignis divine, eleison
O quam sancta, quam serena
quam benigna, quam amoena esse Virgo creditur
O quam sancta, quam serena, quam benigna, quam amoena
O castitatis lilium"
("Lord, fount of goodness
Lord, divine fire, have mercy!
Oh, how sacred, how serene
How benevolent, how pleasant this Virgin who believe
Oh, how sacred, how serene, how benevolent, how pleasant
Oh, lily of purity!")

[The song in the story is Lilium ("Lily"), the anime OP of Elfen Lied. The lyrics (in Italic) and the title are actually in Latin.
Although I like the original version as well, I wrote the story according to Erutan's arrangement of the song.
Do give it a listen if available. Erutan is an amazing artist, and that arrangement of Lilium is what inspired this song story, too.]

[Mention of Loss of Parents, Fatal Car Accident]
Ludwig Von Drake held the gosling in his arms, gently stroking the child's soft blonde hair.
Although Gladstone was by no means a "gosling" at that point - now that his yellow down coat had been fully replaced with snow-white feathers - the young gander would forever be a little gosling in the old duck's eyes.
Right now, Ludwig was standing by a cliff, the snoozing goose being held close to his chest. The professor chuckled to himself, when the sleeping gosling twisted and turned in his embrace. He really wanted that moment recorded, but he knew he would always have that scene remembered, more strongly than any piece of knowledge he had learned as a lifelong scholar.
On a certain Saturday, Gladstone went on a field trip with the professor. It was a long ride to the destination, and Gladstone, however enthusiastic he was, had exhausted his energy being excited for the expedition. Half way through the ride, the gosling had fallen asleep on the back seat, in slumber even after arrival. Ludwig, ever careful and thoughtful with Gladstone, had decided to let the child wake up naturally.
The venue was a grassy cliffside, its ground a coat of lush green with a few oxeye daisies interspersed, ending with a cliff overlooking the milky, milky sea. The weather had been overcast, however, but it gave the nature's scenery another kind of beauty.
Wind howled from the waters, blowing towards the vegetation and the two visitors. Ludwig's grey hair was ruffled by the gale, as were his neatly ironed coat and dress shirt, but he did all he could to shield the fragile gosling in his arms from the wind.
Though the young goose was blessed with paranormal good luck, even the knowledge-hungry Ludwig wouldn't think for a second about studying Gladstone's magical abilities. All Ludwig cared for was his well-being, his happiness.
He would do anything for the gosling, after all.
In this turbulent world, Ludwig would do anything to protect Gladstone from the storms of destiny. Ludwig wouldn't let cruel fate take away his smile. Not again.
"Se di noi due uno solo potesse ricever l'amor del mondo
Io sarei felice di donarlo a te"
("If only one of us could receive love from the world
I would be happy to give the chance to you")
Ludwig had never thought about being a father, nor had his wife, Matilda McDuck. Ludwig had only foreseen himself to live the rest of his life surrounded by books and paper. Despite a loving couple, Ludwig and Matilda had never planned to have a child of their own. Ludwig was good at a lot of expertises, but child-caring was one field he couldn't say anything about. One field that his sister-in-law Hortense McDuck would know much better in.
But of all the things the wise professor could predict, the child in his arms was not one of them. Then again, no one could have predicted the future, no?
"Accettalo senza esitazione, te ne prego
Io ti stringo dolcemente nell'abbraccio del mio amore più sincero"
("Please accept it without hesitation
I will gently embrace you, with sincere love from my heart")
Gladstone was a wonderful boy, more than everything a parent could hope for their child. Polite, bright, kind...and blessed by the goddess of luck, protecting him from all sorts of woe and misfortune.
At first, Ludwig had always worried about Gladstone getting hurt, for his four-leaf clover attracted quite a number of green-eyed monsters. He would ask Gladstone to stay vigilant at all times, giving him advice on how to protect himself. Gladstone was obedient, yet dangers would sometimes still reach the young gander. However, whatever perils might happen, Gladstone would always reach home unscathed. Ludwig knew it must have been the work of the little goose's blessing, and he thanked the gift for that.
"Te ne prego, va avanti per la strada che tu credi
Prego perché tu non perda mai la tua anima pura e sincera"
("Please, go on the way you believe in
I pray that you will never lose your pure and sincere soul")
With the gosling in his life, Ludwig had done many things he didn't think he would ever do. He remembered going to the children's boutique for the first time, confident that he could make the gosling look smart and handsome...only to end up holding his hands up and letting the shopkeeper pick out the clothes for little Gladstone.
