Self-Hate in the Black Community

As children we grew up watching TV shows and movies that only portrayed white people. Pushed certain beauty standards onto us such as blacks having straight hair, being overweight, sassy, and light skin. For generations we were told our hair was unprofessional. We were told that darker skin and afrogenic features are ugly. That has brainwashed the black community forever. The effects of this thinking have given birth to colorists and self hate. Black women and men have fallen victim to self hate. I myself hated some of my afrogenic features. We have celebrities openly being colorists which has also persuaded some black youth to think the same as well. 

Everyday I see a young black man or woman shaming and harassing darker skinned black people, because of their skin and coarse hair. Calling their hair nappi. Dating oppressors while bashing their own community out of self hatred. Creating children with the same thinking. Attempting to wash the black out of their family, all because they hate themselves that much. Remember that light, brown, dark, and albino are beautiful. We should build each other up instead of tearing each other down. Don’t bash your own community, because you’re blind to your own beauty. Don’t buy into the stereotypes you were taught to accept. I am just being real when I say this

I have just realized something about the fanfics I read. Almost all of them have a default setting, which is the reader being white. I am a person of color, and this offends me in a way. Take fanfictions like pie charts, 60% of it is default, 30% is black, and 10% is other. Now I am not calling anyone writers out when I say this, but can we at least take it into consideration that there is barely poc!reader fanfictions out there. I bet some of you may disagree with me on this topic, and others may not. If you have anything to say about this let me know.
