Okay, so this is kind of a funny story. Like, my pipeline through hp pairings was a weird one. Like, I used to read a lot of Harry pairings, still do on occasion (some make more sense than others). None of them were ones I would point at and say: "that should've happened in the books"

One day, I was innocently writing a fic (canon divergence of GoF), and it was just for me, for funnsies, never posted it anywhere and not planning to. And I planned to pair Harry with someone there (honestly, I don't remember who because I didn't write the plan down) but when writing, Harry ended up with a different character. And it was so strange to me because that never happened.

Like, how do you write a ship accidentally?

But I did. I wrote Harry into a ship by accident. So I went back to the books to try and figure out why the hell would my subconscious decide that's the way to go.

I'll also preface it by all this being my subjective opinion and I do read other Harry ships in fics, this one just quickly became my favorite to write (and the only one I write). Also, I don't actually think this is a pairing that should've happened in the books, it's place is in fic and that's where I like it.

So, the character I accidentally shipped with Harry is... *drumroll*

Stan Shunpike!

Not really, it's:

Theodore Nott

Now, you might look at the name and go: "Who the fuck is that?"

And you'll be correct. Theo has 0 speaking lines in the entire book series. His name appears twice. He, himself, as a person, only appeared on page, like, 3 times in the background. The scene that gives the most information about him is other characters talking about him. He isn't even present.

That being said, I'm very good at extrapolating a lot of information from very little evidence. So allow me, to walk you through who is Theodore Nott and why I ship him with Harry.

Basic Information

So, let's start with the most basic overview before I pull out the quotes and go any deeper.

We know Theo is a Slytherin student in Harry's year. So he likely shares a dorm with Draco, Blaise, Crabbe, and Goyle.

Theo's father is both at the graveyard at the end of GoF and in the Department of Mysteries at the end of OotP, so we know he is a Death Eater. We also know Thoe's father was one of the first and closest Death Eaters to Voldemort, who waited for him during his interview with Dumbledore in 1967:

“Then if I were to go to the Hog’s Head tonight, I would not find a group of them — Nott, Rosier, Mulciber, Dolohov — awaiting your return? Devoted friends indeed...”

We also know the Nott family is "as pure-blooded as the Malfoys" according to JKR in an interview. We also know Theo's great-grandfather (maybe? the family relation isn't clear), Cantankerus Nott, is suspected to be the one who wrote the Pure-Blood Dictionary, the book that coined the term "Sacred 28" and made that list (which the Nott family are on).

The name Nott is potentially to be derived from the name Nótt, which is the personification of the night in Norse Mythology. So it has been theorized the Nott family have a Nordic origin. Possible, but it doesn't really matter for this post.

What does, is that he comes from a dark, Death Eater, blood-purist family similar to the Malfoys. Even so, Theo never took the Dark Mark and never joined Voldemort in the books.

Now, that we have the basic information out of the way, let's look at Theodore as a person.

All the details I could gather from the books

Alright, now we get to the fun part. That is, me going through all the relevant scenes that mention Theodore Nott and actually creating a character psychoanalysis out of basically nothing.

So, the quotes aren't organized in a particular order. I'm just going to explain Theo and then explain why all this makes me ship him with Harry.

“Well, I pity Slughorn’s taste. Maybe he’s going a bit senile. Shame, my father always said he was a good wizard in his day. My father used to be a bit of a favorite of his. Slughorn probably hasn’t heard I’m on the train, or —” “I wouldn’t bank on an invitation,” said Zabini. “He asked me about Nott’s father when I first arrived. They used to be old friends, apparently, but when he heard he’d been caught at the Ministry he didn’t look happy, and Nott didn’t get an invitation, did he? I don’t think Slughorn’s interested in Death Eaters.” Malfoy looked angry, but forced out a singularly humorless laugh.

(HBP, page 150)

This is a part of the conversation between Draco, Pansy, and Blaise, Harry overhears when he is hiding in their compartment at the beginning of HBP. I have a few things to note regarding this scene.

Firstly, throughout this conversation, Pansy, Blaise, and Draco all call each other by their first name. This shows closeness, they are all friendly and familiar enough to use their first names with each other. Theo, though, is referred to as "Nott" by all three in the compartment.

He doesn't actually sit in their compartment which is in itself a sign about how he isn't really friendly with Draco's group. Considering the group is most of his year from his house, Theo is likely very lonely, and it will be apparent from other scenes I bring up later.

Secondly, Theo's father is in Azkaban. We know Draco is bothered about his own father's predicament. He mentions it to Harry and bothers him over it, Theo doesn't though. Theo doesn't seem to be bothered by Harry or his father's incarceration.

The only conclusion I can draw from this is that the relationship between Theo and his father is not a good one.

(I know some fics like to have Lucius be abusive towards Draco, for some reason. But the books really don't back this up. Lucius loves Draco and Draco adores his father)

Theo, though, Theo seems to be the one with a very strained relationship with his father. Strained enough that he isn't bothered the man is in Azkaban. What I'm saying is that Theo's father likely abuses or mistreats him in some capacity.

If anything more was needed to complete Harry’s happiness, it was Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle’s reactions. He saw them with their heads together later that afternoon in the library, together with a weedy-looking boy Hermione whispered was called Theodore Nott. They looked around at Harry as he browsed the shelves for the book he needed on Partial Vanishment, and Goyle cracked his knuckles threateningly and Malfoy whispered something undoubtedly malevolent to Crabbe. Harry knew perfectly well why they were acting like this: He had named all of their fathers as Death Eaters

This is a scene at the end of OotP after Draco, Crabbe, Goyle and Theo's fathers were caught at the ministry and sent to Azkaban because they are Death Eaters. There are a few important notes about this scene.

The first, Hermione knows Theo, while Harry and Ron don't really. This means she likely knows him from the classes she takes and Harry and Ron don't — Arithmancy and/or Ancient Runes.

The second, he is sitting with other Death Eater children, but I don't think it's by choice. I mentioned in the previous quote how he isn't close to Draco and his crew. He sits with them here mostly because he doesn't have another choice. Theo doesn't seem to really have any friends, so he sits with the closest people he has to friends — kids he has known since he was young because their fathers were in the same circle.

The other note about this is that Crabbe, Goyle, and Draco are all mentioned as being threatening and malicious towards Harry because they don't like that their fathers are in Azkaban. Theo, though, Theo doesn't threaten Harry, he isn't part of their whisperings. As I mentioned above, he's likely happy his father is in Azkaban.

