WIP Title Ask Meme
Prompt: Make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
I'm going to tag far fewer people than the list would dictate because, well, I have too many WIPs!
Tagged by @gordopickett, thank you <3
Tagging @brynnmclean, @madamairlock, @wanderleave, @callioope, @caitylove, @lalalauraroslin, @littlelindentree, @narilwrites, @melyzard, @thevulcanbobdylan, @spectral-musette, @miabicicletta, and anyone else who wants to play!
I've never done an ask meme before and I am bad at asks, but I want to chat with people about stuff!
Also, in the interests of keeping this manageable, I'm only posting titles of WIPs I've touched in the last five years not including the ones I've posted to my Unfinished Tales series on AO3 😅
Also, also, I have separate WIP folders for each fandom so I'm going to separate them here as well.

BSG fans, maybe unpopular opinion here, but I hate the ship name “space parents.” Like, I feel like it puts Adama and Roslin in this box where they are relegated to be the mom and dad characters, protectors and wholesome only, whereas my thoughts about them are rarely wholesome. Like, they are protectors and do parent some, but they are so much more than that. They are passionate and driven and complex. They fight, they flirt, they frak. I know I’m probably being too literal and it definitely is not important, but something in my autistic brain just chafes at “space parents” like I’m being rubbed with sandpaper. (Tho maybe I’m also misunderstanding it and it’s Zaddy and Milf that we’re referring to? 😂 i still don’t like it, even if that’s the case.) Is it just me?

I just want to see them happily retiring together, with him as a Battlestar Commander turned househusband, and her as the Secretary of Education, a working wife. Then, years later, a party asks her to run for presidency, and she gets elected, and they become the unstoppable power couple they are.
(Also not me, trying to write a fanfic where they first meet at the Galactica decommissioning ceremony and then fall in love. Adar regrets losing her, especially to an aging soldier he deems unworthy and socially inferior.
He even insults them, saying she's playing a matador, messing around with a Tauron bull, and trying to SA her. But she punches him in the face (because Bill taught her boxing skill), and it's all caught on camera. Suddenly, she's the talk of the town, praised for defending herself against assault and becomes the new face of #metoo.
And Tauron people all become fans of her because she chose to defend her Tauron partner and chose him over the frakking President of the Twelve Colonies himself. And baby Kyliegh Curran as Lenore Usher, may or may not be their granddaughter from Lee and Dee, who's so close to and loved by her grandparents <3
But since English isn't my first language and I'm so busy with work and adulthood, I don't even know if I could find time to continue drafting this shite. I just love Roslin x Adama in AUs without the attack soooo sooo bad.)

Posted this painting before, but...

...I got it signed.
Mary Mcdonnell complimented my painting. And while she was probably just being polite, it was still neat.
You may now go about your evening.

Soooo... I've been watching Battlestar Galactica (2003) for a while and yesterday finally finished it. I love this fandom and want to be more involved so I'm wanting to find others in the fandom to connect over this show with. I'm not sure how alive the fandom still is since the show is more than 15 years old lol but I'd love to find some Battlestar Galactica friends.
Also, for if anyone in this fandom does end up seeing this, I let my thoughts run wild towards the beginning of Season 4/end of Season 3 as I had really thought Starbuck was a Cylon. So I started a fanfic AU where she is and it's already at 35k words. I'm having such a fun time writing it as Starbuck is my favorite character and writing her is so painful but fun, especially with her circumstances in this fic and dynamics she has with other characters, like Lee.
Also I ship Starpollo, so if there are any other Starpollo shippers out there please show yourselves to me, I'd love to talk about the pair and cry over them, etc. lol. I'd also love to rp them if anyone would be interested in that, I love rping ships I really love and I think this pair would be so interesting and fun to rp.

Full version of Chapter 1 of My Roslin/Adama Story
I have finished the first chapter of my Roslin/Adama story. i wanted to post to see how much interest there was.
Chapter 1
AN: So, I was recently re-minded of my love of Battlestar Galactica especially Laura/Bill and ever since I haven’t been able to stop thinking of this story. My plan is for it to stay close, excluding the changes necessary due to Laura/Bil’s history, their daughter’s presence, and things that were hinted at that I want to explore, to canon for early ‘seasons’, but as the story progresses things will get further from cannon until the New Caprica Arch which is when most of the changes will be taking place, which will cause a ripple effect on the rest of the story.
