I have feelings.
Also, if you sent me a message with spoilers just know that I did see them and love them, but I won't be replying to any until a few days from now to avoid accidentally spoiling it for any one else.
MANDALORIAN SPOILERS BELOW CUT.
Tumblr media
I think I liked the episode? No, I did. I did like the episode overall, but it felt... flat to me? I don't know how to put it into words, but I'm sitting here post finale feeling very '🤷🏻‍♀️meh'.
LIKE DON'T GET ME WRONG. Love, love, LOVE that Din Djarin officially adopted Grogu (side note was this episode trying to tell me that this entire fucking time Din was the family name and not Djarin? i'm ignoring that forever, Grogu Djarin shall thrive in my heart).
LOVE that it ends with Din having a little home with his little boy and it's hinting that he's gonna go on little adventures with Grogu😭 I adore that so much [an anon, sent me a message that at the end of the episode they thought of 'A Fresh Start' and I am not ashamed to say I did too😘]
LOVE that Bo Katan and Din didn't end up a couple. Which, I am sorry to those who really wanted them together (not super sorry mind you) but I still stand firmly by the fact that literally both of them could do better [and side note I'm still very much here for the absolute chemistry b/w the Armorer and Bo Katan].
LOVE all the fight scenes where Din kicked ass. Like, HOLY HELL. I made a post last week about how Din had no badass moments like he has in the last two seasons and the it was like the show writers went 'yeah okay bitch fine hold my beer' and wrote the most BADASS SCENES. The part where Din is kicking ass with R5 dropping shields one by one? Yeah, that'll live in my head rent free forever.
LOVE that gideon didn't take off Din's helmet. I want to see Din helmet less so badly but I also want it to be his choice the next time it happens (if it happens).
SO I LOVE ALL THOSE THINGS. But, I still finished the season feeling kind of 'meh'. I think it's because at no point did I feel like I was on the edge of my seat? But, you know what, whatever. I will claim this as a victory overall b/c Grogu is officially Din's son, Din is a home owner with his boy, he's back to his bounty hunting roots, and he got to end the season sitting his tired ass on the front porch while watching his son terrorize the local animal life.🙏🏼

I’m such a nerd for Greek Mythology and the tale of Eros and Psyche is one of my favorites so this prompt happened. This got long but I regret nothing. That’s how much I love this myth lol. Pls tag me if you’re inspired by any of the ideas presented here and I’d love to read it! 💜
Eros and Psyche AU: Mandalorians are gods, the last vestiges of an Ancient Way long past. They are so few and sightings of them are incredibly rare. Their temples lay empty and abandoned, devoid of followers and worship offerings. Din is one of these great and lonely gods, and spends his immortal life keeping to himself - until he’s called upon for a favor. He’s very selective about who he appears to. Most entreaties go unanswered since he finds them to be frivolous, petty, or otherwise a waste of his time and energy. Someone enters his temple and asks him to track you down and bring you in, warm or cold. He was going to ignore it, but then he saw your beauty through a holopuck and became entranced.
Despite what he’s offered as reward, he doesn’t agree to anything. When he finally finds you, Din sees that you have a small green creature that looks like a child attached at your hip. You have Grogu and he’s your adoptive son (like the fill-in for Hedone). You enter a temple and humbly pray to him for love and protection. If not for you, then for Grogu. Seeing how earnest you are, Din reveals himself to you. He knew that, based on how you reacted, you were different from other targets. He can tell when someone is lying to get out of facing punishment when they’re guilty, so seeing you with a child and how scared you are that something might happen to Grogu makes Din realize that you’re innocent. He asks what you have to offer him in return for granting your boon. When you sheepishly admit you have nothing but yourself, he accepts your offering.
Instead of capturing or killing you, he fakes your death/disappearance and whisks you away to a faraway planet that’s not on any map, where it’s safe for you to live together. Over time, you fall in love. You’ve never seen his face, not even a glimpse of his mouth since you’d always eat separately. When you’ve made love, it’s always been under the cover of pitch blackness, too dark to see your own hands in front of you - or you’re blindfolded so you can’t see a thing. He doesn’t let you travel the galaxy with him and makes you stay home, forbidding you from leaving the planet or having guests while he’s gone.
He deems it too dangerous or risky to take you with him on adventures after all he did to fake your death/disappearance and bring you to this secret place. Anyone could recognize you then report your location back to the person who wanted you in the first place. Or worse: the other mandalorians could discover your existence and that he’s smuggled a mortal into a realm of the gods. You’re not too happy with this argument, since he himself has spent a considerable amount of time teaching you how to fight so you wouldn’t be left defenseless whenever he was called away. He made sure not to go easy on you during your training. You think he’s just trying to scare you to get you to stay in isolation.
Tumblr media
You’ve been living in peace and safety, but unbeknownst to Din, you’re periodically visited by Luke Skywalker whenever he’s away. The Jedi sensed Grogu through the Force long before you even met Din. He has been training the little one to master his abilities ever since. He’s a dear and trusted friend of yours who keeps you company in Din’s absence so the loneliness doesn’t consume you. He’s always gone before Din returns home. You’re friends and nothing more. You’d never betray Din like that, you just find it unfair he forbids you from having even one guest.
One day, you and Din find yourselves in a dire life or death situation. Din gets wounded in the head by a weapon of legend that has the power to weaken or kill gods. After he takes the killing blow meant for you, you’re uncertain if he’s alive. So you have to take his helmet off to make sure he’s still breathing. It doesn’t matter how quickly he reacts by putting his helmet back on or how urgently he tries to rush you through exchanging Mando’a wedding vows so he can save you from the wrath of the other gods. They already know. The damage has been done. You’ve seen his face. He’s broken his creed and your “marriage” is annulled by the mandalorians. Neither you nor Grogu are under their protection. You’re both banished from the planet at once, while Din is kept locked away under house arrest and incapacitated due to his wounds.
You’re told that your only hope of earning redemption for both you and Din is to travel to the depths of Mandalore, the first ever dwelling of the gods, and bathe in the Living Waters. You must bring back a vial of the waters as proof. Only the Living Waters can heal Din’s wounds. You’re warned that no living creature has ever survived the harrowing journey to the mines down below. It’s said the atmosphere is poisonous and only the gods may enter. But still you press on.
You’re left to fend for yourself and your son, but you’re tired of running and hiding. Time to fight for your love. It takes many days and nights, but you finally make it to Mandalore. Even though Din is extremely weak and can barely control his powers in his current state, he uses what little energy he has to astral project himself. He appears to you briefly so he can guide you through the mines. He knows this quest would be impossible to complete on your own and he loves you too much to watch you die. With or without Grogu’s help, you use what Din taught you in order to survive. You come out victorious, but not unscathed, after such a grueling series of trials.
As you submerge yourself in the Living Waters, you’re taken aback when all of your wounds are healed. You feel rejuvenated. You retrieve a vial of the waters and journey back, only thinking of Din. Meanwhile, Din has drained all his energy and can no longer see you. He doesn’t know if you’ll make it back or not, but he hopes you will. He wants to marry you properly. He wants to make you his riduur and adopt Grogu as his son. As he convalesces, he can only think of you and how there’s one thing about the water you still don’t know. Something he so desperately wanted to tell you but never got the chance to.
