D: sighed as he sat on his couch, one of many drinks he had drowned himself in that day in his hand. He hadn't been able to get Avery off of his mind since they spoke. Knowing she was in Chicago and they weren't speaking was eating at him. He was at the point in drinking that he couldn't hold up his walls anymore and he dialed her number.

Progress:

I haven't written anything in so long, but I wrote a piece of poetry for my boyfriend yesterday and now I'm working on "Amiya" again, finally.

I wrote so much today - granted, it's an addition to a snippet I wrote of book 2 and I'm still on book 1, but it's better than nothing.

1,281 words and counting.

Content warning for the passage below: Contains allusion to a character’s Eating Disorder

Here's a passage I just wrote:

“Her forearm is so small. It feels almost breakable. I can almost wrap my hand all the way around it, and the realization rattles me. 'She's just in shock. She's terrified and she doesn't know what to do. Someone's out to kill her, or me, or both of us and that's why she's lost her appetite.' I think to myself, but I know even as I think the words, that it's not the full truth. But how can I broach the topic of her disorder without making it worse? "I know. Amiya, just stay behind me, okay? Trust me." Leila says softly, patting my hand in a reassuring gesture, but all I can focus on is the ice in her touch and how she's withering away right in front of me.  'I can't lose you. Not now. Not when I've just found you again.' I think to myself, but all I do is nod and stand behind her, my shield already breaking in two before she even opens the door.”

I love being back with Amiya and Tillian, especially where this next book takes place, because it's so different from the first one. The first one is more centered around mystery and espionage and hidden truths, whereas this second book is more around finding answers, murder because Leiliana is an assassin, and finding out how the other half lives and works.

I’m so glad I got out of my writer’s block and I’m actively putting words down on paper, and trying to get back into my characters perspectives because Amiya and Leiliana, and even the supporting characters like Tillian and Selena, and Reyna, are so complex and I really love the themes and the story that I’m crafting.

That’s it for now. I’m gonna get back to writing.

How could one’s eyes be filled with joy if the only thing at the angel’s mind was death? So you’ll excuse him if the situation at hand is a bit uncomfortable. (even if he doesn’t want to inflict any pain.) A snare look will be given; as a smile tugs at chapped lips. “This is whatever person at the situation would say…”

Letha’s eyebrows furrowed, fighting back to the urge to correct his grammar but for the most part, worried about his mental state. “It’s not. This is my major. This is what I do. I want nothing more than to help people that need it. Just tell me what it is you need, okay?”

“what?” She asked knowing that look on his face all too well. “do you hate it?” her face contorts into a sort of bratty pout. “i can tell that you hate it.” Of course when it was Letha who was rebelling, she did far from  rebellious things like cutting her hair and refusing to take a blow dryer to it.

Her eyes are completely fixated on her computer screen, switching tabs between two dresses. She’s very indecisive, Christmas was no exception. In fact, she’s so concentrated on the decision that she doesn’t even hear Peter talking to her. @fiiara

Had Letha even taken a second to think about what she was doing, she'd probably come to the conclusion that a phone call wasn't the right way to break this news. But she'd finally finished speech therapy and she could talk, and she needed to talk to her boys. Make sure they were okay and that they knew she was okay now. But Roman didn't answer, which worried her. And as much as she wanted to call Peter first, family was important, he knew that. Assuming that Peter hadn't deleted her number, she hoped getting a call from the dead wouldn't give him the creeps.

“Destiny!” She exclaimed as if she was surprised to run into her.. but Letha is at her door. And this time she wasn’t searching for Peter, and it was the middle of the night.  She knew almost as soon as the knob turned that this was a bad idea. “I’m sorry, I thought..” She shakes her head,  frustrated with herself. “I didn’t know who else to go to..”

