I finally get to watch a short, fat ginger woman writer who looks like me find love with a handsome Bridgerton man and God it is everything.

This touched me just as much as Nicola’s exquisite emotive expressions this season - disability representation for those with mobility aids. I watched carefully to see if Colin would find this gentleman suitable for Penelope - if he would be treated by the narrative as equal in value and eligibility to every other gentleman of the ton. And he was. I didn’t think Colin would be cruel but in shows like Glee for example the kid in the wheelchair would get belittled and assaulted. Colin would have had to be the able savior to a bullied minority if this were Glee. The disability would have existed to serve the able-bodied characters.
Thank you, Shonda. This was the biggest surprise win of the season for me simply for its gentle insistence on the dignity and value of this man

Given the success in numbers the third season of Bridgerton has so far I can't help but wonder...is it a coincidence?
I am not even going to engage in the quality of the script and the season in general because the season is not even over.
But in television and movies every love story has its meaning and is beautiful but let us face we almost NEVER get the representation of a plus sized woman (who in reality is a mirror for many woman in the world) get the very same romance every other woman gets.
It is as IF there was AN AUDIENCE out there for such a representation.
Do you remember the success Mondler had in Friends and how SUCCESSFUL was the alternative universe episode with plus sized Monica STILL getting the very same BEAUTIFUL love story with Chandler? People had been ECSTATIC.
Here we see this again. Not in a sitcom. Not in a comedic way. But in an actual love story as any other hyped love story that is the center of a show.
And there are MILLIONS of people that want to see this and applaud it.
Like who would have thought!

As a Nicola fan, I was really excited for season 3 and it's been amazing to see her get her flowers + see all the amazing promo for her.
With that said, as a brown woman who was so thrilled to see Simone Ashley play the romantic lead in a show like Bridgerton in season 2, I can't help but feel grossed out by the clear differences in the s2 and s3 promos.

Finding out that Charithra Chandran was told by many people, especially her friends, that she only got the role for Edwina because she was brown and only due to a "diversity quota" is so sad, even more so with how toxic this fandom is. Like bipoc fans have been stating from the beginning, with the introduction of Regé, that that there are problems only to be gaslit. To this day Regé is being compared to Johnathan Bailey and the number of roles each have played in, with people completely ignoring how difficult it can be for actors of color to get roles in comparison to their white counterparts (and also, like, just because he hasn't been in as many roles as Johnathan doesn't mean anything either) to Simone (as well as the new actors who play John and Michaela) having to face waves of colorist and racist remarks. People were even telling the actor Victor Ali, in so many words, that he was "too dark" to play John, and out the gate some made fancast of lighter skin, often times white, actors to play Michael because of it). Some of yall are just hateful!

This article nails it. Is the TV version of Bridgerton an unrealistic fantasy world where people of all races get along with very little friction and everyone gets a happy relationship in the end? Yes.
Is that why people love it? Also yes. Escapism and idealism are important, too. Not everything has to be dreary and realistic.

So like will a Bridgerton ever have a fat person of color as a love interest or are we only ok with stomachs if they belong to a white person? 🤔

But if you’re saying he doesn’t have to be queer, why are you so hellbent of making him queer? Yes he’s aware of the lifestyle because of Granville and the parties. But it also makes him an ally. Just because you support your friends being queer doesn’t mean you are automatically.
Why are you so against Benedict being queer if it won't even affect his love story? Were you against Kate being Indian and her story changed to reflect that? Against Queen Charlotte being black and changes made to accommodate that?
My guess is that, no, you weren't, because you understand that it would make you racist. So, follow that logic to its natural conclusion regarding Benedict.

The reason why I won’t be watch QC is that (other than the fact that I won’t allow them to get me into George the freaking third as a romantic hero sorry babes but no) I’m just fucking tired of watching WOC be sad and miserable.
We don’t always need to go through things while we fall in love and find our happy ending.
So far only Kate has a “confirmed” hea and even the journey to that was miserable for her.
Marina, Lady Danbury, Mary, Edwina, Queen Charlotte.
All these women deserve to stay happy.
Why must women’s stories especially WOC be about resilience all the damn time
Anyways I’m glad it’s doing well since the actors deserve all the praise they’re getting but I won’t be tuning in.

No healing for this curvy girl in Bridgerton season 3 (slight spoilers)
I was so looking forward to this season and seeing a woman with curves get honest to goodness romantic sex scenes.
For so long the sex scenes with curvy girls in film have been shown with a tone of humor or disgust or pity.
And Bridgerton season 3 was supposed to change all of that. Except it didn’t. Not for me, anyway.
Because while other Bridgerton heroines have been stripped clean of their clothes, with their entire body on full display, Penelope was not.
In all her scenes she was never completely undressed save for one brief moment that isn’t even shown fully. We get one quick glimpse of her glorious bosom and then she delegated to being covered up with a blanket. Colin goes so far as to pull the blanket to cover her up more at one point!
We don’t get to see her beautiful curves. They’re continuously hidden like it’s a shameful thing to show a woman whose waist isn’t small, with a stomach that jiggles, thighs that don’t fit neatly in a man’s hands, and breasts that aren’t small and perky.
What I got out of Bridgerton season 3 is that yes, you curvy girls can have a love interest who isn’t also plus size, but only because he thinks you’re interesting, not because you’re beautiful. And yes, being interesting is going to last longer than beauty, but is it too much to ask to be both?
It seems even today on a super progressive show, the answer is still “yes”.
