Cleveland Guardians fun fact:
On national siblings day, both Bo and Josh Naylor, who are brothers and both play for the Guardians, both homered on the same game. They didn't know that it was national siblings day, but they were very happy to find out that they both hit home runs on that day. Well done, gentlemen!! Let's go Yankees!!!!!

you know what I love? Fallout trailers. in the style of New Vegas and Fallout 3 specifically. I keep thinking about hypothetical versions. I also love 76 using a song to indicate where its set. for example, if they were to set a Fallout game in New York: We see a radio flicker to life. It starts with that ink spots riff from "Maybe" and "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire", before transitioning to Frank Sinatra's big band playing the opening choards to New York, New York. The camera pans back. Its a portable transistor radio, on a seat next to a skeleton. It further pans outwards. The seat is a train bench, the trains itself of course wrecked in a station. A faint, scratchy "Stand clear of the closing doors" Echoes in the background. The camera pans further back, the station roof is collapsed in, allowing the camera to pan smoothly to the street, out over City Hall Park and the city hall itself, the background filling with tall buildings. It continues, following a road up and across the river until we finally stop with the Manhattan side tower of the Brooklyn bridge visible, part of one of its arches collapsed, and we linger on a shot of the lower Manhattan skyline. Call me, Bethesda

A Dialectical Critique of "Teenager in Love"
[Dion. Photo probably taken in the 1960’s. Source: Mancrushes.com] If you ask me, far too many words have been written about the hidden meanings and subtleties of Bertolt Brecht’s Mack the Knife or Pirate Jenny. Granted the Weimar Era in Germany (1918-1933) were pretty wacky times. But lyrics like: “You gentlemen can watch while I’m scrubbin’ the floors…”, are not all that existential. I love…

Because my dumb bitch ass binge watched CBS ghosts and ended up getting so into it, I made an ENTIRE SELF INSERT OC. (help me.) but now that I’m here on tumblr I might as well rant about said character to anyone interested 💔
His name is Elijah Anderson and he’s some 14 year old from 1999 who had been living in the Bronx before being abandoned on the property by his parents and dying of hypothermia 15 hours later. He’s elusive and has trust issues due to being abandoned by his parents and spent 25 years in the forest around the mansion hence why nobody is really aware of his presence except for Flower who has seen him a couple of times? But she’s kind of ditsy and not entirely there so she doesn’t really bring up/remember to mention him. The way the others probably find out about his presence is due to the fact that Flower was rambling and randomly mentioned “the kid in the woods.”
At first the other ghosts + Sam thought he was a human kid due to his lack of response to Flower’s presence (which wasn’t true, Flower would typically approach Elijah but he’d end up talking her out of being near him because of her short term memory)
But when it became apparent that Jay couldn’t perceive him, the others decided that this definitely was some ghost kid who had been on the property without the others knowing. So, the other ghosts would probably try some wild ass confrontation tactics on him which would probably just drive him away further from them (since he’s already very untrusting)
Eventually they were like “Pete getcho ass out there, you actually worked with children at some point” and even though Elijah was initially weary of him, Pete managed to get some sort of explanation (ex. Him hiding in the forest for so long) and long story short just came back to the mansion. (Got a bit lazy on this part, but it’s 2 am and I’m a sleep deprived 13 year old who doesn’t know how to write, bite me)
BUT…I did end up writing every single one of his relationships with the other characters so we’re gonna put that on here too 💔
Alberta: She’s surprisingly protective and almost motherly towards Elijah. She’s entertained by him poking fun at people (bonus points if directed at Isaac), and takes pride in his enjoyment of jazz music.
Pete: He’s probably the nicest to Elijah out of everyone. He’s very understanding of his trauma and helped him get more comfortable interacting with the others.
Trevor: They have a fairly strong bond with each other. Elijah is a bit disinterested in his whole “omg women” shtick, but they definitely pull pranks on the others together.
Hetty: She thinks Elijah is a bit abrasive and tries to avoid him mostly, which gave him the idea that she flat out doesn’t like him. This also makes her fall victim to a lot of his and Trevor’s antics.
Isaac: He’s an easy target to Elijah, and probably nothing more (because he’s gay and smelly 💔). However, I did think of an idea of Elijah being a closeted bisexual and turning to Isaac for advice.
