sometimes I think of all the on-the-surface warm, well-meaning but deeply ineffectual advice and attention john gives harrow through harrow the ninth (make some soup and get some sleep! get a hobby! don't be so hard on yourself! self care harrow! as long as I need take no actual responsibility in this relationship whatsoever I would have loved to be your dad!) set up against the stark truth that with his other hand he has been staging her attempted horrific murder again and again and again like a living nightmare on the logic that it will 'put her down or fix her'. and then I find that I wish there is a hell. a special hell where twitch streamers turned necromantic death emperors go
#the locked tomb#harrowhark nonagesimus#john gaius#harrow the ninth#this is why I don't buy john as misunderstood and initially well-meaning AT ALL#this is a pattern you see with him again and again and again -- right down to his interpersonal relationships#(and indeed it's in the more grounded interpersonal relationships you can most clearly see him as he is I think#the fantasy death empire of a thousand years doesn't register quite as viscerally because it's like. heightened; not quite real#but the emotional violence and manipulation that surrounds him? oh boy that is EXTREMELY real and scarily well-observed)#there's a premeditation to so much of what he does (contracts with planets that only end 'in the event of the emperor's death' anyone?#yeah john we get it you're hilarious and I wish you weren't)#the greatest trick john ever pulled was making anyone think he's just a lil guy. what does he know he's only god#when you first read the book the complete callousness of the other adults is so horrible that john seems like an oasis of care#(though you start to get this uneasy feeling when that care never seems to translate to like... relief or soothing or resolution)#and it makes it feel almost obscene when you find out what's actually going on#it's the mercy & augustine enabler hour but at least they're completely honest in their cruelty there#while john is -- well he sure is being john huh#this is just me being angry with him btw philosophically I don't think this is how the story will or should end#(with john slam dunked right into hell that is)#it's just... harrow is so vulnerable. and what he does to her is so insidious and fucked up#john is very deeply human. unfortunately the capacity to quite simply suck so much is deeply human too

Tommy’s (and Tubbo’s) Character /rp /dSMP
This is a bit of a rant so like be warned. I have nothing against any CCs mentioned in this, this is all roleplay, lighthearted, and just a bit of fun analysis. Mostly this is a ramble about how I see certain people analysing Tommy’s character on tumblr and twt, and why I think they’re wrong. This isn’t directed at anyone specific, just a trend I’ve been seeing that kinda irks me. I don’t dislike the fandom, just a few ‘takes’ have been really weird for me.
TW for everything below: analysing the effects of trauma, abuse, manipulation, gaslighting, and lack of therapy.
I’m not really liking how victim-blamey everyone is getting currently in the dSMP, both in fandom and canon. In canon with certain characters but especially in fan analysis posts and especially about Tommy and Tubbo. People legitimately celebrating that Tommy might start ‘apologising’ for his actions more and 'growing as a person' somehow don’t realise that hes been made this way through a tonne of negative reinforcement. abuse, and gaslighting. And people blaming Tubbo for actions he had no choice in, rather than the actions he did choose.
Currently, as I see it, Tommy is so scared that anyone would find a reason to be pissed off at him that his fighting spirit has been completely crushed. He was exiled and abused when he should have been helped and given an understanding figure to guide him and teach him how to deal with things non-violently. In everyone’s eyes, the problem was that Tommy was creating violence with no real reason, acting recklessly and commiting crimes. Tubbo, having made him a part of his cabinet, knew that this would only harm the country. So instead of talking to him reasonably, he got angry, put him on trial, and punished him with the logbook (humiliating him by making him report back to Fundy, which he obviously hated). Tommy’s actions were, of course, bad, but did he deserve everyone ganging up on him? No. Especially when Tubbo was supposed to be in his corner, helping him out like he always said he would (”It’s me and you vs Dream” etc). This is the first betrayal of trust from Tommy’s POV. He doesn’t understand what he did wrong to its full extent, and no one can explain it to him.
However, Tubbo was under a lot of pressure from Dream and George, and he’s a literal child President, so his ‘safety over friendship’ actions are understandable. I don’t believe Tubbo is solely to blame for anything he’s done in season 2, but it can’t all be excused. If you are to blame Tommy for his recklessness, you have to blame Tubbo, at least partially, for his disregard for Tommy’s feelings and mental state. There were other ways to go about the entire thing, including the trial, which was just horrible to watch, and agreeing to give Dream the disc, something Tommy gave him in pure confidence that it would be safe with Tubbo. Yikes moment.
At that time, Tubbo knew a lot of things about Tommy. In fact, he probably knew the most about Tommy out of anyone on the server. He knew the discs were incredibly important and a comfort item for Tommy. He knew Tommy had trauma from being exiled in the past. He knew Tommy was abused, or at least manipulated by Wilbur, in addition to growing up in war. Wilbur once told Tommy to stop being reckless, and Tommy listened, changing his attitude because he looked up to Wilbur so much. Then Wilbur said ‘let’s be the bad guys’ and stopped trying to mentor Tommy. There’s a conflict here, because Tommy was told by Wilbur that he wasn’t good enough to be President (links to the idea of ‘not being strong enough’) but he knows that Wilbur was a bad person. But Tommy is never given the chance to reconsile his feelings surrounding Wilbur, both because of Ghostbur and because of the conflict he starts with George. So he is harbouring a mixture of emotions about his mentor and brother, not understanding how to untangle the ‘real Tommy’ from the manipulated boy he became.
