#but a person who wants to worldbuild for say hormones in alphas
not-poignant · 1 year
Note
your whole world in Underline the Rainbow seems incredibly well fleshed out, down to the thought of what dietary needs alphas would have in comparison to omegas. Is there any omegaverse fiction that inspired the world of Hillview? Are there any fics/original fiction in the omegaverse that you particularly enjoy? Your interpretation of it has been my favorite that I’ve ever read, so I’d love to know what you draw from and what you enjoy reading in that world. I can’t wait for more Underline the Blue, I can tell that it’s going to tear me into teeny tiny confetti sized pieces and then put me back together again - janusz and nate already have my whole heart
(Also I hope that whatever is going on in your life resolves quickly and easily and with the best possible outcome - it seems like you’ve been through hell lately, I hope things get easier for you soon <3)
Hi anon!
The worldbuilding is so fleshed out in the Underline the Rainbow series because I just outright stole some of it from my other original omegaverse series, my published Perth Shifter e-books Blackwood and The Gentle Wolf (you can see those on the first pinned post on my Tumblr).
And I spent like...quite some time actually - like hours and hours - doing the kind of research I've never seen in most of the omegaverse stories I've read. I dove down pretty deeply into hormonal research, before inventing unique hormones (ardolphogen, larentin etc.) - even giving them the same suffixes as known hormones - for alphas, betas and omegas to distinguish them physiologically, so I could at least make a pretence at dealing with the medical side of things re: suppressants and health matters.
What I actually haven't included in Underline the Rainbow is all the historical research I did for Perth Shifters. Because in Perth Shifters, as the name implies, the characters are wolf shifters, and there are also humans who aren't alpha/beta/omega in that universe. So some of it wouldn't apply.
There's no one omegaverse work that inspires me. I'd say I've read literally hundreds of them now - in original publishing, in fanfiction, in manwha and manga. What I actually really love about it is that quite a few of us appreciate the chance to do some unique or different things with the standards of the genre, which means I can do stuff that people have seen before (knotting, heats), but that I can also do stuff that no one has done before (no one has given omegaverse folk the names for the hormones that I did, for example).
When it comes to details like the dietary needs (more fat for omegas, more protein for alphas etc.) I literally made that up on the fly. No thought went into that beyond 'shit that sounds good.'
But what goes into being able to do this is simply that I'm an avid learner of just about everything. I know a little about hormones already because I have a hormonal cancer. I know a little about nutrition and digestion already because I have an eating disorder and see a dietitian. These kinds of things are often in the back of my mind (along with decades of research into things like PTSD, or biology, or ecosystems and ecosystem management, or...the difference between grass fires and tree fires and the heats they burn at and how to survive either, etc.) I am filled with a repository of knowledge that is often useless in my day to day, but comes in handy when I'm writing.
So while I improvised the nutritional differences on the fly, I didn't do it with no knowledge behind it, I just didn't need to stop and research it at the time. It pays to read like over a thousand non-fiction books on literally any subject, y'know? That shit is so helpful for improvised worldbuilding.
The reality, anon, is that I'm drawing way, way more from research into science than I am from other omegaverse stories for these specific kinds of worldbuilding. Spending hours reading books and Wiki articles on hormones for example, has done way more for my omegaverse worldbuilding than any fics/stories I've read. Which probably sounds pretty weird, but most of the extra worldbuilding in this comes from science and resembles more of the work you'd put into science fiction or even hard science fiction worldbuilding, than it does from...reading other books in the genre?
Because frankly most omegaverse stories don't focus on this stuff. And also, a lot of the omegaverse I've read is pretty much straight-up smut, lmao. Which I love. Let's face it, a lot of folks are here for the knotting and the heats. :D And I love that! But I also love...worldbuilding (both in advance and on the fly, lol).
I will say that Leta Blake's omegaverse work has some pretty awesome cultural worldbuilding that I've not seen before. Mine isn't based on hers, and a heads up that there's mpreg, including literally 'sex while the baby is inside and the person feels the baby moving through their dick' which is like...very much past my line of what I like reading lmao. But the worldbuilding itself in Slow Heat and Alpha Heat is pretty awesome. She often does unconventional omegaverse dynamics, such as older omega / younger alpha with significant age gap, or alpha / alpha, etc. I would definitely say that I admire her worldbuilding, even though I don't base mine on hers. (Hers is a world where women no longer exist at all, for example, with religious and cultural lore that springs up around this and the duties that then apply to omegas and alphas to procreate in a fairly extreme dystopian setting where the mortality rates for omegas re: childbirth are shockingly high and being afraid of dying during childbirth is extremely normal/appropriate).
