Brigo
Brigo is likely one of the first NPCs players encounter when playing Breath of the Wild. He spends his time on Proxim bridge, which many players will pass on their way to Kakariko Village from the Great Plateau.
Tumblr media
He seems a bit lonely.
Tumblr media
He carries a spear, and seems to be in charge of keeping monsters away from the bridge. It's unclear if this is a proper job or just a hobby. We see a few other Hylian NPCs like Hoz that seem to have a job as a guard, but it's unclear who is organizing and paying them, since it's not like Hyrule has a central government at the moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He'll also tell us about the towers and shrines, which must be quite confusing to the general populace of Hyrule.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He'll even warn us about Guardians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He nearly died from one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is helpful advice for new players, as you can hide behind trees to avoid Guardians if you're sneaky enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But people more likely recognize him as the NPC who tells you not to jump off the bridge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to the Zelda Wiki, it's possible that Brigo is inspired by Kevin Briggs, who is known as a Highway Patrol officer who talked a lot of people out of jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.
He'll also tell us about the area, including directions for Kakariko Village. There's also a LOT of warnings against going to Hyrule Castle, which is good advice for players who just started their adventure.
If it rains, he'll take shelter by a nearby cover with a campfire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
---------------------------------------
In Tears of the Kingdom, he can be found traveling the roads around Whistling Hill with his donkey. He'll chat with us for a little bit and talks about how much the world has changed. There isn't much to get him excited anymore since the unusual is usual now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it rains, he will find cover under a tree by the Riverside Stable, but not inside the stable itself.
Tumblr media
He'll still call us a young guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's unclear why he's not a guard anymore and where he got the donkey, but he has a Zonai Survey Team uniform.
Tumblr media
Perhaps he wanted to explore the world now that it's not covered in Guardians. He seems to be doing well for himself as a researcher.

ok but: Link falling, getting very hurt, Mipha's Grace healing him while in front of other people. How do they respond when this happens- after assuming he died because of a long fall?
Honestly. I would assume the majority of Hyrule would be relatively.. numb to crazy things happening. Although, at least some might be at least a little bit alarmed - “Shouldn’t you be dead?”“No.”“Okay?”I know we have people who like, Brigo who immediately jump to talking Link down from the edge, yet even with this I would assume everyone would be able to be quite lax about ‘near death -- survival?”On that note Brigo really touches my heart...~Mod Zelda

No one in BoTW really gives a shit about the weird ass shit Link does
Except ONE person
Only one person ever truly cares about Link and puts a stop to his shenanigans. The only one who treats him like any other person and not like the wild gremlin we all know Wild to be.
And that person is...

Here’s a different reaction you can get from Brigo if you stand too near the edge of the bridge. I’m not sure what causes him to say this rather than that other bit of dialog, but still I think it’s really neat to see the different text. I actually got this reaction first and then the one I posted yesterday.
It is sorta funny that you can trigger his text by climbing the bridge if you were going to, say raid one of the nearby bokoblin camps, as happened in a great BotW story I read, titled The Watchman at Proxim Bridge. I’m afraid I do drive Brigo batty sometimes, especially the way I zoom past on my horse sometimes or walk carelessly along the rail of the bridge...

Just some more details on the characters in my Zelda AU
Link:
Names hes used and roles he’s been: Link, Thistle, scarred champion, Wild, Hateno Phantom, Yigas bane, intern to doctor Purah, Slate, Field tester for ancient armor mark 2, linkson (honarary Bolson construction worker), Aryll, possessed one, fierce diety, godling, wrath of the goddess, hunter, Madius
Adventures or jobs link has been on: Botw, linked universe (forced his way out of it though), behind the scenes aid in AoC through leaving supplies and thinning monster hoards before the champions got to them but didn’t want to deal with Revali or Rhoam, also didn’t want to deal with his past self (closest he got to direct interference was just prior to AoC link pulling the sword and Fort Hateno) despite his limited interference he was still seen by some of the people back then (baby Sidon, Impa [she attempted to follow him but she lost his trail], terrako, and Tulin), bonus links whatever the story ends up being, mercenary work, cartography, and sheikah tech research.
Other general stuff: Impa trained him before he faced ganon, he is the best potion maker in hyrule and made many varieties other than what is seen in game, he helped to train Riju, he fights with a very diverse skill set but after training from many teachers he’s always got strong swordsmanship to fall back on.
Links family (post calamity):
Link: Immortal or atleast eternally youthful without using magic to fabricate aging (his eternal youth is only after botw 2 in this AU so he’s like physically 26)
Zelda: friend, girlfriend, wife. Died 7 AR (after resurrection)
Riju: adopted sister
Teba: father figure
Yunobo: little brother / protege
Sidon: adopted brother
Astra: first daughter, born 4 AR, Researcher, primarily fights with light magic but after Sunny’s death picked up archery, dies 145 AR of natural causes
Sunny: second daughter, born 6 AR, archer, explorer, died 23 AR yiga, had healing magic
Penumbra: biological mother to Brigo and Aria, adoptive mother of Astra and Sunny , twili, links current spouse, shorter than Midna but not by much and same height as post divinity Link, born 19 BR (before resurrection), uses magic to slow aging to live with link longer / keep her youth, dies 681 AR from natural causes
Brigo: son born 12 AR, half twili, trained by sheikah (fights like Impa does in AoC with a bit of shadow magic thrown in) can perform something similar to urbosas fury
Aria: third daughter born 46 AR, half twili, fights very similarly to how Link did post resurrection but subbing flurry rush and bullet time out for magic (jumping into opponents shadow, dins fire) and hand to hand
Both Brigo and Aria can use magic similar to the arm shown in the botw 2 trailer (green life magic shit)
Fi -> Identia: the spirit of the sword, Link awoke her and helped her to heal and become her own being and think of herself as more than just a weapon hence the name change as I saw in a skyward sword review where the reviewer thought Fi was derived from ‘identify’ so I thought it would be neat to pull a name from the same word to show growth but also stay true to the roots of the character. Able to manifest a more human form like ghirahim relationship with link is for me to classify right now.
After Sunny’s death Link wiped out all the remaining yiga and any that did survive are too scared to make another move on him

I tried to jump off a bridge to attack some enemies, but suddenly I was stopped by an NPC who had the wrong idea.
I honestly was not expecting this at all. But I have seen what life could be and will never jump off bridges again.

Don’t tell me what to do, Brigo.
[Video ID: Breath of the wild clip, me playing as Link gallop across a bridge on horseback, I dismount as I notice some monsters on a little outcropping of land to the side of the bridge, I climb up onto the wall of the bridge only for an NPC, Brigo, to yell that I shouldn’t be rash. I tap through the rest of the text without reading it before drawing a fire arrow towards the monsters.]
I got my ass kicked.
