i was thinking about cori and it led me to my favorite pastime: figuring out why i think she and shtola are in love. below the cut bc i’m embarrassing and long winded

even though cori taught themself summoning as much as they could and read every book they could get their hands on growing up, those books and the knowledge they gained were kind of limited in scope by virtue of living in an isolationist village. and in order to grow the way they want to grow they have to leave. so they do and they get to the arcanists guild and finally have people to discuss their interests with and who can show them things they didn’t or couldn’t read in books.

and then they meet shtola who has vaguely the same interests as them but more importantly the same desire to Know things, the same curiosity and drive to learn. and shtola takes them to the waking sands which has even more books and even more people to talk to and learn from. i can see cori and shtola and urianger having very spirited and in depth conversations about whatever they’re researching now.

and for shtola, to have someone come into her life who is…not exactly on equal footing, because there’s no denying that shtola is more educated, but who is not only intelligent but so open to learning and discussing and debating in a way that shtola really values. someone who is very capable of keeping up with her in conversations and also willing to let shtola go on and on about something and show interest, ask questions. is i think very gratifying?? for her and a big reason for their early and lasting connection.

and cori really feels the same way about it but sort of in reverse—shtola is intelligent and challenging to keep up with but it’s a challenge she enjoys, and she wants to know all the things shtola is interested in because they’re interesting to her too. (and i think the “letting the other go on and on” about things is very mutual, shtola likes to listen to whatever it is cori is interested in too). also i think much of their early time together was shtola sort of offhand mentioning a book and then two days later cori coming back to have a discussion about it bc they read it. you know. in between the plot.
