Thanksgiving's Little Miracle: Happy Birthday, Malia!

This absolutely precious and heartwarming art is by the lovely, ArtbyAinna. Not me setting every alarm and notification possible to make sure I got a November slot just for this moment! 😌💛

The open curtains invited the November sunlight into the room, its golden rays casting a gentle warmth despite the cool Boston temperature outside. Soft, hushed whispers of nurses' footsteps and distant murmurs from the hallway occasionally drifted in, creating a familiar symphony for the parents.

Bryce and Olivia rested nestled in her hospital bed, enraptured by their newborn daughter, Malia. 

"Look," Olivia whispered, her voice infused with wonder, "she's opening her eyes."

Bryce leaned closer, his heart swelling with affection as her eyes fluttered shut once more. "She's got your eyes," he remarked softly.

"And your nose," Olivia added, a gentle chuckle dancing in her voice. Her eyes welled as she marveled at their beautiful daughter, unable to take her gaze off of her. She had spent months patiently waiting for this moment, wondering what she would look like, what she would sound like, and what her personality would be. Now, she was here. All those long months of waiting were worth every second because they brought her to this moment.

Malia lay nestled, her chest rising and falling in a gentle rhythm, soothed by the comforting murmur of her parents' voices.

"She's so small," Bryce admired, his voice tinged with awe. His fingers brushed over her tiny hands that wrapped around him in response

"But she's ours." 

Malia let out a soft whimper, prompting Olivia to soothe her with a gentle sway. Bryce readjusted her blankets, tucking her safely back into its embrace.

"I'm thankful for our little miracle," she murmured, planting a soft kiss on Malia's forehead. "For her health, her warmth, and the love we will share with her."

Bryce's hand found Olivia's, intertwining their fingers. "I'm thankful for you. For your strength, your love, and for bringing our beautiful girl into this world." 

His arm wrapped around his wife, his lips pressing a lingering kiss on the top of her head. He shook his head slightly to the sides in disbelief, not sure how he could have ever gotten so lucky. He stole a glance at his little girl, his eyes filled with tears. There was so much he'd share with her, a world of possibilities to give her. But for now, she had everything she could need, and so did he.

As they savored this intimate moment with Malia, their phones buzzed softly with messages on the table by the window. 

"I can't wait for her to meet everyone," Olivia whispered, cradling their daughter as she leaned into his embrace. 

Bryce nodded, pride gleaming in his eyes as he held the two halves of his world in his arms. "Me too," he whispered and pressed another kiss on the crown of her head. "But not yet. Let's just stay here a while longer."

Her lips curved into a serene smile. "That sounds perfect," she murmured softly, content to let the moment linger for as long as they could.

Synopsis: There is just one last gift that needs to be wrapped.

"Looks like we still have one to go." 

Surveying the chaotic scene, Olivia took in the scattered array of wrapped gifts, crumpled paper, and an assortment of ribbons, bows, and boxes strewn across the room. Despite the mess, one thing became apparent—there were no more gifts left to wrap as far as her eyes could reach. The new mother questioned with concern, "What am I missing?"

Bryce chuckled mischievously as he dashed towards an empty box. With a wink, he hopped inside, fixing a large bow he had grabbed on his head. "Oh, just the best present of all."

Olivia couldn't help but roll her eyes, fighting back a smile at his playful antics. After a marathon last-minute wrapping session, she felt exhausted, knowing that Malia would soon wake from her nap. "What are you doing in there?"

He pressed one hand to his hips, the other framing his face handsomely. "Don't you want to know what the last present is?" His lips pulled up in a devilish smirk.

"I think I can guess..." she frowned. "We agreed..." It had been just over four weeks since her delivery, but they had agreed to wait closer to six. 

"Give me a chance‚" He extended his arm toward her. "I promise, you won't be disappointed." 

Reluctantly, she inched closer until she laced her hand with his.

"The last thing to wrap—" He whispered, drawing her closer. "—Is my arms around you."

