Normally I want to try and use new Pokémon in my game playthroughs, a goal I fail often because if I’m offered a Ralts/Cacnea/Pawniard on an early route I will snatch them up, but I’ve gotten a pre-owned copy of X and I am changing this entirely.

I have used the Pawniard line in four games, spanning three generations. I now aim to use a Pawniard in every generation available. Which is all of them.

I like this Pokemon a normal amount.

all righty, it's Monday, and i'm glad i checked the file of the game i wanted to reset over this, HOO! if i lost an entire living dex...

so, what's the hope for the rest of the year, shiny hunting ways? well, to go back to the point i made back in my first post this year, my whole end goal is to use shiny pokemon in a team. the Odd Egg in Crystal is a nice unique opportunity, but there's one more idea that's more classic, and something i thought i wouldn't really want to do, based on something i was wrong about.

if i can mention a method of shiny hunting i dread, it's hatching eggs. if i can avoid that, at all costs, i will prefer that. i don't care about the Masuda method, i just want to avoid hatching eggs. this puts starters, in particular, Mudkip, in a weird spot, or so i thought for the longest time. Emerald's clock battery died, and i had thought starters started getting shiny locked in gen 6.

i don't know how i thought that. after shiny hunting last year, i learned that that got started in gen 8. not 7, and certainly not 6! so, Alpha Sapphire for a shiny Mudkip, simple enough.

except, i won't stop there. i want a full shiny team. the Hoenn remakes has a system called hidden Pokemon, which spawns an encounter in the area of play. encounter enough hidden pokemon, in total and/or in a row, and the odds of finding one of those encounters as a shiny will get boosted. it should help expedite the other five i want.

i don't really want to spoil which ones i want on the team though, though member number 2 is right around the corner already. first 'mon first, shiny Mudkip. in the time it took for testing and writing this up, that's already 20 rolls. i can save right in front of the bag, and with soft resetting being easier here than HeartGold, it's gonna feel faster than 2022's Ho-oh, and that was in about 1800 attempts. it's probably gonna be the only one i'll be finding at full 1 in 4096 odds, so it's gonna be a fun high.

untl i actually get it, i think i'll just check in weekly to count encounters. keeping it to the Mondays, i suppose.