What was going through his head when he stole from George and griefed him? Perhaps the thought that he needed to show he was still the same old Tommy. Maybe the need to ‘prove himself’ as a strong person? It could have just been an outlet for his trauma. He’s grown up in a world where everyone is either a friend or an enemy. George isn’t a friend. How was he supposed to know that hurting him was bad?
Tubbo was pressured into the actions he took against Tommy, but he was pressured far too easily. There is no moment where Tubbo turns to Tommy and makes sure he’s okay, he views him as ‘selfish’ and overdramatic, and sees his actions that way. This makes sense from Tubbo’s POV, he’s struggling to be President in ways that Wilbur *knew* he would, but in Tommy’s eyes this is the worst betrayal he’s ever known. The moment Tubbo (rightfully, but poorly executed) defies Tommy’s plan to hire Technoblade (ahem, seeing Techno as a weapon again) and exiles Tommy is the moment their friendship shatters. They’re two people who don’t understand each other anymore. Two people who are technically in the right, but only hurt each other.
What Tommy needed was a therapist, instead he had Dream, who put out the fire of rebellion that made him so strong, and Techno, who was trying to help but doing it in the wrong way.
People see tommy's change post-exile as a good thing because he's not as rebellious anymore and he’s thinking things through a lot before he does them, but they will soon realise that his rebellion was one of his best traits and the fact that no one saw it as anything but a problem really shows. He now second-guesses himself so much and is so scared of being wrong that everything seems too difficult and too dangerous. Every trait can have a positive and negative side. Tommy's defiant nature would have made him the perfect negotiator with a little practise. In fact, he had plenty of good ideas before he was exiled (using spirit against Dream, though it didnt work in the end, for example). The negative side of this was recklessness and the desire to cause problems on purpose, but what he needed was a friend (looking at you Tubbo) who understood that hes been through several wars, was manipulated by Wilbur, and hasnt known a time of peace where everyone who wasnt on his side was out to kill him. Now that ‘fight’ is gone he's just become easier to manipulate.
He may be getting better (see: telling Dream to go fuck himself) but there hasn't been any long-term growth because he was never told what kind of rebellion was good and what was bad. He was just told it was all bad. By Dream (and by Tubbo). Who he doesn't trust. So he's just going to revert back to his old ways because no one told him what was bad in a way that didn't make him feel like everyone was against him. Dream is the enemy (though Tommy’s feelings towards him are complicated, they make his brain go all ‘flippy floppy’) and Dream told him that rebellion was bad, so rebellion must be good always, right?
And then there's Techno. Techno did nothing wrong except for when he did. Techno is 100% right except for when he isn’t. He doesn't understand Tommy because Tommy was never fully open about what Dream had done and how it affected him. That's not Tommys fault though, because who the fuck openly talks about their trauma? So neither of them are to blame for pretty much anything up until the confrontation at the community house.
However, Techno's methods and ideology were not what Tommy needed. He was thrown from one extreme to another over and over again, from complete subservience to total rebellion. Neither of these inforce good attitudes in Tommy. One, as stated before, makes it so that he will regain his negative traits again. The other reinforces those violent traits as good, just like Wilbur did. The only difference is that Techno had good intentions, he wasnt trying to use Tommy, which is why he feels so used when Tommy 'betrays' him (Techno doesnt realise that he himself betrayed Tommy by teaming with Dream, he sees it more as a transaction than a personal thing). Techno feels so hurt by Tommy ‘viewing him as a weapon’ that he goes on with his no-mercy attack, completely dropping Tommy at his lowest point.
Tommy says he doesn't want to be like everyone he's hated. In fact, he say's he is 'worse' than all the villains. This is very obviously untrue, though he was clearly going down a dangerous path with Techno's influence (see: bullying Fundy, spawning wither, kidnapping Connor, and saying that the discs are more important than Tubbo, more on that later). He's not a villain but who exactly has said he's not a villain. Dream? Techno? Neither of them can be trusted in his eyes. They say he's a good guy, Wilbur wanted to be the bad guy, who's right? He doesn't know. He has a crisis of morality.
And? Some people want to point at that and say 'aha! Character development! He's finally realising his actions have a negative affect on others!' OH GOD NO??? He's a *child* who thinks that he is worse than his abuser. Does that sound like positive character growth to you?
Lastly, the discs. We know theyre a comfort item blahblahblah. He hates himself for valuing them more than he values Tubbo. He's literally innocent in this. He’s been horribly manipulated by Dream to believe that the discs are worth anything. Theyre really not worth anything if they are being used as tools rather than, yknow, discs. My poor boy. He doesnt trust people, so what can he trust? The discs. But then he says it out loud and realises he misses Tubbo and he wants to be with his best friend again and and and WAHHHH. This also isnt really character growth its just fucking sad leave me alone.
