Acer macrophyllum (big leaf maple)

Big leaf maple is native to the west coast of North America and, true to it's name, it has the largest leaves of any maple tree, sometimes 60cm (two feet) across. The flowers are hermaphroditic (bisexual) bearing both male and female flower parts on each raceme. The female flower emerges first (see photo one) and the male stamens come later. This avoids self-pollination.

Big leaf maples are big trees. Some are a hundred feet tall (30m) with an equally wide canopy and they can live to be 150 years old. We planted a baby sapling in our back yard a few years ago but it won't start producing its typically maple 'whirligig' seeds until it's about ten years old.

was in my feelings after the whole mitch and auston have matching heart doodles on their gloves at 4 nations where they're playing against each other for the first time in their adult lives, so i had to do something about it... here are some beaded brooches to honor their little routine they've had and kept up with since rookie year. i was wanting to make some brooches that could be connected with chain, and then i stumbled on this chain made of little heart links and had to get it for this. they can be displayed separately or together and i wanted to use a jersey as display and scale 🫶

Not a Leafs fan but forever a Mitch Marner sympathizer and defender, and so I had to say something. We are barely into the preseason, and I'm already seeing the complaints and whining about him. They didn't even have anything of substance to complain about, the posts weren't even about his playing. One post was a screencap of him mid-sentance with the coach, and the MAIN complaint about it was "He looks too zesty". Zesty??? That's your problem here? You couldn't find anything else to nitpick, or anything constructive to point out, so you made a post to complain he looks too "zesty" when he talks? ffs. You are a grown man. Keep it together.

people who think toronto media and the pressure cooker in that atmosphere have nothing to do with the performance of players are so ridiculous. you have guys on other teams actively admitting to not wanting to be there because of it and actively admitting it would take a toll on them if they had to do it and that they can't possibly comprehend what it's like with that much attention and pressure and media.