Flower: Flower is pretty oblivious to his presence for the most part, even though she was the one who found him while she was frolicking outside. However, I don’t feel like Elijah would pick on her as much? Mainly since he thinks she’s really nice and doesn’t want to deal with Thor.
Thor: He’s definitely the most annoyed by this bitch ass child and would not think TWICE about throwing Elijah out the window. No silver lining, he’s just annoyed by this kid. He consistently also does this thing where he puts him on top of the fridge so he can’t get down unless he jumps off. The only thing I can see those two getting along about is watching bugs.
Sasappis: They probably just tolerate eachother. Sas occasionally will also partake in Trevor and Elijah’s pranks? But Elijah has too much damn respect for him to throw daggers at Sas (also because he knows that Sas knows how to insult people back and doesn’t want to risk that because he’s emotionally unstable)
Nigel: They’re cool with eachother? Like they both enjoy watching bugs (and they both like Spice Girls) but he also probably looks to Nigel for advice.
Nancy: Elijah is TERRIFIED of Nancy along with the other cholera ghosts. If homeboy had the choice between reliving freezing to death and going down into the boiler room, he’d choose death.
and to conclude here’s some extra headcanons about him because I have NOTHING but time.
-He’s constantly trembling uncontrollably as a side effect of being out in the cold for so long.
-His breath fogs up everywhere he goes
-Regardless of whether someone’s a ghost or not, just him being present is like “ayo did it get colder in here?”
-Any living that passes through him becomes inexplicably cold for a short period of time.
-He tends to communicate through ASL because he’s semiverbal anyways and his voice is permanently nasally.
-He is autistic and dyspraxic.
-He REALLY likes Garfield. Like he has encyclopedic knowledge on that damn cat.

So I have some questions regarding your silverusso Lead Us Not Into Temptation drabbles which live rent free in my head and which I am obsessed with. You say so much with saying so little, and I just ankdjsksns.
So: How did Terry and Daniel meet? Terry was a priest-in-training right? What made him interested in religious life? Why is being an altar-server so important to Daniel? Is it because he likes it, or because he's with Terry? I get the impression that Church/parish life is a big deal to Daniel and also his Mom. Why though? Kreese is so sinister in this, really in a less is more way. He says that priests aren't what they used to be, but something with Johnny apparently happened a long time ago (??) “The Lawrence incident happened when you were Parish Priest,” Silver says sharply, but Kreese remains unfazed.WHAT INCIDENT??? WHAT HAPPENED?? He also just laughs when Terry tells him he won't hurt Daniel. Damn Kreese. So is sexual abuse happening/has happened in this parish? Rosary beads click nearby—less like prayer, more like pincers of a terrible insect, Silver thinks. He watches how the candlelight hones Kreese’s weathered face into something foul. Amazing lines and imagery. So dark and sinister in such little words. how come Kreese is still at the parish if he did sexually abuse Johnny?
Why are Daniel and Terry so close? Why isn't Daniel's mom or anyone else concerned about the inappropriate relationship between Terry and Daniel? Why is Terry so into Daniel, and why not someone else? (not that i want that lol) Nothing has happened between them yet...right? What will happen?
Wow, thanks a lot, Anon for the kind words! You have some really great questions here with regards to this drabble set of mine. Definitely made me think!
Here we go! (Long under the cut)
How did Daniel and Terry meet?
After the death of Mr. LaRusso from liver cancer, eight year old Daniel and his Ma move from Reseda, California, to The Bronx, New York City for Lucille's new job.
The LaRusso's are very much on the lower end of the working-class, getting by on food stamps, social services—and later on, assistance from the Church. Their home in the Bronx isn't really the best place either to live or to raise a vulnerable little boy, and Lucille worries about this very much.
But there's not much she can do as a widowed woman with a simple factory job in the 1950s, later 1960s. So, staunch Roman Catholic that she was raised, she does what she always does, and moreso in times of trouble—she clings to the Lord. She clings to the Church.
Naturally, within two days of their arrival, she takes Daniel with her to do the rounds in their new neighborhood—and find a Church. They do fairly quickly; stumbling across a beautiful stone building with stained glass saints peering into the dirty street. Upon entering, Lucille kneels down to pray for the dearly departed soul of Mr. LaRusso, say a decade or two, and maybe go to Confession while she's there. She does not notice little Daniel slip away while the rosary beads slip through her fingers. He gets lost, and after wandering around a while, eventually finds a small, candlelit chapel. He's tired, he’s overwhelmed by everything—this new state, his new home, this new Church, and of course, the loss of his beloved father. He starts to cry and that's when young Terry—Seminarian Twig—stumbles upon him.
