Jacqueline turns her head, pressing a open mouth kiss to Natasha’s knee. Her eyes stay on Nat’s as she eases the toy into her. While this isn’t the first time that they’ve been here, Jack’ll never pick up the habit of assuming she’s got the angle or depth right. That kind of carelessness has never been her style.
Not when she can instead watch Nat’s intake of breath and hear the low sounds of pleasure Nat can make for her. That is far more enjoyable.  Far, far, far more enjoyable. “Tell me if it’s too much, возлюбленная.”

Favorite Character Type: the Steadfast
So. In watching the Untamed, suddenly I realized what one of my favorite character types is and why I like a lot of the media I like.  I am just...all about the Steadfast character type. Loyal and patient in the face of sometimes ridiculous quantities of adversity, the one who will always choose their chosen when the chips are down. They will follow them into the goddamned dark (metaphorically, b/c the whole point is that they get through the dark together).
Honestly??? The Steadfast character might not even be my favorite character in a particular series/show/book/etc (though they usually are), and the loyalty doesn’t have to be actively romantic (though it’s always underlaid by some flavor of love). They’re usually a secondary character or co-lead, and if they’re a main character, they’re possibly in service to their chosen in some respect. (Service kink? What is this you say? Ahem, I have no idea what you’re talking about.)
This relationship dynamic. Just. This dynamic.
Here are all the examples I can think of off the top of my head from least obscure to most (more or less).
Tumblr media
James “Bucky” Buchanan Barnes (Marvel Cinematic Universe) — Look at this motherfucker. Sniper-support, literally goes to hell for his faith in the guy who he loves. (Bro or Romo, he loves Steve, I will fight you.) Till the end of the line? Yeah, and beyond, even after he falls off the goddamned train.
Tumblr media
Merlin (BBC Merlin) — Merlin and Arthur, shipped together by the dragon in the basement since the very first episode. Destiny, two sides of the same coin, etc, and so on. But the point is. The point is that Merlin starts by drinking poison for Arthur and he never gets any less ride or die, despite the trauma and his fatalistic love-hate relationship with destiny.
Tumblr media
Utena Tenjou (Revolutionary Girl Utena) — Okay, full disclosure, I have never finished the series, and Utena only partially fits this trope since she is the hero of her own story. However, her goal in life was to ‘be the prince,’ the one who is deliberately Steadfast, ready to win/serve/love(?!) the Rose Bride. When I was sixteen, I watched as much of what I could scrape out of my local vhs rental place with my little heart in my little hands and went, “Oh. Oh this.” She’s half my favorite character type and half of something completely unique, but she deserves to be on this list because she’s right down there at the base of my love for this whole trope.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hardison & Eliot (Leverage) (both of them, my heart, my heart) — Look, these two are 2/3 of the OT3 of my heart. Hardison, because he will wait for goddamned ever for Parker. Just...everything about the peanuts and giving Parker space to be herself. Eliot because he basically marries them both at the end with ‘until my dying day.’ They all go through so much for each other, but these two especially are just...there in the background doing their thing and holding each other and Parker up and it’s magnificent.
Tumblr media
Lan WangJi, Hanguang-Jun (The Untamed) — This fellow right here made me realize exactly the character type I love the most. He does not start off as the Steadfast, but he comes to it after an arc, and makes a declaration that I’m crying about right now just thinking about. You and me against the world, baby, no regrets. The show goes for epic high romance, while the book goes for puzzle pieces fitting together, but both iterations give me this and I love it so much.
Tumblr media
Grace (Terminator: Dark Fate) — A newcomer to the scene and say what you will about the movie, I’m fond of it for a dozen reasons. But Grace. Grace right here. The movie layers over and redefines the original Terminator in all sorts of fascinating ways, and THEN gives us Grace, who is ready to fistfight god and the Terminator and everyone in between for a profound and encompassing (familial) love.
The rest are book characters and I’m going further and further back in time, so the gifs are only relevant and not of the characters themselves. T_T
Tumblr media
Joscelin Verreuil (Kushiel’s by Jacqueline Carey) — Joscelin sets aside his entire life for the sake of Phedre, to become her consort and her protector. He, in the words of the book, “will ... stand at the crossroads and choose, choose again and again...” to stay with Phedre even down into the most literal of hells. And just, he’s exactly this Steadfast trope. Exactly. He chooses, repeatedly and with full knowledge of what he’s following her into, and he still does it over and over.
Tumblr media
Daemon Saetan SaDiablo (The Black Jewels by Anne Bishop) — These are my favorite books, but please do not read them without looking up the content warnings. Daemon, tho. He’s the embodiment of this steadfast loyalty and dedicated service. (And the series is This Trope: the Worldbuilding, so you have an inkling of why I love it.) There’s zero question he would carve his heart out upon request, and basically does so at the end of the first trilogy, breaking everything he’s tried so hard to build with full knowledge that that’s exactly what he’s doing.
Tumblr media
Achmed (Symphony of the Ages by Elizabeth Hayden) — So. Achmed. Half of my first OTP before I knew what an OTP was. He’s not actually the romantic lead in the books, but he is the other side of the main character’s coin, the dark to her light. (And the first time I’d heard the coin phrasing, far before BBC Merlin.) He’s just...willing to give everything for her and it’s with this deep acceptance that yup, that’s how it is. Welp. He’ll back her up always, because the thing they have is legitimately described as something entirely different than her romantic love with the lead, and I have always loved that.
Tumblr media
I think the thing that draws me to this trope is it’s mix of hopeful and stubborn and fierce. The reason each of them can be even called Steadfast is because they’ve been tested, often again and again, and they refuse to break faith. Even if it would easier. Even if they have competing goals. Even if remaining is to their own detriment. And yet they’re still there, still with their actions screaming their love even if they say absolutely nothing. And the person they’re dedicated to, maybe they’re not the most constant or they make mistakes or they cause suffering to the Steadfast for whatever reason. Still. Still. The Steadfast is there and will always be there.
And they choose to be there.