Olivia found her smile impossible to contain as he drew her into his warm embrace. A playful giggle escaped her lips as she nuzzled her face into the curve of his neck. She looped her arms around him, savoring the comfort and stillness of the moment. 

"Sometimes, being with you feels so much like a dream—" Bryce murmured softly, his fingers dancing delicately through her hair "—and I don’t ever want to wake up." 

"Bryce—" his name slipped quietly from her lips. She turned her head up to meet his eyes. The warmth of the lights glistened in his adoring gaze. Her voice was tender, "This, right here, with you and Malia—it's the most beautiful dream come true. I couldn't think of anyone better to share my life with."

His lips rested against her forehead, pressing a lingering kiss. "You're the greatest gift I didn't know I needed."

The twinkling Christmas tree bathed the room in a warm, comforting glow as Olivia and Bryce swayed gently to the soft Christmas melodies playing in the background. Each sway brought them closer to one another, their hearts beating together. 

Amidst the busyness of the season, small moments like this reminded them that despite the lights, the decorations, and the presents, the only thing they truly needed was this: the love between them and their daughter sleeping soundly, knowing that when she woke she'd be showered in adoration.

Impossibly Perfect

Synopsis: Bryce, Olivia, and Keiki are taking a walk through the park on their way to do some last minute Christmas shopping.

Winter's familiar embrace painted the city of Boston with frosty enchantment. Bryce and Olivia strolled through the snow covered park. Seasonally appropriate Santa hats rested upon their heads, while they held candy canes in their hands. The swirling red and white of the sweet treats tempted them to take the first lick. The peppermint treat had been a token of gratitude from a Santa collecting donations for a children's charity near the park's entrance— a cause Bryce and Olivia had generously supported.

The pair strolled closely together, their fingers entwined between them, as they made their way down the snowy path. Olivia held out her candy cane in front of her, gesturing for Bryce to do the same. She tipped hers toward his, the two meeting to form a simple heart. 

"Perfect!" Olivia cheerfully exclaimed, the heat of her breath creating a frosty trail in the wintry air.

Bryce's eyes sparkled as he gazed at Olivia. "Yes, you are."

"Bryce," his name slipped shyly from her lips as her gaze drifted down. 

“I mean it.” His fingers delicately brushed a loose strand of hair away from her face. “My only resolution is to love you and Malia even more next year.”

“I love you so much.” Olivia's cheeks flushed brightly with happiness, her smile spreading wide across her face. "How did I get so lucky?" 

"Ugh!" Keiki turned back toward the sound of the giggling couple. "Gross!" she quipped, pretending to gag on her own candy cane, which she had shaped into a dangerous point. "Seriously, if I wanted to watch a Hallmark Movie, I would be at your house every day. Note, that I am not."

"Sorry, Keiki." Olivia's cheeks warmed as she buried her face in Bryce's arm. 

"It's more him than you!" Her gaze narrowed on her brother. "We all knew you were a sunshine person. You even look like you could be one of the leads."

"I take offense to that," he feigned indignation. "I think I'm handsome enough to be a leading man."

"Keep telling yourself that, bro." Keiki rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "When is your paternity leave up? I think your brain is going soft."

"In a couple more weeks," Bryce replied. "And my brain is doing very well, thanks for your concern. Malia and I have been reading a lot of medical journals together. We also have been working on the alphabet. It's about balance.”

"Don't forget the animal sounds," Keiki teased. "I've heard a lot of those lately, too."

Bryce pulled Keiki closer, wrapping his arms around his sister. He pressed a kiss on the top of her head before tussling her hair slightly. "One day, you'll be here, where we are, and you'll get it." 

"Maybe," she shrugged. "But for now—" She shoved him away, holding out her candy cane dagger toward him. "You can keep your hands to Olivia."

"I like the sound of that—"

"Ughhh," Keiki groaned. "You're impossible." 

"It must be a family trait," he winked, his brow arching at her. 

