Doctor Who status report again! Alright we are half way into S5 and I have opinions to share! These were our fist impressions of the differences after the last regen!

It may still be too soon to judge but there was a noticeable tonal shift in the series with the change in writers. It feels like the writing is suddenly taking itself a bit too seriously, it's moodier with less levity and humor in between. The banter feels more formulaic and often times too on the nose. The doctor also feels angrier, cockier, more self involved, which can be a great character arc on itself don't get me wrong but I think with Ten there was this contrast between his goofy front and what's underneath that made the switching so shocking and heart wrenching and I miss that! I'm also missing the reverence for life and optimism as the main driving theme I think? but again it's probably too early to say! It's also leaning a lot more on sex humor for some reason and I can't say I'm a fan but that's more of a personal choice. There is also a difference in the companion dynamic and arc that reads more YA but I'd have to watch more to tell. All this being said I feel it sounds harsh and like I don't like it but I do! I feel Matt Smith is adorable and does a great job, I loved "The Beast Below" so far that's been my favorite of this half of the season. I also think both Nicolas and I have such a huge bias towards Ten and DT in general that our judgement is compromised so take all of this with a grain of salt 🤣 we were really blown away by the first 4 seasons so it's going to be hard to top but I stay hopeful and we are enjoying ourselves nonetheless. Now onwards to the second half!

Matt chuckled as you two stopped at a crosswalk. He gave your interlaced hand a quick squeeze, turning his head in your direction to flash you a megawatt grin, complete with your favorite set of dimples that made you weak in the knees. He was turning that signature Matthew Murdock charm all the way up to eleven, and you both knew it would get him exactly what he wanted. It always did.

“Can I just surprise my girlfriend, please? I’m trying to be romantic here.”

Matt loved the way your heart skipped a beat everytime he referred to you as his girlfriend. He could feel the grin that spread across your lips, chuckling to himself as you huffed quietly and squeezed his hand back in return with a quiet grumble.

“Okay, fine. But if you trip, I want you to personally explain to everyone around us that it was your fault so I don’t look like a horrible person.”

“I’m fully prepared to defend you, sweetheart. Don’t worry, I’ve got my opening statement ready.”

It was a chilly February day in New York, but luckily the sky was clear and the sun was shining brightly. You couldn’t tell if the warmth you felt was being radiated from the rays kissing your face or the man beside you caressing your hand. A timid smile tugged at the corners of your mouth as you gently took Matt’s outstretched hand, moving to sit beside him on the blanket. You eyed him curiously as he laced your fingers together, tilting your head to the side slightly.

“What are you up to, Murdock?”

Matt brought your hand up to his mouth, pressing a featherlight kiss to the back of your hand as a proud smile overtook his lips.

“You’ve been wanting to see Central Park since you moved to New York, and I’ve been promising to take you. Also, Karen let it slip that you’ve never celebrated Valentine’s Day before, and well…neither have I, really. So, I thought we could share this first together.”

Your heart was going wild in your chest, and Matt could taste the saline that brimmed your waterline. Your hold on his hand became a little tighter as you swallowed the lump in your throat, leaning in to press your forehead against his as you laughed breathlessly.

“I had no idea you were such a hopeless romantic, Matty.”

“Mm, I’d say a date in Central Park is pretty damn romantic.”

Matt gently nudged your nose with his, finding himself mirroring the huge grin that took over your mouth after you gasped. Falling into a synchronized fit of giggles, you cupped Matt’s jaw as his other hand found it’s home on your neck.

“I’d say you’re lucky we’re in public.”

“What do you think the blanket is for?”

“Matthew!”

“Relax, I’m joking.”

Matt grinned wickedly as he leaned in to capture your lips in a deep kiss, reveling in the way you instantly melted into his embrace. That was one of his favorite things about you. Everytime he pulled you into his arms and held you close, or kissed you deeply, he could feel your body physically relax into his touch. He chased your mouth when you pulled away, eyebrows furrowing slightly until he felt your fingers gently removing the crimson glasses from his face. 

A shy smile covered his lips as you cupped his jaw once again with both hands, leaning in to peck his lips slightly.