A pair of blank, white, shining eyes were growing larger through the gloom and a moment later the dragonish face, neck, and then skeletal body of a great, black, winged horse emerged from the darkness. It looked around at the class for a few seconds, swishing its long black tail, then bowed its head and began to tear flesh from the dead cow with its pointed fangs. A great wave of relief broke over Harry. Here at last was proof that he had not imagined these creatures, that they were real: Hagrid knew about them too. He looked eagerly at Ron, but Ron was still staring around into the trees and after a few seconds he whispered, “Why doesn’t Hagrid call again?” Most of the rest of the class were wearing expressions as confused and nervously expectant as Ron’s and were still gazing everywhere but at the horse standing feet from them. There were only two other people who seemed to be able to see them: a stringy Slytherin boy standing just behind Goyle was watching the horse eating with an expression of great distaste on his face, and Neville, whose eyes were following the swishing progress of the long black tail.

The stringy Slytherin boy mentioned here is Theo. This scene proves that:

He saw someone die

Let's explore the second one for a moment. The fact Theo can see Thestrals means he watched someone die and was old enough to comprehend what he was seeing. We also know Theo's mother is dead. So it's likely the person he watched die was his mother.

I also want to draw attention to Theo's distaste towards Thestrals. He could likely see them carrying the carriages every year since 2nd year, it's not his first time seeing them. But it doesn't stop his displeasure with their sight from showing. Which says something about him. It means he likely recalls his mother and her death whenever he looks at the Thestrals. and these are memories Theo rather not experience.

We don't know how his mother died, but I'd hazard a guess it wasn't natural. After all, wizards have long life spans, they are more durable to illness and injury, and don't usually die from accidents unless very extreme or magical. And there was no epidemic of dragonpox (a disease that does tend to kill wizards) in the time since 1980 and the books. So, she was more likely killed at some point between 1985(ish) and 1991.

“No, I don’t think so, sir. I’m Muggle-born, you see.” Harry saw Malfoy lean close to Nott and whisper something; both of them sniggered, but Slughorn showed no dismay; on the contrary, he beamed and looked from Hermione to Harry, who was sitting next to her.

First, Theo is an O student in potions since he is in the potions NEWT class, and was probably meant to be there even if Snape was the teacher.

Second, again, Theo doesn't really have friends. He sits next to Draco as the only other Slytherin in the class. Also, they share the circumstances of being sons of Death Eaters currently in Azkaban. Although both of them seem to deal with it quite differently.

Third, Theo joins Draco in making fun of Hermione's blood status, but he does not initiate it. Considering the environment he was raised in and is in, it makes sense he would make fun of it. Whether he's a blood-purist or not, he would want to keep his image considering he doesn't have many allies. Hanging out with Draco is survival, not friendship. They aren't even on a first-name basis with each other.

“Amortentia doesn’t really create love, of course. It is impossible to manufacture or imitate love. No, this will simply cause a powerful infatuation or obsession. It is probably the most dangerous and powerful potion in this room — oh yes,” he said, nodding gravely at Malfoy and Nott, both of whom were smirking skeptically. “When you have seen as much of life as I have, you will not underestimate the power of obsessive love. . . .

(HBP, page 186)

The final quote I have about Theo is from the same potions class as above. Both he and Draco are portrayed here as underestimating amortentia and its potential damage. It makes sense for their upbringing in the Wizarding World, which has no real laws or regulations regarding love potions that are seen as harmless fun more often than not.

I'll add Theo likely didn't witness a healthy romantic relationship. Considering his father is a Death Eater who is likely abusive and may or may not have killed his mother. With this as his reference to a marriage, it's clear why he'd look down on love and love potions.

Why I think Theo and Harry have potential

Okay, so now that we know who Theodore Nott is, let's talk about why I ship him with Harry.

I think Harry, in general, would get along best with a clever partner with the ability to be ruthless (Slytherins or Ron fall into this category). Because Harry isn't some golden savior; he casts unforgivables, and is very willing to poison Umbridge or Crocio Snape if he could get away with it. He needs a partner that won't be horrified by these thoughts.

Also, Theo literally never speaks on page. Even when spoken to, his reactions are silent. I think this quiet and no need to talk, the ability to be comfortable in silence, is something that would be comfortable for Harry. Harry in the books finds himself annoyed with Ron and Hermione's constant banter on occasion, so I think it fits well.

Theo would also be comfortable around Harry without a need to play a certain part. Because Harry wouldn't care about that. He would honestly rather Theo forgo the pure-blood Slytherin act.

I feel like Harry and Theo, have a good potential to understand each other. Theo lost his mother and likely experiences abuse from his father. It makes them very likely to trauma bond over their crap life and shared experience. Two out of three only ones who could see the Thestrals in the entire class.

The other thing I feel they could connect over is being lonely. Harry spent all his childhood until Hogwarts basically being on his own. Theo stayed on his own. Draco at least has his parents, he has other students he's closer to, not that he shares everything with them, but he has some support network. Theo has none. And this is something Harry knows well.

Theo, I think, wouldn't expect anything specific from Harry. He doesn't even interact with him, not to mock him, and not to idolize him, he doesn't care at all. And we know how much Harry appreciates being thought of as Harry and not as the Boy-Who-Lived. Theo would allow Harry to be himself without some mold he wants him to fit in.

The fact Theo never becomes a Death Eater, even though he was in Draco's year and his father was a Death Eater before Lucius (and in better standing than Lucius with Voldemort) is so interesting. It's somewhat surprising Theo wasn't marked. It means he didn't want to be. It means that Theo Nott didn't want to torture and kill muggleborns or blood traitors, or anyone really. And he didn't want to swear his allegiance to Voldemort. This is just a fascinating fact to me and something I enjoy considering. What life experience made him come to that conclusion? Was it just his dislike of his father that pushed him away? Could he have been another Sirius Black (Gryffindor in a Slytherin family) under slightly different circumstances? I mean, Voldemort likely wouldn't force him to become a Death Eater, but would his father? I don't know what at all went down there, but I like that potential story.

We also know he wasn't part of Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad, even though some minor Slytherins were mentioned to be part of it. He just seems to be an actually decent guy (I don't care what Cursed Child says about him, I know he's there but I avoided almost anything to do with Cursed Child so I barely know the plot).

