Thanos had a strong grasp around his neck, his hand coiled around the expanse, whilst Thor was restrained by Maul. "The sun will shine on us again brother." Loki spoke, unable to gouge his sibling's reaction, for that was his end. A crack, a vigilant snap, and that was it; he knew what had become of him. He was no more the figure of a god, merely an ideology that was to no longer walk upon the galaxy, and flying through a bifrost light until he came to be standing on a ground he had never seen before. It was so green, more so than his armour or his eyes, the ripest life he had ever seen in any ecosystem.

And in truth, there was a sun, brightly glaring down upon him as he succumbed to his death. Loki did not have it in mind to die, but it was the event that he had received for trying to save the last of his family. He was usually seen as the villain, but his last act had been one of a hero, and in the reality that he had lived, there had been no ambient bulb from the sky that shon and gave him peace. But seeing that his brother had not joined him in this land he was relieved; there was a chance that the God of Thunder still lived and breathed and that was all that he could hope for.

"I saw you coming." Heimdall appeared, his amber eyes boring into the God of Mischief as his head bowed. Apparently his tricks of his born trade had not parted well for him, or either of them. They had been foolish to ever believe that they could beat a Titan with his Black Order, and now here they were paying for their failures. A sad smile tugged at Loki's features, rather than being annoyed by the statement, he was comforted by it. It was something that had often irritated the Prince but now he no longer had a reason to showcase that behaviour.

Here there was no king that he could not become, there was no land that he was stolen from therefore proving him to be a true Odinson for ending up here, and there were no immortal wars and battles that he would get entangled in. "I know you did." Loki replied with a succumbed smile of sadness, seeing the world before him submerged in nothing but beauty and tranquility. "Where is my mother?" He asked, wishing to know of her whereabouts. Because of him, she was dead, and he wanted to ensure that she had no hard feelings about his crude, scheming mistake.

"On the lake with Odin." Heimdall managed a sturdy hand against Loki's shoulder to refrain him from running to them then and there. "They are fine Loki. However there appears to be someone else here that I am certain that you have not forgotten." The magician gulped, already presuming the name that would spill from the Bifrost Keeper's lips. "Y/n, goddess of fidelity. She is has been here all this time, waiting until you join her. It seems that she kept fidelity towards everyone but you; no one suspected that she would continue to remain loyal in the afterlife, but with you it appears that she is willing to go against her beliefs."

And there it was. Another whom he cared about that had been so ruthlessly torn from him. Y/n, his wife who has unfortunately parted from him in a rouse of angry soldiers who she chose not to defy. Life had been a strained prospect to continue without her, he had even doubted that their beliefs would allow her to pass onto this plain, however it appeared they had and he couldn’t have been more glad. Loki mirrored Heimdall’s stride and also placed a hand on his shoulder, as though they were family.

“Where might I find her?” He enquired, desperate to see his beloved for another time. It took a moment for the Norseman to answer, but when he did, Loki thanked him and bolted straight to said area. By the fornication of brambles that was peaking on the hill by the waterfall. Running through this world, Loki found he had the endurance of all other soldiers he had lived and died with, he wasn’t getting tired, it was like a rush of exhilaration passed through his veins during his adventure to rejoice in a reunion.

As he came significantly closer to the said area, smoke brewed, hinting at a fire. When he walked through the small woods that were in his way, he saw a woman seated by said flames, her head pulled back and eyes shut. There was no denying it, he recognised this woman, it was y/n! “I have been waiting for the time that you showed my love. The years have dragged by like the tail of a king’s cloak. I have-“ She couldn’t quite find it in herself to say that she had missed him, she had always had troubles expressing her emotions, but Loki came and sat behind her as her eyes peeled open, and placed his hand atop of her own.

“I know darling.” He spoke for her, each day that had passed without her presence being worse than torture itself. “But we made it to Valhalla, and now that is all that matters. And now I shall wait until my sibling breathes his last breath like the withering of a dying star, and I will have every person I care about here. No more death or suffering, for we cannot be demised or separated in this world. I remember as a child my father would tell me and Thor of it, and how beautiful it was supposed to be, and now I can finally see true gold as you my wife are here too.”

“It is good to see you once more Loki, and I am relieved that there will be no more parting from one another, and that we have stuck to our vows of finding each other in Valhalla when it is all over. It is rather strange, I find myself to be more optimistic here, we have eternity ahead of us and I don’t want to waste a single second, I want to make each one count.” His grip on y/n’s hand tightened, their fingers combing to pass into a hold together as the raven haired god leant in closer, his breath simmering against the complexion of her cheek.

“And we shall, how about we start our forever right this second?” His hand combed through her braided locks, running along the surface of her scalp as he lovingly turned her head, their noses accidentally bumping together. “Þú getur lyft hammanum mínum hvenær sem er, ef þú veist hvað ég meina.” Loki’s head dipped to capture her lips as they laid beneath the sun together, it setting into a beautiful set of oranges and beacons of diverted light as he leant atop of his wife, making up for all the time that they had lost throughout the last one hundred years.