Upon your long awaited return, the waters are used to heal Din’s wounds. The success of your quest has been proven. Thus, you’re both redeemed and the banishment is lifted. Din takes the vial from you and slices his finger open, letting drops of his blood mix with the remaining water before the wound instantly closes as if it was never there. Countless living creatures have died, killed, or been killed in the vain pursuit of this - The secret to immortality. And now Din wants to share it with you. Just one drink of the Living Waters infused with mandalorian blood and you’ll be like him. You’ll never age, never get sick, never die. You’ll be beautiful forever. He won’t have to lose you to the shadow of death. He implores you to drink and join him in eternity as his riduur. What do you choose?

2023 in TV - My Top 10 Shows
Tumblr media
10.  THE MANDALORIAN (Season 3)
The fortunes of post-George Lucas Star Wars have really fluctuated over this past decade, for almost every blissful high there has been an excruciating low to tip the balance back on its axis … thank the gods, then, for the consistent success of Lucasfilm’s biggest success story since they were bought by Disney, their streaming service’s epic and expansive series following the (mis)adventures of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (the legendary Pedro Pascal) and his adopted ward, the impossibly adorable Force-sensitive baby Grogu.  The show’s gone through some major shake-ups as it’s expanded its outlook in the SW universe beyond just Din’s own experiences to take in the larger canon, and some purists have complained that it’s starting to lose its identity because of this, but as long as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni continue to present a finished product of this consistently high standard it’ll remain EMINENTLY worthy of our time.  I for one actually really LOVED the greater prominence of Katee Sackhoff’s Mandalorian royal scion Bo-Katan Kryze throughout this third season as her rise to prominence makes her almost as much of a key character now as Din himself, and given how this season delivers what feels like a comfortable close to the original Mando’s story, I think this does a really beautiful job of setting up how the series could most smoothly continue in the future.  So long as it remains as exciting, inventive, emotionally rewarding and downright GORGEOUS as it has been, I’ll keep watching.

9.  THE GREAT (Season 3)
Hulu’s opulent black comedy satire from Aussie playwright and screenwriter Tony MacNamara (The Favourite, Poor Things) recounting the youthful rise to power of the mighty world-renowned Russian monarch Catherine the Great (albeit very loosely) has been a very enjoyable TV distraction these past few years, particularly once things starting really going to shit, and this latest (seemingly LAST) season is no exception. Elle Fanning continues to excel in what’s become the best role she’s had to date as Catherine, still effervescently self-confident despite her growing exasperation with her ongoing struggle to bring her adopted home of Tsarist Russia into Enlightenment and away from the far more base urges that have held it in their grip for so long.  This is made all the more difficult by her persistently complicated and tempestuous love-hate-love-hate-love-murder-murder-stabby-stabby relationship with her husband Peter III (the always brilliant Nicholas Hoult), who’s FINALLY trying to learn to better himself for the sake of his own deep love (and throbbing carnal obsession) for his wife and the mother of his adorable infant son Paul.  Fresh difficulties arise to baffle the lovers at every turn, from dastardly courtly machinations to civil unrest and an EXTREMELY ill-advised “accidental” war with Sweden, and it doesn’t help that their various friends and advisors – including Phoebe Fox’ spiky Marial Brezhnev, Peter’s complicated aunt, the Empress Elizabeth (the delightfully ODD Belinda Bromilow), and, of course, Adam Godley’s spectacularly perverted Russian Orthodox Archbishop “Archie” Samsa – largely seem to be in it for themselves.  It’s anarchically brilliant as ever, every episode proving more chaotically unpredictable, gleefully off-the-wall and endearingly, downright FILTHILY hilarious than the last – it’s a rare thing indeed to get a comedy show that’s THIS fiendishly ingenious, making it a consistent must-watch.  Unfortunately, the story has finally reached its (admittedly wise) conclusion, but I’d love to see Fanning revisit Russia’s greatest ruler sometime in the future …

8.  AHSOKA
It was one of my greatest pleasures from the second season of The Mandalorian to get to see the live action (re)introduction of Anakin Skywalker’s wayward padawan Ahsoka Tano, now grown up and truly come into her own despite years spent in self-imposed exile after the Galactic Jedi pogroms and the subsequent collapse of the Empire.  Seeing her return (however briefly) in the ultimately disappointing Book of Boba Fett was one of that show’s saving graces, so it seemed to only be a matter of time before she got her own series on Disney+, and gods knew I was one of the most hopeful.  Thankfully, the wait has not been in vain – this is BY FAR the best piece of Star Wars-based TV I’ve had the pleasure of indulging in this year, Dave Filoni not only allowing us to spend plenty more time with our girl but also getting to see a resolution to the open ending of the very enjoyable Rebels series as we see some of her key Rebellion-era comrades return as well.  Rosario Dawson has really grown into the title role now, bringing fresh nuance and complexity to a character who was already SO INTERESTING, and the new additions here are very welcome ones, particularly Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society) as my very favourite Mandalorian, Sabine Wren, who’s become Ahsoka’s very reluctant apprentice after showing some small aptitude with the Force, as well as the late Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno (The Spy Who Dumped Me) as mercenary former Jedi Baylan Skoll and his vicious apprentice Shin Hatti, who are working to bring the infamous Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn (the legendary Lars Mikkelsen, finally getting to portray his chillingly masterful villain in live action) back to the Galaxy Far, Far Away.  This is a rich, evocative and epic adventure story that takes this well-trod universe to intriguing and exotic new worlds as it opens the saga out to intriguing new possibilities, and while this was conceived as a limited series I’m personally holding out real hope for more moving forward … and I KNOW I ain’t alone …

7.  GOOD OMENS 2
Neil Gaiman’s adaptation of his own much beloved collaborative novel with the legendary late fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett was such a perfect piece of television that it was a no-brainer for Amazon Prime to greenlight more, making it most fortuitous that the two writers had already made impressive progress planning further adventures for the wayward divine duo of the angel Aziraphael (Michael Sheen) and the devil Crowley (David Tennant), so he already had a starting point for more.  Ultimately this is less THAT specific story than a bridge between the main story from the novel which formed the first season and the next saga, but that doesn’t make this any less worthwhile an experience, Gaiman again proving he’s one of the very best writers OUT THERE by presenting us with another exquisitely crafted sextet of hour-long episodes of gleefully comic theology-themed speculative fantasy which does a beautiful job of expanding the universe and offering rich and rewarding new character arcs for our two favourite gay angels.  Giving away much of any of the plot would do the brilliantly twisty story an injustice, suffice to say that the arrival of a VERY NAKED amnesiac archangel Michael (the wonderfully game Jon Hamm in a MUCH more expanded role this time round) on the doorstep of Azirapahael’s book shop sets another potentially cataclysmic true-existential crisis into gear which will have massive repercussions for our reluctant heroes moving forward into the inevitable third season.  Nice to see that Amazon have ALREADY asked Gaiman to bring the series to a satisfactory close, then.

