Touya's perspective (Ch 287-290)

There were so many POV switches and huge gaps between the short chapters, so I think people don't realize that this is a continuous sequence that takes place in a matter of maybe 1-2 minutes.

It's about Touya regressing into a childlike state where he gets everything his 13-year old self wanted only to realize how simple it all could have been, that the potential was there in the family to be happy.

Touya shouldn't have had to turn into Dabi, burn himself and the world to get this, but also maybe the "reward" was not as fulfilling as he imagined it to be - and there is "sizzl" written by his eyes - as if tears were evaporating.

And the rage bursts out, makes him crack, and as Shouto appears to clash with him again and you can literally see Touya's pupils coming back. Making him finally look at Shouto not as some masterpiece monster creation of their father who only exists to take everything from Touya, but as a desperate, crying little boy who is not that different from Touya. His brother - who also wants their family be together.

Touya seeing Shouto that way also makes him realize that there are things he still wants to say.

So when the words come stumbling out, it's all his unprocessed hurt and anger and rage, but he's not burning himself or the world anymore. And on the last panel, the melting ice looks like streaks of tears.

It looks angry and hateful, but they are communicating and letting out feelings and that's an essential part of processing grief.

She doesn't get upset over his death in the way you would think - because it was an inevitable conclusion. She knew he would die because he was planning to die. He wore white to the battlefield. His goal was to kill his father and himself. He came there to die. And quite honestly? So did she. So did Spinner. I'm just saying - the final battle was about convincing the League there's something to live for. It's about reaching a hand and telling the crabs boiling in a bucket they don't have to boil.

You know, thinking about it, the resolution of the Todoroki plotline might have me more convinced we’re getting a My Hero part 2 more than ever, because it…didn’t really resolve much. Dabi still wants to die. He still hates his family. No one in that family can talk to Touya to save their or his life. And I know some people have stopped caring over time; but corruption in hero society looks like it’ll still run rampant and we have 0 reason to think there won’t be more Endeavors and Dabis in the future.

I mean all the 390 climax was, really, was Shoto using his ice in conjuncture with his family’s ice to overpower Dabi’s fire. And sure there was some symbolic meaning to the whole affair but…that’s really it, that’s the climax for the entire Todoroki plotline? No sympathizing with Touya, no convincing him to live, no Endeavor putting his family before heroics…just Shoto stopping a bomb we knew about for 5 whole chapters and leaving everything else as it was? (I guess there was also the world’s weakest-ass-apology if you want to count it.)

Look I know there’s a degree to which they’d have always had to talk about some things off screen, and they did say they were gonna talk. There’s already people supposing that 390 wasn’t the end, we’ll come back for a final-final resolution between the family. There’ll probably be something similar for Toga & Shigaraki. But some things is the key term; not everything. You can’t cut back to them for a few pages and address everything wrong with Touya in that time before moving on to the other two. I know people like to simplify the villains to make their saves seem easier & more guaranteed, but I think it’s fair to say Dabi’s a bit more complicated than that.

And like, maybe it is just rushed writing; but the sheer degree to which all the bad blood is still there, coupled with Dabi’s new ice side of his quirk that we’ve done little to nothing with, just makes it seem like the Todoroki plot line is not close to done; which flies in the face a bit of this being the final arc. Hence why I’m back on my theory train as to how this is not the finale and there’ll be a My Hero continuation after the war.

Okay but I hope y'all write a million fics where pro-hero Touya almost sacrifices himself only to be saved at last minute by his mother ice quirk, okay?

I hope there are a million fanfics of Shouto crying over it while he hears Touya going "it seems it was you and me all along, little bro". Hope we get a million variations of Natsuo and Fuyumi and Rei running for Touya's life, streching their ice as far as they can, hoping to catch him, hoping to save him.

I hope for a million aus where Enji apologizes and Touya cries blood but they're from joy for once in his life, and hope he chokes on his words as he says "we all should be dead" but he is in awe that they are not. He's finding it hard to believe his luck, hard to breath, hard to wrap his head around the fact that he did get the fire, the ice, everything.

To everyone who’s worried that Dabi/Touya died in this week’s chapter:

Touya is not dead. He just passed out from Shoto’s phosphor, woke up, and is currently still awake.

Yes, he’s in bad condition, but we’re not done with the Todoroki family arc yet, so I firmly believe Touya will survive and his endgame will be rehabilitation.

Please, calm down. Take deep breaths, drink water, take a relaxing shower, watch your favorite movie, read your favorite book, filter the spoilers, get offline, do whatever you can to cheer yourselves up ❤️