Her hands peeled at his clothing, bearing him down to the same nudity that he had been born into the world to. He repeated the actions upon her, leaving their flesh in a crushing clash that remotely emitted their emotions to one another. Hands were thrown into long locks, ankles were held around waists, hands were knotted together in a matrimony as the world became lost to them, and they adorned each other in lustrous kisses to emphasises how much they had missed each other. They had truly found Valhalla, and it was an opportunity to see out their marriage together and make a copious amount of new memories that would spin within this realm for all time.

Whispers of pleasure sung among the birds, greeting the newcomer to his new home. Loki had always been scared of death but the outcome of a natural passing only proved that all along he had had nothing to fear, it had only lead to a warm fire and a wolf skin beneath him, as well as the company of almost everyone that he cared for. He’d wished he could have fought Thanos with smarter tactics but he held no regrets, he had a feeling that in the long run that the Titan would not spur a win, and that eventually the avengers would bring him to his own end.

And whilst he was not a particular fan of the mad executioner, he only wished that he could be brought this same peace, and realise that all that bad he did lead to no good in the nine realms. Like Loki, he would see his extinct family again, and regret the trouble that he had brought. Loki was no martyr, or hero, or soldier. He would always be a trickster and if this ending were a trick, if he were manipulated to think that he had made it to Valhalla, he was okay with that. He had everything that he had wanted right here, saying his name with no remnants of fidelity.

EU study tips

BEFORE YOU START STUDYING

Plan

1. You have to be clear about how you are going to use the time. The first thing is to plan and decide what you are going to learn and how much time you are going to spend.

2. You should study as much as you need without leaving a subject or problem half-way through, so that you can study a different subject. Otherwise, what you learn will be so confusing that it will be the same as not having studied at all.

3. Make a list of all the activities you will do that afternoon. It's a good idea to have a daily study schedule, but one that is realistic, given your abilities.

4. Arrange the activities. Which one should you start with? Some experts advise starting with what is easiest for you, to encourage you to keep studying. Others say it's better to start with the difficult subjects, and get them out of the way as soon as possible. You choose, based on your own experience.

5. The schedule should be flexible and prepared for the unexpected. It will help you not to accumulate backlogs.

6. Don't forget to include time for rest and leisure in your schedule.

NOTES

Take note of what matters

7. When taking notes, try to listen to everything the teacher says.

8. Stand close, as you will be in a better position to see and hear.

9. You should pay close attention at the beginning of the class. This is the moment when the teacher gives a general idea of the subject.

10. Adopt a good posture in the chair. It will make it easier for you to attend and therefore understand the class.

11. While you are taking notes, you should discover which ideas are main, secondary or anecdotal.

12. If the teacher says something is very important, highlight it. It's very possible that you'll fail the exam.

13. Leave space or margin for later notes.

14. If there is something in the explanation that you didn't catch, leave a space to complete it at the end of the class.

28. Use Sundays for leisure and hobbies.

29. Don't leave studying to the last minute. Haste does not help learning. Start preparing for the exams from the beginning of the course.

PLACE OF STUDY

30. Always study in the same room. It will help you concentrate.

31. The study place should be airy and well ventilated.

32. There has to be an adequate temperature. Not too cold, not too hot.

33. Study in a room without noise. In any case, soft music.

34. Make sure there are no distractions such as television, radio, games, cell phone or table decorations.

35. The work table should have all the necessary material for study.

36. The light should preferably be natural, if not white or blue. It should come from the side opposite to the hand with which you write.

37. It is advisable to use a light bulb with a blue 60W bulb. In the rest of the room a dim light.

38. The table and chair should be in line with your height.

WHAT IF, AFTER ALL, I FAIL?

98. Don't worry, you can learn from your failures too. Reflect and try to find the reasons why it happened.

99. If it was your nerves that played a trick on you, you know, practice relaxation techniques and put away the exciting drinks.

100. If the reason for your failure was that you didn't study enough or in the right way, plan better and start studying now for your next exams. Take into account what you failed at, so that you don't fail again, and use these tips when you get lost.

Alchemical Overview, Cont’d

Okay so -- tumblr went weird and glitched out on a conversation I was holding with @drsilverfish and some others (x) So reposting the commentary and adding some bits, re silverfish’s “The Alchemy of God-Wounds and Marks in S15“ post. Just continued thought share and some notes for audience that might feel like they’ve missed something in what has realistically been a conversation with Dabberens about the nature of existence and personal agency for at least two years.

