Feeding Time - Jung Hoseok - Mafia AU oneshot

Hello! This is my first BTS imagine in quite a while, so please let me know if you like it :) I have quite a few things in the works, including another chapter of Blueside.

also, this is one piece a of a new series :) we will definitely be learning more about hobi and the reader

It had been a long time since you last set foot in this compound. It wasn’t like you had any reason to come anymore. The six-month mark of you leaving Hoseok just passed last week, yet as you stepped through the threshold of the main living room, it was like nothing had changed.

Jimin and Jungkook were posted on the couch, enthralled in an intense match of Mario Kart. Small clattering noises were coming from the kitchen to the right, and you assumed Jin was preparing dinner. Neither of the boys really said hello, just small grunts of acknowledgment at your entry.

You slipped off your shoes and quietly moved through the room toward the hallway on the left. This was a familiar path and one you used to take quite often to find Hoseok.

Bangtans compound was expansive, but this wing was where they lived and where the seven members spent most of their leisure time. The common areas were suited for large groups of people to watch tv or eat together, and the suites were even better. Every sleeping quarter had a small work area with a desk and shelving, a mini-fridge opposite, and a large bedroom with an attached bath and closet through the next door. It was like its own small apartment. You’d never have to see anyone else if you didn’t want to.

You continued your path down the hall and stopped at the fourth door on the left. This was where the path ended. You weren’t really ready to set foot in this room again, but when Hoseok left you a voicemail begging you to check on his cat, how were you supposed to say no. Even though you didn’t want to see him it doesn’t mean you didn’t want to see little Max anymore.

Max was Hoseok’s orange tabby cat that wormed his way into your heart the first day you met. It wasn’t your first time at the compound, but it was your first time staying the night with Hoseok. You followed him down the long hallway and were surprised when you heard gentle mews coming from the other side of the door.

“What is that noise?” You asked. It was hard for you to imagine big bad Hoseok with a pet, but when he opened the door, and you were met with Max, you immediately fell in love.

You’d had pets growing up, but when you moved out for college, you were left alone.

There were many nights spent cuddling with Max in the king-size bed, wondering where Hoseok was and if he was even going to come home to you.

One of these nights, you decided you couldn’t take it anymore, and you had to leave.

Shaking your head, you tried to compose yourself. You didn’t need to be having these thoughts of Hoseok, and you certainly didn’t want to think about the night you broke up. That was for another time when you had a bottle or two of wine ready.

Hoseok’s voicemail had been full of whining about how he didn’t trust the boys to check on his cat, and he didn’t want them in there, but he was going to be stuck on his assignment for another few days, and the automatic feeder was out of food.

You hadn’t listened to the whole thing because after 45 seconds, you were overwhelmed.

You texted him that you’d stop by, and his response shocked you.

From: Hobi - Your door code still works.

You couldn’t believe your eyes. Somehow, Hoseok had managed to convince Yoongi to leave your door code active, even though you no longer had any ties to any of the Bangtan members.

Yoongi is very tight about security and safety, and you could only imagine what bribing it took for Hoseok to pull this off. The door codes work for not only the interior doors but the main exterior door as well.

You swiftly typed in the code, excited to see your furry friend for the first time in a while.

Max was meowing his head off as soon as the door swung open, rubbing all over your legs. It didn’t take long to fill up the feeder, but you figured he was lonely and probably hadn’t seen a human in who knows how long. A few minutes of pets wouldn’t hurt.

Sitting down in Hoseok’s desk chair, you spun around to the side to pick up Max.

He settled into your lap without much fuss, and you stroked his back, looking around to take in the environment. You wondered what new things he might have done with his place.

Nearly everything was the same except for a few new stickers on his fridge. Even the crooked poster you hung up was still crooked. Your gaze dropped from the wall to his desk, and your picture was still there where it always sat.

Hoseok would tell you he liked to look at it while he worked on his computer because it reminded him of what he had to come home to. He couldn’t be reckless anymore because you were at home waiting, and you needed him like he needed you.

You kept his head on straight. You kept him focused. He was in love.

You fully expected for all traces of you to be gone. Hoseok did not take your request to separate lightly. He had a full-blown meltdown and trashed his room. He went from begging you to stay to screaming at you to leave. There were lots of tears shed, and it was not something you wanted to relive.

Sighing, you patted Max so he would get up. This was never how you wanted things to go.

You saw a future with Hoseok. Even though his lifestyle wasn’t ideal, you truly loved him. It was more than you could say about any other man.

“I’ll see you soon, little man.” You gave Max one last scratch before you secured the door.

Making your way back out to the living area, Yoongi was seated on the loveseat next to the two others who were still in the middle of Mario Kart.

You slipped your shoes back on and headed back out the door to leave the compound.

It wasn’t a surprise when Yoongi followed. You’d assumed he would see you on the cameras and come to investigate.

“I never thought I would see you back here.” Yoongi’s voice startled you. He was still a few paces behind you.

“You obviously did. Otherwise, you would have deactivated my code,” You turned to face him, “What did that cost Hoseok?”

“You don’t call him ‘Hobi’ anymore?” He ignored your question.

Silence ensued.

Shaking his head, he said, “It cost him nothing.”

“I know that’s not how this works.” You may not have been involved directly in this world, but you knew nothing was ever free.

“I have hope for the two of you,” Yoongi crossed the distance,” give him another chance. He’s a wreck without you.”

It wasn’t like getting back with Hoseok wasn’t something you pondered yourself, but you really didn’t want to have this conversation right now.

“I’m not doing this, Yoongi.”

“Fine, fine. I won’t push, but he misses you. Think about it, okay?” He squeezed your shoulder and returned to the others in the living room.

Way back when, before any of this happened, you and Yoongi had been friends. It was before you met Hoseok, before Yoongi joined Bangtan, before all of it. You grew up in the same area, so you were often on the same buses and in the same classes at school.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Yoongi at the first dinner Hoseok had invited you to.

You knew that your separation from Hoseok hurt Yoongi as well, because he lost you too.

Turning on your heel, you made it the rest of the way out without a fuss and got into your car.

As you drove away with the compound in your rearview mirror, you had a feeling it would not be the last time you left this place.