He hears the child first, and then sees, in the flickering candlelight, a tiny, miserable figure in patched overalls and old shoes. Twig takes a step towards the boy both in curiosity and in an attempt to comfort him, and then the child looks up—and Father in Heaven, those eyes. Tear filled; dark, long lashed and large. Reminding him of a fawn. He approaches him very slowly and the boy watches him, sniffling. Twig's shadow falls on the child even as he sits down beside him. He places a hand on his tiny shoulders.
“What is it, little one?" he asks softly, reaching in his cassock's pocket for a handkerchief to wipe the boy's face. "Why are you crying?"
The boy looks up, lets his face be wiped—and tells him.
A little while later, Lucille hears footsteps approaching, one pair evenly paced, the other half skipping, half walking. She turns around and sees her boy holding the hand of a very tall young man. A priest? A Seminarian? She begins to rise, but then Daniel runs up to her with a bright smile and a warm hug, and says, stumbling over his pronunciation and forgetting to keep his voice down, "Ma, Ma, this is Sin-narian Terry!"
And before she can gently scold him for running off, Terry steps forward and oh-so-charmingly and kindly introduces himself. Lucille finds herself rather warming to this young man who has, apparently, been so good to her little boy. She can't help but smile.
That’s the first mistake.
Terry was a priest-in-training right?  What made him interested in religious life?
Yes, he was a young Seminarian when he met eight year old Daniel, and already in possession of a Bachelors in Theology. He was, at that time, earning a Masters, and working towards becoming a Diocesan Priest (which he is currently when the drabbles take place).
Terry, then Twig, was the child of dirt-poor Irish immigrants who were staunchly Catholic. Just like Daniel, he spent hours in Church growing up, soon enough considering it a second home. As a child, he served as an altar-server, and later on the Church pianist; still later on lending his time as a Sunday School teacher, and an after school caretaker—being good with schoolwork and kids. He himself went to the connected Jesuit school on a scholarship where he was an excellent student, and took an interest in religious life, helped also by his deeply pious parents who encouraged him to think of a vocation.
I will say that Twig was more interested in the Theology, Doctrine, and history of the Church from a scholastic and intellectual viewpoint (being very brainy)—the religion part came rather second, though the idea of life after death and eternal-life was appealing. If he wasn’t raised so staunchly Roman Catholic, I feel he would be a deeply philosophical, and even spiritual, agnostic.
(It also helped that Twig never had any interest in girls whatsoever, Anon, so marriage never interested him.)
Why is being an altar-server so important to Daniel? Is it because he likes it, or because he's with Terry?
Daniel doesn’t have much going for him, Anon. He’s from a very poor family, he goes to a rundown public school where he’s bullied, sometimes, when he can’t make himself invisible enough—and he’s often alone, what with his Ma working such long hours for such little pay. There’s nothing much to keep him entertained, no one who really pays him attention, and cuddles and pets this sweetheart like he so craves. He is his Ma's light and joy, but she's bone tired almost always, and has very little energy left for her son.
Daniel does like attention; he enjoys being in the spotlight for reasons that aren’t associated with bullying, or his poverty. But he also is genuinely a sweet child with a kind heart, and loves to reach out and help where he can. He likes that he can do things at Church to help out, may it be gluing endless paper stars for the background of the children's nativity, or arranging the flowers in the sanctuary, or helping the First Communicants prepare for their First Holy Communion. It makes him feel needed. Necessary.
And Terry—excuse me, Father Silver—is someone who has always made room for Daniel from the start. Has never made Daniel feel like the outsider he is in most other places. One could say that Daniel feels most at home with Father Silver because he has made himself into this comforting—if powerful—presence. And well, Daniel simply loves being by his side, Anon. Loves being...wanted. It makes Daniel feel...well, good, knowing that the now Parish Priest still makes time in his busy schedule for seventeen year old boys who have nothing to offer him but themselves.
I get the impression that Church/parish life is a big deal to Daniel and also his Mom. Why though?
