North west corner
Summary: When the 118 gets to a factory fire, Evan and (Y/n) get stuck in side of the building. Revealing quite a surprise.
Tumblr media
The team 118 was spread over the three rigs they owned, there was engine, ladder and the ambulance 118. Hen and Chimney were in the ambulance, while Bobby, Buck, Eddie and (Y/n) were in the ladder rig.
They were just on their way back to the firehouse as dispatch tried to connect with them. “Engine 118, ladder 118 and ambulance 118, Factory fire at 4545 West Caroll.” Sounded through the radio they had pinned to their chests.
As soon as they received the message, they grabbed their headsets and put them on their heads. And the ladder’s truck sirens were switched to on. Eddie was talking with Buck about some new restaurant down town. Meanwhile, (Y/n) was staring outside the window.
She wasn’t completely present. She had been feeling nauseous this morning, she couldn’t keep anything down. So she was basically performing on an empty stomach.
Completely lost in thought she flinched when her boyfriend who was sitting next to her, patted his hand on her knee to get her attention. She didn’t notice Evan asked her a question. A worried look spread on his face. “Huh?” Came out of her mouth. Evan’s hand was now rubbing up and down on her thigh.
“I asked if you were feeling okay?” (Y/n) nodded. “Yeah… Yeah I’m fine, just daydreaming” she answered him with a slight smile. While (Y/n) received another confused look from her brother who sat diagonally across from Evan. “Are you sure?” Eddie jumped in. The only thing (Y/n) was nod, and continued watching the streets they went rushing by. Brushing off the worried looks of her boyfriend and brother.
She was fine. They didn’t need to worry about her, just a little nausea wouldn’t hurt a soul. Am I right?
(Y/n) felt how the ladder truck came to a stop. Eddie went out on one side of the truck, and (Y/n) hopped out on the other side. She felt how Evan followed her steps. Both his hands resting on her shoulders as he jumped out of the vehicle. Evan took place next to her, putting his arm around her.
He closed the distance between them, his mouth moving towards her ear. “If there is something wrong, you know you can tell me. Right?” He whispered quietly. She nodded. “There’s nothing wrong.” she continued. And planted a kiss on his cheek and walked out of his grip.
As she was walking forward, she saw multiple victims running out of the building. Watching how the flames took over the factory building.
Bobby stood in front of his team, ready to shout orders. Evan and (Y/n) joined the group of firefighters. “Okay! Dispatch said there are still some trapped workers inside, they didn’t say how much. But I don’t like this smoke, so get a hose line in there. Be quick on this one, I’m saying four minutes tops! Hen, Chim, set up triage! Eddie, Buck, (Y/n), you go get those workers out of there! Let’s go!” Bobby’s voice tried to reach his crew. “On it cap!”
The ladder team opened up the compartment where they storaged the tanks, got them out and put them on their back. (Y/n) felt a feeling of discomfort crawling in her arms when she put on the tank on her back, but she ignored it. Maybe it was just a pulled muscle, a wrong movement she made.
Evan took a moment to take a glance at his girlfriend, he knows something is wrong. He could tell, she hadn’t been eating all day and she was absent. Those weren’t things she did on the regular basis. For now, he’d let it slide, they had to get inside to get the last victims out of that building. Hurriedly Evan put his mask on like the others and walked towards the entrance of the building.
When they got in the building, flames were literally everywhere. The flames were surrounding them. “LAFD! Call out!” They tried to call through their masks while also trying to get above the sound of the fire.
Repeatedly they called out that familiar sentence. Waiting for someone to respond while they did a quick sweep. They only had 4 minutes, that’s how much they got from Bobby. In one of the halls, they found one of the missing workers. The man was covered in ashes, and coughing as he couldn’t breathe through the thickness of the smoke. “Hey over here!” Buck called out as he was the first one to discover the man.
Evan lowered down to help the man stand on his own two feet. Eddie stopped him. “I got him! You two go look for others!” Eddie spoke as he took over the injured man from Evan. Eddie slung the man’s arm over his shoulder, giving him the support he needed and tried to make his way back out of the burning building. “Chim, Hen, I’m coming out with one victim!” Eddie spoke through his radio.
Eddie walked through the exit, what was also the entrance of the building. He handed the man over to Hen, so she could check him out and give him the treatment he needed.
Evan and (Y/n) tried to sweep the level for more injured employees. Although (Y/n) was in a burning building, she had a cold sweat dripping over her face and over her back. Her vision went blurry, but she tried to blink it away and follow Evan’s shadow. It could be the lack of energy, she didn’t eat all day. That could be the reason, right?
They entered an office, Buck entered first, searching the office. As (Y/n) tried to steady herself on the doorframe of the office. Trying to catch her breath. Her vision didn’t change. She was still sweating and her breaths became more rapid. She felt like she had run a marathon, but all she did was sweep the building together with her boyfriend. “LAFD! Call out!” Evan’s voice filled her eardrums again.
Bobby was outside, trying to estimate the situation “I don’t like this smoke! I want all firefighters to evacuate the building immediately!” Bobby called through his radio as he sees big clouds of dark grey smoke come out of the factory.
Buck searches the last part of the office, and made up his conclusion. “No one here, we’re coming out now!” Buck called through his radio. Buck turns on his heels, and saw his girlfriend standing in the doorway. “Come on let’s go!” He tried to motivate her.
She felt weak as if every piece of energy was sucked out of her in that little time. Her eyelids were becoming heavy, it took to many energy to keep her eyes open. She really tried to keep herself awake. But she couldn’t. Her heartbeat was ringing in her ears, together with her breathing.
Her knees buckled and she fell down on the floor. Letting gravity doing its work and pull her down to the ground.
“(Y/n)!” he yells out. He couldn’t even notice wat was happening.
He rushes towards his girlfriend and let himself flop down next to her side. “(Y/n)?? (Y/n)??” He panics. He doesn’t know what to do. His hand fell onto his radio, “Mayday, mayday! Firefighter down! I repeat firefighter down!” Buck sounded through the radio.
“Buck what’s going on?” He heard Eddie ask on the radio, his voice was full of worry. Eddie knew that the only firefighter who could be down, was (Y/n) since Evan was the one to speak through the radio. They both were the last ones to pull out of the building. The rest of the team was already outside of the building waiting for orders from the captain.
“Buck?!” Eddie repeated over the radio, almost crushing his radio with his bare hand. Evan put two of his fingers in her neck, and tried to search for her pulse. He couldn’t feel it. He couldn’t find her damn pulse. With trembling hands he reached out to his radio, and clicked in the button they used to speak. “I.. I think she’s having a heart attack” he spoke through the radio.
Eddie’s eyes went wide as he heard Evan’s response. He looked at Bobby. “What’s your location Buck?” Bobby spoke into his radio.
Eddie, who already had put his helmet back on, ready for his sign to go in, looked at Bobby with pain in his eyes. How was it possible that his damn’ sister was having a heart attack? She was twenty two. How does a twenty two year old get a heart attack?
“Bobby we have to get them!” Eddie tried to convince Bobby to let him go in. He was desperate to help his sister. “Eddie Stand down.” Is the only thing what came out of Bobby’s mouth. Bobby couldn’t let Eddie go in that fire hazard. It wasn’t safe.
Evan noticed how the fire came closer to them. “(Y/n)!” He called one more time, desperate to get her awake again. “Shit!” He cursed to himself as his attempt to get her awake again didn’t work. He stood up from (Y/n)’s side, and grabbed the handle they used to get the tanks to sit in place on a back of a person. He put both of his hands on the two straps which were holding the tank of his girlfriend into place. And he dragged her towards the office, which hasn’t caught fire yet.
Another explosion took place in the factory Evan and (Y/n) were in. Evan had to perform CPR, and find a way out. If he waited any longer, he could lose his girlfriend, and his best friend’s sister. “I’m starting CPR now!” He yelled through his radio. Evan didn’t bother to open her florescent jacket, it was too risky. The fire was already coming for them both. He had to do this now, he couldn’t lose more time. Evan locked his fingers together, straightened his elbows and pushed down his hands against (Y/n)’s chest.
“Come on baby, come on!” He tried to motivate her to come back to reality as he continued to push down on her chest. “You’re not allowed to do this (Y/n). You can’t go anywhere.”
Why didn’t Evan notice something sooner, he knew something was wrong. He knew she wasn’t okay and should’ve stopped her as soon as they came on scene.
But now here he was, performing CPR on his own girlfriend in a burning building.
Eddie turned towards Bobby. “Bobby, please you have to let me back in there! That’s my sister!” Tears were welling in his eyes. His heart was pounding as if it tried to break free out of his chest. It almost felt like he was having a heart attack himself.
Bobby gave Eddie a thoughtful look, he was actually considering Eddies request to go back in there. He couldn’t let them die in there. They were his family. And he needed to get them back to safety. The silence was ear deafening. He looked at Chimney and Hen, and then back at Eddie.
“Okay Eddie, let’s go!” Bobby reached out to get an oxygen tank and mask. Bobby put on his gear, as did Eddie. When they were all geared up, they hurried towards the entrance of the building. When another explosion took over the scene. Fire roared in front of the entrance.
Eddie was screaming out so loud, that he couldn’t notice how hard he was screaming. Bobby grabbed his upper arm and pulled him back from the entrance.
Eddie tried to break free of the hold Bobby got him in, he needed to safe his sister and Buck. Tears were leaving his eyes. He didn’t even think it was possible to have that many tears.
Bobby’s hand reached his radio. “Buck, the entrance is blocked. Put her on your shoulder if you have to. But you get the hell out of there, do you hear me!” Bobby ordered Evan.
Evan was putting all of his strength into getting his girlfriend back to life. He was pretty sure he heard and felt a few ribs cracking. He was exhausted. But he couldn’t give up. Tears were rolling down his face.
Buck stopped his compressions when he reached yet another thirty and slumped over her body to try and feel her pulse.
Nothing.
Evan threw off his oxygen mask, and gently took hers off too. His face was covered in ashes, drenched in sweat with a mix of his tears. He put his mouth over hers, and breathed into her lungs 2 times. Normally they wouldn’t do this. They had a rescue breath mask for that. But right now, he had to try this. He wouldn’t stop until he tried everything he could.
“(Y/n), if you can hear me. You have to wake up! And get the hell out that building!” Eddie tried to motivate her, even though she might not be able to hear him.
Evan interlaces his fingers again and put his fists on her chest again. Going for another round of chest compressions. Buck was blinking away the tears that were dripping off his cheeks onto (Y/n)’s florescent jacket. Gasping for breaths as he continued CPR. Meanwhile Buck was scanning the area he was in, trying to figure out how to get the hell out of this hell hole.
He was focusing himself on her chest, counting each push he gave her chest. Evan’s eyes shot to her eyes when he heard a gasp for breath, desperate for oxygen. She coughed as if she wanted her lungs to leave her body. He took his hands off her chest. “Hey! Hey! You’re fine, you’re okay!” Evan trying to reassure her, putting her face between his hands.
With one hand, he grabbed her oxygen mask and put it back on her face. Her chest was hurting from the pressure Evan used to get her back to life.
Evan noticed a door in the back of the office. He was silently hoping it was a staircase with a fire exit.
They had no time to waste. Evan and (Y/n) needed to get the hell out of that building. Evan could tell (Y/n) was too weak to hold herself up. He put back on his own oxygen mask and put his left arm underneath her lower back, his right arm found its way around her thighs and he hoisted her up in his arms.
Buck hurried forward towards the back door in the office. He turned his back to the door, and kicked his leg back to open the door.
Through the door, a beam of daylight welcomed Evan. There was a window. It was a kind of back office. Evan put back a chair with his feet and set (Y/n) down in it for a moment. He ran towards the window and searched around for anything he could smash the window with. But there was nothing usefull, not a damn thing. The room was already filling itself up with dark grey smoke. Evan didn’t have a choice. He had to break the window with his hands. Without thinking, Evan smashed his arm through the glass, immediately breaking the rest of the old window.
“Buck. Status update.” Bobby ordered Evan through his radio. The radio went silent. No answer from Evan nor (Y/n).
“Baby I am sorry, I need to do this.” He told (Y/n) as he fully ignored Bobby through the radio. The flames were already taking over the small walls of the back office.
He grabbed (Y/n)’s right arm with his left arm, lowered himself down and put his right arm around her thighs. And he hoisted (Y/n) over his shoulder as he fast made his way through the window with (Y/n) dangling over his shoulder.
Another explosion took over the building. The roof started to come down, as Evan tightly held (Y/n) in position.
Eddie felt his heart beating in his throat. He was pretty sure he was about to throw up. His eyes were on the entrance of the building as another loud bang sounded through the air. Bobby was trying to get in touch with Evan and (Y/n). “Buck. What’s your status?” Bobby called again through the radio. Nothing but noise from the frequency sounded through the radio.
Eddie stepped back. He put both his hands in his hair and was pretty sure he pulled some strands of hair from his scalp. He looked up at the sky, as he tried to stop the tears from falling down his face.
Bobby tried to radio Buck one more time. “Buck what-“ he couldn’t finish his sentence as he saw movement next to the building. Evan’s broad frame came in to his sight. “Eddie!” Bobby called out when he clearly saw Buck rushing towards them with (Y/n) over his shoulder. Eddie’s eyes shot towards Bobby, and then to the person Bobby was pointing at.
“Chim I need a gurney over here!” Before Bobby could even finish his sentence, Chimney came running down with a gurney with Eddie right behind him. “And get a hose line and water tank on that building!” Bobby continued shouting his orders.
When Evan reached the gurney, he slowly sat (Y/n) down on the gurney. While Bobby tried to take off the oxygen tank off her back, Eddie helped to gently take off her oxygen mask. Evan also took off his mask and let his gloved hand slide over his girlfriend’s cheek while she was coughing. He stepped back to give Chimney the space he needed to examine (Y/n).
Chimney held a light in front of her eyes. Asking her to follow it with her eyes. (Y/n) weakly tried to slap back his hand. “I’m fine” she groaned, and pushed herself up to get off the gurney when her knees buckled again. Eddie catches her just in time before her body met the floor again.
Evan rushed to her other side, next to Eddie. While Eddie and Evan try to push the female firefighter back on the gurney. She tries to push them both back. “Hey! Hey! Hey! (Y/n). Stop. Please.” Evan tries to stop her.
She stopped pushing them both. Evan took a step closer towards his girlfriend who was sitting on the gurney now. He carefully took one of her hands in his. “I know you’re not fine. I knew it from the beginning you stepped out of that ladder truck.” He confessed. He wasn’t that stupid. “I could see it on the look on your face. This past week, you’ve been acting so strange. So please, tell me. What’s going on. A twenty two year old doesn’t get a heart attack just like that.”
A silence fell. (Y/n) her eyes fell down looking at her hands. One of them was holding Evan’s. She squeezed her eyes shut. Trying to avoid the waterfall of tears, that was trying to make its way outside of her tear ducts.
She sighed.
“I’m pregnant Buck, that’s what’s been going on.”

