Here’s Blaze Powerchord and Minuet Sonata representing Beauty and the Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve. Their traits and personalities really remind me of Belle and the Beast/Prince Adam that I kinda matched the fairytale for them.

Trollstopia Blindblogging: episode 8b: Mouth Guitar

(this lovely hiatus was brought to us by a truly charming bout of muscular COVID and a slamming hard 4 season binge of the criminally underrated Lego Nexo Knights but I’m back on my bullshit don’t worry)

Took a small break and came back on a Banger of an episode. Really the Rock and Classical Trolls are a huge hoot together so far and I can’t wait for an encore. Inoffensive. The characters were really fun and some of my faves. not sure ow I feel about Blaze yet, we shall see. Purely instrumental song but it kinda Busted Ass and Rocked Hard. A really good, entertaining, solid 4 our of 5

This is one of those episode that exploded my dash way back when so I’m, hoping that means its a good one but yes it’s at least surface level spoiled in that I know that Minuet and a Rock Troll named Blaze but my knowledge ends there. You have no idea how tempting it is when your sick to just binge what you want but I wanna blind blog this damn it and I shall

I think might actually be the first time ever we’ve seen a Troll practice. ok no that's a lie the very first movie “Move You’re Hair” was a dress rehearsal but that’s not the point. The point is, for a species who’s entire various cultures are centered around singing or dancing there’s shockingly little practice going on. Of which I would  be perfectly willing to listen to some kind of magic or instinctual explanation but we don’t get that either. All to say I spend waaaaaaay to much time making schedules for the average trolls to try and determine how much of their time is taken up with practice, and how necessary it is, You’ll be happy to know that answer basically boils down to “depends on the troll in question”

“Music to my eyes” is so terribly charmingly delightful

 It’s not a proper Trolls freakout if they don’t present a common and very lighthearted turn of phrase as srs business

On the one hand, a Troll choosing to imitate an instrument instead of playing or singing is pretty interesting in terms of my headcanons, placing Troll's genders (in terms of self expression and societal rolls) as a triangular spectrum of instrumental, vocal, and physicals performance (dance). So instantly in that context, my brain is telling me that Blaze either identifies as either a vocal or instrumental Troll, and might have a genetic inclination or natural talent towards the opposite, and this is his happy medium. I find this infinitely interesting. On the other hand, my second hand embarrassment is flaring and I have to go lay face down in a pillow for 20 minutes. 

Why is him never stopping a problem? There should be music going on somewhere at all times in theory. Realistically, this shouldn’t be an issue, you just wander in and out of whatever performances and parties are to be had at the time at whim. But it is a TV show I guess

I had to watch it like, twice to make sure I didn’t imagine it but that little thing where he took off his shades and there were shades underneath is like a B tier joke at best but something about the little noise it made when he did it and how massive they are and how quick it was set me off

He- he di- he did it again it’s so fast and- he put them back on and they are all layered up and crooked. I keep having to stop and giggle that’s so ridiculous

You don’t get that boastful and accomplished without some sort of praise fetish that bitch took one look at the disappointed crowd and was like “NVM lets rock to the death then”

I bet the look he just gave her was a ship launcher he either respects her, is amused, DTF, or some combination of the above

forgive me for the theory crafting live, but given what Val says about it being passion over technique, it being a weird mash of ability expression, how Val also appears to know how in a way that shows they just assume she did... it would be interesting to place mouth guitar or mouth instruments in general as like, Baby’s first Rock Music in the Rock Tribe, a stepping stone to figuring self identity that Rock Troll’s carry through life. Not a whole lot to back it but not anything to say nay either. Gotta think on this more...

I know the lesson of the day is probably “Minuet’s way is wrong for Rock and she needs to learn to let go” And I like the idea of Troll’s exploring parts of themselves not available in their own village (IE Minuet is from the Classical tribe and excels there where technique and precision are particularly deified but she fails and is a poor performer in Tribes that value other aspects. And now she has a chance to explore those aspects and what measures success in them outside of her Tribe) but on the other hand my little precise steps and instruction baby obviously processes and finds success in her learning process and not all kids learn the same. It would be nice if she could be successful with Mouth guitar in her own fashion but I doubt it.

Honestly I wish the show put as much into the value of music to Funk as they do Rock. I bet Minuet would be horrified by Syncopation.

I’m sorry, but this is very distracting. I don’t know what it is but whatever is happening with Minuet’s glitter animation makes it look like she’s profusely sweating milk. Like my brain is hiccupping and it’s dripping down her face. Don’t know what’s up with that but it needs to stop before Minuet becomes a sweaty bitch in my brain.

Completely forgot to follow up to this post but HERE WE GO !!!

Also buckle up this post is long bc if there's one thing I will not do it is make brief post. Also I have a lot of opinions on this.