6.  THE LEGEND OF VOX MACHINA (Season 2)
More rightly renewed genius from Amazon Prime, this time with the second season of the animated adaptation of the first campaign of Critical Role’s TTRPG live-play webcast series, still undeniable essential viewing for both fans of professional Dungeon Master Matt Mercer and his friend’s online antics and just those who enjoy their fantasy adventures a bit more irreverent and adult.  Given that the second major arc of the campaign was already a doozy, I knew ahead of time we were moving into what was sure to become an even more potent stretch of the saga than we got in the already impressive first season, and the deeply-committed folk behind it have NOT disappointed with this follow-up.  The stakes have been raised CONSIDERABLY as the fantastical land of Tal’dorei falls under the brutal sway of the Chroma Conclave, a collective of tyrannical dragons bent on bloody conquest, so it’s up to the dysfunctional adventuring party of Vox Machina to save the day.  Oh dear … this is JUST as much fun as the first season, with plenty more thrilling action, side-splitting satirical comedy (thank you AGAIN Sam Riegel for the gift of pure, unadulterated R-rated JOY that is the gnomish bard Scanlan Shorthalt) and inspired creative invention, but once again proceedings are tempered with plenty of powerful emotional heft and heartfelt LOVE for the characters these players created and remain STRONGLY connected to so many years later.  Since Amazon wisely made the decision to commission the THIRD season WELL in advance of the second’s release we already know there’s more coming, and given where I already know this story is headed I can’t help getting REAL excited for its future …

5.  THE LAST OF US
Okay, here we go, finally time for the proper ORIGINAL STUFF … yeah, it’s been a particularly great year for new IPs on the small screen, meaning that my Top Five all get to be completely fresh and “original” properties instead of continuations or spinoffs from existing series.  One of the most deservedly long-awaited, well-received and rightly ACCLAIMED new shows to emerge in 2023 was HBO’s highly anticipated adaptation of the much beloved post-apocalyptic zombie survival horror video game series from Naughty Dog, and their wise move to team the games’ original creator Neil Druckmann with Craig Mazin, the man behind the now legendary Chernobyl miniseries, has paid off SPECTACULARLY here, since this is one of the very best TV series I’ve come across in a good long while, a work of breathless brilliance and soul-destroying POWER which just left me SPEECHLESS at the end of SEVERAL episodes in its all-too-brief run back in the New Year.  Pedro Pascal may be The Mandalorian, but I think he's found his TRUE greatest role EVER here in Joel Miller, the world-weary survivor of a particularly nasty zombie apocalypse who lost EVERYTHING in the collapse, only to be given an opportunity twenty years later to make a difference when he’s charged with taking Ellie (Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey), a wilfully tough teenage girl who’s IMMUNE to the cordyceps fungal infection that brought down the world, across the American hellscape in the hope that she can help with the creation of a cure.  Given that Joel lost his own daughter in the initial outbreak they naturally start to bond, their burgeoning connection creating a powerful driving throughline at the heart of the series as it goes from bad to worse to TRULY FUCKED and beyond … this is everything The Walking Dead always tried to be but never QUITE managed to become, a brutally challenging but infinitely rewarding tale of hope, love and compassion in the face of Armageddon, and since there’s still a second game to adapt and plenty of potential for expansion besides, I for one CANNOT WAIT for the second season’s arrival in 2025 …
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4.  SCAVENGERS REIGN
It’s also been another really great year for ANIMATION, particularly grown-up fare, and this brand new series for Max was EASILY the year’s most unusual and effortlessly ORIGINAL piece of work, in some ways frequently becoming downright DISTURBING, but often with a stark, challenging BEAUTY to even its most TWISTED creations.  Relative newcomers Joseph Bennett and Charles Hueffner have taken their original short film and expended it into a sci-fi story of rare vision and endless invention, following a scattered collection of desperate survivors from a colony ship crashed on a miraculous but deeply hostile alien world fighting to reach what’s left of their ship in order to have a fighting chance of building a new life, maybe even ESCAPE if at all possible.  They’re an interesting and rewardingly well-rounded collection of characters, each of their disparate storylines providing equally fascinating arcs across the series as they encounter weird, wonderful, unfathomable and sometimes downright TERRIFYING alien phenomenon building up to a thrilling and suspenseful climax which gives the season a strong conclusion while laying ground for possible future development.  The animation from Titmouse (The Legend of Vox Machina, Pantheon) is FIRST RATE and refreshingly unique, with the design-work frequently reaching OFF-THE-CHART levels of artistic creativity, while the writing proves impressively robust too, creating realistic character arcs and compelling stories that keep the viewer invested to the end.  Given how the ultimate climax, I wouldn’t be sad if this really WAS all we got, but I hope this gets picked up for more, it’s DEFINITELY worth signing up for a longer haul ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.  ONE PIECE
Another year with Netflix DOMINATING the small screen with their Original Programming then, although I’ll admit when they were putting THIS together I was, like a whole lot of people, extremely pessimistic of its chances.  If there’s ONE THING I’ve learned over the years as a fan of the genre, it is EXCEEDINGLY RARE for Western adaptations of manga and anime to work, PARTICULARLY in live action – like many, I STILL ain’t gotten over the HORROR of what Netflix themselves did to my beloved Cowboy Bebop … thankfully, somebody in creative control was paying attention to that, because FOR ONCE, this is one of those infinitely rare occasions where it’s actually WORKS, and VERY WELL INDEED.  Thankfully, the original creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, was brought onboard as creative consultant by showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda (Lie To Me), and they CLEARLY listened to him because this is EVERY INCH a madcap, sprawling classic anime comedy adventure show brought to vivid life in live action – I’ll be honest, I never actually got into the manga or anime myself, there’s just WAY too much of it for me to even know where to begin or really want to commit to it, but I’ve watched plenty of other shows like this, and I’ve learned the ropes well enough to know they got it VERY RIGHT here.  It’s a fantastically rich world for their creatives and an incredibly game cast to play in too – obviously, the beating, thriving HEART of the series is, rightly, Iñaki Godoy (The Imperfects) as Monkey D. Luffy, the irrepressibly UPBEAT wannabe pirate who wants to find the legendary treasure of the title and become truly the new King of the Pirates, although like many I’m sure I definitely fell hardest for Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), a roguish master swordsman who wields THREE BLADES, and Sanji (Gassed Up’s Taz Skylar), a talented cook and unapologetic ladies’ man who’s also a powerful martial artist who fights exclusively with his FEET.  The whole crew that Luffy brings together are a sweet, lovable bunch, while the bizarre assortment of freakish pirates, criminals and marines they encounter are uniformly bizarre and thoroughly memorable, while the show is a masterclass in controlled anarchy, well-written character work and the perfect balance of riotous comedy and stirring pathos.  The end result was definitely the year’s most effortlessly ENJOYABLE TV show, and one I’m definitely in for the long run with.  Good thing Netflix have already greenlit season 2 …