hi!! so i have this idea and i think you’d be perfect to execute it. if you wouldn’t mind-
could you do a possible buck one-shot where maybe the reader is there when buck gets struck by lightening? just full of angst and sadness and maybe the reader has to be held back by eddie or hen or something and it’s like the world stopped for reader and just some sad stuff.
thank you so so much!! <33

a/n: hey there ;)) i’m so happy you trusted me with your lovely idea, i hope you love it!
lightning never scared y/n. she always saw them as innocent storms, one in a million chances. a rumble of thunder was just a bowling ball, and lightning was just someone turning a light on in heaven. she was never fearful of seeing lightning brighten up the sky, until it threatened to take down her sun.
one in a million chance to be struck by lightning, and the love of her life was the one. she didn’t know who to hate. herself for letting buck go up there. mother nature for letting this happen. buck for his bravery and skill. she hated how the one in a million chance left her sweaty hand grasping bucks on the bed, seeing the tube lay in his throat and his chest mechanically rise. she hated how the day old, damp uniform she was clad in felt on her body. she hated the way bucks closed eyes might never open again to show off his blues. there wasn’t a part of it she didn’t hate.
she was so happy that day, everything had gone perfectly fine. she loved days like this, but the night quickly turned to the worst day of her life.
staring at bucks dangling body from the ladder. trying not to smell the burning mark that the strike left over the area. her feet moved faster than her mind, instantly running to buck as he hung lifelessly from a rope. it felt like a dream, a nightmare. as if there were a demon chasing her, and she couldn’t run away, she just had to face it. henrietta and chimney’s arms were locked on each of y/n’s, pulling her body weight back so she couldn’t run.
the raw screams of eddie yelling for his best friend echoed in the dim hospital room. the earth had halted on its axis, leaving y/n upside down in the middle of the world, holding the hand of hers.
he was rolled away so fast into the hospital doors, not even giving her a chance to land the last kiss on his head. not giving her a chance to say what could’ve been goodbye. the people around her became non-existent. she stood behind, watching from the sliding doors of the hospital.
“come on, buck, hang on buddy!” chimney says.
“do more!” eddie yells back to the nurses and paramedics.
y/n didn’t say a word. not a single sentence could describe the chains wrapped around her heart. nothing could break her free from the prison she was being held in. her team looked at her standing behind, just watching her hands fall to her sides. her lips were parted, with short breaths leaving her mouth. her face was beet red from the anger, confusion, and the pure horror.
she refused to leave as she watched over bucks body like a hawk. she refused to pay attention to maddies sobs as chimney tells her what happened to her baby brother. she wants to scream, she want to bawl her eyes out in agony, but she can’t.
“y/n,” hen says, stepping into the room first to try and snap y/n out of her mind. “i brought you clothes. you should change, you’ll get sick in that cold, wet stuff.”
“thank you,” she murmurs. “i’ll stay here.”
“y/n, sweetie-“
“don’t. i want to stay right here. i’m not going anywhere.” hen wanted to object, but she knew that no one was moving y/n until she was ready.
chimney and maddie came in next, maddies heart physically breaking at the look on y/n’s face as she sat next to buck and his unchanging position. chimney tried to coerce her into changing, or even eating.
“y/n/n, you should eat something, it’s not good to let yourself fall away. he’d want you to take care of yourself.”
“he’d want me here with him. im not that hungry anyway,” she tells him, not being sure if she’d be able to keep anything down.
it was eventually bobby who made his way in, noticing y/n’s hair collect frizz and her eyelids darken.
“im not going anywhere, cap.”
“im not asking you to go anywhere.” bobby speaks, a calming aura leaving his words. she only looks up for a moment, and looking back down to buck. “im going to pray, if you’d like to join me.”
bobby began saying his prayers, and y/n hoped to any god listening that they’d listen. she wasn’t ever the religious type, but faith was all she needed, and unfortunately all she was left with.
the hours ticked by, on and on, until the doctors decided buck was ready. that is, to live or die. they said that he would be dead if he didn’t take a breath on his own when he was no longer intubated. a part of y/n wanted to put it off. if that tube was removed and he didn’t do what he needed, she’ll have lost him forever from the electricity in the sky. he’d become one with the thing that killed him. at least now she could hold his hand and believe that maybe he’d come back.
as bucks mother and father watched over him, and maddie stood in the corner, fearful to watch his brother swing on the lines of death and life, y/n remained in the warm but uncomfortable chair she had been in for too long, barely ever being able to stand. no one had ever seen her so low, horrified that she wouldn’t make it out without buck.
“are you ready?” the doctor questions, asking the family if they want to possible take the life from buck in this moment.
his parents nod, looking over to maddie as her brows scrunch together, but also complying. all four of them look over to y/n, seeing her eyes locked on bucks shut ones. “not really, but go ahead.”
the tube was taken out painfully slow, the room so quiet that the beeping of his heart monitor felt like fireworks. the air was thick and eerie, almost ready to accept buck into the darkness.
what y/n would never know, is that buck watched from the other room. he saw her falling apart, and ignored his other form. if he gave up, he’d be giving up on her. she’s been there for him through everything, and he has never once seen her look so alone, even surrounded by all these supportive people. he didn’t even want to her his alter speak any more, as he grabbed his sledgehammer and shattered the glass separating him from the rest of his life.
his chest rose quickly and tall, the sharp air entering his nose as y/n could only graze the skin on his hand. each breath from buck came one by one after, a perfect rhythm that she could find herself falling asleep to as she lays on his chest.
each breath he took left a crack in her heart, another water droplet in her eye ready to fall.
“i have high hopes for him, everyone.” the doctor smiles, looking at y/n as they all look between her and buck.
she cries. she cries more than she ever has before, soaking the blanket besides buck more than the rain on the day he was almost taken. her chest heaves, her breathing worse than the ill man in front of her. the wet streams fall down her cheeks and pool on her neck, sniffling in to keep her completely from falling apart.
buck spends the next strenuous hours waking up from his coma, knowing what waits for him when he rouses. she still remains, wanting to be there for him when he regains consciousness. she wants her hand to be on his, and his eyes to meet hers. his soft lids and long lashes flutter, revealing his tired, bright blue eyes to the world that has tried to hard to ruin it. he’s met with the universe in front of him, the small curl on y/n’s lips and the beauty she carries around with her.
“nice of you to join us,” she smiles, her voice cracking from exhaustion. he looks less tired, almost transferring energy to her. “i missed you.” understatement.
“i knew you’d be waiting for me. never had doubts about that.”
“if you ever try to leave me again, i’ll kill you myself.”
“i am never leaving someone like you.” the couple just smiles back at the other, his hand cupping the side of her cheek. “come kiss me.”
she obliges, standing up from her chair and letting him pull her closer. her lips press against his, letting themselves fall into the foreign grasp of the other. he lets his hands wander over her body, running them all over the places he loves more than anything. he finally brings himself to pull away and look at her face, the need for cleanliness and sleep written all over it.
“now, go take care of yourself, please. i’m not going anywhere.”

911 6x16 CODA
“You know Hen is just trying to protect Chim,” Eddie says when the silence has finally gotten ridiculous.
“I know,” Buck grunts in response, aggressively chopping the onions for tonight’s dinner.
It’d been easier with Chris around. His presence has the power to cheer Buck up immediately, or at the very least hide whatever’s bothering him. But as soon as Chris announced he was going to play in his room until dinner was ready, Eddie’d felt his kitchen’s temperature drop. And it’s not that Buck was pissed at him, not really, but it’s so unusual for Buck to be angry like this that he can’t ignore it longer than a couple seconds.
“But you’re still mad at her,” Eddie insists, taking a sip of his beer.
“I’m not.”
Eddie arches an eyebrow and waits until his silence prompts Buck to look up and receive the full judgement of his stare.
“I’m not! It’s just- it’s not fair, Eddie. I mean, sure, Maddie left once, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve to be happy,” Buck rants, gesturing around widely with the knife.
“That’s not what Hen was saying, Buck. She’s just… scared, that her best friend will get hurt again. If you were… I don’t know, trying to marry Abby or something, I’d probably be the same way.”
At the mention of Abby, Buck freezes. A flash of hurt crosses his features, and Eddie is thrown back to the night he met the woman, to the realization at this was the person who’d caused so much pain to the nicest person he knows. To the desire to fight and yell at her at that very moment because who could possibly do that to Buck, of all people, leave a mess of heartbreak and yearning behind for her own benefit? Oh, if he was Hen, he’d do far more than act ambivalent about the wedding.
“Maddie is not Abby,” Buck says, his voice deep and slow in a way that warns Eddie that he might have stepped on a line he didn’t mean to. “Maddie wasn’t finding herself and forgetting about Chimney, Eddie. She was scared, she was in pain, she was sick and lost… and she came back. Maddie always comes back. So- so what if she screwed up? That doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve to be loved.”
“Nobody is saying that, Buck,” he tries, placating. “Of course that’s not it. But you can’t blame Hen for being worried.”
“But she can blame Maddie?” Buck snaps, and though his voice is still controlled there’s a sharpness there so unusual that it makes Eddie pause. “You don’t get it, Eddie. You didn’t see- you guys met Maddie after she’d finally left Doug. And, yes, you saw how fucked up he was in the end, you saw the end of it… but none of you were there when they were together. None of you saw the actual worst part of it. I- I did.”
The way Buck’s voice shakes and his eyes shine with tears makes Eddie’s heart twist into a million knots. He feels like his watching a much younger and much more scared version of his best friend for an instant, a painful window to the past.
“I was there, Eddie. I saw Maddie waste away to almost nothing. I saw Doug pretending to love her, but only when everything was perfect, only when she didn’t screw up, I saw him punish her again, and again, and again, for the same mistake, never letting go of any of them. She was terrified of even the smallest screw up, because he’d take his love away if she did!”
“Buck,” Eddie says, gently “no one is punishing Maddie. Chim would never do that.”
“I know! Because Chim is great, and he loves her, Eddie, and she deserves that. They- fuck, they deserve to be happy after all they’ve been through.”
Buck’s knuckles are white around the trembling knife. Eddie puts a hand on top of his, gently guiding it down until Buck drops it.
“They do. They do deserve to be happy, Buck. You’re right.”
Buck cleans the tears on his face with his left hand, whispers damn onions under his breath. Eddie runs his thumb over Buck’s knuckles, soothingly, until his brain catches up to what he is doing. Slowly, regretfully, he pulls his hand away.
“I know Hen’s just looking after Chim,” Buck sighs, voice hoarse. Eddie pushes Buck’s beer closer, and is glad when he takes the offering. After a sip, he breaths. “I know why she’s worried. I’m- I’m not mad at her. I’m just-“
“You’re just mad. At all of it.”
Buck nods, looking down, and Eddie wishes he could move across the kitchen island and wrap him up in a hug. He doesn’t. He’s not sure why. It feels forbidden.
“You love your sister, Buck, and you want her to be happy.”
“And Chim. I love him too. I want them both to be happy.”
“They are happy. They have each other, and Jee, that’s all that matters. Marriage doesn’t mean immediate happiness, or a happy ever after, trust me on that one.”
Buck nods, still frowning as he slides the chopped onions into the frying pan.
“You’re right. Im- I’m sorry, it’s just-“
“You’ve got nothing to be sorry about, Buck. You’re just looking out for the people you love.”
“And so is Hen,” Buck sighs, defeated.
“So is Hen,” Eddie nods. “You’re still allowed to be mad at her, if you want. Let yourself feel it.”
Finally, Buck looks up at him, with a small thankful smile that Eddie would burn entire cities for.
“Sorry for the grumpiness.”
“Don’t mention it, Buck. We want you here on your bad days, too.”
A glint of that same sadness that’d tainted Buck’s face earlier crosses his features. Eddie knows that Maddie isn’t the only one of the Buckley siblings struggling with the concept of unconditional love, of being deserving of it regardless of whether it’s easy or hard, if they are sunshine or rain, if they fix things or screw up.
“Is dinner ready?” Chris marches into the kitchen like a hurricane.
“Hey, bud!” Buck’s face morphs into that easy smile he saves for him and only him. “Nah, sorry, still have a bit to go. You wanna help?”
Christopher frowns up at them and Eddie prepares himself for one of his recent outburst of adolescence. Instead, Chris whispers “why are you crying?”
Buck’s face falls. He blinks at Chris, then at Eddie, who interjects quickly:
“You know how he gets when he chops onions.”
“Oh yeah, your eyes water a lot. It’s because they release something that hurts your eyes. But they say that if you put a wooden spoon between your teeth it helps.”
“They? Who is they?” Buck laughs.
“The internet.”
“Abuela says the same,” Eddie supplies and Chris looks absolutely triumphant because if Abuela says so it must be true.
“Alright then, I should try that next time,” Buck chuckles. “So, sous chef, wanna help me with this?”
“Yes, but let’s be fast because I’m hungry,” Chris quips, as Buck helps him up onto a chair.
Eddie watches them fall into their easy and happy rhythm and finally feels the tension in the kitchen dissipate. It’ll be alright. They’ve got each other and they have Chris. That’s all they need.

bad idea, right? (Crack-ish Fic)
I was listening to this song and I couldn't stop thinking about Eddie singing along to it.
***
The last thing Eddie expected was to get music recommendations from his 14-year-old son's girlfriend but here he was. Penny introduced him to Olivia Rodrigo and he became a little obsessed with “bad idea right?” especially since he and Buck were in the off part of their on-and-off relationship, but he always kind of had the urge to "trip and fall into his bed."
As he cleaned the fire engines one day, the song came on in his playlist. He couldn't help but shake his body along to the song and before he knew it, he was singing along to the lyrics, "Like blah-blah-blah blah blah blah blah blah. Should probably not. I should probably, probably not. I should probably, probably not."
Soon his voice got a little louder and he stopped cleaning the engine altogether and instead belted out the lyrics while playing air guitar. "Yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect? "I only see him as a friend, " the biggest lie I ever said. Oh, yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend, I just tripped and fell into his bed." He banged his head along to the song and bounced around while continuing to play air guitar.
"EDDIE DIAZ!"
Eddie almost jumped out of his skin when he heard Bobby's voice. He turned around to see Bobby giving him an unamused look with his lips pursed together and his eyes narrowed at him.
Eddie immediately took out his earphones and stood completely still like he was standing in front of a drill sergeant. "Sorry, Bobby!"
Looking up at the loft, he found Chimney and Hen standing there, laughing their asses off falling over each other while Buck looked like he was cringing. Eddie didn't know which was worse.
"Eddie, if you're done being a 15-year-old girl, you can join us for dinner," Bobby told him and then turned around to leave.
"Cap-" Eddie called out to him but he didn't know what he would say. to him.
"It's okay, Eddie," Bobby said turning around. "You have a nice voice, by the way." With that, he smirked and went back upstairs.
Eddie threw his head back and groaned before heading upstairs after him.
"I wonder which ex's bed you tripped and fell into, Eddie," Chimney teased him when he caught up with him.
"I think it's obvious. He said it himself 'I only see him as a friend,'" Hen teased coming up to his other side.
Eddie groaned again, "I'm not hungry, cap. I'll be right back." He left before anyone could say anything else and locked himself in one of the bathroom stalls downstairs.
As he wallowed in there, he heard the front door open, followed by footsteps. "Eddie?" It was Buck. "I know you're in here somewhere."
"Go away, Buck. I'm not in the mood for more teasing," Eddie told him.
"I'm not here to tease you, baby- sorry-" Buck sighed and then Eddie saw his feet stop in front of the stall. "Can you come out?"
"No," Eddie replied stubbornly.
"Please?"
Eddie sighed and unlocked the door, but he didn't move from his spot on the toilet seat.
"Hey, you have nothing to be embarrassed about," Buck tried assuring him.
"Me declaring -very loudly- that I want to fall back into the bed of my ex at my workplace isn't embarrassing?" Eddie huffed.
"I am actually flattered," Buck told him.
"Good for you because I want to crawl into a hole and die," Eddie informed him.
"Well, if it's any consolation, I miss having you in my bed too," Buck shrugged.
"Just in your bed?" Eddie asked biting his lips.
"No, not just in my bed," Buck confirmed. "Now come on, let's go eat," he said holding out his hand for Eddie to take.
Eddie looked between the hand and Buck's face before taking it and getting up.
As they left, Buck smirked and asked, "Doesn't she say 'And I'm sure I've seen some hotter men, but I really can't remember when?'"
Eddie rolled his eyes and gently punched his arm. "Of course, that's the part that resonates with you."

