man I just !!!!!!!! ADORE comics they're a whole pain in the ass to make and I curse my way through the process 90% of the time but there was really no other way for me to tell stories like there was really no other path nothing makes me as happy as a well crafted comic not even good animation there's no better format than comics for me
#im not saying they're the best format objectively I'm saying a good comic sends me into outer space always#and the range is so wide because anyone and everyone can write a comic#i don't remember who it was but a mangaka for sure#that said they write comics because they're not good enough at drawing for illustration work#and not good enough at writing for writing a book#was it the szs author in kakushigoto? maybe?#but that's TRUE the comic format is forgiving more than most others when telling a story#because a lot of the times people will just breeze through them without giving the craft too much thought#so anyone can make a decent comic which meand that anyone Does#and that means in turn that sometimes you forget that some people#some people are GOOD at comics#they're EXCELLENT at comics#and then you read a very very VERY good comic#I#I read a very very VERY good comic#and suddenly I'm like this is the only format ever#because it's true you don't need to be good at much to write a comic but an exceptional comic artist has to be#SO GOOD#at composition and simplification and understanding the medium they're using#comics give you so much freedom to do what you want which means you can actually fuck it up extremely easily#I don't know how to explain it any better but comics are insane to me#and through my life I've always wanted to tell stories and to tell you the truth I'm way better at writing than i am at drawing#it comes easier to me the process just goes smoother#so i thought maybe i should write a book instead so many times#but no way man no way#there was no way I was ever not gonna try making comics even if i have to suffer my way through them#i love comics SO MUCH#bro#so damn much

Jesper with s/o who really knows how to kick ass (aka sis was trained by someone)
Jesper with a Trained S/O
a/n - I love the pairing of Jesper and the pet name honey too much aaah. Also this was written over two nights when I was half asleep so forgive me if it isn't top notch xoxo 💗💝
Warnings: fighting, poison, bruises/cuts but no real mentions of blood or anything
Tumblr media
so
Kaz obviously employed you because of how amazing you are at any type of combat
but when asked the specific reason, he had only responded with a cryptic answer that gave the Crows nothing
"They're an asset to the team. Just as all of you are."
you would train at extremely early hours of the morning, often seen jogging back up the stairs to your room drenched in sweat right when others first awoke
but no one knew what you were actually doing
until Inej caught you in the training room in the Slat, practically beating a punching bag
the funny thing was, you didn't look as though you were a street fighter, one who had developed their own adapted technique that would get them by in a scrap
your punches were calculated, muscles flexing in just the right way and stature perfect
it was the ideal stance for a real fight in a ring
she didn't say anything and instead decided to get up just a little earlier each day in order to observe you
she was caught when she let the door creak accidentally, but instead of kicking her out of the room you only offered to leave so she could use it
she refused and said she'd rather watch you
and she did from then on, you having no protest or apparent problem with it
sometimes, you'd go up against Inej and circle each other warily, not daring to underestimate the other
you had only been on a few low level heists with the Crows at that point, Kaz mercifully easing you into the work
but it was noticed by Nina that whenever it was necessary to run and hide, you could sprint with full stamina and hardly break a sweat unless it was done for a long amount of time
she also noticed your heart rate barely raised
she brought it up once
"Ugh, (Y/N), I'm so jealous, you literally must be super-human, how are you so energised?"
this was said through panting breaths as she bent to rest her hands on her knees, much like the others were doing
this meant in turn it wasn't really registered by anyone
only you
you didn't really mind people knowing you were trained in combat, but didn't flaunt it or let anyone know without them finding out
you would act casually when found out, downplaying your skills
everything was a threat in the Barrel, and saying one wrong thing near one wrong person could cost you your head
you hadn't stiffened when Nina said that, only nodding and grinning, leaning against the wall with your hands in your pockets yet not saying anything verbally
you knew how to play the game and in order to do that, you had to let them subconsciously dismiss the very idea itself
Albert Einstein iq I'm telling you
psychology at its very core
you know
so
it's all forgotten until they see your skills put to use on a heist
if you've watched now you see me 2 and watched the spectacular card sequence, the next part is basically that
your tactful hand at cards could beat Kaz Brekker himself
on the heist, you know one of Kaz's sacred backup plans
only one, mind you
so, it's like the card sequence
you're all going in as guests but you and Kaz will shoot the card with the information between you and your separate searches
"Hands the other way, ma'am."
Your hands flew the opposite way, palms now facing the guard as the card was quickly flipped between your fingers, and with a single, efficient flick of the wrist Kaz had it in his possession.
"Alright, on your way you go."
Jesper had only seen because he was stationed behind you, otherwise he never would have known it was so seamless
Nina told them later that kind of thing seemed to be a regular occurrence as your heart rate had been completely average
showing how confident you are, go bestie
it was true
you and Kaz had trained for that heist often however barely for any length of time at all
the best part for you was that you had been checking how noticeable it was and flipping the card back and forth between you in meetings
Jesper's eyes had widened comically when he observed the whole thing and his jaw dropped
you laughed as you stepped past and kissed his jaw, making it close promptly as he chased after you, desperate for answers
your cards can also be poisoned
and in another heist they doubted you
because they had seen you help pull something off but not use any as a weapon
you were motioned by Kaz to appear innocent until another signal was given, one of which only you and Inej had been paying attention to and so understood
but after you hissed at Jesper out of the corner of your mouth, he stayed subdued too
you remained eerily silent as they pushed you against the wall and searched your pockets
the cards were brought out and ridiculed, even if you had cleverly concealed knives, now you knew how you would kill these men
after the go ahead was given, you burst into action, swooping downward and catching the man holding you off guard
you collected the cards and grinned as you stepped back, now the front most Crow in your little pyramid formation at the end of the street
"And what are they gonna do?"
A malicious glint appeared in your eye as Jesper tapped your shoulder, thinking you had backed yourself into a corner here.
but then, your hand flew out and struck one clean in the eye, making them wail and drop to their knees as you flung another card, swiping a man's cheek
they did not fall until a minute later, that minute consisting of you whipping cards at them and Jesper tugging on your sleeve
he'd do that a lot, before he knew of your training and maybe after too
it wasn't that he thought you couldn't handle yourself, just that he wanted to protect you in any way possible
so pulling you behind him was a knee jerk reaction, desiring to save his loved one from any possible threat or danger
he would do anything for you, let a bullet pierce his chest, a dagger land in his throat, as long as you emerged okay
it was only later, when you got Kaz to pick up the cards, saying it would be easier to wash them with a cloth than learn how to balance the slightly differing weight of a new pack
you made Kaz do it because he had leather protection and knew of the poison darkening the edges of the cards to an inky black
they were kept in a special and specific packet so there was no possible way of you being hurt unless you were completely careless
that was completely unable to happen because you were wary enough to know what to do and what not to
but Jesper still insisted you left them in his coat after he found out, wanting you to be totally risk free
"What if you're not with me? How will I use my weapons?"
"Well, my darling, that will not be the case," he paused to snicker at his unintentional joke about the container then continued, "because Kaz will absolutely keep us together at all times."
You hummed thoughtfully, "How do you know that?"
There was an immediate answer, no moment of hesitation from your sharpshooter, "He simply can't handle how fantastically amazing I am on his own, knowing I am far superior and so will continue to pair us together to avoid having to face that foe."
"Jes, honey, he could partner you with Inej or Nina or Matthias, you know that, right?"
He was stumped and his mouth opened before closing once more.
the cards were still not handed back though
don't worry, new ones were purchased after Jesper insisted on 'clinging' to the other pack like a lifeline, according to Kaz
he did find out about this after you saved his ass in a fight with them
he was so mad, not that you'd defied him but that you had put yourself in danger with the cards
but after Inej pointed out he had to trust you at some moment in time, he softened
because how could you think he didn't trust you?
he didn't ever want you to have to answer that question and set about trying to rectify the situation
you received breakfast in bed and apology cuddles
"I trust you."
It was the mantra he had been repeating for days and you smiled as your hand came to rest upon his jawline.
"I know, darling. I know."
You were met with a soft kiss to your collarbone as his head dipped to fall into the crook of your neck, wrapping his arms around your waist in a tight but gentle hug.
He hummed before continuing, "Just wanted to make sure, honey."
the cards were left wordlessly on your bedside table, drawing a small sated smile from your lips
after he came to terms with the fact that you were a Dreg, a Crow, someone who would be targeted because you were entwined with him, he became just a little overprotective
not that you minded
just reassuring him often you were okay and he was too
after Wylan came along, you politely requested to know if he could make some kind of thing that would make the cards easier to collect
he came up with the idea of a magnetic substance that could be brushed over the centre of the cards, meaning if you kept one in your hand and waved it over the others, there would be no time delay in which you would have to pick them up
again
the added weight, even such a small increment, affected the momentum needed and angle necessary
for days, you were flinging your cards at a wall, barely stopping to eat, wanting to be useful
Jesper dragged you back to bed several times in the early mornings with coaxing syllables and sweet words, promises on how you would get it right tomorrow
"Sweetheart, just come back to bed. Wait a few hours and try again. You're so close to getting this. I just know it."
As you wrapped yourself in the comforter his hand came to stroke your cheek, "There you go, see, you were looking half asleep on your feet, doing yourself no good anyway, lovely. Or those cards."
when witnessing your physical combat skills, Jesper would let a surprised chuckle fall, not fully in control of himself
watching you flip an enemy who had underestimated you over your shoulder never got old
neither did seeing your boot swivel slightly on their chest as you proved just how skilled you were
awww such pure and innocent love
"Don't think I won't beat you in a fight again, Lion. Or there won't be another opportunity for you to."
"That's my partner!"
"Alright Jes, bit much but thanks for hyping me up."
Just as you turned and both of you were about to walk away, a cold and clammy hand clamped over your ankle and you instantaneously recoiled.
Then, before Jesper or the Dime Lion knew what was happening, your fist connected with his stomach, hand coming up to cover your false and exaggerated yawn.