Anyways what the fuck guys. @ Niki and Jack what the fuck. Yeah we get it it’s miscommunication but wtf. Kinda worried that the actual lore will make Niki and Jack’s hatred of Tommy justified in some way and take on a big victim-blamey vibe, but I’m hoping that everyone is smart enough to not do that. I cannot praise Tommy enough for how he’s portrayed his character. I’m currently hoping that he himself understands the true complexity of it all. I’m sure he does.
Mostly though im actually pissed off at all the people praising tommy's character for 'maturing' when hes literally just got trauma. Nice one, tumblr and twt users. Thanks. Great job. He hasnt 'learnt his lesson', he’s traumatised. What the fuck.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk, leave your responses in the reblogs and comments.

DAEMON IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› AELIUS SUNG › 24 YEARS OLD › DARK AURA MANIPULATION › 5 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
Dark Aura Manipulation gives the user the ability to control the aura that has been tainted by dark forces or dark energy. The users gain incredible dark powers to use to their command.
STRENGTHS
Dark Aura Manipulation: (+) Aelius can manipulate the aura around himself, or others that has been touched by evil or dark forces or negative emotions. (+) The aura has no specific colour, it can be any colour. Because of this, it can offer Aelius a lot of power.
Dark Energy Manipulation: (+) Aelius can use his aura to gain powers from malicious forces, like demons or aliens and use it for instance in battles.
Indomitable Will: (+) Because of his aura, Aelius possesses a supernatural willpower, and could resist attacks and temptation coming from the outside.
Negative Emotion Empowerment: (+) Negative emotions are very important. The stronger, and longer they last, the more power Aelius gains. Emotions like anger, sadness, envy and so on are enhanced and they allow Aelius to last longer in battle.
WEAKNESSES
Dark Aura Manipulation: (-) The dark aura induces certain negative emotions on Aelius, which he supresses. These emotions tend to become gradually harder to control, so he can snap and put himself or others in danger. (-) People surrounded by a positive aura weaken him and forces him to rely on his own emotions, which are very chaotic to begin with, therefore harder to use. (-) The colourless aura loses the benefits other auras have. It solely relies on Aelius’ ability to collect dark energy. (-) If it changes its colour, it reboots. In other words, it becomes clumsy, unstable and very annoying.
Dark Energy Manipulation: (-) Cosmic forces with dark energy are incredibly violent and hard to control. (-) They could potentially consume Aelius’s energy/aura, or take over his entire body.
Indomitable Will: (-) Although he has willpower, his body is not as resistant as it seems. If tortured for too long, or seriously harmed, he could have moments of weakness. (-) His willpower has a specific direction: destruction. This ability does not work on people with positive powers, or people with angelic powers.
Negative Emotion Empowerment: (-) Although it has its benefits, the income of emotions is simply overwhelming. After a battle, Aelius would feel absolutely drained and would need quite some time to recover (-) This ability can easily backfire, and knock him unconscious before he finishes the battle.
Mental corruption: (-) Even if Aelius does not lose his sanity or force of will, he becomes gradually more dependent on the dark emotions. The aura then slowly takes control of his actions and moral thoughts, leaving him a mere body of destruction with no redeemable qualities. It is, therefore, extremely tricky to control, and use.
ORIGINS
tw: mature language, violence, mentions of death/murder and sexual abuse
The warmth of May and beauty of spring bore a magnificent gift they did not want. The poor slut, and coward misogynist left the baby crying on the streets. The authorities were quick to give him away too, to an orphanage. And then, he kept on being passed over, like a toy nobody wanted. There was something peculiar about him, and they could feel it. They were almost afraid—he called them cowards. He never quite understood the effect his energy had on people. All he knew were colours, so he stuck to that.
A name. Such beauty in a simple thing. An identity, the feeling that you belong to the universe, that you are wanted. He did not have a name, and people around him did not seem to mind calling him it. Or pointing an accusatory finger at him whenever he made a mistake. He was two years old, for fuck’s sake. They could care less, but he—it is safe to say he never forgot. He broke a vase, a bloody vase. And they held it over his head, they let him cut himself with the broken pieces. Remember, mortals. It is your fault. And his vengeance came with a handsome face, and a darkened soul.
At last, a woman felt pity for him, and adopted him—but she loved her designer clothes more. She moved to the United Kingdom almost immediately after the adoption was finalised, and dragged her new three year old along. She insisted on speaking English only with him—her charity project—so he grew estranged from his own mother tongue. Only later, she accepted to teach him some Korean, and let him take private lessons. She was devious, perhaps the trigger to his predisposition. She took a liking in touching him, when he was old enough to respond. That is only when she was not too busy touching their pool boy. But that is beside the point.
