Hello everyone, welcome to the start of a new week and the knowledge that the LOOOOOOONGEST month of the year is nearly over! 😂 Here’s a book haul 😜 Gwendy’s Magic Feather is the second book in the Button Box trilogy and although the first and third are written by Stephen King, in Magic Feather he has bowed out and instead writes the foreword. The story is however set in King’s fictional area of Castle Rock in Maine, “a sleepy little town built on a bedrock of deep, dark secrets, which is about to awaken from its quiet slumber once more.” Next up, another book to add to my #britishlibrarytalesoftheweird collection. Heavy Weather promises stories “from the flood myths of Babylon, the Mahabharata and the Bible, to 20th century psychological storms, this foray into troubled waters, heat waves, severe winters, hurricanes, and hailstones offers the perfect read on a rainy day or night.” Finally, we have Lemon, a gorgeous little book translated by Janet Hong, which I’ve had on my radar for some time now. “In the summer of 2002, when Korea is abuzz over hosting the FIFA World Cup, nineteen year old Kim Hae-on is killed in what becomes known as the High School Beauty Murder. But finding the perpetrator is not the main objective here. Instead, the work explores grief and trauma, raising important questions about guilt, retribution, and the meaning of death and life.” I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors, especially if you’ve read or want to read them. Have I tempted you? Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a lovely week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagramuk #ohlookmorebooks #booksgloriousbooks #anotherbookhaul #gwendysmagicfeather #stephenking #castlerock #richardchizmar #heavyweathertempestuoustalesofstrangerclimes #kevanmanwaring #lemon #readingtranslatedliterature #kwonyeosun #koreanfiction #janethong #newbookspleaseandthankyou https://www.instagram.com/p/CnxNroULEFW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Star-Touched Queen is beautiful. I love pretty covers. The official snyopsis: * Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen? Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire… But Akaran has its own secrets—thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most…including herself * Basically. I can't wait to read this!! I love books set in non-western type settings. #startouchedqueen #roshanichoksi #bookstagram #boomerangbooks #stmartinsgriffin #reading #booksgloriousbooks #bookworm

Hi everyone and hope you’re doing really well. Things are not great here in the house of migraine so I’ve chosen an easy haul post for tonight that I’ve managed to write when painkillers have kicked in. Firstly, the wonderful Alison Weir who I can’t speak highly enough of if you like historical fiction or nonfiction. One of her specialties is the Tudor era and this book is the real story of the six Tudor queens “by those who loved and served these women and those who lied and betrayed them.” Weird Woods is another addition to my #britishlibrarytalesoftheweird collection. “Lining the path through the realm of folklore and fear are twelve stories from across Britain, telling tales of whispering voices and maddening sights from deep in the Yorkshire Dales to the ancient hills of Gwent and the eerie quiet of the forests of Dartmoor.” 😱 Finally, a bit of a cult classic that I can’t believe I have yet to read! I actually own this on my Kindle but couldn’t resist this gorgeous paperback edition. Something Wicked This Way Comes follows “two boys trembling on the brink of manhood who set out to explore the mysteries of the dark carnival’s smoke, maze and mirrors, they will also discover the true price of innermost wishes…” As always, I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagramuk #scottishbookstagrammer #ohlookmorebooks #alisonweirbooks #intheshadowofthequeens #talesfromthetudorcourt #historicalfictionlove #weirdwoodstalesfromthehauntedforestsofbritain #johnmiller #raybradburybooks #somethingwickedthiswaycomes #booksimexcitedtoread #booksgloriousbooks📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/CovA1SeL1xI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday to you! Today I’ll have two posts on the grid and this one is a haul of three hardbacks I was “made” to buy ummm by myself 😏 Otherlands caught my eye for the stunning cover (I’m such a magpie) but the contents inside sound pretty great. This is a nonfiction book and an “epic, exhilarating journey into deep time, showing us the Earth as it used to exist, and the worlds that were here before ours.” The scientist in me is saying YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU! 😂 Now I already have a paperback copy of Fingersmith, one of my favourite books by one of my favourite authors but of course once the 20th anniversary edition had been released, I needed it. If you haven’t read it and are a fan of historical fiction and surprises - you’re in for a treat! Finally, I’ve been so excited for the release of The First To Die At The End which is a prequel to Silvera’s incredible novel, They Both Die At The End. The story follows “two new strangers who spend a life-changing day together after Death-Cast makes its first fateful calls.” I’m going to be buddy reading this with my sister @chrissireads and I can’t wait! I’d love to know your thoughts on my haul, have I tempted you to read any of them? Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagram #scottishbookstagrammer #keephauling #ohlookmorebooks #otherlands #thomashalliday #nonfictionreadersofig #fingersmith #sarahwaters #favouritebooksofalltime #thefirsttodieattheend #adamsilvera #neverstopbuyingbooks #insatiablebookworm #booksgloriousbooks📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/CnrOCGVLcmm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