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.  THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER
Mike Flanagan really has become one of Netflix’ most powerful secret weapons, each one of his original series proving to be an undeniable MASTERPIECE of inventive writing and ingenious direction coupled with sheer, heart-wrecking FEELS.  Such is the case with his latest offering, an admittedly BALLSY take on the collective works of Edgar Allan Poe, all filtered through a modern-day reimagining of one of his most famous stories, although this is definitely something a little different from Flanagan.  This time, instead of focusing on a family of dysfunctional but ultimately decent people who love each other deep down, the Usher clan are, almost to a man, some of the most DESPICABLE excuses for human beings you’d probably never wish to really encounter in your life.  The head of the family, Roderick (another magnificent turn from the great Bruce Greenwood, alongside Midnight Mass’ equally excellent Zach Gilford as his younger self), is a morally bankrupt born salesman who seized control of the massive pharmaceutical conglomerate of Fortunato with the help of his even more viciously sociopathic genius twin sister Madeline (Mary McDonnell and Willa Fitzgerald), and his equally precocious offspring are, collectively AND individually, just as unpleasant as him – the only ray of light is his granddaughter Lenore (Doctor Sleep’s Kyliegh Curran), the only Usher with compassion, decency and a truly gentle heart.  Unfortunately their empire is built on lies, murder and a dark, demonic bargain made with an unknowable angel of death, Verna (Carla Gugino), who’s finally come to collect on the debt, and she plans on taking THE WHOLE FAMILY as payment.  This is the most PURE piece of horror that Flanagan has made to date, his usual restraint largely absent as he lets rip in a series of brutally ironic and fiendishly twisted murderous reckonings that sees each member of the family meet the worst fates you could possible imagine, while the true monstrous depths of how this all came to be are slowly revealed in typically non-linear narrative fashion.  In the end, while The Haunting of Hill House remains Flanagan’s finest hour on the small screen, this may be his finest work for Netflix since, and it’s definitely the darkest and most cathartically MONSTROUS work he’s produced to date.  I really do hope he lets his dark side out to play again before too long …

1.  BLUE EYE SAMURAI
While we champ at the bit for the long-awaited second season of Arcane, Netflix have thrown us a fresh bone to chew on in the meantime with this truly INCREDIBLE new adult animated series from screenwriter Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049), who co-showruns here with his wife Amber Noizumi and animation storyboarder-turned-director Jane Wu (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).  To be honest, this show could have been PRECISION CRAFTED expressly to appeal directly to ME, this is SO MANY THINGS I love all in one package – it’s a gorgeously animated, super-violent action thrill series telling the story of Mizu (Man Seeking Woman’s Maya Erskine), a half-white, half-Japanese woman who has to hide both her heritage AND her gender as she wanders Edo period Japan as a lethal ronin samurai in search of the unknown white man who fathered her so she can murder him for making her a monster in the eyes of the country she was born in.  Thankfully there are only FOUR of them in Japan at this time, and her current target is Irish gunrunner Abijah Fowler (a fantastically oily vocal performance from Kenneth Brannagh, who gets to use the accent he originally grew up with), a brutally subtle hulk of a man who’s got his own far-reaching plans for the conquest of the very country he’s a dirty little secret in … Mizu is an INCREDIBLE creation, a fierce warrior with truly astounding talent with a blade matched only by her ice cold determination to mete out her vengeance by ANY MEANS NECESSARY, and I am ABSOLUTELY BESOTTED with her, I swear.  Fowler, meanwhile, is one of the very best and most well-written, super complex villains I have come across in a good long time, while he’s just another one of a whole RAFT of fully fleshed out and compelling characters which also includes Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever) as arrogant but principled samurai Taigen and Heroes’ Masi Oka, who frequently STEALS THE SHOW as Ringo, a portly sushi chef born without hands who becomes Mizu’s incredibly unlikely protégé through sheer force of will and an unendingly sunny disposition.  The action sequences are some of the best the year’s offered up, captured in a fascinating mixture of 3D flare with a distinctive mock hand-painted 2D finish which makes for some very distinctive animation that obviously owes a whole lot to the influence of Arcane, paying off equally well in the distinctive character designs and gorgeous watercolour-styled panoramic vistas.  Most of all, this is some of THE MOST SKILLFUL writing I came across in all of 2023, even putting some of the year’s most impressive BIG SCREEN offerings to shame with its ingenious plotting, peerless character development and handling of intriguing, powerful themes of gender and sexual identity, body positivity and systemic racism which are just as potent today as they were in the historical period they represent.  This is IMPORTANT television then, but most of all it’s just DAMN FINE WORK, and I cannot wait for the now greenlit second season to arrive …

SPOILERS!! Season 3 finale - initial thoughts. SPOILERS!!!
MANDALORIANS ARE STRONGER TOGETHER!
I freaking LOVED this finale. LOVED IT. 10/10 A++++++++++++ to infinity!
I cried happy tears at the end, I freaked out in the middle when those Praetorian (sp) guards went for Grogu, and I cheered when Bo, Din and Grogu protected and saved each other.
This was non-stop gut wrenching, heart in mouth stuff. But I have never felt more proud of my Clan of Two, my favourite father and son combo from far far away.
And it's Grogu Din, not Grogu Djarin. And he is Din Djarin son, officially. He is adopted, he has a dad. These two will thrive and prosper.
If there is a season 4, then it's going to be the Din and Grogu adventures working for the New Republic in the Outer Rim - and I cannot wait to see that! If there isn't going to be a season 4, then that final shot of Din and Grogu in their little home, resting and playing together is the best image I can have. These two deserve happiness and peace, and they got it finally.

Hey, so I saw you needed some writing ideas. I was wondering if you would be ok writing a platonic Mando/Reader (the reader is like a teenager or young adult), where the reader gets anxious when Mando is gone for long periods of time hunting for bounties due to past trauma of their family leaving them (albeit not on purpose, they were taken away). And since they have to stay on the ship and take care of the child, they can’t go with him to make sure he’s alright. Just something I thought of.
This is very angsty I AM SO SORRY! I absolutely enjoyed writing this and it's probably one of my favorite pieces.
The reader and Mando have a sweet platonic almost father/ child relationship in this.
Ni cuy' olar ad'ika (I am here Little one)
Wanings: Hurt/comfort, angst
Words: 1557

"I'll be back," the Mandalorian said to you as he descended the ramp of the crest.
You nodded as you snuggled the child. Giving a soft coo the child looked up at you and moved his ears. Sighing you turned and entered the crest, heading off to make lunch.
***
You decided to eat lunch outside and enjoy the sunlight with the child while you could. It had been a while since your trio had inhabited a warm plant. The sun's rays kissing your skin left you feeling warm and hopeful. Hopeful for a better future and of not being alone again.
It felt like home. The home you once knew for nearly 17 years where you had never felt alone or unloved. Where you had a garden and a family. Where cooking lessons from mother took place and sarcastic banter with your father. Where giggles from your brother bounced off the walls as he pulled your hair.
