fool: what’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

I’d say that’s a tie between two incidents, though both involved me going to meet a girl, for the first time, whom I’d been chatting with online (for some months on some online RP sites; in both cases we’d exchanged pics and also chatted via AIM).First time, it was my 2nd/final year at my 2nd college (so 97/98), I talked a friend into driving me to Tennessee to meet her.  The girl said she could get her roommate to entertain my friend while we did our thing.   So we drove from Louisburg, NC to Knoxville, TN, crossing over part of the Appalachian Mountains… in a car with a faulty transmission.  And when we got there, the girl I’d gone to meet took one look at me and apparently decided she didn’t want much to do with me.  She and her friend took us out for dinner, then my friend & I had to find a motel room.  When we got back to Louisburg, the girl and I chatted a bit more, but soon she dropped out of sight.  The most I got from her re: her sudden change of mind was that I was “a lot bigger than my picture indicated.”  I did not mention how she was about a foot shorter than her picture had indicated.  Her roommate, however, did think my friend was cute, though I don’t know if they ever chatted much. Second time was a year later, my first year at my 3rd college (98/99; pretty sure it was Spring 1999).  This time I didn’t involve a friend, I traveled by myself via Greyhound Bus, down to Vidalia, GA.  As before, our pre-meeting chats seemed to go very well, but when we actually met in person, it fell apart; she barely spoke to me, though she did let me stay in her room both nights I was there.  When I returned to my college, she barely said anything to me in our games or chat, and soon dropped off of the RP sites.  She did not give an explanation for her sudden change.Third time was the charm: the third time I met someone I’d been chatting with online (Sep 2000, 3rd/final year at my 3rd college), she came up to me (from Sulphur, LA), and we had a great time.  Some months later I went down to visit her, got there a few days near the end of Dec and was there with her for Jan 1st 2001.  Things were a bit rocky then, and I later learned the rockiness was caused by her testing me to see how I’d “take charge” in certain situations (this is when I learned she was a Gorean).  We never visited each other again, but chatted off and on, friendly terms.  I lost all contact with her about four years later, shortly before Hurricane Katrina roared through.

temperance: do you tend to focus on the past, present, or future?

I like to think about the future, but I dwell on the past more than I should.

moon: do you have any recurrent dreams?

Not really. I rarely remember my dreams.  I have been daydreaming a lot about job interviews and new jobs and moving back into my own place for the past eight months or so.

world: what do you hope to accomplish before you die?

To help others achieve their goals which will help make the world a better place, be it through working in a library where I can help students find information for their projects, introducing others to roleplaying games that let them stretch their creativity and imagination, or being a positive role-model for my brother, sister, and nephew.

as cool as the Defiant is... it's a bitch to maintain, and it's not too well suited for anything other than battle

Voyager is infinitely upgradeable, more comfortable, can take an unlikely amount of damage, and can do pretty much any mission. It may look kind of odd, but that ship was capable of same insaaane stuff. 

Gotta go with Voyager.

my dreams have all over the infinite spectrum.

there were three guys handing out neo nazi leaflets on my block. and it sent me into a rage. i tried to scare off. told them they could get hurt. nobody would listen to them.

then i noticed that some of my newer & younger neighbors were listening to them. inviting them in briefly. laughing with these racist dildos.

then they crossed over to Slocum and Germantown. big mistake.

through another set of eyes. through digital haze and amber, i could see a gathering of irate people repeatedly dropping a Mini Cooper on the youngest turd.

 the second was arrested. ad the third cried the the youngest was a “martyr”.
