Goebbels diary extracts in which he mentions his children:
January 5, 1937
Our children are lovely and kind. We play in their room upstairs.
January 14, 1937
Telephoned with Magda. She is very happy and is recovering well.
January 16, 1937
Telephoned with Magda: she is a little better. She is always so kind and good to me.
January 23, 1937
Telephoned with Magda: everything is fine on the mountains. They come back tonight. And how I look forward to it! Indescribable! To be so alone is anything but nice.
January 25, 1937
Yesterday: Played with the children again after a long time. Wonderfully sweet.
February 3, 1937
Magda has to go with her baby to hospital to Stockel because of heart problems. But improves during the day. Stockel calms me down.
February 7, 1937
Magda doesn’t get any better. The poor one always has new heart attacks. I am very worried about her. Stockel calms me down.
February 9, 1937
Thank God Magda is better. She no longer has a heart attack.
February 15, 1937
I play with the children in the afternoon. All of them are indescribably sweet and lovely, I am so happy when I have these little creatures around me in the evening.
February 22, 1937
Visited Magda in hospital with the Führer. Magda overjoyed. Führer exceptionally nice.
February 23, 1937
Mountains of congratulations for Magda and me because of Holde. Magda is fine, thank God. Film "Victims of the Past" with our children as the end. The three of them look very nice. Helga is already like a real mother. Was with Magda. Well, this joy!
March 8, 1937
Yesterday: Played with the kids.
April 2, 1937
Ride through the Grunewald with Magda and the children. The children are sweet creations of God, full of beauty and grace, gifts from heaven. Read, write at home. Chatted with Magda. Spent such an evening at home. It is also wonderfully good.
April 4, 1937
Little Holde is not doing well at all. Hopefully not pneumonia. Magda is very sad. We have a lot of concern with the little child. It is so helpless and looks very grave and frightened. I work not to get melancholy thoughts.
(...)
In the afternoon I drove to Schwanenwerder with the children. There selected wallpapers and such. Helga and Hilde read fairy tales. Those of Brothers Grimm are so lovely.
(...)
Watched films in the evening... How easily the Americans make such a thing. One can only admire this. Helga is very enthusiastic, it is her favourite and it cracks her up.
(...)
Holde is feeling a little better in the evening. We are very concerned about her.
April 13, 1937
Played with the kids and visited Mum in the garden. They all have a blossoming imagination. Helga in particular is tireless inventing concepts and ideas.
April 20, 1937
Magda was there with the children. Helga was everyone’s favorite and caused general delight. My speech for the Führer’s birthday was transmitted in all channels.
April 29, 1937
So good with Magda! She is so nice and kind to me. The children make us extremely happy. Out to Bogensee. A wonderful spring day with sun and magnificence.
May 15, 1937
Yesterday: Helga and Hilde are busy riding the new pony. Such a lovely picture! Magda doesn’t look good. Stoeckl says she has to leave for 4 weeks to rest.
May 29, 1937
Worked at home in Schwanenwerder. Magda is not doing well. She has an endless tooth pain. Played with Helga and Hilde. Such a sweet thing!
June 2, 1937
After Schwanenwerder. Chatted with Magda, the children and Mrs. Bormann.
June 22, 1937
After Schwanenwerder. The second pony has arrived. A cute little animal! Just like the first one. The children cheer. We'll take a wonderful ride together in pairs. It is a pleasure. Helga is so cute to me. We haven't seen each other for a long time. I was really longing for the children.
June 25, 1937
With the children. Helga goes sick. I feel so sorry for her. Meet Magda again. We are all very happy. It is so rejoicing. She looks brilliant. I love her like in the beginning. She is my best and most loyal comrade.
(…)
Return flight to Berlin. Farewell to Magda. The children stay with her. They are so sweet and good.
June 27, 1937
Yesterday: finally slept in. On the phone with Magda. She is fine, the children too. She will come back to Berlin on Tuesday.
July 3, 1937
Work in Schwanenwerder. Chatted with Magda. Then riding with the children, work, packing. Führer calls: he wants to visit us [!] Schwanenwerder. I'm going back with the kids. We spend a wonderful afternoon outside with the Führer. He is very nice to us and very open-minded.
