The Camp Fam as Dinos + Bumpy

Basically, made this for an AU idea, and decided to share.

You know Eddie? The birthday boy scientist who stole the van and got eaten?

Well what if he didn’t know about the van? Was slightly insane, and most importantly, an intern under Lockwood’s daughter. The one who created a shot that literally changed DNA?

Cue experimental chaos that ends with the kids becoming basically Were-Dino, (don’t ask me on the science 😂)

Now the reason I chose what species for what kid-

Brooklynn was originally going to be a lux Parasaurolophus, because of the scene in Chaos Theory (you know what I’m talking about) and Kenji a Brachiosaurus, because of the scene in season 3 where he decides to help the baby find the herd instead of race after Ben and Darius, it’s the first real time we see him choose the path of empathy for the Dinosaurs, and to me it speaks of the trauma of being left behind by his own father.

However, I decided to switch them.

Brooklynn is loud and wants to be heard, she wants the attention and the love of others, and as an adult we see that she wants to do what she thinks is best, and damn the consequences, kind of similar to a huge animal that doesn’t have many natural predators that can take it down without a fight.

Kenji however starts off his life in the spotlight, he has to be perfect and when he’s not he is still a pampered prince, he knows his worth and it’s higher than everybody else. Then he gets a violent and teeth filled reality check, and suddenly his money is useless and he has no practical skills compared to everyone, he realizes that being special doesn’t mean anything when running for your life, and if anything, it makes him an easier meal. He was born with privilege and it means nothing, and as an adult he welcomes it, he doesn’t want to be like his father, like Hammond or Masrani or anyone else, he will survive, he will thrive despite it, not because of it.

Sammy was easy, a triceratops is kind and nurturing to the herd, but fiercely protective and will do what it needs to protect, but she also has a very big and glaring weakness beyond that protection, she has to rely on someone having her back, because she cant do it by herself.

Yaz is was a bit harder, while I thought about a Velociraptor or Gallimimus. Something fast and quick, I realized that the Pteranodon was more for her. As a human she had trained her legs to be her strength, her skill, and now on the Island she has become a liability because of her ankle, she’s slower and weaker and needs breaks more, her ankle has become a glaring weakness in her own self-worth and survival. But give her wings? And suddenly she can fly and still be helpful, she is free, just as free as running for fun used to be, but this time, she is also useful, eyes in the sky to watch out for her friends, and most importantly, for Sammy.

Ben is a compy, not just because he’s small and unassuming, but because everyone has underestimated him, including himself. He’s the weak link in their group, the small and powerless. But that’s the trick to compies isn’t it? They are small and weak, but they have a venomous bite and are deadly in numbers, a pack could even eat an entire T-Rex if they worked hard enough! Then as an adult, Ben becomes more than a tiny scrawny kid, but yet he’s still the same inside, all soft and gushy and fierce beyond any size.

Finally Darius, our adorable and Dino-loving boy. Darius is a T-Rex, but, the startling reality is that a baby t-Rex is still a baby, he can fight sure, but he needs help, he’ll never survive on his own despite anything he tries, he’s still a kid, inexperienced and unprepared. He wants to fight the world to protect the others, has promised to protect them and get them home. Darius has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and he has to learn to accept that the others can still fight. As an adult he goes through a period of isolation and of trying his own way, and it doesn’t work, because he’s still a kid at heart, a kid who wants his family back, and would do anything in the world to protect them.

(Also I know I did the colors a bit weird, but I tried to mix in their young and adult color schemes)

Chaos Theory Season 3!!! Like always, I have written down a bunch of my thoughts while watching.

Listening to the Heidi interview:

-Yaz's Chaos Theory was last to be designed first, Ben and Darius were first.

-They get to take off their jackets without losing them, and they use their pockets! (Dunno if that's just Season One stuff, with Sammy finding the map in the pocket and Darius losing his coat for an episode)

-There were a LOT of Rambo-Ben edits in Camp Cretaceous. He's apparently VERY MUCH revised (I'll keep my eyes open). There were things where he was supposed to "Not Be Afraid Of Anything", which would have been funny, but it is more realistic for him to still be scared a lot.