The Big Bad Wolf series by Charlie Adara also has some pretty cool worldbuilding (though not nearly as deep as Blake's, also no mpreg), which features a human/alpha pairing. Also it's romantic suspense which is just an awesome genre overall.
Also, there's more Underline the Blue coming on AO3 this month! And also more coming on Patreon too! This is definitely an Underline the Blue month. :D

As I promised a while ago:
Dragons platonic ABO AU
So, I've read some platonic Omegaverse stories and damn, that shit can be so fluffy and I'm always down for some fluff 🤩
Characters being happy and cute and everyone joining the cuddling session and I just fell in love 😂
And I also read some Dragon!AUs and I thought, why not both? Both were a different fandom and yeah, I think Maribat needs an AU with dragons and platonic ABO dynamics.
There's a lot of worldbuilding, the story idea, if you want to skip there, starts after **********
So, the different dynamics have nothing to do with reproduction, they are more like a biological manifestation (hormones etc.) of the social role they lean towards. A group of dragons in which these dynamics come into play is called a Pride (yeah, I like "a Pride of dragons", I think it has a ring to it 😁). Humans don't have a dynamic, only dragons or part-dragons do. Part-dragons are called serpent (if the mother was a human and they were born in their human form) or drake (if the mother was a dragon and they hatched).
Alphas are competitive and often trying to show off. They thrive on conflict (doesn't have to be a serious one) and competition.
Betas draw their strengths from solitude and themselves. They avoid conflicts or act as mediators, partly because their chances are the worst if they actually get caught up in a conflict, but they are also the most peace-loving dragons.
Omegas thrive on having an active social circle, the bigger the better. They draw their strength from their love for others. Usually they are calm and don't get themselves involved in arguments, but if their Pride is endangered, they can be lethal. A pissed off omega is nothing anyone would ever want to face.
Dragons are usually born as an egg and hatch after a few months. Baby dragons are called hatchlings (even serpents who are born in their human form), in their early teens they present as their dynamic and are then called dragonlings. Since dragons live a lot longer than humans they are only considered adult dragons (by other dragons) in their mid-twenties to early-thirties. Trying to seriously court before then will not be received well by a dragonling's Pride.
If two eggs are laid in a clutch, fraternal twins end up being omega and alpha, identical twins are usually both betas.
There are no "rules" for who is in charge of a Pride, but omegas often have an easier time, since their social skills are higher.
Every dynamic goes through a hormonal cycle every few months but how they experience it differs from person to person. Some want to cuddle, some need warmth, some only eat raw meat during their cycle. But the most comfortable way to spend the cycle is usually in one's own nest with a few Pride mates close by to offer cuddles, comfort, someone to talk to or to fetch something they need.
The laws differ between countries, but since humans haven't had the wish to fight a dragon since the middle ages and especially the older, famous Prides did their best to present dragons as harmless if not provoked (and they also had the money and influence to steer public opinion in that direction), the laws aren't too restrictive in most places. In places like Gotham, which has a very long history influenced by dragons and was co-founded by dragons, hence all the gargoyles, they are actually pretty lax. And in France for example there are several dragon protection laws in place.
So, I think this is enough about worldbuilding. Here comes the story idea (but if you feel inspired by the world building, go ahead, have fun and tag me, so I can have fun as well 😅):
**********
The Dupain-Chengs were a young couple of bakers who barely had anything to do with dragons until one day when they were just about to close their bakery there was a woman rushing in.
She asked them to take care of the egg she held in her arms, saying that she had to fear that the egg's grandfather would cast the egg out or mistreat the little hatchling.
Since the young couple were good people and wouldn't want a baby, dragon or human, to be treated badly, they agreed and the woman gave them a big shawl made of shedded dragon skin. The old skin of the egg's mother, the woman explained. They would need the shawl to prove they didn't steal the egg.
The next day they went to the authorities and explained what happened. Usually an abandoned egg would be given to another Pride who was willing to raise another hatchling, especially the older prides were always eager to add fresh blood. But since they had the shawl, they could prove that the egg's mother had chosen them and therefore they were allowed to keep the egg, if they would comply with the statutory requirements. These included classes about parenting a hatchling, social structures between dragons, dragon biology and more like this, as well as at least one adult dragon (or serpent/drake) who was willing to support them (that's how they met Nadja, a beta who felt a bit lonely, since her Pride wasn't from Paris, and was happy to help). The requirements also said that at least after her presentation she would have to be enrolled in a school with at least 30% dragonlings.
Since the Francois-Dupont schools were highly recommended integrated schools (schools with a special focus on dragonlings and human-dragon-relationships), they sent their hatchling, they called her Marinette, there.