Or the first time Gladstone had a fever, to which Ludwig responded by immediately rushing the child to the hospital. He had forgotten he was also a licensed, professional physician, until he saw the sheepish look of the doctor on-call, obviously puzzled as to why the professor was panicking over a common cold.
Also deep in his memories was the first parent-teacher meeting. The primary school principal had remarked Gladstone's excellent behaviour, which made the student blush in shyness and the parent smile in pride. Somehow, hearing someone praise the gosling under his wing made Ludwig feel the proudest. He thought he couldn't be prouder of himself anymore, having been the most respected scholar in the entire world, the bearer of countless degrees and honours. Yet, being praised a good father made all those other titles feel no longer important. Right now, he was the father of the little goose, and he took utmost pride in that and that alone.
The parents' meet-up afterwards was also quite the experience for Ludwig. He had been nervous about meeting up with a lot of parents, who would undoubtedly be much more skilled in parenting than the senile geezer. However, when the event commenced, Ludwig felt his parental instincts kicked in, and he quickly blended in with the mothers and fathers in the venue. He listened to many funny stories of the parents and their chicks, and shared his own with his beloved Gladstone, to which the gosling pouted in embarrassment. Though, Ludwig must have been oblivious to the curious gazes of the adults there, wondering why the world-renown Professor Ludwig Von Drake suddenly had a child of his own, or why an old drake was even raising a young gander in the first place.
The elderly duck thought he knew everything, but the little gosling proved him otherwise.
Ludwig had never thought about being a father, but he did not regret becoming one, too. It was a surprise, of course, but a welcomed one nevertheless.
Ludwig only hoped Gladstone felt the same as well.
"Se uno di noi due fosse scelto per il regno della morte
Io sarei felice di offrirmi"
("If one of us were chosen to leave for the kingdom of death
I would be happy to sacrifice myself")
When Ludwig Von Drake received the tragic news, it was as if a dagger had pierced through his heart.
Matilda had already broken down, sobbing in a chair next to her husband. Ludwig held the telephone in one hand, a balled-up fist in another. His normally cheery expression was all gone, replaced by a deep shade of melancholy. His usual bubbly bill remained shut. His quick mind was at a loss for words.
Still, Ludwig remained calm. He needed to, when everyone was devastated by the unfortunate accident happening at the worst time possible. He was the Professor Ludwig Von Drake. He had to come up with a solution when no one could. He had to be the problem-solver when no one would. There was no time for him to panic or be sad. There shouldn't be.
But for the first time, Ludwig just stood there. He said nothing, but his mind was blank. He shed no tear, but his heart was cold. He needed to do something, he must. But he didn't know what to do.
For the first time, Ludwig didn't have a solution.
He hung up, without saying anything. He ended that day, without saying anything.
"Ti prego, non essere triste
Perché io già ricevo da te tanta felicità da non meritarla"
("Please, don't be sad for me
For I have already received from you so much more happiness than I deserve")
The next day, Ludwig and Matilda visited the Gander household, now the home of only one little gosling. It was a cold winter day, a morning in early January. The day after Gladstone's big day.
Hortense McDuck and Quackmore Duck had volunteered to accompany their nephew for the night of the incident. When Hortense welcomed her sister and brother-in-law, she immediately embraced Matilda, crying over her sister's shoulders. Quackmore, like Ludwig, said nothing, but grief was clearly visible in his eyes.
Everyone knew bad luck would befall Gladstone yesterday, but no one could have predicted how cruel fate could be to the poor little gosling.
Gladstone had always been a lucky fella. His supernatural good luck would always protect him from sorrow while bringing him smiles. But luck had its price, and the goddess of luck would always collect her debt, on a specific day every year: Gladstone Gander's birthday.
It was on this jolly day that Gladstone would experience all the misfortunes he should have encountered throughout the year. It was on his birthday, that Gladstone would become the unluckiest goose in the world for a day.
And that year, that fateful year...Luck had decided to claim Gladstone's parents as his payment, in a tragic road accident.
"Il mio cuor ti sarà per sempre vicino
Prego perché quel tuo sorriso gentile non si oscuri mai"
("My heart will always be close to you
I pray that your gentle smile will never be clouded")
Ludwig had known why he and his wife were called to the now-empty manor, as the four adults sat in the dinning room after a difficult discussion. He was never prepared for the option, but he understood the decision. Hortense and Quackmore already had two children of their own, as did Lulubelle and Eider, while Scrooge had a business to take care of. Ludwig and Matilda were the only ones who could possibly take in their orphaned young nephew.