Avery stared at the door to his room, scared to walk through the door to see him. Daniel had always been the protector and she couldn't imagine seeing him down at all. Once she gained the courage to push through the door, she slowly walked in. Seeing him hooked up to machines, looking so beat up and down was hard for her. She knew Isley was in the room, but she could only handle one thing at a time as she walked to the side of his bed. "What did you do?" She reached out to gently brush his cheek with her thumb.

Isley watched from her seat as Avery stroked his cheek. She didn't like it, and part of her wanted to swat her hand away, but she refrained. Instead, she just squeezed Dan's hand tighter, dropping a kiss on it. "He doesn't remember the accident. It was a plane crash, I don't know if you know Margot, but they went on a joyride and something happened." She answered for him, before realizing she should probably shut up.

Daniel watched Avery walk in, hating for her to see him like this at all. Throughout their marriage, he had always been the one to keep his emotions at bay. He always felt like he had to be strong and cold, but now he was weak in front of her and that bothered him a lot more than knowing that she was in the room with Isley. He nodded slightly with Isley's words. "I'm okay. I'm surprised you're here."

Avery tried to keep her annoyance at bay when Isley spoke for him, but she knew that causing issues in that room at the moment was not necessary. "A joyride? Why would you do that?" She didn't understand when he became so reckless; watching him change so much had really made her worry that he was going through a breakdown.

"Margot was having a bad day and she told me she was planning on leaving the country and not to tell anyone.. I just wanted to calm her down a little before she made decisions like that so I asked if she wanted to do something else. That's what she wanted to do." He hated telling people this because now it seemed stupid for him to blindly get into a plane with her while she was upset.

She had so much she wanted to say to that, but her eyes moved to Isley and she stopped herself. "I don't understand why you've been doing so many crazy things." Glancing at Isley again, she noticed the bump of her belly and her eyebrows drew together. "Are you pregnant?"

Daniel had always had a soft spot for Avery and he probably always would, so his instinct would be to somehow stop her from being upset about this. "Aves.. I'm sorry. I was going to talk to you about it. I just couldn't find the right moment." He tried to reach out to her, but the machine started beeping, mad that he was moving his arm with the IV there.

Avery stared at Isley's belly while Daniel apologized. She had no right to be upset about this and she knew that. He wasn't hers anymore, but it did hurt. Now, she couldn't help but wonder if the root of all their issues had been the fact that she had struggled to get pregnant for so long before they gave up. She cleared her throat and shook her head with a tiny smile. "No, I'm happy for you." She said though there were tears in her eyes. She wasn't going to make things worse at the moment, no matter how much she wanted to ask about his reaction to Autumn being lesser because he had a baby on the way.

Aves... That irked Isley. But what did she expect? She knew there would always be feelings between the two, they were each other's first loves, not to mention they were together for practically half their lives. When the machine started beeping, Isley took Daniel's hand and gently lowered it back to the bed. To be honest, she was a little grateful that the IV prevented Dan from touching her, at least in front of Isley. "Thank you." Isley said carefully, placing a hand on her stomach. She wanted to change the subject to something that Avery would have more control of, hoping that that would make her feel better. As much as Isley wasn't a huge fan of Avery, she still didn't want her to feel bad. "How's Autumn?"  She asked, trying to show that she and Daniel still cared.

He was surprised that she didn't get more upset but he was also thankful for that fact. He couldn't handle much right now. His fingers loosely wrapped around Isley's hand as she grabbed his hand. His eyes were on Avery as Autumn was brought up, genuinely wanting to know about their daughter.

"She's okay. The foster home she is in right now seems okay and they let me visit her. That's where I was when I got the call about you. She's still not wanting to be in the foster care system, but I think that things are getting better for her." She bit her lip once she was done speaking. "I just wanted to see that you were okay. I can't stay for long." She began to back up to leave.

Isley nodded as Avery spoke, squeezing Dan's hand. Wait a minute...had Daniel apologized for their babies? Surely not, surely she was just being hormonal and emotional and oversensitive, right? And even if he had, it's not like she could confront him while he was in the hospital. Pushing those emotions aside, she turned back to Avery. "Are you sure? You don't have to leave." She said, though she sort of wanted her to.