Marinette presented as an omega during the summer break. Her parents tried hard and did a good job, but there were still some things they couldn't teach her, so she turned to Nadja and to doing her own research. She started to babysit Manon, because it gave her another dragon in her social circle and when she went through her cycle the first time, she realized there were things her parents just couldn't understand: As an omega her need for a big social circle wasn't satisfied with her parents allowing her to sleep in their bedroom during her cycle. And they wouldn't allow her friends Nino and Kim, two dragons from her class she befriended, to stay in her nest with her. As humans they only saw it as two teenage boys sleeping in the same bed as their teenage daughter.
That's why Marinette started to do her own research, so she could better understand her instincts. This was why her teacher, Madame Bustier, a human, didn't really recognize the formerly meek and quiet girl after the break. Marinette grew and didn't accept getting pushed around anymore. Not by her teacher, with whom she had a very serious talk outside, and not by Chloe, an alpha drake.
Since Marinette feels more comfortable in her skin (or shall I say scales?), she gets more confident and her natural leader qualities easily put her in the spot of the Pride's Head or Prima of the school's Pride. For most students the Pride of Francois Dupont is not their primary Pride (that would be their family), but since the school is meant as an integrated school there are also many students like Marinette or Chloe, who don't have a suitable primary Pride available.
One of these students is Adrien, a beta drake, who has to attend the school now, since his mother disappeared.
Adrien at first only knows Chloe and she also scares everyone else away. Chloe is his friend, but he really would like to formally be accepted into the Pride, but that can't happen, if Chloe scares everyone away and he can't even talk to his classmates.
That's the way it goes for a week until the Prima, an omega dragon he feels pretty intimidated by, snaps and drags Chloe off to an unknown location. Another beta dragon introduces himself as Nino, assures him that he doesn't have to worry about Chloe, because Marinette, the Prima, would never harm any of them and invites him to hang out.
Adrien slowly befriends his classmates after that. Chloe gives him more space and seems to keep closer to Marinette. He still feels intimidated, until she gifts him a scarf for his birthday. That's the first time he sees her self-conscious as she explains that she sewed a few of her scales from one of her shedded skins on the edges, because she read that they are needed to create an official acceptance present for a new Pride member. It's actually a tradition old established Prides follow, but since Marinette found out about it in her research, she thinks it's normal and she likes the idea, that her Pride members have something that smells like her.
Since Adrien's mother was the only dragon he had in France and the rest of his Pride lives in the UK (Amelie, Felix, maternal grandparents, his uncle before he died), Marinette as his new Prima has some legal leverage over Gabriel, who as a human is considered a less important bond. Adrien still lives with Gabriel, since he assured Marinette that he doesn't want to leave his father all alone, but Marinette put her foot down about his schedule, so he has less modeling gigs and only the extra curriculars he likes, like fencing. Adrien is still a bit intimidated, but he also adores her, because not many people are willing to butt heads with his dad and come out on top.
They are still Ladybug and Chat Noir, by the way, but since they hide being dragons when they transform it only changes the dynamic a bit, so they feel a lot more like siblings and best friends with no romantic interest.
Marinette also still attracts the attention of Jagged Stone, who is an alpha dragon and excited to hear, that his kids Juleka (alpha serpent) and Luka (omega serpent) are already friends with his new favourite designer.
Kagami and her mother are both alphas and when Kagami joins the fencing team Adrien recognizes another lonely kid when he sees one, so he asks Marinette to watch the fencing class the next time and introduces Kagami to her.
Kagami has only her mother from her Pride in Paris and since they are both alphas, she enjoys spending time with Adrien and Marinette. They have a calming effect on her and she is happier. At first her mother tries to forbid Kagami from spending time with them, she only accepts them, when Adrien and Marinette convince her to send Kagami to their school (it may have also helped that Marinette "casually" mentioned how close she is with Nadja).
Amelie and Felix end up coming to Paris, because they want to take Adrien back to London, but there they meet Marinette and Amelie, a beta dragon, is so endeared by her, she decides to stay in Paris and send Felix to the same school to get to know Marinette. Felix can't understand what his aunt, a beta dragon, like his mother, from an old Pride, saw in his uncle, a human designer with dubious talents (as Felix says).
Felix is an alpha dragonling, so it's not a surprise that he likes to show off his skills as an actor and a magician. And how smart he is, obviously. When his cycle arrives after he joined the class he butts heads with the other alphas of the school's Pride, especially Chloe, Kim, Alix and Kagami, since he's around them more.