First off I have to put the one that's been on my mind the most: I think Velvet and Veneer would get on great with Electra but specifically two different versions of him. Velvet would vibe with pre-2018 rehaul Electra and Veneer would lean closer to post-2018 rehaul Electra. Both versions are major huffy puffy rich divas who don't like things not going their way, but post-2018 holds a slightly more mellow tone to him while still being just as much of an antag as his colorful counterpart, which I thing matches Velvet and Veneer pretty well. Idk if anyone else has noticed but Velvet has brighter and more saturated eyeshadow than Veneer in their final fits, at least it looks that way to me. Pictures for reference it makes more sense this way:

Second I have to mention one that's stuck to me hardcore and that's Poppy and Pearl but SPECIFICALLY post-2018 Pearl. Any possible starlight express fans seeing this post might think pre-2018 would be more sensible bc they're both pink but the thing is they have major personality contrasts. I think that post-2018 Pearl would get on better with Poppy because she has a younger and more peppier feel to her than her counterpart does, what she lacks in color she makes up for in being So Incredibly Confused all the time and honestly she just radiates Poppy to me far more than pre-2018, so yeah I think post-2018 Pearl would be good friends with Poppy. Hell great friends even. Though I ALSO think that Poppy would get along great with Rusty because he's a very excitable character and he has the EXACT determination and drive to succeed that Poppy has, the biggest difference between them though is that Rusty is a lot quicker to give up, he's got support but where Poppy has an entire kingdom at her back Rusty only had a handful of people and only two of them were complete steady support (I'm not knocking the Rockies bc their advice to him was genuine but hey read the room he knows the system sucks). Though on that note I think Rusty could get along good with Branch too, probably a tad bit closer with Poppy but they'd both be his pals in my eyes.

Next up, I really do believe that both Greaseball and Flat-Top would get along with ALL of the rock trolls. But like specifically the rock trolls. Genuinely. Flat-Top would be more receptive to all of them while Greaseball would be less inclined to get personal with a lot of them and would chill better with the more titular guys like Barb. Flat-Top is just generally very punk and wild while Greaseball is very self-confident. I don't know how well Val and Flats would get on but I do believe he and Riff might get long better than he would any of the others. Greaseball would however get along best with Barb and mostly tolerate the others, maybe he'd enjoy Demo's company, but DEFINITELY not Blaze Powerchord. GB and Electra's rivalry is canon proof that diesel CANNOT STAND people as overconfident as he is.

^^^ pictured Barb and GB being silly because Greaseball's a self-absorbed dude and Barb is aggressive but what they have in common is they're actually goobers and few people truly see this. This is also part of why I think they'd be friends.

Anyway that's all I have for now it's like almost 11:50pm but I hope you see my vision and I hope I can convince people of each fandom to take a peek at the other bc as a trolls and starlight express fan I think these fandoms should have way more overlap, they're both goofy silly pieces of media that get looked down upon by the people outside of them for being fun and whimsical. Solidarity and all that.

a new minublaze fic with a headcanon that suddenly just STRUCK me a few nights ago!!! 1.2k words, some suggestive lines, but mostly talk about dealing with disability

"May I... touch you?" 

Minuet smiled at how nervous and polite Blaze was, now that they were alone together. There was no show, no one to impress, it was just them. It helped Minuet to relax as well, as a fellow chronic show off. 

"Yes, of course," she murmured, nodding. Blaze nervously smiled, and gently reached out. 

It was awkward, especially at first. He gasped as he put his hands on her cheeks and began traveling downward. "You're so small..." 

Minuet chuckled, placing one of her own hands on the back of one of his, making him jump and blush. "Heh, yes, quite different feeling the size difference rather than seeing it..." She had a blush of her own, especially as one large purple hand dipped around her thigh and squeezed before looping back upward. It hesitated at her choker for a moment, feeling at the lace and satin, before cupping her other cheek again. He rubbed each cheek with her thumb, surprisingly gentle, even gentler when her face pinched and she made a small sound of discomfort at the feeling of her glitter being rubbed at. He gasped when his fingers found her beauty mark. 

"You've got a mole!" he said, and Minuet would have felt offended if anyone else said that, but he just sounded awed, a bit of a smile on his face. 

She giggled a bit in confusion, though. "Of course I have a mole, it's my beauty mark, one of the most obvious parts of my face...?" She paused. 

Blaze still had his sunglasses on. She reached out, and he just barely flinched when she touched his face in turn. She lifted the glasses, only having to gather up three or four pairs to see his eyes. He was looking directly at her, sure, but... his gaze almost seemed to be looking through her. 

She tilted her body to one side. His hands were still on her face and stayed there, and his gaze followed, with barely a hint of hesitation. She pulled his hands down to her shoulders and tilted to the other side, and he still followed... but didn't quite land on her face. She was dumbfounded, and didn't want to believe her theory, but... she finally held up a hand. "How many fingers am I holding up, Blaze?" 

