[ID 1: The house is a site of desire for young protagonists because it displaces their awakening sexual desires and makes female desire both productive and palatable. The servant symbolizes both the protagonist’s desire for the house and her fear of where her own desires might lead her.
ID 2: Domestic servants closely observe their employers, and the writings of servants in history indicate that mistresses closely observe domestics and hover over their work (Katzman). In other words, mistresses and domestics haunt one another.
ID 3: In the Gothic form, in which characters always encounter their doubles such that individual identity is undermined, the mistress and servant become natural doubles, engaged in perverse, erotic, and competitive relationships. They share a privacy and intimacy normally reserved only for lovers. Yet they struggle for power until one or the other dies or leaves the house. end ID]

Do u have any enemies to lovers book rec? :) hahaha
Book recs, my favourite thing ever🤭🤗
Making this list, I realised that I haven’t read many enemies to lovers stories bc I’m SO picky when it comes to them😭😫, but here we go:
when we talk about enemies to lovers, we cannot forget about the blueprint of every other enemies to lovers ever written. The classic. The legend: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Some say it might be overrated, but I don’t think so. Yes, the writing is… oh well, but it’s still a fantastic story👏🏼♥️
as most of my more recent reads have all been recommended by TikTok: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I’m putting this in because a lot of people LOVE it. I… liked it. I’m not the biggest fan of fantasy. I tried to get into it, but it’s just not my thing. It’s a cute story for someone who likes “softer” easy to read books🤗
(careful: smut, like… A LOT) a good enemies to lovers needs some smut in my opinion, so here we go: Something Like Hate by Harloe Rae. LISTEN. The cover: not it. Thank god I read it on my phone bc you would’ve never seen me with a cover like that out on the streets. It’s an office enemies to lovers, quite fast paced I’d say but still well-written. Cliché and classic but the smut is VERY good.
A book I finished two days ago and ABSOLUTELY LOVED: The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas. Another TikTok recommendation, so I didn’t think I’d like it very much, but my god. Expectations TOPED. AARON BLACKFORD IS MY HUSBAND AND MINE ONLY ISTG, this man😫😫😫😫 The “enemies to lovers” wasn’t THAT noticeable tbh though… it was more of like… fake dating to lovers with the mc disliking him. BUT STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
I don’t know how much “enemies to lovers” it was but my god: The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood BLEW MY MIND. I wish there were more smut scenes, but the rest of the book made up for it. Amazing. Show stopping. Phenomenal. A great book and I can’t wait to read more of Ali Hazelwood.
Books I got recommended that I’m now going to read next:
To Hate Adam Connor by Ella Maise
Stanton Adore by T.L. Swan
Dare To Love by Lylah James
Love On The Brain by Ali Hazelwood (IT COMES OUT IN AUGUST😫😫 I CAN’T WAIT)
I also REALLY want to read the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi but like I said I’m not really into Fantasy or Sci-Fi so idk😭 can anyone tell me just HOW much sci-fi it is?😓
For anyone else that has good enemies to lovers book recommendations, please send them to me through my inbox or comments!🤗♥️ thank youu
For our final project, we, group 12, decided to attempt a scene from the film Swiss Army Man - directed by Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert.
The link for the scene...
youtube
we aimed to end at the 2:00 minute mark.
PRE-PRODUCTION
We started off with assigning roles for the project which would make the entire process easier. I was assigned as director and producer for this project.
My role began with creating the callsheet for the day of the shoot and putting together the schedule and doing research on the weather, location, time etc. Of course, most of this relied on the recce, for which i was unable to join, but the group scouted a really good location and it worked really well for the shoot.
SHOOTING 23/11/22
In simplest form, the shoot went very well and we managed to get a lot of really good footage.
The shooting took place at Blackford Quarry. It was barren, natural and VERY cold. It worked very well for our scene and it was a very nice environment in general. Aside from the cold, it was nice.
We began shooting pretty soon after everyone had arrived to set, there were some issues in travel which delayed the shoot by an hour or so, but it all worked in the end. The equipment was all set up and the actors worked brilliantly.
Our actors were Nina and Lachlan from the course aswell. They performed their roles incredibly and did so well to persevere through the freezing weather. They gave very genuine performances and did so well to re-animate the original film. It was great!
Our scene consists of many shot and many props were required aswell, which Fred did amazingly to provide. They looked really cool and worked really well in terms of comparison to the actual scene.
After shoot, we had a dinner break then returned to shooting a few final shots at our accommodation. This just made it easier for us and our actors as it was getting darker and colder, and the shots were relatively simpler. During these shots, I acted as 1st AC and assisted Holly with the camera whilst also continuing directing. After an hour or so, we finished shoot for the day.
Shooting continued the next day, but at a park, closer to home, for convenience for everyone. The location still worked for the shots and didn't seem to be off-putting in comparison to the Quarry. Unfortunately i was unable to make the 2nd shoot, but i heard it went successfully despite a couple minor setbacks.
All in all. Good shoot and wrap.
POST-PRODUCTION
All that was left to do at this point was the editing, which Nick had taken charge of. We started off with an issue uploading the files onto drive which caused us to miss our deadline for returning equipment, for which we did get fined but it worked out in the end. After Fred had uploaded the files and sent them to Nick, the only thing there was left to do was the edit. During this time, we also filmed our 2nd Tableau film but this was just one day of shoot and we offered support and assistance to the editor whilst also requesting feedback, to which we received all positive notions, which was great. Unfortunately, last minute we ran into some technical errors and our files had suddenly disappeared. This was a major setback as we lost much of our scene. This resulted in a deteriorated scene-recreation, which had influences of the original and some similar shots but not enough to mimic the scene.
Despite the drawbacks, we still had a good shoot and an enjoyable experience with this project. We are grateful that there are some lessons to be learned. In the future we will definitely look towards better time management and data handling, as these were our two main issues. I think we all worked very hard and very well, but I also thing we can also look forward to being more prepared in the futured so that we can avoid problems, or handle them more efficiently as they arise through organisation.
A for effort (I hope)
This is our attempt a the scene recreation. Wavering in spite of all the complications.
Normally I am all about supporting writers, authors, and poets—especially those representing the female perspective......
Buuuuut, if anyone has a PDF or plain txt copy of The Myth of Persephone in Girls' Fantasy Literature by Holly Blackford that they'd be willing to send me, I am absolutely dying to read it, but I don't have $52+tax to spare on it 😓
[Gothic] heroines in transition between states of being, just as Peter is forever “betwixt and between” in The Little White Bird (1902), persist in being attracted to various kinds of creatures that embody both immortal youth and an opportunity to express sexual desire. Creatures that symbolize the liminality between life and death entice girls away from home and make them “fall.”