-Yaz and Sammy didn't get greenlit officially until partway into the pandemic (obviously the groundwork was there but they didn't get the go-ahead until the two seasons were officially wriitten, probably with confirmed renewal).

-The best parts of Chaos Theory are yet to come

-A LOT of character development happens after the writing stage and into the board stage. Storyboard artists and directors have a lot of say on how characters are depicted, so it's a lot like working with live-action...things change after writing.

-The reference sheets for Chaos Theory were better than the ones in Camp Cretaceous; the model sheets for Bumpy (pre-adult) were just front view and side view. No toys to reference. But it would have been useful (PROVIDE YOUR ARTISTS WITH RESOURCES, STUDIOS!).

-First scene she revised was when Yaz finds out Ben is alive. Spikes were difficult to figure out.

-Kentrosaurus is also really hard to stage, because you'll block out characters with shoulder spikes, and you have to draw them quickly and simply (shorthand), so you have to keep all of the complexities in mind.

-Robot dogs were not "The worst thing they added" (INSERT JOKE). But the invisible force fields and doors were tough to work with (because the storyboard artists didn't know how they worked!). Which...wow, props to that.

-"Jurassic Park IS a science fiction series" I CHEERED "And it's written by Michael Crichton, who also wrote Westworld" CHEEEEEERING AGAIN!!! "and it's impossible to bring back dinosaurs..."

-She likes the scene where Ben smashes the BRADs with a golf club (I have the files to make gifs, that's coming).

-In Camp Cretaceous, the kids weren't allowed to get physical with the dinos. Kenji can't kick a compy, e.g...."Too violent!" NO IMITABLE BEHAVIOR. Hence...you lose a lot (but Kenji gets to punch a raptor now!).

THIS IS MY LIKES AND DISLIKES OF CHAOS THEORY ⚠️Spoilers below cut⚠️

When i first finished this season, I too like some people, was skeptical about it. I get why some people say its bad, I just thought it was very different from cc. At points the characters didin't feel like themsleves, the way some of them were written and the designs gave me a real hard time to get used to them. Also i felt as if it was just too much to process at times so i rewatched it and my final answer is that its a good show the pacing is incredeble, the plot, the suspence and character development. i just had a hard time getting used to everything new? Ig. I'm still doubting whether its a 10 but sure thing is that it was a very good first season its a easy 9/10. So here are the thinks i liked abt it:

-THE WAY THEY POTRAYED EVERYONES TRAUMA/STRUGGLES , Sammy having anxiety, Yaz overcoming her ptsd, and KENJI. MY BOY. That must have been the best breakdown i've seen in animated series. Whoever wrote that scene. Wow. It was the best thing in the whole show honestly. His vision gtting blurry, having truble breathing. The panick. Wow. I CANNOT SAY THIS LOUD ENOUGH.

-Ben and Sammy duo? Hello? Im srry to say but you might just be better than Yaz and Ben duo. Idk i really loved them.

- "Benjamin."

- Showing Yaz is doing better. Despite her ongoing struggles, she has clearly grown and matured the last 6 years, and the way she calmed Sammy in the sinking van? Ig all those therapy sessions and college paid off. That scene is a clear illustration of the progress she has made. I mean sammy did say "i can tell shes still struggling" but there wasnt really a clear scene of her getting stuck in place as she used to. So my guess is that it was just Sammys anxiety and the fact that they didint talk much. Bc then Sammy was surprised how she kept herselve together. So yeah

-YASAMMY. NOTHING MORE TO ADD.

-UM SAMMYS CHARACTER?? HELLO? GLOW UP, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, i loved her sm. She moved up to my top 3.

And her anxiety? It was so well shown too

-the fight between Sammy and Yaz felt so natural and not at all forced. They both had valid points and in the end they did understand each other and were on the same page.

-Ben being Ben in almost every episode

- Yasmina's "boo."

-Brooklynns design?? Majestic to say the least.

- ingore what i said ealrier abt the acting out of character. They do remind themsleves they just grew

Well, all except Ben...

-Kenjis new voice actor, he did a real good job, as much as it doesn't sound like him, he really captured some emotional scenes very well.