Blaze grimaced. "Uh..." He wasn’t looking at her hand. He was still looking at her face. Mostly.

He suddenly grabbed at her hand but she was quicker, moving it away with a gasp of shock. 

"Blaze, are you blind??"

Blaze gulped. "Uhhhhh..." 

Minuet tilted her head again, squinting. He kept vocalizing, but his eyes didn’t seem to quite follow her properly. If she made any noise, they'd land on her very exactly, but only then. And even so, she only knew that because she was one of the few people who regularly saw him without his MANY glasses. Which... she'd tried them on before. They were very dark... the way he layered them, she was practically blind when she tried to imitate that. 

If he was actually blind, he wouldn't care, would he? 

Blaze finally gasped as he ran out of air, and sighed. "Ok. Fine. Yes. I'm blind." 

Minuet frowned, gently putting a small hand on his cheek. He placed his own over hers, practically engulfing it as he leaned into it. "Blaze... why didn't you say anything?" she asked, gently. 

"...pretty much everyone back home knows already... I figured people would notice pretty quickly here. But... then they didn’t. And… even though rock trolls are pretty great about not being bothered by disability, and supporting it... you still get strange reactions, y’know? Even if I can't see a look I can feel it... so it was neat, not having people ask if I needed help down stairs, or telling me when they're ready for a stage dive, or offering too much visual description for something..." 

"...those sound like... good accommodations, but like they would get a tad annoying after a while." 

"Exactly," Blaze breathed emphatically, suddenly gripping her hand and grinning with excitement. Then he gentled, releasing her hand. "I sometimes need those things. But other times, even if people are casual, they make it harder. So I just... end up trying to find control, and..." 

"...seem annoying in the process..." Minuet murmured. 

"Yup." 

Minuet nodded. "...oh gosh, your air guitar must feel extra real because you can feel it and don't have to imagine a visual as well!" 

Blaze chuckled. "Since they're from my imagination, they're the clearest thing I can "see". To be honest, I was shocked and... way too excited when I realized I could "see" your guitar nearly as well as mine."

Minuet smiled gently, and then blinked as she realized... Blaze couldn't see it. "I'm... I'm very glad I was able to connect with you over air guitar then, Blaze." 

He grinned. "I'm still SUPER impressed that you managed to fight your own vision and actually get it. Not many people can, especially adults... Val mostly gets it cuz we grew up together, and she still can't always play the instruments she sees." 

Minuet nodded, making sure Blaze felt it. “I’m glad you had her…”

Blaze snorted. “Pfft, we still act like siblings. We HATE each other even if we’d probably murder a troll for each other if need be.” Then his look softened. “But you’re right, as always… I am grateful for her.” He looked a bit nervous, and then leaned in, gently pressing his forehead to hers. “...and for you…”

Minuet blushed, giggling as she suddenly felt all hot and nervous. Blaze almost felt like a different person in private, so much more polite and kind… 

Her giggling cut short as she realized he may be compensating, trying to fit the stereotype that he had been forced into, of the inattentive asshole who didn’t bother to look where he was going and cared more about his performance than the trolls around him. 

Classical trolls didn’t normally do this, but… she hugged him. 

He gagged, and she was sure she was clinging too tight, but then he adjusted and held her back. His voice sounded strained, somehow, when he spoke. “Thank you, Minnie,” he choked out, and Minuet couldn’t tell if he was holding back laughter or tears. “Thank you.” 

Minuet nodded into his shoulder. “Just let me know if I get too overbearing, Blaze,” she insisted, “or I won’t be able to forgive myself.”

Blaze finally laughed, a very wet laugh. She felt him let go of her with one arm and wipe a tear away. “Of course. Gotta be honest to a fault. You know me.” 

Minuet snorted. “Except when you lie to cover your reputation…”

“That was one time, with Rose and Romper…” 

“Twice, with the tattoo… did they know you were blind, by the way?”

“Oh, yeah, totally, I’m sure that’s the only reason they didn’t comment on my hairy sandwich…”

They talked like that for a while into the night, continuing to cuddle and explore each other with his new information in mind… and Minuet with an ever predictable determination to learn exactly how to politely accommodate her boyfriend.

A/N: I hope you enjoyed!! I am planning a rewatch of the show to see if there's any specific place where this headcanon could be DISproved, but for now it's basically an AU :) I think it would be super appropriate considering... well, everything about them. especially minuet's own self esteem issues and blaze's imagination being so powerful he can effect the real world...

Here’s my last two sets of my design for the fairies in my fairy au. I start to like this ship @groovinyeen recommended, DJ Suki and Demo. They really are a match made in Tír na nÓg because Demo is soft in comparison to his fellow rock trolls and he had a pal-entine match with DJ Suki, which result in this ship. As for Blaze Powerchord and Minuet Sonata, they are a match too because of the episode, Mouth Guitar.