Eyes stinging and bottom lip quivering you looked down at the child as he brought his soup up to his mouth. Just like him, you had been alone until Mando found you. A child without parents or someone to take care of you. Lost and abandoned trying to find your place in the galaxy.
Before you met Mando you had been loved by your parents. They worked hard for you and your brother and made every moment worth living. Your home had been small and your parents would work until exhaustion overtook their bodies, leaving you to cook and look after your brother. You would tend to the garden and sew clothes for the family. Each day you would thank your mother for the skills she taught you and your father for his sense of humor and hard work. Your family was all you had known In life. It was all you needed. It was home. Where you felt safe and adored.
But everything changed when the troopers came. To this day you swear you can still smell the fires and feel your lungs ache as they tried to breathe anything besides ash. The fires and storm troopers engulfed your village, taking the children and killing off anyone who tried to stop them.
Your parents had gone out earlier that day to the market and had never returned. They had taken your brother as you spent the day reading and basking in the sunlight in the garden. The first sound of blaster fire startled you, your muscles freezing as you pulled a vegetable from the soft soil beneath your feet. It was another couple of moments before the next round of blaster shots could be heard, this time closer.
When you could finally move again you looked off into the distance as the fires grew and smoke filled the sky. Panicking you ran inside and hid in the back of your parent’s closet. That was where your parents had told you to go if there was ever an invasion. They had created a room that was safe and where no one could find you. You waited and waited for your front door to be knocked down and for you're home to be stormed. No troopers ever came in search of you though.
Neither had your parents.
You had spent days in and out of sleep not daring to leave the confined space of your hideout. On the third day, you had awoken to the noise of the front door opening and the shuffle of heavy footsteps. You waited a couple of minutes silently crying and praying to the maker that you wouldn't be found. Minutes turned into an hour, then two, then three, and eventually, night has fallen.
You knew whoever had intruded your home had not left yet and they didn't seem like they were in a hurry to. You waited until the early morning just before sunrise to try and sneak out from your hidden space and had almost made it to the front door when heard the click of a blaster and felt the barrel of it pressed into your back.
It was then that the Mandalorian and Grogu had found you, starving, dehydrated, and filthy. You broke down crying and begging for him to just kill you. You refused to be taken as anyone's slave, servant or turned into a soldier.
Watching you shake and please for death Mando had gracefully holstered his blaster and instead comforted you, explaining he would not hurt you and that he could leave once the sun rose and his child woke. In response, you told him that you would instead go. This place was a house but no longer a home.
Putting the pieces together the Mandalorian sympathized with you and offered you a new beginning and what would eventually become your home. He expressed his concern about his son and needing someone to watch him while he went on missions. You considered and said you would think about it. Mando would be leaving later that night and told you that if you decided to join him to meet him at his ship just before sundown.
That evening Mando found you sitting outside of his ship with the few belongings you had and any produce that had not wilted from the ash and fires. The Mandalorian didn't say much or ask much of you and you quickly fell into a routine with him and the kid.
That had been nearly a year ago. You had been too old to be a foundling but too young to become a bounty hunter yourself so you stuck with watching the child much as you did now.
Looking down at the child again you saw his eyes begin to droop. Smiling weakly you packed up the remaining bits of lunch and scooped up the child.
"Naptime my friend."
Grogu cooed, nuzzling his head into your chest.
Making your way into the ship you shut the ramp and laid with the child on Din's cot until you both fell into a deep slumber.
***
Three days. It had been three days since Din left to go search for his bounty. You generally didn't worry but when his adventures hit the three-day mark anxiety started to kick in. You knew Din was capable of handling himself and would always comm you if there was trouble or if he needed you to fly the Crest to him. Despite knowing all of that you couldn't fight the bile that rose in your chest and the tunneling sensation of the world around you.
By sundown, on that night  you felt like a walking corpse. You hadn't eaten but still had to fight the urge to throw up or break down crying. Grogu had watched you in concern all day and had been extra cuddly and affectionate. He could sense your unease and see your fear through forced smiles and glossy eyes.
Bedtime came early that night for the little womp rat. Trying to comfort you tuckered him out.
Having time to yourself is both a blessing and a curse. You could cry freely without being embarrassed and without tiring out the kid but it also reminded you that you were alone and what you had lost. It reminded you that it could happen again. That the family you now had could be torn apart just as easily as your last.
Sobbing, you sat in Din's chair in the cockpit wrapped in your favorite blanket from home. It still had the smell of your mother's perfume and your father's aftershave on it. Realizing one day that that too would fade and disappear you wept harder, letting out gasps of air as your lungs tried to replenish themselves. The material of the blanket caught the tears that rolled down your face and you wrapped it tightly around you in desperation to feel close to your family again. Eventually, your body gave up on supporting you and you fell out of the pilot's chair and laid on the cold metal ground. Eyes squeezed just hit salty tears continued to flow and splash onto the worn metal of the Crest.
You don't know how long you were down there or how long you had been crying but you felt yourself being lifted and scooped into a hug. You wailed into Din's chest as he slowly rocked you.
"Ni cuy' olar ad'ika." His unmodulated voice rang through your ears and you felt his own tears fall down and into your hair.
You may have been too old to be a foundling when Din found you but he still adopted you as his own. He treated you as I'd you were his own child, laughing when you laughed, threatened to take away credits when you sassed him and cried when you cried.
He understood your pain and hurt and his chest tightened every time you shed a tear. He knew you longed for your parents as much as he longed for it. If there was a way he could bring your parents back he would. You would do the same for him if you could.
That was not a possibility though and you both knew it. Instead, the three of you made your own family. Your own clan.
This is the way.
Rocking together on the floor of the cockpit you both cried into the night.

pairing: din djarin x reader
warnings: angst, cursing, getting lost, feeling of loneliness, threats, mentions of death
request by: anon
a/n: a market was requested, but I have read many writers describe markets like on Tatooine and I didn’t want to copy anyone even if I’ve never read their work… so one big city coming right up. fingers crossed you like it.
masterlist
Tumblr media
Today was not the best day of being in three-year long relationship with the Mandalorian. You had landed on the planet Coruscant, a planet that was one big city. You were running out of fuel and were on your way to Tatooine to have Peli and the small droids work on the Crest’s engine. Din said something about feeling the ship sputtering here and there and wanted Peli to look at it.
You had been on Coruscant before, Maker you had lived there. You knew about the black-market trafficking and you knew about the countless gangsters causing a fuss over the smallest things. Din refused to stop there, saying he could make the Crest get to Corellia… anywhere but Coruscant.
Din hated Coruscant more than anything. The streets were filled to the brim with a bantha-sized variety of people and the air was loaded with their small ships causing nothing but chaotic traffic. He was sent there with two other Mandalorians, Paz and their sponsor, when he was still in the Mandalorian training corps. There, they tracked down a Twi’lek gangster who was terrorizing a Mandalorian family living on the planet. He also nearly died trying to protect his sponsor from a blaster shot, in turn speeding up his swearing of the creed.