July 10, 1937
Yesterday: [...] afternoon went to the Obersalzberg with the children and cone (?). A smooth flight. Even Helga endures it. From Ainring over the wonderful new Alpine road to Obersalzberg. An indescribable panorama. Magda is also on board. She is very enthusiastic. The Führer is already waiting for us at the stairs. He is very happy that we are there. Helga and Hilde are allowed to eat with us at the big table and behave like ladies.
July 13, 1937
Yesterday: Helga has an angina. Poor little thing! I read stories to her. Otherwise work at noon.
(…)
Then goodbye. Another look at Helga, who is lying quietly and peacefully in her bed. She is a sweet thing. Magda is very nice. They all stay up.
July 15, 1937
Yesterday: stayed long in bed. Still ill. But the doctor noticed a significant improvement. I have to be much more careful with my health. Magda calls: Everything is fine on the mountain. However, Helga is still lying.
July 21, 1937
Yesterday: played with the children in the morning.
August 14, 1937
Magnificent photos from Röhr for the illustrated newspapers. Especially Magda and the children.
September 10, 1937
Our little Helmut has broken his leg. The poor boy was taken to Sauerbruch to put a splint on.
September 26, 1937
The Führer shows Mussolini the art exhibition. Then I accompany both through the crowd of artists, a festive moment for everyone. He knows many and greets them. He asked Magda about the children and Helga. Then I have the opportunity to speak to him in great detail. He is very open-minded.
September 30, 1937
Yesterday: The children have been to Mussolini. He hugs and kisses them. He is very proud. Helga says: "The other Führer is also very nice." Children's mouth!
October 6, 1937
Yesterday: Left early from Schwanenwerder. Magda and the children are so lovely.
November 2, 1937
After to Schwanenwerder for Harald's birthday. I give him a new motorcycle. He is overjoyed. His young flame Kathe is also there. She makes a very nice and good impression. Helga and Hilde romp around in the area. Very sweet and lovely.
December 15, 1937
With Magda and the children for Christmas coffee in the Victoria garden with the old party members. Dear old memories!
December 21, 1937
Yesterday: leave Schwanenwerder early. All snow. Magda and the children wave.
December 28, 1937
Yesterday: get back to work early. I'm a little sick. Hard winter outside! Magda and the children are fine.

In the fall of 1943, a young man who worked as a chimney sweep on the island of Schwanenwerder also found Dr. Goebbels swept a narrow film in the boiler room of the Goebbels house that was intended to be burned. He secretly took this film and kept it until the end of the war. Only now, 81 years later, has this film resurfaced.
Harald also appears in the film, which is wonderful to see!

yoseph, i oughtta lock you back up in the musty leather-bound book where you belong. slam the cover. over and over. raise the dust.
instead, i play you a simulation of old records. we have: clothy sky. smoke. coffee. a photo-booth strip of your face. scotch-sharp cologne. my skirts flutter, apace, and my step stutters, whenever, i hear an inhale in the song.
you are tender as a bruise; those furtive glances you give me up through the prose, as though i won’t notice–subtle as when you first sank your fine filthy hands into my music box and twisted. in this rat trap of a west german town i count back down to berlin. i lean on a light post and yearn to light up while above and beyond me a big steely benz logo catches the sun twice per rotation. my vision flickers as i chew on my cheeks. i see you sitting at the edge of my brain. doktor gee, how you blunt my appetite. how you pin me to the page for weeks, rend and reduce me, drag me around by the brainstem and jerk me back hard when i stray. i think, if i send it all out on the wire, how could it possibly not reach you. in low light you haunt my collar; the sensation is the sound of the wind in crusted leaves.
why won't you follow me all the way into sleep. i leave a ribbon-pull for you on the outside of my eyelids but you rarely show–what is it, joe? the way i refuse you during daylight?
lover, it’s just this little town—you know, people talk.
a breeze picks up the lace around my throat. i laugh at you like a black-and-white lipstick model on subway poster walls.
awaiting a train, i check my nails and mythologize. i think of you whenever i spot one of these slinky hobbling deutscher crows lumping around on the tracks. thick as black as crude probably, the way your hair feels like in the valley between fingers. felt.
it’s freezing in this bombed out church.
berlin; the beat of it gets hold of my pulse, will never let go. i smolder through the city, a black-eyed azteca princess–-pea-coat, pencil, skirt, always keeping a lookout for you—peering into every shop window with squinted senses.
you always seem to be behind me. impossibly.