Fire-fam kids Teenage Adventures: Influences
The way I pulled and Evan Buckley and did an ungodly amount of research to find out if Christophers age here was still somewhat reasonable. I pulled out my calculator! Trigger warning: shootings
Tumblr media
It had been a month and a few weeks after his first day of high school. Specifically at Theodore Roosevelt High. Sure Eddie had been more than a little worried, but Chris was confident he would be fine. Don't get it twisted, at first, he wanted to go to school with Denny and Harry. But after thinking it over, he decided it would be better to make connections on his own.
Buck was more than happy to let him try his own thing as long as he was being safe. After the painful slow burn, Eddie and Buck tied the knot and have been married for two years now. It was nothing but heaven. Of course, that didn't mean he wasn't scared his little boy was going off to high school.
"I declare you, officially a teenager. Welcome to angst and acne forever!" Harry had said that when Christopher's fourteenth birthday came up. Harry was already sixteen by now so he knew a thing or two. Denny, who was now fifteen, had recorded the interaction to show his girlfriend and Christopher's secret friend. Not really a secret but Eddie and Buck didn't know about him yet so it technically was a secret. There was a reason Christopher pushed so hard to go specifically to Theodore Roosevelt.
Manuel "Manny" Salvador Gutiérrez. Mouthful of a name to say at once. It's why he preferred going by Manny Gutiérrez. Harry and Denny met him when Chris invited them to the mall saying he wanted them to meet someone. Manny was the type of guy to be tough and stoic. To be known as the troubled kid who looked like could throw a mean punch(he could) and not get hit at all.
Always wearing worn-down Vans with slightly baggy jeans, sometimes ripped jeans, an oversized shirt with a jacket over. Or sometimes a graphic tee that color matched with his Vans and leather jacket.  He dyed hair at the ends, piercings(eyebrow and nose), and small tattoos because his mom let him.
Underneath that though, kid was a total dork. Once he warms up to you he's a complete softy. Like a big furry black dog. Looks intimidating, but is dopey at the sight of his favorite person. And that person was Chris. They had met in Junior High in math class, which was Manny's best subject. The teacher recommended extra credit to tutor Chris and since then they've been best friends.
"Wonder what's taking so long?" Eddie hummed in response at Chimney behind him. After learning they had a 24-hour shift, Hen, Chim, Buck, and Eddie had decided to carpool in the black minivan so it would be less gas on everyone. Noticing the time they got out, Buck texted Carla ahead to not worry about Chris because they would be able to pick him up.
"Not sure, he's usually out by now. The final bell rang like 20 minutes ago."
Looking around, he couldn't spot his kid. He'd begun taking on a different style of dressing recently. Drifting slightly away from bright colors but keeping his nerdy side. His hair was also slightly different. He had shaved sides that weren't vibrant but still shined. Wore more Converse than  Eddie had in his whole life.
Hen looked out through her window, which was closer to the school gates, and saw Chris walking out but without his backpack smiling.
"I see him at the gate but he doesn't have his bag." Buck and Eddie turned to look and were surprised that Hen was telling the truth. Chris had this thing with bags,  that if he didn't have it on him during school hours, he wasn't functional. That's when they saw a 5,6, light-skinned boy with purple-tipped hair in curls in a messy mullet, running up to their son with a backpack on his body and holding Christopher's bag for him on the other.
Eddie's eyes bulged, he barely even got to touch the bag, including Buck. He wondered how Christopher allowed the boy to hold his bag as carelessly as he was. As the two teenagers looked around, Christopher saw the minivan, smiled, and waved. The boy next to him doing the same. Buck, Chim, and Hen waved back smiling.
Not Eddie, he was still in shock and protective dad mode. As the boys walked over Eddie inspected the kid closer. He got a weird feeling and immediately disapproved. Then again he didn't know him so judgment was base level.
"Never would've thought Christopher hung out with punk rock kids," Chim commented making Hen snort and Buck smile while glancing at the back seat diagonal from him. Hen moved back through the open middle and sat in the very back seat. As the door opened, Eddie adjusted himself in the driver's seat so he could look at the pair better.
"Hey everybody!" Christopher said cheerfully.
"Hey!" Was the synchronized greeting. When nothing came out of Eddie except a soft smile, Chris raised an eyebrow but chose to ignore it for now. Turning to his friend while reaching for his bag Christopher spoke.
"Thanks again Manny, I'll text you when I get home." The blonde said whilst putting his bag on the floor of the van. Raising his hand waiting for Manny to do the same.
"Más te vale menso." He replied in Spanish while dapping up Chris. Walking away after Chris closed the car doors, he put on his headphones and walked off down the street.
"Who was that?" Christopher gained a weird expression, not because of the question in general, but because of the tone his dad used. Is he angry at Manny?
"My friend. Why?" Laughter came from the other three "adults" in the vehicle while Eddie started the van giving Christopher more confusion than before. After dropping off the other two firefighters at their respective homes, the family of three headed home. Once inside, Eddie wanted to start asking Chris about Manny but the person of interest interrupted with a phone call. Unintentionally.
"Hey, big man! How's the homework Garcia gave us? N-no! Oh, come on! Another Delta math-, I swear he secretly hates us-,..." The sound of conversation drifted away as Christopher dashed into his room for privacy. A small laugh pulled Eddie from his thoughts.
Turning around to glare at the man who he loved oh so much, but would very much beat up for making fun of him.
"What?"
"Yeesh, spicy Díaz, my favorite. Wish  I could have you to myself early." Buck sauntered over whilst pulling his lover in by the waist. Getting a petty pout from the shorter one.
"Siguele, aver como te va. Don't act like you're not worried either." Eddie sassed as he placed a soft kiss on Buck's lips, the latter happily reciprocating. Pulling away, smiling Buck sighed.
"Nah, especially cause I already knew." He informed his husband, who's eyes widened in shock. "I walk into Chris' room to put some clothes away and saw the Discord call open,... and their messages." Buck looks down somewhat shamefully.
If Eddie was immature, he would ask what the messages had said. However, today was not the day, he needed to know Buck's opinion. (He'll press him for details later when they go to bed) Smiling with jaw agape, he couldn't help but chuckle at his pale lover with blue eyes.
"So you're telling me that, you were judging me, for being too snoopy of my son.." burying his face against Eddie's shoulder to save embarrassment, "And you-!"
Laughing slightly cut him off, to be fair, he was laughing too.
"YoOU decided to SCROLL through our little boy's messages?? You?! The 'laid back' parent?!"
Cackling at this point Eddie was smiling uncontrollably whilst watching Buck wallow in shame.
"You guys okay?" Chris said smiling at how affectionate they were being peeking his head out of his door. The pair turned to look at their son. Damn, he'd gotten tall over the time he'd entered high school.
"Yeah, we're good bud. We're just laughing at something." Buck assured the blonde boy.
"Okay, hey is it okay if I go over to Manny's tomorrow after school? It's his birthday and we wanted to spend time together," Despite the emotional manipulation tactic(taught to him by Buck no doubt) Eddie caved and agreed to let him go, reluctantly, as long as he texted when they went anywhere different location-wise.
-------------------------------------------
So be it the next morning Christopher was gone for school earlier than Eddie and Buck were up for their 10-hour shift, and he got suspicious. The last time that happened Christopher made pancakes and burned Eddies. On purpose. Called it revenge for when he was a kid who couldn't fend for himself. He got noogied for a good bit after that one.
Looking at his phone after brushing his teeth, he saw a message from Chris. Saying he left early with some friends because they were stopping by the store near the school. They were grabbing snacks to eat in class because their teacher didn't care as long as they multi-tasked(they wouldn't), and finished their online notes(they won't).
Looking over his shoulder, Buck smiled in awe. He looked so proud of his son that it made Eddie's heart melt.
"He's growing up now huh?" Eddie nodded but stayed silent. Raising a brow in concern, Buck turned the shorter firefighter to face him and gently lifted his face with his index finger. Poor Papa Eddie, had small tears forming in his eyes. "Awh, Eddie, mi amor. It's okay."
If you think Buck didn't hold Eddie for a solid 3 minutes whilst rocking slowly from right to left? You're wrong. He even moved his hands against the man's face and kissed his forehead. Pulling back into the hug, Eddie nuzzled his head in Bucks' muscular figure.
"Don't forget he still needs us." Eddie knew that, but the thought of Christopher one day leaving to be on his own was terrifying.
-------------------------------------------
And need them he did. How did it go so wrong so fast? At first, it started like a normal workday. Mess with Chim and Ravi, gossip with Hen, work out with Lena, answer calls, and help Bobby make dinner. Stuff that was unexpectedly expected. That is till 1:30 when a call from a school. Saying that there was an active shooter in their walls.
"It's at Roosevelt," Bobby said without wanting to go into detail. Everyone in the back seat froze and gazed upon Eddie and Buck who quickly interlocked hands to try and pace their breathing to focus. "Think you can handle it?" Immediate nods from the pair answered. The others smiled solemnly.
Once arriving at the school they noticed police officers everywhere around the school, thank god, and students across the street on the far side of the park. They caught sight of Officer Morales, a good friend of Athena's, talking to the Principal.
Athena went up to them once seeing their arrival.
"Whoever it is, it's a student. The cameras Reid hacked showed no footage of anyone sneaking in on school grounds. I need you guys to go in and find some kids that are still in the building-" A loud series of gunshots were heard. People near but far enough away from the danger could be heard crying, yelling, or swearing. Reluctantly Athena looked to Eddie. "Christopher is in there still. Along with four others. We need to hurry. My group will flank left, you go right, I want this child caught."
Without wasting another second, and no time to fully think about what she said, the team applied bullet bulletproof vest underneath their jackets and broke a window to get in through the science labs. Walking around as silently as possible they tried finding the shooter without giving them a hint of an idea that they were inside.
Granted, shattered glass in an empty room isn't the quietest. Walking around Eddie's heart was beating quicker than ever. Of all things, why a shooter at his son's school? Then Eddie thought back to what Christopher had asked him yesterday. Poor Manny must think today's the worst birthday ever.
Hearing a crack, they froze. Getting ready to duck into cover in the classrooms or run across the hallway. The sound of running gets nearer, with a shadow then rounding the corner to face them. Manny.
The sigh of relief from the kid was the opposite of what the firefighters felt. The boy was covered in blood and his hair was more messy and gross from sweat. Bobby prayed that it was someone else's blood in an attempt to trick the shoot. Manny scanned each of them till running up to Buck and Eddie.
"I know where Chris is! Come on!" He whispered. Looking at the other firefighters he gave them information on where the shooter was. "She's on the top floor, I drove her away from where Chris was and looped around. She thinks I'm still up there."
So it was a girl. Snapping out of it Bobby radioed Athena and told her to meet upstairs to corner the shooter and catch her.
"Her?" Athena's surprised voice could be heard.
"She's the daughter of a gun shop owner. She must've been pissed enough about Monday morning to pull this," Monday? "Careful, it's not a pretty sight in room S-16." This poor kid. Following Manny down the hall he came from, they made it to the Library and headed to the back.
Digging through the ripped wallpaper, he opened up a hidden room. Inside Christopher was having a panic attack, holding a pair of long scissors. Once seeing Manny he dropped them and lunged into the taller kid's arms.
"Manny! Dads!" The boy said hugging his parents whilst his friend watched. Taking a good look at him, Christopher wasn't injured. Smudged blood from hugging Manny in the relief of seeing his friend alive.
"We gotta get them outta here," Buck said before shots were fired upstairs.
"Go, I need to find Angie. She's still in the upper bathroom. I saw her text." Manny told Christopher, almost forgetting the adults were still there. Seriously?
"No time, come on!" Eddie yelled and went to pick up Chris. But Manny was two steps ahead and grabbed his arm running away. Groaning Eddie and Buck ran after the pair. Eddie was cursing in his head, what the hell is wrong with him!? Putting them in jeopardy like this.
Seeing them stop abruptly, Manny pushed his arm against one of the fire escape doors. It looked like one of the other students propped it open to let others out in case they were still inside. When Eddie and Buck reached them, Eddie walked through the door and tried, key word tried, to drag them towards the truck.
"No, I need to get to Angie! She's still in there!" Manny yelled out trying to rip out of Buck's hold.
"Manny! She's gonna be okay, I know you don't trust law enforcement but these are good ones. They're my family," Chris calmed(reprimanded??) his friend and led him towards the truck. Once they got to the truck, Hen ran over to inspect the injuries on Manny while Eddie checked Christopher to double-check if he was injured or not. A thump broke the inspection though. Looking up, Eddie saw Manny lying down in the truck with Hen panicked.
"Manny!" Chris yelled, leaning over his friend trying to wake him up.
"Oh my god-, Eddie I need gauze for pressure, he was shot in the stomach!" Scanning the boy, he noticed the splotch of blood on his white shirt over the torso was getting darker. Also spreading and staining the vehicle along with the boy's jacket. A brief sight at the jacket let Eddie read out a name on a patch on his right arm. U.S. Navy Airforce it read.
"Shit! Buck! Grab Chris!"
"No! Buck let me go! Manny!" Chris yelled trying to break free from his pop's arms. Looking back at the scene the kid was barely breathing but needed serious medical attention quickly.
"We need to get him to the hospital. Now!" Nodding her head, Hen and Eddie transferred him to one of the ambulances and rode off to the hospital nearby.
"Stay with us kid, just a little longer!" Manny was looking around the ambulance looking at Eddie trying to respond to him. "No, no, no, don't talk, focus on breathing. I need you to stay with me! We're almost there!"
Looking out the window of the ambulance, Eddie's heart broke more. The sight of leaving Christopher behind in Buck's arms, still trying to break free and run after the ambulance. Eddie didn't doubt tears were streaming down his son's face.
-------------------------------------------
Later after arriving at the hospital and dropping the kid off, Eddie asked the nurses, whom he knew personally from all of his and his husband's escapades, to give him updates on Manny. She agreed relieved after inspecting the file quickly and said she'd let him know anything that happened.
After an hour of searching and a shot police officer, they were able to catch the girl responsible. Apparently, on Monday morning one of the teachers shamed her for her behavior. Saying it was her attitude wouldn't get her far in life especially because she didn't have a mom. the teacher didn't apologize and the people who she asked for help didn't do anything about it. That doesn't excuse the shooting and the lives it cost. The teacher she tried to get wasn't even hurt after the fact.
Parents were crying whilst firefighters and police officers consoled them. Returning to the scene for any additional tasks, Eddie scanned the area looking for his team. After catching sight of Buck and Chimney, he and Hen ran up to them.
"Where's Christopher?"
"Carla took him home, Bobby let me call her to make sure he was away from here," Buck said from behind him. Looking around slightly Eddie saw Ravi sitting on the curb with his head in his hands. "Ravi was up with some of the officers and Bobby trying to get the shooter. She aimed her gun at Ravi and a kid hiding in the corner jumped in front of him. It went right through his skull. Held him in his arms and took his parents into the building to mourn." Eddie grabbed Bucks' hand and walked up to Ravi.
This poor guy couldn't catch a break. Looking up, Ravi revealed his bloodshot eyes and pale face.
"It wasn't your fault," Buck said leaning on one knee with his partner copying. Putting an arm on the shoulder for comfort. Shaking his head, Ravi bit his lip to stop more tears.
"I'm sorry Buck, but right now I can't believe that. I don't think I ever will either."
After that Bobby told them all to go home and spend time with themselves and their families. Once opening the door to their house, Eddie and Buck were tackled into a hug by their son and then a softer one from Carla. After she left, Eddie gave Christopher an update on Manny. He was stable but wouldn't leave the hospital for a few days.
"Do you know his parent's phone number? I don't know if they followed to the hospital after getting a phone call." Chris gained a pained expression and rubbed his eyes, pushing his glass up in the process, before responding.
"They aren't home, they're in Miami. They're truckers, so they're never really around." Eddie took a glance at Buck who was looking down at the table saddened even more. "They're good people, just not around a lot. He was mainly with his uncle till last year. I can't say more than that, it's personal and should come from Manny."
-------------------------------------------
The next morning school was canceled for the next two weeks. Along with encouragement for parents to seek therapy for their kids. Chris already had one, but Manny had become a concern now in Eddie's mind. Birthday at the same time as shooting and almost dying was not a good combo.
"When Madison pulled out her gun she was in the English room. Me and Manny were walking down the hall from turning in papers when we heard the gunshots. We thought something loud hit the floor till she came out, saw us, and shot. I froze, but Manny reacted and shielded himself in front of me. Grabbed my hand and booked it downstairs. I was able to pull the fire alarm in time whilst someone else called the cops. Angie was the one that wasn't in the room so she dialed 9-1-1." By the end of retelling the incident, Chris was sobbing in his father's arms, trying to speak but couldn't.
After a small breakfast, they all headed to the hospital and saw the multitude of parents in the waiting room. Some with tears, others with anger on their face. Some blank.
"Why are we here?"
"This is where we brought Manny, figured you'd want to see him. Plus he deserves a good party for his birthday. Sixteen's a big one." Chris brightened up at the idea but went back to somber at the idea of Manny connected to tubes keeping him alive.
"Hey there, you visiting that kid you brought in yesterday?" the same nurse from the other day asked. Smiling Eddie nodded, holding up a bag with a cake inside. They stopped at the store quickly to buy a mini one. Eddie hoped he loved carrot cake. It was the only one they had.
"If that's okay. Don't wanna overwhelm him after yesterday." Buck coaxed, probably trying to subtly tell Chris they might not let him in due to not being on the emergency list.
"Yeah, honestly better you three than no one at all." That brought frowns to Eddie and Buck. His parents weren't home yet then. Going up the elevators and walking the halls down, they got to the room. Taking a deep breath Chris opened the door and saw Manny awake looking at something on his phone. Looking up he visibly relaxed yet still looked worried. Meanwhile, Chris was just happy to see his friend alive running over to hug him.
Buck had his arm over Eddie's shoulder and leaned his head on the latter. This kid wasn't so bad. And he deserved so much better than what the universe handed him this week.