“There you are, handsome.”

The first time you saw Matt without his glasses, you told him you thought he had the most beautiful eyes you’d ever seen. It took everything in him not to cry at the sincerity in your words. Ever since then, you begged him not to wear them around you, unless it was to make himself feel more comfortable if you two were in a public space. He nuzzled his face into your palm, always finding himself melting into your touch just as much as you did with him. 

He hadn’t realized just how touch starved he’d been until he met you. You were a very affectionate person. Even the first night you met, you’d hugged Matt goodbye like he was an old friend you hadn’t seen in years. He found himself craving your touch the more you came around, even feeling agitated or jealous if he felt like Foggy or Karen were getting more of your attention than he was. 

Matt started asking you to lead him every chance he got just to have you close. There was an unspoken rule between him, Karen, and Foggy that you would always take the seat closest to Matt wherever the four of you went. He always asked you to be his partner in pool at Josie’s. A few times when he felt emboldened by the liquid courage coursing through his veins, he’d slip his fingers through yours and hold your hand in his lap. The more you responded to his touch, the more pride swelled in his chest.

The first night you took the initiative and grabbed his hand first, he felt you tense up slightly. He knew it was wrong to take advantage of your alcohol induced state to ask questions he knew you couldn’t help but blurt out the truth to, but he desperately wanted to know why you were more cautious with your affection towards him than the others. After you drunkenly confessed it was purely because you didn’t want to overstep any boundaries of his, or make him uncomfortable in any way, Matt made sure you understood that he didn’t find anything you did a threat to his independence. As a matter of fact, he actually enjoyed how much you went out of your way to make sure he felt comfortable and included. You made him feel seen in a way he’d never experienced before.

You groaned loudly and let your head fall back against Matt’s chest as he mimicked your voice, wishing the ground would open wide and swallow you whole. 

“Why do you even remember that so vividly?”

“Because I don’t think I’ve ever gotten out of bed so fast. I had to make sure I got there in time before I was replaced.”

“I liked you better when you were being a sappy romantic.”

Matt lightly grasped your chin between his thumb and index finger to turn your head towards him gently, baring his teeth in a huge grin before leaning in to kiss your lips softly.

“Alright, alright. I’ll pause the walk down memory lane. For now.”

A devilish smirk curled at the corner of his mouth, and you would’ve been annoyed if it didn’t make him look so damn good. Matt reached for his backpack and proceeded to pull out various items that he spread out over the blanket. You watched in awe as he produced a bottle of your favorite wine along with two glasses, a box of chocolate covered strawberries, and a container of pizza from the Italian restaurant where you two had your first date.

“How the hell did you fit all of that in there?”

“I’m a really good lawyer.”

A fit of giggles immediately erupted from your mouth as you sank back into Matt’s chest, enjoying the feeling of his own laughter vibrating against your back.

“Is that what they taught you in law school?”

“Oh, there was a whole semester alone on surprising your girlfriend with a romantic picnic in Central Park. Very informative.”

For the next few hours, you and Matt traded memories between stolen kisses and slices of pizza. You had him rolling over in laughter as you tried to feed him a chocolate covered strawberry with your eyes closed, “to make it fair” you’d insisted, but you kept missing and bumping his nose with it instead. As Matt topped off your glasses with the last of the wine, he held his glass out towards yours with a satisfied smile.

“Happy Valentine’s Day.”

Your heart fluttered in your ribcage, and Matt’s smile only grew wider. You lightly clinked your glass against his in a toast, a smile full of content gracing your lips.

Matt rubbed gentle circles on your lower back as you laid on his chest, closing his eyes as he listened to you describe the sunset spreading across the sky above. He always went to you when he wanted to know what something looked like. You had a way with words and descriptions that made him feel like he could actually see what you were seeing. As the sun began to disappear into shades of deepening amethyst and navy, the warmth bid goodbye with it. He felt you shiver slightly as the temperature began to descend along with the moon.

“We can start heading back if you’re cold, sweetheart.”

“Can we stay just a little longer? I wanna show you the stars. We’ll be able to see Venus and Jupiter soon.”