15-Minute Yoga Sequence To Unwind Your Day
It’s been a long day and you deserve 15 minutes of complete “Me Time” to enable you to let go of anything that came up and is ‘sticking’ to your mind or body.
Grab 2 or 3 blocks or pillows, take a seat on your mat and try this 15-minute yoga sequence to unwind your day and prepare your body and mind for a relaxing evening.
To Prepare
Make a list of all the things that you need to empty off of your plate for the evening; anything that upset you, in any way, or is nagging at the edges of your to-do list and keeping you from relaxing.
Slide that list under your mat knowing it’s there for you to come back to — if and when you choose.
Seated Breathing
Come to a comfortable seat on your mat and close your eyes to breathe deeply for a few minutes. Try to focus only on your breath and on sitting up tall. If the thoughts from your day or your list start creeping back in, breath louder or rock slightly from side to side to bring yourself back into THIS moment.
When you’re ready, lift your arms up and over your head and gently stretch over to one side and then the other. Repeat this a few times, gently going deeper with each rep — perhaps even bringing the right hand to the mat as you arch toward the right and vice versa.
Butterfly
Bring your feet together loosely, and let your knees fall out to the sides on blocks or pillows. Allow your upper body to fold over your legs so that your head hangs heavy or rests on another prop.
Stay here for 10-30 breaths, letting every last thought drip out of your head into a puddle between your legs. Let them all go.
Uncurl back up to a seated position and take a baby twist to the left and right with your hands at heart center.
Janu Sirsasana
Next, stretch your right leg out on the mat drawing your left heel in to your right inner thigh so that you are in a seated Tree Pose. Turn to face your right knee, engage that thigh and flex that foot. Let your fingers tip-toe down toward your shin or foot and reach your chest plate toward your ankle to feel a hamstring stretch.
Try to keep your spine as lengthened as your body will allow (trying not to round the back body) to entice a deeper leg stretch. Repeat on the left side.
Cat-Cow
Make your way to a table top position on your hands and knees, and practice a few rounds of arching and rocking in all directions to open your spine, shoulders and hips.
Listen to each joint articulation as you move slowly through the different shapes without pausing. Try to align your breath with the movement in a natural pattern. Allow your body to move in the direction that sings to you without questioning it.
Dragon
With your hands on blocks, step your right foot to the top of your mat with the ankle slightly ahead of the knee. Lean your weight forward into your hips and hands so that you are in a low lunge with your back knee on the mat.
You should be able to see your front toes and keep your front heel flat on the floor to know that your knee is safe. Relax the weight of your head and rest here for 20 breaths. This is a fiery pose so don’t be alarmed if it feels challenging or brings up frustrations, heat or impatience in your mind or body. Try to breathe through it all.
Just stay there until you complete your 20 breaths and allow all of it to be left behind on your mat. If the emotion or sensation becomes too intense, simply straighten out your back and stretch up to the sky for a few breaths maintaining the lunge.
When complete, gently slide your weight back and stretch out in Downward Facing Dog before repeating on the second side.
Boat
From seated bring your hands to hold behind your thighs and with bent knees lift your shin bones up until they are parallel with your mat so that you are balancing on your sit bones. Hold here for 5 breaths or straighten out the legs.
Either way, make sure your belly is pulled in to support your low back, your feet are active to hold some of the weight of your legs, and your chest is pressing up to the sky to lengthen your spine.
Rest, and then repeat twice more.
Reclined Pigeon