In difficult times, people often find something to cling to, to comfort them. For some, it is friends or family. Others, their work. Still others liquor, or drugs. For Daniel and his Ma, the Church and the Lord were there before them, and will remain long after. They are constant, a rock; unchanging, enduring, and eternal. After their lives changed so abruptly when the beloved Mr. LaRusso passed, Church and God still remained as immutable as ever. That's a comfort like nothing else. An anchor grounding them both.
But the Church, especially in those times, was and is so much more than just a place of prayer and worship! It’s a school, a place of socialization, community events and gatherings, baptisms, weddings, funerals. Picnics, get-togethers, community reach-out, a confidante, a place of help in times of need and trouble, a food pantry, a place of social-aid, religious education and tutoring, a place of music and concerts, travel (pilgrimages), gossip...etc.
Kreese is so sinister in this, really in a less is more way. He says that priests aren't what they used to be, but something with Johnny apparently happened a long time ago (??) “The Lawrence incident happened when you were Parish Priest,” Silver says sharply, but Kreese remains unfazed. WHAT INCIDENT??? WHAT HAPPENED??
I can't say for sure what the incident in question was, Anon. For all we know, it could have been a simple misunderstanding that escalated into something well-publicized between Father Kreese and Johnny Lawrence (who was a seventeen year old teenager at the time—the same age as Daniel is in the drabbles, oddly enough). It also, however, could have been something of the far more sinister variety—it might have been grooming, blatant sexual abuse. It might even have been that either Father Kreese or Johnny saw something the other was doing and took it the wrong way (or the right way!), and it ended up as quite the scandal when they told.
...I will say this though, Anon.
Johnny Lawrence is currently in jail. He will be for a long time. His life is over, pretty much. What did he do? I’m not sure. Is he innocent, wrongly accused? Is he the guilty party? Was he justified in what he did? Who can say? But something happened to make him turn out the way he is, and/or do what he did—I’m just not sure what that something is.
He also just laughs when Terry tells him he won't hurt Daniel. Damn Kreese.
Damn Kreese indeed, Anon.
So is sexual abuse happening/has happened in this parish?
I left this ambiguous on purpose, Anon. It’s up to you to draw your own conclusions.
Rosary beads click nearby—less like prayer, more like pincers of a terrible insect, Silver thinks. He watches how the candlelight hones Kreese’s weathered face into something foul. Amazing lines and imagery. So dark and sinister in such little words.
Thank you!
how come Kreese is still at the parish if he did sexually abuse Johnny?
But we don't know what Kreese did, Anon! Only he and Johnny know what really happened (though Terry knows a lot more than even Kreese suspects), and that was several decades ago, and now more of a lingering, hazy memory for their Parish. (And Johnny's in jail so he can't say anything, can he?) Father Kreese managed to find a way to stay on somehow. Though he was removed from his role of Parish Priest for "the incident", which ruined his ambitions of becoming Bishop, then Archbishop, leaving him a bitter man—though still smug that he still managed to stay at the Parish while Mr. Lawrence got the short end of the stick. Ha.
For all intents and purposes, Father Kreese is an elderly man now, and has been retired for a while. The Parish has half forgotten him…
Why are Daniel and Terry so close?
Perhaps it’s due to the fact that Daniel’s father passed away when he was so young that has had something to do with the way he’s latched onto Terry, Anon. Terry came into Daniel’s life when he was a child, vulnerable, sad—and lonely. It was easy to make such a lasting impression when the aforementioned things carved such deep holes into Daniel, and left those areas raw and exposed. Longing to be patched up and filled. At that time, Terry didn’t seek to do this deliberately and have the boy cling to him. It just...happened. Terry, and by extension, the Church, offered Daniel friendship, comfort. Attention. Affection. In the Church, Daniel found routine, stability. A home away from home, and somewhere that was warm and welcoming. In Terry, Daniel found a wonderful mixture of a father-figure, an older brother, a mentor, and also a friend. It would be odder if they weren’t close at this point, Anon.
Why isn't Daniel's mom or anyone else concerned about the inappropriate relationship between Terry and Daniel?
But...what exactly is inappropriate, Anon? That Father Silver—well-loved Parish Priest, charismatic, kind, brilliant, surely he can be a bishop, even a cardinal someday, and so handsome that some ladies think to themselves after Mass what a pity it is that he is celibate and cannot marry—has taken little Daniel under his wing? This poor boy with no father, and a mother who is more ill nowadays than not—yet who remains so adorable and precious. Little sunshine. What's happened except Father Silver being so kind and a comfort to the child; remaining a mentor and a friend? Teaching him, doting on him, advising him? A shining example of a man in this boy's life, especially during those turbulent teenage years when all boys need a father, a leader. A man. No, Lucille is so very grateful to have this excellent Priest take a shine to her sweet, fatherless boy.
