okay okay okay so like callisto and the squad are at the ball right now... calliso looks amazing and like... she got a dance with a girl!!!! (within the fiction she is an agent of a CIA esque organization but Callisto doesn't know that). They both got to dance unrestrained from the expectations and roles forced upon them, simply enjoying each other as each other..... Anyways, her name is Io which is ALSO a name of a Jovian moon LIKE CALLISTO UGH

For seven days your crew weathered the storms before finally breaking through the clouds. They couldn't have made it this far without you. What began as a chance encounter with a girl named Lyria became a journey to reach the ends of the skies and now, a new chapter in that story is about to begin.

I've been chewing on what fears the bg3 characters would be because I do that with almost every piece of media I like now.
Gale is the Beholding (hubris, pursuit of knowledge above all else, his ex can literally see everything he does in/with the Weave). You could make an argument for Desolation b/c of the orb but I think that's secondary. Wyll is the Hunt imo, but the Desolation works for him too- I think his situation is similar to that Hunter we meet whose name I'm forgetting, whose inciting incident has to do with the Dark. I thought the same thing about Karlach but I think she's Desolation instead of Hunt, both aesthetically and because she was actively betrayed and is, you know, dying. Shadowheart is the Dark. Halsin could honestly be the Lonely: he's pretty isolated from the people around him emotionally. An island unto himself etc etc. Lae'zel is the End imo. You'd think she'd be Hunt but End fits into Vlaakith's whole deal (victim of the End, avatar of the Hunt?). Astarion could be either the Buried (since that covers abuse as well, he was literally kept underground/out of the sunlight, etc etc) or the Hunt. I'm a bit undecided there. I don't know enough about Minthara to make a call on her and I don't want to just say Web because of Lolth. Slaughter, maybe? Since that fear covers war. Jaheira and Minsc are Hunt too, I think (there's a lot of Hunt but that comes with the territory when you're adventuring).
Gortash is Web and you cannot convince me otherwise. I think Orin is Slaughter but, honestly, Durge seems more associated with the Extinction to me because of Bhaal's end goal. The Desolation and the Lonely tag-teamed Ketheric's ass but he's an avatar of the End. Dame Aylin is an avatar of the Hunt, victim of the Dark, and Isobel is an avatar of the End a la the main End avatar we see (Oliver? I really need to re-listen...)
There's obviously a lot of overlap and bleed because there always is. I've been wanting to make art based off of this but it's not happening anytime soon so I figured I'd shout about it into the void a bit lol

He gazes openly, and when Io finishes her task and turns, she is unsurprised to find him looking. It's been nearly a year, and she no longer shies away.
a little recreation from a recent prompt fill (mind the rating). they are so precious to me T^T