Daniel felt awful watching her back up. He wished that he could make the situation any less awkward or tense. "I'm glad that you have been able to spend time with Autumn. I'm sure she is really happy that you're in her life." He said softly. "I understand. Thank you for coming to see me.. I appreciate it a lot."

She couldn't help but take it personally. What had she done wrong? "I have to pee." She said, getting up and using the restroom. While she was there, she took a few steadying breaths before reentering his room. "Can I lay with you?" She asked weakly, not looking at him in case he said no.

He was glad to have the moment alone so he could process the situation. It was hard for him to be rational right now, even though he was trying extremely hard. "Isn't your friend going to be here soon?" He asked her.

Isley waited in the waiting room, wiping away a few stray tears that had escaped. She was so stressed, and she felt so bad. Daniel had it much worse than her, and here she was, crying over herself. She managed to get herself together right before Finn got there, who handed her a bag and a hug. She decided to eat in the waiting room, giving Daniel more time to himself. She couldn't help but feel like he didn't want her there. After she finished, she went back to his room and sat in the chair beside his bed, but she didn't take his hand as she usually did. She decided she would wait for him to let her know if he wanted contact. Instead, she sat back in the chair and rubbed her belly silently.

He flipped through channels until he finally decided there was nothing he wanted to see and let it fall to an action movie playing. His eyes stayed on it, wishing he could just fall asleep and thankfully a nurse arrived not long after so he could get more medication for his pain, though she did bring food in and all but threatened him to get him to start eating. He was picking at the vegetables on his plate when Isley entered the room and the way she sat without a word or initiating touch made him worry that they were now fighting, something he couldn't deal with at the moment. "You can go home if you want to." He kept his eyes on the tray in front of him.

"No, baby." She said, giving up on her decision and leaning forward to touch him. "I'm not leaving until you are. Not even that gross hospital food could make me leave." She laughed, trying to show him that he didn't have to worry about them. "If the nurse is making you eat, would you rather have a cheeseburger and fries?" She asked again.

He was glad that she was acting normal with him, because he wasn't sure if he had ruined everything with the way he acted about Avery. He considered her question, not sure if he could actually eat an entire cheeseburger right now but he would try. "Okay, sure." He nodded his head, giving her a small smile.

Isley beamed at him, grateful that he would try to eat. She felt so foolish for the way she had reacted with the Avery situation, clearly there were much bigger issues to focus on, such as Dan getting back to his healthy self. She pulled out the box Finn had given her, setting it on his tray table as she moved away the other tray of food. "I'm glad, I was worried I was going to have to eat this, too."

Daniel had no appetite at all, but he had to eat and of course the burger and fries in front of him seemed more appetizing than the dry chicken and broccoli that was given to him by the hospital. "I'm sure there will be plenty leftover for you." He said as he grabbed a fry to eat.

He didn't know how much he wanted to do this with Isley, but he knew that there was no way she was going to let one of the nurses see him naked when she was capable to helping him wash up herself. "Okay, yeah.. We can do it."

Just then, a nurse walked in. Isley hopped off the bed so she could take Daniel's vitals, but right as she was about to leave, Isley spoke up.  "Just so you know, I'll be helping him with his bath, so you won't have to do that." The nurse looked a little disappointed, to which Isley smiled tightly, holding back a possessive growl. The nurse unhooked Daniel from all his cords. When she left, Isley turned to Daniel. "Why are all your nurses female?" She groaned, rolling her eyes at the situation.(edited)

"There's no way you have to worry about it when I look like I do." He joked. He winced as he sat up all the way, pausing as he hadn't tried to move that much all day. He managed to get his feet on the ground and stood up, thought wobbly. This was the first time he was going to try walking and he wondered if maybe a nurse should have been there to at least help get him to the bathroom. After Isley had told her that they were going to attempt a bath, she had unhooked Dan from the machines and made sure his arm was sufficiently covered, but it was annoying him not being able to grab for stability with both hands.