He did not have a bloody name until the age of five, he was nobody’s. And he was forced to grow up faster than other children. There were many things wrong with the little boy, one was his incredible talent in art—they called it an abomination, because they have not seen it in centuries. For him, it was a superpower, the only thing that made him feel special. This is what he used to call his ability to see colours people did not. The ability to see everyone in a different colour, it was magnificent. The wonderful strings of blues and purples, glowing radiance of yellow and protruding red. He could live like this forever.
His ‘mother’ could care less, but despite her ignorance, she let him explore art in its finest. He made art his escape room. Obviously, she had to invade all portraits, be painted in all colours and poses—nude, half-nude, perhaps a little bit of sexual intercourse for mister-I-do-not-give-a-shit. She never learnt his name, she called him mi amour. But he—he did find himself a name. He stumbled upon the name Aelius when he was cleaning the shelves. It was engraved on the furniture. He liked it, so it was his. Oh, but how ironical it was. He still finds it quite amusing being called the sun, when he lives to destroy it. Sung was reminiscent of his origins, it simply enhanced his first name. She signed the papers, so he could not complain too much.
But sex is better served cold. Aelius surrounded himself with strange teenagers, who liked peculiar things. Like watching people die, or have unprotected sex. The latter being most distasteful in Aelius’ opinion. But murder, such beauty in disguise. Painted in grey green, with splotches of lily pad. His colours, his demise. He was eight when he witnessed his first murder. One of his peers was stabbed next to him. He was absorbed by the blood, he touched it. Perhaps that is why he was spared. Let us be real, he was spared because he created a shadow that wrapped around the offender’s neck—his neck was bloody pretty dangling. It was his first taste of power, and he became obsessed with it. So obsessed, that he let it absorb him in the process. He became self-assured, selfish, and simply evil.
But every villain has his redemption act, you say. Aelius’ path to destruction did not end at eight, no. He fell in love with the darkness that made him who he is. So in love, he had to inflict it on others. He was their guide to destruction, and when he had them, he created an army. Metaphorically speaking, because he was a painful loner. Him, art and darkness—the only trio that worked for him. He would not give it away, but would indulge in everything it has to offer. When he turned fifteen—bloke, such a great time—he offered this older womansomething she never had. Yes, money. He made her do it, kill. Taking a life was less fun, but having others do it—orgasmic.
He lived in London until he turned eighteen, changing schools for his mother’s entertainment. He did not stop his influence, using the shitload of money his mother had for his own gain. His only salvation was art, and his thirst for knowledge. Yes, he was quite a nerd but he did not show it. He learnt a lot, and worked hard for himself. But after eighteen, he had to go. Someone saw him using his special ability. He knew that he has to move away, but where to? He was happy to live home, but he could not find a new home—Paris was stricterwith powers, he was almost caught twice.
After a few months, he decided to go back to South Korea. It is where he invented his origin story. He imagined his parents, and his original name. He lived with that knowledge for so long, that he actually started believing it. However, he did not change his name. Instead, he lived in Seoul for two months as Aelius. That is until he saw two people use unusual supernatural powers. They panicked, and ran away, mumbling about an Island, how they should have not left, and so on. Naturally, Aelius followed them around for weeks. At last, they went back to this Island. And so Aelius discovered the Academy, a place that taught him control, a place for people like him. A place without careless mothers. A place he could call home.
He has been in the Academy for five years now, and he has had a blast. He made sure his presence was known, but kept his reputation in check. However, he did enjoy his fair share of mental breakdowns, healing gone wrong, some attacks and pain. All making his victims weaker, but not on the verge of suicide, like some humans. A lot more enjoyable if you ask him. He never bought the hero act, so he did not pretend to be one. He remained impartial, like a daemon, like a puppeteer. If you ask him, there is no other suitable job for him.

YOU ALREADY KNOW WHY I'M HERE LMAO ok so for ask meme: 7, 14, 44 for Alexis; 3, 21, 36 for Nysaris; aaand 4, 21, 45 for Idal'ia :3c
THANK YOUUUUUUU wow yes i am so here for these (*⁰▿⁰*) 💕💕💕
Alexis!
7. What feature (physical or otherwise) do they hate most about themselves?
Just for a fun-tidbit! Even before dying he had like, generic self-esteem hated his looks/avoided pictures etc problems :,DBUT HEY CURRENT STATE oh one hundred percent any of the visible wounds he has, PARTICULARLY any of the stitched up wounds. Which probably wouldn’t be as big of a deal to him if they’d ever…go away. But they’re permanent. The stitches cannot come out (or well. They can but that looks /worse/). And they’re a permanent reminder that he died and a dead (hehe) giveaway he is a returned person. (On the flipside, someone giving attention to his stitches in a loving way? He’ll be anxious as fuck at first but if it continues oh boy you own his fucking heart…though hey this can be used against him for sure.)