Buried
This gave me like 100000000000 ideas!!!
So the beginning was easy and the kitchen scene came easy. The inbetween got me though.
hey! i know you said youve had trouble drawing inspiration and i was wondering if maybe you could do an eddie diaz x reader with inspiration from the earthquake episode or eddie begins when he gets buried? just some good ol hurt to comfort with the best firefighter 🫶
You were sitting on the couch folding laundry when you looked up and saw the news was showing a live report from a search and rescue of a little boy. You then spotted the familiar 118 truck.
You turned it up just in time to hear them say, “ it seems they have lost contact with the firefighter that went in after the boy.”
You zoned after that. You suddenly felt sick. You searched the screen for a glimpse of your husband, Eddie.
You went on auto pilot, you reached your phone and called the one person you knew could help.
“Hey baby girl, what can I do for you?” You heard Athena ask.
“Is-is-is it Eddie?” You ask shakily.
“Y/n listen you know nothing is going to prevent that man from coming home to you and that sweet boy of his, they will get him out” Athena said searching for her words.
“I know but I saw the news report and I just couldn’t help but be afraid” you said
“I get it, it’s natural but you have to remember who he is with, the best firefighters in the world. They will bring him home” she says
“I know, Thank you Athena”
“Anytime baby” she says hanging up.
Christopher comes into the room and plops on the couch next to you. You quickly change the channel.
“Whats wrongs, mom?” He ask.
“Nothing just a sad movie” you lie. You wipe your tears and scoot next to him wrapping him in a hug. He giggles.
“You are weird” he says. You kiss his head and stand up.
“How about some pizza?” You ask, trying to get everything off your mind.
-
You were cleaned up dinner and put Christopher to bed, well put him in his room he refused to be tucked in until his dad got home. It had been about 4 hours since you found out.
You peaked in a saw Christopher was asleep. You heard your phone ringing so you ran and answered it.
“We’ve got him” Bobby said as you answered the phone.
“Let me talk to her” you heard Eddie say weakly.
“Eddie?” You asked when you heard him take the phone.
“Hey beautiful” he said.
“Eddie baby are you ok?” You asked finally relieved.
“I will be. They are forcing me to go to the hospital to get checked out” you heard him say.
“Your welcome” you heard Chimney say in the background
“Well Thats probably for the best honey” you said.
“I need to see you and Christopher” he said, wincing in pain, “you two are what kept me fighting to get out”
“Well I’m so happy you did, I was so worried, I saw the news and freaked out a little, just listen to Hen and Chimney and let them help you”
“You heard the woman” Hen said
“Yes, ma’am” he said trying to laugh.
-
They released Eddie the next day around noon. The 3 of you spent the day relaxing as a family and preparing Christopher presentation for show and tell at school, which Eddie will be apart of.
You all had went to bed fairly early. You were woke up by the sound of screaming. You flipped on your lamp and saw Eddie sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Eddie, whats wrong?” You asked worried. He was panting and sweating.
“It was just a nightmare, I’m ok,” he said, looking over his shoulder “I’m sorry I woke you, go back to sleep”
You crawl over to him. You run your hand over his back. You feel his breathing ease up a little. You get on your knees and start massaging his shoulders.
“I’m here if you need to talk” you said, wrapping your arms around his neck and hugging him. He leans back and relaxes in your arms. Yall get back adjusted in bed and fall asleep with you holding him.
-
It was midnight when you noticed Eddie wasn’t in bed with you. You got up and went to look for him. You saw the glow of the light above the sink.
Eddie was sitting at the kitchen table staring into space, holding a cup of coffee. You touch his shoulder and he jumps a little.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you” you said giving him a worried look, sitting down next to him.
“I know that look, Y/n, I’m fine just a lot on my mind” he says. You can see how tired he is. You reach over and grab his hand.
“You know you can talk to me right? I’m your wife, you don’t have to hide anything from me” you said.
I’m okay, I promise, if something is wrong, you’ll be the first to know” he stands up and puts his coffee cups in the sink. He places his hands on the edge and leans against the counter, “can we just drop it?”
“Damn it, Eddie, I am the one who wake up next to you screaming in your sleep,” You say, “you can hide it from Bobby and Buck and the rest of the 118 but not from me.”
“I’m sorry, I’m just worried about you” you defend yourself, clearly getting upset.
He runs his hand through his dark hair, a look of guilt and frustration on his face. He sits back down in the kitchen chair.
“I know, look I’m sorry, but there is nothing to worry about” he said taking your hand into his and brushing hair out of your face with the other. You kiss his hand as his runs down your face
“I love you” you whisper
“I love you too, you and Christopher is what saved me in that well”he said, grabbing your hands“ I fought to come home to you, I will always fight to come home to the two of you”
The two of you sat holding hands in silence for a while. It would take a while but the two if you would heal together.

Shot - Evan Buckley
Tumblr media
Having a firefighter as a boyfriend and your brother being a firefighter came with a lot of stress. Today was supposed to be a day to get that stress away from you. You were on shift with the two firefighters to see what they were doing all day and how things were happening on calls. What you didn’t know was that today was going to cause you more stress then ever.
You were standing right outside of a house where the team rescued a kid from his mother who was poisoning him.
“That kid is lucky he met you,” Buck said to Eddie.
“I’m just glad we could help. It could’ve ended very bad.”
You were standing next to Buck. “It’s amazing how you do it. It goes so natural for you all. Besides, you look very good in that uniform,” you said to Buck with a smile on your face.
“Gross. I don’t have to hear how my sister likes our uniforms,” Eddie said with disgust.
You and Buck laughed about it. That was the moment it happened. You heard the shot before it hit someone. Your laughter got caught off. Before you could react, Buck fell to the ground. People were running away in fear. You stood frozen looking at Buck. Everything around you was moving in slowmotion.
“Y/N, get down!” Eddie yelled. He rushed towards you and pulled you to the side behind a fire truck. Another bullet hit the truck, just a few inches away from you. Buck was still laying on the street, bleeding out. You saw Buck moving. You looked him right in the eyes, and you saw the light going out in his eyes. You wanted to scream, yell at Eddie to do something, but nothing was coming out of your mouth. All you could do was lay down in total shock.
It happend so fast. Eddie crawled underneath the firetruck to get to Buck and dragged him to safety. They loaded him into the firetruck. Eddie helped you up from the ground, into the firetruck as well. With loud sirens the truck started to move. You couldn’t take your eyes off Buck. Eddie and another firefighter were working on stopping the bleeding. You couldn’t move.
“Are you okay?” Buck asked Eddie.
“Yes.”
“Y/n…”
“She’s okay. It’s not her blood. She’s in shock.”
Somehow you made it to the waiting room. You had no idea how you got there. You were wearing a different shirt, and Eddie was sitting in front of you. You could see his lips moving, but you didn’t hear anything. You just stared at him.
“She was standing next to Buck?” Hen asked.
“Yes. That bullet could’ve hit her,” Eddie said as he was cleaning the blood off his sisters face. She was covered in the blood of her boyfriend. She hasn’t made a sound since the incident. She barely moved.
“But nobody else was shot?” Bobby asked.
Eddie shook his head.
“There has been another shooting. Another firefighter has been shot,” Athena said as she walked to the group of firefighters.
“Are they targeting firefighters?” Chimney asked.
“Looks like it. I have to get out here. Keep me updated about Buck.” Athena kissed Bobby before walking away.
Eddie stood up and took a step away from you. “Hen, I’m worried about her,” he whispered.
“The doctor checked her out, didn’t they?”
“Yeah, said she was okay, but she doesn’t look okay. She is as pale as a ghost. She hasn’t’t moved and hasn’t said anything. She didn’t even cry or scream or whatever. It’s just that blank stare.”
“She saw her boyfriend getting shot, Eddie. She is in shock. Her mind is probably moving miles per hour, processing what she witnessed.”
Eddie sighed. He sat next to you and wrapped his arm around you, letting you know that he was there. He pulled her closer. It took a few moments before you completely broke down. Load sobs filled the room. Eddie pulled you on his lap, just like he did when you were younger and you were upset. You hurried your face in his neck ad cried until there was nothing left. Eddie kept repeating that everything was going to be okay, his heart shattering because of the cries of his sister.
After you cried, you fell asleep in Eddie his arms. You knew you were safe there. It took a while for the team to get some news about Buck. But finally they heard that he was okay and that he was going to be okay. You and Eddie where the only ones who could be able to see him for now. After Eddie woke you up, you went to see Buck. Eddie waited outside. Buck was hooked up to all kinds of machines. His right arm was in a sling. You stood frozen for a moment. When you met Bucks gaze, you could only whisper. “Can you move over? Only if it doesn’t hurt too much.”
He did what you asked without even saying anything. You kicked off your shoes and climbed into his bed, laying your head on his good shoulder. You grabbed his hand and the two of you just laid there in silence. You had no idea what to say. Your mind kept replaying what happened and it made you stick to your stomach every time. When you closed your eyes, it only got worse.
“I’m glad you’re okay,” Buck whispered.
“I’m glad you’re okay too,” your voice cracked.
Buck placed a kiss on your forehead. “We are okay. I’m going to be just fine. The doctors fixed me up really nice.”
“You could’ve died.”
“We both could’ve. I’m just glad that bullet hit me, and not you.”
“Don’t say that.” Your voice was only a whisper.
“But it’s true. I’d rather be here, then watching you lay in this bed.”
“It’s just not fair. Why you? What did you do wrong?”
“None of this is fair, but we’re going to be okay Y/N. We’re going to be okay. Eddie is okay, you’re okay and I’m okay.”
Eddie… You looked at the window, but he wasn’t there anymore. “The entire team is here, Buck,” you tried to change the subject.
“I can’t wait to see them.”
You sighed, snuggling closer to Buck.
He placed another kiss on your forehead. “We’re okay.”
“We’re okay,” you repeated.

