I grew up in #ElSalvador and since I was born I spoke both English and Spanish. I had the privilege of going to the American School all my life. 🇺🇸 I am very blessed. “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.” 

This is a hard truth, especially when we here at TMLC are trying to figure out how to improve an experience that isn’t necessarily negative because of us. Certain times, we are the solution to an inconvenience that can lead to very frustrated customers  - heightened security restrictions at events that prohibit entrance with certain items, such as purses and backpacks. 

So far, our plan as been to empathize, explain we’re a small business brought in by the event to give attendees a storage option, and offer to relay any feedback to the event or suggest the attendee email the organizers directly. This does work most of the time, and many renters are thankful we’re onsite. But, when we can’t get through to the customer this way and their frustration doesn’t subside, it’s something I find very hard to shake off.

I am struggling with how to best get through to these unhappy customers during our short windows of opportunity - the minute or so it takes for them to rent, then the few seconds we have to connect when they drop their key back. 

Chatting about this with colleagues, staff, friends, and even clients, we often come to the conclusion that there are people you just can’t win over. But that doesn’t really satisfy me because I just hate the feeling that someone is out there with negative feelings toward the company! 

Fellow small biz owners, entrepreneurs, or customer service specialists - do you have any advice? How can we turn those frowns upside down during our limited face time with the customer?