- The robot lady. THEY REALLY SAID TAKE A WOMAN AND MAKE HER CREEPY ASF. I was genunanly creeped out. And the detail that at the ranch if u listen closesly u can hear the whistle. Hell nah that was scary.

-Benrius Ben and Darius friendship, okay actually u can't tell me u didint feel it too, the tention between ben and Darius cmon we all know what u are Ben stop making up girlfriends in Europe

-Brooklynn turning bad, or from what we are told worked for bad people ig. Personally as much as it shocked me, im sure theres a good reason as to why and i cant wait to hear more abt in season 2.

-I can now undertand what everyone meant in reviews saying "its more mature" not only in the more death and dinos but it woyud be kind of confusing for a younger audience to undertsand some stuff in this show.

-I really liked Daniels kon death, maybe it wasn't necesarry but im all in for that dark death scene.

-Lastly the comment Sammy makes when Ben asks how bumpy got pregnant, and the yazs smirk. Gurl i was suprised they added that but i loved it

Now, the things that i didint like and why:

- First of all, Darius being in love with brooklynn. I mean i get it but i also dont get it. In my opinion, there shouldn't have been a different reason as to why Darius was the most effected by her death. They were close and she died. Its okay to be really effected by someones death and not bc u liked them, and i also do believe that the reason for him not showing up the night she "died" should have been smth more serious. Then again i get it bc now he felt a lot more guilt bc it was for a not so important reason he didint show up and thats why he didint tell anyone. Well axtually it isnt that bad, but i just felt it was forced for the plot. This again could be bc i started to like kenlynn and now they turned the tables completly but sure.

-Brooklynns voice actor. I just couldn't connect her to brooklynn? She sounded a lot different, not a major bad thing it was just hard to get used to.

-Ben having a gf, or supposedly having one, u telling me this man has a gf:

I thought it funny but yk that man is a homosexual

- and lastly, Brooklynn being alive. This might sound bad but it made sense for her to die. And i was kinda lamed out that she wasnt dead. (Pls ironically enough, just weeks ago i begged for her to be alive.) But like the way everyone suffered bc of her death, going throught the 5 stages of grief, and the way the show was played. It just would have been better if she died, all those flashbacks, the emotional moments, i mean its not gonna be the same when i rewatch it bc i know shes alive. Anyways enough abt this.

Actually i have nothing more to add to my "bad stuff" list but i might come up with smth later. Bc i will be rewatchibg it obviously. Ig lastly i just wanted more episodes how dare they cutting the season of right there.

Darius: Dino Nerd Turned Hero

Darius Bowman never would've expected a shy, nerdy kid from Oakland could become the leader of the Nublar survivors.

"Back at Camp Cretaceous I had to learn to trust myself and my friends to make it through. It was a terrifying experience, but what they were doing to those dinosaurs at that facility just wasn't right. Somebody had to do something."

Since his return, Bowman has traveled all over the country giving talks about dinosaur conservation, and has worked with the Department of Prehistoric Wildlife.

Ben: Brave Soul Against All Odds

Ben Pincus had perhaps the most dramatic metamorphosis as a result of his experiences at Nublar.

"I was terrified of pretty much everything," he said. "Germs. The dark. Non-organic snacks. And then all of a sudden we were up against actual dinosaurs."

Luckily, Pincus found an unlikely ally in a baby Ankylosaurus he named Bumpy.

"Bumpy is my best friend. She helped me face my fears and see how much I had to contribute to the group."

We'll have to see if the campus office can make an exception for Bumpy as Ben gets ready for college in the fall.

Sammy: Cattle Rancher, Dino Wrangler

Sammy Gutierrez lived with her parents on a Texas ranch before Camp Cretaceous. Ever the optimist she remarked, "At least I was already used to big animals before that whole fiasco! There;s really not much difference between a longhorn and a Triceratops if you think about it."

It was another day stuck on the Dino infested island. The campers lost track since when they got stuck there, when the Indominus Rex broke out and mostly caused panic to the island, or Mitch and Tiff, and everything else that happened on this island, made them focus on that than what day or month it was. On the positive side, ben is back and now is..island boy?- no man! 