“Why can’t you just trust that I’ll be okay? You know I’ve lived on this kriffin’ planet! I know my way ar-“
“Enough!”
You are taken aback of his tone. You have gotten into arguments with your husband before, sure, but he has never raised his voice at you. He has never spoken to you the way he speaks to his bounty. Din always treated you and your adopted son with respect, but today, he decided to yell.
“You are not going and that’s final. Do you understand?” He looks at you as he swings his pulse rifle over his shoulder, helmet in hand. “You are to stay in this ship until I return and if you know better, you’ll be here.” You were not going to let that subtle threat get passed you.
“Who the fuck do you think you’re talking to? If I know better?” You say. You strut over to him and look into his chocolate eyes. “Listen here Mando, If I want to leave this trash can of a ship, I will. I don’t know what has gotten into you today, but you aren’t one to tell me what to do… especially to threaten me.”
You grab your brown shawl and aggressively wrap it around your torso, not giving Din a glance in his direction. You open the door of the cot and smile at your awakening green foundling. You grab a piece of your shawl and open it, revealing a pouch. “Come, ad’ika. You and I are going on an adventure while your buir gets the ship ready to go see Auntie Peli, ok?” Grogu smiles and lifts his hands in a “grabby” motion. You delicately place your child in your arms, head snuggled in your shoulder and wrap him in the shawl. You close the cot and turn to walk to the ramp of the ship, meeting Din as he places his rifle’s extra charges in his boot. You motion to his vambrace and give him a pointed look. “Put on your helmet and open the door. Grogu and I want to take a walk. I want him to see the market line. There has to be one around here.”
Din looks at you and his child and shakes his head. “Grogu isn’t going with you. If you want to be irresponsible and leave, then he stays here.” You scoff and quickly press the ramp button on his vambrace. He says your name as the ramp slowly opens and when you do not respond, he grabs your arm. “Grogu will be safe here. Leave him here.”
“Grogu needs fresh air; not this recycled crap. Now get this ship filled and ready to go.”
Din slips his helmet on his head and his hand into yours, interlocking his gloved fingers with yours. You let out a deep sigh you did not know you caged in and look up at your husband.
“Can you at least allow me to walk you?” He says, eyes filled with sadness at arguing with you. “I just want to make sure you both get there.”
You give his hand a squeeze and a nod. You hated seeing his eyes like this; it hurt you. You were connected by vows, but you both always felt as if the stars aligned the day you met. You never thought you would be traveling the galaxy with a Mandalorian, let alone start a family with one.
Din leans down and connects your forehead with his and you immediately feel serenity. He gives you a quick squeeze of the hand and lets go.
You talked a big game to your husband, but did you really know where you were going? No.
You walked around the part of the city you were the least familiar with, about 25% familiar. You clutched your son to your chest and stopped to analyze your surroundings and realizing you had no idea where you were, but knowing you had to get out. The streets were infiltrated with dark business and quick pacing people trying to get out of there as soon as they can. You walk forward and your ears ringing at the blaring sounds of the honking above you.
“You must be new ‘round here. Never seen someone with a baby walkin’ ‘round like they’re on Naboo.”
You turn around, trying your hardest not to show the absolute fear on your face upon recognizing the Zabrak. One of your hands remain clutching Grogu while the other gets placed on your hip, right above the vibroblade Din made you carry everywhere.
“What’s it to you, Zabrak? I can’t walk around?”
The Zabrak chuckles. “Walkin’ with a kid, huh?” he says as he goes to put a hand on your shawl, right above Grogu.
“Get near my kid and I promise you I’ll let you bleed out.” The Zabrak looks down at his stomach and sees your vibroblade pointed right at the center and ready to puncture. He backs up and puts his hands up.
“I painted you wrong, but let me tell you somethin’… I’m the wrong guy to threaten.” He walks away and once he is out of your line of sight, you quickly walk into an empty alley way. You lean on the wall and slip down, pulling out the commlink that was in your pocket. You let out a shaky breath as you press the button, waiting for it to turn green indicating it has connected.
“D-Din…” you start. You take a deep breath to hide your shaky voice but to no avail. “Din, where are you? I-I need you. Hurry up.”
A deep chuckle comes through the commlink that would normally make you want to drop your pants, but this wasn’t the time. “Now you need me? I thought you knew where you going? I told y-“
“Din!” you interrupt. “Now is not the time for I told you so’s! They’re going to get me and you better get your beskar ass here now.”
“Hey stop. Who’s going to get you?”
“Din hurry up! I’m nea-“ you stop. You hear the Zabrak yell find her and that kid and bring them alive. “Din please hurry.”
“Where. Are. You.”
You hear footsteps coming towards your direction and you run to hide behind a metal container. Grogu feels the commotion and coos out in confusion. You give him a small smile and ask him to hush. You can hear Din’s concerned voice come through asking things like, “Tell me where you are.” “Give me a description” and him calling your name over and over.
You quickly press the button and say, “train track above, glass shop, blue door, in alleyway behind metal can.” and smash the commlink so the Zabrak’s men don’t hear Din’s voice. You look down at Grogu as he looks at you with confusion. “It’s going to be okay, ad’ika. Buir will find you, I promise.”
You were afraid. You knew that Zabrak a long time ago. He terrorized your “neighborhood” and forced your family into poverty and lose some of them, which led you to hate Coruscant. You were surprised he didn’t recognize you, but you were also a kid back then; you grew up, but he clearly didn’t. You felt alone all those years and ended up hitching a ride on some lady’s ship. She realized it after she landed on Dantooine. She was mad and ended up leaving you on Dantooine, but some Rebel took you to Tatooine – the planet you met your husband on.
You knew the consequences you were about to endure, so you wrapped Grogu in your shawl and placed a chaste kiss on his wrinkled forehead. You tucked him behind the container and smiled at him. He coo’s at you and expands a claw towards you. You shake you head and tell him to stay and reminded him about his father coming. You walk out of the alley and run towards a shop, away from the alley so they would not look in there. You whistled and waved your arms around. “Hey spike head! Ya lookin’ for me? Come get me!” The men start running after you and you run. You heart starts beating hard as you try to direct them all away from the alley. You didn’t know if it would work but it did. You kept running into different streets, mazing them around like sheep, but when you looked back, you saw them with wide eyes and stopping in their tracks. You slow your pace and turn around, being met with the visor you hated seeing inside your flying home.
Din felt his blood run cold at the sound of your distressed voice. He knew if you were alone, you would have told him to rendezvous at the ship, but you had your son. Din also knew that you would do anything to protect Grogu, even if that meant your life. He did not want to believe the cry for help, hoping you were wanting to play a prank on him, but when he heard you whisper your description of your location, he had to act fast.
______________
He didn’t want to admit he was scared, but he was terrified. If you knew Coruscant, why would you be scared? There had to be something big after you because he has never heard you scared for your life. Din refused to believe that something could happen to you. As much as the two of you disagreed and argued at times, he couldn’t live without you. He couldn’t live without the one person who looked at him as a person and not a machine.