(LINE BREAK)
15 years 11 months before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies
Desperately hoping that he isn’t too late William ‘Bill’ Adama is running though the Caprica Fleet hospital. With how fast he is moving and the look that is on his face people move out of his way without him needing to say anything, something which Bill doesn’t even realise as he is so focused on his objective. Finally getting to the room he was desperately searching for Bill doesn’t even take a second to pause before he opens the door and hurries in the second he does he realises that his fear is confirmed, he was too late, and he hates himself for that.
“I’m sorry,” Bill says as he walks towards the bed where his wife, Laura Roslin, is sitting holding a tiny baby wrapped in a pink blanket. While she is clearly exhausted to Bill, she looks incredibly beautiful. “I tried, I…” Bill starts to say, having no idea how to make up for missing what he has missed, staying a few steps back as he doesn’t know how Laura is going to react as he wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t forgive him.
“Bill,” Laura says, her voice full of pain, and sounding almost defeated, making it clear with one simple word that she doesn’t want to hear his excuses, that it’s not the time to hear them. “Come meet your daughter,” Laura says to him, and Bill walks the few steps to the bed.
“Daughter?” Bill asks, as like with their sons they didn’t find out what they were having in advance, as he walks towards Laura, who nods and once he is close enough, he gently takes the tiny baby from her. “Hi sweetheart,” Bill says, his voice full of amazement and as he looks at his daughter, he feels overwhelming love, overwhelming protectiveness. “She’s so small,” Bill says, looking down at her, a look of amazement on his face, memorising her blue eyes, the small bit of red hair she has, her noise exactly like her mother, her complexion like his. “The boys were never this small,” Bill notes thinking of their older children Lee and Zak who are ten and eight respectively.
“No, they weren’t,” Laura confirms, being able to picture with perfect clarity what each of her boys, who are currently with her sister, looked like when they were born. “We almost lost her,” Laura reveals, knowing that even though he wasn’t there Bill deserves to know, he needs to know.
“What?” Bill says, looking away from his daughter to look at Laura, his voice full of horror as he can’t imagine never getting to meet his incredible baby girl.
“There were complications, she wasn’t breathing,” Laura reveals, it being painful for her to explain what happened. “Doctor Cottle worked on her and got her breathing, but it took time,” Laura explains, remembering the terror she felt when she was all alone and though she was going to lose her daughter; how ever second felt like it lasted a torturous lifetime.
“Is she okay now?” Bill says, looking back as the face of his baby girl, who seems okay to him, but he needs to be sure.
“She was on oxygen for a few hours, and she may be more vulnerable to raspatory illnesses as she gets older, but yes Doctor Cottle says she is going to be okay,” Laura assures him, and as soon as she sees that Laura can see the relief pass over him, but there is also a hint of worry which isn’t surprising.
“Good, good,” Bill says, sounding glad. “She’s a strong, just like you,” Bill says, and Laura, despite all the conflicting emotions she has felt over the last day, smiles slightly at Bill’s compliment. “She needs a name,” Bill realises, looking at Laura, wondering if she has though about that as he has a few ideas.
“I was thinking we name her after our mothers,” Laura reveals, and Bill smiles as he was thinking the same thing. “EJ, Evelyn Judith Adama,” Laura suggests. “What do you think?” Laura asks, as she was waiting for Bill to make it official but that’s what she has been calling their little girl, and it feels right to her.
“I think it’s perfect,” Bill admits. “Hi EJ, I love you so much, and you’ve got two brothers who love you too and can’t wait to meet you, and the most amazing mom,” Bill says as he walks back over to the bed where Laura is and sits down next to her, still holding EJ, being careful that he doesn’t hurt either of his girls. “I love you, Laura,” Bill says to his wife, and as he does, he sees a look of pain pass over Laura’s face.
“And I love you, Bill, so much,” Laura says tears coming to her eyes. “But I can’t keep doing this. I can’t keep waiting for you to come home. I can’t keep telling our boys that you’re sorry you’re not around, that you do care, that you’ll be home when you can,” Laura admits, needing to say this now as when she was alone and struggling to give birth to EJ she had a moment of clarity, and she knows that Zak and Lee are constantly hurt by their father not being around, and she doesn’t want them to keep experiencing that pain, she doesn’t want EJ to ever experience it. “You’re my best friend, and we were partners once, but this isn’t working anymore,” Laura admits, knowing that since Bill rejoined the fleet they have been trying to make it work, and Laura would never ask him to give it up because she knows what it means to him, but it just hasn’t been working, in fact it has only been getting harder.