Callisto and Io infodump
Okay okay okay okay, I feel like I need to talk about Io and Callisto from last Beam Saber session or else I'm gonna fucking combust jesus fucking christ AAA
Callisto: My player character. She's an Ascencian pilot who has trapped under the facade of a dead and legendary pilot. The previous pilot, Argyre died and Callisto, a city rat and a conscript, someone who, according to Ascencian fascist rhetoric, should by no means be able to pilot a mech somehow inexplicably bonded with it. She's been forced to become the pilot known as Wraith (Argyre's callsign) and to pilot its fearsome mech, The Wraith of Deimos (We'll refer to it as Deimos). Only recently has Callisto escaped the hold of the Ascencians and now, with Deimos, find herself as a part of a roving mercenary band. Now, while she was imprisoned under the Ascencians, she was forced to play the role of Argyre, under Ascencian rhetoric, Argyre was not dead. And internally, Callisto was only a placeholder till they could find a "proper" Pilot to officially assume the role of the Wraith. No one knew about Callisto, Argyre's death, or the fact Callisto was the Wraith now. And those that did got killed (Illia's old crew). Even free from the Ascencians, Callisto tries to keep a low profile, not knowing how to tell everyone that she didn't somehow steal Deimos, she was (and is) its pilot.
Callisto's wants in this game were simple. Callisto more than anything wants to run. She wants to escape the war and leave, an impossible goal that she has reached for her entire life.
Callisto and Deimos' relationship has been an interesting one. They do not know why they are bonded only that they are. They are the two-become-one known as Wraith. Each is afraid of the other but that fear has transformed into a fearful intimacy. Callisto saw the Deimos as just another part of The Wraith's constricting identity but has since realized that Deimos is just as restrained as her.
Their bond, like all bonds with what's known as "Awakened Frames" (Culturally called Leviathans where Callisto comes from) (awakened frames are essentially like the Gundam/EVAs of this setting. They are terrifying.) allows them to do something impossible. In their case, it is capable of opening a "door" into a mysterious pocket dimension known as The Red. It is something old, something Callisto both sees danger and safety in, something she is trying to understand. (also this is why red is like... a massive motif for callisto). Argyre was also capable of the very same power. While Callisto uses The Red to run, Argyre used The Red as a weapon.
Cool now you're caught up to speed on my beloved wet dog of a girl and her it/its trans girl of a mech.
Now, last session, which you can get a vibe of from my liveblog of it, the party went to a ball for the "season 1 finale" of the Beam Saber campaign. Callisto was asked to dance by a girl named Io (JOVIAN MOON MOTIF). It was lovely. They both got to dance unrestrained from the expectations and roles of war forced upon them, simply enjoying each other as each other and getting to cherish that. Stepping out of the ballroom and onto a balcony, they get closer, physically and emotionally. talking bit about their life. They both feel like dogs in an unending war, tired of losing people in the war, and wanting to escape it all. They feel a tenderness and closeness with each other. It's lovely. They're glad, that even in the midst of this terrible war, they have met each other, and through that feel a bit of solace. It feels like Io is going to move in to kiss Callisto, but before that, Io gives her an offer. "Come escape with me Callisto. We can leave the ring. Leave the war. We can be at peace.
I just need to finish this one job.
I just need to kill the Wraith
I checked the frame registry. It's here. I don't know where the pilot, is, I haven't seen him, but if I can just destroy that terrible machine I'll be at peace. We can escape together.
Callisto is in shock, she's stumbling over words, a jumble of "W-what do you mean?"s and "H-huh?"s.
"I can't be at peace while the Wraith is still living... It killed my mentor. Took one of the few people I cared about. I just need to destroy it... Then... Then I can escape with you... We could leave this war for good"
Callisto wants to take that offer. She so desperately wants to leave this war. Abandon it all and everyone. But she can't. Not at that cost. A younger Callisto would have taken that chance in a heartbeat, a Callisto utterly terrified of Deimos. But Callisto, though still terrified of her Leviathan, is too connected to Deimos for her to abandon it anymore. She didn't realize this till this moment, but she cares too much about Deimos to allow it to be harmed.
She steps back as Io tries to lean in closer. "I-im sorry I-i think I really have to go..."
Callisto beings to stumble her way from the balcony, reaching her hand out to the ballroom door "I'm sorry... I-Im just not the girl you're looking for". The doorway opens. But it's not the ballroom door that opens.
The last thing Callisto sees is Io's dawning face of horror as she watches Callisto fall into The Red.
The Wraith's red.
The thing is, Callisto was wrong, she was the right girl... Just for all the wrong reasons....

Also I've complied all my recent refs for my silly oc crossover idea into a nice clean group pic version of this. This one looks better, but unfortunately doesn't have the cute characters interactions as the previous. At least it looks nice!