"So cool." Was whispered from your sharpshooter as you stalked off, boots clicking on the gravel pavement.
he had forced you into a chair, begging you to let him take care of your now bruising knuckles and you begrudgingly agreed
"Wasn't so bad, huh?"
"Don't push it." Was the joking response as his arm slung over your waist, and his thumbs brushed over the bandage he had applied so carefully as his hand covered the one you had let hang at your hip.
"Wouldn't dream of it, darling. Don't have the foggiest why you would assume such of me."
if you ever couldn't handle the entire situation and obtained an injury, Jesper would stay by your side
when a minor one, like a small gash on your forehead appeared, he would insist on personally caring for it
and if major, he would hold your hand, allowing you to squeeze it as hard as you wanted when the pain became too much
the same went for the other way round, you giggling at bandages wrapped all around his head like a bandana
but only after you knew he was alright
if tears filled your eyes, caused by relief, his thumb would come up to brush them away and slightly pull the corners of your mouth into a weak and wavering smile
"I'm alright. I'm okay, honey, you just remember that."
the both of you would press gentle goodnight kisses to each others foreheads or lips, forgetting a bruise or cut
this would end in frantic apologies and inevitable laughter when you kept speaking over one another
basically, Jesper thinks you're so badass, amazing and fantastic, reminding you just how highly he regards you everyday
you will protect him and he will protect you, no matter what

Sonic Villains: Sweet or Shite? - Part 14: SCOURGE
............
............
......Huh?
Tumblr media
Oh, hello there! My name's Lutrudis, pleased to meet you. Judging from that look of surprise on your face however, it's evident that you weren't looking for ME per say... What's that? You want to know what this is? Right, of course, my apologies.
Well, this is a mini-series belonging to... ahem, my creator, in which he goes into slightly more detail about his thoughts on the villains in Sonic's history, and why he thinks they either work well, or fall flat (or somewhere in-between). Usually he gives his stance on their designs, their personalities, and what they had to show for themselves in the game(s) they featured in. He also stresses that these are just his own personal thoughts, and that whether you agree or disagree, you're free to share your own thoughts and opinions.
Unfortunately, as you may have gathered, it seems he's a bit occupied for today, and is thus unable to do a review... is what I WOULD be saying if he didn't let me cover for him! That's right boys and girls, I'll be filling in for him today, by doing a little review of my own! Please forgive me if I prattle on for extended periods, but I sincerely hope my efforts in assessing the Wrong'un of the Week are of the utmost quality. Truth be told, it's kind of nerve-wracking, but I'm happy to give it my all for you guys. ❤️
So then, let's carry on with the show, shall we? Welcome to a new edition of Sweet or... Sour. Welcome to Sweet or Sour. Yes indeed, heh heh... (Is the creator's language normally this gratuitous? I hope Cream hasn't seen his posts...)
Anyhow, for today's review... well, this is quite interesting. Normally the creator prefers to keep his reviews focused on game-centric villains, but I guess he made an exception with this one. Today, we'll be directing our attention to a notorious copycat of our blue hero in the Archie continuity, and legendary connoisseur of 70's fashion: Scourge the Hedgehog.
Tumblr media
The Gist: Once upon a time, in the land of comics, there was a world known by all as Mobius. But there was also a parallel dimension called Anti-Mobius, or as it would later become known as, Moebius... one E makes all the difference, apparently. Anyway, in this dimension, everyone and everything that existed in Mobius had an identical equivalent in Anti-Mobius, but things operated a bit differently, in the sense that they were largely the opposite of what we were familiar with.
Putting aside the rather disturbing implication that this world might not have had any real will or independence if it existed purely to do the opposite of what Mobius did, this meant that it had a Sonic the Hedgehog of its very own, as well as a father to that Sonic. Sadly though, this Sonic's father was not that kind to him. In fact, he was said to be a rather poor excuse for a father, as evidenced by how he didn't give his son enough attention, and... oh, that's it.
How awful.
Tumblr media
I'd say his choice of attire is the real crime presented here.
Anti-Mobius in its original form experienced a period of Great Peace, but alas, it was not to last. It soon became a shadow of its former glory, which seemed prophetic in hindsight, as it was by this time that this world's Sonic the Hedgehog - Evil Sonic - murdered his own father in cold blood, and then threw his world's incarnation of King Maximilian Acorn into the Zone of Silence. He quickly became a dictator to the people of Anti-Mobius, with his only immediate opposition coming in the form of the kindhearted counterpart to Dr. Ivo Robotnik... or should that be Dr. Julian Robotnik, in this continuity...? Hmm, I suppose it doesn't matter anymore...
Naturally, the laws of the universe saw fit to correct this wrong. Just as water is wet, and fire is hot, Sonic gives evildoers a right kicking. And lo and behold, our magnificent hero did eventually meet his evil duplicate. The two were evenly matched in speed, but the good-natured Sonic triumphed regardless, possibly because he had more wittiness on his person.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Quality banter.
Evil Sonic later brought along the rest of his gang to aid him, who predictably mirrored Sonic's own band of Freedom Fighters. They were just as much of a match for our heroes, which is a polite way of saying they weren't. You really shouldn't expect anything exquisite when they looked like this.
Tumblr media
Maybe you should call your group something else then...
These parlor games went on for a while, with the status quo never truly changing. But then, after one final showdown with Sonic, the evil Robotnik of Mobius kicked the bucket, which among other things, inspired ANOTHER Robotnik to fill the void. This Robo-Robotnik took Evil Sonic along with him to commit many acts of dastardly intent, an act of generosity that proved to be tragically undermined by Evil Sonic getting caught and trapped by different people time and time again, to the point where even his old gang had long replaced him with a new leader. He did go on to escape the grasp of one Zonic the Zone Cop... only to later get arrested again by the same guy. So far, so adorably incompetent, right?
Still, he did bust out once more, and he proceeded to turn the overall universe into a glorified soap drama by pulling the moves on numerous ladies in Mobius, which in true Evil Sonic style, achieved precisely nothing of merit. Even after he briefly teamed up with Rouge the Bat, his luck persisted in not manifesting. But things were about to get even worse... for us. On a meta level, if you know what I mean.
After one final botched attempt at pointless thievery, with the Master Emerald being the prime target in this particular case, Evil Sonic's attempt to gain himself a super form was halted midway with great force by none other than Locke, the notorious father and attempted microwave murderer of Knuckles the Echidna. Rather than kill him however, all this did was change his fur to green, and leave him with some hardcore scars.
He promptly renamed himself Scourge. Because he's a real SCOURGE to good ideas, har har.
Tumblr media
New kid in town, do not steal.
With his first act of villainy as a new man tattering to pieces due to foolishly invoking the wrath of Shadow the Hedgehog, he soon crossed paths with Dr. Finitevus, an albino echidna who otherwise looked exactly like Knuckles (good heavens, how many of these can one muster?), and spent some time on his side by aiding a new gang of lovely gentlemen called the Destructix. Together, these functioning psychopaths committed more mindless evil.
He also managed to swoon over Fiona Fox to his side, a miraculous modicum of success considering you need some sort of charm to be able to do that, of which Scourge has shown nil. I'm hardly an expert on dishing out romantic advice, but I'm willing to bet there's plenty of superior fish in the sea, Fiona...
Tumblr media
How about “Oh my god, did I seriously die to THESE losers?”
Eventually, Scourge and Fiona broke away from Finitevus' allegiance after the deadly and boring Enerjak was unleashed on Mobius. He returned to Anti-Mobius, and it turned out that any repairs made since the last time he was king didn't amount to anything substantial, because he went and conquered the entire land all over again. Rechristening his old gang as the Suppression Squad, he continued Being Evil™ some more, until the aforementioned Suppression Squad betrayed him for constantly being abhorrent to them, which led to him being stuck with Rosy the Rascal for a while, yet another shameful derivative of a close friend.
In his last days, at long last, he finally achieved a super form with the power of an Anarchy Beryl... only to get soundly thrashed once again, get thrown in prison, and then just when it seemed he'd be back in business, he got wiped out by the Genesis Wave. Tch, Mondays, am I right?
As you can tell from my words alone, let alone in an extremely abridged format, he did a fair amount over the years... and yet at the same time, when you really think about it, he ultimately did so very little.
Oh, and there was also a Metal Scourge at one point. I'm aware that the man who made him has never been all there in the head, but I still find myself questioning why he saw fit to go through with this nonsense.
Tumblr media
I shouldn't need to say this, but that's a disgrace to the hostile Eggman robot that I know and detest.
The Design: Well, he started off as a Sonic, so it's to be expected that he'd look exactly like the lovable goof. Since this was ~Evil~ Sonic though, he was determined to remind us at all times that Grease was in fact the word.
Tumblr media
~You're the one I don't want, you're not the one for, no-ho-ho, honey~
Then he turned green, and... yeah, he turned green. All I can say, really.
Tumblr media
Please excuse me, I'm utterly beside myself with amazement.
It doesn't quite strike the imaginative chords, needless to say. And neither does his super state, which... I'm sorry, it's not normally my cup of tea to chide others for their appearance, but just look at this tripe for a moment.
Tumblr media
No, I don't think I will.
When you combine his already ridiculous self with black eyes and a tiara... what exactly is the intent here? Am I supposed to be intimidated by this display?
Keep this between us if you can, but personally, I'm more intimidated by staircases than I am by this fiend.
The Personality: You would think that since a Sonic is a Sonic, Scourge would share a lot of his personality with our Sonic. And that is true... in the most superficial sense possible.
Sure, he's jovial, cocky, and prone to moments of overconfidence, which is enough to sound very familiar to us on paper. Beyond that however, that's all they really have in common beside their appearance. In every other category, you could argue that Scourge is the exact opposite of Sonic.
For instance, whereas Sonic is supremely loyal to his friends (trust me, I’m grateful to know!), Scourge treats his gang like fetid garbage, and that's when he's not outright abandoning them, neglecting them, and putting them in danger. Likewise, whereas Sonic is a blue bundle of bravery no matter the odds, Scourge is a poor little chicken when the going gets tough, despite all his ramblings about being Sonic's full potential.