“I know,” Bill admits, as while it is painful for him to admit it, he knows that’s true, and he knows that all he has been doing is letting his family down, hurting them. “Where does this leave us?” Bill asks, looking at Laura, as he has no idea.
“I don’t know,” Laura admits, as she lays her head on Bill’s shoulder and the two of them drift into silence as they look down at their newborn daughter, neither knowing where they go from here, but both knowing that no matter what happens between them what they want is what’s best for their kids, who matter most to them.
15 years eleven months later
“Please Mom, please,” EJ Adama, who has grown to look more like her mother, with her long red hair tied back into a high ponytail, but with her father’s eyes, skin tone and temperament, begs as she walks with her mother through the Caprica City River market, the two of them doing some shopping for dinner. “Please let me come,” EJ begs.
“EJ it’s a work trip, it’s not for fun,” Laura tells her daughter, knowing that her upcoming trip to the Battlestar Galactica could be described as lot of things, but she is sure that fun isn’t on the list.
“Lee’s going to be there,” EJ argues.
“Your brother is going to be there because he is a part of the ceremony, he’s going to be there for work,” Laura tells her daughter, knowing that in stark contrast to his sister Lee isn’t happy about being ordered to the Galactica, and hearing that EJ smirks as that is exactly what she was hoping her mother was going to say.
“That’s exactly my point,” EJ admits. “Mom this decommissioning is just as much about Dad, his career and retirement, as it is about the Galactica. I want to be there for that, to support him, please let me come,” EJ says, looking at her mother with eyes that are identical to her father, eyes that all of her children inherited, and that Laura has loved for most of her life. “Please Mom,” EJ begs, after raising three kids, mostly alone, Laura has gotten good at saying no to begging, but there is something about EJ’s voice that gets through to Laura.
“Okay,” Laura says, feeling concerned that it might be a mistake, but it is clearly incredibly important to EJ, and she knows it would mean a lot to Bill.
“Okay?” EJ asks amazed, as she planned a lot more arguments in case her mother didn’t agree so easily, as honestly, she wasn’t expecting it to be so easy to get her mother to agree to let her miss school and go to the Galactica.
“Okay, but you should know that your dad’s going to be busy, you might not be able to spend as much time with him as you’d like,” Laura tells her daughter, not wanting her to get her hopes up about how much she is going to get to spend with her dad.
“I know, I still want to go, want to be there for him,” EJ admits, as it is something that is very important to her, and because of that she thought about it a lot and realised her dad might be busy.
“Then okay, you can come,” Laura says, putting her arm around her daughter, who is about the same height as her. “I have an appointment tomorrow morning, and a meeting, so I’ll pick you up from school at lunchtime,” Laura tells her daughter, keeping her voice even as she mentions her appointment as she doesn’t want her to worry even though the doctor has hinted that it’s not good news. “Make sure you get your bag ready tonight,” Laura tells her, as she knows that with how packed her schedule is they aren’t going to have much time tomorrow.
“I will,” EJ says excited. “Thank you, thank you,” EJ says amazed, hugging her mother and kissing her check, and as she sees how happy EJ is Laura knows she made the right choice, despite her own reservations, she just hopes it’s not a decision she grows to regret. “So, what are we going to do for dinner?” EJ asks her mother as they break apart, but Laura keeps one arm around her daughter.
“That’s a good question,” Laura admits as she looks around. “What do you feel like?” Laura asks, as she is not fussed.
“Chicken noodles stir fry?” EJ suggests, and Laura hides her amusement as all three of her kids, and Bill, all love that particular dish.
“Sounds good,” Laura responds, and the two of them continue to walk through the market, getting what they need.
(LIne break)
A little while after EJ made the suggestion for dinner EJ and Laura are arriving back home, both of them carrying shopping bags as they brought more than just what they need for dinner.
“I’m going to call Lee, tell him I’ll see him tomorrow,” EJ says to her mother as they walk into the main living area, feeling excited about seeing her bother and not just because she hasn’t seen him in a little while but because there is something she wants to talk to him about in person, something she observed a few days ago which makes her concerned about their mother.
“First, help put the shopping away,” Laura tells her daughter, not at all surprised that she wants to call her brother.