But anyways.. Today was like no other, the campers were in the camp they made from the scraps from their OLD camp that got.. demolished. Kenji was taking his 45 minute showers, Brooklyn was sleeping, and Yasmina and Sammy was talking and going through Yas’s sketch book. Ben and Darius though, went off on a walk through the forest (with bumpy of course) to get supplies that were needed for a raft. Darius had his mini book he puts information of dinosaurs in. Ben, sweet ben, asked what it was and now an endless conversation started. The Dino nerd was delighted someone asked, he really didn’t want to keep it to himself, you know?

Darius spoke in such a happy and excited tone to Ben, who was walking beside him, bumpy not far behind. The dark skinned male presented his drawing and details about each individual dinosaur he had upon his book, commenting random jokes on a few and laughing at his own joke. 

However, the other male was focusing on Darius’s features and expressions. How his curved jaw was moving as he spoke long words that Ben didn’t even want to try and figure out, how his hair looked so healthy and luscious, how his eyes sparkled brightly against his dark almond eyes that Ben could get lost in forever, and his voice..

Darius’s voice, it was cheerful like an enthusiastic kid who wasn’t in danger all the time, but it was also smooth like honey. It just had the thing that could make anyone could listen to on hours..well Ben at least. The island boy didn’t want to admit it- well he didn’t mind to admit it to himself just not to Darius, that he fell in love with his voice- he fell in love with Darius himself. Everything was perfect about the sweet boy.

Ben mindlessly curved his lips into a smile, just listening to Darius. The enthusiastic boy looked upon Ben and takes in his smile. He stopped talking, because he got embarrassed from rambling on about something Ben probably didn’t even care for.

“Sorry.. I can stop talking now- I wasn’t even letting you talk.” Darius claimed, he smiled at Ben nervously before glancing at the ground, his mini book gently patting against his forehead as he thought of the humiliating moment.

“Keep talking, I love your voice Darius..” Ben insisted, giving the boy a genuine grin, Darius choked on air as he blinked at Ben. 

He was shocked at what words uttered from his friend’s mouth, Ben finally realized what he said and the tips of his ears turn pink, so does his face.  They both stopped their walk, bumpy as well.

Darius slowly smiled ear to ear at Ben, letting out a nervous laugh as he spoke. “Really?.. you like my voice?” *Darius muttered. The island boy cleared his throat, hands hands on his waist as he nodded “yeah, it’s nice to hear someone have such enthusiasm in such a place,” Ben chuckled, before they both started laughing together.

Ben glanced at Darius’s smile upon his lips, he hummed and stepped closer. He was close to Darius, before pecking him in the cheek with his lips. The boy gasped and looked at Ben who was scrambling off to bumpy and shouting ‘I’ll go get the stuff! I’ll see you at camp!’ Or something of sorts. Darius blinked, taking in what had just happened. He placed a hand on his cheek and glanced at the direction Ben ran off to with bumpy.

Ok so Chaos Theory was great, all the characters are still very much then but grown up. Ben is still my favourite, and the fact that the camp fam all poke fun at the fact he of all of them got the swole puberty is hilarious.

Bumpy is the Best as always and I love all of Thier Interactions with each other. The Dino's are great and augh, it was so good to watch.

Really looking forward to the next season.

Darius;

I'm sadly a tad disappointed. He wasn't changed, persay, but I'm sooo upset he didn't spout One Single Dino Fact! Obviously he's not a kid anymore, I expected them all to grow up and change a little, but he felt very, lacking. I get it, he was depressed and guilty about Brooklyn, but I feel like there were times he could have shined through his old light. My favorite scene was when he was in awe of the glowing Saurolophus's. It's so boring that they gave him a crush on Brooklyn, can they not think up any new plot ideas?

Kenji;

He, Yaz, and Sammy are all tied with best, good character progression. He's still the same guy who wouldn't abandon his camp fam when push came to shove, and his breakdown when his dad died was a new peak for this show to top on giving me emotions. (I literally made a sad/sob noise when he said father in his native tongue, proving once again how much he longed to impress the dirtbag that didn't deserve him.) Every moment he had with Darius made me crave more, I long for flashbacks of the Bowman family. Also, him punning his name is my new favorite thing, I demand at least one Kon pun a season now, please and thank you

Ben;

Love his energy, as usual, he had some of the funniest moments easily and I'd cry too if someone was abusing my dino! I can't believe he left Bumpy behind twice!!

