While the SYD release principally featured studio demos, the 28 tracks presented here are the aural and enchanting equivalent of a time machine that vividly thrusts the listener straight back to Husker Du's embryonic unsheathing on stage ↯

Sticker issued by U.S. label Rykodisc promoting a single from Sugar’s 1994 album, File Under: Easy Listening.

This was the big new album at Rykodisc when I joined the company as an intern in fall 1994. Capitalizing on the success of Sugar’s first album, Copper Blue, the label went all-out in promoting the next album proper (unless you count the intervening Beaster mini-LP.)

While I believe I jettisoned my promotional Sugar shorts some time ago, I did hang on to a few of these colorful, infinitely-more-storable stickers.

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you my absolute hero.

Bob Mould is a musical genius, an incredible songwriter, and the reason why I picked up a guitar and starting writing songs myself. Whether it be through his solo work, the albums he made with Sugar, or the groundbreaking and visceral records he recorded with the legendary Husker Du, there has been no better masterclass for the music Ive wanted to make than the one taught by Bob Mould.

Musically, he has meant everything in the world to me, and there’s not much else I can say other than that.

This is a cool little PROMO E.P. from around the time of Workbook. It features the song “Wishing Well”, along with four incredibly intense live performances that were recorded at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro in 1989, the most savage being “Brasilia Crossed With Trenton”, which puts Bob’s genius guitar playing front and center.

There’s also a really great cover of Richard and Linda Thompson’s “Shoot Out The Lights”; a song that will rear its head on this blog again very soon.

There’s not many Bob Mould related things I don’t own on vinyl, and this one is a lovely little side oddity.

HÜSKER DÜ - Everything Falls Apart (Reflex Records 1983) ↯ This album is one of my absolute favorite albums ever! After some singles and the live album Land Speed ​​Record, the debut-studio album Everything Falls Apart feature 12 songs in 19:22 minutes and proves that Hüsker Dü can rightly be classified as punk/hardcore. But that's only partly true. Tracks like Bricklayer, Afraid Of Being Wrong or From The Gut are clearly influenced by US-80'-hardcore sound but the title song or the Donovan cover Sunshine Superman (which punk band does Donovan covers?) already showed the real potential of this band. The album was re-released on compact disc in 1993 as Everything Falls Apart And More, with bonus tracks including the band's first two singles, the full 8 minute version of Statues and the unreleased track Do You Remember. The reissue also includes extensive liner notes by Reflex Records co-founder and HüDü-soundman Terry Katzman. On June 18, 2017, a remastered version of the original album was released digitally by the Chicago reissues label The Numero Group ↯
