Por si no lo sabéis, BMW solicitó la marca 'iM' en Alemania en octubre de 2021. Muchos entusiastas inmediatamente comenzaron a especular que la M de BMW lanzaría una sub-marca iM, que sería una serie híbrida o completamente eléctrica de sus vehículos M. Tuve la oportunidad de conocer algunos de estos en los últimos años y debo admitir que son bastante impresionantes. Sin embargo, el CEO de BMW M, Markus Flasch, ha despejado el aire, descartando las especulaciones. En una reciente entrevista, confirmó que actualmente no tienen planes de lanzar un iM3. Aunque "BMW M sigue trabajando en tecnología híbrida y completamente eléctrica", sostuvo que no habrá un iM3 específicamente. Personalmente, creo que esto es intrigante. Ahora bien, los puristas de los autos pueden estar decepcionados (o aliviados) con esta noticia, pero creo que hay una sensatez en la decisión de BMW M. A fin de cuentas, ¿qué es un M3? Es más que simplemente un auto BMW con un gran motor y una tonelada de potencia. El M3 tiene una herencia y una personalidad que se ha construido a lo largo de décadas. Pero, ¿sería la misma máquina si se convierte a electricidad? Esa es una pregunta para otro día. Todavía, desearía responder a una pregunta más. ¿Podría BMW M lanzar una variante totalmente eléctrica del M3 en el futuro? Flasch no descarta esta posibilidad, remarca que todavía están "analizando el potencial de los sistemas electrificados". Tal vez todavía haya un pequeño rayo de esperanza para un iM3... o quizás algo aún mejor.