"When you are born your courage is new and clean. You are brave enough for anything: crawling off of staircases, saying your first words without fearing that someone will think you are foolish, putting strange things in your mouth. But as you get older, your courage attracts gunk and crusty things and dirt and fear and knowing how bad things can get and what pain feels like. By the time you're half grown, your courage barely moves at all, it's so grunged up with living. So every once in a while, you have to scrub it up and get the works going or else you'll never be brave again."

Hello everyone and hope you had a great week! Mine was super busy, I was at a science 🧪 conference at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week (Thurs and Fri) I was back at work. Time for a book haul! I can’t remember where I heard about The Outsiders now (isn’t that always the way? 😂) but it was exciting enough for me to want it. It’s set in Liverpool 1981 amongst the turmoil of the inner city riots. We meet Paul whom in turn meets two people, Nadezhda and her daughter Sarah, the latter of which he feels an instant connection with. We are taken through Nadezhda’s clandestine background in war-torn Europe and as the summer reaches its climax, his feelings for both are tested amidst secrets, lies and the unravelling of the past. I’ve heard so much about The Push so it was a no brainer to preorder the paperback. I know a few of my #bitcrackbookclub crew have been raving about it so I’m excited. It’s deserved as the most breathtaking debut about motherhood and obsession that you’ll ever read - hmmm sounds intriguing for sure! Finally we’ve got The Lost Boy which had one of the most stunning front covers. I bought this with a voucher after being recommended her work and even though she has a few books out, this stood out to me. “Peter’s idea of fun is sharper than a pirate’s sword. He always wants to be that shining sun that we all revolve around. He’ll do anything to be that sun. Peter promised we would all be young and happy forever. Peter will say that I’m a villain, that I wronged him, that I never was his friend. Peter Lies.” 😳 I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a great weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookhoarder #bookhaul #booksperfection #paperbackhaul #theoutsiders #jamescorbett #thepush #ashleyaudrain #thelostboy #christinahenry #beautifulbooks #couldntresistthesebadboys #booklover #bookworm #booksgloriousbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CbQcbzirXRk/?utm_medium=tumblr

Blood Orange has been on my TBR ever since it was released and I started hearing good things about it. Like many other books on my shelves, it has been sadly neglected until I saw that @buddyreadbooknook were holding a buddy read. I’ve done a few reads now with lots of other lovely readers (please see tags on this IG post) and it really is wonderful discussing different theories, especially when you’re reading a thriller which is bound to have some twists. ⁣ ⁣ This is the story of Alison who is a successful barrister in London and is about to become involved in defending her first murder case. Unfortunately Alison elsewhere is quite frankly, a bit of a mess. She drinks to excess (which quite often leads to trouble), she is having an affair and home life with her husband, Carl and young daughter is becoming increasingly difficult. ⁣ ⁣ As the story continues, Alison begins to realise that the clues to making changes to her life may lie within the case she is defending. However someone is watching every move Alison makes and is hell-bent on giving her the comeuppance they believe she deserves,⁣ ⁣ This novel is the very definition of page-turning! I was so intrigued by the plot and even more so by the characters that it was a thrilling ride from start to finish. Yes, there were unlikeable characters and for the majority of the novel Alison herself is very difficult to understand or sympathise with. ⁣ ⁣ There were a lot of events which occurred in the story that I really didn’t expect - I love when an author can shock me like that! As a result, I couldn’t figure out what exactly was going on until that final, jaw dropping last chapter. This was a fantastic buddy read and a great book to start off @emmasbookishcorner challenge for 2022 - “an author new to you.” ⁣ ⁣ Well, I’ve already bought and arranged to read Harriet’s next book on the strength of this one so she is new to me no longer!⁣ ⁣ Four solid stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⁣ #bookstagram #bookstagrammademebuyit #booksgloriousbooks #bookreview #bloodorange #harriettyce #thrillerbooks #thrillerauthors #fourstarread #fourstarreview #buddyreads #bookswithatwist #authorsnewtome #emmasbookishcornerchallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/CYhcG2CL5Ud/?utm_medium=tumblr