And over the next few minutes Laura and EJ put the shopping away and once they do that EJ hurries off to call her brother while Laura gets started on dinner.
 As she is washing up, Laura reaches into her pocket, and pulls out a pair of dog tags; dog tags that she has kept with her every day for two years, dog tags with the name with the name Zachary Adam on them, and just like she does several times a day Laura stares at the name of her son, the piece of him she keeps with her every day; and for a few seconds allows herself to feel the heartbreak of his loss, heartbreak that she has to do her best to pushdown to be able to function.
(Line break)
After leaving her mother in the kitchen EJ hurries to her bedroom that is bright, full of books viper models and posters, and covered in pictures of her with her friends, brothers, mother, and even a few with her father. Getting to her bed EJ picks up her phone and spends the next five minutes getting connected to her brother; it taking so long to do so because of the security needed to do so.
“Adama,” Lee’s voice answers.
“This is Adama too,” EJ responds, smirking as she speaks.
“EJ,” Lee says, and EJ can practically hear how glad he is to hear from her. “How you doing, Kiddo?” Lee asks her.
“I’m good,” EJ says rolling her eyes at her brother calling her kiddo, but she knows that there is no use trying to get him to stop. “How are you doing?”
“Can’t complain,” Lee responds, knowing that if he were to admit how much he is dreading going to the Galactica it would just cause a fight between him and his sister, as they have very different views about spending time with their father which he doesn’t understand, which he doesn’t want.
“Good,” EJ says, sounding glad. “So, I’m going to see you tomorrow,” EJ reveals, as she lays back on her bed, excited about that as it’s been a little while since she has seen him, but also knowing that they are going to have to have a difficult, likely even painful, but necessary, conversation about what she saw a few days earlier.
“You’re coming to the decommissioning?” Lee asks shocked, as while he knew about his mother going, in a professional not personal role, he didn’t expect his sister to be joining her.
“Yep, I begged mom and she agreed. I finally get to see Galactica!” EJ says excited as she has never seen it before, but she knows how much it means to her father.
“It’s not that big of a deal,” Lee tells his sister, not wanting her to be disappointed, which he knows is always a strong possibility when it comes to their father., something which he, Zak and their mother always tried to protect EJ form.
“Maybe not for you, but to me it is,” EJ says excited.
“You’ve been to a Battlestar before,” Lee reminds his sister, trying again to get EJ to lessen her expectations.
“Yeah, the Valkyrie when I was like six, this is different,” EJ tells her brother, as she can barely remember that trip. “I can’t wait to see Dad, and the ship, his ship,” EJ says excited, as from all her dad has said she almost feels like the Galactica is part of the family, and even though she can’t see it Lee frowns, having a really bad feeling about this.
“Hey, EJ, can I talk to Mom?” Lee asks, wanting to see if his mother has the same bad feeling about EJ going to Galactica as he does.
“Sure, give me a sec,” EJ responds before getting up and heading to the kitchen, hoping that her brother doesn’t try to convince her mother not to let her go to the Galactica.
About a minute after she left her bedroom EJ walks into the kitchen where Laura is working on getting dinner ready for the two of them.
“Mom, Lee wants to talk to you,” EJ informs her mother.
“Okay, start to get the noodles ready,” Laura tells her daughter, as she wipes her hands.
“Got it,” EJ says, handing the phone to her mother.
“Hi Sweetheart,” Laura says to her son, as she walks a little away from where EJ is, suspecting that Lee is going to question her about letting EJ go to the Galactica.
“Hi Mom,” Lee responds, sounding glad to hear her voice. “So EJ’s coming to Galactica?” Lee asks, and Laura can tell that he doesn’t think it’s a good idea, something which doesn’t surprise her considering the issues Lee has with his father.
“It’s important to her,” Laura explains to her son. “I know it will make things more complicated, but she really wants to come, be there for your father,” Laura explains to her son.
“Right,” Lee says with a bitter laugh, telling Laura everything she needs to know about the chances of things between Lee and Bill getting better. “Have you talked to him lately?” Lee asks curious as he is never sure how often his parents speak.
“A few months ago,” Laura reveals. “He had a couple of days leave so he came to see EJ, we talked briefly,” Laura explains, knowing that Bill knew what she was going to be doing to his ship at that point, so he wasn’t happy with her, but didn’t let that show around EJ as that is something they agreed to when they got divorced that no matter what was going on between them they would do their best to keep it away form their kids.