spy-like, i press you deeper into my ear while slinking through the brandenburg gate. my chill-flushed cheeks are edged with tulle; through the veil it’s easier to see the things that are there: tachyon. cataclysm.
i stand where you stood and you go up my spine like a g-sharp minor scale, like a crab-walking spider; god, time does not bend that way you lunatic; god, herr doktor your growl is like ink diffusing in water.
dressed up real pretty for your war, i walk a narrow trail to the victory column. the faster the earth spins the more you flicker up in my path. i cross heel over heel while negotiating cobblestone, dip my head, smile through my lashes; i’m gonna give you the burial you never had.
in the distance – time not space – your steamroller trill shudders the wannsee. i go alone into the snow, into the night where you undergird my 120 beats-per like an impatiently tapping baton and oh but i hear you, in every spray of lilac light spilled across the dance floor. you deign to waver right in front of my face when the drugs are just right.
at the crest of summer you roll through me like a wash of humid song. i cluck, calves-up, along vossstrasse just like la lida used to do. the girl you hated so much it de-blooded you. i return to the remains of the ministry building. feels like gridlock. the glare from your missing windows is blinding.
at least you’ve got free reign inside your city if not over it, huh? at least there’s that. i get this sudden urge to beat my palms against the exterior stone wall.
in gushing rain i am stranded at your villa on the bogensee. i lie low on the covered veranda’s wall, conjuring gravel and grass—against posted warnings, i tap on your glass. i look you in the face. i bare my foamy teeth.
this miraculous trail that you left written down for me. well guess what i found you. followed you straight to this stranger, slicker side of me and now here i am, accounting for your every edge and angle, writing down your something-dead-fruit-soft as well. can you see? from there? my covert glances at certain clouds or the way specific breezes shudder me?
i feel like you know what you’re doing. like we’re really getting our footing.
and i will dig my heels and nails so deep into the pavement of this town, thick as red as devil flesh i swear i’m gonna die where you died.
but for tonight i will twist into peaks while you heat the space behind my ears, like an invasion. love always, your lithivia oblivia

From Sex Mansion to Vegan Commune: New Lease of Life for Ex-Nazi Propaganda Chief's Hideaway
From Sex Mansion to Vegan Commune: New Lease of Life for Ex-Nazi Propaganda Chief’s Hideaway
Notorious Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels had a lush piece of land donated to him for private purposes on the Bogensee back in 1936; there, he had a private and secluded refuge built to cater to his whims. A secluded retreat that was once in the possession of Reich Minister of Propaganda of Nazi Germany Joseph Goebbels is to be given a new lease of life. The venue that offered a…

… even for people who did them all :-))
In the last years I was kind of busy exploring hikeable areas in Berlin and Brandenburg. Here is a list of most of my hikes in Berlin and Brandenburg including a rough evaluation of the public transport possibilities to get there. Behind every link you’ll find pictures and most of the time a short description including a map of the trail I took.
As always, most of the links include maps which I recorded during my hikes. As I change direction spontaneously—based on weather, on an attractive area I spotted, on my mood or on the fact that it gets dark quickly—I recommend to explore the areas with openness to hike another trail or change the direction whenever you like to. I recommend the landscapes, not necessarily the exact trail I took. Don’t forget to use maps and GPS :-). I highly recommend MapOut offline maps.
……………………………………
How to read the charts:
Location and month:
I noted the month in which I hiked because every landscape looks different with the seasons. For some of them you can have an impression of another weather and therefore another atmosphere of the trail and scenery.
Public Transport Rating:
I always looked up from Berlin Central Station/Hauptbahnhof. This is what set rating means:
★★ = It’s easy and even better to get there by public transport than by car ★☆ = It’s already more complicated to get there by public transport, sometimes you have to walk for a while      to reach the trail, sometimes you have to change trains for more than 3 times ☆☆ = You can go everywhere by public transport, but in this case you’ll spend really a lot of time and it’s very complicated to get there
Please use Open Street Map with public transport layer to get a visual impression where you want to go and where you have to get out of the train/bus/tram. And look up on BVG.de how long it will take you to go there.
Favorite:
❤️ = The hikes marked with a heart are my personal favorites. Great lake, picturesque villages or cultural sites to see, or just a very divers hike. This doesn’t mean, that the other hikes aren’t worth while. I just liked them more. Hikes I didn’t like at all are not listed here.