...Though certainly Anon, the elderly of their Parish still remember the scandal between the now retired Father Kreese and that angry, violent blond boy, what was his name? James, Jamie or something. They never did know what exactly happened, but it was much talked about and publicized, those awful Protestants and godless atheists having a field day with their beloved Parish!!—and certain sour naysayers still wag their tongues either which way. But even the elderly cannot deny Father Silver's spotless reputation and charming demeanor. No, no; all they think when they see Father Silver and little LaRusso side by side is that all growing boys need a man like that in their lives!
(Father Kreese's opinion rather differs on the matter. Make of that what you will.)
Why is Terry so into Daniel, and why not someone else? (not that i want that lol)
Oh Twig, my Twiggy. He was never popular growing up; he was poor, plain (until he wasn't), socially awkward, and also a first generation Irish-American (a terrible combination for those times), and didn't have a friend to his name. A constant outsider. He therefore buried himself in his studies, in his music, in his Church life. He knew where he excelled, and being ambitious and proud, chose to develop his brain rather than his social life. He had acquaintances, not friends. He was close to no one, not even his parents, and who had both passed by the time he was nineteen. That was another reason he was drawn to the more solitary life of priesthood, as he was more or less used to being alone. That was also why he was drawn to Daniel LaRusso; another outsider, looked down on for being Italian, fatherless, poor, unambitious true—but dedicated, hardworking, and loyal. And so sweet it nearly hurt.
(And well, Daniel has always been almost painfully cute, but as of late, has turned into such a pretty little thing. Oh dear.)
Nothing has happened between them yet...right?
Unless you're counting Father Silver's lingering touches and Daniel's increasing confusion—then no.
What will happen?
Oh, Anon.
Anon.

SENT BY @nxnbinarydracvla…
end of the road
It’d been weeks since Bronx and Cyrek had their heart-to-heart and left the topics rather unfinished thanks to Mother Nature aka the triplets that decided to explode in sudden agitation as if to break away any other kind of tension that had formed between the gangster and his ex boss. Still, they were in the old truck together yet again as if things were normal, as if things had not changed, as if they had not talked in weeks after the younger one decided to give up on the gang for the time being.
     DEAD END.
The sign was bright red indicating that a cliff or loose rubble could cause problems if didn’t hit the brakes. He had been silent the whole way, not even daring to look to Cy because the oldest knew how to read him like a kindergarten book.
‘She’s not as good at bein’ alone like she makes out. And neither are you’. Bronx still remembered these words every day, specially after the first week or so away from the gang felt like release but soon enough he started to feel like drifting. There had been nothing to keep him in Anchorage aside of the strong friendships and jobs he had found, of course, but still, he couldn’t bring himself to leave, not even after googling bus tickets to the border or plane tickets to somewhere far away. He just could never complete the transaction.    DEAD END.    Ever felt like even the dumbest thing could bring you to tears? Dropping your pen, spilling a glass of water, tripping with the rug at the entrance: silly little things that tip the emotions just enough to trigger something.   He felt like this at seeing the sign. But he held it back bravely and held a sigh back as well.
“Not like I doubt your genius or anything bo— Cy, but… you sure this is the correct road? If this is gonna be our new kissing place I don’t mind much but yeah, being in a vehicle kinda stuck gives me some Valentine’s Day blackout vibes, so if we could pick somewhere else to make out, that’d be peach”.

Episode 182 : The People's Music
"I never did a dance for a dollar..."
- Buckshot
This month we don't shift into high gear in terms of tempo at any point, topping out at around 90, so those of you experiencing actual summer don't overheat! We've got some absolutely fire new releases in the mix alongside some versions that you might never have heard, plus some deep album cuts. We start things off with just such a track - if you don't own the album, I'd be willing to bet you've never heard it...never let it be said this is a show that leans on the obvious records!
Still a few tickets left to see Phat Kat at The Hip Hop Chip Shop on August 4th, plus me playing a special Detroit warmup set!