“Right,” Lee says, clearly not sure how to feel about that.
“Lee, your father….” Laura starts to say, trying to start another attempt at the conversation she has had, or tried to have, with her son more than once over the last two years.
“Mom, I’ve got to go,” Lee says, cutting her off and making it clear that he still doesn’t want to talk about his father. “I’ll see you tomorrow, love you,” Lee says to her, speaking quickly so he can get off the phone before his mother tries again to talk about his father.
“Love you too, see you tomorrow,” Laura says before hanging up. After she hangs up the phone Laura sighs, wondering how things are going to go tomorrow, and then heads over to where EJ is, having clearly listened to the conversation that was going on.
“Lee still won’t talk about Dad?” EJ asks, having heard enough of the conversation to realise that, and knowing that Lee has refused to talk to their dad since Zak’s death.
“No, he won’t,” Laura says, knowing that decision hurts Bill and Lee even if her son won’t admit that, as she puts the phone down on the bench.
“So, tomorrow is going to be interesting then,” EJ realises, though she is still looking forward to it, and she has a glimmer of hope that Lee actually seeing their father will cause things to get better between them.
“Really is,” Laura confirms, not looking forward to it as much as her daughter clearly is, and the two of them proceed to make dinner together.

Tell me something about your WIP Through All That Masquerade, please friend!
Hello friend <3 <3 <3 Thank you for the ask!
This is my far too ambitious BSG canon divergence epic for which one lonely chapter is posted to AO3, as you know :) I'm not sure what I could say that you wouldn't already know, but it has been what feels like forever since I worked on it, even though in actuality it's probably been less than a year.
I don't think I ever posted this VERY rough snippet though, so maybe this will suffice?
~~~
“Have you two agreed on a book yet?” Bill called to his daughters from the couch across the room. They’d been in front of the bookshelf behind the table for the twenty minutes since they’d arrived. Bill hadn’t had time before they’d showed up to do more than change back into his duty blues. Laura’s lavender suit still hung over the arm of the chair by the closet, her discarded shoes still sat between the other chair and his rack. It felt more like home with her clothes lying around.
They finally agreed on something, an old favorite from when they were very small called Ghostship Masquerade, and they settled in.
J.J. sprawled out under his left arm half dozing against his shoulder as her mother often did. Edie leaned against his right arm with her legs curled under her, helping to brace the book between them and turning the pages as he read aloud.
Later, when Edie didn’t turn the page, he looked down to find her asleep against his right shoulder.
The phone by the hatch buzzed and Lt. Gaeta’s voice followed. “CIC to commanding officer.”
At the first crackle of the speaker, J.J. was already sitting up as Bill lifted his arm from around her and Edie took the book from him, giving him room to stand. He went to the phone and picked up the receiver.
“Go ahead,”
“I'm sorry to disturb you, sir, but we have a Priority One alert message from Fleet Headquarters. It was transmitted in the clear.”
“In the clear? What does it say?” He heard Edie ask J.J. in hushed tones what that meant, and her sister’s equally subdued reply.
"’Attention all Colonial units. Cylon attack underway. This is no drill.’"
His eyes fixed on Laura’s Aghdashloo painting of Daybreak Over Caprica City that hung above the sideboard as he absorbed the message. Absurdly, he wondered if this would be the last view of open sky his family might ever see.
“I’ll be right there.” He hung up the receiver and buttoned up his jacket, his mind coming to grips with this new reality. There were too many civilians aboard, and they had no munitions save the bare minimum to equip their Viper squadrons. They could evacuate the civilians aboard the Vigilance, but where could they go? And they would be sitting ducks without the protection of Galactica and the rest of the Battlestar Group under his command.
Bill turned to face his daughters huddled together on the couch, Edie clutching the book to her chest while J.J. clutched her. They had clearly sensed the shift in his demeanor. As a husband and father, his first priority was to protect his family. As a soldier and an admiral, his duty was to defend the people of the Twelve Colonies and lead his crew in that effort.
Listen to me. I WILL NEVER BE OVER BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. EVER. I was just dwaddling along peacefully in my little corner of happiness, and then I was just assaulted by feelings and then I practically forced my roommate into watching the show with me.
This show is a frakking gods-damned masterpiece and I will be 90+ years old still sobbing in a corner over two people who loved each other too late. It's a science fiction love story, okay?
I mean, look at them! LOOK. LoOk.