Finally, this is a character Harry doesn't have as much drama to get over with. Yes, sometimes I want to read overcoming drama between characters before it becomes a romance, but sometimes I want something chiller than that. And Theo is a really chill, safe, Slytherin option for Harry.

Luckily for you, the watchers at this point are pretty removed from the Evo ones! There are some pretentious purists out there, as with anything, that like to bitch about people not following the original script (god knows I'm guilty of this with other stuff lol) and I've noticed bitching about this specifically becoming more popular, but I'm assuming you're coming to me about the lifer series watchers and not Evo watchers. That being said, here's Vio's Watcher guide of questionable accuracy:

The Life Series watchers are only really "canon" in Martyn's lore, with them being referenced but not explicitly canonized in the Secret Life state (the symbol on the mask is their symbol from Evo but no one else really has lore, period, so I hesitate to count this as more than an easter egg for anyone else but Martyn). From what I can tell, the Watchers retained a few things from their Evo lore:

1) The ability to move players to new worlds- In Evo, the Watchers were the ones who moved people to more updated versions of the game (the series concept was playing survival but gradually updating the game version as they went). This ability lends to the life series Watchers being the "gamemakers" and being able to put players in a new game ever season

2) Grian - at the end of his Evo series (tho notably not the Evo series in general), he was taken after jumping into the end portal by the Watchers. Based on the end credit poem being replaced with a dialouge between two of them, and a third one joining in at the end, the assumption is that Grian became a Watcher. As Grian is also the server owner for the Life Series, him being a Watcher plays well into the Watchers being the game runners. I'm not sure how canon this is in Martyn's lore or if it's still an unknown, but it is a prevailing theory that Grian's involvement isn't part of the other Watcher's plans and is to try and fuck up their shit on the inside and essentially do damage control for his friends. This is based off of the quote "He was never meant to interfere, he was onlt ever meant to watch" from Martyn's videos. However, c!Martyn, who is the perspective we see, is not omniscient and therefore there's a lot we just don't know.

3) Listeners/ why the Watchers seem to hate Martyn and also Jimmy: from what I understand from the little Evo lore I remember (this was years ago lmao), the Listeners appeared later as an antagonistic force to the Watchers, and got Martyn and Jimmy on their side. They were presented as a route to freedom vs the Watchers, but once again unreliable narration needs to be kept in mind. This is likely why the Watxhers keep fucking w Martyn specifically (and might provide an in canon reason for why Jimmy keeping dying first as well lmao) but it hasn't really be touched on beyond 1) Martyn is canonically a Listener and 2) the Watchers know he's a Listener

4) So.... what are the Watchers? - this one is, canonically, unknown and therefore the source of the aforementioned pretentious bitching. You need to keep in mind that mcyt roleplay is not structured and Evo especially didn't start out expecting deep worldbuilng. This, plus the fact that the Watchers are higher powers that different people have different opinions on, means there's going to be a lot of info that just doesn't line up, from both a meta and in canon perspective.

One theory is that they're a representation of viewers. This is at least somewhat true, imo, based on how Grian "becomes a viewer" after ending his series. This is not canon, but personally I do like this theory lol. This also carries into Secret Life, where viewers can submit tasks via the statue. However, I don't think this is canonized ever and might just be more symbolic than literal. There's also a theory that Watchers vs Listeners are a dichotomy between the bad viewers who just "watch" and demand things without "listening" to the players, while Listeners are viewers what actually "listen" to what the players want to do. However, as with everything, this is speculation based off of a 3rd person limited perspective.

5) Are they evil?- once again, depends on who you ask and what version you're talking about. According to c!Martyn in both series, yes. According to c!Grian from Martyn's lore, probably? Or at least he doesn't like this particular plan of theirs. According to Evo fans who remember them as just "plot bunny for why the version of the world keeps changing", probably not. We really don't know a ton about them and so you are free to make them as evil as you want or as neutral as you want.

This is preally much all ik about the Watchers and how they relate to the Life Series. You will notice that most of it is theories or hinted at things. The beauty of mcrp as a genre is that it's very semi-formal, and so canon is a bit wiggley. So TLDR: do whatever the fuck you want lmao. You don't need mine or anyone else's approval. It's your right to do what you want with canon, just as it's your right to bitch about it on the internet. Just don't be a dick about it and everything will be fine 👍

I must get this off my chest about ‘The Rings of Power’

TL/DR: I’m sad.

There’s a lot going on in the fandom right now, and it’s painful to watch. I have a lot of strong feelings whirling inside - anger, disappointment, fear, loneliness, fear of loneliness - as well as a general, latent sentiment of ‘Where The Fuck Is Tolkien In All This’.. So -- just a few thoughts I must get out of my system.

First of all, Amazon's communication is a raging disaster.

I am not willing to jump on the “Elves can’t have short hair” or the “Hobbits must be ethnically homogenous” bandwagon, because the way I see it, we have much bigger problems here than RandomBlackGuy cast as RandomAvariElf (honestly, if they had just bothered to give him a wig I’d be totally down for it -- dude’s got really expressive eyes, a lean, characteristic face and based on the trailer his character is a cool archer - so what’s with the hair, seriously??)

It’s not that I don’t have my own views on Tolkien’s mythology (which are unabashedly Anglo-Saxon, lol) or that I would not do certain things differently if given the chance. But here’s the deal: the fact that it’s 2022 and Amazon STILL  managed to piss off EVERY SINGLE FACET of the fandom is very telling. In the Vanity Fair article, they’re basically accusing ALL the criticising fans (many of whom, I assume, are THEMSELVES representing some kind of minority) of racism, ‘purism’ and trolling.

That’s right. Even if fan criticism has NOTHING to do with diverse casting; even if they are voicing EXTREMELY valid and SUBSTANTIAL concerns about entirely different things, Amazon’s just like, “Nope, we won’t address those. We’ll just react to that 1% of actual trolls because that’s hella convenient for the arrogant sophists that we are. Also, you’re now blocked from our Twitter page in the name of Freedom of Expression, hope you have a wonderful day.”

...I mean, if you want to CREATE hatred towards minorities, representation and diversity where there had been none, this is EXACTLY how you do it. Bond-villain level accuracy. I must congratulate.