The last addition to the class is Lila, who spends her first day lying about being an omega. It turns out there were only 3 dragons at her last boarding school and die other two were beta twins several classes above her and her classmates seemed to like her more as an omega than an alpha. Her mother is human and her father a drake, which makes her a serpent and she still can't transform into her dragon form. That's why her dragon grandparents finally relented and allowed her mother to have her with her.
Since this version of Marinette is much mote confident she doesn't let this lying grow and points to the information about Lila on file and after getting to the root of the problem, they assure her that she is just as welcome as an alpha.
Just like Chloe, Lila turns out to be a bit clingy and asks Marinette to stay with her during her cycle.
The school actually has a so called nesting room where the dragon and part-dragon students can hang out and build their nests. Human students need to be invited, which doesn't happen often, because humans don't have the instincts to nest and for most of them it's boring or childish, since it's basically hanging out in a pillow fort, sleeping and cuddling for most of the time.
On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean Damian Wayne (alpha dragon) has found his place in his father's Pride. He learns from his father Bruce Wayne (omega dragon, Primus of the Wayne Pride) and his siblings Richard Grayson (alpha dragon), Cassandra Cain (beta dragon), Jason Todd (omega serpent), Timothy Drake (omega dragon, but with more beta mannerisms than other omegas, because his parents needed him to be a beta like they were) and Duke Thomas (human meta) and everyone else in his extended family.
During patrol one night his mother lures him away to ask him if he is happy. When he says yes, she tells him she will do something, so his grandfather will leave him alone for good, although she couldn't say that about Ra's obsession with Tim, since that obsession might become worse.
He reports the incident and they realize that there could be only one explanation: Damian has a twin sister and his mother is going to get her, to present her to his grandfather. Since Damian knows that his grandfather is displeased by his presenting as an alpha, since an omega would have better skills as the leader of the league, and that's one of the reasons Ra's preferred Tim, he knows that his grandfather had no idea about his granddaughter. Otherwise he would already train her. This also means his mother must have made sure, she was well hidden, she might not even know herself where she was.
Of course they will move heaven and earth to find their lost little sister and protect her from the league. They just wish that stupid magical terrorist in Paris could have waited until they found her and made sure she is safe.

Omegaverse questions from this post
This is my personal worldbuilding — everyone has different answers and if you want to answer these questions for urself please tag me in it I’d love to read different interpretations
What’s the talk like?
Aside from how sex ed should be more like an ongoing conversation, there is an extra layer to it about heats and those hormones. On the other hand no periods so that’s not a layer?
When do you learn if you’re an alpha/beta/omega?
Usually at birth. That being said, beta females and omega females aren’t distinguishable until puberty (or w genetic testing), and some beta females are hard to tell apart from alpha females at birth, but are usually distinguishable before kids start attending school. In general, alphas are identified at birth.
Is there bad sex ed?
Of course there is! In my worldbuilding heats span from mild inconveniences people carry on their daily lives during to disabling. Os with “lighter” heats might not realize they’re having them. But since there’s not really much hiding, only O females really have a chance at being surprised. I write things in fairly equal proportion — like, alphas are equally men and women — so there’s not a ton of assumptions about what someone is.
What do people do for work during heats?
Work if they can, call out if they can’t. It was historically an issue for hiring omegas, because the assumption was that they would need a bunch of time off over the season (roughly spring to fall), but in the modern day there are protections. You’d probably need a doctor’s note for irregular heats, since most Os would be able to say something like “four days every eight weeks.” Cycles vary a lot, tho, as few as once per season to more than once per month.
What do two alphas do if they fall in love?
Assuming modern times, they’re just omegaverse-gay? Historically A/A wasn’t accepted in many cultures (ie ones M/M weren’t accepted in), so y’know. Sex wise, they do what works for them. And the alpha on the bottom would probably squeeze their knot so it’s not like. Uncomfortable.
Do heat cycles sync?
Yes and omegas absolutely nest together. A lot of the submissive + horny stuff is triggered by alphas being around so groups of omegas sometimes end up basically having a sleepover for a few nights until they decide they’re interested in taking a partner.
Alpha sex workers for in-heat omegas?
Absolutely. It’s definitely more publicly acceptable than sex work IRL but still probably not something you discuss more than once with your parents. (Y’know, like, a “this is what I’m doing now” convo and then u don’t discuss it again.)
Especially for Os who live/work around alphas but aren’t partnered. They might get the unpleasantness of wanting an alpha but not have anyone.
Chastity play/denial?
Would focus more on not being touched during a heat than not having them. I write heats as — not the exclusive time of sexual arousal, but certainly the center of it.* That being said, taking heat suppressants could totally be a kink? I think it’d more be from the angle of like…your own pleasure being secondary. Than denial.