Backstories: Childhood Trauma Edition
I went in order of youngest to oldest: Candor was 5, Diodore was 8, Peregrine was 10, Solace was 10, and Corentin was 15. And these aren't the only (and not even the first in some cases) traumas they experienced as children. And tbh Peri's is the only one where the adult/mentor figure who's shown/referenced/implied isn't contributing to the situation. The woman is his adoptive mother (who he called Auntie), who didn't die until he was well into his twenties.
I'll give more context for the scenarios under the cut. I put cw's in the tags, but I'll reiterate them at the beginning of each explanation too so it's clear which goes where.
1. Candor: (cw child abuse, murder, drowning) he was born to half-elf parents and appeared to be one at birth, but when he was about 4 or 5 his horns & tail started to grow in. His mother freaked out, and it escalated to the point where his father feared for his child's safety and, to some extent, his own. Things came to a head one night and Candor's father tried to hide him in a closet while he tried and failed to talk down his wife & get both him and Candor out of her reach. She knocked him out, grabbed Candor, and ran to the Chionthar River; he managed to wake up and catch up in time to wrestle their kid away from her and shoved her into the water in the struggle. Not knowing where else to turn, and not wanting to be separated from Candor when his wife's body was found and the Fists came knocking, he turned to the Guild for shelter. Candor grew up in the Guildhall, being watched while his dad went to work and, eventually, joining him on the boat despite his intense fear of water & drowning.
2. Diodore: (cw- child abuse, child death, ableism, murder) Dora's autism had been pretty difficult to detect as a young child, especially since, as her only daughter (and only child period), her mother and the community at large were willing to overlook some things they would have caught in other kids. When she was about eight years old, however, her difficulties adapting socially and conforming to the teaching styles of her instructors put a target on her back. It didn't help that she and some other kids had begun to form a friend group around their shared struggles. Eventually, the adults considered it no longer worth their time to try and "help" her and her friends and, one by one, they began disappearing, being fed to a beholder in a nearby cavern. Dora was one of the last to be targeted, due to her specific family situation, and managed to slip under the radar before being dragged off with a combination of social masking and realizing her knack for alchemy & gardening (her parents' specialties) which justified pulling her out of the community school for "specialized training". She was unable to help her friends.
3. Peregrine (abandonment, "othering", idk how else to explain it sorry): Peri accidentally interrupted his parents' attempt at figuring out the Dream of the Blue Veil spell when he wandered into the ritual at 10 years old and the resulting magical surge transported him from Eberron to Faerun, where he was found, alone, by the woman who would become his adoptive mother ("auntie"). His parents before this were emotionally harsh and neglectful, frustrated with his difficulty shapeshifting and, seemingly, by his presence. He assumed them dead via the same accident that teleported him and blamed himself for it for the rest of his childhood and into his adulthood, and was so stressed by suddenly being on a completely different plane that he was mute until he was about 13. He also became obsessed with remembering his old home and family, drawing pictures to process what had happened. The community that took him in was hesitant due to their belief that he was a fae child (they called him "changeling" which was accurate but not for the reason they thought) but were ultimately welcoming, due primarily to the efforts of his auntie. He carried that fear of being "found out" as a shapeshifter that he'd learned first from his parents and then from his new town into his adulthood, only opening up to more people a few years before the "present" day.
4. Solace & Corentin (cw: murder, child death, intrusive/violent thoughts, lack of control, child abuse, really anything durge related): Corentin's Dark Urge truly awoke when they were 15. They'd had violent thoughts & dreams for years beforehand, and had even had a close call that their mother had managed to catch, but they had been working with the Temple of the Open Hand on controlling themself. Their training failed, along with the lock on their door, one night while they were sleepwalking (trapped in their own head, really). Solace was the only family member besides Corentin to survive the night, and only barely. They didn't see their mother die, but their father died protecting them and their 13 year old sister, and their sister died while trying to hide them by laying on top of them. When Corentin woke up they broke a window and called for help before being dragged away by Sceleritas Fel, but managed to throw one of the several healing potions the family kept stashed around their home at Solace, saving their life. Solace was taken in by the Temple and ended up becoming a Tempest cleric after the clergy tried and failed to train them as a healer. Corentin was horrifically abused and brainwashed (to put it lightly) by the Bhaalists after being taken to them and ended up creating/helping with the Absolutist plot in a desperate grab at freedom. In the "present-day" of their storylines they're both trying to come to grips with what happened, Corentin dealing with the guilt and gaps in their memory and Solace grappling with how to handle the new knowledge they've gained of Bhaalspawn and their own memory of the night's events.
