I finally broke down and picked up this copy of #WonderWoman the complete #comicstrip 1944-1945 about a month ago in a @boxlunchgifts clearance sale! I've wanted to read the original WW comics since the film about its creator, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, came out in 2017. Its had been too long since I did a #bookshelfbucketlist post! I wanted to mix it up this time and feature a virtual @audible exclusive book, #thesandman by #neilgaiman, hosting a stat studded voice cast of #Riz Ahmed #KatDennings #Taron Egerton Neil Gaiman #JamesMcAvoy #SamanthaMorton #Bebe Neuwirth #Andy Serkis, and #MichaelSheen. I had had this beauty on pre-order even before I knew it was going to have a full cast performance because I love the #comic and graphicnovel #theSandmanUniverse! Though the original Sandman ran from 1989-1996, the amazing thing about the series is that its running today (the most recent graphic novel is due to be released later this year). The universe is a detailed and engrossing trip through multiple "dream" worlds ...kinda like having unlimited alternative realities. Also, because its by #gaiman its steeped in various types of #mytholgy. I realized I have been neglecting my #BookShelfBucketList picks lately, which is terrible because there are hundreds of books I have, but have never read 😬 Today's comes from watching @maiseltv which has become one of my favorite shows. #howtotalkdirtyandinfluencepeople is a autobiography written by #standupcomedian Lenny Bruce. I absolutely love comedy and comedians but I don't know a great deal about the history of American stand up which, especially in the the case of 60s and early 70s era comedians, is also closely tied to the history of #freespeech and #freedomofexpression here in the US. #LennyBruce is one of the most influential #standupcomedians of all time (which is something I would have never known if it wasn't for watching #lukeKirby's fabulous fictional portrayal of Bruce in the #marvelousmrsmaisel) who played a pivotal role in shaping modern comedy. He is known for fighting to break down barriers for free speech and expression, a fight that often involved being arrested (A LOT). His off the cuff, improvisational comedic sense was a stark contrast to the more mainstream established stand ups at the time and his constant often satirical social commentary brought topics that were usually never spoken of, like sex, politics and religion, to center stage. I can not wait to get into this bucket list read and learn more about him in his own words! Today's #bookshelfbucketlist is a bit of a controversial one... #blacklikeme was written by novelist John Howard Griffin, a white man who had his "skin temporarily darkened by medical treatments" so he could attempt to discover the Black experience in "the deep south". Originally published in 1961, it's fair to say that no one anticipated something like this coming and, for a variety of reasons, something like this was never done again, though it did inspire scores of similar kind off "spin off" situations (one that I remember was that #BlackLikeMonica episode of #touchedbyanangel that left quite an impression on seven year old me). Griffin's book was met with plenty of support but it was of course also met with plenty of condemnation and harrassment. Threats and violence against Griffin and his family became so dangerous that he left the country for a time for his own saftey. Today's #bookshelfbucketlist was brought to you courtesy of a @dynamitecomics blind box I got not too long ago. Amongst my other comic goodies, the box came with the first issue of #WillEisner 's #TheSpirit written, drawn, colored and lettered by #FrancescoFrancavilla. After I got my first bite I craved the whole meal so I tracked down the #hardcover #trade and was not disappointed! Having never read The Spirit, I was really jazzed to try this special Eisner centennial ark #theCorpseMakers and, if the first issue is any indication, I'm in for a real treat! I picked this one up at the used book store side of @psychiceyebookshops because it was too perfect! The story centers around the search for ancient deck of tarot cards and a manuscript which accurately foretells major events which sounds like too much fun! Plus, I thought it was pretty cool that it was an advance proof copy! Today's #bookshelfbucketlist is #TheGoldenBough by #SirJamesFrazer. As some one who was looking to major in #anthropology and had a particular interest in magic and religion, this book has always been a must read. Sir James Frazier was a Scottish anthropologist whose studies accumulated to "wide-ranging, comparative study of mythology and religion". The Golden Bough, in its original multi-volume format, was most notable in its day for openly drawing attention to the many similarities between Christian traditions and the older Pegan traditions. In general, Bough is a required read anyone looking for insight into where modern values and beliefs may have devolped from. Today's #bookshelfbucketlist is a classic and dear story to my heart, #charlesdickens #littledorrit. I fell the 2008 #BBC mini series and immediately started looking for a fun copy of to read. When I came across this late 19th century #collierbooks published two parter complete with engravings, I knew I had to have it. I have a couple different titles by the Peter Fenelon Collier publishing company because I love the look of the covers and bindings, plus, I am an absolutely SUCKER FOR ENGRAVINGS! Today's #bookshelfbucketlist, #StephenKing 's #Joyland, has come off my shelf many times since grabbing it at my local #barnesandnoble but I havent gotten a chance to get a proper look into it yet. Everything about this book attracted me. From Stephen King, to the pulp style #HardCaseCrime cover by #GlenOrbik, to it's all encompassing description of being all "at once and mystery, a horror story, and a bittersweet coming-of-age novel", it paints a picture I couldn't resist. Today's #bookshelfbucketlist pick, #zenandtheartofmotorcyclemaintenance has been on my list for quite some time. So long, in fact, that I recently discovered I have unwittingly bought it three times over the years. Art and Zen follows a father and his son on "summer motorcycle trip across America's Northwest". Penned by American philosopher and writer #RobertmPirsig as "An inquiry into values"  Art and Zen is a deceptively complex story, using the simple premise as a vehicle a deeper look at life. Considering my affinity for reading similar concept books in the past like #LifeofPi, and #TaoOfPooh, The Art and Zen of Motorcycle Maintainance remains high on my bucket list! I don't usually go in for film novilazations but this one seemed to to good to pass up (plus I literally bought like every single thing I could from the live action product line because...BELLE)! Lost in a Book follows Belle as she discovers an enchanted book in Beast's library that allows her to actually enter the world of the books and interact with its characters. You accompany Belle as she navigates through the new world she discovered....does anything sounds more perfect than that?! Today's #bookshelfbucketlist is #GavinEdwards' #LastNightatTheViperRoom. I picked this one up at @lastbookstorela's suggestion table because I couldn't resist. I fell in love with #RiverPheonix the first time I saw #StandbyBe and quickly consumed as many of his films as I could find. He held my attention like no other actor had before; there always seemed to be so much going on under the surface and I always wanted to know more.