Ludwig went upstairs to the gosling's room, where Gladstone had hid himself ever since the grim tidings had been disclosed. He was sitting on his bed, looking out of the small open window. Gladstone didn't speak to anyone, didn't shed a tear. He merely stared into the distance, hoping to wake up from this horrible nightmare. But his heart was on the verge of breaking, and Ludwig knew that. Because he was feeling the same as well.
Ludwig knocked lightly on the white wooden door, before sitting next to Gladstone on the children's bed. They didn't say anything, nor was there any need to. Gladstone had already heard the conversation downstairs, and the fact that his Uncle Ludwig came into his room afterwards only proved it further. Even if it had been a wild guess, it would have been correct as well. His dumb luck was back, after all.
The uncle and nephew sat there without a word.
Until the gentle snow suddenly fell, landing on the window sill. Gladstone's eyes widened, as pure white precipitates kept floating down from the cloudy sky. His body started to shiver, but not from the temperature. Tears started to form, but not from the wind.
Almost immediately, the mask of toughness shattered, when he remembered the terrible blizzard that took his parents away from him, on his very own happy birthday.
Gladstone threw himself into the embrace of his uncle, burying his head into the old duck's chest. He cried as much as he could, wails of grief and pain echoed throughout the once-homely abode. Drops of tear stained Ludwig's vest, and the professor's coat became wrinkled as Gladstone held firmly onto his uncle, letting all his bottled emotions out. It wasn't that Gladstone and Ludwig shared a particularly close relationship at that time. The bereaved gosling just wanted a warm, comforting hug, somewhere he could freely cry in. After all, he was just a child. A sad, confused, helpless child.
Ludwig gave his devastated nephew a big, heartfelt embrace in response, allowing the hapless gosling as much time as he needed. Ludwig held the weeping child close to himself, gently brushing the back of his soft feathered head, stroking his trembling back lovingly.
"Se di noi due uno solo potesse ricever l'amor del mondo
Io sarei felice di donarlo a te"
("If only one of us could receive love from the world
I would be happy to give the chance to you")
And then, for the first time since he had picked up the telephone yesterday, Ludwig felt himself sobbing. He had tried to stay strong and calm, but witnessing the heart-wrenching expression of the gosling broke his already cracked heart. The professor silently wept, bitter tears falling down his cheeks, as he whispered Gladstone's name with his shaking, raspy voice. It wasn't professional at all, but Ludwig didn't care. The professor comforted Gladstone, not as a child psychologist, but as his uncle, and his new guardian.
That day, Ludwig found someone only he could protect. Someone whose smile only he could protect.
Right here, in his arms.
"Prego perché quel tuo sorriso gentile
Sorriso, non si oscuri mai"
("I pray that your gentle smile
Your smile, will never be clouded")
----------------------
Gladstone rubbed his drowsy eyes, struggling to open them against the sleepiness and the relatively brighter environment. The young goose let out a big yawn, opening his bill to the largest before exhaling. When his vision became clear enough to see, he was greeted with the smile of an old duck.
"Hello 'dere! Mein kleine Gans!"
Ludwig patted the gosling affectionately, who had just woken up from the long sleep in his arms. Gladstone struggled in the elderly duck's embrace, puffing up his cheeks and pouting in protest.
"I'm not a kid anymore, Uncle Ludwig! And honestly, what does that even mean?"
Ludwig merely chuckled.
"Guess you'll have to find out yourself!"
To which Gladstone rolled his heavy eyes. He then noticed the breathtaking cliffside they were on, gasping lightly in astonishment.
"Oh, we are already there?"
Ludwig slowly sat down on the grassy field, the gosling still in his tender embrace.
"Yes, my dear Gladstone. Ready to explore the unknown, eager mind?"
Gladstone pondered for a while, before shaking his head subtly.
"Sorry...May I have a few more minutes...? I'll surely be ready to go after that..."
Ludwig smiled kindly, as the gosling was already failing to keep his eyes open. Half a minute later, Gladstone was once again asleep.
"Sure, my little goose..."
Gladstone leaned against the old duck's chest, snoring softly in his arms. Ludwig gently stroke the gosling's soft blonde hair, as Gladstone whispered in his sleep.
"Thanks, Dad..."