Sure, you had been scared the first time you’d met, but soon warmed up to the man when you realized he wasn’t looking for you. You had always stood your ground and he loved that about you. You always tested Din’s patience, but it always kept the guy on his toes. No matter how much the two of you could be mad at each other, it never lasted more than a couple hours. Din would go insane if it did.
Din cursed at himself. He knew he wouldn’t be able to use his jetpack because of the low riding aircrafts, so what did he do? He left it in the ship. He pondered on your clues.
He recalls a train track close to the Crest, not a far walk at all and definitely a shorter sprint. He spots the train track and as soon as he catches a breath, he asks a local about a glass shop near a blue door. They point him towards the street and breathes out a thank you as he runs toward you. He sees the blue door in the distance, but he also spots men walking around as if looking for something, or someone. He slithers through the channel of alleyways and locates an alley that over looks the train track, the glass shop and is directly infront of the blue door. He runs towards the metal container as you said was there and hears the familiar cooing emitting behind it. He moves the container and sees Grogu swaddled in your brown shawl with tears in his big eyes. Din kneels and picks his upset son.
“You’re okay, ad’ika. We’re going to find buir and get them out of trouble, okay?”
Grogu coos and lets out an “uhoh.” Din smiling and agreeing, putting Grogu in his pack.
Din hears the commotion of running and spots a group of men running after a figure, your figure. He knew your pattern. You’d run until you lost them and would swivel between streets to get them confused.
Din jogged to a street four streets over and waited at the end of it, smiling as he saw you, safe and alive, and your “posse” run straight into it. He had Grogu in his pack at his waist and smirked as Grogu hid inside. Din placed his hand on his blaster and the other pushing Grogu and the pack behind him. His heart skipped at beat and all his worries vanished as he noticed your smile upon recognizing him.
______________
You ran to Din and wrapped your arms around him. You let go immediately since his stance with public affection still was not the best. He pushed you behind him, removing the pack with Grogu and handing it to you. You opened the lapel and smiled at your son as he nibbled on your shawl.
“I can explain,” you said.
“Explain what? The angry mob chasing you? I’d love for you to,” he said. You heard the smirk in his voice, internally thanking the Maker that he was not livid with you.
The Zabrak came forward and stopped on his heels as he saw your husband.
“Huh… Haven’t seen many Mandos lately.”
“Ahkoi,” Din greeted.
The Zabrak stopped and realization hit his eyes. He chuckled and even let out a wheeze as he took a good look at your husband and walked forward. “Mando? That you under there? This one here with you?”
You looked up at your husband as he nodded. How did he know Ahkoi?
“This one got themselves in a lot of trouble, Mando. We just wanted to teach ‘em a lesson, ya know?” He gives Din a pat on his shoulder and attempts to walk over to you, but Din pushes him back.
“Lay a hand on them and you’ll be missing it.” Din threatens.
Ahkoi nods at Din and walks backwards. Din can sense your uneasiness and fear, so he reaches a hand back physically asking for your hand, and you oblige.
“Haven’t changed, huh Mando? They talk like you.”
“Here’s what is going to happen, Ahkoi. You tell your men to get off the roofs and stop pointing their blasters at them. We’re going to go back to our ship and we’re leaving.”
Ahkoi shakes his head at Din. “They broke a lot of rules, Mando. I can’t just let it slide, even if they are with ya.”
“What they do? Told you to back off and get out of their face? Tell your men to stand down, or I will.” Din states, lifting the blaster up to Ahkoi’s head.
Ahkoi tells his men to stand down and you look around seeing about 20 men on rooftops lower their weapons. It should make you feel better, but it only makes you tense as you failed to realize they could have shot you down a long time ago.
“Fine. They can go, but lesson learned.” Ahkoi looks behind Din and over to you. “How ‘bout you take that breath you were wanting to a long time ago, huh?”
You hear Din jump off the ladder and come into the hull as you patch up a tunic the baby decided would be fun to cut. Even though you heard him, you could not help but flinch as he places a kiss at the top of your head. You quickly apologize to him and look up at him. He takes a seat next to you and puts a gentle hand on your thigh, which relaxes you a bit. You sigh and drop your sewing tools, standing up and sitting in Din’s lap. He wraps his strong arms around and you make your head comfortable on his chest. He hums a soft tune, and you smile, recognizing the song as the song you hum to him when he is having a bad day.
“I’m sorry, riduur,” you say. “I thought I knew where we were going, but I didn’t think he’d be there. I should’ve listened to you and stayed here.”
“I’m sorry for talking to you the way I did. I knew what part of the planet we were in and I didn’t want you going out there. I could have gone about it differently.”
“Why is it that whenever we get into an argument, our days always turn out the worst?” you joke.
“Because we are one whether together or apart and being angry at each other messes that balance up, obviously.”
You give him a kiss on his throat and smile when it vibrates as he laughs. “Thank you for protecting us. I only put Grogu in danger.”
“I’ll always protect the two of you. You just wanted Grogu to see new things. I can’t blame you for that.” You look up and smile at him. He smiles back and places a kiss on your lips. He pulls away and you see his lips turn into a smirk.
“However, I can blame you for turning me into a worried mess. Who gives discreet clues like that? Blue door,” he mocks. “There can be so many blue doors on this giant kriffin’ planet!”
You laugh and bring him down for another kiss, mumbling a quick “shut up”.

Padawan
Grogu and Din introduce Luke to a friend
-
Again, I wrote this late at night and I haven't proofread. I am not a great writer but I thought that this was adorable so I wanted to write it down. Slight DinLuke mentions. This story can also be found on Wattpad. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
It was a peaceful day at the temple. The padawans had the day of so in turn, Luke had some time to relax. Grogu's adoptive father, a Mandalorian called Din Djarin, would come and pick Grogu up in a few hours to have a father-son day.
Luke knew that the Jedi of old didn't agree to attachments with other people, including parents. But something stirred in him when he first picked up Grogu all those months ago. The Mandalorian and Child had a deep connection that wasn't easily broken. Grogu was practically unmanagable when he joined the newly established Jedi temple, and it wasn't until he got his metal ball, a replacement from what he used to play with on his father's ship, and the promise that his dad would visit him soon that he cooperated in the lessons.
Din visited once every two months and Luke got to know the man behind the helmet a bit. After all, the Mandalorian gave his name to him, which he knew was not commonly done. A tiny smile krept on the Master's face as he remembered that day..
Shaking out of the memory, Luke got up from his desk chair and made his way to the sleeping chambers of his pupils. It was about time he got Grogu ready. There weren't many pupils in Luke's temple. His own nephew wouldn't join until he was old enough to show the signs of the Force, but he was certain that he would grow up to be a powerful Jedi.
Knocking on a wooden door at the end of the hallway, a happy coo was heard. Luke opened the door to see Grogu play with his metal ball. The metal was starting to look less polished because of the creature's clawed, green hands. This obviously didn't bother the little alien as he couldn't be parted with it. Through the Force, Luke could feel Grogu's happiness. He knew what today meant.