Okay so phew! Before I responded to this I wanted to make sure I had read all of your referenced meta since I've been so in and out lately, even if I hadn't replied to it all. I have some thoughts I'll include here relevant to your "Jung's Answer to Job" post, (x) and the general operative understanding of your "Raising Hell map and script" (with some additions I had attached x), but pulled together in this more direct and current post of yours. And frankly a lot of old stuff, just so people trying to pick up aren’t lost referencing some conversations as far back as two years ago re: union (x)

Because first of all wow what a RIDE. Now that I’ve had time to sit down, let me mostly heavily nod at everything you have to say; it might be redundant to talk about the feminine principle, from the old concept of general union on this old like S13 post (x) (Look at that it’s us talking about it. Some Things Never Change Dot Gif) or more recent pieces like my Citrinitas/Reno video (x) balancing the elements you’re raising while trying to help visualize the process not just in color but a torch passing of the proverbial light involved as the moontells her secret -- the light is not her own and is reflected from the soul one builds into with the yellowing in awareness. I find, for those reading meta as much to learn as anything, some suddenly understand the balance of this in process.

A great deal of that was the torch of Mary, which Dean had unwittingly even passed the light to Amara, after long ago sharing it with Cas -- before he lost that light and fell into his father’s shadows, before his father had his marriage renewed and gave away the stone to send John back in golden light. Cas now stands, confused, hearing Dean throw away everything he said the day Castiel chose to fall for him, in every sense of the term, but still tried to stay before, while being thrown recklessly at another dark door, in the wake of the death of his son, Castiel walks away after his own time in the red.

While Dean was steeping in the dark, Castiel carried on the torch saving people with Sam and calming the commoners, not just running death missions, and he’s keeping on with it after walking out; he won’t be thrown into the maw, but that alone spawns its whole character based web of what all processes Dean struggles with in his head over what Castiel even is to him, Chuck’s rank and position minded, even after the absence of Mary, is this something he’s even been toyed with, is that real - Castiel tried to affirm it but now that he walks out Dean packed it up and rolled on.

This is a great deal of backdrop, but now far enough back that it’s worth tapping in review in entering these conversations. The colors were also screamingly loud in several overtly named alchemical episodes, another of which was a Yockey-Speight episode: Optimism, and the opposed Nihilism; Ouroboros and Absence followed, -- “not evil, but the absence of good.” (Lmao just read x)

I would call what’s going on more than mildly reliable in regards to the amount of purpose to the general process is actively being given with as much direct reference to the rest as there is, and in general review before doing the full meta dive; I have to say, well DONE gents.

That brief general spurge aside, I can not emphasize *enough* how important to the idea of the Sacred Marriage or the Holy Eucharist is the fact that it quite literally can be depicted as you know, copulation, so the fact that it was vocalized Chuck tried to send Lilith to seduce Dean in the ways of old, and it simply didn’t work on Dean so plan B whatever -- with all of this other *stuff* going on, the loudness of that is wild in that “cancelled” yellow/red transition. Which just as much has pitched a flash of awareness on Dean bound to deepen in 15.06. (In fact here’s some more Sacred Marriage stuff from earlier this season in no particular order [x] [x] [x] and a bunch of posts of those tarot cards about the Art-Lovers transition after Death that I’ve been spamming repeatedly and y’all are probably tired of)

I can’t say how ecstatic I was to have a conversation with Fitz about the use of color, boldest with Dick Speight, but also passed to others like Tapping -- and how equally excited she was about it too. But as for how loud it bounces, just click (x). In fact it loudly surged in Yockey eps. Hard to say what level of that is coincidence really.

In fact, Ashley’s room captured it very loudly. The yellow was hard to miss, but Dean sat in dark clothes, them both on lead blackish blankets and stark white sheets; Dean’s yellowing is upon him at both the start and end of the episode as Sam and Dean stagger through Chuck’s own manufactured story, Lilith and all. This was focal on Dean and seems so; Sam is running another path entirely as you’ve pointed out.

Each character has been facing their own reddenings as you show, a level of dangerous awareness coming with it at many things that are actually surfacing as their own textual burdens to face -- his literal tie to Chuck, rather than Dean facing reflections of the father; Sam’s duty is to subvert the author itself, even if a great deal of that comes from Castiel as Chuck’s roving blind spot. Other metas of course explore that, so not getting deep into it here; Sam has stayed on point despite some violent awakenings for now and what a weird reversal of yellow eyes this all is in the way of the Sins of the Father (can’t find my old post on that but I’m sure @drsilverfish has one similar; if there’s one thing you’ll notice it’s us lobbing back and forth about this for a few years in the referenced posts).

Castiel’s reddening comes from a mix of facing some fairly raw patches with Dean in their relationship as has been covered amply, and general issues of belonging or believing, as well as just general wellness and self care -- his own agency, which is actually a huge step to be leading on ahead of the humans and yet again asserts him as an agent of free will, and sings true of the gorgon blindness to his antics as far back as season 4 (x).

Now round this conversation back up to how I opened and have reminder of even Bobo himself cropping up when I posted Walk Through The Fire to like it; released after 15.03, sung true two episodes later, “He was never going to stop”, but this is, per Lilith, exactly what Chuck has wanted them to see. Just as much as he’s questioned Cas in his life even most of the battle with or for his brother, it’s all just *A LOT*.