Buck and Eddie: The Shooting vs. The Shocking
Buck & Eddie’s Relationship vs. Chimney & Hen’s Friendship
Part 1 of 3: The incidents
Please note: a more thorough analysis of Buck and Eddie’s relationship when compared with Hen and Chimney’s friendship was previously written, completed and posted by me on June 4, 2022 (related post).
There were major differences included in The Shooting and The Shocking scenes which highlighted the differences between Buck and Eddie’s relationship when compared with Chimney and Hen’s friendship.  Eddie was shot in 4x13 “Suspicion” and the aftermath was included in 4x14 “Survivors”.  Hen and Chimney were captured and Chimney’s heart was stopped twice by Jonah in 5x17 “Hero Complex”.
The first important difference between the two incidents involves the way they were filmed.  The Shooting was filmed in slow-motion to create suspense which could be linked to a plot that will be revealed at a later date regarding the characters but The Shocking was filmed in real-time.  Buck listens to Eddie, Eddie takes care of Buck and they truly know each other; therefore when Buck saw Eddie be gunned down by a sniper as they stood only a few feet apart, it was not only a traumatic experience for Buck but it was also the second time he almost lost Eddie.  It was very different from what happened in 3x15 “Eddie Begins” when Eddie was trapped in The Well because even though Buck was there too, he wasn’t trapped with Eddie which meant he could only hope that Eddie was still alive.  Hen watched as her best friend’s heart was stopped and it was different for her too since it wasn’t her first time almost losing Chimney (a rebar went through his skull in 1x3 “Next of Kin” and he was stabbed at the end of 2x11 “New Beginnings”).  However, 9-1-1 has consistently shown the difference between the roles Karen (her wife) and Chimney (her best friend) have in Hen’s life including in 5x17 when Hen called Karen first.  During their call, it was Karen who explained that she wasn’t the partner Jonah would be jealous of which prompted Hen to then go to Chimney’s apartment.
The second difference revolves around Buck’s and Hen’s reactions to the incidents.  Buck was in a catatonic state of shock after Eddie got shot, his blood splattered across Buck’s face and he remained that way even after Captain Mehta tackled him to the ground. He saw Eddie’s eyes close while they were laying in the middle of the street having one of their silent conversations with each other and that’s when he came out of shock long enough to save Eddie (related post). After he pulled Eddie underneath the ladder truck, he screamed at the members of the 133 and said, “You get him up!” so that he could place Eddie inside of the truck and out of the line of fire.  When Buck and the 133 took Eddie to the hospital, Buck returned to a catatonic state and he was barely coherent until he made it to Eddie’s house so that he could talk to Christopher. Hen cried and pleaded with Jonah and asked him several times to let Chimney go but he didn’t. Even though she was restrained, she remained both aware of her surroundings and Jonah’s actions while she kept her eyes on Chimney as she watched him move his hand towards the defibrillator.  Buck was in shock because he almost lost Eddie who is his everything for the second time, while Hen was crying for her best friend Chimney.
The third difference between the two incidents includes Eddie’s and Chimney’s responses.  Eddie was in and out of consciousness the entire time but he was cognizant enough to check on Buck.  Eddie was the one who got shot but as usual he was worried about Buck, so he asked him, “Are you hurt?” and Buck responded, “No, no, no. I’m good Eddie. You just hang on”.  Eddie’s legal name is “Edmundo”, it means “protector” and he’s been concerned about Buck’s safety several times in the past (related post).  Chimney’s response was different from Eddie’s and he was more focused on the way he and Hen worked together to stop Jonah. When Hen said, “You saved us”, Chimney responded, “It was a team effort”. Both incidents were traumatic but the implications made by 9-1-1 were clear and they further illustrated how these are two sets of 118 work partners, who mean completely different things to each other.

Eddie: "Well, the rain finally started." (aka the other shoe finally dropped as expected)
Buck: "It's kind of weird but it ended up being a really nice night. Kind of felt like we were an actual family."
Eddie: "You are an actual family."
Buck (with that little familiar smile and duck of his head): "It never felt that way before."
Bobby: "So maybe you all made some progress there. That's good. Life's too short to take those relationships for granted."
Eddie: "Sounds like your family had your back on the whole donation thing. That's definitely progress."
Buck: "No, they, uh, they totally thought that was an idiotic decision. They just weren't going to let Chimney's dad have the last word on it.
1, Eddie has no idea what he's about to be in for.
2, Eddie hasn't been in much of the episode which would be weird given how he was emotionally supportive and present for Buck back in season 4 when Buck's parents came around & it would be even weirder to bring Albert back for it but not Eddie. However, I see what they're doing here. This is about Buck, as we all know, and he & Eddie are not on the same page as evidenced not only be the sweat shirt/suspenders from the turnout gear locker scene but also Buck not being honest with Eddie about his parents' actual reaction to the donor news. Which would be weird considering again what happened in season 4 and how he had no problem being honest with Eddie (or Bobby) then, but this is all setting up Buck to go on this journey that we're about to see so he can come full circle in his arc himself. And he needs to do that himself in order for there to be the full growth/development he needs to experience in order to get to Buck 4.0 and set him up for his future (aka Buddie). So it's no coincidence that he's not being completely honest here with Eddie or Bobby (his father figure & the person that sometimes mirrors Eddie himself).
3, The universe is about to get very loud again. Buck isn't listening to it and it's obvious because of him just saying what he said to Eddie even though we the viewers know differently (and thus we are supposed to question just why Buck is telling Eddie and Bobby something different when we know Buck is probably over the moon about his parents' real reaction, primarily Eddie since they are facing each other & his answer is directly to Eddie's statement). Buck had no problem admitting that it felt like they were a family to Eddie and Bobby who both commented on it. But Eddie was the only one to bring up the donor issue (which means it's on his mind & most likely what's bothering him, just like in 6A when we saw the four-way phone call, also notice no Hen or Chim in the engine at this point, Chim who would call bull on what Buck just said & Hen who Buck confided in before everyone else about the donor decision) and that's when Buck gives him that line. The sperm donor issue isn't just an issue for Buck; it's an issue for Eddie, too. This cements it. The fact that Bobby doesn't comment on it or say anything akin to Eddie shows just who this issue is going to affect/impact moving forward. And I think iirc there was talk about a possible dating scenario for Eddie in this back half of the season? This all jives exactly with that scenario if it happens. Buck and Eddie need to get on the same page first before anything can happen.
4, Bobby! Life is too short to take those relationships for granted??? While it's being made obvious that Buck is still holding something from Eddie and vice versa? You're killing me here. Do I really have to wait another week to see how this is all going to play out with what's coming? Especially for Buck's life? 911 writers, have mercy!
5, for those who say Buddie isn't a real thing, it won't go canon, and whatever else: the fact that the universe (aka the writers/show) has gotten involved each and every single time when it comes to these two guys and their arcs means they're moving towards it. Accept it, love it, live it, and move on. The whole roadmap has been set out before us; season 7 is going to be lit.

summary: after a night out with the team for “bonding”, y/n and buck are the last two out and find out they’re more alike than they thought.
evan buckley x reader
a/n: i’m on s5 and i hate taylor and buck tgt. like respectfully STOP.
the team was out for drinks after their shift, after a successful day with no fatalities. they sat around a booth and exchanged stories and laughs about each other. y/n was sat between henrietta and chimney, who talked over to each other, and buck sat with eddie and bobby.
most had drinks, dripping onto a coaster. bobby and eddie had non-alcoholic drinks, sipping at the skinny straws. y/n takes sips of her cocktail, her second of the night. she sits directly across from buck, giving a sweet smile at him while he laughs at something eddie said.
the night goes on and they all pick at a shrinking basket of fries. the chatting of everyone else in the bar fades out, and the lonesome people start coming in.
“alright, guys. i think i’m gonna head home,” eddie interrupts after a bit. “told chris i’d be home soon. hen, chim?”
“coming! just let me get one more sip.” chim says, leaning down to take another gulp of his drink. his words slur together quickly and y/n moves out of the booth.
“ok, i think someone’s ready to go home.” hen says. eddie was their driver home, because neither of them were clearly in the position to be behind the wheel.
after a bit of talking with their captain, bobby stands up and grabs his coat. “athena’s probably waiting up for me.”
“ooh, time at home with the sergeant!” y/n jokes and winks at buck, who whistles.
bobby shrugs and laughs, “you kids need a ride home?”
“nah, i’ll just call an uber.”
“me too.” y/n says.
“alright, see you tomorrow.” he walks away, grabbing his car keys and the door slams behind him. the two sigh, trying to conceal the awkward silence between them.
buck has always had eyes for y/n. ever since she came to the station, she was nice but also dominated her space. she was smart and polite. she was able to help others and had the biggest heart at the station. buck didn’t want to get himself back into a bad habit, especially with a co-worker. he figured he’d had enough of the sleeping around and just hoping one sticks. however, when y/n got transferred and walked in asking for the captain, bucks eyes lit up.
y/n saw buck as more than a co-worker as well. she worked well with him, and he always brought in the best energy. every single morning, he walked in with a smile and pure excitement to work. she admired him, but she didn’t think things would end up working out in this line of work.
the two had the same thoughts, too similar and that is what kept them distanced. they worked together a lot, shamefully flirting and everyone saw it. they’d been teased by everyone and still weren’t able to come together.
y/n stands up and goes to order another cocktail at the bar. “i’m gonna go grab another drink, you want something while i’m there?”
“o-oh, you’re not leaving?”
“no, not yet. nothing waiting for me at home, so i’m staying. you?” she gets disappointed, thinking he’s on his way out to follow the crowd.
“wasn’t thinking of it.” says buck. she lets out a wide smile and turns around. buck notices her outfit, admiring her body language and how she carrie’s herself with such grace. her jeans with the leather jacket were his favorite, looking her up and down with impression. she saunters back over and sits down with her drink filled to the brim.
“looks like we pushed the rest of them away,” y/n laughs. “losers.”
buck chuckles and looks around. the lights of the bar are dimmed for the night and people clear out, with a few groups at tables and most people sitting at the stools.
“so,” buck breaks the silence first.
“so.” y/n says, and they both laugh at each others awkwardness. “i mean, i’d talk about work but we do the same thing.”
“well, do you like 118?” he asks. “hopefully we aren’t too discombobulated for you.”
“oh, it’s perfect. so much better than the last.”
“where did you work last?”
“128, hell on earth.” her smile fades away while saying that.
“i’ve heard some things, but what can i hear first hand?”
“just awful people, didn’t do it for the people, just for their own ranking and how they could make an impression. and god forbid you did anything to actually change a community.” she shakes her head in a shame.
“ugh, i’m glad i didn’t have that.”
“you weren’t anywhere before?” he gives her a sly look. “oh god, what is that look for?”
“well, let’s see. NAVY seal, and then peru.”
“peru?” she smiles and giggles. “what did you do there?”
“i was a bartender. made a pretty mean margarita if i do say so myself.”
“huh, i’ll have to try one sometime.” he looks back up, making eye contact with her.
“you got anywhere to be?” she swallows the drink in her mouth and says, “do i look like i have somewhere to be?”
“perfect.” he raises his voice, “can we get a round over here?”
————————————————————————
the two down another tequila shot, squinting at the burn and hissing.
“ok well, you’ve had to had a crazy job like me before this.”
“no, i cant say it…” she laughs out and he tries pulling the answer out.
“cmon! i basically went around the country finding jobs, can’t be that bad.”
“fine. well my first job was scooping ice cream at a shop that was practically falling apart, i walked some dogs, and then i got a job as product tester in high school.”
“a produ- what did you test?”
“you don’t wanna know.” she takes another shot from off the tray and he starts laughing. “it’s not that funny, buck!”
“no it’s just, wow.” he wipes fake tears off his cheek, and even though it wasn’t that funny, his lack of sobriety and complete adoration for her made him smile.
y/n feels her phone buzz in her back pocket and she pulls it out while she mutters something else out. buck notices the fading of her previous smile and frowns at her upset. “you okay?”
“yeah, fine. it’s just my mom.” she says quietly.
“well, if it makes you feel any better, my mom doesn’t text me.” he tries comforting her with his own uncomfortable thought.
“it’s just about her golden child’s birthday. we have to pitch in for a gift and if it doesn’t come in on time, it’s gonna be this one’s fault.” she says, pointing to herself.
“oh jesus, let me guess, you’re not the golden child?”
“ouch, that was forward.”
“no! no, that’s not what i meant,” he tries cleaning up the mess of his words. “i mean i’m not golden child either, was all maddie, really. hell it was neither of us.”
“growing up with brothers, i was always their shadow…”
————————————————————————
downing another shot, they both slam it down on the table at the same time. “it’s just stupid, you know? i get told every day how i saved someone’s life and all i get from them is how i made theirs harder.”
“exactly! everything i did my parents just watched in complete disappointment!” he admits.
“my mom always favorited my brothers at different times, whenever it was convenient for her. i think it was me maybe, one time, for a few days.”
“maddie and i was not the favorite ever, really.” buck says. “we were kinda just there for extra parts. they couldn’t even approve of my job, hated all of them.”
“same here. our parents just seem like they were obsessed with themselves and how we could make them better.”
“preach,” they clink their glasses and shove down another one. “you know, i don’t think any one else at the station knows this.”
“oh, no one else knows this.” she hiccups. “it’s ok though, i’ll tell them everything tomorrow.” she jokes around and slaps his bicep. “you’re just so easy to talk to about this. like i feel like no one ever will understand what it’s like to grow up knowing you don’t mean as much as them.”
“i wish i didn’t understand, but we can’t choose our families, so i made this my family.”
“the bar?”
“no, the station” he breaks out a shining smile at her. “everyone there, bobby, hen, chim, eddie, you.”
she tilts her head at the last one. she never realized he thought of her as family, but she felt the same. they feel accepted at 118, rather than in their own house, it feels like constant scrutiny.
“you are my family, too.” the two look into each others eyes, seeing a new hue of each others colors, reading a new chapter of their story. “i mean, i just told you what i say to a therapist, so you’re stuck with me.”
“no one else id rather be stuck with.” a toothy smile grows on each of their faces and they smile intensely at each other. they lean a little closer over the table, elbows laying on the edge. “can i kiss you, y/n?”
her breaths are shaky and irregular and her heart might burst out of her chest. her hands become a little sweaty, and suddenly, the emotion and sadness from the conversation fades away as she nods.
they connect their lips and her hands make their way to the side of his face, pulling him in. almost like fireworks went off between them, and realizing they were more similar than they thought was the match that set it off. his hand made his way to her neck and they melted into each other.
buck was the first to pull away, placing his forehead on hers. “sorry, i’ve just wanted to do that for so long.”
“don’t be sorry, oh my god.” she exhales. “i’ve wanted this since the second i walked into that station.”
buck smiles for the hundredth time that night, his cheeks felt like they might be sore. the rosy red on both of their cheeks were matching and he finally whispers out.
“y/n, do you wanna come home with me tonight?” she grabs his hand and gives it a light squeeze.
“id love nothing more, buckaroo.”