*I write heats based on estrus cycles, and while some animals with estrus cycles have sex out of heat, it’s less common. In general, time out of heat is going to be a period of low libido, but not zero libido. Depends on the O.

SW Suddenly-Omegaverse AU: Surrogacy, Worldbuilding, Obi-Mom
Truly the main irony of all this is that everyone considers Obi-Wan the Better Omega but Anakin is the one who's actually 👀👀👀 about pregnancy
Obi-Wan: I have the deepest respect for those who do it, but the idea of growing another person inside of me is weird and gross, no, thank you.
Meanwhile Anakin is like. Immediate baby fever. Someone actually approaches him like "hey... there are forms you can fill out to request an exception for pregnancy, and like... regulations" because he's that obvious about it.
I assume that if they've got safety nets for accidental pregnancies, then they're probably aware that there are people who want to do it on purpose? I feel like in an omegaverse where 'biological imperative to procreate' can be so much more intense, then maybe there's old precedent that stuck around even after suppressants got most of those hormones under better control.
Bit torn. Just know I want Anakin to Make Baby.
"Anakin, what are you--" "Do you think offering to be someone's surrogate would be acceptable to the council as a way to be pregnant without getting attached." "...what." "They'd probably accept that as a way to practice not getting attached, right?" "N...no, that's not... what?"
Anakin approaching Bail and Breha and being like “Do you... still want a kid? I would provide a kid. Do you want one here*?”
* in this dimension
Great way to give up the baby as a parent because he'd still be able to see them once in a while but also like... it's not HIS kid, technically. He can be a cool uncle who happened to give birth, which is distant enough to not be 'attached,' but close enough that his Tatooine-raised 'must ensure family is safe whenever possible' background doesn't flip out. It helps that 'Core World Royalty' is like... a top-tier family to be raised in.
(It would have to be post-war because he probably shouldn’t be risking his life while very pregnant. He needs to be reminded of that sometimes.)
Bail/Breha is an alpha/alpha relationship and while a pregnancy is still possible,* it’s a whole lot more difficult, and that's on top of Breha's canon medical issues that resulted in her heart and lungs getting replaced.
* AFAB alphas can get pregnant, and AMAB omegas can inseminate, but the success rate on that angle is much lower than the 'traditional' alpha/omega roles, as is any attempt at reproduction outside rut/heat. They're low-fertility overall for the non-dominant aspect of their reproductive system, which... ha, Anakin and Obi-Wan try to get explanations for why the senary system works the way it does, but it's a very longform history lesson that comes down to 'idk this got cemented so long ago that nobody really knows why anymore.'
AKA "why do you title these roles male omega and female alpha instead of intersex omega and intersex alpha since both parties have both genitals."
ANYWAY
Anakin: I want to make babies. But I don't want to get kicked out of the order. But I don't want to give up my own babies for adoption. But I can't keep my own babies if I want to stay a Jedi. So basically I want to have someone else's babies? Anakin: ...wait shit that's just surrogacy.
Anakin, calling up Obi-Wan: Hey are the Organas still struggling to have a kid? Obi-Wan: ...not really your business. Anakin: You're friends with Bail again though, right? Obi-Wan: I am, but-- Anakin: Do you think they'd want me to be a surrogate? Obi-Wan: What.
I can't decide if it's funnier for the Order to be like "I mean... technically there's no rules against this?" or if this is a precedent set by at least three omegas every generation because that's just how a/b/o manifested for omegas in a biological and cultural sense.
Bail: Wait, your former apprentice is... volunteering... to be our surrogate. Obi-Wan, exhausted: Yes. Bail: He barely knows us. Obi-Wan: He respects you and you're the closest people he knows that want a child and would be good parents. Bail: And he's just... volunteering? Obi-Wan: Yes. Also, you did say your primary worry was that a surrogate might be targeted for assassination and you couldn't ask someone to risk that, right? Anakin is very much able to avoid assassins, and would be staying primarily in the Temple anyway. Very safe, and not particularly scared of assassins in the first place. Bail: Your words say you approve, but your tone says otherwise. Obi-Wan: Anakin considers me his father. I'm not old enough to be a grandparent. Bail: Ah.
Anakin is a surrogate and enjoys it and everything is fine and then like a year later he's accidentally pregnant with his own and Rex's kid, and nobody knows how to ask if it's actually an accident.