Dean’s reddening is mixed with the result that Sam’s shadows stare into, and a great deal of that leaves the question of the blank space.

The hermetic process literally does not work without the 3 prime substances in harmony (x).The intentional Absence of Castiel is a heavy topic many others have meta’ed to death but the danger right now is that a torch has been taken out of their lives. Dean’s most explicitly, but it’s not like it doesn’t effect Sam, but that’s an entire other conversation. But Castiel’s absence quite literally drained and part of Dean’s own coming upon him will be what the absence of Cas does to both him and them -- him and Sam. (x) And just about all reddenings come in the awareness of the importance of this triad in subverting the author, facing the father, brandishing free will and making Man god of his own fate once the existential crisis blows through.

I think what I’m mostly pointing out is a long running set of harmonics of these colors specifically floating Dabb-Berens-Yockey, and Yockey repeated on his way out the door. It’s worth shuffling through and seeing what Cain parallels really do swing us full circle to exploring that arc from a different angle; a Cas, without his powers, walking out in agency before Colette falls to Cain’s drive, or Rowena’s, or-- Dean’s. Or for now the heavyhanded werewolf brothers -- literally what Chuck wanted them to see. “I can’t stop Samuel.” “Tell me that you can stop.” “I will never stop.” - Cain; “He was never going to stop!” cried the young wolf.

Just as much as the queer narrative itself, general agency is upon the Winchesters right now, if perhaps some parts self improving alone and others in parts; but the color scheming bouncing through all of this modernly is absolutely fantastic. Nothing like Castiel’s reddening charging down the phallic demon of marriage blowing a horn and reflecting Dean’s soldier issues, their dead child, and Dean’s insistance to barge into the dark that Castiel had no interest in opening the door for, but by Dean and Belphegor was shoved towards. He still refused, and left as Amara did, and you’re right, the masculine absolutely does need the feminine, but Sam had his half of the sacred marriage display, and now we’re waiting on another. This should be a fun ride.

And seems to echo back to the Lat project Reflection sequence of crucifying the ego (x); but also finding the anima, the goddess, that has been removed from the animus (PLEASE read the post on SPN’s use of Anima, Animus, the Self and the Shadow) -- Dean literally has to stake up that snake of his daddy issues that climbs him, and Castiel his autonomy issues, and they their general connection; and Sam becoming the living concept of the God Man, Chuck and he having part of each other, reflecting the Yellow Eyed Demon who tainted him, and by which he was to become a demon; and now that, with God. How fascinating both Azazel’s wound and Amara’s bond to Dean were so similarly placed all that time ago, really.

** General disclaimer please do not take as some sort of indicator for a particular XYZ level of thing that tends to vary on people’s wants for textual or physical canon I just mean in the general breadth of it, we’re dancing such a loudly and beautifully painted line.

This post doesn’t even begin to grace on Jack’s mercurial or orphic role in this all (x), but that’s almost an aside that needs its own address.

Wonderful post, silverfish, and just wonderful work from the crew.

Oh and in final regards to the reddening, y’all are probably tired of hearing about my lateralus project that I build midseason last year to spec but “The Patient” -- and what parts turned out in season 15 so far -- may be worth entering into discussion with even some nice retroactive flare from Dabb before he really took over from Carver. FMP Mapping Workshop | 12/02/20

This afternoon we had our second fmp mapping workshop, we were tasked with plotting our main themes, working context and skill-set onto a diagram. This was a particularly useful task, as it enabled me to visualise my fmp in a broader sense, but then narrow it down based on the areas I’m most gravitated towards. I have a few ideas on what I want to do form my final project and a few themes I would like to approach, however, I do think it’s a bit early to have my mind all set on one idea. I change my ideas really quickly, this has always been an issue for me, because I get bored or demotivated if I am working on a project for too long.

From the tutorial, I realised that film and illustration are my main focus and the directions I see myself working in the future. For my fmp, I want to produce work that will be good in my portfolio following this careers options.

I like to work on projects based on personal experiences, I believe my work is very emotional and personal, I am strong believer on having fun while I am creating, although I enjoy too working on heavier themes I prefer to produce work around a simple, positive message in hopes to inspire someone and/or make someone smile.

FMP initial ideas and thoughts | Week 6th of April

I am not happy with my performance in this course so far, I feel like I am learning and growing constantly but my work isn’t a reflection on this. All the projects and briefs, so far, have been exciting and free, but I didn’t take a smart advantage of this, my confidence is a bit low at this stage so, for my fmp, I want to work on something that personal and I will enjoy the process.

I have already a few short-films and commercials in my portfolio, so I am towards into making a book. For a while now I have been wanting to make a book combining poetry and illustration.