And now I will tell you a secret, dear Amazon:

If the only way you can counter an argument is to cry ‘racist’ or ‘purist’ or ‘Raxacoricofallapatorius’ (catch the reference, lol), it means HAVING NO SUBSTANTIAL CLAIM WHATSOEVER to support your ideas. You can’t guilt-trip your way out of every discussion -- the fact that you do tells me to let go of ALL expectations I might still have that your show could be decent to watch. Period.

Why do I see it this way? After all, I haven’t seen the show, have I?

No, of course I haven’t, but the creators’ approach seems to be a very problematic one. The open desire to warp Middle-earth into something it isn’t -- a modern sociopolitical stance, or Game of Thrones Lite -- is ludicrous, and doomed to failure. I mean, you can make a modern sociopolitical stance out of a LOT of stories I would approve of, but not this one. Not the one whose author did his utmost fucking best to stay AS FAR FROM REALITY AS POSSIBLE.

One of my biggest fears about ‘The Rings of Power’ series has always been that the rights to touch Tolkien’s world would fall into unappreciating hands. Into the hands of people who, fundamentally, don’t understand what it is all about, or are willing to ignore that in favour of financial benefit.

(Again: race and ethnicity are not what I am concerned about -- I’m totally okay with PoC Elves or Dwarves. Representations like this are quite frequent in the fandom as well; and since I am not a sociopath, I’m able to understand that representations that differ from mine exist, and are just as valid. If other fans think that black Elves work, that means I’m down for it, and Amazon should be down for it, too. Just give them long hair, haha).

BUT! I really-really fear for the loss of actual STORY behind all the politics and representation that the creators aspire to deliver: as well as the ESSENCE of Arda. The otherworldly quality that makes PJ’s films, even The Hobbit trilogy ‘Tolkien-esque’ - and this quality is sorely missing from what we have seen so far.

I know, I know -- still haven’t seen the series yet. But I really strongly believe that if the story was good, if the characters were established, if Tolkien’s legacy would be respected, than Amazon would not just cry ‘racist’ as an answer to all of our concerns. They would tell us fans to wait, and they would show some semblance of humility and respect.

To sum it up, I’m sad. So very sad. I mean, this is exactly what I knew would happen, but it’s still sad, because the whole idea of the series had so much potential. Now, it feels like it’s gonna be nothing more than a billion-dollar mainstream fantasy disaster.

So yeah. I’m sad. Pass me a bottle of Black Label.

psychonauts 2 review!

I played the first few-ish (not many... I'd guesstimate under 4) hours of the original Psychonauts years ago, but found it unruly to control and never progressed further. I remember thinking the concept was neat, though, and when I heard a sequel was coming I figured I'd check it out, since it'd presumably be more polished.

The sequel is very very good. I think it is the best game I've played this year. It's also maybe the most creative game I've played... ever.

When Rift Apart came out, a lot of reviews said it was "like a playable Pixar game". Having played (and enjoyed!) Rift Apart as well, I gotta say while that may be true in image fidelity, in basically every other respect I think Psychonauts 2 comes closer. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who's ever enjoyed this kind of platformer.

More detail and possible spoilers:

I'll start with the cons, because there aren't very many:

I posted early on that I found jumping kind of unwieldy/frustrating, which is bad for a platformer. Although I got better at it as I got used to the controls, I still did run into scenarios where I was creating a thought bubble while trying to wall jump, or rolling off the edge of a platform I'd just landed on, or otherwise just finding jumping clumsy. I turned off fall damage pretty early for this reason; it was infuriating to just keep dying because I couldn't make a clumsy jump, and then respawn with increasingly limited health.

(Also, fwiw, because I know gamers were losing their damn minds about this when it was announced, turning off fall damage doesn't allow you to skip out on executing all the platforming. You just don't respawn with a health penalty if you fail. You still have to eventually time it right.)

A few hours after turning off fall damage, I turned off combat damage too. So I guess I can't really evaluate the smoothness or difficulty of combat fairly, because uh... I was immortal. This is just me as a player though -- I played large chunks of Spiderman & Miles Morales & Rift Apart on immortality mode. Boss fights simply do not spark joy for me; I want to progress a story without repeating a segment several times. I will say, in this mode, combat was fairly repetitive, mainly just psi blasting and meleeing everything. I kept thinking about turning it off, to maybe appreciate the challenge or figure out other techniques.... but I really just wanted to keep progressing the story, so I never did.

HOWEVER... there's a ton of extremely profitable games where combat is literally just "shoot", so, even then I wouldn't hold it against Psychonauts much.

I'm an idiot I guess and didn't realize levelling up skills was a separate thing from buying pins to augment the skills. So I played like a good chunk of the game with every skill at level 0 lmfao.

Easily my least favourite level is the first one, which I think is a bit unfortunate... I don't have, like, a dental phobia and I was still not really enjoying that part, and compared to how colourful and cool and imaginative the other worlds are it just seems like it starts the game off on a weird foot.

I know some purists are reading this like SO YOU PLAYED A GAME WITH NO DAMAGE AT ALL? Yep and I appreciate DoubleFine allowing me to do so. ✌🏻

And then onto the pros:

Like... everything else?

Playing Rift Apart this summer made me feel like a kid again, as a someone who grew up on cartoony platformers like Spyro and who still craves the satisfaction of first discovering you can charge that cracked wall and find an orb behind it. Psychonauts 2 had all that fun of exploring maps and finding secret, hidden locations and collectibles... on top of having the most creative and varied level design I've ever seen.

Seriously the levels were gorgeous. I was constantly spinning the camera around to take in all the little details, and there were SO MANY different levels where the gimmick would surprise and delight me. Almost every level for me was like "omg how did they think of that". Even when I was getting irritated by (for eg) the unruliness of trying to steer a giant bowling ball down a precise ramp, I was at least marvelling at the ingenuity involved.

The script was wonderful. Funny, charming, clever in its use of metaphor, and genuinely touching at times. If ever anything felt a little bit simplified, well, it's a kid-friendly game... I can't be too mad about that.

Raz is so endearing! It's very easy for the plucky young kid character to uh, become grating, but I always found Raz charming and I was rooting for him. Richard Horvitz is so good.

TBH all the characters were super lovable and funny. In a giant cast of cartoons I don't think there was a single one where I'd be like "ugh, this guy again" which is quite a feat honestly. They were all charming and well-acted and bursting with dialogue.