Bring your upper body down to a reclined position and bend your knees, with both feet on the ground. Cross your right ankle over your left thigh and flex the foot deeply (keep it flexed throughout to protect your knee and ankle ligaments). Lift the left foot off the floor and as you draw your left thigh into your chest, simultaneously press your right thigh away from you to access that hip deeply.
Allow your head and shoulders to rest on your pillow or the ground and perhaps even rock side-to-side to juice up the pose and soften all the muscles in your back. Repeat on the second side.
Inversion
Credit: Kristin McGee
From Reclined Pigeon, press both feet onto the floor and lift your hips up to hold Bridge pose (pictured) squeezing both your shoulders and your thighs into the midline.
After 5 breaths you can chose to:
a) Slide a pillow under your sacrum (and bum) to support your back while your legs float straight up to the ceiling or bend into your chest.
b) Take Shoulderstand using your hands on your middle or upper back to help lift you into the inversion, or
c) Use your Forearm Headstand by rocking up to seated from Bridge and placing your forearms at the top of your mat with your fingers interlaced. Keep the weight in your forearms as you bring your knees into your chest and gradually extend your feet up to the ceiling with active toes and thighs.
Hold your chosen inversion for 5-10 breaths to reset your cardiovascular system, bring fresh blood to your brain and change your overall perspective about the day behind you, and the evening ahead of you.
Child’s Pose
Credit: Jacqueline Buchanan
Find Child’s Pose and turn your attention inward for an entire minute (15 breaths) or more.
At this point, begin to rock your forehead on the mat to release your neck, simultaneously igniting the pressure point between your eyebrows that opens the mind, releases sinus pressure and calms the body.
Rock your hips side to side to gently massage them and stretch the lumbar region of your spine. Walk your hands to the right for 3 breaths and then to the left.
When you’re ready, uncurl gently to a seated position.
Seal Your Practice

Extend your arms up and over your head bringing the palms together and pressing your thumb to meet your two middle fingers in Apana, our mudra for invoking a better future.
Exhale to slide that mudra to your knees and rest there until you are ready to venture off into your evening.

Jackie sighs heavily. Sometimes she wishes they were five again and still calling one another Bucky and Bucky-boo. Five is a simple age, easy in someways.
Instead they are adults. Instead Jacqueline is breaking ranks and taking wild (successful) shots that leave her far too open. Being called on it makes her insides turn to ice. Is there any fire left in her.
"I'm right here, Jimmy, breathe. It will take a fuckload more for someone to take me out than what happened today."

“Oh.” Jacqueline lets out a surprised sound before her instincts shut the reaction down. There’s just a moment of surprise on her face before her expression smooths into something neutral.
“You look remarkably like I do.”

Licking her lips, Bucky eyes the redhead. A crooked smile graces her lips, momentary, before it falls. “Where would be the fun in admitting defeat, Prima?”
She’s too stubborn to just call the quits. There’s an opportunity here they can’t pass up. At least, that’s how Jacqueline feels. If Natasha isn’t for it, she’ll concede. She knows better than to try and go against the Widow’s judgement.

“Stop scowling,” Jacqueline huffs. “I’m not that terrible to be around.”  She needs coffee, a lot of it. Her head shifts toward the diner counter. Yes. She’s getting coffee and cake and he can just look all grumpy.

