Happy New Year! first art piece of the year. this took me a while. and some tracing (over pictures of arcade cabinets and Skee Ball machines)

everybody's various activities:

- Susie's playing a Chica related game (foreshadowing)

- Fritz and David are debating what to get from the Prize Corner (Fritz, as usual, wants something Foxy related, while David wants to get some candy and various other trinkets)

- Gabi and Mimi are playing Skee Ball the Wrong way (well...more accurately, Gabi is playing Skee Ball the wrong way, and Mimi's trying to get her to Stop doing that)

yeah....there are a Lot of relationships in Blurred Lenses that make me Very Normal (lying), and David & Fritz are one of them.

like. David Died Looking For Fritz. they got killed by someone they used to trust, the dad of one of their closest friends.

and they had to spend their final moments knowing that he was the same man that killed their brother.

i could go on for Hours about David and William and All Their Bullshit, but. please tell me if you'd like to hear about it. :)

time for. Rambling.

so Fritz and David. the half/step brothers ever.

a bit of a history lesson with these two (small warning for homophobia and transphobia later on, as well as the use of queer and dyke as slurs. and some fucking ableism. because David's dad's a Fucking Asshole. and child abuse):

Fritz's father is Fritz Smith Sr., the son of Irish immigrants from the early 1900s. when he was around 3-4, their mom cheated on their dad with David's dad (Trevor Andrews) and got pregnant with David.

the pair get divorced, and while his mom got primary custody of him, he still stays with his bio dad every now and then. but...they do wish it was more permanent.

Because Trevor's An Abusive Dick

he wasn't any better to David. y'know, his own biological child.

so...Fritz got really into Foxy when Freddy's opened in 1978. and, as a coping mechanism, uh...kinda started shipping Foxy with his bio dad? as well as having Foxy as a comfort character in general (listen. cringe teenagers have always existed. Is This The Healthiest Coping Mechanism? No, But It's The Best They Have Right Now).

so...David is friends with Charlie, Sammy, and Michael. Trevor does not like Freddy's/Fredbear's (where the besties hang out) because, as he words it, "the restaurant(s)'s owned by a couple of queers." i mean. he's not wrong, technically, but he's being a bitch about it. so fuck him.

David, of course, gives zero fucks and goes anyway.

when Michael inevitably comes out as trans...as you can imagine, Trevor uses some Interesting language about it.

some other...Highlights (/very neg) of things he's said:

basically refers to practically everybody David is friends with/close to as "queers." keep in mind, they were all 9-10 years old.

he called Mike a dyke once. very derogatorily might i add.

so y'know the r slur? yeah...he does the same thing. it's Especially bad with Charlie (hyperverbal autistic and hardly masks), Sammy (mostly nonverbal autistic with horrific anxiety and literally Cannot mask), and Cassidy (semiverbal autistic and doesn't really Need to mask yet).

David and Fritz? get both kinds of treatment.

why do you think David's got anger issues?

that's why David would occasionally stay with the Aftons or Emilys, depending on the day. they stopped really staying with the Aftons after William started drinking more (April 1980). they already had to deal with that enough at home.

Fritz always tried to make plans to either run away from town, or to get in their bio dad's full custody. but he didn't want to leave without David, or at least making sure David was okay.

when Fritz..."went missing," David got fed up of the fact that neither of their parents seemed to be concerned with finding him. the last thing their mom heard them say before they broke out of their bedroom and ran off into the night was "IF NEITHER OF YOU CARE ENOUGH TO GO FIND 'IM, THEN I'LL FUCKIN' FIND HIM MYSELF!"

just...they <3 they loved each other so much....the beloveds...

They both get some of my pie. Im love them. No pie for trevor. Homing missiles for trevor.

now i'm gonna ramble about Skyler because! she's a very interesting character!

she is the epitome of "Too Little, Too Late."

so, a brief summary of this gal's history and how we reached that point:

she and Fritz's dad (Fritz Sr.) were a pair of drunk college students. they slept together, she got pregnant, Fritz was born.

her family, being Christian and NOT liking what she just did, decided to push her into marrying the guy. this was not great for Anyone involved.

she did love Jr, though.

meets a guy at her job at the time. this is Trevor. they have a small fling, and they also sleep together. while they're both drunk.

she gets pregnant. Sr. knows this kid for sure ain't his. they divorce and she gets custody of Jr due to Sr having his own drinking issues that he needed to recover from (< was trying to recover from alcoholism so he could get custody of his son. Good For Him)

David is born, Trevor's an asshole. Skyler's family...didn't exactly Disown her, but they effectively went "yeah you're on your own now. Welcome To Consequences!"

so we're all caught up, right? now, onto What All Went Down:

Trevor's alcoholism becomes enough of a problem that he can hardly hold down an actual Job, making Skyler the only one in the house who actually works (Fritz Jr. was Technically old enough to get a summer job, and they were actually planning on getting a job at Freddy's the summer they got murdered...welp)

due to this...she kinda accidentally started neglecting her kids. mostly emotionally.

