Top 5 Claymation Stop-Motion Animated Films

Claymation is a type of stop-motion animation. This involves the movement of various objects and characters constructed of clay. Stop-motion is the process of taking inanimate objects, moving them a small amount and taking a picture. Animators have to do this repeatedly to shoot twenty-four frames for every second of animation. Due to this, movies designed with this style take several years to create. Although there are view in the film industry, the best Claymation stop-motion films will be presented.

1. Chicken Run

The plot for this movie centers around a dark conflict for a children’s film. Ginger is a chicken on a chicken farm. She and all the other hens are required to lay a certain amount of eggs each week. If they don’t, the chickens are considered infertile and axed off. Dreaming of a free-range life, Ginger constantly attempts to escape her fate before they’re all “plucked, stuffed and roasted” for their farmer’s dinner. Although this movie is rated G, it’s important to note the film may be too hard to follow for younger kids or too scary for sensitive children.

2. Coraline

This film may be marketed to kids, but Coraline is far from it. Rather, this movie isn’t for little kids due to the appropriate PG ratting. There are many hidden horrors presented in the wonderful world of whimsey. Throughout the film, there are several scary moments and disturbing scenes. Some adults watching Coraline for the first time might think these certain events don’t compare to a stereotypical horror movie intended for mature audiences. Ironically, this film was based on the Coraline children’s book, which is arguably scarier than the movie.

3. ParaNorman

Out of all the movies on this list, ParaNorman is the only non-kid-friendly film featured. Some viewers may allow older children to watch the film, but the movie has an appropriate PG ratting for a reason. There’s some adult humor and dialogue in the movie along with a disturbing character backstory. Despite the adult themes, some of the characters are good. Norman is the best character in film for a boy in his interesting situation.

4. Corpse Bride

Tim Burton films are always fun to experience with their original stories. The simple plot is practically nonexistent, but this movie is no exception to the creepy magic of Burton. Despite the flat characters, the film’s visuals are attractive as expected from a Burton movie. Most children can watch the film and overlook or miss the disturbing situation of the characters to enjoy the flick fine. However, older audiences will understand the horrific backstory of the featured “corpse bride” told through song.

5. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Unlike all the previous movies featured in this list, there’s nothing for little kids to worry about in this film. Wallace and his dog, Gromit, are pest control specialists. Together, the silly pair work hard to keep their town’s vegetables safe. The movie is as weird as a kid’s film can be, but in a good way. There are several funny moments based on how the characters choose to approach their predicaments. The crazy antics between the man and his puppy pal are a joy to watch, even for older audiences.