This means that for all the acclaim he receives as Sonic's evil doppelganger... he shares very few similarities with who he's replicating. He's barely any different from all the other ruffians that Sonic faces, so what point is there to him being a Sonic at all? If he had a different name and design entirely, what would honestly be lost in translation?
But then, maybe he would just become Mephiles the Dark instead.
Or Mimic the Octopus instead.
Or Eggman Nega instead.
Or Ken Penders instead.
Or... sheesh, they all kind of blend together after a while, don’t they?
The Execution: If my general tone has thus far not been enough of an obvious indication, I do not rank Scourge with any particular favouritism when it comes to Sonic's rogue gallery.
Mind you, ANYONE who threatens our world and tries to kill my friends is nothing but rancid at their core, and as long as they remain unrepentant, I would never support any of them. Asking me which dangerous maniac is “the best” is like asking me which sewage stinks the least, after all. But even I can understand that there's a right way to do bad, and a wrong way to do bad. Scourge, Evil Sonic, whatever you wish to call him, falls squarely into the latter category.
Tumblr media
How I'd love to shove an arrow up His Majesty's rear end.
First of all, his motivations were poorly structured, and that's putting it tactfully. Most of the time, we're led to assume that he does evil for no other reason than because it's evil, so we're already not looking at masterpiece material. But as it turns out, as I mentioned way earlier on, he grew resentful of his father for not giving him as much attention as he felt he deserved.
So when he killed his dear old dad, and went on to do everything else to bitterly stick it to his dad's memory, we're supposed to... sympathise...? Understand his point of view, perhaps...?
Well, I dare say I'll be sticking my nose up to THAT presumption, because there is no pathos to be had here. None at all. It's just a selfish brat becoming a violent and murderous selfish brat, and nothing more. By doing everything for evil's sake, intertwined with this sorry excuse of a tragic backstory, it's as if he's trying to have the best of both villainous worlds, without understanding what makes either of them work.
Secondly, for what little success that Scourge actually had to his name, few of them were by his own hand so to speak. As much as it pains me to give Dr. Eggman even a veneer of kudos, it does require mentioning that for all of the doctor's contemptible attributes, he truly is single-handedly responsible for a great majority of his own... achievements, if you wish to call them such. By contrast, this stinker rarely worked for his moments, instead often relying solely on others to get anything done efficiently, whether it be Fiona, Finitevus, his gangs, or the Anarchy Beryl. Without them, Scourge was always nothing.
Thirdly, as mentioned, he failed to fulfill even the basic concept of what Sonic would be like if he became evil, since he has virtually nothing in common with the hero he's trying so desperately to present himself as the corrupted counterpart to. While I'd obviously prefer not to entertain the mere notion of an evil Sonic anyways, since I know deep in my heart that he would never go down that path, I know him well enough to reasonably assume that even if he did lose his way, he would still be recognisable in some capacity, since there are countless aspects to his personality that remain so... inherent to how his mind operates.
I guess what I'm saying is that if an evil Sonic came to be, he would exist as a darker mirror of how Sonic actually is, and not... something that is not at all like Sonic beyond the physical.
Tumblr media
What's the matter? Not used to a horse seeing you for what you really are?
Finally, remember when I said he was considerably more cowardly than Sonic? I wasn't simply referring to life or death battles and similar heat of the moment situations. Even when the scenario is of lower intensity, when the odds are completely in his favor at that, Scourge proves himself to be what Sonic isn't. Remember when he broke into the house of Sonic's father, with the intent to intimidate and kill said father... only to be scolded into submission by him? We're expected to believe this guy is a big baddie who ranks high in threat level, yet getting a telling off is sufficient enough to shoo him away?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If only Eggman was this easy to deal with...
Now granted, it's to my understanding that all of Scourge's failings are occasionally explained as him being a parody character. But, and correct me if I'm wrong here... aren't parodies supposed to be, you know, parodic, even if done subtly? As opposed to being played completely straight with no trace of irony, which is exactly how Scourge was portrayed throughout the entire duration of the comic's run, with no exceptions whatsoever?
Despite how often the comic insisted otherwise, and despite how often he received it, Scourge was not a villain who warranted importance. He was not a master planner, or a legendary conquerer, or a malevolent force of nature. He was bottom of the barrel, a wannabe at best, who thought he was made for bigger stripes, but remained little more than a walking pile of fresh manure, with nothing to show for it till the very end. His credibility was often alluded to, and handed to him, but never in any stretch was it properly earned. A punk who occasionally got lucky is hardly worth the rank of arch-fiend, in my humble opinion. He was a disgrace who simply had the luxury of wearing Sonic's skin to mask his shortcomings, and I can’t say I’m crestfallen to see him go.
And quite frankly, anyone who impersonates Sonic in the first place reeks to high heaven anyway. To think this trash heap thought he could ever compare in the slightest to my darling... Oh goodness, did I say that out loud?
Lutrudis Gives Scourge a: Thumbs Down!

THE AARONS 2019 - Best TV Show
Last year, I said that I had become content with knowing that there are far too many streaming service with far too many great TV shows for me to ever watch everything worthwhile. This year, I signed up for a bunch of free trials and canceled immediately before they billed me. I’m not sure where the contentment went, but I do know that I found a bunch of great contenders. Here are the Aarons for Best TV Show:
Tumblr media
#10. Evil (Season 1) - CBS
Tumblr media
Why, yes, Evil is good. The rare CBS show able to make such a list, the procedural hailing from The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King twists the languishing network-TV formula into the devil’s playthings. A spiritual spiritual-successor to The X-Files, Evil blurs the lines between skepticism and belief as its trio of investigators unravel a series of uncanny phenomenon, while asking the viewer if supernatural malice looks any different from human cruelty. The show’s attempts to incorporate modern technology can sometimes be a bit clueless, but overall the show is sold by its ambition. The devil’s not in the details.
Tumblr media
#9. The Good Place (Season 4) - NBC
Tumblr media
Why, yes, Good is good as well. The NBC comedy had questionable long-term sustainability when it first premiered, but thanks to nimble inventiveness, it’s tough to imagine saying farewell four seasons later. The Good Place has been a safe haven during uncertain times as an exaltation of the virtues of forgiveness, kindness, and self-improvement. While less structurally ambitious than past seasons, the fourth season was the show’s most thematically ambitious as the creators played god by crafting a whole new afterlife. In this philosophical debate over the concept of justice, the show more than justified its long-term existence.
Tumblr media
#8. Arrow (Season 8) - CW
Tumblr media
Arrow truly became something else over the course of its run, growing from a gritty Batman Begins-inspired melodrama into a network-dominating superhero universe that just powered-through its most ambitious crossover yet. With a shortened season order and an ominous prophecy of death hanging over its hooded head, Arrow pulled out all the greatest hits from its quiver in a rapid-fire revisitation of settings and reunion of cast members. Bringing Oliver Queen face-to-face with his adult children from the future, the show finally made its litigating of legacy literal. The Green Arrow is gone, but the hero left quite a mark.
Tumblr media
#7. When They See Us (Limited Series) - Netflix
Tumblr media
Representation matters. The stories we choose to tell and the stories we choose to listen to make a powerful impact on the betterment, or worsening, of equality and justice. When They See Us shows us a failure, and hopes for an uplifting. Director Ava DuVernay’s intimate, authentic recreation of the tragedy of the Exonerated Five, boys wrongfully imprisoned for a violent assault in Central Park, unravels the prejudice, malice, and laziness that upend our justice system and destroy lives. The story’s true-to-life intersection with the currently-in-power, forever impeached President is all the more reason that now is the time to see When They See Us.

#6. Mr. Robot (Season 4) - USA
Tumblr media
The early episodes of Mr. Robot were met with trepidation that it would be little more than an infantile Fight Club rip-off. In its final episodes, creator Sam Esmail codifies that he is no hack. The show’s well-researched technological thievery is as thrilling as ever (Experimental episode formats this season include an entirely dialogue-free heist), but its real endgame boils the conflict down to one of mind and soul. With its final season, the ever-elusive show finally brings all its various string-pullers into the light in gut-wrenching yet deeply-empathetic reveals. Who could have guessed Mr. Robot possessed such humanity?

#5. Dickinson (Season 1) - Apple TV+
Tumblr media
I would not have stopped for Apple TV, but I would gladly stop for thee, Dickinson. Though inspired by the life and poetry of Emily Dickinson, Alena Smith’s comedy mixes the artist’s love of the macabre with a sense of millennial malaise. Throughout its 19th Century-set trials, tribulations, and guest spots from John Mulaney as Henry David Thoreau, the cast behave as modern teenagers and are backed by a contemporary soundtrack. The approach laces the sitcom’s situations with a delightful ironic wit, but, more preciously, forges a sense of camaraderie across eras. In the relatable burdens of past lovers, we find ourselves, and Dickinson find immortality.

#4. Tuca & Bertie (Season 1) - Netflix
Tumblr media
While its shared style caused many comparisons to a certain other Netflix series, Tuca & Bertie was in fact a horse of another color. Confident in its voice, and the voices of its stars Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, from the get-go, the show stretched the wings of its animation with more substantial surrealism than its sister show. While a scintillating showcase of cartoon buffoonery, the series’ content is not just for the birds; Tuca & Bertie find courage in the face of addiction, power in the face of trauma, and persistence in the face of sexist power structures. Coupled with Bertie’s boyfriend Speckle, perhaps my favorite character from all of TV, these birds of a feather have impeccable chemistry and insight. Who knows what heights it could have soared to had it not been cancelled after one season?
Tumblr media
#3. Green Eggs and Ham (Season 1) - Netflix
Tumblr media
With unusual grandeur for a project its size, Green Eggs is a show that’s one of a kind. It’s hand-drawn animation (Expensive, I’m sure) gives this adaptation a can’t-miss allure. With an all-star cast, cute jokes, and surprising twists too, you’ll want to follow the Chickeraffe’s road-trip escape from the zoo. And don’t forget the very best part! This TV serves up a whole lot of heart! If you want a show whose theme song is a jam, you surely will love Green Eggs and Ham.