David starts having Anger Issues, and usually runs off to stay with either the Emily Family (due to Charlie and Sammy), or with the Aftons (due to Michael). the Emily Family is the only example of an Actually Healthy Family that David saw.

you'll notice i didn't mention the Afton Family as an example of a Normal Healthy Family...and that's because they're not. now, William's not physically or verbally abusive in Blurred Lenses (at least not Intentionally verbally abusive), but he is emotionally abusive and manipulative as hell. he's emotionally abusive in the "Toxic Helicopter Parent" sense.

William and Trevor fucking hate each other. Trevor because of homophobia reasons (William himself is Bi and horrible at hiding it. most people just kinda ignore it. and also because Will's got a trans son (which is Mike)), and William because Trevor's An Abusive Asshole To His Family (which is pretty rich coming from Will).

Will's pretty neutral on Skyler. he can tell she's. Trying Her Best. but he doesn't think she should be raising kids (again, Rich Coming From The Guy Who Also Shouldn't Be Raising Kids)

Henry, similarly, also hates Trevor, and Trevor hates him right back for similar homophobia reasons (Henry is Pan), but also because he's got a Very Obviously Autistic Son (Sammy...though Charlie is Also autistic), and also because he thinks Henry needs to stay out of his parenting AND business (kinda hard to do when your kid's spending time over at his house, Trevor...and covered in bruises. the only reason Henry didn't call the cops on this guy was because The Cops Suck (as will be shown quite clearly in BL) and because even if he Did, they'd probably just treat it like it wasn't a problem (since people back then had...very obviously different ideas of what discipline was)). Henry however, unlike William (who kinda just wants to get Trevor's ass arrested), Henry wants that fucker dead.

fast forward. Fritz is "missing" (dead), and Skyler's freaking out. Trevor gives no fucks, though. David is having a similarly bad time like their mother.

police aren't able to do much because they're still trying to find evidence, Trevor, as previously stated, just doesn't care, and Skyler's just kinda...expected to go on with her life. she hates that.

David would end up interpreting this as Skyler also not giving a shit.

earlier in the night of David's disappearance, Skyler and Trevor got into a Major argument about Fritz, before Trevor stormed out to head to Jr's (the bar). this is why she had a headache.

Cue The Description Of MM Above. but it's important to note: the reason Skyler didn't want David to actually go out and look for Fritz themself was because. well y'know. Serial Child Killer On The Loose?? At Freddy's??

Skyler also didn't really report David missing herself, because...well, like i said earlier. David ran off often when they were upset. David was probably staying with Sammy or Mike. they'd come home eventually.

they always came home.

it wasn't until Mike came by, looking for David, that she realized that Oh Fuck, Something Bad Happened.

later that year, Skyler divorced Trevor, finally. she went to go live on her own to grieve, and try to put her life back together. she hoped, for years, that her boys would come home one day. she wanted to believe, deep down, that David wasn't a victim of the MCI, that half the town was right, and that David wasn't dead; that they were just a runaway. because if David's just a runaway...then that means they could still be alive.

her babies could still be alive.

when the other four bodies of the MCI were found, however, she lost hope. if Fritz is dead...David must be, too.

like, the whole tragedy of Skyler is that she tried but it wasn't enough. she wasn't ready to be a mother, but she was one anyway. like, she does eventually remarry, and has twins with her new husband, and she effectively "learned from her mistakes."

but she spent years, no idea what had happened to her other son, just left to wonder.

and David's body does get found eventually, and Skyler finally gets the closure she needs. heck, at that point they finally figured out William was the murderer.

she finally got to know what happened to her other child, even if it was a few decades later.

