I think that part of what like. kills me about the whole media literacy and critical thinking aspect of enjoying media these days is that people refuse to like. contextualize that

A. Bad media can still hold significant meaning to people

B. Media made for a demographic you aren’t apart of is not inherently bad media

C. Media made for and consumed by the opposite demographic is not inherently shallow or flawed nor is it above criticism for its media tropes either.

#unimportant thoughts #i dont feel like dropping specifics in post but like. people online drive me legitimately insane #good example is Ready Player One. its an okay book but people LOVE to hate on it for being a shallow nostalgia grab for old male demographic #and like. yeah. but also comsider that it Was written earnestly by a man in that demographic? and that people enjoyed it???#and maybe im soft hearted but my Dad was a nerd in the 80’s so both of us reading that book and comparing our experiences with it and #learning about his childhood from him. it was awesome yk??? was the book groudbreaking or particularly moving? no #are there a lot of fair criticisms you can make about the book regarding its poorly written female characters and painfully male tone #throughout? absolutely. its not the most vile piece of media its barely mediocre and its not the best thing since sliced bread either #and it kills me because instead of being able to have conversations like thay #people just attack and attack and attack and ATTACK #I don’t know i think the rise of this booktook wattpad level romance smut is another big part of this #are those books incredible? no. definitely not. are they decent? yeah theyre fine enough #are their characters shallow; do they follow tropes; are the characters clearly romanticized objects for us to googoo eye over? yeah #so fucking what??? they arent winning pulitzer prizes theyre just popular online and easily accesible #people love consumbable media thats not an inherently bad thing #and i think its hypocritical for people to defend one and attack the other or even to attack both #media doesnt exist to be appropriately Deep and Meaningful before people are allowed to consume and enjoy it #like. i think theres a LOT of levels of undestanding compassion and respect that people need to reach before these conversations are worth #anything. because right now it really feels like girls and boys arguing back and forth on the playground over whos show is better #anyways. i could go on but i wont.#bottom line i suggest you take a deep look at how ‘realistic’ and ‘meaningful’ the media you enjoy actually fucking is before you start #critizing other media for being too shallow or unrealistic depictions of something #hate to break it to you guys but 90% of fictional characters are fictional and dont act like people irl ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

it's really a shame I have to sell 40+ of my life hours every week for poverty wages instead of spending all my time and energy on dozens of creative and technical pursuits with unlimited resources

#nerd alert #lets see if i can list all the hobbies i wish i could be doing instead of working #drawing. both traditional and digital. painting mostly acrylic but id like to get good at watercolors. drawing/writing comics #writing in general. fiction nonfiction poetry lyrics whatever. composing music. music production. singing. practicing piano and guitar #performing someday maybe!#sculpting too. i always forget bc i never do it bc i am never in a place to justify buying clay. i should just get some #i think im fairly good at it tbh. anyway.#knitting. sewing. mending and modding clothes in general. embroidery. id like to learn to crochet at some point #photography and scrapbooking sound appealing. photo editing.#web design. game design. 3d modeling. these are all things i dont really know how to do much of but id like to #animation. voice acting. regular acting. honestly a lot of stuff in the filmmaking process sounds fascinating id like to try some of it #tarot reading. is that a hobby? im gonna say yes. jewelry making.#lots of these ive only dabbled in and some i havent even done that but would like to. but i have no time and or money to get into them.#i would hardly call myself a master at any of these. jack of all trades as it were. and thats fine im fine w that #but given the time and resources i think i could make so many different diverse perfectly average to good things #that people could enjoy in passing or say 'oh how neat :)' about

haateeee that in high school science classes they dont introduce you to like. the greek alphabet. bc i just found out (2 days before the exam) that ive been writing phi when i shouldve been writing ro in a formula. like. my contact w the greek alphabet is none. they just expect us to know these things bro😭

#im completely fine w using the greek alphabet in formulas. the language nerd in me loves it. but im not enough of a language nerd #to double check formulas and what the teachers say tbh #anyways like its not /that/ much of a big deal i guess. but it IS. TO ME #at the same time tho. it is bc i can easily confuse (and i have) pressure (ro) with other variables (for now i use phi (that i know of)#in electricity. so im safe from confusing it w pressure)#but id been writing the formula w ro and everything......😭#anyways please bring back latin and ancient greek as mandatory classes for sciences. AT LEAST the biology sciences #would be nice for technology sciences too (in high school) but i think #that most that most eng degrees (except for mine and maybe forestry which are more bio oriented) dont use that much latin and greek #EITHER WAY tho it wouldve been cool to know at least the basics... do u know how much knowing latin helps in botany (a class which ive had)#like my mom that know both latin and botany just tells me 'yeah this plant is called 'whatever alba' bc its white #LIKE I JUST WANT THE BASICS!!!!!#z xarre

im still not 100% sure when season 14 of bob's burgers is going to release like they SAY episode one will allegedly premiere on october 1st but beyond that im just imagining a 6 month hiatus bcuz both the writers AND the voice actors of the show are striking and they couldn't have got that far into production honestly

#i wish there was somebody i could just straight up ask about the production process #but this isnt like object shows u cant just @ people on twitter or tumblr and ask questions!!! sad!!!!!#obviously this isnt the actors or writers fault btw i support them striking and its the executives fault for not paying them properly #BUT im a nerd and i like knowing when things are going to come out #and right now they're just going with “everything will be totally normal and fine with season 14” which does not seem likely #especially bcuz writers are constantly editing and changing the scripts late into production and even if the scripts were technically done #that doesn't mean they were actually FINISHED or that the episodes are up to standard quality #we will see what happens ig #txt #bob's burgers