[Sorriso ("Smile") is an Italian song performed by Akiko Shikata, one of my favourite musicians since I was little. Shikata's folk music caught my heart when I first stumbled upon it, and since then has become a great inspiration to me.]

2 Samuel 7:1-8:18, John 14:15-31, Psalm 119:33-48, Proverbs 15:33
Today is the 25th day of May, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. It is wonderful to be here with you today, as we gather around the Global Campfire and take the next step forward together. Our next step leads us back into the book of second Samuel, where we are getting to know David and getting the opportunity to kind of contrast David with Israel's first King Saul, who has died in battle with the Philistines. So, let's pick up the story, we’re reading from the New English Translation this week, second Samuel chapters 7 and 8.
Commentary:
Okay so, in the book of second Samuel today, we see that David is firmly planted and established as the King of Israel, not just the King of Judah. And over the last couple of days, we've read of the different kind of, maneuvering and intrigue that's involved in…in this happening and indeed it's David's character, it's his responses to things that are happening in this tumultuous time that gets the people's attention, they’re watching him. So, for example, David and his men were sent away from the battle with the Philistines, they were supposed to be Philistines in the battle but they were sent back to Ziklag right, and Ziklag was burned down by the Amalekites and they had to chase them down and get all their stuff back. When they get back to Ziklag, a man comes into the camp with news and the news tells about Israel's defeat at the hand of the Philistines and the death of Saul and his sons and the man bringing the news claimed to have been the one to kill King Saul, after he had been mortally wounded. Well, David had already established his position on, never raising his hand against God's anointed and this person was claiming to have done just that. And so, the person who is expecting to be rewarded and maybe elevated in David's kingdom, well, his life comes to an end. And David goes to Hebron within the lands of the tribe of Judah. He is made king over the Judains, the people of the tribe of Judah. And incidentally, just as a little aside, this is where the term Jew comes from, Judah, someone from the tribe of Judah because, as we will see, as we continue our journey, that's pretty much all that's left. Back to David, David is the King of Judah. He has a bit of a military, he has a military commander named Joab. The house of Saul, also has a military commander, his name is Abner. Abner, is backing Saul's son, Ish-bosheth as the king of Israel. They meet together, there a battle begins Joab's brother, Asahel. So, Joab is the military commander for David. David, his brother, Asahel is chasing Abner who is the military commander for Israel. Abner ends up killing Asahel in battle then later, Joab assassinates Abner for killing his brother in peacetime. And we can be like, well, doesn't…hasn't that stuff happened all along. Like, what's the big deal? The big deal is how David responds. David grieves and mourns and fasts and weeps over Abner, who was a military hero, protecting the king of Israel. The people are watching this because it would make sense for David to have Abner assassinated in order to completely disrupt anything but Ish-bosheth, who is Saul's son, laying claim to the throne, but the way David reacts to this loss, is that, it's a loss, it wasn’t an assassination, it wasn’t a hit. It's a loss for the people and they see this in David and it's drawing them to David. And like in yesterday's reading we read of a man Recab and his brother Baanah who assassinated Ish-bosheth and brought Ish-bosheth’s head to David, thinking that they might be elevated in David's kingdom by getting rid of his enemy, the only one standing in the way of the throne. But again, David's character about not raising your hand against the anointed of God, let like allowing God to work these things out. The people, once again, see like, David didn't have anything to do with the assassination of Abner or Ish-bosheth, he didn't have anything to do with it. And the people that were involved in it were punished so Recab and Baanah were punished by death for killing Ish-bosheth, which brings the people together. A covenant is made. David becomes king, he conquers Jebuse the Jebusites the city of Jerusalem makes it the city of David and then in today's reading, God comes before David making a covenant with him and David's response again is that of utter humility, like who am I, who is my family. How did I get here, what is going on, why would the most high God look down upon me to make this happen? Then we see David dancing before the ark of the covenant coming back into Jerusalem. And one of David's wives Saul's daughter, Michael she despises, and David says that he'll act like a fool for God and any day. Basically, all make a fool of myself to dance before the Lord. This is just in sharp contrast to what we saw in Saul, who was hiding in the baggage at his coronation and always try to puff himself up, always afraid of his imaging, was always trying to get the respect of the people by being sort of the tough guy. Where is David is trying to be as humble as possible. And that humility is what is drawing the hearts of the people to clearly make him their leader. And we're just getting started in the story of David, but that is kind of the transition between the house of Saul and then David fully becoming the king of Israel, which he is. And we will watch that unfold in the coming days.