Even the random NPCs around the motherlobe who have their own progressing storylines via conversations... I love that detail! It was one of my favourite parts of Life is Strange: True Colours and I was delighted when I realized it was happening in this game too. It was fun to check in on some of your faves as the game progressed.

I'm pretty thorough, and I love exploring maps, and boy do these maps have a lot to explore, especially the hub areas. I STILL haven't figured out how to get everywhere in the Questionable Area, lol, or gotten every psy card, etc.

I like the music, especially the music in the quarry area that absolutely makes me feel like I am walking around Epcot. Perfect vibe. (And the Small World knock-off music in Nick's brain lmao...)

As soon as the projection started talking I was like, "this is GIR, right? This is intentionally a Zim and Gir thing?" So I felt validated by checking IMDB after lmao.

Ummm... I think that's about it. Honestly great game. I might give Psychonauts 1 another go... although I'd say there's a high chance I instead watch it on YouTube, lol.

Seemed strange at first but checked some twitters on a weird gut hunch for a couple of blocks that seemed... very oddly-timed... and they follow a shitload of Spardacest accts if not those almost exclusively. Just because they’re not out and proud about it/making art of it/etc. doesn’t mean they’re not totally for it/into it lol.

(I honestly have a modicum of respect for the out and proud Spardacest blogs — I might be repulsed but goddamn at least they tag their shit and let you know what’s up from jump street so you can avoid it.)

If you mean FFVII: I openly dislike “fandom old guard” — despite that being largely people around my age group give or take a few years — because I cannot stand gatekeeping and/or people who are like “you must enjoy this series this way or it’s wrong” and then scream and cry if you point out a hole in their theorycrafting logic. This might be a loaded question, and I know you're more pagan than witchy, but: In your opinion, how much perfection should we expect from the witches we follow? I can't watch videos that are too woo-woo and "love and light". They come off as hokey and childishly naive. I believe the magical world will kick your ass if you let it, and pretending everything magical in the universe only loves you and wants to help you...bleh. But the majority of witches on Youtube I find are like that. Lately, pt1

Pt2 I've noticed some of the witches I follow that are more practical use the word "smudge". I know the issues surrounding this, and i don't want to support racists/appropriators, yet...I already have such a hard time finding witches whose content I can enjoy watching. I have been grappling with whether I should let it slide, or if I should "cancel" them. Our society is so quick to call out anything, I can no longer tell how far you should go in your support or canceling. What are your thoughts?

I know most of my content gears more towards my religion but I am actually a witch as well! And I think what you’re asking is something a lot of other witches probably grapple with. 

Firstly, I don’t think we can ask anyone for “perfection” because none of us can ever live up to that. What I recently went through is a great example of that. As human beings we all make mistakes, we all have struggles/issues that cause us to mess up sometimes, and also some of us are genuinely unaware of why something is harmful or problematic. 

Which leads me to the whole “smudging” issue. Unfortunately the term gets thrown around so much that people truly don’t understand that it’s not the correct term to use. Tbh the only place I really see education on what the term actually means, represents, and requires is here on Tumblr. I very rarely see that discussion happening outside this site. So I really wouldn’t jump to calling those witches racist or appropriators. Instead it’s much more likely they are not aware that smudging isn’t the appropriate term to use. 

Perhaps instead of “canceling” these witches you reach out to them to educate them on what the term actually means. I know I always appreciate it when people let me know when I’ve done fucked up lol!  Its helped me grow as a person and be a better human being. I think it also sends a message of “I enjoy your presence and I know you’re better than this so i want to help you be better” 

Like I said none of us are perfect so I think it does take the support of each of us to help one another learn, grow, and be better. Which is why I don’t like the term “canceling” bc that implies theres no hope for a person. That because they made a mistake it’s over for them and there’s no chance to change or learn or be better. And that’s just not how humanity works. We ultimately learn best by fucking up. Which basically means all of us are going to end up canceled at some point. 

But with that said, we all have to do with what aligns with our values. Unfortunately yes, there’s a huge problem right now with people deciding they have the authority to judge someone elses “morality” based on THEIR OWN VALUES. But while there are issues that are VERY cut and dry, most things aren’t that easy. And I think the situation you’re in is the latter. 

Some people may feel very strongly about witches using the term “smudge” and refuse to support them. 

Others may choose to overlook it thinking it’s likely a case of ignorance especially if there are no issues with the rest of their content

And others may do what I suggested above, pointing out how smudging isn’t the appropriate term to use and then using the witch’s reaction as the deciding factor. 

I don’t necessarily think any one of those are right or wrong despite the fact that many people will say otherwise. A lot of people believe their way and reaction is always the right and moral way, but that’s human ego doing what it does best. 

I will say that my personal perference is to educate and speak out when you can, but I know that isn’t always accessible to people. And we can’t always be teachers, healers, and activitists. We can’t give our all to every problem out there. We can only do our best. 

My point (sorry for how long this got!) is that you just have to do with what feels right to you and try not to let the purists get you down.

there was a 2019 movie?

from the very first sneeze of an idea of doing a CATS movie went around being speculated in what.. 2012?? i have been against it because i knew it wouldn’t be done right. what i really wanted, really hoped for, what the fandom very honestly deserves and STILL does to this day and beyond is another honest, no dances cut, full on professionally shot video of the stage production again.

i’m still putting my hand to the cold glass and pulling my thin shawl around my shoulders as i gaze past the rain blurring the dreary world outside and sighing a tremendous, weary sigh because Hamilton is getting a full professionally-shot stage movie...... and CATS likely won’t ever.. and how cruel that is.

(not hatin on Hamilton, btw; im just old and bitter LOL i have zero hard feelings towards Hamilton and honestly good for them for getting that done, they deserve it)

so...... listen. i appreciate the thought and commitment to making a CATS movie. i think the biggest thing that busted my balls about it was the use and execution of the CGI cat people. ofc this is a big thing in a lot of opinions. but i’ve always been sitting here like....... 

there are... decades of fanart. decades of productions and photos and costume design. but the fan. art. did anyone go in and look at it? artists have been drawing these characters a wide variety of ways, but when it boils down to the anthropomorphic take on it, i thought it was pretty damn clear how good it could look. i feel like they should have been diggin in the CATS art trenches all this time, all these years, and really taken all these artistic interpretations very seriously to heart. 

it felt like a slap in the face when they overhauled nearly everyone’s design/look to the point where i don’t even know who i’m looking at. and listen, i’m here for redesigns, don’t get me wrong. i dug Jason Derulo’s Tugger design. i dug Idris Elba’s Macavity base idea because he was made a shorthair and clearly all source material says otherwise? and where’s the ginger, mate?? 