Isley hated seeing him in so much pain, and she felt completely helpless. She wrapped an arm delicately around his waist, letting him lean on her for support. He may have been bigger than her, but she was trying her hardest. Slowly, they made their way to the bathroom. There were handles in the tub as well as on the walls, and an emergency help button. She helped him to a bar handle before starting the tub. "You good?"

Daniel tried not to use her for too much support as he walked slowly to the bathroom but was struggling. He felt weak and he was extremely embarrassed about it. He managed to get his gown off on his own, leaving his very bruised chest exposed. He watched Isley begin to fill the tub before walking over and getting in on his own, despite the fact that he was in pain doing it- it made him feel slightly better about the situation.

She tried to contain her gasp as she saw how bad his chest was bruised. She hadn't seen him without his gown on, and it took everything in her not to cry. She undressed as well, getting in the tub facing him. She leaned forward, kissing him as hard as she could without hurting him. A few tears spilled over as they kissed. "I love you so much, Daniel."

"I don't know..." She said, before shaking her head and wiping her face. "Alright, let's get clean." She said, putting soap on the washcloth and rubbing him gently, starting on his shoulder.

He tried not act uncomfortable as she began to rub the soap on him, but it really felt demeaning for him to need her help like this. "Just be careful on my neck." He told her.

She nodded, focusing on what she was doing, being as careful as she could. "I missed touching your skin."

"You can touch me, baby." In fact he wanted her to. He wanted to feel that closeness with her.

Isley nodded again, scooting herself closer so she was almost on his lap. She was grateful that his legs seemed to have come out of the accident okay. She put the washcloth aside, trailing her fingers over his face, his shoulders, anywhere she could touch without hurting him.

His eyes stayed on hers as she ran her fingers along his skin. "I love you." He told her, giving her a small smile.

She felt his breathing get a little heavier an his body relaxed into hers. She almost hoped that he would fall asleep, since he had been in too much pain to do so earlier. As she came to the end of her song, she began another, careful not to move until he did.

He fell asleep, his head still on her shoulder and his body relaxed for the first time since he was in the hospital.

Isley breathed slowly, trying to stay as still as possible. She didn't want to fall asleep because she was afraid if she did, she'd fall over and take Daniel with her. Eventually, a nurse knocked on the bathroom door. She couldn't answer, though, for fear of waking Daniel up. Probably afraid that something had happened to Daniel, the nurse entered. Luckily, Dan's body was covering hers, and nothing was showing. "Sorry, he's asleep. We'll come out in a minute, I'll buzz when we're done." She whispered. Finally, her arms fell asleep and she could no longer hold him up. Stroking his hair again, she kissed the side of his head and whispered, "Baby. Baby, wake up, we have to get you to bed."

Daniel's eyes slowly opened and he looked around confused for a moment, having forgotten where they were. He nodded his head and pulled away, carefully moving to stand up. It only took a bit of struggle before he was on his feet and he stepped out of the tub to grab a towel and begin drying off the best he could with one arm.

She followed after him, grabbing another towel and drying herself off. She moved behind Daniel, patting his back down and the other spots he couldn't get. She handed him a fresh hospital gown before stepping into her own fresh clothes, grateful that Ellie had brought some of her clothes from home. Once dressed, she wrapped her arm around him again and they slowly made their way back to his bed. After getting him settled, Isley buzzed for a nurse, who promptly came in and hooked him back up again before leaving. "Think you can go back to sleep?"

Daniel put the gown back on, shaking his hips a little bit. "I wish I could wear underwear. Free balling all the time just doesn't work for me." He said, only half joking. He walked to the bed and lay down, letting the nurse hook him back up to everything. "I think I might be able to."

She laughed at him, glad he felt good enough to joke. Sitting beside him, Isley took his hand. "I'm glad you got to rest a little in the tub at least."