9 Yoga Poses to Help You Sleep Better
Yoga doesn’t always have to be a vigorous, get-your-blood-pumping workout, although many of us love the feeling those classes give us.   In fact, some of the most beneficial aspects of a yoga practice are the very subtle, minute changes that poses bring into your body, and you can reach these benefits during a short, gentle yoga sequence done at home!   Taking a few minutes at the end of the day to come back into your body and make yourself feel comfortable for bedtime is essential to unwinding at the end of a busy day. This flow of poses is designed to let you fall straight into a deep sleep after the final pose, so you can do these poses in bed for an even more restful experience.   Get ready to feel more at home in your body with these yoga poses to help you sleep and relax into a great night’s sleep.
1. Hero pose (Virasana)
Starting in a comfortable seated pose with your glutes resting on your heels with the tops of your feet on the floor, hero pose brings gentle stretching action to your knees and ankles.
This pose allows lubricating fluid to flood these areas, which protects them against injury, gets rid of any cracking sounds or minor discomfort you may be feeling here, and helps them feel more loose, warm, and comfortable—without any motion required.
Take this opportunity to lengthen the spine upward, and open the chest as you find a calming breath pattern. Use your deep, even breaths to slow down your heart rate and clear your mind.
2. Cat and Cow Pose (Marjaryasana and Bitilasana)
Credit: Kristin McGee
From Hero pose, roll forward onto your hands and knees. For cat pose, exhale as you tilt the crown of the head and the tailbone down to the ground, arching your spine into a C-curve and pulling shoulder blades apart.
Inhale into Cow pose by bringing the crown of the head and the tailbone up toward the ceiling, hollowing out the lower back. Flow between these two poses as long as you’d like, moving with the pattern of your inhales and exhales and feeling like you’re putting space between every vertebrae and loosening up your spine.
When you’re done, come back to a neutral spine in tabletop.
3. Child’s Pose (Balasana)
Credit: Jacqueline Buchanan
From tabletop, sink your hips back to your heels and settle your chest between your thighs. Your big toes are touching one another and your knees are as far apart as they need to be to help you settle comfortably and be able to breathe deeply.
With your forehead resting on the ground or a blanket, walk your fingertips out on front of you, stretching through the arms. You can also roll your forehead from side to side on the ground to give yourself a mini face massage.
4. Figure Four Against the Wall (Modified Sucirandhrasana)
Credit: Susy Crosser/SecondFit
Transitioning over onto your back, position yourself so your tailbone is pointing at the base of a wall (or another flat, tall surface). Place your glutes about a foot away from the base of the wall.
Place the bottom of one foot on the wall and, while keeping your tailbone in contact with the ground, flex the opposite foot and gently place your ankle on top of the opposite thigh. Keep your top foot flexed throughout the pose, with the toes pulling back toward the shin, to protect the knee joint from injury.
For added intensity, place your tailbone closer to the wall and/or gently press the top knee open to the side with your fingertips. This deep hip stretch is a low-impact alternative to poses such as Pigeon and Lotus, but it still gives you the benefits of releasing any tension from the hips and lower back.
Hip stretches are essential to feeling comfortable and relaxed before sleep. When you’re ready, switch legs. See this article if you’d like more detailed instructions on getting into this pose.
5. Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani)
From your figure four stretch, unfold your legs straight up the wall. If you can, bring your tailbone closer to the base of the wall, perhaps even to the point where your glutes are touching the wall. This pose can be a great gentle hamstring stretch.
It also helps drain lymph and lactic acid from the legs, which helps prevent injury and decrease the symptoms of fatigue and soreness if you spend a lot of time on your feet. Let the looseness that you brought into your lower back with the figure four stretch help you feel more comfortable in this pose.
6. Supine Spinal Twist (Supta Jaṭhara Parivartānāsana)
Credit: Tips From Town
Transitioning to face away from the wall, bring both knees into your chest and rock back and forth. When you’re ready, bring your arms out into a ‘T’ with your hands in line with your shoulders and let your knees fall over to one side.
You can keep both knees bent, straighten the top leg, or choose to straighten both legs. If you’re not feeling as much of the twist as you’d like, it may be helpful to adjust your tailbone, bringing your glutes further over to the middle of your mat so that your back is in one straight line down the center of your mat area—this may intensify the stretch in the lower back.
If you’d like a neck stretch, take the eye gaze to the side opposite your knees. Take this pose on both sides.
7. Happy Baby (Ananda Balasana)
Bringing both knees back into your chest, grasp your two big toes with the index and middle finger. Then pull the heels up to the ceiling, keeping the tailbone down on the ground.
Your knees should be pulling into your underarm area, and you can rock back and forth to gently massage the spine. This is a great pose for relieving abdominal discomfort and is a perfect final spinal relaxation pose.
8. Reclining Goddess Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana)
From Happy Baby pose, release the feet down to the mat. Bring the soles of the feet to touch one another and let the knees fall open, pulling the heels as close toward the pelvis as is confortable.
This pose brings a gentle stretch into the pelvis, low abdomen, and inner thighs. Pull your shoulder blades underneath you, putting space between the tops of your shoulders and your earlobes, and then bring your left hand to rest on your heart and your right hand to rest on your belly.
Allow yourself to feel your breath as you bring it down into your chest to the very bottom of your lungs. Let your breath come deeply and evenly, relax your face, and close your eyes if it’s comfortable for you
9. Corpse Pose (Savasana)
From reclining goddess pose, simply release your feet down to the corners of your mat or your bed, letting the toes fall open to the sides.
Release your hands so that palms are facing up and the backs of the hands are resting on the mat/bed a few inches away from the hips. Simply let your eyes close and let your mind be still and free of thoughts, while letting your breath come naturally and letting your body feel heavy, relaxed, and tranquil.
Try these yoga poses in this sequence and let me know how it goes!
