I will never not find it hilarious that one of Kaz's main skills is close-up magic like I know it's because it's good for pickpocketing and it shows how he always wants to know how things work so. my friend told me she thinks oda is just a guy who can imagine having empathy for a lot of people even if he doesn't necessarily truly get the experience from a firsthand perspective and i see no other better argument for that being true than vegapunk. oda imagined a guy he thought was probably never going to happen in real life, had empathy and understood that created character so much that it translated into real life systems liking vegapunk a ton because odas constructed guy that he made up had so much detail and care put into his conceptualization that it translated into depicting real human experience in a way that resonated heavily, unintentionally.

but it came from a sense of empathy and understanding for an experience he never thought he'd have or he never thought anybody would have and thats odas strength as a writer.

fucking hell this is why i tend to use rust. i'm trying to find a library for the tumblr API in C# and there's one that's years old and using old standards so i tried seeing how hard it is to make one and immediately ran into the fact that C# cannot deserialise discriminated unions without having to write custom deserialisers because it just doesn't support that as a language feature

frustrated, i said fuck it and had a look to see if there was one in rust. there is, and it's been updated recently, so i can go in and make PRs if i need to. i cannot escape this language