Baby Trapping Buck
Tumblr media
For @buddiebingo free space prompt: The Will Pairings: Buck/Eddie, Hen/Karen, Karen & Buck, minor Eddie/Ana Warnings: not Ana friendly, post Survivors  Word Count: 3,413 Summary: "Eddie made me guardian of Christopher if anything was to happen to him." Buck was pretty drunk on the wine and he had been wanting to tell someone this soon.
Karen stared at Buck, "Baby you know that means that he baby trapped you."
Karen wanted to coo at how adorable Buck looked when he blinked at her in pure confusion, "What do you mean?"
"Oh, honey. Eddie has made it clear that no matter who comes into your lives they will know that they will never mean as much to you as he and Christopher do." Karen explained. Also on AO3
Karen and Buck are wine drinking buddies Hen and Eddie are still certain that is a bad idea. But tonight Buck didn't care about that. Buck needed his drinking buddy, he needed someone to talk to about what he learned at the hospital, the bomb Eddie had dropped on him and since Ana had walked in and practically told Buck that he wasn't needed tonight - or any night that went unsaid - Buck knew that Hen was on shift and Denny was at a sleepover with Henry and Christopher at Bobby and Athena's house.
Opening the door Karen raised an eyebrow at the two bottles in Buck's hands, "You brought the good stuff. If I wasn't a lesbian and married to the most amazing woman I would marry you right now. Come on in we have a few bottles to drink."
Smiling Buck happily followed Karen to the kitchen where the wine glasses were waiting and once they were full they headed to the living room.
They each took a sip before placing them down and Karen was reaching across and giving Buck a hug he so dearly needed. Karen felt him melt into her and she ran a soothing hand up and down his back. "It's okay, baby, you can let it out around me." She couldn't even begin to imagine what Buck had gone through that day watching Eddie - the love of his life - get shot right before him, having his blood on his face and in his mouth Hen had told her that Buck had been in complete shock as Bobby and Chimney took him to the washroom to clean up.
She couldn't imagine what she would have done if it had been Hen.
A choked sob escaped Buck and the next thing he knew he was sobbing in Karen's embrace.
"Oh, sweetheart." Karen soothed. "Let it out."
"I can't stop seeing him get shot and every time I try to sleep I relive it over and over again, some nights I see myself under the fire truck pinned and unable to get to Eddie and those are the worst. Eddie and Christopher have almost been taken from me twice. I don't think I can handle losing them again but I need to prepare myself because Ana is already taking my place and soon I will be nothing but Eddie's co-worker and friend that he sometimes sees outside of work." Buck knew it was only a matter of time before it happened.
Karen pulled back so she could look Buck in the eyes, "That will never happen. You are a part of the Diaz family and Ana will just have to accept that." Karen didn't know much about Ana, she only saw her a few times in passing at the hospital but she knows Eddie and Christopher and Christopher will fight tooth and nail against anyone who tries to take Buck away from him, that includes his dad's girlfriend.
Pulling back Buck wiped away his tears, "Okay enough of that we have wine to drink."
+*****+
One bottle was done and halfway into the second the subject that Buck had been aching to talk about with someone finally came up.
"Eddie made me guardian of Christopher if anything was to happen to him." Buck was pretty drunk on the wine and he had been wanting to tell someone this soon.
Tilting his head Buck studied her, "But he's dating Ana." Buck tried not to sound bitter but he knows he failed.
Karen gave him a knowing look, "Oh baby that relationship isn't going to last. He doesn't look at her the way he looks at you and Chris will never love her as much as he loves you. And Eddie will never love her as much as he loves you. He just needs to get his head out of his ass and go after what he wants."
Buck brighten up as a thought hit him, "He was pouty and jealous that I was teaming up with Taylor and not him for the treasure hunt!"
A smirk appeared on Karen's face, "Buck, Eddie is jealous of the cats you rescue out of the trees because they get to be carried in those big arms of yours where they are cradled against your chest of course he is jealous of Taylor because she has gotten a taste of what he considers his."
At that moment Buck looked every bit like the golden retriever he was compared to. "I heard Hen and Chimney teasing Eddie for looking at my ass instead of watching the ladder. That might be why Eddie isn't allowed to hold the ladder anymore when I go up to rescue a cat."
A thoughtful look appeared on Karen's face as she nodded and took a sip of her wine, "I can see that. That boy has got it bad for you. He wants to strip you and lick every inch of you and mark you up so no one ever doubts that you belong to him."
"All he has to do is ask and I'd let him. But not in the firehouse, Bobby is like my dad and Chimney is my brother and Hen is my big sister. And nowhere public because it would be my luck and Athena would be the one to see us." Buck shuddered at the thought of Athena seeing him and Eddie naked and in the middle of sex.
"Eddie isn't ready to face mama bear Athena. When you get together you better be the one to tell Athena you and Eddie are dating and that he baby trapped you before putting a ring on your finger." Karen liked Eddie she would like him to remain in one piece.
Buck gave a solemn nod, "Mama bear Athena is a scary Athena."
Karen could only nod, "Now on to more fun and important things will you be Evan Diaz or Evan Buckley-Diaz because I can see Eddie having a thing for you wearing his name. That man would never let you out of sight."
A giggle escaped Buck, "I like Evan Diaz myself."
+*****+
Standing outside her house Hen sent up a quick prayer to whoever was listening that Karen and Buck behaved because she didn't have Eddie to take Buck home and that boy was like an octopus when he got drunk.
"Oh boy," Hen muttered under her breath as she was greeted by the sight of giggling between Karen and Buck and the two bottles of wines on the table. "This is why it is a bad idea to leave the two of you alone without supervision."
"Hen!" Karen cried at the sight of her wife and yes she might have stumbled as she got to her feet but it didn't matter because she made and to Hen where she greeted her wife with a kiss.
"I need to go see Eddie."
Hen wasn't at all surprised at Buck's demand but it was eyebrow raising at how serious Buck looked, "And why is that Buckaroo?"
"To know why Ed's baby trapped me."
Hen was thankful she had nothing in her mouth at that moment because she was certain she would have choked, "I'm sorry? Could you explain that?"
Buck looked like sunshine as he bounced in his spot, "Eddie made me guardian of Christopher so if anything happens to him, not that I want anything to happen to my Eds, Chris comes to me."
Buck looked heartbroken at the thought of something happening to Eddie and Hen wanted nothing more than to hug him and she wasn't surprised when Karen did.
"Don't worry honey, Eddie will walk through hellfire to come home to you and Christopher, you know that."
Buck could only nod, he knew that Karen is right.
Pulling back Karen wiped away the tears that lingered on Buck's face, "Now let's go get your man, if he wants you as his other baby daddy he needs to step up and claim that cute ass of yours."
Looking to the sky Hen wondered if she should alert Eddie that they were coming. But watching Karen and Buck trip over their own feet she knew she wouldn't have time she had her hands full.
+*****+
"Really  Ana I can look and take my medication without you feeding them to me." Eddie clenched out, he knew that Ana was trying to help him but she had been pushing it all evening, he had been on edge since she cut his food for him and tried to feed it to him.
A pout appeared on Ana's face, "I am just trying to help. I bet if it was Buck you would accept his help."
And that was another thing all evening Ana had been making snide remarks about Buck which were getting on his last nerve and he was this close to asking her to leave, he would be fine by himself or at least until Buck got back.
'Don't drag Christopher down with you.' His parent's words kept ringing in his head and he stuck it out with Ana trying to make it work with her because she is the perfect woman that when he brought her home he might get their respect.
'But this isn't what your heart wants or what Christopher wants. You know what you both want and that is your life with Buck. To things to go back to the way they were before Ana came into it and slowly took Buck's place.' The little voice in Eddie's head whispered and he couldn't deny it spoke the truth.
Christopher thought he likes Ana Eddie can see that the sparkle he has when Buck is around dimmed the more and more Ana tries and takes over. Christopher likes Ana but he loves Buck. 'Like father like son.'
He had tried to picture a life with Ana in Buck's place but he couldn't she just didn't fit. He knew that he was going to have to sit her down and break up with her but he didn't know how he knows for certain that the longer this relationship goes on the harder it will be.
Any thoughts of talking to Ana were interrupted when there was a knock on his door before it was clumsily opened and Buck came stumbling in.
"Did you baby trap me?"
Eddie froze at Buck's question. Buck looked adorably drunk with his flush cheeks and blue eyes that seemed to glow with happiness.
A muffled laugh and gasp reminded him that they weren't alone. Hen was standing behind Buck in the doorway looking beyond amused by everything and he didn't need to turn around to see the hurt and angry look on Ana's face he could feel her glare burning on his back.
"Eds?"
Okay, so Eddie was utterly weak when Buck used his puppy dog eyes on him, "Who told you that?"
Buck's face lit up into a large smile, "Karen told me and she's the smartest of us all." A giggle escaped Buck's perfect pink lips and Eddie wanted nothing more than to kiss them, even more so when a pout appeared on Buck's face, "I wish I could snuggle you Eds but I don't want to hurt you."
And Eddie? Well, he just melted, "You could never hurt me, Buck." And God did he want nothing more than to be able to hug Buck and never let him go.
Buck's eyes were soft as he stumbled towards Eddie and somehow managed to lift his hands and stroke his face, "I want to kiss you but I can't because you have a girlfriend and even though Ana doesn't like me I respect your relationship too much to come between that but Karen reassured me that you too aren't going to last because you don't look at her like you look at me." The blond sunshine babbled out.
That was a lot to process and for a moment all Eddie could focus on was the fact that Buck, his Buck, wants to kiss him.
"You made him Christopher's guardian? What were you thinking Edmundo? That man is not fit to care for someone as special as Christopher!" Ana couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her gaze soften she was certain that Buck had somehow tricked Eddie into this in another desperate way to cling to her dear Edmundo.  "I understand that you have a dangerous job and that you might not want to uproot Christopher from his life here in LA, we can change it so that I take care of Christopher, after all, I will be his stepmother soon."
"That is not happening. Buck is Christopher's guardian and where is this soon-to-be stepmother coming from? We aren't getting married anytime soon if at all." Eddie couldn't believe the gall of Ana insulting Buck and then trying to replace him as Christopher's guardian and he had no plans of marrying Ana.
Ana opened and closed her mouth unable to form the words, she had been so certain that they were on the same page that they were heading towards marriage, to become a real family.
"His name is Eddie, not Edmundo." Buck huffed out, he knew how much Eddie hated being called Edmundo but still Ana refused to listen to him.
Eddie forgot how petty drunk Buck could be when he wasn't clinging or seeking cuddles.
Letting out a huff Ana crossed her arms and glared at Buck as she curtly informed him, "Edmundo lets me call him that because I am his girlfriend."
A sort escaped Karen as she informed her, "Honey, I am Hen's wife and I rarely call her Henrietta."
Buck nodded happy Karen has his back, "And Maddie calls Chimney Howie because he doesn't like to be called Howard and they have a child together, my adorable niece Jee-Yun." Buck got that look on his face when he talked about Christopher and Jee, he loved them both so much and Eddie once again was overtaken with the urge to kiss him. "So how come they can respect their partner's wishes but you can't?" Buck questioned Ana Karen giving her a knowing look at Ana.
"They do have a point. Time and time again I have asked you to call me Eddie but you ignore me and my discomfort." Shrugging his good shoulder Eddie pointed out when Ana looked to him for support.
"I think it is because you have made Edmundo into your version of a perfect man when Eddie is already amazing! You don't know the real Eddie because you don't want to let go of the fantasy life you created in your head." Buck added sounding so offended on Eddie's behalf.
"I think you are amazing too Evan." From the way, Hen was snickering his heart eyes were out in full force and Eddie didn't give a damn, how couldn't he look at Buck like he was the moon and the stars? Buck and Christopher are his everything.
Whirling around Eddie faced Ana and the words he had struggled to find no longer seemed that hard. "Ana, thank you for your help these past few weeks but we both see this relationship going in different ways. Buck is right you want Edmundo, not Eddie, you want the handsome and brave firefighter that you can brag about. You want to make a life with Edmundo and that isn't who I am. And you aren't who I want." Eddie's gaze moved back to Buck who was looking at him like he hung the sun in the sky.
"Edmundo, you can't be serious?" Ana didn't screech but it was higher than normal.
"I am. I'm sorry Ana but this just isn't what I want. It is time I follow my heart." Eddie turned to Buck.
"Me?" Buck asked hope in his voice.
The smile that Hen and the rest of the firefam dubbed his Buck smile appeared on Eddie's face, "I do Buck and I'll remind you of that in the morning."
"Kay." Buck just looked at him dopey in a lovesick way that Eddie loves.
"Well, then I will see myself out." Ana gathered up her things and left with her head held high. 'When Edmundo comes to his sense I will make him beg and then take him back.'
"I think we should leave the lovebirds alone." Hen commented as she tugged Karen by the arm who was watching everything with a sappy smile on her face.
"You're right, they deserve to be alone for a while." Karen went willing with Hen.
Pressing a kiss against her wife's lips Hen grinned at her, "You are an amazing person Karen Wilson and I love you with my whole heart. Now let's get home so you can get to bed to sleep off the wine."
Karen let out a happy sigh, "Mmm and you should check the 118th chat Buck might have asked others if they thought Eddie had baby trapped him."
"I do not pity Eddie." Hen knew that was going to unleash a hornet's nest.
+*****+
Locking the door behind the Wilson's Eddie turned to Buck who was beginning to sway on his feet. "Come Buck let's get to bed. And before you ask you will be sharing my bed."
"I like that. I want to wake up in bed next to you with your legs entwined with mine and when you are better I want to cuddle you like I have been dreaming to for years." Buck didn't realize the effect he was having on Eddie.
"I want that too. I want that all too Buck."
+*****+
Morning greeted Buck with a headache and a feeling of warmth next to his. Groaning Buck forced his eyes open and was greeted by a sight that came right out of his dreams Eddie was laying in bed next to him, his bad shoulder resting on a pillow and Eddie's honey brown eyes were looking straight into his.
Last night came rushing back to Buck. "Did that really happen? Did I really ask if you had baby trapped me?"
A grin tugged at Eddie's lips, "That it did and do you remember me telling you that you are everything I want? That you are who I want to spend my life with?"
"I do. I didn't say it last night but I am going to say it now, I love you Eddie Diaz and I want to spend my life with you and Christopher."
"I love you too Evan and that is what Christopher and I want."
Shifting closer Buck rested his head on Eddie's good shoulder, "Can I kiss you now?"
"Please." Eddie had been dying to kiss Buck for years and here he was asking for something he was so willing to give him for free.
Lifting himself Buck pressed a kiss against Eddie's life it was everything they both dreamed it would be, it was like coming home, finding the place that they belong, everything slotted into place.
Pulling back Eddie and Buck gazed at one another love in their eyes.
Shifting back so he was tucked against Eddie's side both drifted off to sleep the rest of the world could wait for a little longer.
+*****+
A few hours later the two forced themselves out of bed and got ready for the day they were snuggled on the couch and Eddie finally check his phone.
"Buck, do you know why May is warning me that Athena is looking to give me that talk about why I baby trapped you before marrying you?" Eddie asked looking amused.
Buck looked sheepishly, "Umm I think I remember Karen and me asking the firefam chat if you did in fact baby trap me."
A chuckle escaped Eddie, "And this is why you and Karen shouldn't be left alone chaos finds you."
"You're not mad?" Buck asked looking at him with puppy dog eyes.
"No baby I'm not mad." Eddie pressed a kiss on Buck's temple. "We will deal with that later right now is for us and Christopher when he gets home."