Books, Poetry, illustration, are my biggest joy, what I love to do the most, lately, have been my biggest escape from the madness, when I’m reading or painting is when I can turn off from the outside world, and be in this bubble I created. Like my own meditation ball. There is so much going on at the moment so it has been challenging to stay positive, motivated and even to be creative. There is so much negativity in the air that making a project around something light, joyful, positive makes a lot sense now. I want create an outlet for myself and for others.

FMP concept development | Week 13th of April

A book.

It is really hard to pick a theme for a book, for a project, with so many directions to look, I don’t want to put myself in the position of working around a heavy theme.

I want to collaborate with many people, it’s me distracting myself and creating a distraction for others. So, the key idea is collaboration. I have many talented friends and I thought I could ask some of them to write me a little something.

The book will have 22 poems/texts for the 22 arcade cards of the tarot deck. Each person will pick a card and interpret in their own way. They will start from the main theme (ex: the lovers) and from there write about whatever the theme of the card makes them feel. The meaning of the card works as starting point, an initial feeling which leads to something bigger.

The exciting part is that I am collaborating with various writers, from different ages, different cultures. I want to celebrate diversity and different ways of thinking. Everyone has their own beautiful way of using words and seeing the world. After that, I will make an illustration, my interpretation of what they wrote.

I am really excited about this project, it took me a while to get here, trying to have an amazing idea for the final major project is really stressful, the crazy pressure was creating a massive block in my mind. I think this way my book will be much more free, every card has a different theme but all based on life experiences, so this will be a book of personal experiences, personal feelings and stories. Each page will take you on a singular journey of mine and that person’s mind. I think I am creating something really interesting and different here.

This will be a challenge for me due to the amount of work. I am relying on a lot of people, where I can only illustrate when someone sends me a poem (or text). It will be a very interesting process.

Today, I wrote a poem. I decided I wanted to have the last page: the last card, which is <The world>

The Yellow Tangerine tree brings me home.

Sweet and orange scented, white blossoms with prominent petals. The melody of the tangerine tree attracts bees, hummingbirds and me.

Every morning I see it through my window.

I had to leave the Yellow Tangerine tree behind, yet I carry her smell of freedom wherever I go.

When there is a silence I can hear an echo of that humming sound and for those moments, I’m home.

FMP concept overview | Week 13th of April

Yellow tangerine is an A5 book. It is a collaboration between 15 writers and myself. It will feature the writers points of view on various themes and my interpretation of them through illustration. Inside you will read about love, friendship, motherhood; self-love and sexuality; chaos and death, overall a celebration and acceptance of new beginnings.

My initial inspiration were the tarot cards, very briefly, Tarot cards do not tell the future; rather, tarot is a tool for spiritual guidance and enables the person receiving the reading to connect to his or her inner wisdom. Tarot readings help a person understand what he or she needs to know about a particular situation. Decks are best used as a tool of inner wisdom and guidance, as readings give a person insight to past, current and future events based on the person’s current path at the time of the reading. The cards do not necessarily reveal what will happen, but instead, allow a person to gain an understanding of a situation and determine the best course of action based on what is known and what the cards show.

It will be 22 texts and 22 illustrations, they will represent The Major Arcana Cards (for example: the fool; the magician; the lovers; death). The Major Arcana Cards are the most recognizable and impactful cards in a Tarot deck. These 22 cards represent situations we all face in the grand scheme of life, with each carrying a specific message of perspective and guidance to help you in times of need.

However, this book is not about tarot, the cards only work as starting points; each card has a meaning, a theme (an upright and a reversed one) that the writer uses as an initial feeling.

I believe the target audience for this book is from 16 to 25 years old, due to the style of illustration and contents.

We live a habit of overloaded time and information. With so many directions to look at, we forget to look to ourselves, for most of us books and films are what keeps us sane and distracted. This book is no more than that: an escape. It is, hopefully, a smile on someone’s face. This project is giving me motivation and inspired me I hope it will you.

FMP Online tutorial 01 | 16/04/2020

This morning, I had my first online small group tutorial, with Kieron, whereby I shared the direction of my FMP. During the session, I discussed my concept, general themes, audience and some references, alongside my plan of action for the duration of this project. Overall, everyone seemed excited about my project, however slightly worried that is many different things too focus on.

It is important I stay ORGANISED, I have many different writers and I am relying on them to proceed with my work, I can only illustrate when I have a poem.

Today I had my second tutorial with Kieron and Joe, I shared my ideas and the references I have been looking at.

I didn’t have much to share today, because only one person sent me her poem so far, Kieron shared some concerns whether I am going to be able to have all poems and illustrations until the hand-in.

Although I didn’t have much feedback from today, it was nice to see the girls and chat about their projects.

My second poem was writen by Susana Proença. Her card is <The hight priestess>. It is a beautiful poem, Susana is 45 years old, her perspective on this card is so pure and mature. Almost all the wirters are portuguese speakers, although most of them want to write in English, some are not very comfortable in doing so. I decided this wouldn’t be an issue, as I think it is interesting to have both languages in my book. My solution is to put a small translation under the poem.