"I'll show you impossible!" Keiki scooped up a handful of snow, molding it swiftly into a ball before throwing it at Bryce.  

Bryce dodged Keiki's snowball and retaliated with one of his own.

Right on cue, Olivia thought to herself, a warm smile spreading on her face. All that was missing was a fresh flurry of snow to seal the moment. She watched the siblings chase each other through the field, snowballs being tossed between them. 

Keiki might not want to admit it but her life was more like a movie than she realized. Just a few years ago, she had flown 5,000 miles to escape her parents and reunite with a brother whom she hadn't seen in years, only to find the happiness and family she had always wanted with Bryce, Olivia, and now her niece, Malia. None of it had been without its trials, but what in life wasn't? Life was about holding onto the good and learning from the bad. And this little family, treasured moments like this, because just being together was always more than enough.

A/N: Malia is at home with Olivia's parents who are spending time with their granddaughter aka spoiling her rotten.

I HC that if Keiki is around when there is a Hallmark movie on with Holland Roden, that she always makes a comment, like see, you could be in one of these movies.

Our Little Pumpkin

Synopsis: Olivia and Bryce are on the quest for the perfect pumpkin.

Bryce and Olivia's footsteps crunched softly over the fallen leaves as they wandered through the enchanting pumpkin patch. The air was crisp and carried the scent of the autumn, a blend of earthy soil and the rich, warm aroma of ripening pumpkins.

At almost eight months pregnant, Olivia glowed, her hands lovingly caressing her round belly. The setting sun cast a warm, golden hue over the patch. Her fiery hair was set ablaze by the lighting.

"What about this one?" Bryce knelt beside a tall, reddish-orange pumpkin. Olivia's head tipped to the side, studying it. "Still not quite right."

"Are you sure?" He used his sleeve to wipe a patch of dirt off the top. "It would clean up nicely."

"Nope, it's not the one," she decided, continuing down the row of pumpkins. 

Bryce followed his wife. He knew not to argue over a pumpkin, even if she had turned down twelve perfectly good ones already. Maybe the thirteenth would be the charm!

"That one!" Olivia pointed to a wide, robust orange pumpkin buried partially in the dirt. 

"Are you sure?" He squatted beside it, pushing back the dark leaves that hid some of the beautiful pumpkin.

"That's the one!" She smiled, still cradling her stomach. 

Bryce carefully clipped the pumpkin from the vine, lifting it by the base. "What do you think?"

"This is perfect," she whispered, her eyes sparkling with delight as she reached for the round pumpkin.

Bryce chuckled, his love for her radiating in his gaze. "What makes this one the right one?"

"Our little mermaid said so." She held her hand out to him. 

His brow rose curiously. He shifted the pumpkin into his left arm, carefully holding it by its base. He let her guide his right hand over her stomach. He smiled as his daughter shifted beneath his fingertips. "You like this one?" 

Their daughter kicked gently as if in response. Olivia's face lit up with joy. "Did you hear that? I think she likes the pumpkin and she likes your voice, Daddy."

"I guess that settles that then!" He smiled wide. "I can't argue with our little girl. She knows what she likes, just like her Mama!" 

He leaned forward, attempting to brush a kiss on her forehead, but the pumpkin in his arms bumped against her belly, keeping them apart. The happy parents couldn't help but laugh, their daughter still kicking happily at the sound of their joy.

Bryce held the pumpkin against his stomach, mimicking Olivia's pose. "What do you think of this?" 

Olivia giggled, her laughter a cheerful melody carried in the gentle breeze. She held her belly, leaning toward Bryce. "Will you be carrying that around for the next 6 weeks too?"

"If it would make you and our little girl smile, absolutely." He rubbed his fingers along the cool, smooth sides of the pumpkin. 

"As adorable as you'd look with a pumpkin in your arms for the next month or so, I think I'd like you best without it. There's only room for one little pumpkin between us, and that's this one." She pointed to her stomach. 