Skyler Floris Andrews makes me sad for a multitude of reasons. she was doing the best she could've in her circumstances, but she also, technically, could've done better. she...

wanted to ramble about Midnight Motorist in Blurred Lenses, because there's technically THREE versions of it:

'Later That Night' (Charlie's Murder)

David Running Away To Go Find Fritz, And A Drunk Trevor Coming Home And Being Pissed About It (when is he Not pissed that David's run off, though. you'd also think this guy would view David being gone as a Relief considering he fucking hates them, but. y'know. This Guy Sucks)

William Coming Home, Drunk And Slightly In A Bad Mood, To Michael Watching TV And Uh...Cassidy's Run Off To The Lake (Where, Keep In Mind, David's Body Is) Again... all of this post-Bite.

a quick summary for each of them:

'Later That Night'

William comes home, still a Bit drunk but mostly sobering up from the fact that he just killed Charlie (very brutally, might i add. like, smashed a bottle over her head and then stabbed her to death with the broken bottle). on her and Sammy's birthday, no less.

he changes out of his bloodstained clothes, ready to make the excuse of 'Oh, I puked because of the alcohol and it messed up my clothes, I just changed, they're in the washing machine now' only to get a phone call...from Claire. his (now) ex-wife. she'd taken the kids to The Emily Twins' party, and- oh. oh no.

when she starts speaking, she sounds incredibly shaken, hardly able to get the words out without stammering. she doesn't directly tell William what happened, but she gives him enough clues that he can confirm his theory: the reason she's calling and not Henry is because Henry's fucking inconsolable, there's police there (and there's been an ambulance called that's yet to arrive), Michael's just got done talking to the police and is just sitting down silently, looking forward into space. aside from the police, no one's been able to get a word out of him. Sammy is, similarly to Henry, inconsolable.

the final nail in the coffin comes when he, almost innocently, asks if some sort of fight happened at the party, if someone broke in and hurt somebody, and Claire cuts him off, rather harshly telling him that he needs to get down to Freddy's and take the kids home, now. her only answer to the question "Well, why can't you take them home?" is that the police haven't gotten to question her yet, and she suspects it'll take a while.

and so William, now in a different set of clothes, and an excuse for why on hand, gets back in his car and drives back to Freddy's.

it's his second time there that night, though nobody else knows that.

David Edition

nearly a week after Fritz disappeared, David was fed up with the fact that nobody seemed to be doing anything. so they were going to go out to find Fritz themself.

after a small (mostly one-sided on their end) argument with their mother, who had a headache and was watching TV to destress, they proclaim that they're leaving to go find Fritz, lock their bedroom door, and then smash open the window to break out of their bedroom. the reason they did all that? their mom made it clear that she wasn't going to let them go out the front door, and because neither of them knew when Trevor was going to come home (and didn't want to risk HIM getting pissed about all of this). along with this, David's bedroom window was locked.

Trevor comes home, drunk as hell and PISSED as hell, and starts to head right off to David's room to make that fact known. Skyler, his wife, does the "Leave him alone tonight, he's had a rough day" line (< she doesn't know Dave's nonbinary), and Trevor wholly ignores her.

after a bit of searching around the outside of the house, he discovers the footprints. cue "He'll Be Sorry When He Gets Back." (little do they know, David's not coming back)

fun fact: David's disappearance wasn't reported for like. three days, because their parents were so used to them running off for a few days. Michael was the one to report David missing after he showed up at their house, asking where they were, because he hadn't seen them for three days at that point.

Afton Family Edition

Cassidy, post-Bite, has kinda become...more sensitive to ghost stuff (thanks, David). Cassidy, who now technically has the excuse of "well, Weird Brain Stuff, you're kid's gonna be different now," starts acting out more. some of it is genuine outbursts caused by his brain injury Fucking Up His Brain, other times...his "weird behavior" is all his own. sometimes, he tries to help David get their body discovered, whether on his own, or by trying to lead someone else to it.

sometimes, this manifested itself as "Cassidy is randomly going to The Lake in the middle of the night for "No Apparent Reason"." (the reason is David's Body)

William comes home drunk one night, at least mildly pissed about one thing or another, and sees Michael on the couch. he asks where Cassidy is, Mike answers "in his room, last i checked," and then Mike gives the warning to William that Cassidy's having one of his "Bad Days." given that William's drunk, and is at least mildly pissed off when he is, Mike doesn't want him to make things worse, and potentially trigger a meltdown or outburst as a result.

William goes to check on Cassidy, realizes the door's locked, and, knowing that something like this has happened before (a few times, at least), goes outside to see if he's right. lo and behold: Cassidy's bedroom window is wide open, there's footprints leading off in the direction of the lake, and there's Fredbear's footprints nearby.

