There had been no other thought in his mind since hearing of the rumor. The men who talked about her couldn't give him a name or anything more than a description of her appearance, but it was enough for Cloud to up and leave Edge without warning.

Returning from the northern crater and seeing the lifestream surge up onto the surface made him think he, like the planet, could start anew, for her sake if nothing else. Yet he hadn't been able to keep that hope. Day by day, the yearning in his heart grew, weeds growing in the spaces of his heart where he hoped for flowers.

Now that long lost feeling of hope re-gripped him. It could just be a wild rumor, a coincidence, he didn't know, but he wouldn't rest until he knew.

It took several days for Cloud to arrive in Mideel. The little village was still recovering after being attacked by Ultimate Weapon, but they were thriving. Homes and stores had popped up from the shambles and what had started as a few survivors was now a small village. He hoped she was among them.

Cloud had barely slept on his way here but he pushed forward, eyes scanning the threadbare crowd with hope. She would stand out among them, he could almost see her now, just as she had been when they met in Sector 8.

it was the sound of her voice he heard first, and for a moment he wondered if he was hallucinating. But the he turned and he saw her, as alive and smiling as she had been before he found her on the altar. Before...

Cloud stared openly, rooted to the spot and his breath caught in his throat. He wasn't...hallucinating, right? If he was...he hoped it continued...

The afternoon is waning when Jessie bursts into the bar where she expects she'll find Cloud, maybe sitting in a stool or maybe downstairs in the hideout. Thankfully, he's at the bar with a drink resting on the counter top between his hands, so she doesn't have to look hard. And he has some empty space beside him! "Cloud!" she says happily, bringing a platter over and setting it down next to him. "A specialty pizza made by yours truly! All the freshest ingredients, some not legally obtained but I will kick you if you turn me in, and out of the oven only five minutes ago! Happy birthday!" She grins, beaming at him from where she stands at his side.

Even when he was a kid, there was never much fanfare about his birthday outside of what his mother planned. He had done a good job early on of alienating himself from the only other kids his age in the village. Kids didn't attend a troublemaker's party.

The 'tradition', so to speak, carried over into his adult years. He never celebrated it at Shinra, and the only person who even knew of it now would be Tifa.

So he had a good idea of how Jessie knew it.

His expression remained unchanged as he looked over the pizza and then at her before looking away and speaking in a flat tone. "You didn't have to."

Cloud finished his drink, and then asked. "What'd you use?"

Your writing of Zack and Cloud's date ideas was sooooo cute! Do you think they'd get jealous of you talking to other guys, assuming they had a crush on you?

Thank you so much!! I actually love comparing these two because I feel like their personalities really are so opposite. If they had crushes on you and saw you being friendly with other guys they'd 100% get jealous.

Cloud would probably be really pouty about it but try to pretend nothing is wrong. It would be written all over his face that he's bothered by it, but the second you ask him what's wrong, he'll say it's nothing and try to do something to distract himself. He'll stay relatively quiet about it, but inside, it's all he can think about. Eventually he'll shyly murmur it out, that he wishes you'd talk to him as much as the other guys. Eventually Cloud would have no choice but to admit that he likes spending time with you, trying to convey his message without entirely confessing to you just yet. But the second you catch on and start to probe him, he'll say "never mind" becoming too bashful, walking away so you don't see him blushing.

Zack would make it SO obvious that he's jealous, and pretty outwardly. He'll try to make a joke of it, saying that you must really like those other guys to be talking to them so much. And have a "what's so great about them when you've got me!" approach to talking about it. He'll go out of his way to make sure you're always seeing him do stuff like working out or fighting in the combat simulator, cracking jokes with others as you walk by to show he can be funny... showing off, basically. But Zack will be real with you at the end of it all and would probably end up confessing to some extent because he wants you to know he really likes you and wants to spend more time with you. And then joke again about how the other guys there aren't that great, anyway.

So tired of people within the fandom spreading this cliché.

Do people just not understand how pathetic Sephiroth's behaviour towards Cloud really is? Is it that hard for them to read characters and subtext?

Whatever the case may be, this anti-story misrepresentation of these two characters has festered long enough within the fandom and needs to die.

While Cloud is recovering his c-section Sephiroth is doing the all of the childcare(except feeding Destiny, that’s mama Cloud’s job) which he’s happy to do. He already missed out missing out on Aerith’s(or Aria as he calls her) early development thanks to Cloud’s friends stealing Cloud from him before she was even born, so he doesn’t want to miss out on Destiny’s. Plus he can also help Aerith bond with her new sister since he quickly realizes that she blames Destiny for their mom being sick, so that needs to be corrected immediately.

Also Sephiroth has a baby harness to put Destiny in when he’s doing things like laundry or cooking.

Sephiroth is a shockingly good parent, minus the whole technically holding the mother of his children hostage thing. Having lost the opportunity to spend any time with Aerith/Aria when she was growing up, he's rather desperate to ensure he doesn't miss any more moments.

Not to mention, as you said, it's a great chance for him to help Aerith/Aria bond with the baby. The last thing he needs is some sort of resentment building over the fact Cloud is being difficult and moping in bed. It's been nearly three days since the home c-section, surely he's fine by now!

Also, Sephiroth with a baby harness. Precious. You just know that Destiny always has a fistful of his hair in her mouth too.

Aerith went for dangerous things as a baby (matches, kitchen knives (how did she get on the counter?????!!!!!), really anything that Cloud and Tifa never even thought to baby proof), but Destiny goes for the hair. Loves to pull on it and put it in her mouth.

Cloud nodded, acknowledging the sentiment of what she said. It was often hard to put his thoughts into words, something tangible he could share with others, because the pain and troubles that followed him had no explanation. They simply were.

"Do you ever feel like...you're not yourself?" He asked the question with his gaze skyward, like the heavens might have an answer he didn't. He wasn't sure what kind of response he expected from Byleth, but he didn't know anyone else he could ask.

"I wouldn't mind if you did," he replied. If it helped her feel better, there was little Cloud wouldn't do. Seeing her happy made him feel lighter somehow.

As much as he didn't like to be thought of as a hero, Aerith never made him feel like he had impossible expectations to live up to. He was fine as he was, nervousness and all. There were times it felt like she was bogged down by her feelings, unpleasant thoughts and memories, and that was something Cloud could relate to on an intrinsic level.

He thought of her on the beach back in Costa del Sol, worried about her ugly thoughts, but he could only see her light.

Cloud's gaze remained fixed downward but he furtively glanced in her direction as he spoke. "Maybe we understand each other better than we realize."

There is something so achingly sweet about Cloud's admission. He was thinking of her. He cared. It gives her butterflies, but there is something deep in her head telling her she should keep her distance. Why did she want to keep her distance from Cloud? Everything about him pulled her in. Something she couldn't quite place.

"...That's so kind of you" She hums, her gaze settling down into her lap. She spent so much time alone, even when she was desperate for company she didn't want to impose. "You always know just when I need you" A half smile, "How do you do it?" She wasn't expecting an answer, not really. But in the same way she knew when to grab his hand whenever he had that look in his eyes, he somehow knew when she was bluffing. 'I'll be okay....I want to be alone' All things he had somehow seen past.

"I might come to depend on you if you keep it up"