Playlist/Notes
Above The Law ft. Kokane : Rain Be For Rain Bo
RIP KMG, who passed away twelve years ago this month. In a season where we maybe haven't had the sunshine we expected, this seemed like an appropriate choice - a downtempo but funky piece from the well-respected LP "Uncle Sam's Curse", Above The Law's third. Cold 187um not only produced the track but also provides the scene-setting first verse, while his cousin Kokane is on the hook, and KMG's second verse builds on the perfect setup. A lot of people were not ready to digest this LP fully when it came out, but if you have time to take a front-to-back listen, especially if you appreciate the West Coast sound, then do - you'll be rewarded.
Tavaras Jordan : Change, Pt. 2 (The Last Thing)
A beautifully smooth instrumental from this talented Hip-Hop and R&B producer out of North Carolina, taken from his short - but very sweet - 2019 "Manifest Destiny" album. Anything with this man's name on is worth a listen!
GZA : Animal Planet
The streets are a jungle, and nature is gangster. Another in GZA's series of themed tracks that started with "Labels" on "Liquid Swords", this grand-sounding Bink and Tyquan Walker-produced cut from "Legend Of The Liquid Sword" allows the Genius to demonstrate once again how he can build a concept track like few others.
Jay-Z ft. Damian Marley : Bam
One of my good friends always plays this track before job interviews, because these people have to "know who they F'in with", to quote Jay-Z! This collaboration with Damian Marley from the "4:44" LP is one of my personal highlights of that release, and the producer No I.D. goes straight to a reggae classic to provide the raw material, the mighty "Bam Bam" by Sister Nancy.
Black Moon : General Feva
The "Rise Of Da Moon" album, Black Moon's first after a sixteen-year layoff, seemed to go under-appreciated by many, but I for one was very pleased to see the Brooklyn legends release that LP in 2019. Da Beatminerz on production of course, for some slow, loping boom-bap that is a little dark for summer perhaps, but perfect for this slide towards some sandpaper-type roughness.
Cut Beetlez x Bronx Slang : I'm Not Chillin
If the last track was raw, this is the cow still wandering around in the field! Finland's Cut Beetlez production team linked up with the always-NY Bronx Slang for a brand new EP, from which this is the title cut. As soon as Jerry Beeks told me it was out I had it in my headphones and even after repeated listens, I knew this was the track to go with right here! The sonics snarl, thump, and grind, and yet you can hear every word from the MCs, who just seem to keep getting better with time and can give you the business regardless of the pace of the track.
[J-Zone] Al-Shid : Fight Club (Instrumental)
He may be a full-time and high-quality drummer now, but I'll always remember the originality J-Zone brought to Hip-Hop production for so many years. There's no-one who sounded quite like him, and this instrumental of a track from Al-Shid's debut single is a great example - some might say quirky, but in terms of quality, very serious.
Conductor Williams & Boldy James : Flying Trapeze Act
Too many people think that street rap and lyrical creativity can't go together, but this song from the "Across The Tracks" LP by Kansas City producer Conductor Williams and Detroit's Boldy James, thankfully still with us after a serious accident, have both in spades. The Conductor's track clearly treats its original sample in a pretty extreme fashion (you can hear the warbling which the processing likely introduced) but then adds the subtlest of kick-snare to quietly drive it along, and the vocals left in just add extra soulful flavour beneath Boldy's voice. As he moves between straight description, metaphor, and simile - especially the last punchy one in the hook that gives the track its title - Boldy James puts in excellent work.
El Michels Affair ft. Raekwon : The PJs (Instrumental/Vocal)
I needed to lead with the instrumental just to provide a nice bridge in, but it's always a pleasure to hear the brilliant El Michels Affair play! This is a re-recording of the track "The PJs" from Pete Rock's 2008 LP "NY's Finest" - no Masta Killa this time, but Raekwon returns to do his verses over with some small changes. El Michels Affair, in turn, base their instrumental performance around the way Pete Rock worked the original sample, but with some subtle flourishes. "The PJs...From Afar" is a 12" single well worth adding to your collection.
Da Beatminerz ft. Black Moon : Anti
Black Moon again, because why not? This time we go with their appearance on the new Da Beatminerz project "Stifled Creativity" (bearing in mind that Evil Dee of Da Beatminerz is also an actual member of the group) for one of the highlights of the LP. Over a slow, reflective, almost funereal take on the groove best known from Souls of Mischief's "93 'Til Infinity", Buckshot speaks on his journey as an independent artist and label owner (Duck Down) in a straightforward manner while maintaining that trademark flow. To maintain a thirty-plus year independent career through the changes in the industry is quite a feat - salute.