Matt felt his chest swell with pure adoration at your words. He pulled you as close to his body as he physically could, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head as he sighed quietly in content.

i have,,, so many,,, but one of my favs is that one of trucy's fav movies is The Parent Trap, but she's never seen it all the way through. she always falls asleep partway through, and has gotten as far as the return from the camping trip but has never seen past that somewhat related is that trucy and phoenix do in fact know annie and hallie's handshake/dance from the movie and can do it perfectly

i have! i've written a few fics (and an essay) for ace attorney, and more wips trapped in my gdocs. i think my best piece is my nightmare fic from nrmt week earlier this year! it was my first AA fic and i'm still very proud of it

idk how unpopular this is but i think bratfeen is cute in theory but would be an absolute train wreck in practice. both of them are at very unstable points in their lives, with feenie being incredibly emotional and reactive (as we saw in 3-1) and bratworth being so under mvk's thumb. it would very much be "unstoppable force meets unmovable object" in a way that would just end in disaster and heartbreak

BIIITCH, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! Hush was so fucking goood!!! And that gif at the start???? I started out reading your story at ao3 but I’m so grateful for switching to tumblr. The thought you put into every detail of this AU blows me away every time (not to mention the research, the motivation of the characters, the life you’ve breathed into them 🤯). And don’t get me started on Daemon’s dirty talk - the way you write him is pure perfection!!! I’m always left wanting more and yet it’s always the perfect amount at the right time. I can read 50+ chapters of him just talking dirty shit. Thank you soo much for giving us another chapter from his perspective!!

I know the current story doesn’t have a plot per se buuut it’s such a great way pf building up their relationship without taking away from the amazing plot you’ve built in the other instalments. Plus, and idk if that was your intention, but I like that it shows that Daemon is really obsessed as a person and as much as they’re both wanting to have a child that’s not what their relationship is about. He’s never resentful or questioning why she’s not preggo yet. I honestly thought I would like the new story but I would be impatiently waiting for the baby fic, however once again you exceeded any expectation I had and I’m genuinely having the best time reading your story. Full honesty tho - at the end of each chapter I thinking ‘yep, that’s the one, ain’t no way she’s not pregnant after that dicking down 😅

Omg, thank you so much! I was terrified I went too far with 'Hush', as it's quite icky but I just so badly wanted to write this after @storyblackhold and I had the most FERAL discussion about it. I knew I wanted to post on AO3 as I friggin' love AO3, but there seems to be so much more of a community for this here on Tumblr (plus I can put thirsty GIFs in and make my page pretty lol). Can't tell you how much time I've wasted actually combing through footage and converting GIFs myself - the one for 'Hush' was one I cut! And it is so fun that my nerd love for research is paying off. To think this started as a dirty excuse to fantasise about Matt Smith in a platinum wig throwing the word 'cunt' around... Then I had to make the High Valyrian accurate by manually translating it... Then I was studying scenes and tweaking them for my own purposes... Next thing you know, I'm researching how a medieval healer could have inadvertently caused the death of their labouring patient by giving them toxic fungus lol. Now, we at a whole fic with a backstory, what the hell. Keep in mind that the remedy Maester Gerardys uses on poor Reader's leg in 'Hush' was also something I researched! Myrrh has a lot of antibacterial properties, and it was said that olive oil formed a barrier on wounds to prevent infection. Plus, the oil would stop the bandage from sticking as much.

This smut anthology is a great way to throw in tidbits of character building and general plot points without getting derailed by a whole narrative arc; for example, we learn that Reader goes back to King's Landing fairly regularly, that they've settled well into life at Dragonstone, that Daemon has stuff to do on the island (i.e. training those fuckwits from the Second Company) and that he's built a sort of reluctant friendship with Harwin. We learn that Otto's still being a bitter bitch about Daemon finding actual happiness, and that Lord Lyman is a G. Little things, ya know? As for the pregnancy thing, it can take quite a while to conceive, and as of yet it isn't the burning urge of both of them to have a kid; they're still learning each other (hehe) and figuring out how to navigate life as a married couple. Keep in mind also that this anthology will only vaguely span a few months - there's no exact order to them, nor a specific timeline, but we aren't talking years or anything. I know there are examples of women falling pregnant like immediately after they marry, but I see that used a lot and I wanted to explore the option of... not exploring it? I don't know if that makes sense. Let's just say that Daemon's not keeping track of her cycle or anything, he isn't quite that crazy yet. They're in the honeymoon phase of their relationship - they'll get there, don't worry!

