Day #234 of things I love about WoW:
Old God whispers. There's just something about an eldritch being whispering sweet nothings about your impending doom into your ear out of nowhere. (Also, Yogg-Saron's lucid dream quote is one of my favorite lines in the entire game).

Toradormi, Dreadlord of C'Thun
Captured by the Qiraji minions during a skirmish with the Bronzedragonflight, Toradormi has been kept inside Ahn'Qiraj for decades. The terrifying overlord of Ahn'Qiraj gradually bending and twisting her mind and body into a sinister, dreadful form. Chaos and commotion during the siege of the Ahn'Qiraj opened a window that allowed Toradormi to escape.  Wandering the desert with only the voice of her former captor and tormentor, Toradormi has been found and rescued by a heavily armed Brigade patrol bound for the desert stronghold of Zim'Watha. While seemingly free of her dark fate - an eerie, maddening presence lingers around the transformed creature - will she ever escape the voices, or is she bound to fulfill her unknown purpose? Only time will tell.
I have finished this piece as a birthday present for thory1984! I have greatly enjoyed designing Toradormi and her hybrid form. I hope you like the final outcome!

My beliefs for the status of each Old God.
I believe it has been said that all of the Old Gods are dead, but it has also been stated that death is not final.
Unfortunately the page containing the original interview that said this is gone, but the English translation of the quote in question still exists on Wowhead.
"I would say we should consider them dead. However as with all things in World of Warcraft and the Warcraft's universe dead isn't always dead. If there was a coming of forth of the Old Gods or herald of the Old Gods come down from the great dark-- I can see that easily happening. Not saying that happening, I'm just saying death isn't the end of the line in World of Warcraft, and it really never has been. I think that's kind of been from your character to the world around you. There is a cycle."
The Warcraft Wiki cites a slightly different translation of this quote.
"I would say that we should consider them dead. But! As with all things in World of Warcraft and in general in the Warcraft universe, death is not always final. Therefore, if there is the coming of the Old Gods, or some precursor of the Old Gods appear from the eternal darkness, from the Void, for example, if there is any way or opportunity to return them, I imagine that this may well happen."
Y'shaarj - Dead. Possibly could come back but I think it is unlikely.
Yogg-Saron - I refuse to believe he is dead. Ulduar was just pushing him back into his prison. From what I've heard, according to Exploring Azeroth: Northrend, some still hear his whispers, although I have not read it myself and I have heard that some things in it do not align with the actual lore. It could be a situation like with the heart/blood of Y'shaarj, but I doubt it.
C'thun - Was probably still alive until 7.3. Sword of Sargeras most likely killed him though. It is possible that parts of his body could still exert power like what happened with the heart of Y'shaarj.
N'Zoth - Since N'zoth died in Ny'alotha, which is an alternate plane of existence, it is possible that we destroyed a vision of him and he is fully alive, the plane is connected to the void and his spirit was also destroyed, or the plane is more connected to Azeroth leading to his spirit being sent back to the void. I think option 3 is most likely. We know that past N'zoth, or the Knowing Presence, saw the events of The War Within. ("With many eyes, they will see again. They will drink, and be uplifted." clearly matches the plot summary of Azj-Kahet) If he saw our future, he likely also saw our past, including us killing him. N'zoth likely worked his own death into his plans. Either, his death is forwarding his plans, or he has a contingency to come back from death.
Theories for the Future
N'zoth - I personally believe that N'zoth will be in Midnight. We know that the void has been trying to gain access to the Sunwell, and we know that it possesses the power to summon beings and restore spirits. (Summoning of Kil'jaeden and revival of Kel'thuzad as a lich) I don't think we are going to see full zone sized N'zoth looming over the skybox of Silvermoon, but I do think that Xal'atath (or some other void aligned entity) is going to summon N'zoth's spirit to store in a mortal vessel.
Y'sharrj & C'thun - I don't think we will see either of them. It is possible that with my N'zoth theory, all three could come back, but they aren't really enough of planners to benefit from existing in a mortal vessel.
Yogg-Saron - Come on, we are returning to Ulduar in The Last Titan. Yogg-Saron's prison. There's no way he doesn't come back. On top of that, The War Within is already giving us Nerubians, which were Aqir descendants connected to him.