O.C. : This Is Me
This is a track I've always enjoyed, but which I think escaped a lot of people's notice. A selection from the overlooked "Smoke And Mirrors" LP, O.C.'s fifth, it's a track where he speaks on his career-long determination to follow his own path and ignore the trends - in fact, it's spiritually very close to the Beatminerz/Black Moon track that precedes it here. Mike Loe takes a late-70s soul sample, turns the speed up a touch and provides an excellent musical backdrop for the lyrics.
MF DOOM : Dead Bent (Original 12" Instrumental)
If you know the "Operation Doomsday" LP but not this, it would sound like an overstatement to say that the version of "Dead Bent" on the album is a "refined" version of anything, as rough-and-ready as the whole release is, but you can hear that this original is even more beautifully unpolished. Self-produced by the late great DOOM, you can find this not only on the original 12" mentioned in the title, but also on some later reissued versions of the album, containing alternate versions, B-sides, and instrumentals - essential for the DOOM fan.
Dubbul O & Cutterz : Stay Gold
Stellar new release out of Manchester, with this familiar duo (and half of Voodoo Black) headlining their new "Stay Gold" EP with this title track. If you've lost someone close, this one will hit you hard, with Dubbul O's deeply personal lyrics coming through strong over Cutterz' production which is somehow both optimistic and moody at the same time. Definitely check for that five-track EP.
Mecca:83, Phat Kat, and Guilty Simpson : Don't Stop
Exclusive! *Sounds airhorn* Manchester's own Mecca:83 blessed me with a copy of this as-yet unreleased track, with his warm and bumping production backing up two giants of the Detroit scene, Phat Kat and Guilty Simpson. Two cities famous for their industries come together for a great musical union!
Dilated People : The Main Event
I'll be honest - of the three tracks on the classic underground "Work The Angles" 12" single, this is the one I play the least, but the Alchemist-produced middle track on the release (also on 2000's "The Platform" LP) definitely deserves respect. Rakaa Iriscience steps all the way back here and makes space for Evidence to get busy on both verses. The samples of some of the Hip-Hop greats for the hook rounds off the whole package nicely.
Nas & Statik Selektah : Dead Presidence
(That's not my spelling, it's what they printed on the labels of "The Prophecy EP"!) Jay-Z and Ski famously sampled the "presidents that represent me" line from Nas' "The World Is Yours" for "Dead Presidents" on the classic "Reasonable Doubt", but on this track Statik Selektah reverses the game and blends the vocals from the Nas track with Ski's instrumental, and while the original is a flawless cut, these two pieces do fit together beautifully as well.
Marco Polo : Ps & Qs (Remix Instrumental)
MPC magic from Marco Polo, from his entry in the "Baker's Dozen" producer series, with clean drums, a live-sounding bass, and guitar licks placed to perfection.
Camp Lo ft. Jungle Brown : Hold On
I've always loved the way this track ends, and as such thought it needed to be played in a position where that portion can be heard uninterrupted. It's not just the closing track here but also the finisher on the 2009 "Stone And Rob : Caught On Tape" album. Jungle Brown is one of the few MCs to make repeated features with the Lo, and he does his thing alongside the legendary Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede while also co-producing it with Apple Juice Kid. If you're a fan of the group, definitely seek out this release as there are some absolute heaters on there, including the back-to-back of "On Smash" and "89 of Crime".
Please remember to support the artists you like! The purpose of putting the podcast out and providing the full tracklist is to try and give some light, so do use the songs on each episode as a starting point to search out more material. If you have Spotify in your country it's a great way to explore, but otherwise there's always Youtube and the like. Seeing your favourite artists live is the best way to put money in their pockets, and buy the vinyl/CDs/downloads of the stuff you like the most!