(NOTE: in the b’way revival the new Macavity costume is easily 99% black in contrast to the original design in which the costume was 95% red and orange. stark difference. “Macavity’s a ginger cat” contradicts the revival costume a bit since, again, it’s largely black. so in its defense, the costume’s red/orange accents are well placed and the black pays more tribute to the “very tall and thin” aspect he’s supposed to have. (the old costume was wild and hairy, it kinda puffed him out a bit, esp with the much fuller and taller wig.) the revival wig is more on par with main wigs, and it has that coppery color, the makeup is simplistic (as it needs to be added on to Plato) and the color use FOR base Plato brings out the red and etc etc etc. i like the revival costume; it didn’t go overboard on the reds and oranges, it was sleek and powerful, and oh my god you’ve got fingergless gloves with fucking fringe there is a MANE wiht FRINGE who designed that bc i gotta kiss em and offer a piece of my heart and soul)

everything felt muddled, disorganized, foreign, and god why did we do Jennyanydots that why please why are the cockroaches people please are you all ok in production? blink twice if you need help

oh yeah and the fat jokes. i think we were supposed to be getting over that but ok

and speaking of fuckin Skimbleshanks you have no idea how much of my shit i lost when he started the tap number. i was over the MOON. GOOD shit, FUCK yeah, GO OFF and it was brilliant, absolutely beautiful

ALSO when i heard Judi Dench was gonna be in it i was really hopeful she’d finally play Grizabella. what a fucking treat that would’ve been. she was set to debut the role in the West End, then she tore her Achilles, so Elaine Page replaced her and the rest was history. i’ve really wanted to hear/see her Grizabella. :(

(and briefly on the topic of Grizabella i’m kinda not here for the trend of younger actresses in the role just hhhhhhhh kinda takes away and misplaces her whole vibe and story imo)

there were a lot of super questionable decisions across the board and all that has already been gone over by so many people a dozen billion times. on one hand, i’m glad CATS got some exposure. on the other, :( not like this

however, on a very good note (other than skimbleshanks bless him): let me tell you how EXCITED i was that they used the original Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer arrangement. what a fucking pleasant surprise. HELL yeah. i LOVE that arrangement and i’m tickled to pieces that it was chosen.  good shit. good shit.

tbh as Serious and Bruh Calm Down this might all sound, it’s honestly no skin off my teeth. it’s a frustration, sure. i’m so very tired.  i’m disappointed. i didn’t have any specific expectations about it, just a lot of hopes. maybe too many hopes.

being a longtime CATS fan i know as well or even better than other people what a fucking dumpster fire the show is LMAO it’s wild and it’s ridiculous and god it doesn’t make any sense, it has a plot and it has no plot and everything about it is so horny and it’s the greatest fucking thing to ever happen to me

i obviously have a lot of feelings and history with CATS, and 2019 did not “ruin” anything for me, it didn’t “taint” anything about it, despite everything i’ve complained about i don’t consider myself a purist. (ok. except about the revival choreography. some things are more sacred than the vatican.)

i don’t dig 2019 as a whole. i don’t want to completely disregard it. there are bits and pieces i did like and that i can appreciate. i wish it wasn’t done that way. i just wish we had gotten a true blue professionally shot, no dances cut, honest portrayal of the stage production. 

but hey it is what it is. at the bottom of it all i’m just glad there are new people coming in and taking a look around. it’s nice to see a resurgence of the fandom. it feels really good to see more people here and loving it. i missed CATS and the CATS community. it feels so good to be home.

I finished Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Long story short, I loved it!! So much!! And there’s alot I wanna rant about so here we are. A review of sorts?? Major spoilers ahead! 

And if y’all think you’re immune to spoilers because you played the original FF7, YOU ARE NOT. Lots of new stuff here....just warning y’all.

Although! I did find this great looking walkthrough playlist if anyone’s interested and can’t play the thing themselves? Idk how complete it is with the details, but from a glance it looks nice! 

- FIRST OF ALL the music in it all is amazing!!! From the menu song all throughout, I got Emotional. All the rehashings of Aerith’s theme?? Tifa’s theme?? The FF7 main theme here are there?? AMAZING!!!! I need to find a tracklist or something there are so many versions of the songs specific to the scenes they played in and I die??? Man it is Good. 

- On the music front, I really enjoyed the Jukebox feature! So they could add in old classic songs that story-wise couldn’t appear yet...good nostalgia there. 

- Lil disclaimer, I played the original FF7 fairly recently, on Steam. HOWEVER. I played Crisis Core years ago, and watched Advent Children, etc. And Final Fantasy music has been a staple homework playlist for me for ages now.... So yes I’m new to the whole FF7 original story. But not new in how most people are...it’s a weird situation lol. Like I knew the general FF7 story for awhile but just recently filled the details....

- The gameplay is awesome!! I wasn’t great at it, but...tbh it felt like mechanics combo of the original FF7, FF15, annnnd Kingdom Hearts :D Also appreciated it PAUSED when you picked out commands lol. Loved upgrading weapons. Loved working with materia. I wish there were like...ways to save a materia set so you could easily switch over when your characters were switched out though X’’’’D 

- Biggs is Aro/Ace

- Cloud is VERY Aro/Ace

- Tifa might be Ace

- I decided long ago (in my Crisis Core phase) that Sephiroth is Aro/Ace. There’s nothing to “prove it” in this game but I’m holding to it. I have claimed these characters askjdhuiwdhguerhgr

- Side note, slightly related, but I love how the relationships shone in this remake?? Lots of casual, comfortable touch with Tifa and Cloud (in which Cloud seems in general pretty touch averse due likely to Trauma) in a “we’ve known each other our whole lives” way and gosh I love them. Aerith with Cloud is adorable. Barret!!! Was characterized SO WELL here, and I love him way more than I ever did!! Barret and Tifa interactions as well were so heartfelt and wonderful aaaaaa how good

- Like...Barret haaaates Cloud in the beginning. But somewhere along the way he adopts Cloud instead and ain’t that fantastic?? He just can’t contain how much he cares about others and especially his daughter and goSH I love him. 