Bryce placed the pumpkin on the ground between them, his arms wrapping around Olivia as he drew her closer. Without the pumpkin between them, Bryce's lips found Olivia's forehead. His lips were warm against her cool skin as he brushed a tender kiss there. "I can't wait to meet our little mermaid... or pumpkin. Whatever she is, she'll be ours, and that's perfect." 

"Soon." Olivia smiled as she shifted her head slightly from side to side, rubbing her nose against his. "Soon, we'll have a lifetime of adventures ahead of us with our little one." 

Bryce smiled, tears of happiness glistening in his eyes. "I'm still amazed every day that we're going to be parents."

Olivia leaned in closer, her voice a gentle whisper filled with love. "And you'll be an amazing dad, Bryce, just like you are an amazing husband."

"I'll try to be the man you believe me to be."

"You already are," she smiled, kissing him softly. "I know it, and so does our little one. Now, let's get this little pumpkin home." 

Bryce scooped up the pumpkin in his arms. "Can't forget our little pumpkin's first pumpkin." 

"No, we can't!"

And in that moment, amid the autumn's embrace, they knew that every pumpkin they picked, every laugh they shared, and every kick from their unborn daughter was a promise of the beautiful journey awaiting them.

Cuddled close on the cozy blanket spread across their sunlit living room floor, Bryce and Olivia found themselves in a tender embrace, their newborn daughter, Malia, snuggled between them, basking in the warmth of the moment.

As Bryce hummed a lullaby, his fingertips traced gentle circles on Malia's tiny stomach, creating a soothing rhythm. Olivia nestled closer, her cheek grazing Malia's precious head. "She's so perfect, isn't she?"

Their whispers were hushed melodies, gentle notes of adoration lulling Malia to peaceful slumber. Together, they shared their hopes and dreams for her, their words full of wonder and enchantment.

Bryce glanced at Olivia, his heart overwhelmed with gratitude for the family they'd created. "She's got your smile," he whispered, placing a gentle kiss on his daughter's forehead. Even in sleep, Malia seemed to reflect her parents' joy.

Olivia beamed, her eyes sparkling with love. "And she's already so curious, just like her daddy."

"My curiosity?" He challenged with a raise of his brow. "Which of us could say tonsillectomy by age 5 and new all 206 bones by 8? Because, that? That was not me."

Her nose scrunched as she shook her head bashfully. "You're being too modest. Your mom has sent me photos of your magnificent Lego constructions. That takes curiosity, imagination, and engineering skills!" 

"You're right. I was pretty great, wasn't I?" The smirk that formed settled into an adoring smile quickly after as his gaze returned back to his daughter. "So, I guess...we just need a Lego Human anatomy set for her?"

"I did see a Lego MRI scanner!" Olivia agreed readily. 

The doting parents marveled at their baby girl. She was so tiny; it was hard to imagine all she could become. Whatever it would be, would be perfect because it would be hers, and they'd love her for it. 

I know this is pointless fluff but I just love them and sometimes (always) I just need some self-indulgent fluff! 🥺

She pried open her tired eyes at the sound of Malia's cry.

"I'll get her," Bryce offered, pressing a kiss on his sleepy wife's forehead. "You rest." 

Olivia nodded, the darkness in the room already drawing her back to sleep. "She probably needs to be changed. She ate not long ago," Olivia mumbled, settling back into her pillow with a giant yawn.

"I can handle that. Try to get some rest." 

The heaviness of sleep overcame her quickly. Her lips curled up in the corners as she drifted off, listening to Bryce's soothing tone as he doted over Malia. 

"What time is it?" Her eyes widened. The once-dark room overflowed with warm, golden sunbeams. She popped up in worry, but Malia's soft coo beside her pulled her back.

"We're right here." Bryce's fingers threaded tenderly through her hair. "We're okay."

Olivia relaxed, turning into Malia, her smile growing.

"We got cleaned up, changed, and even did some reading," Bryce reported proudly. 

Olivia stroked her daughter's arm softly, kissing her little nose. "And, what fun book did you read?"