A suggestion from @gelpenss:
OH MAN i.... have to drive home. But I just had a thought about like. I always want to poke at Betas in A/B/O like are they “normal” or different from our standard or.... but ANYWAY assuming they have a pheromonal thing I just think it would be neat if betas had the ability to be the Bucket of Cold Water. Like if caught early enough, and with the caveat it’s not permanent, a beta could arrest a rut or heat in its tracks until a more ideal time. Like. They aren’t birth control. But they are the remind me later button.
Okay done driving I am Returned to bring up why I brought up betas and it’s this: well okay 1. It plays nice with a popular but inaccurate dog breeding urban legend that female dogs will like, delay heat cycles? so that the bitches above them in pack hierarchy have first choice of mate selection. And I think in omegaverse it would be cool if that was a Bio Fact, and also historically enforced by the third designation. 2. It gives me an excuse to have betas have the Most Sensitive sense of smell because it’s their “job” to pick up on things before they go too far to be put on pause. 3. I’m just thinkin ‘bout a beta clone [...] just hovering around Obi-Wan because they found out how much stress his heat cycle causes and they’re like “okay cool I will help make sure it does Not”
I want to like a/b/o verses but betas niggle at me. I want to give them a hat and a Function that woulda helped before modern medicine.
I'm not sure how I feel about betas being able to delay heats, but I do like the idea of them having a more sensitive sense of pheromone smell than most. Most aliens assume it's omegas with the best sense of smell, and betas with the worst, but it's more complicated than that because they all specialize: Alphas are actually less attuned to pheromone smells, but more attuned to things that were useful back when humans were still a hunter-gatherer species. Omegas tend to be heightened towards danger smells like fire or aggression, and pheromones relating to children/care. Betas, as suggested above, are very sensitive to pheromone changes relating to mood and behavior of the community around them.
I like the idea that betas were historically the ones that ended up taking care children, unmated omegas, and so on during people's heats and ruts, because they kept their heads about themselves long enough to do things like cook and clean while someone was reeking of hormones. The checks and balances work out that betas may have lower fertility, but it makes them better able to support the network around them.
It works in with humanity's general collective history of thriving the most when working as a community.
Given that I decided that this is Jangobi, the clones might all subconsciously view Obi-Wan as Mom. Not intentionally, but, you know... Obi-Wan the not-evil stepmother. He doesn't know how he got into this situation, but he sure is here, and he sure as hell doesn't know how to get out.
Obi-Wan "I don't need to get pregnant, I have three million stepchildren" Kenobi
I definitely love "clones all want to make Obi-Wan's heats less stressful" but like in a different way from Whatever The Fuck Anakin's Got Going On.
Obi-Wan using the force to dull the pain in a Shiny's broken leg while the medic works on it and the Shiny just mumbles "Thanks mom" and everyone gets very embarrassed and pretends it didn't happen.
But then it happens again. And again.
Obi-Wan asks for an explanation from Cody and gets a halting response that, since Jango is technically their father, and his scent has been all over Obi-Wan recently... and Obi-Wan puts in a lot of effort to take care of them all.......
Anakin overhears the clones calling Obi-Wan "mom" and just. The most judgmental eyebrow raise.... Mostly in the sense of "You never let me call you dad" "Thought you said you weren't anyone's parent." "Hey, hey, Obi-Wan. What the fuck."
BOBA. BOBA ABSOLUTELY CALLS OBI-WAN MOM WHENEVER POSSIBLE. IT'S DEEPLY FRUSTRATING.
Obi-Wan eventually manages to admit that he's uncomfortable with it at minimum because of the gendering the word has for him, can they at least use the neutral 'buir' instead?
Word spreads like fire, takes like two days max for everyone to switch.
(Anakin demands cuddles as compensation for not getting to call Obi-Wan any true parental term for years.)

Rape/csa survivor Mokap here with an unpopular opinion--1: It's worth noting that some people who don't use (not just women) here and there may go about such rps and scenes for power dynamics and the like in a safe environment which the survivor should be able to stop at any time. But the bottom line is that it's consensual/legal among all parties involved (provided the real humans are of age, of course).
Mokap anon, 2: I’m starting to see an alarming trend of “even if you use it to cope and you just disclosed your mental status/etc., you still can’t do it because it makes me uncomfortable”, and posts like that do irk me because I don’t believe people should have to disclose that kind of info over fictional things. It’s so trivial to me, and even then, people can block/ignore/unfollow if they see that kind of thing at some point. They have the option to do so.
Mokap,3: But then again, I’m of the opinion that people should produce and participate in whatever content they wish as long as it’s within legal limits. It can be hella gross to me, but unless I’m being pulled into it, it’s none of my business. Those kind of posts remind me of things I’d see associated with purity culture, which I’m not too keen on. Hope you have a good night.