14. Are they prone to outbursts (of violence, extreme emotion… exc… )?
Extreme emotion yeah. Like. Not…random outbursts but, it tends to happen whenever he thinks he’s in a situation he doesn’t deserve. You’re being too nice to me, I don’t deserve to be in this relationship with you, you shouldn’t have gotten me this … and so on. Is this incredibly self-destructive? Yup. He even has awareness but just, cannot stop himself from like, purposely doing something emotional/uncalled for (very rarely violent but like could happen) when he feels like he shouldn’t be happy (which is also a Problem)
44. What’s one thing they wish they could do more often, but can’t?
See their family! And the thing is there isn’t actually anything stopping him other than himself (but I’m counting it for “can’t” because it ties into the whole place where he is as a person right now, he cannot being himself to do that). He loves them, but didn’t want them to deal with the stigma of having a returned person in their family so he just…left. And knows it’s not the ideal situation and knows they’re probably worried about it but surely him being away is just better for them right? (No. You fuckin moron.)
Nysaris!
3. What is the worst pain they’ve ever experienced?
HM I was thinking about how painful I wanted to make this, but I have decided to go with the more dramatic/angst route heck yeah. Which means, the worst pain he ever has was getting a chunk of his tail carved out by a djinn with a sharp knife. Along with like, having been young enough at the time to know the djinn were a threat but like not fully understanding why or more specifically understanding why anyone would be so cruel to do something like that for seemingly no reason. (Not to mention permanent fear of he got away alive…most merfolk Don’t from that situation)
21. What is something that causes them great anxiety?
Related to the last question. Being surrounded by djinn. 8)) Oh does that happen to be his life right now? YUP IT SURE IS. Basically, think of any predator/prey relationship out there and imagine a member of the prey group living SURROUNDED by their main natural predator AT ALL TIMES with the only person they can even kind of trust also their predator. :,D it is basically constant “flight” response going off in his brain at all times (Granted they’re gonna switch places eventually but until then it’s half a year of this …though of course, maybe that “constant” flight response is vanishing more and more around his husband …hehe ).
36. Are they in control of their emotions, or are their emotions in control of them?
All of these questions tie together very nicely for Nysaris and I DIG IT. Because he’s definitely in control of his emotions. Back to the situation he’s in, being married to a djinn and living in their kingdom for half a year he basically has to be in control or he WILL DIE. BOTH of them would die or at last suffer SEVERE CONSEQUENCES for not appearing as the perfect couple, the symbol of peace for their people. So Nysaris is in control and manipulating his emotions to best fit any situation. Feeling scared? Focus that into concentration of not breaking your mask. Feeling angry? Turn that into spite and prove your husband wrong. Feeling aggravated? Put on a smile and be just as fucking aggravating right back. (Starting to feel amicable towards your husband? Starting to develop actual emotional attachment? OH NO THOSE GET SHOVED AWAY AND IGNORED LMAO)
Idal’ia!
4. Describe their worst nightmare.
Having one of her friends or family members die because she feels like she should ALWAYS be there to protect them (which wow I am definitely going to use the beginning of the Bounty Hunters storyline to say yeah THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED). And also it’s not just losing a friend but less … heroic, is that she is pretty conceited and full of herself re: her fighting skills (which like not as me playing her bc sorry how do games but in her canon HAS REASON TO BE) so also someone dying who she is supposed to protect is like an insult to her skills :,D
21. What is something that causes them great anxiety?
FRIENDS/FAMILY BEING IN DANGER and wow with Alunera being a member of the Intelligence SHE’S PROBABLY PRETTY WORRIED ABOUT HER ALL THE DAMN TIMEAlso of course worries about Mako a lot THIS IDIOT CHILD SHE RELUCTANTLY ADOPTS
45. What is the emotion they most commonly experience?
HM does battle-frenzy count as an emotion?? Because it’s probably that like the thrill of the fight, the rush of taking down her enemies and pushing herself to her limits to prove her strength. She gets real into fighting. (she probably gets real turned on by fighting LET’S BE REAL she is THAT type)

Gale Weathers (Scream): ENTJ
Tumblr media
Dominant Extroverted Thinking [Te]: Gale strives to be in control of her external world and is extremely focused on her career. She will do whatever it takes to be on top and doesn’t care what she has to do, as long as it brings her success, sells books, and puts her in the spotlight. Gale always has a plan and knows exactly what she needs to do to get the outcome she desires. Her reason for being a journalist isn’t to help people or make a difference in the world – she’s in it for the money, the fame, and the recognition. Gale is blunt, direct, and businesslike. She gets straight to the point and doesn’t usually bother with pleasantries. Gale is always “on.” She is comfortable with giving orders and has no problem taking control of situations. She wants to have the inside scoop in case something happens at Stu Macher’s party, so she stakes the place out, finds herself an in, and plants a camera so she can keep an eye on everything that happens. Gale doesn’t let her emotions influence her decisions and doesn’t mind hurting people if it benefits her. Gale is a very logical, strategic thinker. She is the only reporter who thinks to try the back door of the police station in order to get an interview with Sidney. Gale is bossy and impatient, often blowing people off or speaking to them in a cold, nasty manner if they get in her way, or if she has no use for them. Gale’s process is usually very methodical. When she wants to investigate the murders at Sunrise Studios, she decides to visit the archives and get information about Maureen there. She knows exactly who to get her intel from and how to acquire it.
