thinking about why i love the jamie/sy dynamic so much. i think it comes fundamentally from their difference: sy's inability to remember, and jamie's inability to forget. we tend to think of memory as something passive, some kind of inevitable degradation, but--as sy reminds us every so often--to forget is something active, a pathway to advantage and strength.

nietzsche discusses this concept in depth in his genealogy of morals: for nietzsche, forgetting is "no mere vis inertiae as the superficial imagine; it is rather an active and in the strictest sense positive faculty of repression," "an apparatus of absorption," "a plastic, regenerative and curative force." finally he concludes, "What we experience and absorb enters our consciousness as little while we are digesting it . . . as does the thousandfold process involved in physical nourishment . . . so that it will be immediately obvious how there could be no happiness, no cheerfulness, no hope, no pride, no present, without forgetfulness." sy is the innocent child who cannot hold onto details that have no immediate value for him. this way, he is closer to a hippo or a vine: he is driven by desire or will alone, rather than some kind of historical debt. this is why he is reckless, difficult to control.

jamie, meanwhile, is of course the opposite. he is cursed to remember everything. he has an inescapable debt to memory in the form of his notebook. make no mistake: this is a punishment. nietzsche writes, "‘A thing must be burnt in so that it stays in the memory: only something that continues to hurt stays in the memory." to me, this suggests that jamie is in constant psychic pain, poor baby. perhaps this is why he must adopt his trademark cautious, skeptical, and above all passive demeanor.

this may also shed some light on the nobility's fascination with project caterpillar--at first it is easy to assume that they intend to use it for themselves as yet another "upgrade," but more likely in my view is that they intend to use it on their subjects. nietzsche documents how, in order to develop the faculty for memory in humans (because it would be a mistake to assume that it is "natural"; most if not all other living beings are incapable of memory in the way we understand it) it was first necessary to punish. punishment creates a kind of "memory of the future," it creates fear to control the natural animal impulse. we remember what happened to recipient of punishment and prevent ourselves from committing that same transgression. it stands to reason, therefore, that the nobility would like to make it impossible for the general public to forget, as it could only increase the nobility's power and control.

The entire conversation lasted about 8 minutes, but most of that time was just silence between each exchange, so I edited out the long pauses and got it down to ~3 minutes. I also fixed the audio levels and added subtitles since I personally find it difficult to understand Oscurucho sometimes :'D

bokuto can't help but have his hands on you at all times of the day. it's sometimes inconvenient but if he touches you less and sits next to you without having his hands on you in some way you feel down, it just isn't right.

you want him to grab hold of your love handles and pull you towards him like normal. want him to pull you into his lap while you complain that you might be too heavy and you should just sit next to him. bokuto normally smells your hair and whispers to you making a chill run up your spine. he kneads your thighs and presses his fingers into your skin because he "can't help it, you just feel so soft." tells you how pretty you are and how beautiful you look. and right now he's doing none of that, it's been like that for a full day and it's driving you mad, you're going crazy and you just want him to touch you again.

bokuto isn't doing it on purpose, he wants to respect your boundaries, you complain whenever he touches you in public or around people or if he lifts you and manhandles you so he's stopped doing it. just in case there is some truth in what you're saying he wants to make sure you're comfortable and it's better safe then sorry.

"i'm off to practice now baby." bokuto tells you before he bends down onto the sofa from where you're sitting and kisses your forehead.

you say okay but you can't help but pout, you've been pouting all morning. before he opens the door he hears you mumble "still don't know why you're not touching me properly though," he leaves but reflects on what you said all the way to practice, sad that he's made you unhappy. it's something that he never thought would happen, he hates it.

it clicks into place halfway during practice about what you mean and he can't stop himself from laughing, getting some questionable looks from his teammates. that's just like you if things don't go your own way, maybe that's why you're so compatible together, you both just get each other. after practice ends bokuto knows exactly where you'll be, you'll be getting both you and him a drink and you've got the biggest sweet tooth around so also some kind of sweet treat from your favourite coffee shop.

he saw you earlier on in the day but he misses you already, he sees you waiting in line and runs up from behind with the biggest smile on his face clutching onto your pudgy waist as he asks you if you're going to be good now and let him hold you. "i...i don't know what you're talking about." you splutter.

bokuto grin widens. "okay-" he starts before he begins to unwrap his arms around you, causing you to reach up him and pull his hands tighter around you.

upon reflection from my eras show I have three criticisms: 1) WHY was long live cut and but daddy I love him added. if there's ever a time for songs about loving your fans not hating them it's when you're sharing a room with like 80k of them?? 2) mastermind is the dead weight of the setlist, the archer deserved to stay instead! 3) the worst part of the show is the standing ovation after champagne problems I'M SORRY but it felt soo forced like a spontaneous prolonged crowd response at an emotional moment is lovely but it just felt like "and now is the allocated time for me to just stand here and look surprised whilst you all cheer for several minutes" and it dragged

Something something S4 shows through Nancy how someone can be pressured into a relationship by well meaning people, how easy it is to project your significant other onto someone familiar when they're gone, something something Nancy only started giving Steve eyes during situations he reminded her of key moments in her relationship with Jonathan, how you could see all over her face that she was going to reject him, how the audiences emotions are lined up with Steve and not her and the fact that Steve wants a girlfriend so badly means the audience wants him to have a girlfriend too bc he deserves it ! He's grown so he can do better this time ! She CAN love him ! Look ! The people who just officially met them this week think they're true love ! But Nancy is in love with Jonathan. But Steve wants a white picket fence life at the end of a cul-de-sac with 6 children, which Nancy said herself is like her worst nightmare. But Steve was never the problem in their relationship. Nancy didn't love him. Nancy is not a prize. He doesn't deserve her for changing. And the people trying to matchmake them DO NOT KNOW BOTH PARTIES WELL. Robin JUST officially started talking to Nancy, all she really has to go off of is whatever Steve has told her and EDDIE met BOTH OF THEM officially like three days ago. All he knows is their reputations really, and that "act of true love" was entirely typical of Nancy's character and she would've done it for just about anyone she cares about, he doesn't know that though because he doesn't know her. And she ended the season in her bf's arms setting up their conflict in s5 while Steve ended the season alone but with his friends.

Either way, I actually planned to draw these 2 WAY earlier, but then my dumbass forgot abt that until Abyss/azurewishing drew Tempest on sunday that I suddenly remembered that I DO want to do that. And then nearly 15 hours total later, this exist.