- Aerith!! I love her!! She gave such a vibe that she knows more than she says, but is still so cute and sweet and sassy I LOVE!!!! Also that scene in the train graveyard with baby Aerith ;;~;;

I feel some stuff was lost in translation while playing FF7 original, and it felt alot more put together, character-wise, here. I feel like some of that was learned from FF15 and its success with character relationships?? It was Good. 

_ I rambled about this before, but Wall Market was every bit as embarrassing as you would think. *covers face*

- Also I thought it was interesting how they handled who was in your party when! A little annoying sometimes though, switching materia around!!! DX I also really wanted to actually PLAY Red XIII/Nanaki....but sure make him an NPC, whatever. (I am grateful he healed me often.)

- *me when Nanaki shows up* AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! THERE HE IS!!!!!!! (sidenote, in the original, I didn’t wanna call him by his experiment name. He’s the only character I changed the name of. The name I picked? Ignis. :”D )

- The motorcycle segments were ANNOYING AS HECK, especially that last one in escaping the Shinra building DX The game forced your camera to focus on the boss and that made the controls VERY ANNOYING. Cool to watch tho.

- I actually almost completed the game boss fight chain early last night!! But RIGHT when I got to Sephiroth, the family demanded I get off the TV for their use D: all that progress....I had to redo ALOT. DX 

- STILL the fights were VERY cool! Reminded me of KHII end alot actually, jumping around on broken floating buildings and whatnot?? Also the creature looked like a HUGE DARKSIDE heartless lol

- There’s actually alot in this remake that gives alot of a KH feel to me?? Nomura I see you....

- *screeching the One Winged Angel theme still not knowing the words* 

- I LOVED how they showed scenes of the future in the end?? Probably ripped from Advent Children, but?? The characters actually seeing that?? Going “this CAN’T be our future!!” Yo. Also it’s implied it might not HAPPEN now going against destiny and all. I know alot of people are pissed but I am EXCITED. I’m all for a fix-it fic game thank YOU. 

- Speaking of fix-it: ZACK. ZAAAAAACK!!!!!! It’s implied he’s alive in one reality so WHERE IS HE??????? I’m so curious about this new story. I’m gonna eat up theories. I want!! To see!! My baby boy!!!!!! to be Fair (haha) I spoiled myself knowing he was in the game but I didn’t know WHEN!!!

- This is terrible, but I love how much they expressed how NOT OK Cloud is. His mental state is awful, but boi won’t talk about it. 

- Like I know it’s in the original, but it comes up ALOT more in the remake, and the flashbacks/brain short out moments are more obvious in HD for sure. Plus Cloud’s eyes seem more green there, which is a great touch!! Also the incredible FORESHADOWING it brought. Love it. Please someone help this idiot with his headaches....

- I did get annoyed with the whole scene in Hojo’s lab. Cloud’s walking like a zombie toward where Jenova is, saying CONCERNING things, and NO ONE reaches out until he outright collapses? We all just gonna stand back and watch?? Sure ok. 

- Hojo is absolutely disgusting and horrifying and exactly how I imagined him, creators did great job.

- Also why does no one use curaga in these character death scenes???? Potion? Anything????Hello??????

- I was so relieved Wedge (and one of his 3 cats) got to live, and then devastated when they chucked him out a window last minute ;;A;; still. I didn’t see a body. Maybe he’s ok.....*sobs*

- I WAS NOT EXPECTING BIGGS TO BE SEEN IN RECOVERY THO YEEEEESSSSS (I love ANY sign that they DID manage to change the future a little...I thought he was dead!!) Fun fact! The one part I legitimately started crying was when Biggs “died”! Hhhhhhhhhh

- Those dang dementors huh? X’’’D Whispers of fate...there to make sure the story goes according to the original game basically. Does that make the whispers the purist fans of FF7? ...please don’t kill me for that comment sidfiushguigerha

- I just wanna say making a game ABOUT making a remake (that is different from the original) and the struggles in that is VERY meta and so clever and delightful and I LOVE IT. I really wanna see what happens next....

All in all I spent 52 hours on this game. WAY more than I expected for only covering Midgar. And I ENJOYED it!! Some parts felt like the story was being dragged/padded, but most of the time I didn’t care. Also there’s even more to do?? Apparently I missed some scenes....I don’t have time for now, but maybe someday. Or maybe I’ll just look them up ;;7;;

President Donald Trump endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday, speaking in Dallas, Texas at the National Rifle Association conference.

“Full endorsement for this man — Ted Cruz,” Trump said at the beginning of his speech.

Cruz waved at Trump from the crowd, which cheered and shouted “Cruuuuz.”

“Boy that was very rousing, that’s a good sign,” Trump continued.

Trump urged everyone in the audience to vote in the midterm elections and warned them not to be complacent.

“You watch how well we do in ’18, you watch,” Trump said. “Get out and vote. Don’t be complacent.”

Ted would have been an excellent president as well, but it is unlikely that he could have withstood the flak as well as President Trump has been able. And Trump has proven that he is able to get out of the rigid political boxes that the country has been grappling with for decades.

I hope that Ted will eventually accept a SCOTUS seat because there are some potential successors out there who might be a better fit for president in the era of scorched earth politics (Tom Cotton, hello!!) and Cruz is one of the few people in the world who has the intellect and determination to be as successful a jurist as Trump has been a president.

Cruz is a fantastic Constitutional Conservative but I voted for Trump because of exactly what you said. Most of all, I'd like to see these good conservatives support Trump 100%. Mark Levin is a pretty good example. The thing I disagree with Mark about is the NAFTA deal.. What happened is with clinton starting it, then bush/obama carrying it fwd, our country was gutted into a series of ghost towns where mfgring left. The country was effed so far over that we needed Trump to fight fire with fire. Also, could anyone have won PA/MI/OH like trump - hillary's "blue wall"? The answer is NO.. because to win those, Trump has to take care of the Union types(typically dems), meaning pulling back the wreckage caused by NAFTA - this typically goes against what conservatives are saying about how free trade should be. As a joke we created ourselves in the game. Legitimately, we made ourselves in the game. I made myself a human despite the fact I find humans boring, she’s a priest because for some reason a priest is usually my first pick when joining an MMO, and the RP profile honestly has my name on it. (If you find me on Wrymrest Accord, hollaback.)