Tumblr media
Auxiliary Introverted Intuition [Ni]: Everything Gale does is to further her own agenda and get her to where she wants to be in life and she is relentless when she’s in pursuit of a story (or trying to get to catch a killer). She has big dreams. She wants to win the Pulitzer and become a bestselling author. Gale has very good instincts. She doesn’t need to see something to believe it. She knows that Cotton is innocent and Maureen Prescott’s real killer is still out there somewhere. Someone else killed Maureen, got blood on Cotton’s coat, and planted it in his car. It was a frame job. She never wavers in this belief and is determined to prove it to the world. And although she’s insensitive in her tactics, she’s right. In a room full of cops, Gale is the only one to see that the killer at Windsor College is murdering people who represent the victims of the Woodsboro murders. She thinks to ask about Cici Cooper’s real name, and immediately makes the connection to Casey Becker. Gale is the one who has the idea to go through all of the footage Joel shot to see if they can find someone who is always nearby in order to narrow down possible suspects. Gale is a skilled manipulator and knows what strings to pull to get people to do what she needs them to do. She plays on Dewey’s crush in order to get him to clue her on what’s going on with the murders and plays on his affections, which gets him to bring her into the party at Stu’s house. After seeing the photos of Maureen Prescott that the killer is leaving behind, Gale wonders about her age at the time, and is the only one to consider why the killer is leaving photos from that specific period in her life, leading to the discovery that she once worked as an actress at Sunrise Studios. She also immediately rules Milton out as a suspect, even though Jennifer insists they should pursue him. However, Gale’s claim that he’s a pervert and not a killer turns out to be correct.
Tumblr media
Tertiary Extroverted Sensing [Se]: Gale wants to be in the thick of the action. She doesn’t just want to report the news. She wants to be part of it. Gale enjoys being able to give eyewitness accounts and wants to be the news. Gale doesn’t mind putting herself in dangerous situations in order to get her story. She has no problem taking risks and getting her hands dirty. She is incredibly opportunistic and uses her resources effectively. She’s plenty capable of improvising in the moment as new information comes to light. Gale thinks quickly on her feet and is able to alter her plans when necessary. Gale is extremely aware of her physical surroundings and is pretty good at remaining alert at all times. She uses whatever is available in her environment to fight the killer, such as hitting him with whatever object is nearby (such as a telephone) or knocking over a ladder to block the door from opening. After Mrs. Loomis shoots Mickey, Gale immediately attempts to rush over and grab Mickey’s gun, but unfortunately Mrs. Loomis is quicker and shoots her before she can get it.
Tumblr media
Inferior Introverted Feeling [Fi]: Making friends isn’t Gale’s priority. She doesn’t have time to engage in small talk, which is evident from her first exchange with “Debbie Salt.” Gale often lacks compassion and empathy, and often forgets to treat people like human beings. She doesn’t care about making friends and has a habit of being rude in her one-on-one encounters. Gale lacks morality and there is very little that she’s unwilling to do in order to get what she wants. Although Gale doesn’t typically care who she offends, she does care about the people who have gained her respect. Even though she reduces Dewey to a punchline in her book, she feels bad that she hurt him and apologizes to him when they meet again. Her career is a top concern, but she does want to help Sidney, too. It’s hard for her to put anyone or anything before her job, which is the reason behind most of her fights with Dewey. Though, she decides against going live on air after the events at Windsor College, opting to get in the ambulance with Dewey instead. According to Dewey, Gale has a good heart deep down, but she tends to hide it because she’s afraid sensitivity will be construed as a weakness. Her main form of bonding with him is through sleuthing, and she attempts to tap into this in order to connect.

Quotes:
Gale: Look, Kenny, I know you’re about fifty pounds overweight but when I say hurry please interpret that as…MOVE YOUR FAT TUB OF LARD ASS NOW!
Gale: Your mother’s murder was last year’s hottest court case. Somebody was gonna write a book about it. Sidney: Right. And it had to be you with all your lies and bullshit theories. Gale: What’s your problem? You got what you wanted. Cotton Weary’s in jail. They’re gonna gas him. A book’s not gonna change that. Sidney: Do you still think he’s innocent? Gale: Your testimony put him away. It doesn’t really matter what I think. Sidney: During the trial, you did all those stories about me. You called me a liar. Gale: I think you falsely identified him, yes. Sidney: And have you talked to Cotton? Gale: Many times. Sidney: And has his story changed? Gale: Not one word. He admits to having sex with your mother, but that’s all. Sidney: He’s lying. She never would’ve touched him. He raped her and then… he butchered her. Her blood was all over his coat. Gale: Cotton was drunk that night. He left his coat at your house after your mother seduced him. Sidney: I saw him leave wearing it. Gale: No, you saw someone leave wearing that coat. The same someone who planted it in Cotton’s car, framing him. Sidney: No. Cotton murdered my mother. Gale: You’re not so sure anymore, are you? Tatum: Nice welt, sweetie. Gale: The killer’s still on the loose, isn’t he? Tatum: Come on, Sid. Gale: Those murders are related. The killer is still on the loose, isn’t he? These murders are related. Gale: Jesus Christ. An innocent man on death row. A killer still on the loose. Kenny! Tell me I’m dreaming. Kenny: You wanna go live? Gale: No, no, no. Not so fast. We don’t have anything concrete. Kenny: This is huge, you can’t just sit on it. Gale: I know. That’s why we need proof. Kenny, if I’m right about this, I can save a man’s life. Do you know what the could do for my book sales?