Thank you very much for your polite response.
First of all people should not go into other’s blogs and police, and should remember that unfollowing/blacklisting/blocking is always an option, but I have talked a decent amount on that particular part of the matter and should not
In your last message you actually hit the nail on the head as to why I reblogged that post, although now that I think of it it was perhaps not the best worded for the intention I was trying to get across. People producing such things (while I find it icky) often have a right to do so (unless if it’s illegal to produce x where they are.) The issue is that some people who are doing such things try to pull people in, or have normalized it in their own mind enough that they feel that it is something that they can simply approach people for on their Rp blogs without knowing them. In summary for me a part of the issue is when people are bringing it into places it is not desired (not just that they are fetishizing it, something I have already explained my stance on)
In my case I will and often do Rp certain darker (non-sexual) themes (death, bodily harm, etc) but I always ensure that it:
Is within my partner’s rules
They have given me direct permission to do so (even if it’s within their rules I check)
I have known them for a while and we have talked ooc so I am already roughly aware of what their limits are *
That they are 100% aware they can back out at any time, and that if they want I will rewrite a reply for them
That I check the rules again and speak to them again if things are likely to escalate in the thread **
It is when people neglect to do those sorts of things/bring those who are not consenting into this sort of thing through their actions that I have an issue. ESPECIALLY when it comes to threads of the sort we are talking about.
I am going tell you now that to me bringing those who are not consenting into things includes situations where a person was too nervous to say no or back out, consented to something else but not the new direction of the thread. It is not just a lack of consent, but a lack of INFORMED consent that I am looking at here.
For example I myself have alpha/beta/omega blacklisted in about forty different permutations of tags and wordings because the idea of a world where people are often in a state where they are unable to properly consent due to hormonal fluctuations makes me extremely uncomfortable. I keep it off my dash and say nothing, although it is in my rules as things I will not touch with a ten foot pole.*** Even if it does make me uncomfortable ultimately it’s my blogging experience that I need to control, and as such my job to block/blacklist/unfollow, not an Rpers job to stop Rping something simply in order to cater to me. (I mention the alpha/beta/omega thing in order to come back to it in a moment)
The issue comes if the lines blur and people bring it with them to new Rp partnerships assuming it will be acceptable.
For example, someone could come forward to me an AU where both muses were shapeshifters or werewolves, and I would say yes, because give me that awesome worldbuilding and interesting social dynamics
If that person then proceeds to add the alpha/beta/omega hormonal dynamics to this AU and had been planning to all along then that means that I did not give informed consent, and that they had ignored my rules as well just to do what they wanted to.
They are forcing this scenario and in some cases (if the person doing the forcing is popular enough) someone who has had this scenario forced upon them may feel they had to continue to Rp this even though they found it uncomfortable. People sometimes do that with their kinks as well, and it is obvious in many cases that there was no communication going on (for example the other muse backs out right away and the mun basically ends the thread there by nopeing out) If someone does this with noncon in a thread simply because it’s their kink then...yeah let’s stop that thought right there
The person desiring the noncon thread could also simply bring it up right away upon speaking to someone, and things like that are most definitely not acceptable in all ?most? situations (just in case anyone wants to argue that point.)
There are already issues with force shipping and people forcing/guilting others into Rping smut/fetish stuff (...and yes I’ve seen the latter happen) and I find that worrying, especially given the fact that people may attempt to trick others into Rping non-con scenarios when they are uncomfortable.
At the end of the day it’s most important that people can stop if they feel unsafe, aren’t being approached randomly without any concern for if they are alright with that sort of content, people aren’t doing it simply to get their rocks off without a care for the other person, people aren’t being tricked into things, and it’s all consensual and above-board.
-mod human
*And that they know me well enough to feel comfortable coming to me with any issues they may have with it
**If I have been Rping with them for a long time and we have had threads of that nature before that have escalated far further than this one I may simply send a message reminding them I can rewrite if they are uncomfortable, but I almost always check just in case
***Although the cultural aspects of lycanthropy can be super interesting to look at and I have seen it such dynamics used as a world-building to amazing effect and can make for interesting Rps. The fact that it is being mostly used as a springboard for smut that is often dubious at best when it comes to consent means I’m uncomfortable so I just don’t even try…but I digress.

SW Suddenly-Omegaverse AU: Interior Design
Context: Original Post, Chrono
(Worldbuilding helped along by @atagotiak)
So you know how it's reasonable for the Jedi Temple to have species-specialized rooms? Most extreme examples being the environmental controls for Kel Dor, and probably semi-aquatic rooms that have underwater sleeping spaces for Nautolans and Mon Calamari?
