rambling a leetle cuz i wanted to expand on my tangchung lgbt/romance headcanons..feel free 2 ignore i just wanted to finally write this down somewhere so it stops driving me crazy

chung myung is a gay trans man and tang bo is a cis gay man..someone posited t4t tangchung 2 me a while back which rules so hard but for some reason tang bo being cis is funnier to me idk i cant explain it..yallre just gonna have to trust me on this one

chung myung always knew he was trans since he was a kid because being called/treated like a young lady always pissed him the fuck off soooo bad..he complained about it to chung mun one day and the next day everybody in the sect started referring to him as a young man and that was that, they love their littlest brother very much.. hes non dysphoric but when he grows up he goes on whatever the wuxia equivalent of T is but doesnt get top surgery cuz hes always been fine w how his body looked.. my nonop trans masc king fr!!!!!!!!!

he didnt figure out he was gay until a decade or two after he met tang bo tho LOLLL he never had any interest in women but he also didnt really care for many men either so he just assumed he didnt really gaf about romance.. after he met tang bo, he fell in love slowly but didnt realize it because, since hes never held romantic affection towards anyone before, he wouldntve recognized the feeling to put a name to it anyway so once he and tang bo got close and settled into a comfortable friendship, it CLICKS and he finally realizes and goes ‘ah.. im in love w tang bo.. time to never ever tell him and yearn after him forever’

tang bo is gay and i feel like hes always known.. hes a rich respectable young master from an influential family and i feel like he went through a lot of potential arranged courtships in his youth w many various young ladies, NONE of whom he liked and sabotaged their arranged dates at every chance he got until the elders of his family just gave up.. the first girl he ever got paired up w was demure and quiet and graceful, exactly how a proper young lady should act and everything a man would want in a prospective wife, however the moment tang bo laid his eyes on her he felt nothing but distain and derision, his first thought was ‘id rather marry a MAN’ and then his brain stuck on that thought and he took it to bed w him and that night while he was staring at the ceiling of his chambers he thought ‘i suppose i do wish to marry a man’… hes closeted however and had to suffer through many arranged dates w many women all the way up into his twilight years, when he finally meets chung myung.. it wasnt love at first sight but, like chung myung, it was slow and saccharine except he knew it was love the moment he felt his heart flutter at the sight of chung myung smiling at him, eyes crinkling and warm, over the rim of a wine glass

ok so like i dont feel like doing research tonight but tomorrow i will but heres like a little tidbit of the stuff that just makes me side eye the jedi order. like dont quote me on any of this im dead tired and not doing research rn ill do that tomorrow but

So in Episode 1 we learn that nine is too old to begin Jedi Training. I’m not sure the precise age but they do start YOUNG. Like super young. Clone Wars is considered canon so the holocron containing all the names of known force sensitive infants is also very much present in the star wars universe. 

As far as I can tell, the reason they are placed in the order so young is so that they have no meaningful connections to anyone outside of the order. And like? The children really never get to see their families again and even if they do there’s literally no strong bond because the Order has basically made it so. I think it teeters on the idea of you can mold kids a lot better when theyre younger rather than old enough to have started forming their own beliefs? Relations are banned too and like I don’t care about Anakin/Padme at all but like their whole relationship was this big secret of a thing. No attatchments. 

Therapy I guess doesn’t exist for the Jedi I just have to assume. They make all this big fuss about Anakin being full of anger and hate and don’t take into account the reasonings and like? Just meditate is the answer which one, shut up , two like therapy and working through the issues would be greatly beneficial for letting go and I mean whats the problem yallre so bent on not falling to the dark side of the force. I feel like so many of their issues could be served by just having a jedi therapist. But nah man youre just full of hate and anger. 

They indoctrinate these kids as infants. They dont have a say int he matter because they are babies. As far as I can tell most families consider it a great honor to have a kiddo in the order so agree to them joining without a second thought. And I think if they say no it’s supposed to be left at that. Which I assume is the thing. However. Theyre so bent on keeping people falling to the dark side idk if theyd really let that chance happen because apparently attatchments are a path to the darkside or something. And two like we know Jedi have the ability to persuade weak minded individuals with the force so I dont like those implications. 

Oh also they put literal children in the Clone Wars even going so far as having them lead missions with clone troopers at their command and just everthing having to do with that really just.

so first things first, again, im not shitting on any davekat shippers personally. hell i think the OTHER two mods of this blog ship it and i know that a whooooole ton of you guys do too. i love yall, this is just how i see davekat itself

to me though its just. not.. a substantial ship. yknow? and to top it all off i have the humongous fucking aroace headcanon that ive pinned to dave since he first showed up in the comic anyway

first things first my headcanon plays into the matter. i saw a lot of myself in him since i started reading in 2015, a lot of his phrasings and the way hed skitter around talking about love for like half the comic was a HUGE and RELATABLE thing for me. i get that a gay kid could also easily do those things the same reason an aroace kid could, not knowing how falling outside of “ThE nOrM” would go, sure, but. me kin id ya know

he didnt understand quadrants at all and refused to talk about them when the other kids did understand, or at least were interested in the topic. dave? completely shut it down like the second it was brought up. and oh god when itd get to specifically HIS quadrants? remember that whole entire memo when karkat told him and john not to talk to vriska and terezi anymore? literally dave the whole time “okay are we done. can we not. can we not. are we done. oh my god. great next”

so with all the instances like that going down my headcanon was born. and holy hell is that motherfucker hard to drop

dealing with actual dave ships in general? almost all of them are either broken off asap or skitted around without actually talking about them at all, minus like an off-hand mention or two. example: the three year trip. davesprite breaks up with jade for a reason implied to be “hes not the real dave” and thats it. cmon now

pre retcon meteor trip. sure terezis in the mix but again we never really get any actual substance in the comic. we get “DID DAVE BREAK UP WITH YOU?” once from karkat to terezi during openbound. and to tie this all back into davekat? pre retcon davekat doesnt.. happen. at all. its just two bros being dudes. hell they end up dropping the terezi quadrant notion anyway by the time they get to the alpha session

POST RETCON. suddenly vriska shows up and theyre… magically in a relationship

i get they had other things to focus on when vriska wasnt there yeah. but if rosemary can be a consistent factor, drunk rose or sober rose, vriska or no vriska, then shouldnt davekat, a ship implied to be the mlm equivalent to rosemary, have done the same thing? terezi was still there and its a little unrealistic that vriska took up so much of terezis time that dave and karkat would go “oh.” and just drop her altogether

and even after the retcon the only romantic thing that even happens between dave and karkat is a lot of other people going ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) at them, assuming thats whats going on, with no actual confirmation from either party. that and the fact that karkats last line off dialogue was “I HOPE HE’S OKAY.” worrying about dave.

my whole point is davekat is written like it was a last minute add in solely as a nod toward mlm when there were so many other better suited people with a history and chemistry and personalities that actually could have fit together. JOHNKAT fit together. yall remember johnkat? or there could have been a dirkjake revival that focused on dirk bettering himself and them working toward a healthier relationship. or maybe tavros could have stayed alive and he and gamzee could have gone in further in whatever direction they kind of went in. we could have even had a canon kismesisitude between sollux and eridan, or- hear me out- a fuckin.