As if on cue, the loud rumbling of a spaceship could be heard. Grogu squealed and hobbled to his tiny window as fast as he could. The familiar form of the Razor Crest landed closeby. Luke picked up the green baby and smiled down at him.
"Let's go greet your father, little one" he said with a tiny smile. His robes whooshed as he turned around, his leather boots clicking on the tiles as he powerwalked to the entrance. He too was happy to see the Mandalorian again. He was like a friend to him, although not in the way Han is a friend to him. It felt like... more. Luke had to surpress it though. Some people still remembered the Jedi of old, and remembered their customs. Even though most had forgotten, he still needed to be an example to the galaxy.
As the black-clad man and baby stepped outside, the hull door of the spaceship lowered to the ground. A cloud of dust sprang up as the metal hit the ground. The beskar clad man was quick to make his way to the two people in the yard. Happy to see Grogu for a bit. Grogu, in turn, cooed loudly upon seeing Mando.
"He has been behaving very well. He is slowly picking up his lessons. Every day his connection with the Force grows stronger" the sandy haired man said as he stopped in front of the metal clad bounty hunter. "I'm happy to hear that" the bounty hunter said, stroking the baby's green ears affectionately.
Luke handed Grogu over to Din. "I hope to have him back by dinner-" "Actually," Mando interrupted the Jedi Master. "I was wondering if you would like to join us.. Just for today. I think Grogu would like it" to which the Child indeed cooed loudly, raising a clawed hand towards Luke. "I understand if you are busy but he- we would very much like it"
It wasn't often that he saw the beskar clad man in a nervous state. In fact, he can't remember if he ever got nervous before. But Din was moving his weight from one leg to the other and looking around anywhere but at Luke. It was kind of cute...
Luke stowed away his thoughts for now and just grinned at the tall man in front of him. "I would very much like to. I don't go on many adventures anymore. Let me inform my second in command and I shall join you" he said, staying professional even though there wasn't really any reason to be this professional to the man.
Din nodded and turned to his ship, carrying Grogu to it as Luke made his way to his second in command. He quickly relied the message that he would be gone for the afternoon but would hopefully return before midnight. As he finished instructing the Twi'lek female, he made haste to join the father and son on the ship.
It didn't take long for Luke to be settled in and Mando to start the ship. The planet on which he build the new Jedi temple becoming smaller until he felt the familiar lurch of lightspeed. It took a few seconds before Luke was comfortable enough to talk to the Mandalorian.
"Where are we going?" He first asked. He knew he could look into the Mando's head for answers, but he had too much respect to infiltrate the man's mind. "A planet called Corvus. It isn't the most comfortable planet, but we want you to meet someone." Din responded. Grogu gurgled happily and Luke could vagually make out what he was saying: "Very nice, she is. Helped us, she did".
"Who is 'she'?" Luke asked, more to himself than to the two other beings in the cockpit. But nonetheless Mando responded: "You will see, no need to ruin the surprise".
It took exactly two hours when they started to lower into the atmosphere of Corvus. Luke looked at the fires that spread through it. Like it was never meant to be a forest planet, but trees grew anyway just to burn down because of the drought. As they landed close by a walled village, the white mist was almost omenous as ashes hung in the air.
Luke sensed her. She was somewhere inside the village. She almost seemed familliar even though Luke was certain that he never felt such a Force signature before. Whoever she was, was powerful, and most likely has trained like a Jedi. He wondered if she was interested in joining the Jedi again.
Before he realised it, the trio was decending from the Crest and started to walk into the village. Luke followed Din like an uncertain puppy. Because even though he was strong, he felt very out of place on this planet.
It seemed like the crackling of far away forest fires were always heard. Other than that, and the trio's footsteps, the village was quiet. Not many people were out and about and those that were slunk into the background. Luke had no idea why but he had a feeling that Din has scared these people a little.
It wasn't a big village and soon they were met with double doors. They were already opened, seemingly jammed and melted into place by a familiar weapon. Luke's fingers subconsciously stroked his own Lightsaber as they passed through the beautiful garden and to the last and biggest home in the village.
Before Din could knock, the doors flew open and a Togruta woman stood in front of them. Luke could make out a few wrinkles in her face. Her eyes shone wisdom and loss and on her belt she had two 'saber hilts. Even though he had felt her presence before, he was surprised to see the two powerful weapons hanging from her belt.
"Mando, Grogu. It is very nice to see you again. I see you have found a Jedi to train him? Please, do come in" the woman's smooth voice said. The trio stepped into the home and followed their host to the living room. As they all sat down, Grogu playing with a piece of fabric on the floor, Din introduced the two.
"Luke, this is Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka, Luke Skywalker." As the words left the Mandalorian's lips, the two people looked at eachother with wide eyes. "That's why you are familiar.. It is a pleasure, Luke, to finally meet you. I knew your parents..." She drifted off, thinking back to her Padawan time, thinking of 'her' Skyguy.
Mando had quietly taken Grogu with him outside to let the two Jedi talk. The moment Ahsoka had spoken, he felt like the two needed to speak in private, and havinf a babbling kid around wouldn't help them get to talking. This was a private moment, he knew.
Back with the two Jedi, Luke carefully placed his hand on Ahsoka's. "I have never met them.. truly met them. But I know they cared for you, miss Tano. Ben told me about you" he said, trying to comfort the Togruta woman. "Please," Ahsoka said "call me Ahsoka. And.. who is Ben, if you don't mind me asking? I don't think I've met one" her mind fluttered through memories, trying to remember a 'Ben'.
"My aunt, uncle and I knew him as Ben Kenobi, but his true name was Obi-Wan Kenobi." Luke said calmly. He could see one hundered emotions go through Ahsoka's eyes. Her Force signature seemed to pulse with the same emotions. Happiness, sadness, admiration, respect, hope, love and grief. "Master Kenobi... I... I felt him join the Force a while ago.." Ahsoka swallowed thickly. "He was a nice man. A very good General. Caring, but he never truly understood Anakin" Ahsoka smiled at a few memories that fluttered through her mind. So strong, that they were projected in Luke's mind. Visions of the start of the Clone Wars projected in his mind. A young Ahsoka standing next to a tall, dark haired man he assumed to be his father, Anakin, and a slightly shorter man with an auburn beard that looked very much like a young Ben Kenobi.
"Sorry" Ahsoka said, as the memories stopped playing. "I don't think back a lot to.. that time. I wish you could've met your father... I still cannot believe he changed to the Dark Side" Ahsoka sighed. She was about to stand up as Luke responded to her: "That is the thing, I have met him. In the end, I got to see him. The real him. Anakin. And though our moment was brief, his love was real, and I am glad to have met him" his words shocked Ahsoka. Tears pricked in her eyes as she looked around the room. "I want to believe you-" she whispered, the tears now streaming down her face.
"He is telling the truth" a voice behind them said. Turning around, the two were met with the blue Force Ghost of Anakin Skywalker. "My son is telling the truth, Snips" a smile formed on Anakin's face as he looked at his old Padawan with fondness.
"Skyguy..."