FMP change of plans | 27/04/2020

I am now back at home, I decided to come back to Portugal during the lock-down, I feel safer here and I want to be around my family. However, all this change and moving is really getting onto me. I am still excited about this project and my book, but, I feel like I need a slightly change of plans.

This week, I have been trying to illustrate the poems I have already. While working on the poem by Catarina Gracias, instead of having ideas for an illustration I was having ideas for a short-film. I can’t help myself, can’t I? As soon as, I read the poem I thought of my sister Filipa and now, being back at home in lock-down, I am spending so much time with her, this whole idea of a short-film is really coming alive in my head. I want to make this for her and with her.

At the beginning, I told myself I wouldn’t do a short-film for my fmp, especially now that we are in quarantine its even harder, because we can’t shoot outside.

But when I was trying to illustrate the poem, nothing good was coming out of it, all this pressure to make beautiful drawings is demotivating me (I can’t work like this) and I am slightly worried I won’t have all the poems in time for that hand-in. I realized if I can’t illustrate because of all the pressure, the stress and negativity around, so the writers can’t write, it’s just not enough time. I still want to make the book, but I prefer to do it with more time and less pressure, otherwise the book would feel too rushed and I wouldn’t like the final result. I will be still working on this along side my fmp and after the hand-in.

This short-film makes sense to me now, its a development from my initial idea. This poem is inspiring me so much and now, it’s all I think about. I guess, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t change my project at this stage.

FMP new concept and references | Week 27th of April

For the tutorial this week, I want to have a clear idea and overview of my film, I want to make a treatment and get together some references I’ve been looking at to feel inspired again. I have many ideas in my head for this film, after I get some feedback on the tutorial, I will start on the story-board, script and then shooting. My sister is very excited to be on the film, it is great that I am working with her (and my other sister, she will be my assistant while shooting), because we can shoot at home, at any time and with no filters.

It is really hard to stay motivated while in quarantine, so to stay inspired I’ve been watching films, short-films, videos, animations, reading books.

I call my self lucky, because I live next to the beach and there is where I feel my most calm and inspired. When I read the poem, an instant image that came to my mind, was my sister walking towards the water. On the beach is where me and my family have our most amazing memories and as this film is very personal and about my sister, I want the beach, the water, the blue sky and sunsets to be a big part in my film. To bring a peaceful image to my audience, for those who don’t have the chance to go to the beach I hope seeing my film will bring them some nostalgia.

I am quite fascinated by experimental films. For example, Marcel Duchamp, Anemic Cinema or Ballet Mechanique by Fernando lager and Dudley Murphy. I enjoy the surreal and the abstract although, some of this films feel like they are purely visual so they can become quite daunting after a while, I take inspiration from these artists, but I want my film to take you on a journey, I enjoy story-telling so, in my film I want to have the poem appear in subtitles so the viewer feels connected and a part of it. I want you to fall in love with the character, and maybe relate with her. and feel something.

FMP tutorial 03 | 30/04/2020

In today’s tutorial, I expressed my worries of the moment, I explained that one month is not enough to make this book, having a deadline is great because it makes me more focused and doesn’t let me wonder, I work better under deadlines however, I don’t want this book to feel rushed, because is something I deeply care about and want to do with care and attention, I need time to make the illustrations and I need to give time to the writers too.

I presented my second idea and showed my treatment. Kieron said he saw this coming, but not in a negative way, he explained that I shouldn’t be putting this kind of pressure on me, especially in the current times we are living, we are supposed to be enjoying ourselves, he showed a lot more interest in this idea and said I seemed more excited about it.

Agnes is a huge inspiration to me, more especially now, she makes work that is very personal and unique, she has a beautiful way of looking at people, landscapes and everyday things, she captures them in the most poetic ways. Today, I saw daisies by Věra Chytilová, I’ve been wanting to see this film for quite a while now. The story revolves around two female friends, the duo, both called Marie and fashionably dolled-up, likes to dine with older men, playing a game of escorts: The dates are fixed to be the brunette’s, but the blonde shows up unannounced, feigns to be the brunette’s sister, orders a full meal, for which the gentlemen inevitably pay, and unceremoniously stuffs her face. “I have a big appetite,” she warns, while interrogating them about their wives.

They believe the only way to behave in a world as spoiled as ours is to become spoiled too, so they disrupt, distort and corrupt every situation they encounter. As you’d hope for from a film dealing with absolute freedom, there’s not much plot to speak of, but such an experimental approach offers no hindrance to the political and philosophical message, or the considerable fun to be had. There are many well choreographed scenes, I love the amazing detailed attention from the scenarios to the wardrobe and make up. This is the kind of film that you have to adapt to in order to get the most from - it makes few concessions to the viewer - although the ever-present humour is there for you to latch on to. Using many inventive styles - animation, musical numbers, stock footage and slapstick - it’s free form yet controlled, and yet still radical enough for it to have been banned in its homeland.