how i did the giant squid boss at level 45:
built diff
but no for real the game gives you this ominous warning about not being able to save or do substories for a while but then neglects to tell you that you probably shouldn't initiate the finale sequence at level 42. what's up with that.
so... it's fine up until the point the squid comes out of the water with zero exploitable weaknesses in sight. it goes mostly ok with some front-loaded heat actions until eventually the numbers fall out of my favour and i wipe NARROWLY after using sayama's poundmate with everyone either dead or at 200 HP. squid cleaves its next turn and beans me while it Also is on about 200 HP. frustrating!
i try again, blowing every heat action i can (tomi and adachi's could only be used on humanoids bigF) and while it goes a bit better this time i feel the numbers beginning to overwhelm my party again. which is when i take this screenshot:
Tumblr media
uh huh.
important things to note:
the squid is about to eat me
ichi, while at 80 HP, has the pyrodancer heal-over-time effect active
so SOMEHOW i live through this turn. nele shines down upon me this day or something.
i immediately toughness ZZ and expect the squid to do something crazy stupid now that there's nobody in front of it but it just. doesn't. so i'm free to do any kind of prep i need through the slow chip damage of the stomach acid burn.
i pop hero's guts and eat a few staminans, then get out and immediately rez joongi. they both get ate again. when they get out i just fucking blast it with everything i have and it finally dies oh my god that fight took way too long.
it's doable at 45 with 5 star weapons but i definitely wouldn't recommend it
bryce was way easier though. friendship ended with burning arrow now trippy flipper ripper is my new best friend

You know, with all the tentacle monsters Saitama keeps on beating, I wonder if there's an eldrich type of elder/old god lurking somewhere beneath and inside the Earth like old gods in Azeroth and in the depths. Like idk a combination of N'zoth, Y'shaarj, Yogg-saron and C'thun. Some H.P Lovecraft type of Cthulhu monster.
Tumblr media
Hmm...

You know what?
It's probably more likely than we think.
An Elder God. Gimme.

Book of Burdens: Author's Note
Tumblr media
I love building on top of and expanding in-game lore, and my latest little story (with, hopefully, more to come) is no exception. For those of you that never played through the Mists of Pandaria expansion - a wonderful expansion sullied only by the massive content drought at the end - The Book of Burdens is referenced in-game as part of The Seven Burdens of Shaohao.
An exploration achievement, The Seven Burdens of Shaohao has you traveling across Pandaria to read scrolls that tell the tale of the Last Emperor of Pandaria as he sought to spare his people from the foretold Great Sundering. In so doing, he was forced to overcome each of the Sha. The Sha, of course, are malevolent spirits spawned from the remains of the Old God Y'Shaarj after it was slain by the titan Aman'Thul (long before the Sundering). In killing Y'Shaarj, Aman'thul tore a rift in Azeroth that created the Well of Eternity, and led to the titans entombing the remaining Old Gods of Azeroth (C'Thun, Yogg-Saron, and N'Zoth) rather that risk further damage by slaying them.
All of which makes Shaohao's journey, and the effects of the masks, quite interesting for our dear spooky shadowy Seraanna. Don't you think?
Postscript: There's also The Burdens of Shaohao, an animated telling of the tale by Lorewalker Cho, but that version doesn't mention the masks. And yes, there are even in-game items. All the fun...
Post-Postscript: I never did make it clear, but this story and the one that preceded ("The Bridge") are set during the last year of the timeskip. We have not yet caught up to Dragonflight's now...

Sometimes I wish there would be a discord server for Old Gods, but I haven't found any yet.
It makes me fear that I should make one myself but I don't want the responsibility of owning a server either...
So, in case anyone knows about a Discord server dedicated to Old Gods, please share a link 🙏

Legacies - Chapter 3 thoughts
Watch video first if you haven't already. Then read, 'cause here be spoilers.