Tumblr media
#2. Watchmen (Season 1) - HBO
Tumblr media
The original graphic novel has long been an essential read for the genre; the new sequel TV show is now a must-watch, man. Respectful of its source material but not beholden to its ideas, Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof’s ‘remix’ revitalized Watchmen’s power by substituting Cold-War nuclear anxiety for the insidious threat of entrenched white supremacy. With a harrowing recreation of the Tulsa Massacre and ingenious retcons to a few comic characters, Watchmen provoked complicated questions on race relations. In true Lindelof fashion, it also wisely left many things unanswered. The quality is good enough that the comic’s writer might just have to rethink his stance on adaptations of his work, and good enough that the viewer might want HBO to rethink their decision to end the show after one year. Yet the retroactively limited series ends on a perfect note, and there is no more.
Tumblr media
AND THE BEST TV SHOW OF 2019 IS...
#1. You’re the Worst (Season 5) - FXX
Tumblr media
Evil is good, and The Worst is the best (What a list I have this year!). Of all the series on this list that capped their run in 2019, You’re the Worst has always had the lowest stakes, but its ending by far hit the hardest. In season five, the whirlwind will-they/won’t-they resistant romance between narcissistic writer Jimmy Shive-Overly and self-destructive PR executive Gretchen Cutler reached its decisive culmination. To suggest the show reached an ending, though, would be a disservice to the beautiful decisions made. Such decisions were a perfectly imperfect solution for two imperfect people, striving each day to be better and do well by one another, meeting each other where they are. In the end, the show’s initial billing as an “anti-rom-com” was proven a mismarriage; the laugh-out-loud show had a profound outlook on what it means to love another person. Hilarious and heartful from beginning to end, You’re the Worst will go down in history as one of TV’s greatest.

To Undertale
In honor of its 4 year anniversary, I would like to talk a bit about Undertale (I know I’m a bit late, but bear with me). Apologies ahead of time for the long post, and to anyone who reads it in its entirety; thank you. Also thank you very much to Toby Fox for giving birth to this masterpiece that has touched all of us so much :) I will be discussing several important details in the story, so SPOILER ALERT (just in case)
I came upon Undertale very late. It had already been out for about a year when I first heard about it, but everyone said such wonderful things and I was curious, so I decided to watch a playthrough on youtube, just to sate my curiosity. But Oh Man, I was not prepared for what I found: a gorgeous soundtrack, dozens of memorable characters, an amazing story, an incredible journey, and a veritable fountain of feelings sprouting in my heart. I fell in love.
For at least several weeks afterwards, the words “stay determined”, “everyone can be better if they just try” and “despite everything, it’s still you” bounced around in my head. Also, the idea that “even if its painful, even if you are going through a hard time, you can always choose to be kind, and happiness can always be found there, for others as well as yourself” became embedded in my soul. Even now, thinking about the True Pacifist ending fills me with joy. It was only fairly recently that I finally completed my own playthrough of the game, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were still many little secrets to uncover (for example, did you know that the  “gauntlet of deadly terror” bridge is just a rock formation that Papyrus painted over to make it more dramatic? He also added the rope for safety LOL😂)
The best part of the game, in my opinion, are the main characters. They are all more complex than they appear, they all have their struggles, and I would like to talk a bit about my opinions and theories about all of them.
Let us start from the beginning and talk about everyone’s favorite goatmom, Toriel. Of course, we all know her sadness at the death of her children, new and old, but if we really think about it there are signs that the situation may have been even worse than it seems... Namely, the shoe box in the room Toriel prepares for Frisk. If you check it, it says there are several shoes “in a disparity of sizes”. Presumably, these are the shoes left behind by the human children before they left the ruins, but they surely didn’t leave the ruins barefoot, right? And if they only stayed with Toriel for a day or so like Frisk does then she wouldn’t have had the opportunity or the need to go out and get some for them. This implies that each human child that fell probably stayed with Toriel for a while, long enough for her to need to buy them new shoes, maybe even because they outgrew their original pair. This, in turn, means that she had a chance to really get to know them, take care of them, and love them, unlike Frisk, who she only took care of for a little while before we leave. This might explain why she is so angry at Asgore, why it is unlikely that she will ever forgive him. If this is true, he not only killed random innocent human children that she didn’t really know, which is bad enough on its own, he might have killed her children, children she treasured. This also explains why she is so obsessive about protecting Frisk from everything and keeping them in the ruins no matter the cost. And yet, despite her pain, her “loneliness and her fear”, she still is one of the most gentle, kind and caring characters you meet, even willing to try to prevent Asgore’s death as well as Frisk’s. Toriel is best goatmom <3
Then we meet the star of the True Pacifist run (especially if you call him often); the Great Papyrus! He is my second favorite character for good reason. He is so much fun from the very beginning. Although he might appear to be a bit narcissistic at first, you quickly realize that in truth he is just lonely and desperate to impress in a misguided attempt to make more friends. Even so, he is always attentive to the feelings of his friends and tries his best to make them feel better. His relationship with Undyne is also quite adorable, and there are signs that he knows more than he lets on about everything (he is at the very least great at gauging the emotional state of people and manipulating them a little to push them towards self improvement, as Frisk’s date with Undyne and his warning about Alphys can demonstrate). Also, the way he always tries to believe the best of people, even in the worst circumstances or when he is scared, is truly admirable. I really love that precious cinnamon roll
Then there is Sans. Oh my god, Sans. He steals the show in the genocide route, truly. He is my favorite character of all, and there are so many things about him you don’t find out if you don’t dig deeper and talk to several people. First of all, he is a wonderful brother. Although he always teases Papyrus, he does his best to cheer him up all the time (for example, in the Genocide route he says that Junior Jumble is the hardest, even though in other routes he says its the crossword, just to make Papyrus feel a bit better when the human refuses to play along with his puzzles), he pays the bills for the house, he probably gave Papyrus his action figures (Papyrus tells you santa gave them to him, but there is a thank you letter to santa in Sans’ room), he made sure Papyrus’ room was super cool and comfortable when he doesn’t even have a bed frame himself, he was probably the one who bought Papyrus his car on the surface (one of the guys at Grillby’s tells you that he spends most of his time checking out car magazines), he helped  him build his sentry station and battle body, and he reads him bed time stories every night. Second of all, although he seems to be a comic relief character at first, he is struggling with major depression (you can find out that he is eating less, he doesn’t sleep much at all at night, he feels hopeless all the time, he seems fatigued all day, and he doesn’t see a point in doing anything at all) and is probably using humor to cope. Finally, there is Sans’ heroism as well as his tragedy: he is one of the only characters who is aware of the resets. First he had to live through Flowey’s endless resets, when he first befriended everyone and then proceeded to kill them all in a variety of ways, presumably being the one to stop him from getting the human souls several times (Flowey tells you that Sans has caused him “more than his fair share of resets”). Then there is YOU, who manage to free the monsters, begrudgingly earn his trust/friendship, and then rip it all away (even worse, he is completely aware of your betrayal; if you reset after a True Pacifist ending, you can find a picture of Frisk smiling happily with all of your friends together, and the only time such a picture is taken is when you all make it to the surface, so he certainly knows that you freed everyone and then returned them to the darkness for your curiosity). And yet despite all of that, despite knowing that fighting you is pointless (especially since he can tell every time he kills you and you load your save file), despite not having hope anymore that he will one day see the sun and remain under its light, he still fights you fiercely on the genocide route, again and again, employing all of his considerable power, but not for himself (he doesn’t hope for anything anymore after all); its because he still wants his brother and his friends to have a better future, because he knows that if you win the world will end and no one will ever return, because he still wants you to reset so that everyone will come back and have another chance at happiness, no matter how brief. Jesus christ, this character gives me all of the feels. I love him so much
As for Undyne, I love how she seems so rough but is actually very sweet to her friends and loved ones, and she cares so much for her fellow monsters, always trying her best for their sake. Also, her crush on Alphys is the cutest thing ever, particularly if you take the time to call her often (you’d be surprised how often she talks about Alphys. Papyrus also tries to encourage her several times to be honest with her feelings, and their dynamic is frankly the best mentor-student relationship I’ve ever seen)
In the case of Flowey, I really like how he is a sort of reflection of the player ingame, especially for those who chose to go through the genocide route (“‘I don’t like this’, I told myself, ‘I’m just doing this because I have to see what happens’ Hahaha, what an excuse!”). And the Asriel twist was truly masterfully executed.