FMP Shooting week | Week 11th of May

When I read and interpret the poem I think of opposites and contrasts - she’s both day and night - I want to focus on this feeling, on this duality. I am going to do this by creating a two part film, where in the first part: we have scenes at the beach (the outside bringing a sense of tranquillity and calmness) - she is day - and in the second part, we have scenes in her bedroom (the inside bringing a sense of uncertainty) - she is night - these are more strong and heavy shots in tones of black and red, I will do this by projecting colours and shapes onto to the character - this will bring a sense of chaos and confusion.

I believe this transition from the peaceful blue to the bold red will be quite strong however, this is the purpose, the poem describes a person that is unpredictable and impulsive, to me, it makes sense that this transition feels heavy.

In the first part of the poem, she talks about her fears and insecurities she has for this person (for my sister) however, the scenes at the beach will appear peaceful and safe. There’s this thing about the sea that is calm and brings you calmness but also is very unpredictable and scary. My sister is like the ocean, one day it is okay to get in and swim, some days you have to stay away and give space.

I think filming at the beach and filming the ocean describes for me, this feeling in the poem. The scenes in the bedroom are a more personal and emotional touch, she is letting you in but only for a little while. This is when you get to know the character, the poem is describing her - inspiration and freedom; life and spirit - and you are seeing glimpses of her beauty.

I want to finish the film with a shot of the full moon - she always knew how to shine - I want this shot to be the final one, because this is where you feel safe that no matter what the moon will always shine and I am just a call away, that is safe to open up and let people in.

I will spend this week filming at the beach and in my bedroom.

FMP Tutorial 04 | 14/05/2020

This morning I had my tutorial with Kieron, I am enjoying this morning tutorials a lot, cause its like being back at uni which I have to say, I miss quite a bit.

I haven’t started editing the film so I didn’t have much to show today, I have been filming all week, going back and forth between the beach and setting up the scenario in my bedroom, I feel confident in the shots and I am in a good stage at this moment.

In today’s tutorial the main focus was on the sound, I expressed that I haven’t found the perfect music yet, and asked for some advice. For me, this is one of the most important parts when editing a film, the music creates the balance and if it’s the wrong one, it can ruin the whole film. I have recorded the sound of the waves crashing which I will have at the beginning of the film. I am non-stop listening to music to find the perfect one.

Kieron said too, that I need to focus on this part just as equal as the others. He also mentioned if I was going to have a voice over reading the poem. This has been a possibility since the beginning. I am thinking of using my other sister who has a sweet and young voice, that I think it would fit perfectly with the tone of the film, first, I need to edit the film and then record her to the rhythm of the scenes.

Production Work: The cameras are rolling!

For all of our filming, we used Jin’s Nikon D80 as well as her dolly and slider. The tripod, and external lighting kits were all borrowed from the university.

General Filming Overview (January 20 2017)

Jin and I had multiple different shoot dates across January and February. Because all of the participants for series 1 were confirmed, we went ahead and shot the interviews for each of them. Jin’s phenomenal camera work managed to capture the interviews using different angels and we positioned each of the participants differently after answering a question. Instead of just placing them in front of a boring white wall, Jin and I tested out various spots for our interviewees to sit in while we filmed them so that the background complimented the video appropriately (see the fonts/colour scheme section down below in postproduction). We shot each of the interviews on our university campus and in different flats of friends we know. While Jin handled the camera, my contribution was to prep the participants and manage the lighting. Several months before shooting we had master classes on both sound and light techniques that we used during our shoot sessions. Brendan Crehan, an industry professional led a workshop to teach us more on the use of diegetic and non-diegetic sound. He helped us prep for interviews and went in depth about various mic placements for effective sound recording. During these classes, Jin and I practiced constructing our shots and used appropriate lighting and microphones to practice setting up for our interviews. As theory suggests, “A lavalier microphone is the small mic you often see attached to the lapel, tie or blouse of news anchors. These small mics are ideal for recording audio from a single individual during an interview or presentation. The pickup pattern of a lav mic is generally omnidirectional, but because it is placed so close to the speaker’s mouth, nominal background noise be unnoticed once the levels are set on the recording device” (Harrington, 2011: 43).

It was clear that we had to use a lav mic for our interviews but Brendan gave us a tutorial of how to use shot gun mics so we could get a feel of how both mics work.

The trickiest part of shooting was trying our best not to capture the background noise. All of our interviews were in locations where there was air conditioning and as a result, the sound that we captured was not as clear as we hoped because of the excessive background noise. Luckily, we managed to fix that in the postproduction stage in Audition. For all of our participant’s interviews, we wanted them to be placed in different backgrounds that had neutral colours. Jin and I had agreed that our film would stick with a certain colour scheme and we wanted to make sure that our footage would gel well with the text on screen. My contribution in the actual shooting of the film was to ensure that the lights and backgrounds were perfect for the shot, placed the microphones onto each of our participants and help Jin by placing the cameras in different angles.