Okay?
Okay.
So, that bit in the third one? Where Neltharion used the power of the Old Gods to defeat Razageth...
*deep breath*
THAT is how you connect old lore to new. Razageth is Zovaal done RIGHT.
It was implied in chapter one that Neltharion had been hearing the voices of the Old Gods for some time, but this... right here... is implied to be the first time he actually heeded them, he listened.
"So this is what you hid from us brother, the moment you fell from grace." - Norzdomu
Yeah, he wasn't Deathwing after that... but this was when his descent into madness began. He listened, he used their power, he saved Azeroth... for the moment, but the door was open. He'd let them in.
This shows how powerful Raszageth was. Neltharion was the Earthwarder, one of the most powerful beings on Azeroth, and he had to rely on the Old Gods just to seal her away. Not KILL her, just DEFEAT her.
Tumblr media
This has me freakin' HYPE right now.
Also, I have a feeling that this may be part of why Neltharion sealed away the Dracthyr.
They saw him do this. They witnessed the Aspect of Earth use the power of the Void.
They may not have known what he'd done, it was possible the Dracthyr might not have recognized it or may not have even known what the Old Gods were (Neltharion may not have told them,) but they could have told other dragons what they'd witnessed. They may even have done so out of concern for their creator, trying to seek help.
Neltharion couldn't risk it, and without that artifact he was using to control them he couldn't be sure they wouldn't.
I think one of the reasons they were sealed away was because he wanted to make sure that the method he'd used to defeat Razageth remained hidden. He didn't want the other flights to know what he'd done.
(Update after reading War of the Scaleborn: FUCKIN' CALLED IT! :D)
I think at this point he was still Neltharion. He was probably telling himself "Okay, this was a one time deal. I used their power, but what else could I have done? Razageth and her rebels would have done untold damage if I hadn't! I had no choice! Never again! I don't care what they promise me, this will NOT happen again!"
... until it did.
And again.
And once more.
And just another time.
Each time a little easier for the Old Gods to convince him.
Each time a little easier for Yogg-sauron to worm his way into his nightmares.
Each time a little easier for N'zoth to whisper dark thoughts into his mind.
Each time a little easier for C'thun to tempt him to try it... just once more... they could risk so much less if he'd just do it...
... until finally...
Tumblr media
... he stopped considering other options. Until after ten thousand years of compromises and listening and the occasional use here and there... Neltharion had become Deathwing without even realizing it himself, and it was too late.
As I said, THIS IS HOW YOU CONNECT OLD LORE TO NEW! Good gods it feels good to see Blizz actually do this right after Shadowlands.

Oh man who are your WoW/blizz faves?
Wrathion—I love how he interacts with the other characters, he is so smart and witty. Also, his dragon form model? Amazing. I liked his encounter in Ny'alotha too.
Majordomo Selistra—I love them, one of my favourite characters in Dragonflight honestly.
Renethal—my prince! I love Revendreth so much, best SL zone and you can fight me on this. My main was Venthyr even though it was the weakest covenant for my spec because I loved it so much. LOL
Lor'themar—he might be my oldest WoW crush. LOL He's one of those lore chararcters that feels dependable to me, I don't have to worry about him going mad with power and causing too much trouble.
Illidan—fan favourite for an obvious reason. I really warmed up to him in Legion since I didn't start playing until the end of BC. I'm still trying to get his glaives though, I'm missing one.
Anduin—I play Horde 95% of the time (except for my one Alliance alt I use for faction-specific mount/pet collecting). I really warmed up to him in BFA and Shadowlands. His cinematics have been SO GOOD, props to his VA.
Khadgar—the Solomon of WoW, I love this guy. His jokes are so bad, they're ridiculous. A total dilf for sure.
Rokhan—one of my favourite characters in BFA. I love trolls.
Bwonsamdi—sketchy af but hilarious. Troll fav bias showing here too.
Problematic favs (aka mostly bad guys/anti-heros I'm down bad for):
I am secretly #TeamOldGods except for C'thun. I dig the lore and the aesthetic and the creepy language and tentacles they're just really neat.
Denathrius—oh, Daddy D and his horny sword. Love this asshole, love his zone, love his raid, love his boss fight, love his little sword pet that kills things when she follows me around. BIG FAV.
Guldan—I don't like many orc characters but the chokehold he has on me. He's so evil and menacing. And his voice???
Azshara—she's been such a recurring villain throughout the game, it really built up the hype for me by the time she had more screen time in BFA. Her Warbringers cinematic was amazing. What a queen. Her boss fight was so tedious but still kind of fun. Actually, I enjoyed the Eternal Palace raid overall.
Zul—it was so obvious he was gonna go bad, but I did not care. My troll bias is showing again.
Taran Zhu—don't ask.
Falric and Marwyn—I am so weak for their voices like hello? Absolute monsters, but I'd let that happen.