psst i saw your ask on gaiman's blog. what were your favorite academic papers about coraline while researching?
my favourite paper (sadly it wasn't relevant to my essay) would probably be
Kirsten McQuinn, "Not at Home: Liminal Space and Personal Identity in The Hobbit and Coraline", Mallorn: The Journal of the Tolkien Society, 60, 14–18.
it's a very lovely comparative piece (analysis of children's literature tends to be comparative, and quite broadly at that) on the role of the liminal space in fantasy. and it didn't mention Freud at ALL which believe me, in this case that's a bonus.
A fun one that I felt,,,, some kind of way about was
Holly Blackford, "Divorce and Other Mothers: Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight (2005) and Neil Gaiman’s Coraline (2002)", in The Myth of Persephone in Girls' Fantasy Literature (London: Taylor & Francis Group, 2011) 199-220.
which again, is comparative, but it analyses Twilight and Coraline specifically in the context of how they work with the myth of Persephone which is fun.
the papers I ended up using were neither pleasant nor agreeable because they mentioned lots of Freud :( something about having to read things like
just makes me wanna. not do that. but hey! I handed the paper in yesterday so I'm free now
ok ignore this but i need to make a list somewhere of things i wanna read or at least skim for interesting bits when i have free time again so i don’t lose them

While her brothers receive the new, glossy books of Gilderoy Lockhart, Ginny herself is thrown old, discarded books that symbolically embed a very dangerous diary. It is in this diary that Ginny pours her rage, her disembodied voice, that disrupts the school and conjures the immortal boy Tom Riddle, the boy who is really the dark lord himself.
Ginny’s writing communicates things the aboveground world silences. When we discover that Ginny’s writing has transgressed the boundaries of the diary, appearing in blood on the very walls of the school, we realize that the target of a victim’s rage grows. The diary is, like the chamber, a very old vehicle for unleashing repressed feelings, also for Tom Riddle, the abandoned boy haunting Hogwarts.
Together, the parseltongue of Ginny and Tom runs riot in the school.