William leaves to go get Cassidy, doing so under the guise that he's worried that Cassidy might drown in the lake (which. he Is at least mildly worried about. but he's more worried about Cassidy "finding something," in this case, a body)

yeah!! David and William's whole thing is that they mirror each other, they just also Hate Each Other's Guts. it causes David a crisis (in the canon timeline of BL) and William...well, he doesn't like thinking about it (again, canon timeline).

this reminds me!! other various aus/timelines for BL!!

Burning Star: basically a "Cassidy Survives" timeline. takes Mike's place for the most part. Mike also learns about William's Crimes earlier on in the timeline, too.

Mother's Arms: a "Claire Survives And Takes The Kids In The Divorce" timeline. she has to help her two traumatized as hell sons and also learns that her ex-husband's not Only a serial killer, but also a child murderer. she takes this news about as well as you'd expect.

Father Knows Best (aka The Timeline Where Michael Has An Even Worse Time For A Decade Longer Than Necessary): a "Maya Doesn't Get Custody Of Michael/Doesn't Get Him Therapy" timeline. i'm just. gonna leave that there. I Think You Can Guess What Goes Wrong Here.

Grisly Bear: a Killer Swap timeline. Sammy gets hit by a car (accidentally and Not by William) after getting locked out, And Henry Takes It Very Well. William eventually becomes a pretty decent father...But At What Cost (two of his kids, apparently)? Charlie needs therapy, Sammy hates his dad (and makes sure he knows it), Michael's also pissed, and Elizabeth is confused AND pissed off.

Home Again: just the novel timeline. already kinda introduced you to it.

Clear Lenses: the good/happy timeline. no one dies :]

had. thoughts about William and David again. so have some thoughts on these two.

first off. Parallels

nonbinary, but don't really know it, and express it by effectively dehumanizing themselves (although William does it by becoming how he Personally sees himself (silly golden hare; therian stuff you get it), whereas David does it by becoming how Everyone Else perceives them (demon/cryptid type thing. also a deity, depending on occasion and how their self esteem's doing))

abused as kids

autistic and undiagnosed (because it was the fucking 80s)

horrible at regulating emotions

have a general distrust in other people, and it takes a while to really get close enough to either of them to really be considered as a "friend" (although, in William's case...this may or May Not be a good thing for you. considering Henry. and his kids.)

weird and a bit eccentric

God Complex/Big Ego

got springlocked (both cases were William's fault. yes even in William's OWN springlocking. That Was Not His Smartest Decision)

to go along with this...have a fun fact + a mini au based on said fun fact:

William doesn't like Trevor. he's more or less neutral on Skyler (knows she's trying her best but does Not think she should be raising kids. which is rich coming from the guy who Also shouldn't be raising kids, but. y'know)

David spends a good...i dunno, 25% of their time at the Afton household. William knows this kid, knows their home life fucking sucks.

William did express interest in like. adopting David. like, Mike and David were already pretty close, and William was getting extremely close to getting Trevor arrested. the only reason none of that Happened was because of William's divorce and his subsequent...bad life decisions. that included killing six children. one of which was David.

the only problem with this is that William's Not A Great Father Himself. As I've Discussed Multiple Times. he's not physically abusive; no way in hell he'd do that to a kid anyway, but especially not one who Just escaped that kind of home life. but he is emotionally abusive. and generally overbearing in a "Toxic Helicopter Parent" sense. so for David, it'd be Out Of The Frying Pan, Into The Middle Of The Fucking Ocean.

so...have a mini au idea: William does manage to adopt David before the Bullshit happens. whether this manages to keep David from getting murdered or not, i'm not sure.

i feel like, at first, it'd be great for David. an adult in their life who actually gives a shit?? wonderful!

then uh. shit starts getting not great. David's more used to being given freedom and just kinda. allowed to do whatever. William is Different, and not in a way David really likes. there's also the trope of "having yourself reflected back at you through someone else" for both of them. knowing William, he'd see that as a Good Thing, while David...it sure causes a crisis for 'em, i'll say that!!

the long story short is that William kinda. didn't "ease David into it," as some would say.

y'know the "damn bitch, you live like this" meme? that was David to Mike after like. a Month of living with him as an adopted brother. because Michael, How The Fuck. Also Why The Fuck

He released this song after coming out to his mother who also stepped away from The Mormon Church saying she didn't want to be anywhere that didn't accept her child. I'm paraphrasing a bit but that's the jest.