Yammy;

While I give slight credit they didn't do a breakup/ back together thing, it feels like they almost did, but since we don't know how long they spent not speaking I'm going to pretend this was a recent development and Ben and Darius just dropped on the tail end of it. As said above with Kenji, I appreciate they kept their characters consistent and progressed previous storylines without making them feel like whole new people. Regardless, happy they're still together and just being the best life goals for a partner

Brooklyn;

I'd honestly hoped they had the guts to really kill her. It would have given the show a much more dangerous feel than they'll ever manage now, and I'm sooo looking forward hearing what her great plan was for not telling the others she's alive. She was always my least favorite and least relatable and I appreciated her not even being in this season and I hope they draw this out as long as possible so I don't have to deal with her

Finally getting around to watching Chaos Theory

First off, I know that camp cretaceous was made for a younger demographic then I am. But I absolutely watched it anyway. The third season (I think) with the scorpius rex was the best. Those things were gnarly and super terrifying. However, I liked that the characters actually showed development throughout the seasons. Especially Kenji, Yaz, and Ben. I loved that they even carried over developments into other seasons (something some shows lose). Like Kenji and Darius having a spat that overflowed into season 4 (again i think). Plus it gave us Bumpy who is the best girl. Overall I enjoyed it!

Chaos theory season 1 and 2 have definitely upped the antics a bit. Which is nice, because it acknowledges that the people who watched CC are now older and it's cool to see that. Not quite Fiona and Cake level, but nice nonetheless. Some darker themes, some more mature conflicts, and still a lot of silliness. I will say, the human models have improved a lot since the first season of CC. Which is great. The dinos always looked great, and then the people were just bland smooth weird things? (Oh another great thing about CC was that they changed the character models over time as they spent more time on the island which was sweet!) I like the Brooklyn plot going on in this show, it's the most interesting for sure. The touch of her instinctively reaching for things with her hand, but not being able to grab anything due to the amputation is a cool and I think natural thing to show. So far, I feel like they're handling her disability very well with a lot of grace you normally don't see in quit turn around Netflix shows. I also love the trope of 'this character has nothing left to live for' gotta be one of my favorite genders (I'm looking at you Kenji). Speaking of Kenji, my man can't catch a break. The atrociraptors getting more screen time here than in Dominion is interesting and having Santos be the big bad is cool. I am wondering if it will tie into the new Jurassic World movie at all. Bumpy is still best girl.

Appearance (Before Indominus Attack): Katelyn has lightly-colored dark-skin, and brown hair that is in a ponytail and has a small braid. She also has purple eyes. She wears a light-gray slightly-cropped hoodie, and gray and purple track shorts. She also has light-gray shoes.

Appearance (After Indominus Attack): After the Indominus Rex attacked, Katelyn’s hoodie’s left sleeve was nearly torn off, so she used it as a temporary bandage. She has a bandage over her nose, and bandages on her left arm and legs. She wore a compression bandage for around a month due to an injury that sprained her ankle.

Appearance (Chaos Theory): Katelyn’s hair is now much shorter, and is chin-length. She wears black pants and brown shoes, as well as a cropped light-gray jacket. Underneath, she wears a gray and pale-purple sleeveless turtleneck crop top.

Personality: Prior to meeting Abigail, Katelyn was very antisocial, and her main source of enjoyment was sketching and drawing (which she still does). She’s very competitive both on and off the track, which usually means she’ll get upset if she loses something. After becoming friends with Abigail, she started to lighten up a bit and was more upbeat and positive. She’s also sarcastic and sometimes condescending. After her experiences on Isla Nublar and Mantah Corp. Island, Katelyn was traumatized and developed PTSD. She’s been slowly working through it with the help of Holographic Immersion Therapy on a remote island that’s “supposedly” dino-free.

Other: Katelyn’s name is based on Yasmina’s original name in the concept art, “Katie” (which is also one of Katelyn’s nicknames)