Now, I think the Loremaster achievement is something everyone should work on at some point, whether you’re new or old to the game, so you can actually enjoy it (which is why Draenor and Legion flight is locked behind their respective Loremaster segments but boy howdy you’ll never catch me doing WoD again). I originally wanted my draenei to get Outland Loremaster for obvious reasons, but.... he out-leveled it. Even though I really wanted to try tanking in the Cataclysm dungeons (80-85), he was too high level for those “weaken the mob and then use this item” types of quests (70). I even stripped him naked and he was too strong. My boy Jaelkanaaz is ripped, son.

Instead, I decided that my human priest was going to do Loremaster now. She has four or five moves that do any sort of damage and I will also level lock her when she reaches the max level of the expansion she’s working on. Perfect for the aforementioned types of quests. So she’s going to be in Outland for quite some time. Vanilla/BC purists, listen now, I’m sure The Burning Crusade expansion was good at its time, but the realm of Outland is so fricking boring and monotonous that I cry knowing that the extension of myself has to go through it again for an achievement.

Non-WoWers, at level 58-60, you start in Hellfire Peninsula, the lowest level zone of Outland. Look up images. Everything is spread so far out and there’s no foliage; it’s just red sand, fucked up beasts, the remnants of buildings, and a path of draenei bones leading up from a broken fortress to the portal you jumped through. People usually just dungeon their way from 60 to 70, although there are some people who actually do the quests because they enjoy zone leveling. Or they’re like me and they’re getting achievements.

As I’m flying to my next god-awfully boring location, I accidentally fly over a Horde encampment. An NPC shoots me and this flags me for PvP. I just think, y’know, no one’s really around here anyway and this flag will disappear in five minutes, I’ll be okay.

Not what happened.

There was a blood elf paladin. I still remember his name. I remember he was in the low 60s like me. He was in that camp doing quests. He had seen me fly over and get flagged. He knew I was an easy target. He flew after me and waited for me to land and proceeded to stun and whup my ass like a true pro. In panic I hit him back but I tried to type things like /wait and /no and kept spelling it wrong in my adrenaline rush from getting caught off-guard and those never made it into the chat. Not that it would’ve mattered anyway, I’m sure he just wanted an easy kill. I tried to run, knew that would never work, then tried to stand my ground. The dude’s got his shields on. Again, I’ve got five moves that might do something if I was actually into PvP, otherwise I’m healing myself throughout the fight. Knowing it’s futile, I quickly accept death and end up at the graveyard about a good half-minute’s run away and go back to my body hoping he’s not camping me.

During this auto-run back to what I assumed is my freshly tea-bagged body, I hop into the group chat and say “Deco, avenge me, this belf kicked my ass lol” not thinking she’d actually hop on and try to find him. I know now that no one is allowed to annihilate me, even if it had been a fair fight. She gets on her most powerful character, her huntress, and I show her where I got my ass beat. I hear her tell her husband, “Hey honey, someone killed Drac, you wanna go kill them?”

I tell her that I had flown over the Horde camp nearby and I go over to check... The paladin is still there, doing his quests. I honestly did not think he’d still be there, I was sure that he’d run off somewhere else to claim himself undefeated. I saw him turn, and he most likely sees the flapping wing of my dragon so obviously there behind a rock. Silly priest, too chicken to fight again amongst these higher level NPCs who will one-shot her. As soon as Deco spots him, his flag wears off and he flies away to do his quest. Deco stalks him there and uses Shadowmeld, her racial move that allows her to become untraceable and blend in.

She gives me instructions to act like I’m doing the same quest that he’s doing and to keep my flag on. I’m basically the bait. I’m turned about 90 degrees from this guy, killing mobs with my PvP on, and he runs up to me to immediately turn his flag on....

Fthwp!

Deco kills him in one shot. I do /cry and /sorry but he’s probably already astral walking back to his body from wherever the Horde’s grave is. I run around still killing mobs. Deco wants to camp him. He spawns in. Fthwp! Downs him again. The third time, he tries to mount up and take off. Fthwp! 

By this point it’s just funny but I also feel so bad that he was outmatched and we baited him like this. She tries to make me feel better by going off saying that you don’t attack a priest unless they attack first. I mean, sure, I fought back, and none of my pleas of mercy made it through chat, but she was still mad that someone just waltzed on up and killed her friend without honorable permission.

“He’s going to learn his lesson! He’ll have to get Respawn Sickness if he wants to escape me!” (Translation: He’ll have to choose to spawn at the graveyard instead of near his body, but he’ll spend the next ten minutes at half stats and half broken armor.)

Deco’s husband arrives. He’s a Demon Hunter who looks like he just farmed the Nargacuga from Monster Hunter several hundred times and finally got the full tier set. I’ve got the PvP Couple™ on their level 110 night elves protecting my tiny human priest who has to suffer through Outland for about the third time in her gaming life. 

The paladin had followed me to my quest location a few “miles” away when I thought that enough had been enough. Clearly he still wanted some more, or he just wanted to try and talk. (Logically it would be the latter since he came up on his mount about five feet from the three of us.) Now, I don’t know who hit him first. He targeted Deco, probably to do a /rude gesture to her, and I saw both a shot and a glaive fly at him and he died again. I do /sorry and /cry again and threw in a /mourn for good measure. I know it looks sarcastic to most people, but I had mixed feelings. I don’t like to PvP and this was just plain unfair that two 110s ganged up on him, but it was also unfair that he was using his full hotbar to take me out when I literally have five moves that do minimal damage which only exist to get me through quests. 

Deco notices which guild he’s from and insults them because she knows them as a bunch of jerks and scrubs who think they’re hot shit. I forget who they are but it’s not important to me. Sounds like a PvP guild. The paladin’s body then turns to bones. That’s the sign that he had chosen to spawn at the grave with the Sickness. I move on with my life and Deco and her hubby take me to Blackwing for a mog run.

Dear Paraliser from whichever realm, probably WrA; I’m sorry it turned out like that, but I’m not a PvPer and we found it plain rude that you’d go for an easy kill like that. Lok’tar is not worth it if it was dishonorable. But I still wish you luck and fun on your adventures because, hell, it’s only a video game! With apologies and prayer, Dracannia.

P.S. Maybe I’ll catch you on my main and you can kick my ass fair and square.

I... I actually really loved it!  Maybe a smidge disappointed we didn’t get a longer lightsaber battle but then, this was never really about that was it?  The time for revenge and grudge matches is past, it’s time for hope and new beginnings.

Think they told a much more meaningful story this way.