My Emotions Are Naked Chapter 2 (Buddie Fanfic)
Tumblr media
“It’s a queer club,” Eddie grumbled leaning against the door and resting his head on the cold window. “That’s what Nick called it.”
“Who the hell is Nick now?” Buck asked
“The bartender,” Eddie replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He rolled his head to rest it on the headrest and watched Buck. Buck was so beautiful. Eddie had a strong urge to lean in and kiss his adorable birthmark.
“Eddie,” Buck sighed. “You still haven’t told me what you were doing at this queer club.”
“I was getting drunk and hanging out with Alex,” Eddie replied.
“Alex. Right.” There it was—that tone of voice again. “Have you met Alex before?”
Eddie reached out to play with the radio. “No, I met him today but it feels like I’ve known him forever.” He stopped when he heard a station playing “I Want It That Way” and smiled. “Hey! That’s Alex’s song!”
Eddie heard Buck sigh again and he didn’t ask anything else. “How did you know what type of a club it was?” Eddie asked.
“I’ve been there before,” Buck replied.
“Oooooh… You have?” Eddie asked grinning.
“Yes, I came here with Hen and Chimney once during Pride Month,” Buck told him. “We sang karaoke.”
“Oh.” Eddie couldn’t hide the disappointment from his voice. He really thought Buck wasn’t necessarily straight and that’s how he found himself at this club.
They soon reached Eddie’s house and Buck helped Eddie again, taking him inside. Once in his bedroom, Buck let Eddie lie down and took off his shoes and belt. “Oof, buy me dinner first,” Eddie chuckled when Buck started pulling his jeans down.
“I always buy you dinner,” Buck simply told him and helped Eddie into his sweats. He knew Eddie so well. Eddie hated sleeping in jeans.
“That you do, my friend,” Eddie giggled and wiggled around to pull his blanket close to himself. “Stay,” he said reaching for Buck’s hand when Buck started to leave.
“I was gonna go pick up your truck and bring it back here,” Buck told him. “Wouldn’t want it to get broken into overnight.”
“We can do that tomorrow morning,” Eddie whined.
“I won’t be long,” Buck promised.
Eddie pouted as he watched Buck leave. He tried to stay awake for his return and picked up his phone from the nightstand. He was starting to sober up so he managed to unlock it and saw a message from Alex.
-Hope you got home okay-
Eddie smiled when he saw the message and replied -Yeah, I did. What about you?-
-Oh hey! You replied! I didn’t think you would- Alex replied and then sent a second message. -I’m just waiting for my Uber-
-Well I’m glad you’re being responsible, Dr. Williams (;-
A few minutes passed before Eddie got another message. -The funniest thing just happened. The Uber that picked me up dropped off your friend Buck here. I don’t think Buck likes me very much ):-
-He’s like that with new people. You should have seen how he reacted to me when we first met- Eddie replied.
-Well, that does make me feel a little better- Alex texted back. -Anyway, are we still up for this Saturday?-
-I thought you wouldn’t want to after I called you Buck earlier-
-You remember that?- Alex asked -And no, you’re good. I can see why you’re so hung up over him. The guy is cute-
-Are you hitting on Buck?- Eddie couldn’t help but feel a little jealous.
-No, no, of course not- Alex replied. -I was just being observant.- Before Eddie could reply, there was another text. -So, Saturday?-
-Saturday sounds perfect- Eddie replied. -Are you home yet?-
Instead of a text reply, Eddie got a photo this time with Alex standing in front of a door. -Just got home- the caption read.
Eddie smiled at the picture, and his eyes started to close when he heard his truck outside. Soon the front door opened and closed. A minute or two later, Buck was in the room with a water bottle.
“You’re still awake?” Buck asked.
“Yeah, was just waiting up for you,” Eddie replied and offered him a smile.
Buck came over and set the water bottle on the nightstand before taking a seat next to Eddie. “Feeling better?”
“Well, my head has stopped spinning like a helicopter blade so that’s good,” Eddie joked.
“Here, have some water.” Buck helped Eddie sit up and gave him the water bottle.
Eddie drank the water before lying back down. “Thanks, Buck.”
“Of course. I’ll be in the living room if you need anything,” Buck told him and got up.
Eddie caught Buck’s wrist. “Don’t leave. You can sleep in here.”
“It’s okay, Eds, I can sleep on the sofa,” Buck told him.
“Buck, come on, it’s not like we’ve never shared a bed before,” Eddie pointed out.
Buck looked like he wanted to protest again but then he sighed and nodded. “Okay.” He took off his shoes and got into bed.

kissing the top of their head, pretty please
This got real soft lol.
Also combing with @tylerhunklin's prompt: 25. stroking the other’s arm soothingly
[Read on AO3]
Buck wakes to a hand on his shoulder. That’s—wrong, he thinks, until he remembers where he is. Eddie’s house, Eddie’s couch, Eddie’s hand shaking him awake.
“Buck,” he’s saying quietly. “Hey, you with me?”
“Mm,” Buck manages, which is supposed to mean yes but comes out sounding more like a no.
Eddie rubs his arm, coaxing, and Buck tries to find the strength to open his eyes. He’s sure he didn’t feel this bad when he fell asleep (accidentally, halfway through a movie), but now he can’t escape the way that everything hurts. His head, his throat, his joints. He shifts uncomfortably and it’s like a kaleidoscope of aches and pains across his body.
“Hey,” Eddie says again, soft and concerned. He pushes back a few of Buck’s wayward curls from his forehead, then lets his hand linger there, cool enough to make Buck sigh.
There’s something he’s supposed to say here. Something reassuring, maybe, but Buck opens his mouth and what comes out, raspy and weak, is, “I don’t feel well.”
“Yeah,” Eddie agrees, like he was… expecting this? Like he saw some sign that Buck missed. “You wanna sit up a minute? Take some Tylenol, drink some water?”
Not really, Buck wants to say. All he wants to do is slip back under and sleep until he wakes feeling better, but he’s pretty sure that Eddie isn’t going to take no for an answer. He gives a tired nod instead and lets Eddie help him sit up. His hand shakes around the glass, and the pills are hell on his throat, but Eddie is warm when Buck leans into him.
This is why he didn’t go back to his apartment after the shift even though he was already starting to feel bad, he thinks. Eddie’s warmth, Eddie looking after him. Eddie.
Buck shivers, pressing closer, and Eddie shifts just enough to get an arm around him, wrapping Buck up in a proper hug.
“Bed?” he suggests, but bed requires moving. Energy. Buck makes a vague, in a minute kind of noise and lets his eyes close.
Eddie’s hand is on his arm again, tracing soothing patterns, and Buck can’t explain the way it suddenly makes him want to cry. He sniffs, squeezing his eyes shut against the burn of tears, throat aching more sharply with the swell of emotion. He doesn’t know if it’s the hitch in his breathing, or if Eddie catches the edge of his expression, or if it’s just some innate Buck-radar that he has, but he pauses, then lifts his hand to nudge Buck’s chin up until he can get a good look at his face.
“What’s wrong?”
Buck shakes his head. Can’t explain.
“Okay,” Eddie murmurs, rubbing his back, the ghost of lips at the top of his head. “You’re okay, I’ve got you.”
Buck is helpless to stop the tears that trickle out, but he’s not really crying. He feels too awful to cry properly. It’s just tears, and his nose starting to run, and then Eddie pressing a tissue into his hand.
“Sorry,” Buck manages, and the Tylenol definitely hasn’t kicked in yet because it fucking hurts.
Eddie shakes his head. “Nothing to be sorry for.”
He says it like he means it and, even now, even after years, Buck doesn’t know quite what to do with that. It’s a tightrope balancing act: wanting Eddie to look after him and feeling guilty about wanting it.
(If he asked Dr. Copeland, she’d probably say that it’s another thing he can blame his parents for.)
For a long time, Maddie was the only person Buck had to look after him—really look after him, with gentle words and soothing touches—and then she left, and for a long time after that he had no one but himself. Until—
Hen, first. Then Bobby and Chimney.
Maddie again, when she came back.
And now, impossible as it seemed at first: Eddie. Always Eddie.
“Come on,” Eddie says. Gentle words and soothing touches. “You’ll be more comfortable in bed.”
Moving still feels impossible, but it’s less impossible with Eddie helping. He pulls Buck to his feet, and holds him when he sways, and sits on the edge of the bed after pulling the covers up to his chin.
“Do you need anything?” he asks, quietly, brushing back Buck’s hair.
Buck shakes his head, too tired to find an answer that isn’t just you. He doesn’t want Eddie to leave and doesn’t know how to ask him to stay. But—maybe he doesn’t have to. Maybe Eddie doesn’t want to go either. He stays sitting on the edge of the bed, with his gentle words and soothing touches, and when Buck slips back into sleep, he does so knowing that Eddie is still there. That he isn’t alone. That now, always, he is looked after.

I Bought A Ring (e.b.)
Tumblr media
Summary: Abby’s back and Buck doesn’t know how to handle the news. And neither do you.
AN: i’m still PISSED that abby came back even if only for an episode, my poor buck was so hurt ): this was something i had deep in my drafts and now that buck is blowing up it seemed like a good time to post it!
there is a buck fic similar to this and i just wanna say that i did not copy or steal the idea. i’ve had this in my drafts for months since season 3 ended so no one stole anyone’s idea! if you wanna check out their fic their username is @lotsoflovefromlea and the fic is titled ‘Second Best’ it’s really really good
You didn’t think you’d have to face the day when Buck’s past came back to haunt him. You were hoping it would stay in the past and you would be his future. But life has a funny way of putting us to the test.
After the train crash, and Buck saw Abby again, he had been acting distant. Distant enough for you to notice that something was wrong. It wasn’t hard to notice, especially when the two of you live together.
He would rarely talk when you had the same shift at the 118, there was no conversation during dinner and he’d come to bed long after you had already fallen asleep.
It had gotten to the point where you didn’t even remember the last time he kissed you or touched you. And you had enough of the maltreatment.
You exited the shower and saw him standing in the kitchen, leaning against the counter. You walked down the stairs and stood across from him, the tension between the two of you painfully obvious.
“What’s been going on with you?” You asked, breaking the ice. “What do you mean?” He asked, not meeting your gaze. “Seriously? Buck, you’ve been acting like I killed your dog for three weeks since the train crash. What the hell is going on?” You explained.
Buck sighed before looking up at you. He knew he couldn’t keep secrets from you. Including ones that could possibly change your relationship.
“Abby reached out to me. She wanted to meet up to talk.” He said. Buck could tell by the way your right eyebrow was raised and your eyes narrowed that you were not happy. “Really? And you went?” You asked. “Yeah.” Buck answered quietly.
You laughed bitterly before walking around the counter back towards the stairs. “God, you just can’t seem to let her go, can you?” You started. “It’s been, what? Two years? Two years since she left you for her ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ experience and got engaged? And who was the one who never left your side? Me. It was me, Evan and even now, you can’t seem to realize how terrible she was to you. Face it, you were her midlife crisis and you fell in love with her and never fell back out. All while making me fall in love with you.” You finished.
Sure you were a tad bit cruel, but it was what he needed to hear. No one wanting to be the one who had to pop his perfect bubble when it came to Abby.
“I stayed with you when you were suing the department for christ sake! And I can’t do it anymore, Evan.” You added. There it was again. His dreaded first name. The name you never used unless you were beyond angry with him. And he hated hearing it come from your lips. “Y/N, what do you mean?” He asked.
Fear was coursing through his body as he waited for you to finally leave him. After everything he put you through, Abby was the last straw.
“I mean, maybe we should take a break. Until you figure out what it is you really want.” You answered. It wasn’t something you wanted nor did you think it would ever happen. “No. No, no, Y/N, don’t do this.” He begged, walking towards you. “I have too. Since she came back, this relationship has been one sided and I don’t deserve that.” You said.
“Please, Y/N, I love you.” Buck told you. “Do you? Because you have a funny way of showing it.” You replied. You swiftly grabbed your keys and your purse and made a path towards the exit. “So this is it? You’re breaking up with me?” Buck asked, causing you to stop.
“I don’t want to. But you seem to have unresolved feelings for Abby and you can’t claim to love one person wholeheartedly when you clearly don’t. Figure it out, Buck. But remember who was here when no one else was.” You answered before leaving the house.
You didn’t know where else to go after you left. So you decided to go to Bobby and Athena’s. Bobby was like a father to you when you joined the 118 and you trusted him more than you trusted most people.
After trying to straighten yourself up and wipe the tears from your face, you got out of the car and headed to the front door. You knocked a couple of times and waited for the door to open.
When it did, Athena’s face softened when she saw you and instantly knew something was wrong. “Y/N? What’s wrong? What happened?” She asked, ushering you inside. “I didn’t know where else to go.” You answered.
Bobby, wondering who was at the door, turned the corner and saw you standing in the entryway. “Y/N, what’s wrong?” He asked. “Buck and I got into a fight. He went to meet up with Abby and he didn’t tell meand I just, I just don’t understand why he won’t let her go. Am I not enough?” You explained.
Athena shushed you and pulled you into a hug to comfort you. She knew Buck was stubborn but not so much that you felt you had to leave. Bobby was furious. He hated seeing you so upset and he was frustrated with the young man for making you think you weren’t enough for him.
After a few minutes, Athena made up the guest bedroom for you and said you could stay as long as you needed. But you hoped it wouldn’t have to be for long.
__
Bobby arrived at the station in search for Buck and found him sulking while Hen and Chimney were grilling him about his mood. “What’s wrong with you today?” Chimney asked. “Him and Y/N got in a fight last night and she walked out on him.” Bobby answered for him.
Buck looked up at his captain with wide eyes, wondering how he knew about the prior events. “She stayed at mine and Athena’s last night.” He added. Buck let out a sigh of relief, mainly because he was worried sick about you. You didn’t answer a single one of his calls or texts and he didn’t know where you went off to.
“Why did she walk out on you?” Hen asked. “Because I may have went to meet up with Abby the other day. And apparently I had been acting distant towards Y/N and she confronted me.” Buck explained. “Seriously? You still have feelings for Abby?” Hen asked. “No, Hen-” Buck tried to explain but was interrupted by his coworkers.
“Y/N is the perfect girl for you and you’re throwing her away for someone who left you?” She continued. “Hen,” Buck started. “You’re stupid but not this stupid.” She said. “Hen! I don’t have feelings for Abby anymore. I wanted to give her a chance to explain why she left and to thank her. Because if she wouldn’t have left, I wouldn’t have met Y/N.” Buck interrupted.
“And I,” He started before he stopped himself, not sure if he wanted to tell everyone his secret. “You what?” Eddie asked. Buck looked up at his friends before sighing. “I bought a ring.” He answered. “Wait, what?” Chimney asked. “I bought a ring. I was going to propose but then I got all in my head after Abby showed up. I thought Y/N would say no and she’d leave me just like Abby did.” Buck explained.
The rest of the 118 crew was silent as they looked down at Buck. Hen sat down across from him before speaking. “That girl is head over heels in love with you, Buck. She has been since the first time she met you and the last thing she would do is leave you like Abby did. Though, because of Abby, she felt she had no choice.” She said.
“I need to get her back. I didn’t even know what to do this morning without her.” Buck said. “When does she come in for her shift?” He asked Bobby. “She was supposed to be here by now. She left before me.” The man answered.
Before anyone could form a theory about your whereabouts, the bell went off signaling they had a call.
They soon arrived to the scene of a car accident, one car completely flipped upside down.
The 118 stopped short, however, when they noticed who’s car was upside down. It was yours that was hit by a guy texting and driving and ran a red light.
“Y/N?” Buck called, running to the driver side door. “Buck, you’re too close to this.” Bobby stopped him. “We’re all too close to this, Bobby.” Buck rebutted. Bobby looked at Athena and gestured for her to keep Buck away from the scene. “Keep him away from her.” He instructed his. wife.
Eddie began trying to get the door off and Hen and Chimney noticed you were still conscious, struggling to get out and stay awake.
“Y/N, can you hear me?” Hen asked. “Yeah. I-I can hear you.” You stammered. “I have a piece of shrapnel between the third and fourth intercostal space. Mild to severe concussion and around three broken ribs, and a possible pulmonary contusion.” You told them.
Both EMTs were surprised that you could still diagnose and recognize your symptoms while having a concussion and actively bleeding.
Once the door was off the car, Hen and Chimney set down the backboard and Eddie began cutting your seatbelt.
“Where’s Buck?” You asked him. “Bobby won’t let him help. He’s too close to this one.” Eddie answered. “Aren’t you all though?” You joked. Eddie laughed dryly as the seatbelt was cut free. “Can you move?” He asked.
You looked down at the piece of metal from the seat and back up at him. “You have to pull it out.” You told him. “Y/N,” Eddie started. “Eddie, you have to pull it out or I won’t be able to move. I have a concussion, I’m already bleeding and in about five minutes I’m going to pass out. I will slowly bleed out from the inside if I don’t move. Pull the damn thing out.” You snapped.
Eddie looked at you for a moment before glancing over at Buck, arguing with Athena. As Eddie pulled the piece of metal out of your side, Buck broke free of Athena’s grasp and fell to his friend’s side.
“Y/N, baby, are you okay?” He asked frantically. “I’m going to pass out in a couple of seconds so I’m sorry, Buck. For what happened last night.” You spoke, your breathing becoming shallower. “Buck we gotta move her.” Eddie told him.
Your eyes fell closed slowly and the heart rate monitor attached to you started beeping rapidly. “We gotta get her out now.” Hen instructed. Bobby pulled Buck back as he watched in horror while his friends began giving you CPR once they pulled you from the car.
Your heart beat thankfully went back to normal and Chimney and Hen loaded you into the back of the ambulance.
Buck took the liberty of joining you considering he was your emergency contact, having no other family in LA.
Once the ambulance arrived at the hospital, Buck, Chimney and Hen were forced to stay at the ER bay, not being allowed to go with you.
Buck watched as the doctors took you away and this quickly became his worst nightmare. What if you didn’t make it? What if the last conversation you had was a fight?
Bobby’s hand rested on Buck’s shoulder as they all watched you disappear down the hallway.
__
It had been hours. Hours of the 118 sitting in the waiting room for you to come out of surgery. Buck was a nervous wreck and no amount of consoling from Maddie or Eddie made it any better. He knew she should have told you about meeting with Abby but he was afraid of ruining everything. But not telling you made it ten times worse.
“Evan Buckley?” A doctor called, alerting the entire crew. “Th-That’s me. I’m Evan Buckley.” Buck replied. “Y/N is going to be okay. We repaired the damage to her lung as well as the other internal damage she received from the car crash. She still had a major concussion and she’ll be out of commission for a while, but she got incredibly lucky.” The doctor explained.
Buck let out a very visible sigh of relief, as did everyone else. “Can I see her?” Buck asked. “She’s in the ICU so only a couple of people at a time.” The doctor said. “You go, Buck. We’ll see her when she’s moved to a normal room.” Bobby told him.
He nodded his head and followed the doctor to your room. He saw you lying in the hospital bed, multiple IVs in your hands and arms and an oxygen tube in your nose.
Your eyes were still closed but he could tell you were awake, though hearing the doctor’s voice alerted you.
“Y/N, someone’s here to see you.” You turned your head slightly and saw Buck standing in the doorway. “Hi.” You said quietly, your voice still hoarse from the breathing tube in surgery.
Buck sat in the chair next to you, his eyes red and watering. “I am so sorry, Y/N,” He whispered. “I should have told you about Abby but I met with her to get closure. And to thank her because if she wouldn’t have left me, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with you.” He added.
“It’s okay. I should have let you explained.” You replied. “I have something else to tell you.” Buck said. “Oh no, now what?” You joked. “I bought a ring.” He said. “Like, a ring ring?” You questioned. “Yes, a ring ring.” Buck laughed. “Where is it?” You asked.
Buck let go of your hand for a moment and fished the piece of jewelry out of his pocket.
“You have to put it on for me.” You said. Buck looked at you in disbelief as he smiled, sliding the ring on your left finger. “I’m assuming that’s a yes.” He said. “Of course it is. I’d be stupid to say no to you.” You told him with a smile.
Buck squeezed your hand gently as he looked at the ring on your finger. “I never want to come that close to losing you ever again.” He muttered. “You won’t. I don’t plan on leaving you for a long time.” You said. “Good. Because I really don’t know what I’d do without you.” Buck said.
He leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on your forehead as you looked down at the ring. “You did a good job.” You commented. Buck laughed at your comment, causing a smile to grace your face. “Hen and Maddie helped.” He said. “I figured as much.” You replied.
The rest of the evening, or whatever time of day you thought it was, Buck stayed by your side. Even when the doctors were running their tests and looking over your condition. After almost losing you, there was no way you were going to get rid of Buck even for a moment.