Prayer:
And so, Father, we thank You for Your word. Thank You for the kindness of Your word. The gift of Your word that allows us to look back at ancient stories, but to find those stories to be very, very relevant to humanity in the way that human beings think and do things. And we see character shining through right now in the life of King David and may we learn much because we all need to be people of integrity, people of character. So, come Holy Spirit into this we pray in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:
Hey DAB family, it’s Sparky. I want to take a minute and do a little preaching. Today, Brian read Psalm 116. And I told Beloved I had to go play and listen to it with her today because it’s my favorite Psalm. And a lot of you know what I’ve gone through in life, the drugs, the divorces and I told her, a lot of people, it’s whether you like em or not, I’ve got tattoos, a lot of tattoos and long hair, I just don’t fit the part. And that Psalm just rings home and I told her, I said, that is a Psalm I would tattoo on myself. And ironically, after I had listened, Vicky from Arizona and David from Tennessee had called. Vicky had lost her husband and David had a, you’re battling blindness. And I just want to read this real quick. I love the Lord for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned to me, I will call on Him as long as I live. So, let’s just go ahead and pray for these two beautiful people. Father God, I just ask that You help Vicky and David both. Help Vicky to know that her husband is with You, he’s right there beside King David, who called on the Lord for as long as he lived. And I ask that You be with this man from Tennessee, and You heal his eyes. You help him to see immediately and that all doctoral opinion would be in his favor. Your Son’s Holy name we pray. Amen. I love you guys, ya’ll have an awesome day.
Hi DAB family. This is the Disciple that He Loves in Ohio. Family, I really need your prayers for just my mental health and anger and frustration. I called about things being bad between my daughter and my husband. Well, my husband’s dad died like three days ago. And I just feel like he’s, I know this is a hard time but I just feel like he’s being so difficult to be around and being really demanding of me doing things. And I’m sick right now, I just have a bad cold and a headache. And I’m in the middle of a pregnancy which I feel like just makes my emotions so out of whack. And I’ve been losing it with my kids today. I just feeling this anger that I haven’t felt in a really long time. And I just want to be a Godly example for my family. And I just feel totally at the end of my rope with what I can cope with. And I know that that’s where God can meet me and I know that He can be there for me. But I got to just keep laying myself down and getting out of my own way. So, if you could just, please pray for that, that I could be kind and loving and compassionate to my family. We’re getting ready to leave for like a 12-day vacation which should be great but with the way my husband’s been, I just feel like all that time together is gonna be really difficult. So, if you could just, please pray that I could be a Godly example and just totally depend on Christ and find the love that I’m not feeling right now for my family. Thank you so much. Love to you all.
Hi, it’s Donna from California. I may actually have to call this in a few times because I’m not sure how it’s actually gonna come out. But Pastor Brian Hardin, thank you. I listened to the May 20th New Testament reading and your commentary several times now and I know your, thousands of people are listening but that felt like it was meant for me personally. It spoke to me personally. It was like God was speaking to my heart. And what has died in you, you said, could what has died in you live again, even though it has died, you said. And finally, our faith doesn’t work without resurrection in it. I, thank you so much. Those were the words I have needed to hear with the things that I have been struggling with lately, that I’ve called in about. Yes, I do believe and yes, I can love again. Yes, it died within me but it will live again. Jesus was resurrected. I, I’m just in awe, thank you, thank you so much. Words just can’t express what’s in my heart. I thank you so much.
Hi, DAB family. My name is Mindy and I’m calling for Hannah. Hannah, sweet Hannah, there are so many people praying for you, hundreds, probably thousands of people praying for you every day. And, as I was praying for you today, I was just praying for the Holy Spirit to show me how to pray for you and the next song that came on was “No longer a slave” and He showed me that was how to pray for you. That you are not a slave to fear, that you are a child of God. And, He convicted me that I was afraid to call in and pray and I knew He was telling me to. And if I’m expecting you to not be afraid, then I needed to just call in and pray. And just give you that message that you don’t have to be a slave of fear cause you’re a child of God. And God is so good and He wants what’s best for you, sweet girl. He wants you to be healthy. He wants you to trust Him and even if that means just taking one bite of food and just believing that even though you’re afraid, that you don’t have to be because you can trust Him and that you are His child and He loves you so much. And He’s the best Father, even though your father seems pretty amazing, He’s even better and He wants what’s best for you. And so, to all the people here in the DAB family and, there’s so many more, like me, that are afraid to call in but are at home praying for you and your family and lifting you up to the Lord. And we pray right now that He hears our prayers and answers them and heals you completely, sweet girl. We love you.