Gale: I’ve got an ending for you. The reporter left for dead in the news van comes to. Stumbles on you two dipshits. Finds the gun and saves the day.
Gale: Tell me, Kenneth. Has a cheesy tabloid journalist ever won the Pulitzer? Kenny: First time for everything. Gale: You’re damn right.
Gale: They’re threatening to what? Are you kidding me? They’d be stupid to pull this movie. With all this free press, they’re gonna have huge numbers this weekend. It’ll break box office records.
Joel: Hi. I’m Joel. The affiliate sent me. I’m your new cameraman. Gale: Yeah. You got experience? Joel: Huh? Uh, yeah. I mean, I’m local, but I shot the bingo finals. I almost got an award for that. Gale: All right, listen, Joel. This is how it works. I point, you shoot. You stay focussed and fast on your feet, and we’ll get along fine. You’re playing with the big boys now, you got it?
Debbie Salt: Miss Weathers, please- I would- It would be an honor for me if I could just get a quote from you for my story. Gale: Okay. Begin quote: Your flattering remarks are both desperate and obvious. End quote.
Gale: Hey, you need to check your conscience at the door, sweetie. I’m not here to be loved.
Gale: Dewey. What are you doing here? Dewey: Why don’t you just leave her alone? Hasn’t she been through enough? And my name is Dwight. Gale: I was just doing my job, Dwight. Dewey: No matter who gets hurt in the process. Gale: Hey! Who got punched here- again? Dewey: Well, I don’t condone violence, but maybe you deserved it. Page 32: “Deputy Dewey filled the room… with his Barney Fife-ish presence.” Gale: You read my book. Dewey: Oh, yes, I do read, Miss Weathers. Gale: Oh, Dewey, don’t take it so seriously. It’s a character in a book. Page 41: “Deputy Dewey oozed with inexperience.” Gale: Don’t you think you’re overreacting just a little bit? Dewey: No. What I think is that you’re a money-hungry, fame-seeking- and forgive me for saying- mediocre writer who’s got a cold storage shed where her heart should be. No offense intended.
Gale: It’s happening again, isn’t it? Dewey: You’d love that, wouldn’t you?
Chief Hartley: We got three victims. Maureen Evans, Phil Stevens… and Cici Cooper. Gale: Is Cici the girl’s real name? Chief Hartley: Oh, uh, no. It’s, uh, Casey. Casey Cooper. Gale: As in Casey Becker? Chief Hartley: Excuse me? Gale: She was a young victim in Woodsboro. As well as her boyfriend, Steven Orth. Dewey: As in Phil Stevens. Gale: Maureen Evans- Maureen Prescott. That’s Sidney’s mother. Dewey: Do you think someone’s trying to duplicate Woodsboro? Gale: It looks like it. Dewey: I think you have a copycat on your hands, Chief.
Gale: So, I’m heading over to admissions to do some leg work. You game? Dewey: I’m not here to write a book, Miss Weathers. I’m here to help Sid. Gale: I want to help her, too. And help myself, of course. Come on, Dewey. Smile just once. Please? Dewey: I’ll smile when I catch the killer.
Debbie Salt: What about this ex-cop, Dewey? It’s kind of strange that he showed up. Reporter: Yeah, what’s he doing here? Gale: Dewey’s a good guy, unlike some of us.
Dewey: Who do you think the killer is? Randy: How about Gale Weathers? Dewey: Gale? A killer? Randy: Why not? Dewey: Well, she is vicious enough… Randy: She’s an opportunist. Dewey: Yeah. Randy: Isn’t it conceivable she’s planning her next book? That’s what reporters do, Dewey. They stage the news.
Joel: Um, Gale, can we talk for a sec? Gale: What is it? Joel: Look, I’m a little confused here. I mean, with your given track record, why would you wanna be here when the killer strikes again? I mean, granted, I should’ve read your book before I took this job. But I’m reading it now, and- Whoo! I read what happened to your last cameraman. The guy got gutted. Now, me, I’m gonna do what any rational human being would do, which is get the fuck out of here. Gale: First of all, he wasn’t gutted. I made that up. His throat was slashed. Joel: What are you- Gale, gutted, slashed, the guy ain’t in the union no more. Gale: It’s a job, Joel. And like every job, there’s a few drawbacks. But you’re a professional cameraman. You’ve got to act like one. Joel: Yeah, but I wanna report the news. I don’t wanna be the news. Besides, brothers don’t last long in situations like this. Gale: This is national television. Think about it. This is a big chance for you. The story is monumental. Don’t you wanna be a part of that?
