fs blue x erune for the shipfic thing?
I did them here earlier but I totally did them again (170 words, mentions of blood)
---
The contents of a picnic spill haphazardly down the grassy, sunny hill: a thick blanket, a tipped basket, half-gnawed turkey legs, a bottle of wine. The call of a monster cuts off abruptly with a spray of blood and a gurgle, courtesy of a very sharp sword. Its last remaining companion drops to the ground and tumbles down the side of the hill like a rag doll.
Blue steps away from the bloody monster corpses so as not to get his boots dirty. He looks up at Erune with wide eyes, noting the cast-iron skillet held in both her hands and the way her sky-colored dress doesn't have a single drop of blood on it. She breathes hard and looks back at Blue with a laugh in her smile.
"You know," Blue says when the sound dies down and he can speak again, "I'd apologize for a ruined picnic, but that was…"
"Fun!" Erune finishes, and sure, that's not what he was going to say, but he agrees anyway.

Naming for Keith and Lance
As a part of putting Voltron characters into the fantasy world of Skyrim, I had to adjust names to fit more lore-friendly writing. Some characters had a lot of thought behind their names, others not so much. However, I wanted some connection to original Voltron character names, so the idea of nicknames came into play. I learned some interesting meanings behind what I had assumed to be average names. In this post, I’ll cover Lance and Keith!
First up is Lance!
He was straightforward to put together, simply adding an -en to the end of his name. “Lancen” is how all characters refer to him. Lancen means “land” or “territory.” The design of his character is mainly rooted in Wood Elf (Bosmer) creation, and thus in Skyrim lore, giving him a name that could connect back to his homeland of Valenwood was a spot-on choice. The last name I chose was “Bluerun.” Initially, this idea related him to the color blue and his original character association with the blue lion. However, I found that keeping in tune with the pattern of nature, Bluerun could also be read as another way to say “river.”
Keith’s has to be my favorite because I was surprised by the two meanings an internet search provided me with. So his Skyrim-friendly name I changed to is “Kiara.” Another relatively easy name to pick out and notice it’s Keith, especially tied in with his appearance in his first introduction. Kiara is a name with many origins and thusly has a few different meanings, some of which are: “Light/first ray of the sun” or “clear” (Italian: Chiara) but also “little dark one/dark/black” (Irish: Ciara). I thought a name with such a unique duality was perfect for the complexity of his character, which will eventually be elaborated on heavily in chapters 11-20. “Keith” has the most surprising meanings, two in fact, and it works perfectly in a tie with Lance’s. “Wood or forest”/”From the battleground.” The fact I was pulling these names out of the air and later researching them to be perfect for the characters was entirely luck, but I am delighted with them.
Here is the piece of dialogue from Chapter 5, Proving Honor pt. 2:

“Just in case Halo has to carry your dead body out, having Dimmadis and I nearby would be helpful.” When Kiara’s teasing got no reply, he turned to look at Lancen, all amusement leaving him when Lancen kept his eyes to the ground.
“You’ll be fine,” his words changed immediately. “If you keep yourself long-range with your bow and let Halolaf deal with the more upfront attacks, you should effortlessly get through the ruin before the sun has set. You have about a dozen healing brews, and Halo could give you a feast on the dusty floor with all that he’s prepared.”
He relaxed a little with Kiara’s reassurances, “You know, I understand we like to tease each other, but you can be really nice when you want to.” If any worry had been on the Companion’s face, it dissipated quickly with the comment. But his eyes did stay soft.
“Yes, well, ‘Keith’ isn’t a hard enough insult for me to be entirely apathetic with you.” Lancen looked at him funny with a small smile, “‘Keith’ was a tease, sure, but not an insult. What was insulting about it?”
“You changed my name?” Kiara replied, looking equally confused. “Yes, it sounds funny, but the meaning fits you well.”
“The meaning?”
Lancen blinked before realization dawned, “Oh my gods- you don’t know what the name means.” Lancen chuckled to himself, wiping a hand down his face, “Of course you wouldn’t; that’s my mistake. I’m sorry; I probably seemed ruder than I intended. ‘Keith’ isn’t an insult at all. I merely gave you a different name that would transfer into Bosmer significance.”
Keith raised his eyebrow as if prodding more information from him.
“‘Keith’ has two meanings, one which is ‘wood, or forest,’ and the other which is ‘from the battleground.’ I thought by giving it to you, you would recognize it was significant to your warrior lifestyle, but also...give some tie to my elven homeland.” Lancen explained, shying a bit as he explained.
Kiara tilted his head slightly, “Why would you give me a name like that? What does tying it to Valenwood mean?”
Lancen sincerely hoped it was too dark to see his face, given how it was warming, “It’s something a Bosmer does to initiate a friendship, especially if the one receiving the name is not Bosmer. We can’t be united by race, so we’re joined by a name.”
He realized that may have been terrible wording as he waited for Kiara’s response.
“Sounds personal,” Kiara pointed out the obvious.
“I guess it makes sense then that when you teased back, you only shortened my name. The teasing was lost on us both, I suppose.”
The two had made it to the stables by now, Kiara proceeding to saddle Dimmadis, “I shortened your name to ‘Lance’ because despite this playful banter you enjoy so much, I was not going to defile your given name. Nords hold a lot of power in their name, sometimes their entire reputation.”
“I believe Lancen means ‘land,’ which ties you to your homeland and what your culture cares about most. ‘Lance’ means the same thing. You were right when the teasing was lost on us; you were building a friendship, and I was simply saying your name.”
Kiara patted the saddle once he fixed it on the horse, the reins in his hand as he pulled himself onto the giant shire.
He looked down at Lancen, a smirk evident on his face, “Which is why I gave the option of ‘pointy-eared idiot.’ That one is true teasing.” Lancen returned the smile, hoisting himself up to sit behind the rider. When Dimmadis didn’t try shaking him off and remained calm, it was a sign of clear victory from yesterday’s introduction.
“Just for clarification, because I in no way want to be truly insulting, is calling you ‘Keith’ a defilement of ‘Kiara’?”
“You’ll find I often don’t partake in some of the same cultures as the rest of Nords do. If you should have to call me ‘Keith’ to entertain yourself, I don’t mind now that I know the meaning. However, if you touch my last name, I shall have to kill you.”
Lancen laughed nervously, “Understood.”

In future posts, I’ll go into other names for characters like Pidge (Petra), Hunk (Halolaf), and Shiro (Shirogon).

"Red and Green are out on patrol in one of the towns," Blue says, rolling her eyes. "Zelda loves to send them together on those because 'they work so well together', apparently."
"And Vio?"
Blue scoffs. "Locked themself up in the castle library again. You know how they are with their research."
Erune wilts, disappointed. She turns around and continues down the hall.
"But don't worry!" Blue is quick to reassure, jogging up and matching her stride. "It's just me, but we can still have fun. Girl's night!"
It is the middle of the day.
She laughs at her antics and leads Blue into the parlor. "Girl's night," she parrots.
A girl's night turns into something a bit more.