Hi, Daily Audio Bible community. Hi, I’m new at this but just wanted to ask for your prayers. I am going through, what seems to be a miscarriage after 5 weeks of pregnancy. This is the second one in four months. My husband and I, are trying to start a family and we’re just praying and trusting that God will allow us to have this dream. It’s not been an easy journey, so far. But I know that God has a plan and God see’s everything and God knows everything. And I just wanted to call on this family to just pray for us and be with us in this time as we go through this. Thank you.

Rando Legacy 1.6
Tumblr media
You know I have to say - I had a VERY popular legacy back in the real heyday of Sims 2 and modded and owned several popular Sims communities on Live Journal. My legacy was popular enough that EA contacted me and a couple others and gave us Sims 3 for free if we would promote the game in our communities, which I happily did. I had Sim Secrets made about me, people asking for my Sims, tons of WCIF questions, the whole shebang.
And I felt so much pressure to post every week, to make sure my screenshots looked perfect, to have the best decorated houses, etc. etc. and I have to say this is a breath of fresh air. Ain't NOBODY reading this Simblr and honestly that's just fine with me. I mean if they do, great, but I like just sort of shittily editing my pictures and just writing whatever random stuff pops into my head about the pics rather than trying to create this whole hilarious narrative. I'm having a blast. :) Anyway, onward to the shittily edited pics!
Tumblr media
So you may remember the horrid nanny that was mean to Brandi and made her cry? Well, now Callum is a teen and so I let Brandi fire her Hagatha ass.
Tumblr media
Brandi: Harry Potter and the AUDACITY of this bitch. Excuse me, Hagatha, me firing you does not mean you don't have to work any more and you can just hang and watch TV. It means...GET OUT.
Tumblr media
Dylan has a new friend, Tessa! They became besties like, instantly.
Tumblr media
Abner: I'm sorry you can't properly enjoy your science hobby, Brandi but we are WAY too poor to afford a telescope right now.
Tumblr media
There's a lot to unpack here. Also, I'd like to know what gave Brandi the Nature liking point. Is it being outside in her underwear? Is it being threatened by a stray dog? We shall never know.
Tumblr media
Eureka!
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD a fire! I have the more dangerous fire mod and let's just say I was realllly happy there was nothing flammable by this tree.
Tumblr media
That's right, Abner. In a world full of treadmill runners, be a cyclist.
Tumblr media
Callum brings home a friend from school and they seem really into each other, it's super cute.
Tumblr media
Walkby Karen: Oh my God, is that a BLACK? In MY neighborhood? Looks for phone to dial 911
Tumblr media
...not appropriate mealtime conversation, Callum.
Tumblr media
Brandi: Aww, Callum has a girlfriend, isn't that sweet? It's a little awkward sitting here watching TV with them but not too bad. I'm just going to pretend I don't notice how close his hand is to her crotch.
Tumblr media
Brandi: Aight, I'mma head out.
Tumblr media
I mean, I personally wouldn't this coming towards me for a first kiss, but she doesn't seem to mind (I can't remember her damn name).
Tumblr media
Well, well, well. Look who's birthday it is! Dylan, aka THE HEIR.
Tumblr media
Behold, what shall his genetics bring us??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, okay. He is still weird looking but he does mostly have Abner's nose, if not quite so big, so I'm happy enough, I guess.
Tumblr media
I had Tessa age up with Dylan and ooooh, girl! Looking mighty fine! Might you be a potential love interest for Dylan?
Tumblr media
...okay, that's gonna be a no. Dylan is already alien looking enough without adding this into the mix.
Tumblr media
I look over after deciding that Tessa is a very unsuitable choice and see Callum's girlfriend slapping the shit out him?? For no reason?? These two are in LOVE and I cannot imagine what precipitated this. Callum is so sweet!
Tumblr media
Well, I mean they WERE in love. But shockingly, Callum doesn't take kindly to being slapped around at his brother's birthday party!
Tumblr media
So he broke up with her right then and there. GOOD FOR YOU, Callum. Don't you take any guff from her, even if she IS super pretty.
Tumblr media
Callum's EX-girlfriend:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Callum: I don't need no girlfriend! I'm a single successful guy! (And if you're old, and you know what the second half of that quote is from, then MAYBE you'll know what my old legacy was!)
Until next time!