"I thought our future doctor should get started on her research—" Bryce smiled, gesturing to Malia's choice of onesie. "We were reading Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. Our future surgeon needs to know where to cut."

"Bryce!" 

"What? Why are you looking at me like that? It has pictures!"

"Oh, Malia, what's daddy trying to get you to read?" Her head shifted to the sides softly. "There will be plenty of time for that when you're older."

"How much older?" Bryce questioned, his brow raising in concern.

Olivia hummed in consideration. "Five." 

"Fine. Five," he agreed reluctantly. "But, if she happens to glance at the book before then, I'm not stopping her."

She laughed at his insistence. "Sounds reasonable." Olivia couldn't help but marvel at their precious daughter, who had wrapped her tiny hand around her mother's finger guiding it into her mouth. 

"Someone needs to write better and more medically accurate children's medical texts." 

"That would be fun, wouldn't it." Olivia beamed, unable to take her gaze off Malia, who stretched out comfortably between them. "Maybe we'll have to make one for her."

"Luckily, she has two rockstar doctor parents to show her the way," Bryce boasted.

"Is that true?" Olivia cooed. "Yeah, it is! And just so you know, we'll love you no matter what, even if you're not a doctor."

"Right," Bryce agreed, kissing the crown of his daughter's head. "But we all know these are surgeon's hands, and it'd be a shame to waste them."

"Don't worry, sweetheart. You can be anything you want." Her gaze narrowed at her husband. 

"What?" Bryce feigned innocence.

Malia's eyes closed, lulled by the warmth of the sun and the sounds of her parents' voices.

"A dad can dream, can't he? Besides, we both know she's a daddy's girl. Aren't you, Lia?" His gaze drifted back to his sleeping daughter.

Olivia stifled her giggle, "looks like she's already ahead of you. I wonder what she's dreaming about." 

"Us," Bryce decided, unable to look away from his daughter. "And how loved she is and always will be, no matter what."

"No matter what," Olivia repeated.

The three of them rested, enjoying a short moment of peace and quiet beneath the glow of the morning sun blanketing the room. The future could wait. It would solve itself in time. Right now, all any of them needed was this— being together and being loved. And, that's all any of them would ever need.

Synopsis: Bryce has a special surprise for Olivia to celebrate her birthday (March 9).

Colorful decorations hung on the walls of the pediatric lounge. A large Happy Birthday sign covered the window. Multicolored balloons bobbed around the room, bright and cheerful cards dangling from the ends of their long, shiny gold ribbon. The room hummed with hushed excitement as little faces hid behind whatever they could find to be out of sight of the doorway. 

"I'll be right back!"

Bryce wrapped his arms around Olivia as he found her filling out charts at the nurses' station. "Got a minute?"

She shook her head lightly. "Really? Right now?"

"I'll make it quick!" He whispered into her ear, his breath tickling her sensitive skin. He pressed his lips to her neck, leaving a lingering kiss.

She shivered beneath his touch, her head clouding, thoughts of the file in front of her fading. Her face flushed, matching her copper hair. "Okay."

He grabbed her hand, pulling her forward before she could change her mind.

"Bryce," she giggled in reply as he practically dragged them at a sprint pace. "What's gotten into you?"

"You said quick." He shrugged with a wink in her direction, pressing onward.

Olivia's focus shifted back behind her as they passed by the supply closet they were familiar with (for reasons) without ever slowing. "Where are we going?"

"You'll see." His words dripped with mystery, his smile covering his entire place. 

They turned the corner heading to the end of the pediatric floor that overlooked the front of the hospital. 

"Bryce will you tell me what's going on," she demanded as he guided her forward. 

"Here we are!" Bryce made a quick turn into the pediatric wing's lounge.

Her confusion faded to wonder. "What is all this?" She marveled, her bright eyes glistening, her hand still in Bryce's as he turned back toward her.

A loud chorus of "Surprise" and "Happy Birthday" sang around her cutting off Bryce's reply as children with smiling faces popped out and others rushed into the room.