Omegaverse humans get rooms that have large depressed areas, lightly padded with non-absorbent coverings for nests, both in communal areas for group nesting, and then the bedroom nesting divots are for the adult alphas and omegas.
Tumblr media
When I say nesting divots I'm thinking about sunken living rooms, but smaller, and round or ovaloid. Possibly smooth-sided so it's more like an egg than a cylinder? Not sure on that part. Might be that some people prefer it differently.
There are a lot of humans in the order, so I think they plausibly make it part of the standard generic dry-land suites.
The big issue with a non-nesting species having a room with the nesting divot is that, if you're not using it, it's easy to trip into and hard to place furniture over. It's inconvenient, so I think it might be something where the quartermaster has a standardized 'cover-up' thing that fills in the divot so it's level with the rest of the room.
Also... hm. I think bedrooms with nesting divots might have them in recessed areas? The room isn't a square, it's a square with a smaller square off to the side (so there's safe-feeling walls on three sides), and it's out of the way for those who don't use it. Where you'd conceptually have a small bathroom or walk-in closet, there's a little side space for the nest, sans door.
There's still a 'regular' bed, more often than not, because nesting serves a somewhat different purpose.
So there’s just this hole in the floor of most terrestrial rooms, but most non-humans (or other nesting species) tend to cover it up. A lot of them use it as the storage space for winter/summer clothing swaps; Coruscant has very mild seasonal variation, but they do go to other planets on missions, so... yeah, Under the Nesting Cover is where you keep your winter clothes.
This actually makes the most sense because then betas can also get nesting covers if they want them. There can also be bigger nesting covers for the communal spaces of default terrestrial rooms if a non-nesting master-padawan set get them.
The communal spaces could be set up so you can just add regular couches to it, and then it's just a sunken living room. They probably have teams of droids for fixing up sets of rooms for environmental needs.
Me, poking at A/B/O logistics: I wanna talk about the quartermaster and the droid team that does interior remodeling for species-specific variation in environmental needs.
I think it would be very funny to watch a quartermaster try to balance a Nautolan master with a human padawan like 'okay they need a room where the adult's living space is aquatic, there needs to be a communal nesting divot for the padawan--" and then later on the Nautolan is just like. No nesting instincts. But the padawan is waiting in their little hole full of blankets and pillows and just looking up with Wibble Lip and the master just goes Well, Okay Then, because taking care of your padawan's needs is important and humans do the whole cuddling thing, so...
Most social species do some cuddling, but omegaverse human nesting instincts are weird to an aquatic species, I think. Like... this is all Very Soft And Dry.
Anakin and Obi-Wan end up sharing a suite because there's enough traumatic tension involved in this whole mess that nobody wants to split them up... and I considered that they then have to move a few months later when it turns out they're both now omegas and need bedroom-based nesting depressions too, but it's easier for all human rooms to have nesting depressions by default. They still have to move when they get Ahsoka, though, so the quartermaster has to find-or-adjust a three-bed suite, with two master rooms that have omega nesting divots, and one dry humanoid padawan room (no nesting divot needed, but it'll probably have one anyway).
Anakin and Obi-Wan both ignore the nesting divot at first because it's just... it's weird, okay, but then they keep getting frustrated and upset and antsy for reasons they don't understand, and someone points out that like.. maybe that's why? You aren't nesting and that's important for humans, right?
They hate the idea, because it's not normal for them and they don't like being reminded that the Force said they can't go home. The conversation happens before they've realized they're naturalizing to the AU dimension, so they keep ignoring it... but then Anakin's heat happens, and they resign themselves to trying it and oh, actually nesting feels.... really good....... fuck.
Not even sexual good, it's just the same hormones you get from a hug. Safe-and-comfy chemicals happen in the brain when nesting. Surrounded by walls and comfy fabrics that smell like family and friends. Burrowing.
Quick note on Venators:
I'm thinking that there are personal nests for the officer's quarters, and large communal nests in the barracks. There are still bunks lining the walls, and no personal nests. Given the different needs of humans in this AU, I'm saying there's up to twenty troopers per 'room', and two large communal nests for that same number. Really it's more like rows of bunks that don't connect to the walls at either end? Like rows of library shelves.
There are specialized heat/rut rooms for once-a-year heats/ruts. There's probably an entire hallway (near medical) dedicated to solely to those.
They're all on suppressants but need to still have the damn things, if smaller and less intense, for health reasons relating to the quick-aging situation and maintaining optimal hormone levels for peak performance in the field. Imbalance will cause depression, and when everyone already has PTSD, you don't want to risk that more than you have to.