9 June, BOS @ NYY, 3-2, Win
This is going to come as a shock to all of you readers out there, but I fucking love beating the Yankees in the Bronx. There’s nothing quite like it in the universe (though I’m hoping the start Betelgeuse goes supernova in my lifetime, because in terms of cool unique things in the universe, a visible supernova, though nothing to do with baseball, would be amazing to witness... if it were to happen and coincide with the Sox kicking the shit out of the Yankees in the Bronx, all the better). For it to come in the first game of a series that follows a string of incredibly “meh” series from the Sox is that much better. There were some oddities - Masa Yoshida didn’t have a hit and neither did Adam Duvall on his first game back from the IL (that o-fer night dropped his average to .417 and OPS to 1.432... LOL). Did we make an error? Yes (A rare Connor Wong error). One of those Yankees runs was unearned. Our fielding isn’t the greatest in the world, tbh. Which makes me sad. I miss 2010, with Pedey at 2nd before he broke his foot, Youk at first and the mighty Adrian Beltre at third. We didn’t have a whole bunch of errors that summer. But that was thirteen years ago and while I like a reminisce as much as the next guy, it doesn’t really lend itself to, you know, moving forward. Let’s focus on the now. And right now I like to feel I totally called Raffy’s dinger last night in that I said he was due, and almost as though he heard me, he totally hit a dinger in the sixth. But I’m getting ahead of myself. There are plenty of bright sides and though I am chuffed I predicted Raffy hitting a dinger sometime in the near future, it’s not really the point of all of us being here.
Whitlock had a solid start. He scattered 7 hits over six and a third, struck out six and walked one. He gave up a dinger. It happens. And another run scored on his watch but it wasn’t his fault (and the other run was technically under Pivetta’s watch but because the runner was Whitlock’s... nevermind, you folks understand how baseball works). It wasn’t a groundbreaking start but it was solid and to be honest, I want all the solid starts I can get.
The bullpen allowed one inherited runner to score but that was it. Jansen allowed two hits, giving Red Sox fans all over the world aneurysms, but he didn’t let it get to him and got the save.
Raffy Devers went two for four with a dinger and two runs scored. Really hope this is the beginning of him doing this shit all the time like we all know he’s capable of.
Kiké Hernandez, dropped to ninth in the lineup, hit a dinger that turned out to be the game winner. Thanks Kiké. And thank you for keeping frosted tips alive. You don’t get enough credit for that.
Tristan Casas went 2-for-3 and knocked in the only non-dinger run the Sox had last night. His average continues to creep upwards.
Dugie had a couple of hits as did Justin Turner.
We won!
We beat the Yankees when we did that winning!
We no longer have a losing record!
The Rays and Toronto both lost too!
This is as good a time as any to begin the climb out of the cellar!

"Mean Streets" by Don Mitchell explores capitalism, private property, and homelessness | Boing Boing
The increasing number of unhoused people across the United States is a health and social crisis. As rents soar, interest rates rise, and global private equity firms scoop up properties to maximize profits, more people live in precarious conditions, often exposed to dangerous climate and human elements. One person's debt and suffering are often another's asset and profit-maker.
In New York City especially, but in major urban areas across the US, private buildings that their owners abandoned during the 1970s and 1980s – and often set afire for insurance fraud – were often re-occupied by people needing housing.

"Developed in collaboration with tenant organizations from across the city, We Won't Move: Tenants Organize in NYC explores the city's rich history of tenant struggle, including neighborhood resistance to urban renewal in the South Bronx, de-segregation struggles at Stuyvesant Town and in Brooklyn, rent strikes in Harlem and Bedford-Stuyvesant, the coordinated takeover of vacant housing during Operation Move-In, and repeated campaigns to renew and strengthen the rent laws."
Published in an English/Spanish bilingual edition that includes a directory of tenant services and resources, archival photographs, and the ever-useful reading tool, a glossary of terms.
"The mission of Interference Archive is to explore the relationship between cultural production and social movements. This work manifests in an open stacks archival collection, publications, a study center, and public programs including exhibitions, workshops, talks, and screenings, all of which encourage critical and creative engagement with the rich history of social movements."

As long as public education, housing, health care, transportation, water, and food are commodities and not human rights, unhoused populations will continue to characterize capitalist societies organized around a myth of meritocracy, violent and greedy competition, accumulation through dispossession, dominion over the earth and her resources, and hierarchies of human worth. The root cause of homelessness and the increasing unhoused population is how USian society is organized economically; it is not the fault of people who do not have a place to live. When reporters, writers, artists, and others cease to ignore the role capitalism plays in conditioning homelessness, perhaps a different meaning and naming of the cause can consequence a different response.