On Set Experience

My experience on set was simply fantastic. I personally found it to be the most fun and I enjoyed seeing my film come together in real time. Jin and I experimented around a little with backgrounds and move things here and there to ensure that we made best use of the space and so that we could get a clearer shot of our participants.

I also suggested to Jin that we should film our participants from different angles as it was one of the features we liked from the above Buzzfeed video and so that our viewers could focus on our interviewees but not get bored of the same exact view. We integrated a bit of theory while onset to help us frame out interview shots. As suggested in Shoot to sell, “staying on the same shot, like a medium shot, of even the most interesting person soon gets boring. If a person is using their hands to communicate, include them, they help tell the story. During more intense or intimate times, slowly zoom in for a drastic effect. Frequently you see the shot framed so that the interviewee is looking not at the viewer but off axis, at the interviewer who is out of the frame. In this case there should be more space in the frame in front of the interviewee’s face than behind their head, otherwise they will look claustrophobic. In other words, they should be looking out of the frame with more room in front” (Smith and Miller, 2012: 133).

We used framing tips to help guide us and set up our camera in order to shoot our participants.

Shooting series 1: We used some of these rules from the above book and found them to be quite useful as they helped us get very good and “not so boring” interview shots. The whole point of series 1 was to instil in the viewers that there is a problem of too much screen time and so focusing in on the interviewees and capturing what they had to say was extremely important. A combination of good angles, strong lighting and neutral backgrounds ensured that we got clean and professional looking footage. Each participant was placed in one spot against a background that we liked for the entire interview. All we simply did was change the angle of the camera so that we captured their responses from different perspectives. However, on set we realised that the air conditioning was a big problem and caused our audio to have a lot of unnecessary background noise despite using good quality lav mics. Unfortunately, one of our interviews with Mariah (one of our participants) was shot outside on a very windy day and as a result, we had to re film her indoors because the sound quality was just terrible. After filming our participants for series 1, we were ready to move into filming series 3. Unfortunately, we still did not find a specialist for series 2 but decided to worry about that only after filming series 3.

Shooting series 3:

Series three was all about alternatives to screen time and we had to travel around London to get good footage to complete this series. Jin and I travelled to: Canary Wharf, Canada Water Library, Southwark Park, Sky Gardens, London bridge and even did a bit of filming in Jin’s flat. Before going out to film, we had made a set list of alternatives to put in the last series and that list generated our list of shots needed. From making tea to going for a run to even exploring local hotspots, Jin and I had a great time going around London to capture and film the various alternatives however, it was a bit more challenging than filming the first series. How so? Jin and I had to film a few scenes outdoors, and the weather along with background noises were all unpredictable. Jin and I planned each outdoor shoot by checking the weather in advance and tried to position ourselves in all of these locations where there were fewer people and cars. We were delighted to know that the footage we captured did not have too much unwanted background noise and since we planned on putting some music on in the background for series 3, we did not have to clean too much of the audio for this series in Audition. My biggest contribution for filming series 3 was organising the locations for the shoot and filming most of the shots at Southwark Park. Jin also introduced some new equipment for us to use while filming: a dolly and a slider. The camera work included moving the camera in unique ways for which we required this apparatus. For instance, one of the alternatives was to visit a local hotspot in the area and so we visited Sky Gardens in London to capture some gorgeous footage of greenery and flowers. We used a slider to capture flowers from inside plant pots and found it to be a successful way of of adding visual creativity to our shots. We also used a dolly as platform on the surface of a rocky concrete floor to create smooth movements of someone posting a letter inside a postbox.

Finally after obtaining footage for series 1 and 3, we were ready to start editing what we had. And.. there was finally hope in finding a specialist.

Shooting series 2:

FINALLY and LUCKILY, a week before moving everything into Premiere, I managed to get in touch with a friend of mine who works for a technology company and has a minor in psychology. He was the perfect person to ask! It was extremely silly of me to have not remembered contacting him before. After very little persuasion, my friend Akash Hirani agreed to be our specialist. We filmed Akash in a meeting room at Landale House in Canada Water, with orange and yellow sofas and the background fit very well with our colour scheme… (see the fonts/colour scheme section down below). We filmed Akash from different angles and I helped brief him on what sort of information we were looking for. I had also set up the lighting kits around Akash because the room in which we filmed him in was fairly dark. Akash gave us some insightful views on what too much screen time does to our eyes and outlined the social, physical and emotional (three subtopics) caused by too much screen time. Each of these subtopics was shot at different angles so that our viewers would not get bored and this way it would give them a three dimensional immersive experience. Jin and I planned to incorporate graphics and icons with each of the subtopics discussed and therefor planned our interview with Akash such that there was a little headroom as well as some empty white wall space in our footage so that we would place these icons smoothly in postproduction.