Gale: Anyway, you’re forgetting something. In Woodsboro, there were more victims before the homestretch- Tatum, my cameraman, Himbry- Joel: Time out! I don’t need to be hearing about no dead cameramen, all right? Now, I’m warning you guys. I am a verb away from vacatin’ these premises. I’m gonna get me some coffee, donuts, Prozac, see if I can find some crack, Special K- “X,” not Malcolm- and I’ll be back when you guys start talking about something a little more Saved By The Bell-ish, all right? Dewey: He seems a little shaky. Gale: Don’t worry about him. If the killer is following a pattern, then maybe we can figure out who’s next. Dewey: I wouldn’t follow a killer’s pattern. We were all involved in Woodsboro. Could be any one of us. Gale: So what do you wanna do, bonehead? Sit here and wait and see who drops next?
Gale: I feel bad, Dewey. I feel really bad. I never say that because… I never feel bad about anything. But I feel bad now. Dewey: Is this just another… brilliant Gale Weathers performance? Gale: There are no cameras here. I just wanna find this fucker! I- I really do. Dewey: Me too. Could I give you a hand? What’s in here? Gale: Just some crowd footage that Joel shot. Hey, wait a minute. If the killer really is watching and relishing every minute, then he’d be here on these tapes, right? At each crime scene. Dewey: It’s worth a look. Gale: It’s definitely worth a look.
Gale: So, in closing, as the future journalists of America… there is one thing that you need to remember. Being the best means being willing to do what the others would not. Break the rules. Stop at nothing. Be willing to have the world hate you, because that is the only way that you’ll get the story, the facts and the fame.
Man: So you’re saying that we should be ready to go out and cut each other’s throats because that’s what you did. Gale: Metaphorically, yes. Man: Well, tell me, Miss Weathers. Was it worth it?
Jennifer: Someone’s helped me understand the real you. Gale: Someone? Jennifer: Your ruthless ambition, your private self-loathing… and that lost and lonely little girl inside. Gale: Lost and lonely what? Jennifer: You heard me.
Gale: You said you’d never leave Woodsboro. “It’s the only place that’s real.” But now you’re here. Not with me. Dewey, I took care of you. I waited until you were well, but I couldn’t stay there. It was like dog years. One year in Woodsboro is like seven anywhere else. Dewey: So it’s off to Paris for a week? New York for a month? L.A. forever? Gale: It was fucking 60 Minutes II. I couldn’t say no. I could’ve been the next Diane Sawyer. Dewey: What’s wrong with just being Gale Weathers? I liked her. Gale: It didn’t work, Dewey. We tried. We’re different. Dewey: You used to say that was our strength.
Gale: She’s got a good heart. She does. She just hides it away because she thinks people see that as weak. This is a good picture of you. You look just like her. Jennifer: God, Dewey. You make it sound like you’re still in love with her. Dewey: And I left out the part that she’s cruel… and selfish, obsessive and annoying.
Gale: Dewey, wait a minute. Just wait one second. How old do you think Maureen Prescott is in this picture? Dewey: Nineteen, twenty. Gale: That’s what I thought, so I checked it out. I cannot find any information about her at this age. I mean, nothing. Dewey: Well, she lived in Woodsboro her whole life.vSomeone there must know something. Gale: Almost her whole life. Two years before she met Sidney’s father, she left Woodsboro. Nobody has any idea where she went or what she did. I mean, it’s-it’s like she fell into a black hole, Dewey! She vanished! Dewey: So? Gale: Why is the killer leaving pictures of-of Maureen? And why these pictures at that point in her life? I don’t know! If I thought like a homicidal maniac… then I’d know how a homicidal maniac thinks. Gale: What? Dewey: Jennifer. Gale: Jennifer? Look at the buildings. The second story. There and there. It’s the same! It’s the same street 28 years ago. Oh, my God. Maureen Prescott was at the back lot at Sunrise Studios!
Jennifer: Milton’s the key to everything. Gale: He’s a pervert, he’s not a killer.
Gale: This is what I’m good at, Dewey. This is what I know how to do.
Dewey: Gale, where are you? Gale: I followed the kids to the Stab-a-Thon. There’s an old abandoned farm on Fort Dillon Road. Listen, I’ve got it under surveillance. I think the killer’s about to make his move. Dewey: What makes you so sure? Gale: You do a remake to out-do the original, that’s what the kids said. This party is all about the Stab movies. Come on, how meta can you get? Dewey: How “what-a” can you get? Gale: I don’t know. I heard them say it. Dewey, listen to me, you have to get out here! Come on. You catch the killer, I get the story. It’s a win-win. Dewey: Well, I thought you were going rogue, Gale. Gale: Oh, come… Are you serious? Come on! Forget it. Thanks for having faith in me.
Gale: She gonna be okay? Dewey: Yeah. She's a strong kid. Gale: She's gonna have to be. Dewey: She asked if you were okay. She thinks you guys should write a book together, with your matching wounds. Gale: Why, she was stabbed in the shoulder? [Dewey nods] How did she know I was, too?