I really empathize with Alphys in a lot of ways, since I struggle with social anxiety myself. Her journey to overcome her self hatred and be honest about her mistakes is really touching. I love how her friends understand that she only had the best of intentions at heart and continue to stand by her when she comes clean about what she did. Friendship can really make all the difference in the world for those of us who are struggling like her in one way or another. Her apparent suicide if you kill Mettaton or Undyne, her pillars of support, is one of the saddest things in the game I think. I also really admire how during genocide she presumably opens up the true lab for the evacuating monsters despite her fears, and if you abandon the genocide route in Hotland she takes charge in order to protect all monsters in Undyne’s stead
When we first meet him, my opinion of Mettaton is the same as Undyne’s; “I don’t really like that guy, but I admire his lifestyle”. However, I really enjoyed his growth as a character after Frisk beats him and his fans remind him of what is truly important. He becomes so much more supportive of his friends, and I really like how he always stays true to who he is, even going so far as to find the body/look that perfectly represented how he felt inside, and later encouraged others to do the same (like giving that one lion his dress)
Finally, we come to one of the most interesting characters, even though they are rarely mentioned and not really seen except in the ending of the genocide route: Chara. Truthfully, I think they are often misunderstood because the biggest impression they make is in said ending, when they take control of Frisk and destroy the world. However, I do not believe Chara was inherently evil. After all there are clear indications that Chara is the narrator of the game (the most obvious being the mirrors in Genocide). They tell you that your determination awakened them from death, and I believe that their spirit becomes attached to yours at the beginning of your adventure, which would explain how you, a human new to the underground, can understand the monsters that can’t speak normally like the Froggits and the snails (notice that their text starts with a noise they make, like “ribbit”, and what they actually mean is in parenthesis) as well as the ancient writing on the walls. After all, Chara lived in the underground long enough to become a sibling to Asriel and become known by all the monsters, it would make sense for them to have learned their language, and then they translate for you. This would also mean that all the funny commentary whenever you check an object or a monster comes from Chara. Also Chara being the narrator would explain why they go silent at one point or another during the battles with Asgore and Toriel (when the description says only “...”). Many people argue that their plan to cross the barrier with Asriel and kill humans means they were evil, but I do not think so, even if they did hate humanity. After all, if they only wanted the power to kill humans they could have killed one of the Dreemurs in their sleep, taken their soul and crossed the barrier with it. Instead, they killed themselves, gave Asriel their soul in order to break the barrier and made a plan to free all of their monster friends and family. Death from buttercup poisoning is not an easy one either (it includes bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and blistering of the intestines); they had to suffer in terrible agony for days in order to achieve their goal, all for their monster family. People also argue that the fact that they laughed after accidentally poisoning Asgore means they did it on purpose or enjoyed causing him pain, but Undertale shows us many times that sometimes you laugh when the only thing you want to do is cry. There is also this during the fight with the Snowy amalgamate which proves my point: (look below) . Finally, during the battle with Asriel in True Pacifist, you use your memories with your friends in order to save them, but you don’t know Asriel at all, so how do you save him? The answer is simple: Chara shares their memories of him with you, and since they are the narrator, they are also the one who encourages you to use the last of your power to save your friends. In conclusion, I think in the beginning Chara is just a slightly bitter, slightly misguided, sometimes unnecessarily violent child who tried to do their best to protect those they loved, even though in hindsight it might not have been with a good method. In many ways, they remind me of Undyne (specially after MK says that maybe she is mean, not cool, in the True Pacifist ending. That really breaks my heart, when I think about all she has done for monsters in general and MK in particular in other routes. It would also explain why Chara seems to admire her so much, calling her a heroine in every route and seeming horrified by the state of her body when she is killed in neutral routes). This means that what they become in the Genocide route is because of you, and they even tell you so at the end (you are the one who makes them think the only meaning of their reincarnation is acquiring power). It makes sense that seeing everyone they know and love being killed systematically right in front of them would twist them, turn them into something they were never meant to be in order to cope with what is happening. Also, Sans does say that gaining LV causes you to feel less and hurt others more easily. Your actions take that well-intentioned but misguided child and turn them into a demon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am so in love with these characters that I cannot do a Genocide route myself. I only know about it from watching playthroughs but I don’t have the heart to destroy their happiness. I only ever did a single run, without resetting once, all the way up to True Pacifist. I like to think that in some universe where they are real, they are living happily on the surface, Sans has had the chance to restore his lost hopes, and resets are no more.
I would also like to thank the Undertale fandom for giving me a home, and so many wonderful ideas to explore. Since Deltarune practically confirms that the Multiverse exists in canon, the possibilities are endless, and the amount of detail and dedication you guys have devoted to building those other realities is truly outstanding. I specially love Underfell, Aftertale (and its close relative Errortale), Underswap, Handplates, Endertale, and Underverse/Xtale. To their creators, thank you for the ideas, the art, and the possibilities. And most of all, thank you Toby Fox for starting us all on this wonderful journey.
And to all my fellow fans: Remember, Always Stay Determined ♥️

From Skyrawathi, 12/24/2018
Okay so I have read your letters. I understand what you mean. I am just not sure if you are honest with your apologizing and with willing to end this war. I mean it is hard now for me to trust you because I am afraid that you will start insulting me again soon. I hope I am wronf. [sic] Maybe I just need some time. I guess we both need to calm down. Especially it is Christmas now. Emotions are hard to handle. I am also sick of this situation already. But if what you say is true and you want to be honest with me, ans [sic] you don’t want use [sic] anymore to be enemies then it is so cool
I could show you how you can develop your art, where you can find inspiration and how to use them to create sth original. You really don’t need my art that much and you don’t need to redraw them. I mean it is so cool if we could inspire each other, but you have to start first creating something original. And yeah, you can because as you have mentioned that comic Possessive of yours, you prove with this that you can be creative and inspiring for other artists. Just lets calm down because I never intended to be your enemy, I never wanted to. But you see how far this conflict went and it is stupid? Don’t you think?
I understand that sometimes it is hard for everyone to come up with sth new and we lack new ideas. Every artist suffer this so it is nothing to be ashamed of. I can show you how to fix that so you will always have awesome ideas in head.
But first you definately [sic] have to credit me. And if you want to make a redraw of my work then you should write in post that this pic is study of Skyrawathi’s art. And it is nth wrong because lots of artists study others. Me either. I always mention the source of the pic that I used as reference.
So yeah, we can definately [sic] end this war and come to agreement. But just please, do what I ask. Credit me when you use my art, and if you can be that cool to ask me for permission before you do a redraw then that would be really awesome of you. Then you will never ever deal with reporting because your hands will be clean.
In return to show you that I am not evil, I can help you with improvement. I can show you how to turn your inspirations into original ideas and how to draw chamiko so well that you will never ever need someone’s pic as a base.
Does it sound ok for you?
Now, from what I’ve gathered from the first paragraph of this email along with mentions to prior emails in the same chain as alluded to in the PSA post, D decided that before Christmas–a time when everyone wants to relax and spend time with their families, friends, and loved ones; the season of comfort and joy–was an excellent time to send insulting emails and threats to her most inspiring idol, just for reporting D’s facebook page.  I cannot imagine what was said, but the way Sky is reacting leads me to believe that the insults were so volatile that they may never see the light of day again.  Sky might have even feared for her well being and that is why she is offering to help.  If this is how D treats someone she claims to hold in such high respect and idolize, then I cannot imagine how she treats anyone below such a pedestal.
Actually, I can.  For telling the admin of a closed Xiaolin facebook group that D was plagiarizing other artists, which resulted in D getting kicked from the group, I was called “a crazy bitch” back in September of 2018.  I have not once insulted D, yet she continues to berate me and harass me on multiple social media sites for warning others about her.  I’ll speak more on this later.
Back to the email.  To summarize what Sky is saying:
Sky is tired of this war; it’s stupid and she wants it to stop
Sky doesn’t know if she can forgive D
D’s actions have repeatedly shown that she cannot be trusted
Sky is willing to help D improve so that she can get better and not need to copy other’s art
In order to get to that point, Sky asked D for four things:
give Sky credit on the art that D has already posted
start crediting and sourcing the artists whose work D “studies” or “copies to learn from”
ask Sky (and any other artists) for permission before doing a redraw of their respective artwork
create something original
At no point does Sky say they are friends or “mutuals.”
At no point in this email does Sky say that D and her are mutual in anything, but I would infer there is a mutual understanding that D must do better.  None of this excuses D’s harassing and abusive behavior.
Alright, if D wants to work on herself and get better let’s see how she is doing on her end of the deal with crediting and sourcing artists.  I’d give links to D’s OPs, but she has me blocked.
Tumblr media
“Version inspired from [Sky’s real name] aka Skyrawathi”
Ah yes, I always love getting doxed when one of my fans credit me without linking back to my original work!  Please don’t do this.  Only villains do this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Three instances of “Inspired from Skyrawathis version”
Again, no link?  Not even going to mention the title of the piece?  Sky has HUNDREDS of pictures!  How am I going to know which one D is copying?  How will I know where to find Sky’s original works if you DON’T LINK TO THEM????  I am but a lazy potato!
Tumblr media
“Inspired from Skyrawathi Chamiko Great Wall Kiss”
Better, but still no link.
Tumblr media
“Inspired from Skyrawathi “Together in Snowflakes” ”
Getting fancy with the formatting here, but WHERE IS THE LINK??????
Tumblr media
“Original design and concept”
Ah, finally!  Something original, just as requested!  Although… Chase’s pose looks kinda familiar.  So does that horse.  I wonder…
Tumblr media
Chase’s pose is Dashi’s character art from the Xiaolin Dragons Kickstarter art dump part one.
Tumblr media
Oh, and Kimiko’s pose and horse are literally the second result for “mulan horse” on Google images.  But, tell me again how D has changed and is crediting artists and making original drawings without reference?
If you want to credit people, please use MLA format for your citing.  Or if that’s too hard to remember, here’s a handy formula:
[Artist’s username]. “[Title of Piece].”  [Publishing platform or publication e.g. Tumblr, Deviant Art, Instagram, Time Magazine etc.], [date published], [source URL].
@Skyrawathi. “Together in snowflakes.” Deviant Art, December 24, 2017, https://www.deviantart.com/skyrawathi/art/Together-in-snowflakes-721748400
Here’s a more casual way to credit someone if that’s too formal for you, with links bolded:
Couldn’t get enough of @Skyrawathi‘s “Together in snowflakes” so I had to redraw it (with permission)!
Here’s an original image I made using these references: Chase’s pose (Grand Master Dashi), Kimiko and Horse.
The point is to LINK BACK TO THE ORIGINAL ARTIST.  Simply mentioning them as plain text does not work.  LINK TO YOUR REFERENCES.  I should not have to do an internet search to find what you are referencing.  The citing I did here took less than two minutes.  If someone cannot take two minutes or less to show such a basic level of respect then there is no hope.
