Artea: "Would I play Ramon again?" ...Technically, yes. I would- I would play- I would- I would play Ramon again. It... considering I don't know how the future of the server will be, I can't really tell you guys yet whether or not I will return as Ramon. [To themself] Is the music working? [Talking to chat again] I don't know yet whether or not I would return as Ramon, especially considering I'm going away for 3 months. So, you know.
Artea: And taking over Ramon's charac- chat. That's going to be something you will really- you will hate to hear about. Probably. I think you will hate to hear about it.
Artea: I hated playing Ramon at the beginning, because I was scared of accidentally killing someone's Egg. I was also scared of, you know... it was just me being paranoid a lot, and because it was- it wasn't technically my Egg at the time, it just felt scary. [Laughs]
one of the reasons i didn't accept being trans sooner is because i'd look at the cishet men i know and at how they treat women in their lives, at how fucking vile they can get and how casual they are about being blatantly misogynistic, how there are usually absolutely no repercussions for any of it, and i'd think to myself "if this is what being a man is about then i don't want to be one". eventually i'd figure out that no, this isn't what being a man is about, it's just something a lot of them perpetuate, it's not inherent, you don't have to be That. so seeing other trans men who, generally speaking, should've had somewhat similar experiences, come out of it on the opposite end where they gleefully grab onto transmisogyny and have fun with it and feel justified and righteous perpetuating it is fucking baffling
I do appreciate the fact that Edgerunners carries on the idea the game proposes; that cyberpsychosis isn't caused by the amount of things you install into yourself but by things like faulty/poorly-installed cyberware, stress and trauma, and other outside factors like your environment and your mental health. The trailers were making me a bit concerned that it was going to renege on that idea considering they were clearly setting up a more in-depth exploration of cyberpsychosis, but I think they do a good job of explaining that you can't just install heavy-duty military-grade metal into yourself and be done with it. You need medical care, medicine, time to adjust, time to heal. All things you can only get if you've got the money for it, and all things that can easily be taken away if that money suddenly disappears.
hi everyone! read the woman in me by britney spears
i recently hit 5k and i can't actually believe that so many of you bots decided to follow this mess of a blog. thank you and i love each and every one of you whether you followed me a minute ago or way back at the beginning.
anyways on to the celebration. i thought i'd do something more akin to my first two celebrations with some gif requests. please do be mindful do before sending that it may take me a little while as i work full time to get through these. so without further ado...
SEND ME
💫 + a make me choose (this can be anything: shows, episodes, movies, singers, etc.)
🐝 + two colours and a tv episode or movie and i will make a gifset of it (example)
💖 (mutuals only) i will make you a surprise gifset
i wanted to do a follow forever but tumblr literally won't let me make a post with all my mutuals (i went through my following, noted them all down then alphabetized them and everything only for tumblr to crash every time i get to D when i try to put them in a post. i even went through heartbreak when i realised longtime mutuals had unfollowed me for no reason) so sadly I can't mention you all but i truly love all of you.
i think it was a good adaptation of specifically hareton and catherine 2... unfortunately for heathcliff and cathy, absolutely not.
i had gotten a lot of hopes with part 2 for the direction of catherine's character, but unfortunately she was completely defanged and does not resemble her book counterpart whatsoever. this is also true of heathcliff. part of the appeal to heathcliff and catherine as concepts are the ways they both are obsessed with and hate each other.
there is also an instance where catherine and heathcliff are just out of context quoting the book at each other, and one of the lines quite literally undermines the entire conflict of the canto:
the context of this line is book!heathcliff is blaming catherine for her own death after she tries to blame him. he calls catherine her own murderer and the source of his misery. there's no reason for him to say this when looking for catherine's affections from her ghost. i would've rather they not included the line at all than this.
and on the actual canto-specific plot structure point of things, many of the hooks set up in parts 1 and 2 extremely well just amount to completely nothing.
all they had to do for erlking heathcliff was show him a world where they're happy for him to be like "oh lol whoops." what? granted, that didn't solve the issue, but i hope why it's unsatisfying is clear.
the hook i have the most issues with is nelly. why in the hell would she have any reason to be a part of the main antagonist faction if the Entire Reason for her allying with them to begin with has never existed in any universe at this point? i cannot stand storylines like this.
overall, lots of cool moments. really cool analysis of heathcliff's character. until it wasn't. oh well. i'll probably talk more about it later when the dust has settled. i don't want to be overly negative so soon. but alas.
also PLEASE don't read this as an actual criticism or a negative post bc i am poking fun at myself but. i truly did have a moment of Complete Irrational Blind Rage about how marcille was convinced to give up on her wish. i was sitting there like yes yes i recognize that this is about the theme of food is love & love is food & taking care of yourself is taking care of others & i also recognize that this is about marcille coming to terms with reality n accepting grief n growing as a person n realizing she cannot unilaterally make decisions for other people, etc, i get it, i GET that it's thematically how this arc must end, i get that this is the correct writing decision, i get that it's narratively satisfying, i get that it's cute and it's all about love, i get that it's what marcille needs to hear from her loved ones, I Get It I Promise
.......BUT THIS IS SO FUNDAMENTALLY FUCKING NOT FIXING HER VERY REAL ISSUE..... LIKE HER VERY REAL GRIEVANCE THAT IS COMPLETELY FUCKING REASONABLE.....
the difference between me and her is that i woulda decked the party. i guess. i projected so hard onto her that it shocked me when she didn't immediately start blasting. bc i was So Fucking Mad.
btw since i had my reservations at the beginning: my verdict on astarion is that he's a well written (and delightfully performed) character and that people are just weird about him. like, based on the portrayals i saw of him on the internet i expected him to be an insufferably over the top character who makes sexual references every other sentence hazbin hotel style but turns out he's a reasonable and believable character with natural-flowing dialogue and people are just weird lol. ('reasonable' here refers to the way he's written - i'm aware he's unhinged as a person)
it's a shame because i feel like whenever there's an honest portrayal of victims of sexual violence, fandom tends to make such an... uncomfortable spectacle out of it?
like for example, when people talk about how his eagerness to initiate something with your character is born from his trauma, that's definitely true, but fandom's portrayal of it makes it sound like he's throwing himself at everyone left and right every second of the day every day and then they're like 'omg it's so sad how he's doing that.. his trauma..' like are you sure that isn't mostly you being weird about him 😭 because he literally never propositioned my character until the game throws you the 'hey if you missed the chance to romance a character earlier or if you weren't aware of your options, here's your chance' campfire scene where literally every single character propositions you. and when i declined he never did again 🤷♂️
and some of his unpleasant behavior literally can't be excused by his past at all and is just him being a little shit which is also a fun aspect of his character that's worth considering. idk it doesn't sit well with me that people are turning his whole deal into an 'omg my dark broody vampire prince' instead of. engaging with the character seriously.
Hey remember when Baghera adopted Dapper like 8 months ago or did I make that up ?
