Kukeri (Bulgarian: кукери; singular: kuker, кукер) are elaborately costumed Bulgarian men, who perform traditional rituals intended to scare away evil spirits.

Kukeri - originates from the old Slavic word "kuka," which means an evil spirit. The pagan festival is a centuries-old Bulgarian tradition where people dance through the streets in scary masks, animal skins and loud bells.

Redraw of an old idea I had, the gaang if they were Bulgarian/South Slavic.
Aang is inspired by shepherd's clothing mostly as well as some North- and Central- West Bulgarian clothing. Same for Sokka, but mostly CW (from the Shop region). Katara is a mix of Rhodope mountain and again CW styles. The butterflies are just so they don't stare in empty space lol

Samovila - the antithesis to the Samodiva. Some stories describe these mountain dwellers as spiteful who wish to avenge their harmed sisters. Others say they are Samodivas whose veil was once stolen by humans who wished to enslave them. In any case, a Samovila is a force of nature that brings calamities and disasters wherever she goes.
So yeah, basically, a more based variant of the Samodiva.
And what could one do to protect themselves from the curse of a Samovila? Garlic, of course, the universal evil creature deterrent!

- Нямаше ме дълго, творческата криза и прегарянето дойдоха в неподходящия момент… И продължиха почти цялото лято - I was gone for a long time, creative crisis and burnout came at the wrong time.. And lasted most of the summer

hello! :)
my name is graves for who didn't know - i'm an artist and i've been growing on my platforms. i created my account not long ago but i'm doing good on here. i am bisexual, hypersexual, and i deal with low iron deficiency
i'm not a super good speaker with english with the super super big words but i can speak well, i don't think i'm very good with grammar tho. i come from albania, bulgaria, turkey! i speak all three languages fluently so i hope to get some mutuals who can do the same :D
Tumblr media
i use emoticons to express more deeply because i'm not sure if my wording ever does enough - i often switch to my native languages randomly and i write speech/info on my drawings so i'll translate them when needed for my english followers
i'm a super big fan of elden ring, ghost of tsushima, yakuza, and mortal kombat!! they're my top favorite games :3

Samodiva – Now, that's a staple in Bulgarian mythology. They are described as beautiful young women who live in the mountains and use their magical abilities to help the common folk.
However, Samodivas have a fatal weakness - since their magic is contained in the veils they wear, they could potentially lose their magical abilities. Some legends revolve around Samodivas who lose their veils and sometimes find them back.
As mentioned, Samodivas are a core part of Bulgarian folklore. Because of that, truth be told, they have become victims to their popularity and, unfortunately, many stories that feature them also tend to fetishize them in some very questionable ways (applies to both ancient tales and modern interpretations).
I did my best to avoid getting influenced by the raunchier interpretations of these nymph-like women when drawing my own take on them.