As for the matter of being “mutuals,” I am sorry for jumping to “friends,” but that is usually what “mutuals” means on Tumblr; “two people, usually friends, that follow each other’s blogs.”  Not all mutuals are friends and not all friends are mutuals.  I jumped the gun a bit based on personal meaning assigned to that word.  However that doesn’t explain this:
Tumblr media
Facebook status post from D that reads:
[Sky’s real name] (aka Skyrawathi) is an amazing Chamiko artist and I am truly inspired by her work. I should’ve credited her in the beginning, I didn’t think I had to but I will from now on out of respect for her work. I hope to improve my art as much as I can and strive to get my skills to her level, even though I know I have my own set of skills and will still continue to be inspired from her work and in general in the future, but I hope to not have to rely on a reference to draw. I appreciate us coming to an agreement and I hope we can be mutual in all of this. Thank you Skyrawathi, and it’s a dream come true to be able to become friends with the person who has inspired my work all this time. I will work on making original Chamiko art that is 100% from me (heart emoji)
Once again, don’t put someone’s real name with their URL.  It can be construed as doxing.  Do not do that.  It’s highly disrespectful gesture towards someone one claims to hold in such high regard, but as has already been established, D lacks this basic understanding of respect.
I have been doing art for almost three decades.  I know people who have been doing it two and three times longer than I.  We all use reference.  Do not set yourself up for failure by saying you “hope to not have to rely on a reference to draw,” because that is never going to happen.  This goes for everyone.  Using reference is not a crutch.  Reference is a tool for when you do not know how to draw something.  Young artists use a lot of references because they do not have the knowledge or experience of drawing a hand 500 times, or a head 1,000 times, or a leg 250 times!  There is no shame in that perceived lack.  Getting around it is just practice.  Find photographs–either free and open stock or your own–and draw what you see.  D has a great eye and very nice photos on her Instagram before it was taken down!  She could learn a lot by doing studies from her own photos like this.  But Sky’s art, my art, everyone else’s art is NOT anyone’s reference!  It took me a while to understand that, but I’m lucky in that I didn’t get myself into any trouble with that misunderstanding.  The best way around that misunderstanding, should it occur, is to first, apologize to the artist you referenced; second ask what they would like done with the artwork you made.  If they want it taken down–remove it from all platforms.  Do not reupload it anywhere.  If they say it’s fine, just credit them, then credit them as I explained above with LINKS.  “Crediting” the original artists as plain text shows that D has not changed as she claims to, or is only trying to placate her audience to believe she is telling the truth about her change.
Continuing with that lack of change, here is the text I bolded:
“I hope we can be MUTUAL … it’s a dream come true to be able to become FRIENDS…”
What is the truth, Delaney?  Friends or Mutuals?  Since D is so unreliable in her narrative, let’s hear Sky’s take:
Tumblr media
Transcription of DMs:
Sky: Sorry, that I will bother you with Delaney but she has just written to me. She said that there is some drama on Tumblr. Said that she never called me and her friends and I approved it because I am hell no friend to her. And she also asked me what kind of problems people still have with her…xD and I was a bit like WTF. But I told her again that she has done so much harm to so many ppl that she cannot expect from anyone to just simply forget.
[…]
She actually left me in peace and I am happy about it. And even if she writed sth [sic] then I just ignore her, because I don’t want to have anything to do with her. But I just checked this letter about Chaos. Anyway I would very much appreciated if she wasn’t mentioning me and using my person as a ladder for her business.
This is what I also told her. She can’t expect from us to be ok with her. Nobody will start liking her just because she said sorry.
Once again, I repeat, Sky is NOT D’s friend.  Sky wants nothing to do with D.  Sky does not even want D to mention her at all, ever.  So all that artwork I have screen capped from D’s blog should not even be posted, because–per Sky’s wishes–D cannot credit Sky without mentioning her, inevitably associating the two together.   As such, D cannot have any of the artwork she copied from Sky posted without violating the wishes of someone she claims to highly respect.  Furthermore, posting the artwork she claims to be “original” while still copying well known and iconic material without due credit or sourcing shows that D has not changed, or even attempted to change.  All this drama has bungled things for D so much that no one is wiling to talk to or work with her.  Thus, all of the terms Sky set up to help D have been violated.  If D wants to claim she has changed she needs to SHOW she has changed without words, through actions.
That means that instead of finding my three month old post about her and replying “lol” on multiple occasions has to STOP.  Replying to my posts about her misdeeds has to STOP.  Messaging people who give notes to those posts about her has to STOP.  Directly messaging people who give her original posts notes asking them to follow her has to STOP.  Harassing everyone and anyone who slightly disagrees with her has to STOP.  All of this:
Tumblr media
D replied to your post: You’re so wrong. And if anyone is toxic in this, it’s you for not letting this go. You re jealous of me. Period. That’s why you can’t seem to let it go. I have apologized and redeemed myself. If you people can’t get over that, that’s on you.

D IM: You have issues if you can’t seem to let this go. Me and sky are mutual now. Not that I have to explain anything to you. I have redeemed myself and apologised to everyone. Still you people make posts about me, trying to diminish my following but it’s never gonna happen. Thanks for the publicity again
Tumblr media
D asked me: Please get a life, It’s pathetic
D replied to your post: Again, me. Clearly. Let it go like Elsa.
HAS TO STOP.
I have made three (3) posts about D including this one (excluding reblogs).  In total D has left harassing messages to me 7-10 times.  Not once has she apologized for harassing me on dA, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, or Twitter.  Not once has she shown me any sign of changing her ways.  All we have asked for is BASIC RESPECT.  At every turn D promises to start respecting us and change her ways, then laughs in our faces for even thinking we were worthy of Her respect and attention.
Respect is an interesting thing.  You have to give it to get it.  Even a three year old understands this.  Until D shows the capacity at this basic level to show respect and common courtesy to her peers, superiors, and kohai no one is going to interact with her; she will continue to be treated as nothing more than a joke.
You want to learn how to draw using reference?  I have a rough tutorial for that.
You want to learn how to use and learn from your studies?  I got something for that too!
You want some references? Try Senshi-Stock’s official app or what’s left of Tumblr.  AnatomicalArt has thousands of references and tutorials, and with all of this on Tumblr, crediting your sources is easier than ever!
Or, you know, take some selfies and not have to credit anyone.  ;D
TL;DR
D: you’re wrong; I never said Sky and I were friends; we’re MUTUAL! D: here are some terms Sky made that I agreed to–
Sky’s terms:
Give Sky credit on the work D has already copied
D must credit and source all other artists she copies
D must ask permission to copy anyone in the future
D must create something original
If all these terms are met, Sky will help teach D how to use reference correctly so D can draw better.
Receipts showing the following:
6 instances of D not properly crediting Sky
D claiming something to be original without citing referenced materials
Mini guide on how to properly cite an artist or reference:
LINK TO THE ORIGINAL POST AND ARTIST PROFILE!!
Seriously, it’s not that hard!?
Facebook status from D calling Sky both “a mutual” and “a friend.”  [what is the truth.gif]
DMs from Sky saying as follows:
Sky is not D’s friend!
Sky wants nothing to do with D
Sky wants D to stop mentioning her altogether
Sky cutting ties like this means that D cannot mention Sky to credit her on reposts of the copied art.
>violates term 1
D has few other artworks to post, so she cannot credit other artists.
>fails term 2
Everyone is so hurt by D that she has been completely shut out and will be hard pressed to find anyone to give her permission in the future.
>fails term 3
D’s attempt to create something “original” resulted in copying and not sourcing more artwork
>fails term 4, 3, and 2
Please stop harassing me.  Look at all these receipts!  Learn some basic respect before coming back.
Have a few tutorials and resources.

So I was gonna send you an anon ask re: writing Norse myth fic vs. MCU/Marvel fic, as far as how you generally approach Thor/Loki in those different realms and your fave tropes/themes to explore— but I’m not on mobile for once and so in trying to find your ask button, I first found the page for your grand unified theory of Loki and now i’m Just Screeching because I’m so excited to read everything you have linked and would love to just flail with you about it sometime *chinhands* *heart eyes*
PLZ FLAIL WITH ME ABOUT IT SOMETIME *___* i would love that, i live for that!
My writing any of the grand unified theory of loki has sort of fallen by the wayside but i still want to get back to it someday and i’m rly happy when anyone stumbles across that tag and gets something out of it, because i really feel there is something of value there, and other perspectives on it are amazing.
Regarding how i approach such things... it’s weird to me you often see people talking about how completely totally different marvel thor and loki are from their myth counterparts, but I don’t think that’s true, really. They’re of course quite different in many biographical details, but I think they retain the same essence—-they’re different because the myths were told by people of a culture very different from ours, and the Marvel versions from comics and movies are different from each other partly due to the medium and format and genre expectations, but the common thread exists because they are serving the same sorts of purposes in the stories they appear in. We’re not telling the exact same stories, because our cultural context has changed, but we recognize who those older stories were about and we can translate those personalities into our own context and figure out what sorts of stories they fit in now.
And honestly they don’t look all that different, in a certain light. Marvel thor and myth thor are both earnest, compassionate, prone to anger but quick to forgive. They are unified by defining their own ethics, regardless of Odin or Asgard or any other standard, but caring deeply about doing right. The Thor of Norse mythology was so well loved by people of the time because he was the one you could trust to protect you on principle, out of the goodness of his heart, because he could and therefore he must, rather than being overly concerned with rules or lessons or clever maneuvering—and gosh, doesn’t that also sound a lot like Marvel’s superheroic take on him? And for Loki, Marvel loki and myth loki are both liminal, conflicted, clever but self-defeating. They are unified by their position as torn between two worlds, torn between their need to exact vengeance and their craving for acceptance. A question that has always fascinated me about myth Loki is why he takes up residence in Asgard in the first place, why he’s so hung up on his relationships with the gods, since he could easily have left when things started going badly. But he was hung up. He knew he would never really belong there, and being so close but so far drove the way he behaved, his conniving and his striving and getting in his own way all the time. And dang, doesn’t that resonate for Marvel/MCU Loki too? From there, everything else is just details.
And, I mean, all that works for me because the possible interactions of those two---the ways they can come into conflict and tension, and the ways they can fit together perfectly---basically outline the themes and tropes that interest me most.
but anyway yes plz talk to me about this stuff whenever! clearly i am always willing to type out way more than anyone wanted to hear in response XD

team taka and sasuke going around and freeing orochimaru's prisoners was such a nice arc! sasuke even got a cool title like ''the saviour of shinobi''! it's such a shame it got completely dropped, it's such a shame naruto's readers don't care about sasuke at all
Tumblr media
So true.