Buck & Eddie: Eddie panics about losing Buck
Tumblr media
Several audience members have commented on how they want to see Eddie lose it over Buck while he’s in a life-or-death situation.  Basically, they want Buck to be at death’s door so that Eddie can freakout over it like Buck did when he screamed, cried and panicked for Eddie at The Well, The Shooting, The Hostage Situation and The Breakdown.  Here’s the thing, Eddie shows his fear over losing Buck differently than Buck does when Eddie’s in danger. The truth is Eddie has panicked over losing Buck many times but you probably missed it because you were looking for a specific type of reaction from him.  When Eddie was trapped in The Well, Buck’s reaction was very loud and passionate but guess where Eddie was when he became loud and passionate over the possibility of losing Buck…The Grocery Store.
The Grocery Store
In 3x5 “Rage”, Eddie unleashed the beast on Buck inside of The Grocery Store after Buck filed a lawsuit against Bobby and the LAFD so that he could get his job back.  But Buck filing that lawsuit came with a caveat of him being told by his lawyer to eliminate all contact with the 118 and of course that included Eddie. While no conversations were shown, the 118 was notified they weren’t allowed to talk to Buck and that’s canon because Eddie told Lena in 3x5, “I’m not allowed to talk to Buck” after she bailed him out of jail.  During the arbitration hearing, Eddie got upset because Buck told some of his personal business to the lawyer who used it to help Buck get his job back and that caused Eddie to be angry. Then Lena introduced Eddie to an illegal Fight Club that only increased his rage. After the 118 arrived at The Grocery Store, Hen saw Buck first while he was pretending to shop but he was actually stalking them so that he could apologize for filing the lawsuit.  During his apology, Eddie lost it and he got right in front of Buck and started yelling at him.  He said “because you’re exhausting. We all have our own problems but you don’t see us whining about it.  Somehow we just manage to suck it up (hindsight to 3x1 “Kids Today” when Eddie said that’s what his father taught him to do) why can’t you?”.  Chimney stood up for Buck and said “that’s kind of harsh. It’s not like the guy asked to be crushed by a ladder truck.” Eddie glared at Chimney (as if to say, ‘you can shut up because this is between me and my boyfriend’); then he turned back to Buck and said “no, but he filed a stupid lawsuit and now I can’t even talk to you because of it! Do you know how much Christopher misses you? How could you, you’re not around”.
Tumblr media
Eddie said a lot of other things during their argument but the part about Christopher missing him was actually Eddie doing what he always did, he used Christopher as a shield instead of telling Buck that he was actually the one that was missing him.  Their argument was foreshadowing for how Eddie would feel in 5x11 “Outside Looking In” and 5x13 “Fear-O-Phobia” because in those episodes Eddie started to isolate himself from everyone except Christopher after he told Buck to “move on”.  Let’s be real, at the time Eddie was the last firefighter hired at the 118; therefore if Buck had won the lawsuit, Eddie wasn’t going to lose anything except for his connection to Buck.  Bobby had the most to lose because the lawsuit was against him and the department. So that means Eddie’s anger towards Buck was a direct result of Eddie not being able to talk to him.
The Shooting
In 4x13 “Suspicion” Carla told Eddie “Make sure you’re following your heart and not Christopher’s, ok!”.  He was getting ready to act on Carla’s advice but he got shot which prevented him from breaking up with Ana so that he could finally tell Buck how he really felt about him.  After Eddie was shot and he fell on the ground, he reached out for Buck while their eyes were locked in one of their silent conversations.
In those moments it appeared Eddie was silently telling Buck, ‘I was planning to break up with Ana so that we could finally be together. I should have told you this 3 years ago but I’m saying it now.  I love you, Evan.   Forgive me for not telling you how much I love you and how much you mean to me.  Please take care of Christopher and remember I love you both so much that it hurts.  I don’t want to leave either of you but it’s not looking too good for me right now.  I’m sorry that I won’t be there but I know you and him will be ok because you’ll have each other.  You will raise him to be a good man and you will fight for him, that’s what I want for him’.
Tumblr media
Eddie’s fear of losing Buck was immediate but since he was in and out of consciousness he couldn’t tell if Buck had been shot too; therefore, in 4x14 “Survivors” he asked Buck after seeing all of the blood on his face and clothes, “Are you hurt?” while they were inside of the firetruck.
Tumblr media
Buck responded with “No, no, no, I’m good, Eddie you just hang on”. Right before Eddie went unconscious for the last time, he looked directly into Buck’s eyes as if to say, ‘I love you’ one last time just in case he didn’t make it.

Panic Attacks
Please note: this section was revised and included from my original post titled “Eddie doesn’t panic. OK!” that was posted on April 30, 2022 at 10:51AM EST).
Eddie’s first panic attack happened in 5x1 “Panic” when he was in the suit store with Christopher and Ana.  The salesman thought Ana was Christopher’s mother and when he said, “let’s ask mom”, Eddie panicked and fell out in the store. Even though it was his first panic attack, the key thing to understand is Ana was not the root cause of Eddie’s panic, she was only a trigger (hindsight to 3x4 “Triggers” when Christopher had nightmares about missing his mother).  The real reason Eddie panicked was because he was afraid of losing Buck.  His second panic attack happened while he was at work and Ana wasn’t even there. Buck was there and when they arrived at the air traffic control tower, the victim Nick was laying on the ground and he looked a lot like Buck did in 4x13 “Suspicion” and 4x14 “Survivors” during The Shooting. Nick’s hair was curly and he had on a white button down shirt; therefore when Eddie saw him he started to panic. He thought he was looking at Buck laying on the ground which means he was probably having a flashback.  Reminder: after Eddie got shot, he thought Buck had been shot too and that’s why he asked him “Are you hurt?” while they were inside of the firetruck.  To stop his panic attack, Eddie bumped his leg into Buck’s to calm himself and when he got up he ran his hand across Buck’s back to make sure he was still there.
Tumblr media
His third panic attack happened in 5x2 “Desperate Times” when Ana brought Christopher to the firehouse.  Eddie panicked when he realized Ana was in the way of his self-made family.  Eddie, Christopher and Buck were all standing in a straight line while Ana was off to the side.
Tumblr media
She was blocking Eddie from getting what he really wanted which was the family he had already created with Buck more than 4 years ago.
The Bar
In 5x11 “Outside Looking In”, Eddie told Buck to “Move On” and as usual he said something he didn’t really mean.  He didn’t want Buck to move on from him; what he wanted was for Buck to stay.  He was already struggling at work and Josh said something to him that caused him to break even more than he already had.  He assisted the 118 with a car bomb call and Josh told him he was a ‘guest at dispatch’.  Eddie was invited to the bar and when he arrived to celebrate with the 118 he saw Buck was laughing and having fun.  When the waitress asked him if he was with the firefighters, Eddie said “No, I’m not”.
Tumblr media
Then he went home and continued to isolate himself.  Josh made it clear he wasn’t a part of the dispatch center family and since Eddie quit his job with the 118, he felt completely alone.  He felt like he didn’t have anyone to turn to as family so he internalized everything.  After he left the bar, he was still having problems sleeping.  He was sitting in the kitchen staring into space when Christopher came in to check on him.  During their conversation Christopher explained to Eddie that he never told him to quit his job.
Tumblr media
Eddie felt like that was all he needed to hear from Christopher since his blow up in 5x10 “Wrapped in Red” was the thing that prompted him to leave the 118 so he tried to go back.  He didn’t anticipate Bobby saying no and telling him to go to therapy.  In true Eddie fashion, he blew up and yelled at Bobby just like he yelled at Buck in 3x5 “Rage”.  Eddie started therapy with Frank and he gave Eddie an assignment in 5x13 “Fear-O-Phobia” that included him contacting the people he served with in the Army.  When Eddie learned they were all dead, he lost it.  Christopher heard some of it and he called Buck who rushed over to help. When Buck asked Eddie “what are you afraid of?”, Eddie responded with “that I’ll never feel normal again” (hindsight to earlier in the same episode when Frank asked him the same question, Eddie said “that’s a pretty open-ended question don’t you think?”).  How is it that Buck can ask Eddie the same question his therapist asked and get a response but Frank couldn’t?  Interesting…
Before Eddie started therapy again in 5x13 “Fear-O-Phobia” (for real this time unlike 3x8 “Malfunction” when he didn’t really answer Frank’s questions), he would internalize everything until his emotions exploded.  While he appeared to be ok on the outside, his insides were in turmoil and after he was shot in 4x13 “Suspicion”, he tried to do what he said in 3x1 “Kids Today” his father told him to do, “Suck it up and keep moving forward”.  As time passed his ability to internalize started to affect his health because he started having panic attacks.  Christopher started suffering too because he does the same thing Eddie does with his emotions, he internalizes them instead of talking about them. So Eddie quit his job and finally in 5x11 “Outside Looking In” Eddie isolated himself from Buck and the 118.  He was tired of fighting his emotions so he gave up.  He told Buck to “move on” and when he did Eddie thought he’d lost him for good that time.  But Buck never gives up on Eddie because he loves Eddie just as much as Eddie loves him and when Christopher called Buck in 5x13 “Fear-O-Phobia”, he ran to Eddie just like he did in 4x14 “Survivors” after he woke up from his coma.
Tumblr media
There’s a reason why Eddie’s freakouts about losing Buck seem different from those Buck exhibit when he’s about to lose Eddie.  The reason is simple, they process things differently which means they won’t show fear in the same way. That’s probably one of many reasons why they work together so well.  They are complete opposites who are searching for something that they can only find in each other.