Olivia didn't know where to turn first. The once quiet scene quickly erupted into pleas for her to read the cards, each child hoping theirs would be the first. They ushered her forward, leaving Bryce to watch as the children doted over her, helping her to the couch and placing a paper crown on her head. Hugs and laughter filled the space as Olivia's heart swelled with adoration and appreciation from all the special attention. 

As the wave of children began to thin, a soft tug pulled at the end of her sleeve. Olivia looked down, finding one of her young patients, curling her finger back toward herself, requesting Olivia to move closer. 

"Happy Birthday," she cheered, throwing her arms around Olivia's neck. 

"Thank you, Maddy." She hugged the girl back.

"Can I tell you a secret," she whispered.

"Of course, you can." Olivia turned her head to the side.

Maddy whispered in her ear, "I think Dr. Bryce like likes you. Not regular like, but the really like likes!"

"You think so?" She feigned shock.

Maddy nodded fervently. "He's looking at you right now!"

Olivia glanced up, trying to temper her growing smile as she met Bryce's warm, adoring gaze. 

"Don't look!" Maddy quickly warned, throwing her little hands in front of Olivia's face. "But did you see his smile?"

"I did!"

"He smiled A LOT when he was telling us about the party. He helped us with our cards, too." 

Olivia couldn't help but steal another glance at Bryce, who was helping a little boy with his juice box. 

"Dr. Olivia?" 

"Yes, Maddy?"

"Do you like like Dr. Bryce back?" Her green eyes shimmered with promise. 

"Can I tell you a secret?"

"Yes! I'm real good at secrets. I never told anyone that my daddy took me for ice cream before dinner, twice! So, I'm a good secret keeper."

Olivia chuckled at the girl's innocence; she leaned closer. "I do like like Dr. Bryce."

"Eeee!" The little girl bounced up and down in place effortlessly as if propelled by an invisible trampoline. "I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" 

"Shh," Olivia attempted (and failed) to quiet her. "It's our secret, remember!"

"Oh yeah! Well, do you think you and Dr. Bryce will hold hands now? That's what people who like like each other do!" She nodded in agreement with her own words, her feet still bouncing as she danced in place. "Do you think—"

"Why don't we let Dr. Olivia get back to her party?" Maddy's mom swooped in to save Olivia from any more questions from her inquisitive daughter. "Sorry!"

"She's sweet. You know I love our Maddy girl!"

"Bye," Maddy waved before pointing to Bryce. "Go now!"

Olivia giggled, making her way to Bryce.

"What was that about?" His brow rose in question.

"A certain curious little girl seems to think that you might—" Olivia tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and batted her lashes shyly. "Well, she thought you might like like me and that maybe if you did, we should hold hands. What do you think about that?"

He laced his hand with hers, his thumb brushing over her knuckles in reply. 

"So it's true?" She challenged with wide eyes, nudging him playfully with her shoulder.

"It is. I do like like you, Dr. Olivia."

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Maddy bouncing again and tugging on her mom's arm while pointing at the two of them. Olivia smiled, brushing a kiss on Bryce's cheek. "I like like you, too, Dr. Bryce." 

A mix of cheers and ooo's surrounded them. Some patients covered their eyes and pulled their faces.

"Thank you for everything."

A/N: Today is Olivia's birthday so I wanted to write something special for her. I hope you enjoy this silly little story with my two favorite rays of sunshine. I know it's not perfectly polished but if I wanted to post on her birthday, I needed to finish up, so here we are.

One of my favorite stories featuring Bryce, Olivia, and Keiki is Unicorn Wishes & Mermaid Kisses. It's just a fun, family bonding, summer moment for them. Plus, the ice cream store I invented here is like my dream ice cream shop and if I ever won the lottery, you bet I'd be starting it!

Once again, Ainna (ArtbyAinna) has outdone herself. I am blown away by this portrait of my babies. She captured everything beautifully, even my ridiculously elaborate ice cream orders for them.