(vague anti-team7, anti-s*kura under the cut)
Most fans only care about Sasuke as the counterpart of their (usually OOC) ship, like the one who always fucks up while the other one always saves and/or forgives him. Also, since I hate popular opinions like “you ain’t a real Sasuke fan if you ship him with anyone”, I’ll add that a lot of fans only care about Sasuke as their (equally OOC) self-insert character for justifying their emo phase.
It’s sad that Team Taka never got that popular, probably because when it was introduced readers were too attached to Team7 and wanted Sasuke back in Konoha so they saw the new team as a diversion and a threat, which they are, because honestly S*kura is boring and N*ruto’s personal story isn’t that flashed out in part 1, so Juugo, Karin and Suigetsu’s backgrounds and personalities are much more interesting, take Juugo and Kimimaro, Karin’s tragic past and Suigetsu’s mysterious one along with his brother, only hinted at.
When Suigetsu and Karin were fighting because no one took Suigetsu’s sword after the fight vs Killer B, Juugo made them stop saying “our relationship is like fish and water”, to remind them of how close they had become, and how they lost the sword protecting each other. It’s a very strong and beautiful way to define it.
Also their teamwork is way better and their fights much more interesting to see. Nevertheless fans preferred Team7 so Team Taka was given a support-only role, with occasional comic relief parts, as if they weren’t victims who suffered much more than other characters.
I wasn’t into Team7 so I instantly loved Team Hebi/Taka, just like I loved each and every moment of Sasuke’s narrative.
As for Hebi formation episodes, I rewatched them some time ago and I loved them, there are many little amazing details, and the anime adds filler parts and interaction that are really cool, from Sasuke freeing Suigetsu then them two walking around to retrieve Zabuza’s sword, then freeing all the prisoners in Karin’s hideout so she won’t have to look after them (which is when Suigetsu tells everyone to spread the word about Sasuke being the savior who’ll bring peace to the shinobi world) and a filler flashback of Sasuke and Karin’s first mission together under Orochimaru, then the manga, non filler part where they free Juugo and Sasuke protecting Karin first and taking Juugo’s strong blow without even flinching and telling him he has no intention of fighting, then (after a longer filler part where Juugo attacks Sasuke, which is cool because of feral Juugo and calm Sasuke) telling him that he’ll be his cage, which is a very selfless thing to say to someone he just met and whom he just needs to retrieve Itachi.
Team Taka moments not only are about amazing and interesting characters, but also about showing Sasuke’s personality in a way that Konoha didn’t highlight as much. In Konoha he wasn’t leading his team, unlike with Taka, and his leading style is really cool and fitting with his flexible, non-dominant/not assertive/passive, in a word, YIN personality (fight me) that doesn’t impose his will and always offers something in return before asking for something. It’s really entertaining to see him so aloof surrounded by Karin and Suigetsu’s bickering and Juugo’s bipolar personality, or to see him napping with them around, Juugo napping as well, Karin reading and Suigetsu flaunting his sword, and I could go on and on because even though I mostly focus on other things both on this blog and in my writing, I have a lot of headcanons about Team Taka that I try to add to my fics whenever I can, because they’re really important for Sasuke.
In short, Team Taka is the best team.

COMIC TEA PARTY- WEEK LONG BOOK CLUB START!
Hello and welcome everyone to Comic Tea Party’s Week Long Book Club~! This week we’ll be focusing on Missing Pieces by Christopher Demetriou (Writer) and Stella Violari (Artist)~! (https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/missing-pieces/list?title_no=192867)
You are free to read and comment about the comic all week at your own pace, so stop on by whenever it suits your schedule! Remember, though, that while we allow constructive criticism, our focus is to have fun and appreciate the comic. Below you will find four questions to get you started on the discussion. However, a new question will be posted and pinned everyday (between 12:01AM and 6AM PDT), so keep checking back for more! You have until November 3rd to tell us all your wonderful thoughts! With that established, let’s get going on the reading and the chatting!
QUESTION 1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it?
QUESTION 2. What are your thoughts on the story’s format of telling everything in a long flashback? In what ways do you think this helps with the blackouts and story’s end?
RebelVampire
QUESTION 3. At the moment, who is your favorite character? What about that character earns them this favor?
QUESTION 4. Why do you think Scott was seeing Laura everywhere? Additionally, what was he seeing? A ghost, an angel, or an illusion? What do you think the symbolic purpose was for the story?
RebelVampire
QUESTION 5. What has been your favorite illustration in the comic so far? What specifically about it do you like?
QUESTION 6. What do you think about the story’s themes regarding death changing one’s perspective on life? Why do you think that was the needed catalyst for Scott to mend his relationship with Marcus?
RebelVampire
1) My favorite scene in the comic is probably the one where ghost Laura realizes that she's dead. The emotions at that moment were unbelievably perfect, both between her and Scott. And like, the story was already sad enough. That really was a gut punch to find out that somehow, Laura never knew. It was trauma that hit really hard and I loved it for that. 2) Normally I'm skeptical of flashback stories, but I think in this case it really did aid how the story was delivered. Even without the blackouts, the format kind of allowed the story to skip around at a much faster pace than you would expect. Thus, despite being a drama, everything felt like it was always moving dramatically fast, even if technically only a few days passed in the course of the story. But I think when it came to the end, this is when the format really shined. Since at the end, we see that it was not just those 5 days where bad stuff happened and everyone moved on. The fact the end is older Scott really reflects just how his life instantly went to hell and changed forever never to be fixed. And I kind of think that captures how death feels sometimes. So in that way, having older Scott reflecting on everything offers a different perspective on life moving on than we otherwise would have gotten.
3) My favorite character is probably Scott. He's a really interesting character of contrasts. Has all the money and luck, but at the same time seems disconnected from it all. And ya know, there's the whole blackouts psychosis thing going on, which seeing him go through that is just overall an interesting journey. By the end, I was actually really upset along with him Laura was dead, cause I wanted Scott to be happy despite it all. But alas, it was not to be. 4) So while I call her ghost Laura, I am skeptical it was an actual ghost. Like I know Marcus said he could see her too, but everything is filtered through Scott's perspective. And well, Scott is the most unreliable narrator if I ever did see one. XD So I lean towards illusion. As for the symbolism, I do think she might have served as an important embodiment of acceptance. Cause while Scott seemed to accept she was gone, I really doubt he did, especially not in the first day or two. And I think Laura was the manifestation of that non-acceptance. Where despite logically Scott knew she was gone, his heart refused that Laura wasn't there as usual. Thus why Laura disappeared after she was buried. Cause burying someone kind of brings closure in certain ways (though not entirely). And with Laura buried, I think Scott finally took that final step towards accepting that she was gone, wasn't coming back, and that was that.
RebelVampire
5) My fave illustration so far is actually probably any landscape picture from the first episode https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/missing-pieces/ep-1-confessions/viewer?title_no=192867&episode_no=1 I'm always a sucker for landscapes, and flat out, I love the details on the mansion. Like that took a lot of effort to draw, but I am 100% sold on the design. Like there's even slight texturing on the walls and floors giving it character, and I just love that attention to detail. 6) This actually reminds me of a study that was done recently. Too lazy to find and link, but it talked about how our minds protect us by viewing death as something that only happens to "everybody else" but not ourselves. And while this study was focused on ourselves, I would argue this extends somewhat to the people around us. A lot of people just plain would rather pretend their family, friends, pets, and other loved ones are immune to death. And yet then it happens, and I think no matter who you are, it forces you to contend with that fact that 1) people are mortal and 2) life is never static and constantly changes. And I feel that's what the story shows with its themes. That even if we want things to be the same after someone close to us dies, it just cant be. And even if we don't want it to, the fact we have to change how we go about life is a driving force for changing one's perspective. Thus why it was the needed catalyst for Marcus and Scott. Until Laura died, both were static. There was no reason to change, and there was always the illusion there'd be time later to make amends, fight, etc. Whatever they wanted to do. But with Laura dying, whether they wanted to or not, they had to change, because their lives went from something that had Laura in it to lives that had no Laura.

QUESTION 7. Which characters do you enjoy seeing interact the most? What about their dynamic interests you?
QUESTION 8. Do you think Scott and David deserved their vengeance? Why or why not? What part of their vengeance made the most emotional impact for you? In the bigger picture of things, what do you think we can learn from the story’s themes of vengeance?
snuffysam
I think one interesting aspect of this series relates to a couple questions that have been asked so far - that death can have both positive and negative aspects. Like, Laura's death caused Marcus & Scott to reconcile. Marcus finally began to accept David. But... there's also the vengeance that consumed and quite literally broke Scott. David was never able to have a loving relationship because of the weight of his actions. Like, the story is facing "death can be a chance to move on and start anew" off against "it's impossible to truly move past the death of a loved one", and it's like... i'm not sure there's a correct answer here. Like obviously the stuff they did to Mike was over the top, but... Revenge!Scott & David were right in that they never would have been truly happy had Mike actually escaped. Perhaps the answer lies in some middle ground, but, like... if they had captured Mike and turned him over to the police before evidence came in, would that have been right? And, like, what if Mike had just spent life in prison? Would they feel that justice had truly been served, and be able to move on with their lives? Or would Scott's desire for vengeance keep bubbling up regardless? Is there any scenario where David has a happy life with Nathan, or was that option taken away the moment Laura was killed?
RebelVampire
QUESTION 9. What sorts of art or story details have you noticed in the way the comic is crafted that you think deserves attention?
QUESTION 10. What do you think the blackouts say about who Scott is? Is it split personalities, parts of one whole person, or something else? Why do you think Scott’s tale of vengeance features this, and what does it say about people in general?