As far as the "leaks" go, I would definitely take them with a pinch of salt (and this is coming from a rina shipper lmao) cos didn't mark st cyr say he literally didn't know what mr mazarra's s2 ending would be until he watched the show? disney's so secretive i doubt most people on set would even know enough to come up with those theories, and the stuff about love triangles etc. isn't hard to make up, people on here are already doing it.

I guess what I'm saying is, there's no way of knowing what's going to happen until we watch the show, so try not to worry too much about the rinas on twitter claiming that this is proof they've been right all along. The truth is we don't know any more than you do 😅

Having said that, I have been thinking about the claim that EJ isn't in the main cast. Now I don't know if this will be true but if it is , I have a theory I thought you might find interesting: imagine if because he's left high school (and might even be a counsellor at camp this year) EJ gets asked to direct the show.

I feel like it could be a really cool extension of his s2 arc, he'd get another opportunity to learn about himself while telling other people's stories, and I think it would be really interesting if he realised he was happier working behind the scenes, as opposed to s1 when he felt like he had to be the lead and have everyone's approval and attention, but he felt like he had to pretend to be someone else to get that

You're totally right about the show filming multiple endings b/c I do remember Mark saying what ur referring to in a post-S2 interview (I think....)🤔. I could see some of what the "leaks" are talking about coming true, but the love triangle, in particular, seems especially obvious, and not in a good way. I wouldn't be surprised by a Portwell/Rina love triangle, I just think it's bad storytelling. What I mean is that this show has had 2 seasons in a row of love triangles (S1: EJ/Nini/Ricky, S2: Nini/Ricky/Gina and Mike/Jenn/Mazzara) so having Gina, EJ, and Ricky involved in another love triangle for the third season in a row seems like a step back for these characters (esp considering EJ and Gina have gotten the short end of the stick in both cases). 😥😣

I didn’t hear about the claim that EJ isn’t a part of the main cast anymore. I can’t speak for S4 and beyond, but it’s safe to say he will be a main at least in S3 b/c Matt is still probably number 3 on the call sheet. EJ is still a Core 4, now Big 3, member (I also think he’s still a main b/c he just did Family Feud w/ the rest of the cast)🤔. For ur theory, I’ve deff had similar thoughts! EJ seems to really be embracing shining the spotlight on other ppl in S2, so that could deff carry on to S3! 😙 I personally think the camp director may not want to give up control to anyone, so Dewey(?) may not want EJ as a director for the camp’s musical. I could see Miss Jenn giving EJ the chance to co-direct one of East High’s musicals in the future tho (probably S4 or S5).☺️

I can’t tell you how nice it is to talk with a Rina who doesn’t dislike/hate EJ! 😭 I couldn’t agree more w/ you about where his arc is headed. I get the feeling Gina and EJ are getting to the point in their character arcs where they don’t care for the lead as much anymore. I feel like EJ may decide to go to the state school and study in film productions/directing towards the end of S3. Maybe his role in the camp’s musical, whether as a lead or working behind the scenes, helps him make that decision. 🤗

After the museum, he had invited you to his place for a drink and you happily accepted

Once you arrived, he led you to the kitchen and you sat on the countertop while he made you a drink, watching his hands expertly mix and shake the ingredients before pouring them into two identical glasses

He handed you a glass and leaned back against the counter opposite with his own

You both sipped in silence for a moment, enjoying the drink and the tension in the air

As you held the glass up to your lips, he had a great view of the tattoos gracing your forearm

Really, he had a great view of most of your tattoos in the dress you had chosen, and his eyes darted around, trying to take them all in

He stepped forward and placed his glass down on the counter next to you

You told him the meaning and stood still for a moment so he could take it in before turning back to face him
