"She's very interesting if you look into all the details around her; she was definitely shady," Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen told BraveWords.com. "I just thought, how the hell? If you read about her, there's so many things that come up. She's been all around, flirting with a lot of royal men. At that time, having the kind of act that she had with her Spider Dance… people were coming to her show, the miners were throwing their gold in front of her because she would be lifting up her skirt so they could see everything. She was very controversial, but at the same time, she was very beautiful, and all the men were totally drawn to her. It's a very interesting character."

Volbeat debuted the song during the band's appearance in June 2013 at Germany's Rock Am Ring Festival.

Poulsen told Classic Rock magazine about his writing for the Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies album: "I wanted to bring in some characters that people weren't so familiar with or maybe had heard a little about," he said. "Lola Montez is not a typical character, the same with Pearl Hart. I wanted to find characters who were a little bit deranged."

"Mostly, the inspiration came from books as I read a lot," he continued. "The same with Black Bart, who is one of my favorite characters. Of those three names, they are all real characters who were alive."

‘Amaranth’, released August 22, 2007 is the first official single from their sixth studio album, Dark Passion Play, with singer Anette Olzon.

The song was original called ‘Reach’ when the band began recording the demos for the album. After they had chosen the new female singer in February 2007, the lead vocal of the song was changed from Marko to Anette and they renamed the song.

The music video, that accompanied the single, is based on a Finnish painting called The Wounded Angel, which was painted at the turn of the 20th century by Hugo Simberg and voted the most loved painting of the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki in 2006. The video alternates between the band playing underground and scenes of a story of two boys who find a fallen angel.

When writing the album, ‘Amaranth’ was the last song in Tuomas list of preferences among the fifteen he wrote. “The chorus of ‘Amaranth’, I almost feel ashamed about that,” laughs Holopainen. “It’s so corny and poppy and annoyingly catchy. I was laughing when I was writing it, thinking ‘Oh man, this is going to be something.’ The funny thing about the song is that it was going to be the bonus track until the very end. I didn’t like the song that much so it was going to be the B-side for the second single, but everybody kept telling me that it was awesome, that it was single material and the catchiest song on the album. I was laughing at myself when I wrote it because I knew it was going to work, I knew it was going to be good and that everyone would like it, but the chorus is just so pop-music.”

Ghost History: Helsinki Metal Meeting/Finnish Metal Expo

One of the last guests confirmed in the line up, Ghost brought their ministry to the Helsinki Metal Meeting[1]. Attendees of the festival were blessed with the live debut of Satan Prayer and Stand by Him.[2]