RebelVampire
@snuffysam I love that analysis of the story. It really is a story of contrasts about how death can be a new start but also potentially something you never get past. Although I would like to say that I think David could've had the chance. Even Scott said David wouldn't have gone along with it had they not been drunk. And I kind of believe him when they said that. I easily think there's a parallel world where David noped out, had a good life with Nathan, and Revenge!Scott killed Mike and went to jail or something like that. Which I am saying I don't think the opposite is true; that there's a scenario where Scott could've been happy and moved on. Cause the unfortunate thing about death, is you cant hit ctrl z on it. I don't think Scott could ever forgive Mike ever and no justice would ever be good enough.
RebelVampire
7) I think I enjoyed seeing David and Scott interacting the most. I kind of like all these little hints about the end in the way David interacts with Scott. And yet a lot of it just comes off as David just being kind of weird. And then the whole end just adds so much more weight to their interactions, that it's really worth a second read to just soak in everything that was a red flag. 8) I don't think Scott and David deserved their vengeance, but I'm also not one big on vengeance. Cause sure, Mike is dead and gone. But both of their lives were eternally ruined. It didn't help put Laura to rest (as she already moved on), it didn't help make Scott happier (as he completely broke himself, and it didn't help make David happier (as he lived with guilt forever). So in the end, they gained nothing, and someone else was added to the dead pile for that nothing. And additionally, because Mike wasn't brought to justice through the proper channels, nothing was learned by anybody else in society about how killing is bad and don't do it. And basically, yeah. For me those are the things we should learn. Vengeance is temporary satisfaction. It doesn't fix shit and just leaves everyone worse off. As far as the emotional impact, it was really the whole package and probably the conclusion. Cause again, they broke themselves for this. And I think to a degree, that's the saddest part. That while they could've learned to live with Laura's death, it's the other stuff that killed their souls.
RebelVampire
9) I love the details in the dialogue. To pull off the ending it did, the story really needed tight control, especially with David. And I love how it was executed. There was always that fine line between sensing something is wrong but also kind of wondering if you're being paranoid along with Scott or something. And I love all those little hints and pullbacks to keep you guessing. 10) If you ever listen to people who have killed spontaneously out of rage, you'll often hear them describe it kind of as a blackout. Some barely even remember doing the crime, and all they remember is the feeling of white hot rage. For me, this story somewhat parallels that. And in essence, all they say about who Scott is is that he's an angry person upset over the death of his wife. And I think that necessitated the formation of split personalities, as while not every case, there are cases where they form as a self defense mechanism. So while the first blackout was probably rage, the subsequent blackouts were a split personality thing protecting his mind from dealing with the debate about feeling justified vs. feeling guilty. As for what this tale says about people in general, I think it's that we all have the capacity to make poor choices and kill others. Like even if were nice people who give to charity, we all have the capacity for evil. And that sometimes this is good to remember, cause it reminds us to think our actions through before we act on emotional impulses and do stuff we can never take back.
Copper Mouflon
Hey, writer here. Been watching all the analysis you've done so far and just wanted to chime in and say omg!!! I absolutely love everything you've said! Both of you are right about what you've said. @snuffysam we did indeed not want to offer an answer to the questions posed. Just have the two "sides" collide and let the audience decide after they witness the outcome. @RebelVampire I love how you analyze the story and spot both the intentions and the hard work it took for us to achieve this end result! Makes me happy and proud to see people understanding all the messages and all the stuff between the lines and realizing there were clues throughout the story about the conclusion. I wanted this story to be one that as soon as you read it once you would want to go back and reread it this time knowing how it ends and seeing all the subtle clues we dropped in various episodes. If you want to ask me anything feel free! I thoroughly enjoyed all you've said so far. :D(edited)
RebelVampire
QUESTION 11. What do you think are this particular comic’s strengths? What do you think makes this comic unique? Please elaborate.
QUESTION 12. Given the ending, do you think the righteous side of Scott will ever prevail and turn himself in? Additionally, why do you feel that side of Scott is getting stronger compared to his vengeful side that remembers events?
RebelVampire
QUESTION 13. Do you have any final thoughts to share overall about the comic now that it's finished? QUESTION 14. Overall, how has the story impacted you, whether emotionally, the way you view something about life, or the way stories are crafted? In other words, what will stick with you about this story?
RebelVampire
11) I think the comic's strength is just in how the story is told. I've talked about this to death, probably, but the small hints in foreshadowing and everything really make for great twists. Cause its the kind of twists where thinking back it's so obviously but it's handled so well that in the moment, you cant really see it. And those sorts of twists are hard to pull off. 12) Given Scott's age, I don't think so. I think Scott is likely to die before his non-revenge side manages to gain control and stay in control. Or, optionally, by that point people will just think he's so old he's gone senile and everyone will brush it off as some old man just having memory issues. As for why the non-revenge side is getting stronger, I think it actually has a lot to do with Scott's age. I'm gonna trigger warning here for anyone who feels uncomfortable talking about mortality. Skip this last bit if need be. As we get older, we're faced more and more with the fact of our own mortality. While we can ignore it, the older we get, the less time there is. And once you start hitting close to the average lifespan age, the more you realize that every year you're not dead is kind of a miracle. But that being said, this sort of stuff often makes us think back on life and reflect on whether we lived a good life or not. And I kind of feel like that's what's happening to Scott. He's reflecting and afraid he didn't live a good life after all and that if there are no consequences now, if there is an afterlife, there could be consequences there. So I think those fears are kind of overriding the vengeance side as the end draws near.
RebelVampire
13) My final thoughts are just that I hope more people read it. It is certainly mature with lots of dark themes, but the story is woven together really well and the narrative is kept super tight. Every scene has a purpose, and the comic is just the right length to keep you invested without dragging you along drama after drama. 14) I think what will stick with me the most is the blackouts. How people's brains protect them from themselves is not something I always think about enough. And yet here it was used to beautifully to create not only great themes of revenge, but also create a good twist ending. This is definitely something I'll remember for my own work. This story is a good example of how we can be our own worst enemy and flat out not realize that cause our brains don't let us. I think this is also something that will stick with me because, honestly, that's a little horrifying too. We always want to believe that we're in control of our minds, but that just is not the case all the time. So there's a lot that could be done with these ideas.

Graphic Novel Converted I am going to preface this review by saying that I have a general disdain for graphic novels. There was a time that I would never elect to read one of my own volition. That all changed when I was assigned Maus for an English class. Upon hearing that our syllabus included a graphic novel, I groaned in tacit protest. I read both volumes of Maus cover to cover before the assigned completion date, and was very moved by the story, which is about a son trying to understand his Holocaust-survivor father. There are no images of humans in this book--the Jews are portrayed as mice, the Nazis as cats, and the Poles as pigs. The protagonist has always felt a void between he and his father, but develops some understanding and compassion as he begins interviewing him about his experiences in the Holocaust. In terms of Holocaust literature, I would deem this a "must-read". Go to Amazon
Hardcover Includes Parts I and II Browsing through the reviews and comments about Maus, I saw that there was some question as to whether the hardcover edition comprised Parts I and II. This is understandable because the product is listed in Amazon as "The Complete Maus: A Survivor's Tale (No 1)," which seems contradictory. Go to Amazon
A classic work of 20th century literature. I don't think I can add much that has not already been written in innumerable books, articles, journals, blogs, and anywhere that discusses literature and, specifically, graphic novels. This one may not appeal to the strictly comic book crowd seeking the Supermans, Avengers, etc., genre. This, of course, is nothing like those. This is a work of literature that (amazingly for a graphic novel) won the Pulitzer Prize. It's a must have for any serious graphic novel fan and I can recommend (and have recommended) it to my friends who aren't at all into comics, but are serious literature buffs. The social commentary and other aspects of this work must be read and seen to be appreciated, and I don't think my best efforts at providing an analysis here, in such a short space, would add anything of real value - I will leave that to the serious critics of literature and students of the graphic novel. What I can say is this: Maus left a permanent and valuable impression on me, even in the first reading many years ago. And it continues to do so today. Go to Amazon
A Splendid Novel! Maus is a graphic novel - that is, a novel done in cartoons, written by the son of a Holocaust survivor. It won the Pulitzer Prize in 1992. My husband and I had never read this book - never even known about it. It was quite a discovery! We bought the two book set, which proved to be a fine one. If I could afford to do so, I would send a free copy to every denier of the Holocaust. Amazon, please advertise this book more widely. There is an old and a new generation out there who need to read it! Go to Amazon
Must Read for All Intelligent People Fascinating book! I ordered this for my 14 year old grandson, who was thrilled later to find that he would be studying it this year in school. I also read it and so did my daughter. I know a lot about Hitler's concentration camps, but it was interesting to read about it from a first hand perspective. Because of it's format, it was, for the most part, light reading; but if you have any kind of a brain, you found yourself sitting back and absorbing the consequences and what was really going on. Then, it became much more personal. Survival, at any cost, became the goal for most people, and people who were there seemed to forgive a lot, because they realized, the consequences of not doing everything you could to survive. It's quite a profound piece of work, done in a very unconventional manner! Go to Amazon
He mixes the two wonderfully, and I was equally invested in both sides ... As the child of a Holocaust survivor, Art Spiegelman has grown up hearing the terrors of WWII and seen the effects buried deep in his parents’ everyday lives. Now, as a grown man, he decides to record the story of his father’s survival from Poland to Auschwitz and recreate it in graphic novel form. His father, Vladek, recounts his years in Poland, the meeting his wife, Anja, and the growing tension in his town until finally, all the Jews are removed from the city and into work camps. Art learns that often his father’s survival can be attributed to luck more than anything else. As he becomes more involved with his father’s story and thoughts of the Holocaust, Art finds it increasingly difficult to recreate such awful events and falls into depression. In this way, Maus tells two simultaneous stories: the survival of Vladek, and Art coming to terms with the horrors of what his father experienced. Go to Amazon
Wonderful story of the true atrocities of the Holocaust. Real One of the best comics I have ever read ok Five Stars Five Stars Three Stars Five Stars Five Stars Excellent
